Amending
Miniseries! The beginning, middle and not end of amending.
Empowering context for self-reflection: freckles not cancer
What the list is: I did the wrong thing and was harm caused.
What the list isn’t: people whose feelings I hurt or people I didn’t do the right thing by but didn’t actually harm, only people I’m looking to continue a relationship with or willing or able to go and see, only people…

The 12 Steps as they are listed in the "Big Book" of Alcoholics Anonymous
1. We admitted we were powerless over alcohol — that our lives had become unmanageable.
2. Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.
3. Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him.
4. Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.
5. Admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.
6. Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.
7. Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings.
8. Made a list of all persons we had harmed, and became willing to make amends to them all.
9. Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.
10. Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it.
11. Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.
12. Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these Steps, we tried to carry this message to alcoholics, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.

“I was in a race to see if I would die from the outside in or the inside out.” ― Laurie Halse Anderson, Shout
My husband would act very weird and secretive. One day I looked through his things and I saw something that looked like some sort of device that you could smoke out of. I investigated and it looked like it could possibly be a crack pipe. Could I really be married to an alcoholic and a crack attic? I grew up in a wealthy neighborhood, so this seemed preposterous to me. I was so young and naive. Now I know these things happen no matter where you live, what your income is, and it can happen to absolutely anyone.

Help! Such a small little word with a big massive punch! #howiseeit Asking for help was so humiliating for me. With my delusion of being better than everyone and my belief of not being good enough, I hated showing any kind of weakness (which today I know it to be humility). I'd rather fail than ask for help. And when I asked for help, it really felt like a punch in my face. I am a failure punch. Thank Goodness for recovery! Thank Goodness for the people in recovery. I asked for help with all my heart after a year sober, with the obsession to use streaming in my head! What a relief it was. Like the song, doors opened; one of which was recovery! Today my favourite sayings are: I don't know; can you show me? I don't understand; show me what do to; help me please. No shame, no cringing, no humiliation. Simply me being a student of life. 🛐🤗☯️🥰☮ #sobriety #soberlife #recoveryispossible #cleanandsober #recoverjourney #mentalhealth #cocaineanonymous #alcoholicanonymous #soberwarriors #soberliving #drugaddiction #addictionstigma #alcoholismrecovery #alcoholism #recoverywarriors #12steps #twelvesteps #12steprecoveryprocess #onedayatatime #ODAAT #soberissexy #mindalteringsubstances #addictionrecovery #recoveryrocks #cleanandsober #AABigBook #wecanrecover #thereisasolution https://www.instagram.com/p/CIpphTKgRkE/?igshid=1fdalr4dsqd3x

Me and the Twelve Steps
I have been in and out of recovery for many years while battling my addiction. Twelve-step meetings, outpatient, and inpatient rehab have been a part of my many attempts in the past. I've had some temporary successes while in and out of the rooms of Narcotics Anonymous but nothing that has ever stuck and now I really need to figure why or maybe I’ll die trying.
Why Now?
That's such an easy question to answer, I'm at rock bottom with nowhere else to fall or really nowhere else that I want to fall. I'm just sick and tired of being sick and tired as they say and I want to figure this thing out. But you know, I still can't trust myself or my addiction because one slip up going forward and I'll be right back at day one and believe me things could get a lot worse.
What's The Block?
The biggest thing that keeps me from fully committing to the twelve step process has been the higher power piece. Even when I was a full-blooded Christian, I could never get past step two. Step one is about admitting that you have an addiction and that your life is completely fucked. There were never any doubts about me having any problems with crack cocaine. Once I start, I don't stop until all my money is gone, and that is a hard undeniable truth for me. I am an addict and either I'm an active addict or I'm an addict in recovery. Now the next step, step two, this is where you are supposed to believe that a power greater than yourself can restore you to sanity, JACKPOT. My higher power was the Christian God and we aren't or have never really been on any speaking terms. Not even when I left Christianity, could I get a new or working concept of a higher power that could possibly do anything for me. Until now, down here at rock bottom. I figured out my higher power.
My God
I now believe that God is a force that lives in each of us that works to move towards love or simply what's better for us as a collective and what we do daily either moves us closer or farther from that source. But more to come about my higher power because I'm still working it out. Should make for some good podcast episodes.
So here  I am on day three and step two, with my higher power working it out one day at a time.
Wish me luck!
