5, 6, 18 for HP questions!
(This is @uefb, but I can’t ask from a sideblog)
Ohh thank you for the ask! I absolutely love these games.
5. Could a Niffler be an Animagus form? Bc if so, I really do think I might be that, actually. Pretty, shiny things always catch my eye. Though I might not rob a bank just to get my hands on those haha.
6. (I have seen the movies, but I assume that DA is Dumbledore's Army and not Dark Arts?) I definitely would have. If it was between that and siding with Umbridge, hands down DA. Is it breaking the rules? Yeah. Is it worth it? Yeah.
18. This one, I had to think. I would say Hermione.
Send me numbers!

Inspired by this post by @roselightfairy and replies by @herrhasen, @enide-s-dear, @unnamedelement, @dragonfirez, and @carlandrea.
If you'd like to refresh your memory of the Fellowship at its bitchiest (and Boromir at his best), the relevant text is below the cut.
Excerpted from The Fellowship of the Ring, Book II, Chapter 3: The Ring Goes South
Gimli looked up and shook his head. 'Caradhras has not forgiven us.' he said. 'He has more snow yet to fling at us, if we go on. The sooner we go back and down the better.'
To this all agreed, but their retreat was now difficult. It might well prove impossible. Only a few paces from the ashes of their fire the snow lay many feet deep, higher than the heads of the hobbits; in places it had been scooped and piled by the wind into great drifts against the cliff.
'If Gandalf would go before us with a bright flame, he might melt a path for you,' said Legolas. The storm had troubled him little, and he alone of the Company remained still light of heart.
'If Elves could fly over mountains, they might fetch the Sun to save us,' answered Gandalf. 'But I must have something to work on. I cannot burn snow.'
'Well,' said Boromir, 'when heads are at a loss bodies must serve, as we say in my country. The strongest of us must seek a way. See! Though all is now snow-clad, our path, as we came up, turned about that shoulder of rock down yonder. It was there that the snow first began to burden us. If we could reach that point, maybe it would prove easier beyond. It is no more than a furlong off, I guess.'
'Then let us force a path thither, you and I!' said Aragorn.
Aragorn was the tallest of the Company, but Boromir, little less in height, was broader and heavier in build. He led the way, and Aragorn followed him. Slowly they moved off, and were soon toiling heavily. In places the snow was breast-high, and often Boromir seemed to be swimming or burrowing with his great arms rather than walking.
Legolas watched them for a while with a smile upon his lips, and then he turned to the others. 'The strongest must seek a way, say you? But I say: let a ploughman plough, but choose an otter for swimming, and for running light over grass and leaf or over snow-an Elf.'
With that he sprang forth nimbly, and then Frodo noticed as if for the first time, though he had long known it, that the Elf had no boots, but wore only light shoes, as he always did, and his feet made little imprint in the snow.
'Farewell!' he said to Gandalf. 'I go to find the Sun!' Then swift as a runner over firm sand he shot away, and quickly overtaking the toiling men, with a wave of his hand he passed them, and sped into the distance, and vanished round the rocky turn.
The others waited huddled together, watching until Boromir and Aragorn dwindled into black specks in the whiteness. At length they too passed from sight. The time dragged on. The clouds lowered, and now a few flakes of snow came curling down again.
An hour, maybe, went by, though it seemed far longer, and then at last they saw Legolas coming back. At the same time Boromir and Aragorn reappeared round the bend far behind him and came labouring up the slope.
'Well,' cried Legolas as he ran up, 'I have not brought the Sun. She is walking in the blue fields of the South, and a little wreath of snow on this Redhorn hillock troubles her not at all. But I have brought back a gleam of good hope for those who are doomed to go on feet. There is the greatest winddrift of all just beyond the turn, and there our Strong Men were almost buried. They despaired, until I returned and told them that the drift was little wider than a wall. And on the other side the snow suddenly grows less, while further down it is no more than a white coverlet to cool a hobbit's toes.'
'Ah, it is as I said,' growled Gimli. 'It was no ordinary storm. It is the ill will of Caradhras. He does not love Elves and Dwarves, and that drift was laid to cut off our escape.'
'But happily your Caradhras has forgotten that you have Men with you,' said Boromir, who came up at that moment. 'And doughty Men too, if I may say it; though lesser men with spades might have served you better. Still, we have thrust a lane through the drift; and for that all here may be grateful who cannot run as light as Elves.'
'But how are we to get down there, even if you have cut through the drift?' said Pippin, voicing the thought of all the hobbits.
'Have hope!' said Boromir. 'I am weary, but I still have some strength left, and Aragorn too. We will bear the little folk. The others no doubt will make shift to tread the path behind us. Come, Master Peregrin! I will begin with you.'
He lifted up the hobbit. 'Cling to my back! I shall need my arms' he said and strode forward. Aragorn with Merry came behind. Pippin marvelled at his strength, seeing the passage that he had already forced with no other tool than his great limbs. Even now, burdened as he was, he was widening the track for those who followed, thrusting the snow aside as he went.
They came at length to the great drift. It was flung across the mountainpath like a sheer and sudden wall, and its crest, sharp as if shaped with knives, reared up more than twice the height of Boromir; but through the middle a passage had been beaten, rising and falling like a bridge. On the far side Merry and Pippin were set down, and there they waited with Legolas for the rest of the Company to arrive.
After a while Boromir returned carrying Sam. Behind in the narrow but now well-trodden track came Gandalf, leading Bill with Gimli perched among the baggage. Last came Aragorn carrying Frodo. They passed through the lane; but hardly had Frodo touched the ground when with a deep rumble there rolled down a fall of stones and slithering snow. The spray of it half blinded the Company as they crouched against the cliff, and when the air cleared again they saw that the path was blocked behind them.
'Enough, enough!' cried Gimli. 'We are departing as quickly as we may!'
And indeed with that last stroke the malice of the mountain seemed to be expended, as if Caradhras was satisfied that the invaders had been beaten off and would not dare to return. The threat of snow lifted; the clouds began to break and the light grew broader.
As Legolas had reported, they found that the snow became steadily more shallow as they went down, so that even the hobbits could trudge along. Soon they all stood once more on the flat shelf at the head of the steep slope where they had felt the first flakes of snow the night before.

Last Night I Dreamt I Went to Summerland again.
Vanimöré walked back from the barrow in the light, mild evening.
A Throne of Shadows.
Galadriel turned in the mouth of the pavilion.
Shattering.
So many dead...Sorrow lay over the land heavy as the fumes of ash that had vented from Orodruin.
A Fire in the Night.
The light struck the valley old-gold, shimmered in the waterfalls, painted frail rainbows through their spray.
Blood Kin.
The armies marched, lines of mounted cavalry gleaming under the pale spring sun.
Magnificat of the Damned Book IV: Anvil.
A soft clap of silence.
A Shadow over Genesis.

Share the first line of ten of your most recent fanfics and then tag ten people.
Don't have ten? Not to worry, just share what you have.
I was tagged by two super authors, @spiced-wine-fic and @sallysavestheday Thank you!
1. “Is this it?” Aegnor asked with an air of excitement.
2. Gellalaer emptied the contents of a small drawstring bag onto her workbench. Gems of all colors and sizes tumbled onto the scrap of velvet she had placed there.
3. “I think right here will do,” said Feanor, shrugging off his backpack and un-stoppering the lid to his water skin.
4. A cool wind rushed into the King’s pavilion, rustling papers and bringing with it the scent of salt and sea as the flaps were lifted by a guard and a figure entered.
5. Idhren placed a decorative dish filled with sumptuous roasted vegetables drizzling with honey on the dining table. She stepped back to run an appraising eye over the feast she had laid out for Prince Ereinion’s homecoming.
6. The day was warm and a little on the muggy side. It was one of the first of a three month campaign that would see Tirion swelter.
7. There was a chill to the brisk sea breeze that gusted in off the Belegaer, playfully lifting Eärwen’s silver hair and blowing it across her face.
8. The wind struck him in the face, leaving a sting not with its chill but with its ferocity and strength as he strode the cliffs above the grinding ice next to his brother-in-law Fingolfin.
9. Music and laughter wafted down the path towards Celebrimbor. It was such a welcome sound and took him back to happier times in Himlad.
10. “One, two, three…,” Fëanor counted. Then he cursed, realising one of his sons was missing. He sighed heavily, running a hand down his face in utter frustration.

Chapter 3 of With his head under one wing by @uefb done. Still got a few. More chapters to read to catch up. I might just post each chapter as I finish reading them, just so I can keep tabs on what chapter I’m actually on, since oa3 doesn’t have an app where it keeps your place like wattpad and ff.net do.
One of the scenes though made me chuckle and reminded me of the deleted scene in Newt’s house, where Theseus asks Newt why he asked him certain questions and Newt refuses to tell him until he knows more. Theseus goes on to accuse Newt of keeping secrets and the lines almost seem very similar to the deleted scene here:
In the same manner they both end up bickering for a few short seconds and like the scene in the film, Theseus ends it with an “Alright.” Except he says it twice whereas in this scene he only says it once. But still made me notice and go ‘oh, oh, oh, it’s like the deleted scene.’ I quite liked that little touch to this chapter. :)!

3 Things
@naryaflame thanks for tagging me and making me think of three things to share that I'm proud of from 2022...
... which I'm finding surprisingly difficult! I have no regrets, and there are things I'm happy about, yet nothing I'm consciously proud of.
Hmmm, let's see... *goes off and ponders; returns right before bedtime two days later* ...
One thing stands out, and it's a personal rather than fandom thing: learning to let seemingly hurtful or malicious things aimed at me by my mother — who is evidently sliding into dementia — slide themselves. Actually what I'm doing is reinterpreting them as things she's saying to make herself feel better, rather than as things intended to make me feel bad. She's used this for as long as I can remember, she's just far less subtle about it now. I'm not always successful, but when I am she becomes the kinder person she really is, and I think it's her (messed up but aren't we all) way of checking that she's still loved no matter what. (Of course it's a lot more complicated and nuanced than this, but this is just a brief tumblr post after all.)
Another two things that occur to me are connected: the is first allowing myself to let the artists of two of my three adopted Scribbles & Drabbles claims know, the day before reveals, that I was unable to submit their promised fics in time. I had been struggling with unidentified illness for months and was pretty much at the lowest point of my year then. I had allowed myself months to rest, believing I'd recover enough in time, but things worsened. I was going to push myself to force something out, but realised I was allowed to be affected by things affecting me, to be gentle on myself. Which is not an easy thing for me to do. (And for many people, I know! Even — and maybe especially — when we're the ones telling others to put their wellbeing first!)
The third thing is my brain promptly going "fuck that!" and writing ficlets for said adopted Scribbles & Drabbles artworks, with the words for one finally flowing till it was done at 3am, and then starting the other from 5am after a short sleep. (Who needs drugs when one's brain is over-efficient at producing cortisol and adrenalin, and shakes one awake saying "I have words!!! Grab your laptop!"?) Letting others down is anathema to me, and being told (or admitting) that I can't do something only acts as a motivator for me.
(I'm not sure whether the last two are things to be proud of, whether they actually cancel each other other out, or add up to something greater than the sum of their parts!?)
Anyway, that's about the most personal post you're likely to see from me on Tumblr!
I'm interested to know three things you're proud of from 2022 (if you'd like to share) @cuarthol, @melestasflight, @cycas, @polutrope, @lucifers-cuvette, @arizonapoppy, @elennalore, @starspray, @undercat-overdog, @unnamedelement, and anyone else who hasn't already been tagged and who would like to share.

Writer Tag Game
Thank you @minisugakoobies for the ask! I needed an excuse to procrastinate!
recommend 5 or more of your own works that you would rec to someone asking what they should read first & explain a little bit about the work. these can be the most popular, the ones you think are underrated, or your own favorites! then tag five (or more) other writers!
Grab bag of fandoms below the cut!
BTS:
Game Night - When I started writing about Muffin & Jimin, I didn't even know her nickname yet, and I thought it was a one-shot. I was mistaken about the one-shot thing. This is a very short introduction to them.
Tolkien:
Come, Leave the Sea and Let Us Run - Finduilas x Denethor - one of the most coherently plotted stories that I've ever written. The funny thing is that it was supposed to be something entirely different but the characters grabbed the steering wheel and said "this is what the story will be about."
Tapestries and Fate - Andreth & Finrod - A Magical Realism take on the Athrabeth. I am really proud of how this story turned out.
Star Wars:
One Week - Thryce - Who says songfic is over? I listened to sooo much tango music and watched sooo many tango exhibitions while I was writing this songfic of Barenaked Ladies' "One Week." But I am happy with how it turned out.
A Present for Master Billaba - Caleb Dume & Depa Billaba - Everyone lives and nobody dies! I was trying to write a happy-ending version of "The Gift of the Magi."
I will tag (with no pressure, as usual):
@unnamedelement @myevilmouse @independence1776 @inconocible @anerea-lantiria

10 First Lines
Tagged by @sallysavestheday; thank you! I feel fortunate to get tagged in this one pretty regularly by writer friends, but it's fun to revisit every time. So - the first lines of my 10 most recent fics, looking for patterns . . .
It strikes me that this is an interesting question, actually, because I've written quite a few ficlets recently that I haven't put up, and I wonder if the ficlets are different from longer stories. So I think what I'll do is the first lines of the four most recent published stories, as I think those are the only things I've posted since I last did this, and then the last six ficlets, and we'll see what happens.
The Force is at one with the universe. (from Balance)
Birdsong eased Legolas from sleep to wakefulness: weaving into his dreams like the voice of a guide from one state to the other, leading him gently along a wooded path and out towards the eaves of the forest. (from a published ficlet)
Being the leader of a pirate band was not always the most lucrative position. (from The Rewards of Optimism)
Anduril II was, as planets went, a good place to lie low. (from Here and Now, and yes I did name a Star Wars planet after Aragorn's sword)
Every time he wakes up, Obi-Wan has to adjust to reality anew. (unpublished ficlet the last)
It was not the last time Aayla would walk through the palace of Theed, but it felt like it. (unpublished ficlet the penultimate)
“Breathe.” (unpublished ficlet the antepenultimate)
“It’s just not – ‘s’jus’not” – Anakin pawed at the table, rocking slightly back and forth as if for emphasis, “not fair.” (unpublished ficlet, but I am going to post this one eventually because I'm so amused by it)
“Come on, Obi-Wan.” (unpublished ficlet)
Rie was quiet this evening. (unpublished ficlet that I may or may not post as its own work eventually)
There's only one LOTR fic on this list, but it does crack me up how immediately obvious the stylistic difference is. I've been writing outside LOTR for so long now that sometimes I despair over the quality of my writing, but it's actually just because I'm a fic chameleon and LOTR fandom has such a distinctive flowery prose style. I miss it a lot, but unfortunately it's not where the brain-on-fire is happening right now. :( Still, it's very very fun to slip back into when I can. Like a comfy bathrobe.
Like sallysavestheday before me, I am big on the "in medias res" short first line, apparently. (I almost always follow it up with much more context-heavy explanation.) Dialogue, mantras, and quips abound!
Tagging @tathrin, @katajainen, @unnamedelement, and anyone else who wants to play!
