UM takes place 1 year after the events of 14DWY, and as such, I won't be talking about any of the spoilers from the game. I just wanna thank you all again for the support today, whether it was just by liking or reblogging, commenting and interacting, following me, sending in an ask or request, or making a full-on moodboard for me out of pure kindness!

I have had an incredibly hard day with my anxiety over having a constant extremely sore throat, but all of your support helped to guide me through it. I thought I wasn't gonna be able to sleep tonight because of it, but with all the continued support and interactions today, I finally feel soothed enough to try.

I started this blog to spread awareness about placekin, and it seems like I've done just that. I'll rest easy knowing that all of you little gremlins on my phone found something of value in me or this blog today.

Evidence for each argument beneath the cut!

Open marriage

The Doctor's wedding to Marilyn Monroe occurs in A Christmas Carol, when he storms off to a chapel with lipstick marks on his face. “I’ll just go and get married then, shall I? See how you like that. Marilyn? Get your coat!”

While he wasn't yet with River then, he maintains this relationship afterwards, apparently with River involved. In the mini-episode Good Night, the Doctor enters the TARDIS with a euphonium, calling over his shoulder, “River! I’ll see you later! Tell Marilyn she’s too late, she’ll have to use the biplane. Take care!”

Another piece of evidence comes from The Wedding of River Song, when they're passive-aggressively flirting.

“Hallucinogenic lipstick. Works wonders on President Kennedy. And Cleopatra was a real pushover.” “I always thought so.” “She mentioned you.” “What did she say?” “Put down that gun.” “Did you?” “Eventually.” “Oh, they're flirting. Do I have to watch this?” (from Kovarian)

I've never understood the innuendo (please tell me what I'm missing), but Kovarian does, and as we know from The Husbands of River Song, the Doctor and River are both married to Cleopatra, so… it's definitely something.

There's also that diary page in The Eternity Clock game that suggests the Doctor, River, and Jim the Fish got blackout drunk at karaoke night and started “some sort of religion of love” which went on to last for centuries.

Serial cheaters

“How can you be engaged, in a manner of speaking?” The Doctor is jealous in Flesh and Stone before he's even kissed her, which doesn't set him up as a person who'd be interested in an open marriage.

“No, wait. That's your husband? That's who you're married to? Not anybody else?” In The Husbands of River Song, the Doctor is clearly not expecting the other husbands. Culminating in the same episode…

“So, King Hydroflax?” “Oh, how many times? I married the diamond!” “So you say.” “Elizabeth the First!” “Ramone!” “Marilyn Monroe!” “Stephen Fry!” “Cleopatra!” “Same thing!”

It appears he is well aware of her other spouses (and that she's aware of his); so perhaps his surprise was more that didn't expect her to be so flagrant about them. It makes him insecure (“I posed as his nurse. Took me a week.” “To fall in love?” “It's the easiest lie you can tell a man. They'll automatically believe any story they're the hero of.”) enough to start an argument about it.

River also expresses her jealousy as an obvious fact, as seen in The Day of the Doctor Novelization (written by Moffat who (along with Alex!!) knows the character best):

“Ow!” “Madame de Pompadour?” “Jealous?” “Of course I’m jealous. Keep your hands off her.”

In The Name of the Doctor, we learn that the Doctor, who has had a number of... sexually-charged moments with Clara (including, but not limited to, Victorian Clara), has avoided telling her that River is his wife. Vastra is uncomfortable with having to introduce them, having “gone a darker shade of green.”

“The Doctor might have mentioned me?” “Oh, yeah. Oh yeah, of course he has. Professor Song! Sorry, it's just I never realized you were a woman.” (from Clara)

Actually both

This could mean many things (i.e. open marriage with boundaries which are violated), but potentially, all the same evidence from prior arguments! With a shade of “Our lives are back to front.”

In the mini-episodes First Night/Last Night, when River, having burst into the TARDIS and pretended to faint, mistakes her past self for another woman the Doctor's hiding from her, she openly expresses jealousy.

“Doctor. Have you brought someone else here? Does anyone agree to wear that dress? Where is she!” “River, think it through!” “This happened the last time we were here. You brought someone else!” “No I didn’t!” “Yes you did, I heard you talking to her!”

However, when a third and significantly older version of River makes the same mistake, she no longer expresses jealousy, but rather curiosity, which could at least signal a shift in how she sees their marriage.

Maybe there was a conversation that happened. Maybe it slipped the Doctor's mind when he forgot Clara.

Actually neither

This could also mean multiple things, but one of those things is this. The Doctor is a widower from the start. Likewise, River is well aware of Doctor's death on Trenzalore, “of course River would know, she's always known,” having been raised to prevent those events, and having refused to be bound by that destiny.

How can fidelity be defined the same way for time travelers? Everyone's spouses are dead somewhen. River understands the paradox of her husband's existence better than anyone. To quote The Day of the Doctor Novelization yet again…

‘Because you live in a time machine. All of history is still happening outside those doors. On a good night that means everyone you ever met is still alive and you can’t wait to see them again. On a bad night, it means everyone’s dead, and you want to charge around the universe, pretending you can do something about that.’ She looked up at me. ‘I know which version of you I prefer.’ 

And there she was, so alive again. I remembered her, twisted, burnt and dead, in the depths of The Library. ‘What if there are people who died because of me?’ I asked. ‘What if there are people I should have saved?’

‘People die. All people, everywhere. We grieve and we move on. That is how we respect the dead. That is how we forgive ourselves in their presence and their absence.’

favorite: Does your OC have a favorite article of clothing or accessory? What is it? What's the meaning behind it? Do they wear it all the time or do they wear it sparingly to keep it safe?

His favorite article of clothing is something he only got back quite recently - it's a collection of things actually.

Back in his Sidestep days he collected and wore hero merch of his friends and teammates a lot more publicly than he does now. River had a collection of Ranger themed jackets that he sometimes wore over his Sidestep suit instead of his normal jacket.

Julia kept it amongst the rest of his (sparse) belongings for years - never having the heart to throw it away. River only just got most of that stuff back, he still adores the jackets but just wears them at home or in his base (it does get him a few raised eyebrows from the crew). If any of the Rangers (read: Julia) saw him wear them still he'd never live it down. (the socks being found out was emberassing enough thank you very much).

face: Describe your OC's face. What's their smile like? Are their orbs cerulean? What would someone notice first when looking at them?

Notable is the large scar that travels alongside the left side of his face and his excessive amounts of freckles and the few well places moles. (and his pretty hazel eyes)

"What is their smile like?" I read - and then proceeded to draw exactly what it looked like for an hour.

River doesn't smile much does he - I definitely didn't have any art at the ready of how it looked like. Some people might get a tiny smile or smirk out of him but a genuine laugh is wide and full of teeth - he hides his actual laugh behind hands, he's quite emberassed about it really.

⚡ - Does this oc have any unusual or “irrational” fears? tons. kw is extremely fearful In General. she's got lots of the usual phobias -- small spaces, spiders, heights, dogs, the ocean -- but she's also scared of like. anything that moves too fast. anything that's too loud. she's a feral animal and anything unfamiliar raises her hackles. the only thing that Doesn't scare her is people. she's not afraid of AnyOne.

🗡️ - Does this oc have a signature object, accessory, or weapon? the 'k' literally stands for knife. <3 you will not find them without several knives on their person or within reach at all times. they specifically carry a black pocket knife with a black blade, usually clipped onto the front of their jeans.

🌱 - Share one of this oc’s early memories. most of kw's earliest memories are from when she first came into the care of her aunt. she was 4ish/5ish at the time and everything before that was such trauma-smeared chaos that she can really only recall how jarring it was to be taken into a calm, stable environment. so like, the first time she slept in a room that was hers, in a bed by herself. or the first time she got to open a full-sized fridge and eat whatever she wanted out of it. or being taken to the store and bought clothes that actually fit her. that kind of thing.

my VERY favorite animals are otters (and mustelids in general), cats, and horses! i also really really like reptiles (all reptiles but especially snakes and lizards), coyotes, deer, just about every kind of bird, and lots of others alsdkfjsadf

i like bugs too tho! i'm a basic bitch bc i do really like butterflies but i think my favorite bugs are mantids! walkingsticks are very cool, too :D also, bug-adjacent, i LOVE LOVE LOVE spiders and harvestmen!!!

Eros 3 - How do they feel about public displays of romantic affection? Does it make them uncomfortable? How do they feel if a romantic partner kisses them in public?

Maxwell is not going to initiate any public affection. Ever. You cannot make them and they do not enjoy receiving it either. Privately that’s fine. But if you even look at them with the intent of touching them in public they will send you such a murderous look - and if you do it they refuse to talk to you for days.

However like with many things. Daniel Sullivan is the exception. Which makes Maxwell seethe with rage - why does Daniel get to get away with everything? Why has his subconscious decided he is the exception? Infuriating.

Philia 4 - Is your OC able to build close friendships with people very different from themselves? Perhaps in terms of culture, age or personality?

By the definition of his actual age and the lack of proper culture outside of farm training. Yes on those technicalities. :P

In all seriousness I would say yes, but it’s infinitely harder. It’s not impossible, River was thought how to be pleasant to any target, but he needs at least a base commonality. It can be as simple as ‘same job/goal’ or ‘we like the same other person’ but it needs to be something he can work off of, otherwise he gets uncomfortable and awkward in conversation.

Agape 2 - Does your OC feel a spiritual connection to the world around them? Do they have a particular love for nature or living things?

Answering for River, as my most telepathy reliant and fate step.

He wouldn’t describe it as spiritual himself - but yes. He is very aware of the world around him at all times - of the thoughts and thus the lives of those around him. Any thinking creature - human or animal - is somebody that River feels quite directly connected to thanks to the telepathy.

Nature is a bit more difficult; trees do not think in any way the he can discern. But he does appreciate the beauty of nature - especially sea life. River doesn’t understand it but water calls to him, not in a literal siren song sense but it draws him in. If he hadn’t escaped back to Los Diablos he probably still would’ve ended on the coastline anyway.

The only creature he dislikes is seagulls. Fuck those birds.

* brief warning : blade kills a man, very blade of him. (his is also more of a joke im sorry blade lovers) ALSO THIS PROGRESSIVELY GETS SHORTER EACH CHARACTER, I JUST REALLY LIKE DAN HENG IM SORRY LMAO.

DAN HENG can't hide the way his eye twitches, how tightly he grips onto his spear or the way he'd mutter things under his breath. He despises it when he's jealous, but he hates it more when he sees the reason for doing so.

He knows he's.. not exactly like all your previous partners, it stemmed an insecurity in him. He wasn't all too funny, and knew he couldn't make you laugh with a corny joke.

So the way Sampo keeps making you laugh, making you smile, it was sparking a jealous flame in his heart. But more than anything, it saddened him that he couldn't make you laugh like that.

God, your smile was so pretty.

After a while, he interlocks his fingers with yours and mutters a small 'Can we go?' to you. You immediately notice his saddened tone, and thank Sampo for his time before walking home with your boyfriend.

"Dan Heng?" You say softly, noticing his rather saddened mood. He lets out a small hum to acknowledge your call for him, and you sigh. "Are you upset?"

He nods his head.

"Is it.. because of Sampo?"

He hesitates, but that alone gives you an answer.

Dan Heng takes a deep breath, before looking at you, his eyes filled with honesty. "I was.. jealous. I know I can't make you laugh the way he does, and it frustrates me. I want to be a man who makes you smile everyday but-"

Amidst his rant, he sees how your gaze softened at his words. This entire time, he was insecure? He hid it well, so well, at the very least from you. "I'm sorry, this is stupid-"

"N-no! It's not, I should be apologizing if anything! I failed to realize these things.. I'm sorry, my love. Sampo.. he makes me laugh, but you make my heart flutter. You make me feel things no one else can, okay? I'm yours, as you are mine."

He smiles at you, he's just happy he communicated his feelings, and you understood. "I'll be sure to try and tell you how I feel next time, okay? As long as you promise you'll stop hanging out with him. I was honestly afraid I was gonna have to get rid of him."

You blinked a few times, but he sighs. "I'm kiddinngg.."

JING YUAN knows he's far too good of a man, therefore doesn't get jealous.

He's yet to be disproven in the first part, but his golden eyes are filled with annoyance as the stares of a certain enemy of his lingers far too long on you.

You were filling in for Yanqing, he was absent for the day (something about falling into an ice cold river and getting sick or something...) and so someone needed to be there as the General would be meeting Blade.

And Jing Yuan couldn't ignore how Blade's eyes never left your form while he spoke, hanging your head down low and so you wouldn't notice. That made him greatly annoyed, almost unable to focus, but he had a mission at hand. And so he forced his jealousy to subside.

Needless to say, the small marks on your neck was embarassing to have seen in public. (And the small bird constantly pecking at Blade's hair was definitely also not Jing Yuans doing.)

GEPARD is so understanding, he evaluates every situation with logical thinking, as expected as a leader.

So it wasn't hard to figure out the intentions of the 'friend' that was speaking to you, how their voice was almost sweeter, and the way they clinged onto your arm was signalling red flags.

Gepard wouldn't have minded this, it could've easily been friendly gestures, but Serval is one of your closest friends and you were within a friendgroup. And she knows that person has a crush on you, and it was painfully obvious.

So naturally, he swiftly and surpisingly gently pulls you from the waist out of their grasp especially with how firm his grip around you was. He gives them a not so friendly glare, and plants a soft kiss to your lips. "My partner." He states, pulling you close as you're left to be stunned with the sudden posessiveness of your partner. "Mine."

Blade simply stares down at the person even attempting to approach you with clearly bad intentions. And if they dare to try to push their luck, Blade comes home with blood on his hands.

"What did you do??" You'd ask, you already knew the answer after already learning what Blade was truly like. "What was necessary." He replied, a kiss on your cheek as he walks in through the door to wash his hands.
