hi i read a whump prompt so now all of you have to suffer
after a different verson of eot where the Master manages to bring Gallifrey back without using Earth, the Doctor doesn't get involved, and the Master doesn't die in the end, the Time Lords wind up with a blond bargaining chip
tags: extreme hurt/comfort, dissection, experimentation, Torchwood, Time Lords, those should be their own warnings, simm!master, he's going through it, unethical research, bargaining, poor Master, 10th Doctor, the Doctor's unbridled rage, descriptions of blood/guts, multiple parts!!!!
the Time Lords were back. Rassilon did it. he tortured a fucking child for long enough to bring back Gallifrey. and you know what happened to said child? the Master, ancient by human standards, a petulant child by Gallifreyan, became a tool to them. again. when Gallifrey rose again in ruins, technology all but destroyed and cities collapsed, they couldn't fix it all themselves (as much as they'd hate to admit it). it was luck that had them catch wind of Torchwood, the human institution that collected technology from all over the known universe, and their respect and hatred for the Doctor. they had an idea.
the Master grunted as he was thrown to the ground, arms bound behind his back, legs tied together, and a gag in his mouth. he was sort of used to it, really. no different from any other day since Gallifrey's return. but this wasn't Gallifrey anymore; that's all he knew. he blinked up from where he lay and slowly came to figure out where he was, at least a little. some human storage facility... but they had particle guns? that wasn't supposed to happen for some time now. growing up with Theta Sigma had taught him that much. humans developed slowly. he flinched just a bit as a high-heeled foot stamped down just in front of his face. he couldn't crane his neck enough to see the human's face, but he heard them say, "let's say we accept this offer. what's in it for you?" Rassilon's voice came next. oh, how the Master hated that voice. a reminder of all his life had meant to the universe. "we will give you a rare opportunity. a chance to study a Time Lord, in exchange for some portion of the technology you've amassed," Rassilon hummed, as if this wasn't a critical moment for Gallifrey's success. "we understand you... dislike the Doctor, as do we. by studying this Time Lord," he kicked the Master in the side, "you could be better prepared for when he visits unannounced."
a guinea pig. a frog on the desk of some human child in biology. that's all the Master was to become. he tried not to let his blood run cold when the human agreed to Rassilon's terms. next thing he knew, he was being dragged down a hallway and slammed down onto a cold metal table. his hands were momentarily unbound, too quickly for him to react, and tied over his head. his legs were strapped down to the table. a harsh spotlight blinded him from seeing what was happening around him. a moment of chilling pause followed. then came the glint of metal in the light, and a searing, sharp pain trailed from the Master's chest down to his abdomen.
his eyes went wide as he screamed, the scientists cutting him open like cheap packaging, children ripping into a gift for the treasure it held inside. his chest heaved as he gasped for air that did nothing to help. he was so scared to look down. he was so scared. he looked to the side, to one of the scientists, with tears streaking down his face. they froze, shocked to see the one being more dangerous than the Doctor crying. they called for an assistant. "cover its eyes," they barked, "i signed up for blood, not tears." the Master managed to catch a glimpse of himself before they covered his eyes. he wished he didn't. his own organs, coated in his blood, with the gloved hands of humans rummaging around inside.

there's no bandage (to lessen the damage)
Hehe @panthera-tigris-venenata you wanted all three right? You wanted this right? Are you prepared for what you asked for? I'm not sure you are but oh well.
Trigger Warning: Dehumanisation, Unethical medical practices, Human experimentation
All vauge, but you have been warned
CJ had always been reckless. Ever since she could walk she had been getting in trouble, running into situations she shouldn’t belong or climbing up masts. She was rambunctious and loud and free.
There was no one really free on the Isle like CJ was. A luxury granted to her by her siblings, who held so much fear on the Isle no one dared touch her unless they were a fool. She ran from place to place doing as she pleased. So it was no wonder that it was these habits that did her in.
CJ had been enjoying Auradon. There was so much for her to explore, to find, to steal, to simply wreck havoc upon. Running from place to place, kingdom to kingdom, was exhilarating. She finally had people willing to give chase. The thrill of the hunt had been the most addicting thing she had felt yet.
So when the guards got close, within eyesight, and she ran, her voice bubbled with laughter. Crazy psychotic laughter. The only kind she knew, well the only kind she let the public know she had a reputation to protect. It rang out for miles, hiding her in the scenery to most, yet one guard kept her eyes on her, tracking her through the trees and brush, waiting for the perfect moment, the perfect shot.
CJ had stopped for a breath when it happened, standing on a branch, a huge smile across her face. The arrow in her chest took all of that away. She fell, shock replacing her smile, blood quickly blossoming along her shirt. Upon hitting the ground, the audible crunch of bones had even the guard flinching.
She approached closer, careful due to CJ’s known trickery, calling in the fall and potential capture of a wanted fugitive. The young girl just lied there. She seemed so simple, so small with her quickly blood soaking shirt and glassy eyes.
Somewhere on an Isle miles away, two people scream. A piece of their heart gone. They don’t know how. They don’t know why. Just a sinking gut and a searing pain telling them everything they need to know.
“She’s dead. The fugitive is dead. Prepare for extraction.”
The guard looked mournfully, remembering the details of the profile she was given: Calista Jane Hook, Age 14. She had only been a child.
No. She couldn’t think like that. The fugitive was dangerous for a reason. The property damage and millions of stolen goods spoke for itself. No. The world was far better with it out of it. (It had to be right?)
The body is taken in. A full work up is done. Medical tests and examinations. A full autopsy. A full cause of death and all the contributing factors. Everything is done. No stone is left unturned. No one had ever gotten a chance to truly see what the Isle had done to people before, they didn’t want to miss a single detail. Not when something so fascinating, so rare was in front of them. A whole study at their disposal, no ethics board sitting in their way. Not when there was no eligible next of kin. Not when there wasn’t a single soul who cared about the dead fugitive.
In a castle miles away sat a girl searching. For a way to talk, to get her back, to make a deal. A life for a life. Anything. She didn’t mean what she said. She didn’t want to be alone, didn’t want to be in a world without her wildfire. She couldn’t do this without her.
Finally after much pushing from the Crown, the fugitive’s body was released, but not without plenty of samples taken to continue testing. When it finally reached the hands of one Freddie Facilier, she wept at the loss of her dear CJ, who was almost unrecognizable. She was lifeless, none of her abundance of energy to be seen. Massive chunks of her hair were missing, surgical lines across every limb of her body. Every part of her dissected.
She crafted letters, being careful of who saw her. It wouldn’t do to have her surprise ruined. She mourned and buried her wildfire. CJ deserved to rest, deserved to be left alone from Auradon’s pain and torture. She watched and waited for vengeance, it didn’t belong to her, not really. And the sea always helped the sea, a ship couldn’t sail without waves. They grew closer and she grew more content, they will avenge her. They will avenge CJ.
When the siblings finally reach Auradon, it will burn. Their fury will reach levels never seen before. Lives will be taken, buildings broken into and burned. Every inch of what had been done to their sister, every reminder, every document will be destroyed. They don’t deserve her or the knowledge that their “research” on her gave them.
But it will never be enough.
Because Calista Jane will remain dead. She will remain in the ground (Or in labs never found.) She will never speak again. She will never laugh again. She will never run again. She will never be again.
Only the memory of her will remain untainted. And even that is not enough.

CW: experimented on, cattle prod/electrocuted
Rowena didn't resist as she was strapped down to the table. Didn't brace herself for the sting of the needle, the hot feeling that spread across her body like the tide rising, the pain that would eventually come.
"Create a flame." Dr Mason was indifferent as always. When Rowena failed to do so electricity sparked across her side. Fire flickered along her fingers, and the doctor gave a sound of approval.
She tried to maintain the flames but it was harder than usual. Another burst of electricity had her gritting her teeth. A flame flickered and died.
The cattle prod almost punctured her thigh, electricity coursing through her in waves of needles. Rowena screamed. But no fire appeared.
Again and again her muscles spasmed until she couldn't breathe, mouth frozen in silent agony.
"Enough," Dr Mason said. "I want to see if the drug works, not kill her." She typed something, distracted by her research before realising everyone else in the room was waiting for instructions. "In ten minutes stimulate her again, provided her heartrate's gone down a bit."
Hours of pain later Rowena couldn't move. She'd given up counting down the minutes after the first hour and all she could do now was wait for the next round of pain to begin. Every ten minutes there was another round, halted only to let her recover before starting again.
Her body was covered in burns from the electricity, bleeding in a few places from where the prongs had broken skin. The doctor had said she didn't want her dead - but that didn't seem like mercy.
When the prongs of the cattle prod stabbed into her calf again Rowena didn't scream. She'd been drifting in and out of consciousness for a while, only staying lucid enough to avoid biting her tongue as she seized.
"Let's stop for now. Everyone take a break, we'll resume this in an hour." Rowena almost sobbed as people began leaving. A whole hour of peace. Two nurses stayed, checking her vitals to make sure Rowena wouldn't suddenly die.
Dr Mason was true to her word. Rowena couldn't see the time, but she'd bet good money that the next round of electricity was delivered almost to the second. Still no powers, but a short nap had helped restore some of energy, and a small spark was glowing once again deep in her mind.
It only took two more rounds before Rowena was able to conjure anything. It could barely be called a flame - just a tiny spark that died almost as soon as it appeared. The energy it took felt enormous.
Rowena could hear the doctor scribbling frantically. Apparently her small display of power hadn't been enough, and this time the cattle prod was on her chest.
The eruption of fire almost burnt the guard, who jumped back with a yelp. But that was too much for Rowena's already exhausted. Darkness took her, a dreamless sleep that rolled over her like a wave, and Rowena welcomed it with open arms.

I've looked at the Classroom side of Abomination Classroom, now let's take a look at the other side of the equation - the alterations the scientists made to these kids, as well as reasons why these specific alterations were chosen when applicable, and some other notes besides.
A small preface, the scientists did use antimatter in these experiments which acted as something of a binding element for the alterations, making sure things didn't go too wrong. Of course they'll have some side effects later on, but thankfully no explosions. (If anyone wants me to elaborate on the reasoning for any given changes, feel free to ask.)
Also, thanks to @drop-the-curtain-123 for being a sounding board for these ideas.
Nagisa: Snake. Tail instead of legs, venomous fangs. - It's Nagisa. I was going to make the scientists give him alterations from a protandrous animal because his mom is Not Well, but it messed with the dorms. So, snake.
Karma: Large Bentwing Bat. Ears and wings. (He can't fly, none of the kids with wings can.) - Karma, as well as a lot of the other hostages, were being treated more cautiously and so their alterations were based on other animals with 46 chromosomes for added stability.
Akari: Octopus, Tentacles and camouflage. - Akari was more a test of rapid alteration, and her alterations were based on Itona's alterations. These tests weren't nearly as safe as the ones done on the other hostages but Yanagisawa wanted Aguri to suffer. Because he's an asshole.
Sugino: Mountain goat. Hooves, horns and balance. - Many of the alterations were chosen for potential military application. Sugino had no particular reason to get these alterations but neither did anyone else.
Okuda: Tortoise. Shell. - Again, no particular reason why Okuda specifically got these alterations, it's just something the scientists would try on someone.
Maehara: Black Rat. Tail, ears. - Maehara and Isogai were some of the earliest test subjects that are still alive, and so they both have simple alterations based on animals with 46 Chromosomes.
Sugaya: Hyena. Mouth, tail, legs. - Meant to capture Hyenas' bonecrushing bite. Sugaya was chosen because him briefly being mistaken for a delinquent because of his henna tattoos could be seen as reminiscent of how hyenas are unfairly villainized.
Kanzaki: Reeve's Muntjac. Coat, horns. - another 46 Chromosome crew member. With Kanzaki the scientists just let the mutations take the lead to see what would happen.
Kataoka: some large freshwater fish. Tail instead of legs, gills. - One of the scientists had a mermaid obsession. Her alterations were meant to be used for aquatic operations. She was chosen for this dubious honor because of how swimming toes into her character arc.
Yada: Tiger. Claws, tail, mouth. - I decided to give both Kurahashi and Yada similar alterations, straightforward ones based on major predators.
Kurahashi: Wolf. Claws, tail, fangs, legs. - see above.
Hayami: Falcon. Eyes, legs, wings. - I had to give one of the snipers literal falcon sight, okay?
Chiba: Pitohui. Wings, poison. - For many reasons, trying to make poisonous alterations was a huge struggle. Chiba's the only survivor. Also instead of sniper duo, he and Hayami are now bird duo.
Okano: Cat. Eyes, Ears, Nose, Tongue, Claws, Tail. - Okano was used as the testing grounds for altered senses. Due to this she's prone to sensory overload.
Isogai: Merriam's Ground Squirrel. Ears & tail. - See Maehara's page.
Terasaka: Crocodile. Maw, tail. - chosen for possible semiaquatic operations.
Muramatsu: North American Wood Frog. Toe/finger pads, antifreeze, tongue. - Yeah, the North American Wood Frog has a natural antifreeze. Muramatsu's alterations were intended to be used for polar operations. It didn't work out.
Yoshida: Kangaroo. Legs, tail. - Kick.
Hazama: Spider. Spinnerets, some exoskeleton. - Other than Akari, Itona and Hazama were subjected to the riskiest experiments out of the 28 that are still alive, being given non-vertebrate alterations. This is because they were outright given to the scientists with no caveats
Takebayashi: Mountain Beaver. Teeth and whiskers. - another member of the 46 Chromosome crew. Also I only recently learned that mountain beavers apparently don't have that trademark beaver tail. Go figure.
Hara: Honey Badger. Hide. - Unfortunately, she doesn't gain the honey badger's trademark attitude of not giving a fuck.
Nakamura: Dolphin. Lung capacity, Tail. (She keeps her legs.) - A less extreme attempt at fully aquatic alterations. I chose Nakamura because she's silly but also smart.
Mimura: Chameleon. Skin, eyes, climbing pads. - Mimura is noted to be good at going unnoticed. So this was kinda easy.
Okajima: Skunk. Tail, scent glands. - He has control over the musk by the time they get to the dorms don't worry. That said I may have been a bit mean to him by giving him these alterations.
Kimura: Cheetah. Legs, tail. - He fast. Also, less extreme alterations than some because he is a hostage.
Fuwa: Fox. Claws, legs, tail, ears. - When Fuwa first watched Naruto, she liked to imagine how cool it would be to be part fox. She doesn't think it's cool anymore.
Ritsu: European Hare. Legs, Ears. - To reiterate, in this AU, Ritsu's the daughter of some Japanese-Norwegian interpol agents. Originally I was going to upload her consciousness to a computer but that didn't fit with the rest and it was too risky for a hostage, so I put her in the 46 Chromosome Crew.
Itona: Octopus. Tentacles, camouflage. - As mentioned with Hazama, Itona was given to the scientists and so went through much more extreme testing. There were others. There aren't anymore.

"Fazbear MediT cares deeply about all its patients and asks that all patients stay in their specified wards. Thank you for coming to Fazbear MediT we hope your stay with us is comfortable."
Just a lil AU where Fazbear industries branched out into medical care and prosthesis I just could not get the image of Moon out of my head surrounded in a pool of red and saying "I work in the children's ward." and no one batting an eye.
Lots of famous people would come to the hospital, but not many can afford the prosthetics that Fazbear Medi Tech has, but if you can it can be life-changing, they have robotic limbs, eyes, and even certain organs, and no one questions why this industry built on entertainment is suddenly making very functional body parts...but then come the lawsuits, the red tape...and you. a person with an illness that is slowly breaking your body down. and FazMediT just so happens to have a new operation, fully ready to try anything, knowing you could just die as this is an experimental operation that you are signing up for to basically become a human experiment ...but death is worse. you are scared and alone and someone is making sounds in the vents above your cold hospital bed...humming lullabies, speaking reassurances...You think it is your mind deteriorating along with your body...but you start talking to it...your lonely vent friend...on the day of your operation before you fully go out you see a flash of purple overtaken by red, such a deep red.
then you wake up.
A human was back, and they were scared...because that meant a body, that meant blood....that meant HIM. They wanted to get rid of it, make certain it would not become another husk for the scientists to use...another vessel for the glitch...but.
It was so sad, humming soft lonely songs, yet it wanted to live so bad, every breath was a struggle but it fed birds outside its window and greeted children from the adjoining ward. a bright soul about to be coated in darkness like ink, like THEM. they spoke, all of them. it was blunt, thought they were a hallucination from pain, witty, charming, self-deprecating...They were hooked.
They had to make sure you would be safe when you came online. no glitch would touch you...they broke some rules, maybe. fiddled with files, and changed designs...the rabbit motif was a bit too much for them.
you were too bright for that.
a burst of joy, a wish come true
a shooting star, they would wish on you with all their might
they would make sure only you would wake up.
Only you,
starlight.
Star bright.

Back with my minibang fic chapter 2! Don’t know how I forgot to mention my marvelous beta @wsoupofpain in the last post, but shout out to her!!
(Ch. 1) (chap 3) (chappy 4) (ch five) (six)
BREAKING: NASA Lands Earths First Manned Spacecraft on Mars!
A tragedy following the wake of Danny's disappearance and the strange set of circumstances revealed between five points of view. But how did he get caught in the first place? And where did he go?
Chapter two: Broken Spirits (Read it on AO3)
[TW: unethical science and experimentation, neglectful/bad parenting, asphyxiation]
If the timing is suspicious, the doctors Fenton don't think anything of it. Shortly before Danny's disappearance, agents from the Ghost Investigation Ward came to interview Jazz for an internship she applied for, hoping to further her research in ghost psychology before college in order to be taken more seriously. A mere six days after their son goes missing, the G.I.W. agents return to confirm her internship acceptance and approach her parents about a consulting position in their agency.
Apparently, the G.I.W. managed to get their hands on an exciting and unique new test subject, and though all information about the subject is confidential, they believe the Fentons will be able to provide invaluable assistance during the experimentation phase. Despite the strenuous predicament they find themselves in, it's an opportunity they simply cannot pass up, especially not after the government promises to allocate additional resources to finding their missing son.
Besides, being able to work so closely with their daughter is no small comfort after the disappearance of their other child. After the G.I.W. sets them up with a fully equipped ghost science lab, Jazz wanders in from time to time, a relief every time they see her face. She asks questions about their work which they're more than happy to answer in great detail. If it's odd that she's suddenly taking an interest when she never has before, her parents don't think so.
Although they are brought in as consultants specifically because of the new specimen, the Fentons are never allowed to be in the room while the G.I.W. scientists run tests on it, and the closest they ever come to seeing it are the peculiar samples that get delivered to their lab every few days. The ectoplasm samples collected from the specimen are uniquely pure and powerful, but even more intriguingly, the government scientists have somehow been able to collect blood samples from the specimen.
Obviously such a discovery rocks the Fentons to their cores and they waste no time analyzing the blood samples. In them, there are microscopic ectoplasm molecules, invisible to the naked eye, but nonetheless contaminating every cell. Their instruments show that the ectoplasm has corrupted the DNA until it is unrecognizable as fully human blood and no distinct genetic markers can be identified.
"So you can't tell who this person is?" Jazz asks, and her parents laugh a bit at the idea that their daughter might consider a ghost to be a person.
"It's not a 'who' anymore, sweetie," her mother says. "It would have been interesting to study a ghost's genetic markers, but in the end, it doesn't really matter who it was before it became a monster." If she doesn't seem satisfied with this answer, her parents are too distracted to notice.
The agents and science officers of the G.I.W. ask very different questions. "You're sure this is accurate?"
"Of course," Maddie answers. "I designed these instruments myself, and I have no reason not to trust the data they give me."
"What sort of data do these instruments provide?" asks Dr. H, and when Maddie explains, he asks. "Can you make a similar device for me to use in my own lab?"
She says yes, of course.
"Can you make me a device which can see through a ghost's core, for examination purposes?"
Jack is fascinated by the prospect, and readily agrees.
"What materials do you need?" Dr. H asks.
"Can you make me a scanner that can read the spectral equivalent of brain waves? What sort of data do you lack to design such a device?" Such a tricky request when ghosts don't have actual brains, but Maddie is enticed and enthralled by the challenge. She needs to run tests, experiment on her own terms. "Yes, we can provide you with undamaged test subjects. Work quickly."
"Can you create a vacuum capable of containing ghosts?" Not only can they, but they already have. Proudly, the Fentons show off their ghost weasel and all its amazing functions, capable of sucking up and containing vast numbers of ghosts, completely inescapable. "Not that kind of vacuum," Dr. H interrupts. "I was thinking more along the lines of a vacuum chamber. A closed capsule that mimics the lack of atmospheric conditions on, say, the moon."
"Ooh." Jack and Maddie both grow giddy at the implications.
"You're testing the new specimen's potential status as an extremophile! How absolutely marvelous!" Maddie remarks.
"We have observed at least one ghost going into space without a protective suit or space ship, the one who called himself Plasmius," Dr. H agrees. "It's a line of study that has intrigued us."
"But it stands to reason that this new subject might not be able to survive in the vacuum of space as we have observed other ghosts being able to do, depending on how different it is to standard specters." Dr. H nods, but Maddie has already turned away from him, searching for a pencil to start sketching up designs while her husband grabs their sketchpad of blueprints off a countertop. Whatever else the G.I.W. has to say about the Fentons, they certainly work fast. "We can absolutely make a vacuum chamber that can hold a ghost. We'll get started immediately."
Dr. M is a different kind of scientist than Dr. H, and asks very different questions. She's more focused on ghost theory than getting her hands dirty with ectoplasm samples. "I understand that ectoranium is something of a ghost repellent, and it nullifies most of their uncanny abilities."
"It also causes ghosts immense pain to touch the substance, and releases chemical fumes which weaken them and cause them intense discomfort," Maddie adds, only for the notoriously stern Dr. M to shut down her claims.
"It is the opinion of the Ghost Investigation Ward that paranormal entities such as ghosts are non-sentient and not capable of experiencing pain," she says. "Please reserve such foolish postulations as they will be summarily disregarded, and are thus a waste of time."
"Whatever you say," Maddie responds with a knowing smile, shaking her head. She is sure that the G.I.W.'s official stance on whether ghosts can feel pain is wrong, but they likely stand by it out of legal obligation, so she doesn't bother to dispute it.
"Now, after substantial research," Dr. M continues, "I've concluded that ectoranium either does not occur naturally on Earth, or if it does, no naturally occurring source has, of yet, been discovered, however it can be found on certain comets and asteroids. Would the presence of ectoranium deposits affect a ghost's ability to survive in space?"
"I do not believe so," Maddie answers. "My husband and I have observed that ghost Plasmius in exile inhabiting the surface of an asteroid with a confirmed presence of ectoranium. Our research shows that while ectoranium vastly decreases the efficacy of a ghost's more dangerous abilities, like flight and gravity resistance, intangibility, and telekinesis, it's more innate abilities, like functioning without oxygen or maintaining a consistent shape will remain.
"We've discovered certain other stimulants which can cause a ghost to lose the ability to maintain a consistent form, causing it to dissolve, or become amorphous, however we have not found any way to negate a ghosts ability to function without breathing. That seems to be an immutable fact of their existence. Finding a way to suffocate a ghost is one of my husband's pet projects, I'm sure he'd be willing to enlighten you, if you asked."
"That's quite alright, thank you," Dr. M refuses. "I have more questions for you at the current time."
"Ask away!"
"Do you believe it is possible for a human to somehow gain some of the abilities of a ghost?" Maddie lights up at the question.
"Not only is it possible, my husband and I have seen it happen before!" Running to the computer, she enters her password and searches for the appropriate files, certain that Dr. M will find value in them. "A while ago, in Amity Park, there was an outbreak of ghost flu at the local high school, spread by disease carrying ecto-mosquitoes. Now, ghost flu is utterly amazing as a condition because one of the unique symptoms of ghost flu is exhibiting ghost-like abilities."
"Elaborate," Dr. M requests, as if Maddie wouldn't expound unprompted, though she is already planning to before Dr. M asks.
"Victims of ghost flu were able to use at least one ghostly power, intangibility, gravity resistance, duplication, spectral body manipulation—it's unlike anything I've ever seen, even among ghost related afflictions like ecto-acne."
"Do you think it's possible to synthesize a compound that would elicit that kind of reaction without the illness?" Dr. M asks. "A serum of sorts, or perhaps some kind of device, which could give humans ghostly powers?"
"My husband and I have been working on a few theories about that, using controlled ectoplasm exposure in lab rats. Slowly introducing purified ectoplasm—free of the impurities which cause illnesses like ghost flu and ecto-acne—into their bloodstreams, and analyzing the results.
"I can give you the experimentation logs, but so far we've had limited success. Our working theory is that it has something to do with the rate of ectoplasm exposure. Introducing it slowly, the rats' bodies fight the ecto-infection too quickly for it to take effect. The next stage of our experiments is to increase the dosage. We've tried a few times, but found that too high of a dose kills the rats instantaneously. Although it does create ghost rats, it does not create living rats with ghost powers.
"We put the experiments on hold when we came to work in this facility, but now that I'm on the subject, I'm curious to see if we can further this experiment with the information gleaned from the new specimen's blood samples."
"I encourage you to further these experiments posthaste, and report your findings," Dr. M says stiffly. "The G.I.W. is most interested in such experiments. If you require anything to effectively conduct these experiments, do not hesitate to ask."
"Of course!" As with every other question and request, Maddie is more than happy to carry out Dr. M's suggestion, and when she brings it up to her husband later, he enthusiastically agrees. If Dr. M's intentions are worrying, the Fentons don't concern themselves with them.
"Excellent," Dr. M says, and starts to leave.
"Wait!" Maddie stops her. "I know it's not really your department, but do you know if the investigators have made any progress in finding our son?"
"That's not my department," Dr. M says. "If you wish, I can request that the appropriate staff member be directed your way to answer any questions you may have about the investigation."
"Yes please, that would be wonderful," Maddie agrees. "My husband and I will resume the experiments we were talking about right away!"
"Affirmative." With that, Dr. M leaves the lab and Maddie walks over to the workbench they've designated for anti-ghost weaponry to talk to her husband about the experiments to give living creatures ghostly abilities. Just as she suspected, her husband is thrilled at the prospect of returning to those particular experiments with the full support and financial backing of the government.
They waste no time in procuring rats to use as test subjects and working on a way to combine pure ectoplasm with the contaminated blood sample. With the both of them working full time on the compound they synthesize a test dose by the end of the day, and inject the first rat to see the results the next morning.
The following day they're excited to see that the rat's once-brown coat is pure white, and its eyes glow yellow, though there is no corpse in the cage. When the agent comes into the lab to report to the Fentons about the investigation regarding their son, Jack is testing the Rat's reaction to the ghost proof cage and Maddie has just taken the first blood sample and is diluting it in a test tube.
"Agent Q!" Jack's booming voice announces when the man walks through the door. "Any news about our boy?"
"Yes," Agent Q reports, stone-faced and emotionless as always. "It is with regret that I have come to inform you that your son's body was found dead on the shores of Lake Eerie." His monotone voice cuts through the air in the lab like a scalpel and the Fenton parents can only stare in shocked silence. "There was evidence of him being attacked by wild animals, before reaching the lake, but the coroner has determined the cause of death to be drowning. There is no evidence of foul play. It appears the incident was a... tragic accident. Your daughter has agreed to go to the morgue to confirm the identity of the body so as not to take you away from your work, but we are quite sure it is your son. He has the same birthmark."
The silence of the lab is broken by a distant scream in the direction of Lab '05-∆Φ, where the new specimen is undergoing experiments. It sounds like Phantom's ghostly wail, like the screams of a dying child. They can't help but wonder if their boy—if Danny screamed like that before he died. And if the story is unlikely, the parents are too distraught to question it.
A teardrop drips from Maddie's face into the test tube she's holding, and the solution bubbles over. With a gasp, she lets it go, and it plunges toward the ground.
When she drops it... it shatters.

Mer void finally escaped when he heard the talk about potential breeding or something similar not really because the concept itself was scary, moreso because it meant that he wasn’t useful anymore and they were going to kill him off soon and were deciding what the last thing he’d be used for would be. And in their eyes if he’s going to die already, might as well be getting new young mers out of it to profit from.

“ what did they do to you? ”   - From CJ to Piers ;)
Question prompts
Piers is quiet for a long moment. He's not entirely certain he wants to talk about it, he's not entirely certain that CJ is ready to hear about it... He lets out a long exhale, searching for the words.
"What didn't they do to me might be a more appropriate question," he said finally. "When I woke up after I got your father out in the escape pod, I didn't know where I was. Every single inch of my body hurt, I could barely see, could hardly even stay awake, couldn't think.... I don't know what all they did to me while I was out, besides amputating the arm and giving me a bunch of skin grafts... I guess they did something to fix the damage to my ribs; I'm still not sure what exactly... Your dad might know; he wouldn't let me read the file...."
He can already feel his mind trying to drag itself back there; to the too-sterile white walls, the freezing cold air constantly blowing on him, the persistent ache all over his body that never seemed to go away... He pushed the memories back, forcing his mind back to the present, to his son sitting next to him-- the one thing that had kept him going through everything else, had made him keep pushing his way through a literal hell on Earth.
"No one was allowed into the room with me unless I was sedated. When they needed to send someone in to change my bandages, there was a certain spot I had to stand in so they could reach through a little port thing and jab me... Once I was too loopy to even stand on my own, they'd send someone in in a full hazmat suit to do what they needed to do. Every inch of the room was monitored by cameras; I had no privacy whatsoever.... Not that it mattered much, really. I was usually pumped so full of different medications that I could barely even get out of bed. They ran every test you can think of and then some... Imaging, bloodwork, stress tests... Samples of every bodily fluid you can imagine.... I remember at some point they even hit me with a taser to see how my body would respond to an electrical charge..."
He shakes his head. "The worst part is, CJ, I think I've blocked out more of it than I actually remember at this point. Like my brain just couldn't take any more so it... Stopped remembering."

Background Events: Persona Experimentation
Unethical experimentation on Persona Users has been happening since the beginning. But how has it evolved until now?
Warning: Some speculation will be involved.
TW: Human Experimentation
The Beginning
We don't have an exact date for when experiments related to Personas and the Collective Unconscious began. Phil and Nyarly's bet had been going for some time by the time IF took place. However, if we had to place a true beginning to the experiments, we would have to go with Stephen and the Demon Summoning Program. Along with Kyouji Kuzunoha, he's the only SMT character who's also canon to Persona. Makes sense, considering his weird transcendent nature. The tale may vary between franchises, but the Persona version goes like this:
By unknown means, Stephen managed to create the Terminal System to travel through computer networks. Since he's in a wheelchair in IF, then this Stephen also managed to connect to the Expanse (located in the Collective Unconscious) with the Terminal System. Since he didn't have a way to communicate with the demon who crossed and no Persona to defend himself, Stephen was was attacked and subsequentaly crippled. All of this had to have happened before 1996 for the timeline to make sense (Side Note: This also tells a lot about Stephen, since the incident had the perfect conditions for an Awakening).
The incident led Stephen to create the Demon Summoning Program, probably for personal use, since there was no upcoming war to prepare to (that Stephen could have known of). For some unknown reason, Stephen chose to upload the only copies of the program in the computers of Karukozaka High School. Was he an alumni? Did Stephen realize teens had more probability of connecting with the Expanse? Were Karu High's computers just that good? Who knows. Only Hazama and Tamaki took the program serious enough to use it, even if it was against each other. But that's a story for another time.
Like St. Hermelin would in a few months, Karu High briefly made the news before the entire incident was forgotten. That is highly suspicious on itself. My assumption is that there truly were some experimentation going on before this, amd they made sure to silence the press and make sure the students didn't snitch. Since Tamaki managed to hide among the student population as another victim (probably with Stephen's help), they never questioned her on her abilities nor disappeared her.
But who are they? Well...
SEBEC
The first formal organization seeking to gain a foothold in the Collective Unconscious was the Japanese branch of SEBEC, leadered by Takahisa Kandori. Their story goes like this:
When Kandori took over as head branch of SEBEC, they began to undertake the creation of a device capable of transporting matter from one place to another. Kind of like a portal. This had the main objective of helping to lower freight costs of imports and exports. Maybe even erasing them entirely. Key contributors were Setsuko Sonomura (an engineering specialist) and Dr. Nicholai (a scientist). Kandori kept the project so under wraps that those involved basically lived in the installations. Together they created the Dimension Variable Accelerator System, or DEVA System. However, they also pulled a Backrooms and accidentally connected to the Collective Unconscious.
It is probably at this point that Kandori awoke to his Persona, which was hijacked by the real Nyarlathotep. And thus, Kandori became a puppet in The Great Bet while believing he was achieving world domination or something like that. "But, Kati," I can hear you saying, "all of that was about the Collective Unconscious. Aside from Kandori, there were no Persona Users working with SEBEC".
Oh? OH? So quickly you forget about him?
Tumblr media
Takeda. The man, the myth, the barely remembered NPC. All we know about him is that he is Kandori's right-hand man, the head of security at SEBEC and a Persona User. We don't even know what his Persona is, only that its couldn't handle the combined forces of the St. Hermelin students. His existence does imply something deeper: SEBEC is already employing Persona Users to their cause. They probably didn't know much about the phenomena (understandable, since they had just finished the DEVA System) and didn't have a definitive way of figuring out who could be a User and who couldn't. For all they knew this could be random. And so, a not-so-stellar security guard rose to become the second-hand man of the main antagonist. Just because he had the same power as him.
As we know, Kandori and SEBEC failed. But what was the fate of the staff that worked on the DEVA System? What about the little knowledge of the Collective Unconscious they had?
New World Order
Due to Nyarly's meddling, the NWO was founded in 1979 after they found Kiyotada Sumaru's head. They might have had supernatural advice from an ancient head and the backup of one of the most powerful beings in the Persona Universe, but no real Persona Users. Not one of those people had their shit together. The closest thing they had was Chizuru Ishigami, who was a sorcerer (most probable given true power by the Rumor Curse). When the time was right, we can assume Nyarly guided them to the remnants of Kandori's fuck up. The NWO revived Kandori and began their recruitment of the now-lost scientists and inventors. The NWO gave more freedom to their researchers than SEBEC did, which eventually led to the beginning of true human experimentation.
We don't see the worst of it unless you play Tatsuya's Scenario, where the hints they leave us are enough to call for a second Doctors' Trial.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yikes. And this was only one known experiment.
Like SEBEC before them, the NWO also fell. But they weren't the only ones running supernatural and unethical experiments in 1999.
Kirijo Group
With the creation of the Dark Hour, demons shadows weren't only a danger of the Collective Unconscious anymore, at least, as far as the Kirijo Group knew. Now those in the know had to watch themselves every night to avoid being attacked by them. They couldn't always rely on the perfected version of the Anti-Shadow Suppression Weapons. That must have been the moment when they began to hear rumors of supernatural events in Sumaru City, which led them to the crumbling NWO.
As it turns out, the entire Death Incident a couple of months ago left a huge vacancy for their supernatural research division. And these guys seem like they have fresh ideas that might just solve their self-created problem! A secret scramble must have taken place where the Nanjo and Kirijo Groups tried to covet all the info and personnel that had anything to do with the NWO. Those who weren't important enough to know the truth behind Kiyotada Sumaru's head and their self-proclaimed high-class greatness could have become the precursors of the Conspiracy.
And so, the Kirijo Group now had better scientists, inventors and researchers than before, and more willing to dab on unethical territory. With the need for defense, the former NWO scientists must have suggested they try to create their own Persona Users, like the ones who kept barging into their labs back in Sumaru. Thing is, no one there knew how a Persona User came to be. They did seem to have the power to control a shadow to do their bidding... maybe all they had to do was link (whatever that meant) a human with a shadow. The survivors of these experiments would become bodyguards for the Kirijo Group's excursions to Tartarus. No one would last long, though.
Skip a couple of years and the unexpected happened:
Tumblr media
A natural Persona Awakening.
Note was taken of the factors that had to do with the event: the User was a child and she had been in a highly stressful situation. This is how the Kirijo Group rounded up the 100 children they would experiment on to create Artificial Persona Users. All of them dying except for three: Takaya Sakaki, Jin Shirato and Chidori Yoshino (and Sho Minazuki). This violation to the Nuremberg Code probably fell to the side when Mitsuru found and recruited two natural Persona Users on her own. Nothing like flushing dozens of children's lives down the toilet.
We must remember that the Kirijo Group didn't know everything about Personas, and so believed that the stressful situation with a dash of fear of death was necessary every time the User wanted fo summon their Persona. And so Evokers were created. Better not think of the trial and error that led to those inventions. Nor the one that helped create Persona Suppressants.
Who cares if three failed lab rats ran away? Now the Kirijo Group had true Persona Users with them.
A lot happened after that, but that is a story for another day. What about the hypothetical precursors to the Conspiracy formed from the high-profile members of the NWO? The ones that fell through the cracks during the power vacuum?
The Antisocial Force
For once, this wasn't Nyarly's fault. The basic rich bitches would have remained basic rich bitches if it wasn't for Yaldabaoth. The creation of the Shadow Operatives and the less restrictive hold on Kirijo Group employees probably made all that Persona and Collective Unconscious experimentation more of an open secret in the science community. And like hypnosis, this is one secret that most didn't believe until they witnessed it themselves. Not all were skepticals, and those interested were recruited by Masayoshi Shido for the creation of the Antisocial Force.
They would be the new oppressive entity in this area, suppressing information and giving stitches to snitches. This wouldn't stop "Cognitice Psience" from becoming an increasingly popular field. Who knows what kind of experiments happened in and out of the Antisocial Force. They couldn't have been the only ones.
If there is one thing the new Kirijo Group managed to contain, was the knowledge of the creation of Persona Users. The Antisocial Force didn't even have the research from the original NWO scientists that would help them create Artificial Users. Yaldy had to put an already-Awakened Goro Akechi in Shido's path for them to have a User. And even with an actual User, they couldn't replicate the circumstances that could have helped create more. I doubt Akechi was very helpful with that, though. Can't have any potential substitutes for his job.
Nah, the Antisocial Force's forte would never be Persona Users, but rather humanity's cognition.
So, what was the order of events?
Stephen created the Terminal System and began working on the Demon Summoning Program.
SEBEC began working on the DEVA System.
Stephen completed the Demon Summoning Program.
SEBEC finished the DEVA System and, after Kandori's Awakening, began to recruit Persona Users (at least one other than Kandori).
After SEBEC's fall, the New World Order recruited the staff that worked in the DEVA System.
The NWO began to experiment with demons and humans.
The Kirijo Group hired all the scientists and inventors from the NWO.
The Kirijo Group began to create Artificial Persona Users.
After Mitsuru's Awakening, the Kirijo Group focused on children experimentation.
The Antisocial Force began to recruit experts in cognitive psience for personal experiments.

Are requests open?
If so can I request a Romantic Yandere!Cale Henituse × Reader who's Cursed and experimented on?
Maybe they has some Ancient Powers locked inside of them that made them valuable or was a potential host of becoming a powerful puppet soldier. In any ways, Reader is a cold wall but when you break it down they become more clingy, dependant, and soft.
Let's say Cale found them in complete accident, while investigating some "stuff". He also discovers the files containing about Reader's abilities and while he decides to first send them off somewhere, Cale thinks that it would be mote beneficial if he recruits Reader instead. Reader joins the Squad and in a few years boom! A redhead yandere lover with his kids and subordinates but does Reader care about the group are Yanderes?
Nope! Unlike the scientists who hurt them, the Squad and Cale love Reader + they're already gone insane so a little killing won't hurt!
TREAT YOU BETTER
❲ yandere! cale henituse x cursed! reader x platonic yandere! tcf ❳
summary : despite of being a little crazy. you prefer staying with them over those annoying ‘doctors’ since they are treating you better.
tw : yandere behavior, unethical human experimentation, violence, mention suicidal thoughts, killing, obsessive behavior, manipulative behavior.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
the ‘treasured child of nature’ is the title that you hate the most. why do you ask? because that title is the main reason why you were suffering. why do those people who claim themselves as ‘scientist’ did some ‘test’ on you? the main reason why those damn magicians tried to cast hypnotism magic on you. you hate that title as much as you hate yourself.
you once heard from that scientist about the ancient power locked inside your body. a very powerful ancient power that can destroy a whole kingdom in a blink of an eye. you were the top candidate to become a powerful puppet soldier that will save your kingdom from wars.
but you hate it. you don't want to kill. you don't want to hurt anyone. but you were too tired. you were too tired to feel the same feeling that you felt every day. the feeling of some drugs being injected into your body. you were too tired of seeing the same hallucinations that you see every day. you want to end it. you want to end your life so much. and if you can't end your life peacefully just like you want to. you will just bring this facility, the scientists, the magicians and the whole kingdom with you to hell.
and when you are close to snapping. that's when those guys appeared in your life. and you can't forget that day, the day when that facility that you loathe, got destroyed by a certain group. a group of powerful people who were led by a certain man with crimson red hair colour.
the day the facility where you suffered ever since you were born, disappeared. that was the day you met cale henituse and his group. and boy, the first person who approached you after they finished 'disposing' of those scientists and magicians that was working for that facility, was obviously, the cute little black dragon named raon.
and the first one who became a platonic yandere for you is raon. this little dragon sees his old self to you. so pitiful, so weak. and he vows to himself that he will ask his human to let you stay with them.
and at first, of course, our lovable yet kinda dense red-head commander wants to send you off. he thought that it will be better and beneficial for both of you if he sends you off. but he erased that idea from his mind after hearing raon's request. and it will be more beneficial for him to recruit you instead since you will be a great ally to him. of course he doesn't even know that he will slowly but surely become yandere for you after you agreed to stay with them.
first, let's list down the platonic yanderes for you. first of all, there were the kids ( on, hong, raon ) who was willing to kill the people who wants to use them just to get close to their human. and please remember, even if you were reaalllyyy cold to them at first, they really love your presence! even though you don't pay any attention to them! just stay with them in the super rock villa! ahh, of course, they will be really happy if you and their human will end up with each other!
the next one is the dragons ( sheritt, eruhaben, mila, rasheel, dodori and of course, the dragon half-blood ). let's start with sheritt first. we all know that sheritt already lost one of her sons. and seeing raon clinging to you just like how he clung to cale. sheritt was surprised. and of course, she treats you like you were her daughter despite of you ignoring their presence. the next one is eruhaben, mila and rasheel. we all know how prideful the dragons are. but for some reasons. These three dragons were really obsessed with you. eruhaben and rasheel, being a tsundere they are. they won't even admit that they love you (in a platonic way of course). and the thought of those mere humans using you to get close to cale makes their blood boil. well, getting rid of them is a good choice. mila doesn't really like you that much before. but after seeing you having a nightmare one night, it boosted her yandere tendencies. ahh, if she will be given a chance to kill those humans who made you like this she will make sure to shatter their bodies in pieces where even their own family won't be able to recognize them.
and dodori and the dragon half-blood. we all know that dodori is a big fan of cale. and after hearing from raon about you, he becomes curious. since in his eyes, you look quite intimidating and scary (since raon described you as a kind human). he thought that you were only fooling raon. but he slowly, after following you and watching you for a few days. he started seeing you as his big sister. dodori doesn't care if you were only fooling them but he and his hoobae will protect you forever! while our dragon half-blood was the only sane platonic yandere here. he wasn't that obsessed with you, unlike the others. but he was willing to kill someone for you. just say the word.
let's move on with alberu, choi han, rosalyn, lock, beacrox, ron, mary, cage, tasha, witira, paseton, and archie. oh! oh! this combination of yanderes was quite good! first of all, they care about you as much as they care about cale. there is alberu who loves spoiling you with material things. since according to him, he just wants to take care of his future sister-in-law. and there is rosalyn, mary and sometimes tasha, cage, and witira who loves dressing you up. they don't care about the scars that you've got from the scientists and mages before. they just love dressing you up like a doll ( note, they were the ones who sets you and cales date every time since according to them, cale is quite dense when it comes to these kinds of things ). and there is archie and paseton who visits you often in the super rock villa. and these two doesn't even realize that they are yanderes for you. since according to archie, they aren't used to these types of things.
and there is choi han and lock who was assigned ( by cale of course ) to be your bodyguard. even though you treat them as if they don't exist, they don't care. oh, and they find it funny and cute whenever they see you staring at nothing. it kinda reminds them of cale. alright, let's move on with the molan father-son duo who loves to take care of you! well, the main reason why beacrox became attached to you was that the only time they saw your face brighten up was the time when you ate the food that beacrox cooked. after that day, beacrox started treating you as his little sister. and seeing beacrox, cale and everyone around him acting weird. ron also become curious about you. what's so special about you? that's the question that ron had on his mind. but the more time he spends with you, the more he becomes attached to you. you were so fragile and just like the young master, you act like an obedient puppy sometimes. and he knows the things you've gone through that made you like a stone and cold as ice. kukuku, ron is curious about what will gonna happen once they were able to make you open your heart to them.
the henituse family especially lily and basen really adores you. how can't they adore you? you were really cute! and seeing you and their cale sitting next to each other without saying anything is really adorable! for their eyes, the two of you were made for each other. and let me tell you a secret, lady violan is the one who discovered your love of food. since she was the first one who saw you smile after eating the chocolate chip cookie that she made. and after hearing that from his wife, deruth gave you a huge box full of chocolate cookies as a present.
okay, the last and the most obsessed with you. the supreme commander of the allied nation, cale henituse. We know that cale isn't really used with ‘love’. and despite of being a smart person. cale took a while to realize that there was something odd with his adoration for you. the first time he realized it was when you sneaked out to go on the market. and that time, cale was nervous and worried about you. it's funny to think that he was worried that you left them when he planned to send you off before.
cale couldn't help it, you were addicting. your presence itself was really addicting. and this was the first time that cale wants to be greedy. he wants you to stay by his side. he doesn't know what will he gonna do if he loses you like how he lost lee so hyuk and choi jung soo. and the more he sees you, the more his yandere tendencies worsen.
and after a year of staying with them. you noticed one thing. the super rock villa was safer than the facility where you have grown up. unlike that place, here, you have many people who care for you (even though they were a bit crazy, you don't really care). and unlike that place, you can eat delicious food and wear comfy clothes here. this might take a while, but you slowly opened yourself to them.
the first time you approached them first is when you offered to play with the kids. and to be honest, they were surprised and really happy because of your offer. and that time was the first time when they heard you laugh so softly. and after that, raon excitedly said it to his mother who happened to be with eruhaben, mila, rasheel, dodori and the dragon half-blood.
and boy! boy! sheritt might be happy to see her son happy. there was also a side of her who also wants to hear you laugh. and so are the other dragons and the dragon half-blood. that's why sheritt decided to invite you to a tea party with her and the other dragons. and on that said party, after seeing your long yet kinda messy hair. eruhaben decided to braid it for you and of course, you obeyed him and sat quietly in your chair while nibbling your cookie. and how will they say this? rasheel, dodori and the dragon half-blood weren't really used to seeing you acting like a child. while sheritt and mila happily decorated your hair with some flowers. and after they finished decorating your hair, they gave you a mirror to show it to you. and boy! rasheel almost choke his tea, and the dragon half-blood and dodori's eyes brightened up after hearing you giggling softly as you thank them.
and after seeing that clingy and childish side of yours. only made everyone want to protect you more. hah, even though they love that side of yours. they are also worried that people might take advantage of you. tsk, tsk, tsk, it looks like they need to protect you even more.
and man, even cale loves that clingy side of yours. because you mostly spend your time with him. sitting next to him and reading a book. and there were some times that you fell asleep on cale's shoulder. of course, cale didn't fail to record it in his mind. he doesn't want to forget those times when you were with him.
and oh, remember that ducal family from the other kingdom who kidnapped you before? let's just say that the ducal family and that kingdom disappeared overnight. what was the reason? who knows?
fun fact! there were also three platonic yanderes up in the heaven who was involved with the disappearance of that said kingdom. but let's keep it a secret for now, okay?

100 Days of Deathduo
Day 2- Alien Au: The meeting
Tw: major dehumanization, heavily implied unethical experimentation, implied ptsd, and non graphic injury descriptions. Please take care of yourself <3
When the ship shakes, Clover doesn’t pay attention to it. She realizes that something is happening of course, but it exists in a tiny part of her brain, pushed back behind thoughts of pain and hunger and thirst. She can’t focus on anything but continuing to breathe, even though her ribs ache with every inhale and her lungs with every exhale. It would be so much easier if she could sleep, try to ignore the pain, but her brain is too distracted with the pain to let her fall unconscious.
To be fair, even before, her brain had a difficult relationship with sleep.
And so Clover breathes. In. And out. Ignore what is happening outside. Ignore the sounds of metal, distant voices of people, aliens, do aliens count as people if they aren’t humans? They are sentient, if the… architecture proves anything. Architecture, the spaceship she is on, futuristic and rudimentary, matching no style that Clover had seen on Earth, on home.
The reminder of home hurts more than the torn flesh from where the aliens had stolen  parts of her. Clover used to occasionally donate blood, back… before. She doubts she could see a needle without throwing up, now.
She winces when the doors to the room open. The containment cell room, filled with a few different creatures. Clover doesn’t recognize any of them. She doesn’t have to, to sympathize with them. Tiny creatures in even tinier cages, a moose like animal with its antler horns poking out of the bars. She tries to shift her leg in her own cell area and only succeeds in pulling on her wounds, her mouth opening in a silent cry. Its dangerous to be too loud here, especially with someone in the room now.
Oh right. Someone is in the room. Clover breathes, and avoids eye contact with the creature. She had learned the hard way that some species considered it a form of aggression. Even as she tries to ignore it, she can hear the sounds of the other cages being opened. She allows herself to relax a little bit. They rarely take more than one creature at a time.
She flinches when they deviate from their normal routine. The door to her cage swings open, and she freezes, trying to stay still, make herself small. She hears the creature make a noise. They sound different. Softer, more chittery. They don’t grab Clover roughly like they normally do. Clover would probably be confused if she wasn’t terrified out of her mind.
She doesn’t bite when a hand, paw, some kind of appendage reaches out to her. She had, once upon a time. But now she is just tired. She doesn’t even show her flinch when it sticks a mechanism on her. This part, at least, is not strange. Its some kind of forcefield, bluetooth kind of thing, designed to lead her to different places without her being able to fight back. She doesn’t know how it works. She is too tired to care, at this point. She doesn’t even feel the shame that comes with being trapped and paraded around like an animal. She knows that is how the aliens see her anyways.
Clover feels the familiar tug of the device, the one that means she has to move if she doesn’t want to get dragged along. She stumbles out of her cage, her legs barely strong enough to hold her weight. She doesn’t know if she is having trouble walking because of the muscle atrophy, her injuries, or malnutrition.
The alien is different. They are fuzzier, and if Clover had to describe them, she would compare them to an Earth rat, if the rat were the same size as her with light blue fur. If she tried hard enough, Clover could probably delude herself into believing that the chittering sound is friendly. She doesn’t do that. It would make it worse.
Clover tries to walk. She tries her absolute hardest. Normally, the aliens at least let her have a few days to rest, or they sedate her instead of making her walk, but this is obviously different. Maybe she should care about the changes a little bit more. Clover can’t bring herself to. She can’t even bring herself to hold out her hands and catch herself when she goes stumbling to the floor.
The rat person squeaks. Full on squeaks. They kneel down to where Clover is, and she instinctively tries to scoot away even though she really shouldn’t do that. She really, really shouldn’t do that, but now she has, and she waits for the backlash and freezes when the rat reaches through the forcefield for her.
The rat doesn’t do anything to her. Or at least, nothing harmful, they just gently, so gently, help Clover stand up. And then they put a paw around Clover, chittering in the way they have been, helping support Clover’s weight. Perhaps a different person would have taken this opportunity to fight back, leave, escape. Clover leans on the rat alien instead and vows to ignore the strangeness.
Clover isn’t surprised when she is led to another ship and put into another cell. She is surprised when she notices its big enough to stand up and walk around and lay down without touching the sides of it.
Something has changed. Clover doesn’t know if it’s a good or a bad thing yet. And try as she might, she cannot help but feel a tiny spark of hope, no matter how much she tries to convince herself not to care.
