ITS TIME ITS TIME

my unhinged laurance zvahl headcanons 🫠

- Laurance has a BUNCH of ear piercings. Candenza made him swear not to get any facial piercings, and she's one of the only people he listens to. He did get a belly button piercing to spite her tho :)

- He has a lot of nervous ticks. He used to play with his hair when it was long, but when Cadenza cut it, he started cracking his knuckles and picking at his nailbeds. When Aphmau notices him doing this, she lets him play with her hair.

- GARRANCEMAU. POLYCULE. It was kind of unspoken for a while, and then Garroth got left behind in the Irene Dimension. So, Laurance and Aph got really close. However, nothing was official so she got with Aaron. Laurance and Garroth only ever realized after he had died. Garroth understood, he knew that the polycule wasn't too serious. However, Laurance on the other hand, didn't understand that. Plus, he was dealing with the calling and whatnot. There was a rift in the relationship for a while after that.

- All of the kids in the village love Laurance. I mean, we know he was one of Malachai's biggest role models, and Laur had also grown attached to him. But, he also kinda becomes Naoki (Nekoette but less problematic) and Dmitri's babysitter. He's always been good with kids, but MY IRENE he cannot handle Naoki. Leona also likes to hang around him, as well.

- Laurance used to have a fascination with fire when he was little. (i mean the man has adhd and u know how we r with fire.) He would stare at it for hours. It was the only thing that really calmed his brain. But now, he can't stand it. He can stay near a fire for warmth of course, but he's never the one to start or feed it. He can't look at it anymore. Too many memories. The fire is literally a part of him now. His new body was forged from it. There's no need to stare into the flames. He just has to look in the mirror.

- He's still blind, somewhat. His eyesight wasn't miraculously healed. He has to wash his face in the fountain of Lady Irene every so often, or his vision will completely blur. Even then, there's still spots that never go away, mostly on the outer field of his vision. He has reading glasses, as well.

- He's very physically affectionate. He plays with Aphmau's hair. He grazes over Garroth's hands constantly, running his thumb on all the marks in his palm or his scarred knuckles. When he was younger, he would always find something to fiddle with on Cadenza's clothes.

- He would model for Cadenza a lot. Before becoming a Shadow Knight, he was very comfortable in his body and his masculinity, so playing dress up was honestly very fun.

- Laurance always has to do something with his hands, so he takes up a lot of different crafts. Tying knots, woodcarving (thank you @xerith-42 for that one lmao), making jewelry. (In my hc my OC taught him how to make jewelry, but we don't have to get into that now haha)

- Laurance has Brazilian heritage, and even though he was an orphan, there's a large Brazilian population in Meteli and he was raised around the culture. Hayden kept Laurance very informed on his roots, and in turn Cadenza got to experience all of this as well. (I wanna go into this further at some point but I want to do the proper research first.)

- Since SKs don't need as much sleep, most nights Laurance just wanders Phoenix Drop. That's why he's usually the first to know when something's wrong.

- Before Laurance became an official guard, he was sort of a... vigilante. Bringing justice in the dead of night type beat. When he was younger, in his early teens, there was a high crime rate in Meteli. So, if Laurance saw someone stealing, or trying to break in somewhere, he'd tie them up and leave them outside the guard station for the authorities to deal with them.

so i read this two-part rpf story called "the strange passion of junot" with my very, very poor french reading comprehension (with translating help) a while back on gallica and @laurentouttan has kindly helped me with some translation on the preface so ty!!!🫶

i'll be paraphrasing here and if I'm incorrect on anything pls let me know

The author of this novel, Suzanne de Callias, mentions she used a lot Laure's and Thiébault's memoirs but also based on the oral memories (unpublished documents?) left by "Monsieur Vial", who had been a friend of the author's grandfather. This M. Vial had been close with the Junot family and even met Junot in 1813 just before he succumbed to his illness.

-> I always thought it just used their memoirs as a backdrop but I guess it's based on family lore as well o_O

(not shown in the pic) She writes how nature is not always clear and that some people have so many feelings that they mistake friendship for love just like Junot did for Napoleon. Friendship can also be à burning passion just like love which is absolutely true in the case of Junot. IMO I don't think Junot even knows the true nature of his affections .

The author wrote that Junot loves slapping people in the buttocks looool but it's a semi-fictional account I'm going take it with thousands grain of salt but I see him actually doing that ? 😭 please note I'm aware this a very dubious source and I'm sharing this for the funsies. If some of the OTT romantic language used in the story is true, I find it funny how Junot's passion for Naps was noted by so many people and passed on over generations. XD i'm not completely delulu

My editing process is pretty simple, considering reshade does a lot of the heavy lifting. I use a slightly edited version of Sunset & Vinyl (I just changed the vibrance and adof settings).

I use Photopea to edit. I like to use this psd template provided by @buglaur. You just have to resize your screenshots. Even if you don’t use a reshade, the psd file has nice coloring overlays that work well with the vanilla coloring/lighting.

If you’re editing more than one shot, I find it easier to put all of the photos into a single folder, then resizing the folder as a whole using Free Transform (grab a corner and drag while holding Alt/Cmd so it can resize uniformly from the image’s center). I just delete each image layer after i edit them^^

After my images are resized, I use the same Oil Paint and Sharpen settings laur provides except i turned them into an action.

My favorite and most used fonts are Porcelain Journal and ITC Benguiat Gothic (Sims 2 font). There's also The Sims Sans if you want a Sims 4 style font.

Spoilers for All The Light We Cannot See. I heavily recommend that you read this book blind. 

Anthony Doerr’s modern classic All The Light We Cannot See opens on leaflets, falling from the sky, then mortars raining fire upon the German-occupied seaside town of Saint-Malo, during the last days of World War 2. Then Bombers crossing the English Channel at midnight. Finally, we are introduced to our two main characters, who do not meet until the last few chapters of the book. 

All The Light We Cannot See’s title derives its name from electromagnetic waves, crisscrossing the world in invisible light, connecting our two characters together. Meticulously beautiful in its prose, with heartbreakingly realistic character-driven stories, All The Light We Cannot See is easily the best book I’ve read this year. 

Sure, its unique presentation, split into fourteen “parts”, each jumping from time period to time period, and with some of the shortest chapter lengths in modern stories makes getting used to it a challenge, but once the reader overcomes the confusion created, they are introduced into a complex, interweaving story that ties its characters together only through the violence of the war.

Marie-Laure is introduced in the third chapter, which takes place chronologically 9 years after the next chapter featuring her. Over the progression of the story, we jump back and forth between Marie-Laure at the start of the war, fleeing Paris, and Marie-Laure at the end of the war, hiding in her grand-uncle’s house in Saint-Malo as the town is besieged by Allied forces, until both storylines eventually meet. 

Werner Pfennig’s story begins in the fourth chapter, as a German soldier hiding in the Hotel of Bees, five streets to the north of Marie-Laure. In the next part, he is an orphan with a sister, Jutta, and a knack for machines. We follow him as he is recruited into a military academy for the Hitler Youth, witness his friend Frederick bullied, and beaten so badly he becomes an amnesiac. He is then placed in a Wehrmacht squad including the burly but gentle Volkheimer, and becomes increasingly disillusioned with the Nazi regime. Eventually, by the end of the book, he meets Marie-Laure and is captured by the Americans, before being killed by a landmine.

The book also follows the perspectives of von Rumpel, a Sergeant Major who slowly goes insane trying to find the Sea of Flames, which Marie-Laure’s father has in his possession until he hides it in a model of Saint-Malo he built for Marie-Laure. 

Anthony Doerr expertly weaves together these multiple plotlines into one converging story by the end of the book, tying them all together through two major plot details, the radio broadcasts and the Sea of Flames. All The Light We Cannot See is so full of detail and attention that I just can’t talk about everything, like the letters from Marie-Laure’s father in prison, and how his story is left open-ended, like many did after the war, or the use of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea as a metaphor 

But, where this book goes from masterpiece to modern classic is in the final chapter. The year is 2014, and Marie-Laure walks the streets of Paris with her grandson Michel, about to turn twelve. He plays a video game on his phone, and asks her if she wanted anything for her twelfth birthday. She replies that she did, and that she wanted 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea by Jules Verne. Then, we are treated to some of the finest prose of the decade; about electromagnetic waves no less. How they intertwine our lives together, how souls might travel along them too, how they are a library and the record of every life ever lived. 

Final Rating: 95/100 - Absolute Perfection

there absolutely is going to be a love interest...his name is thomas and he's a dumb dumb idiot but he and jane are like...magical rivals to lovers vibes. yes. not quite enemies to lovers, more rivals than anything.

AND i have face claims for them! i used artbreeder to find images that looked the most like my characters do in my own head, and here's the main three!
