Soooo quick summary for those who are not on Twitter

First a bit of context, here's how I proceed in order to handle such huge amounts of volo content that need curating. First I use tweetdeck (Fig.1), an official service that allows me to run multiple searches in parallel. I run advanced searches with smart filtering, this is how I find things. Then when I find content that meet the account policies, I put them in a Collection, a fancy name to designate what is just an arbitrary list of tweets. It's like a box for cool rocks. Finally, an algorithm that I coded will make API calls every 3 hours to fetch a few tweets, remove them from the collection and retweet them publicly. (Then I get tons of notifications lol)

So you may be aware that Twitter has been a shitshow of bad decisions since clown in chief is there. Well here are their last fucking genius ideas to mess with us (and jeopardise the account in the way)

Last week they announced that the API (free until then) would be paywalled. In ONE WEEK. That will effectively kill all the cool free tools and nots that you know. It does kill step 3 of my process. Vexing.

Clown in chief say it will probably be 100$/months wtf

I spent a few hours coding a solution that doesn't use the API and rethink my process. Yay minimal effort but we're safe

So yeah basically pretty soon until I can't find volo art, even less curate it. Oh I can still RT it automatically (via unauthorised means). Except if I pay. This is fucked up and I am angry and fed up :)

TL;DR clown in chief is a bitch (nothing new) paywalling everything, and it may lead to the death of the Twitter account. Great.

Today in: The Death of Twitter

Here's the rundown:

Twitter had its employees sign forced-arbitration agreements

Twitter offered generous severance/benefits payouts to people they fired

Musk bought the company and initiated mass layoffs

Former employees allege they were given the axe for illegal discriminatory reasons [link]

Musk reneges on promised severance/benefits [link] [link]

Employees file a class-action lawsuit in court, it gets dismissed because of the arbitration agreement [link]

Almost TWO THOUSAND employees file arbitration claims since they can't sue in court. Twitter's law firm says they'll drown in paperwork from all the arbitration cases [link]*

Which brings us to today:

Twitter refuses to pay for arbitration services (as required by the arbitration agreements signed by employees)

Toss arbitration costs onto the pile of things that Twitter can't afford: their rent, their cloud services, their loan interest payments…

*In a class-action lawsuit, all the proceedings, depositions, document searches, etc, get combined and streamlined. The legal fees are cheaper. Arbitration cases cannot be combined, so all those depositions and paperwork have to be redone for every case. People have compared mass-arbitration filing to a DDoS attack.
