Okay but, how good would a Ghoul Boys cartoon be? Like each episode would be a mix of their camera views and a bird's eye view of them hunting ghosts.
You could have them calling out for ghosts to strangle them or touch them and have frustrated ghosts screaming and punching them through the head only for them to not notice.
Or they use the spirit box and are giggling to themselves over it sounding like it says poop or something while a ghost or demon is howling in frustration. A ghost giving a whole soliloquy and all that comes through the spirit box is just like the word door or something.
And you could watch a demon follow them home at the end of the episode, or follow them to a few houses before they somehow accidentally exorcise it or it just gets frustrated and leaves.
I just think it would be frustratingly fun.

Fic Author Self-Rec
I was tagged by @qqueenofhades mwah dear!
When you get this, reply with your favorite five fics that you've written, then pass on to at least five other writers. Spread the self-love. ❤
I know what I would pick for the five if I was being fully honest - it's the same five I've repeatedly picked before (Reincarnation AU, Hades!Buck AU, Zombie Apocalypse AU, Ghost!Buck AU, and Hades!Eddie AU). But I wanted to challenge myself and pick five fics from this year, 2024, since it is the end of the year and it would be nice to look back on it.
I wrote far more fanfic than I planned (728,600 words), including a threesome collection and a rarepair (77k words for a Midsomer Murders fic what is wrong with me). I had hoped to surprise post my big Xedgin fic as a new year's gift but that ended up not happening, alas. I haven't forgotten it though and while I am now 100% focused on my original novels I promise to find time to post it.
Anyway enough navel-gazing, here are my five favorite fics from this year!
Racing with the Brakes Cut
My Fast & Furious AU that I wrote in a burst of inspiration after I was made to marathon the series with friends. I had a lot of fun writing it. There's a very particular feel to the first F&F film - a vibe of Los Angeles in the dog days of summer, a sense of desperate people living in the beautiful grit of the city, a feeling of messy found family, and a particular brand of homoeroticism, that I wanted to capture. I like to think I succeeded.
Held Up a Lightning Rod (Wonder Why I'm Struck)
THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO JUST BE A FUN SUGAR BABY AU. I predicted it would be around 60k words and it turned out double that number. But I'm really proud of how I wove seasons one through four into this canon and ended up incorporating Buck and Eddie's alternate relationship into the canon. This is also a fic I posted chapter by chapter and the responses I got from everyone along the way were delightful. I think this might be one of my most popular fics, actually. I just had a blast writing it and responding to everyone's comments, it really felt like a community, and that's what fic and fandom are all about.
Connected the Dots in Reverse (But Still Completed the Picture)
This is a Ghost Files/Unsolved AU and that proved to be a challenge. How do you capture the feeling of watching a video in a written work? How do you replicate the banter and the humorous editing? I also had to watch the entire two series over again to pick what locations and quotes I wanted to incorporate into the fic, so that was a lot. But I had a lot of fun writing it. It was especially fun to get to lean into Eddie's sassy, goofy, Buck-enabling side.
The Blood Between My Teeth is My Own
I am so proud of myself that this was only 32k. YAY, ME! I love the 118 as werewolves, and it was great to finally dive into that with a fic that had a proper plot. It was fun to explore Eddie's personal issues through the lens of lycanthropy, and I enjoyed depicting werewolves as properly monstrous rather than just big wolves or slightly-transformed humans. I wrote this in the span of about 72 hours and I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out.
I’m Not Breathing Unless I’m Giving You CPR
YES I KNOW THIS IS FROM 2023 BUT BEAR WITH ME. I wrote this fic as an experiment and was extremely nervous about its reception. I didn't think most people would read it or enjoy it. But if you look at my stats page for 2023, it has the most hits, second-most kudos, second-most bookmarks, and second-most comments. I'm floored, absolutely floored. Over the last year I've repeatedly gotten really lovely comments from people talking about how this fic has affected them, and it's really meant more than I can say. Especially as I dive into my novels which feature characters who are various levels of disaster and do often mess up, or are hard to love, or who make wrong or bad choices, or are mentally unwell, it's so encouraging to know that this darker fic that I really was nervous about has been so loved.
Tagging @extasiswings @tripleaxeldiaz @peridotglimmer @givemeunicorns and @princessfbi. No pressure but I hope as this (terrible) year comes to a close you all have a chance to look with pride at some of your writing!

hello tags!
i am currently looking for some writing partners over on d*scord. all i ask is that you're 21+, use realistic faceclaims, & not looking for someone to write just males for you.
under the cut you'll find some more info about me and some plots i've been wanting to do!
i reside in the pst timezone but i do tend to keep strange hours now that i'm on break from school.
i do write smut, but please don't make it the sole focus of our plots.
no fandoms.
i try to use faceclaims my partners request, but i do have my limitations (kpop stars, obx/tsitp casts, marvel actors).
i don't write m/m, sorry.
in terms of plots, i will not do anything fantasy, dark romance, sci-fi, steampunk, or magic-related. it's just not my vibe.
i write in third person, past tense. and i use tupperbox!
i tend to go over the discord character limit, but i also love short threads too <3
these are some general plot ideas i had:
lifelong best friends decide to become ghosthunters (think buzzfeed unsolved/ghost files but less co-worker and just two besties)
twitch streamer x youtuber
floral shop owner x tattoo artist
co-stars on a popular show/movie series having an affair and welp, accidental pregnancy!
single parent x their kid's teacher (maybe a slight age gap but nothing crazy).
musicians who hate each other in public but are hooking up in private
popstar x her producer
again musicians but fake dating even tho they hate each other but their label thinks they'd both write really good breakup songs about each other to help boost sales
band member x groupie
something daisy jones & billy dunne inspired
literally anything musician/band related. i am on my KNEES
these are some faceclaims i would love to write as or against (bold are against, italicized are as, and bold/italicized is both): harris dickinson, sabrina carpenter, jack o'connell, paul mescal, jacob anderson, halsey, calum hood, jeremy allen white, mackenyu, lynn gunn, avan jogia, zendaya, noah sebastian, sza, young mazino, dichen lachman, pedro pascal, fka twigs, chappell roan, keith powers, taylor russell, maika monroe, manny jacinto
not a full list, but just a general idea of faceclaims i like!
anyway, that's it for now lmao. but if you've made it this far and would like to write together over on d*scord, please give this post a like and i'll reach out!!!!

My Watcher Top 5 List
Happy 5 Years, Watcher Entertainment, and thank you for all the hard work you've done entertaining us all these years! Here's to MANY more!
5. Top 5 Beatdown
I am a HUGE list maker. You name the topic and I can guarantee you I have a list of preferences on it. (And will probably discover some way to work a DW reference into it.) This show was practically made for people like me because not only do I always make lists, but I'm always arguing with people about them. And I expect people to have serious, hardcore reasons for their preference. I am in NO WAY a "no thoughts, just vibes" kinda person and that reasoning will never hold any water for me.
4. Weird and/or Wonderful World
I love to travel and I love to go to out of the way places with my friends and family. This show, to me, is the personification of a good besties day out. Let's go see something neither of us has bothered to view before and weird people out with how weird we are together! Can you think of a better way to spend time with your best friend? Cos I can't.
3. Travel Season
This show is so beautifully put together. I was a big fan of Worth It (although I have a hard time rewatching it cos it always makes me hungry), so having Steven, Andrew, and Adam back together again was a dream come true for me. I had been hoping for it since Watcher Entertainment was announced. And then not only do I get the trio back together again with this, but I get an entirely new idea that isn't just Worth It Repackaged. It still is about food, but it's more about exploring a new culture together and seeing how the entire world's love and dependency on food shapes relationships and communities. I studied to be a missionary and one of the things we always focus on when we're meeting people and finding out ways to partner with communities of believers in separate countries is FELLOWSHIP. Aka eating together and discussing what matters. That is this show in a nutshell. It is a comfort show for me and one I constantly have on in the background.
2. Mystery Files
Don't get me wrong. I love my Ghost Files content, but there's a reason why this is on my list and Ghost Files isn't. I enjoy a good ghost hunt, but intellectually I am more stimulated trying to research and come to a conclusion about an unsolved mystery. I actually had not heard of a good number of these random mysteries. I do wish they would do more true crime like they did in their Buzzfeed days, but I also understand completely the toll that kind of research can take on your mental health. And they also probably got tired of trying to discuss that kind of thing while being a COMEDY show. True Crime and comedy don't always mesh very well so as I said, I get it. And obviously, with it being my number 2, I do enjoy it regardless of the change. My love of this show is based entirely on the fact that both Ryan and Shane get to host episodes and they can talk and joke about really weird, unexplained events in the world's history. What's not to love?
Puppet History
I was a history major back in undergrad, so this should surprise absolutely no one. (And in grad school, I studied church history and the history of the middle east and ancient languages, so there was still a lot of history involved in my master's degree.) I DO want to give credit where it's due. I've seen a lot of praise of Shane's work on this show in the Top 5 lists on here. And he does work hard on this! But shout out to all the other hard workers on this project! To the researchers (Kari Koeppel in particular, who seems to be the head researcher on 80% of these videos), to the puppet makers (Shane only made the original Professor. The others have been made by professionals), to the writer Garrett Werner, and the other voices for puppets that have joined the show in the years since the first season. Shane does deserve a lot of credit -- this is his brain child and season 1 was mainly his work when it came to designing the puppet theater and everything. Other people have always written the scripts though. But yeah. If you love history, I can't recommend this show enough. I won't lie -- some of their facts are a bit squiffy, but nothing TOO egregious, and usually the Professor (aka Shane) will admit in character that he doesn't know the answer to a question and Ryan will tell the Professor he should do more research, lol. I would say that this show is a great comedic introduction to these historical topics but just don't take any episode as the supreme historical authority on ANY of these topics. (My official TM piece of advice on any piece of edutainment.)

You know, now’s a good of a time as any to make a post about this
The vibes of Ghost Files and Mystery Files never compared to the vibes of Buzzfeed Unsolved
I think it was just the way it was presented I really liked Unsolved’s glorified PowerPoint presentations” I think is what someone jokingly called it once
And about the Watcher Pay Wall yeah they shouldn’t be doing it like this, people have been making Dropout comparisons but Dropout has a lot more content than Watcher does and has a lot more cast members than Watcher
Essentially Dropout has more to offer than Watcher where people mainly only watch two shows and watch other stuff with Ryan and Shane in it as a bonus

Trying to understand the logic of people saying they’re done with Watcher and Ryan and Shane but will turn around and watch Buzzfeed Unsolved which has *checks notes* Ryan and Shane.
Yeah tbh. I think I can kinda understand it, it's like you're listening to earlier albums of your fave music artist, because they changed the genre with their latest album and you don't vibe with their new songs or watch a tv show's earlier seasons because the later one's totally destroyed the characters you liked. (Happened to me, like some things seriously had only two seasons and I'm ignoring the five next ones and two movies or whatever.)
So in that aspect I can kinda get it. Bfu started 8 years ago, that's a whole almost decade, and sometimes you don't really think of the quality of the content (because I will once again die on the hill that waverly gf ep is much better than waverly bfu I'm still confused how a show this badly made took off in the yt algo back in the day), but what it made you feel like, or where you were in life when you first watched/got into it. There's a kind of nostalgia attached to it and I imagine all of those fans who are like "I hate ghost files but I loooove bfu it's my comfort show", don't really care that it's Ryan and Shane it's the familiarity of watching it over and over for years and it being more memeable and quotable because those lines got repeated and memed to death over the years.
For example I don't really find myself coming back to the earliest eps of bfu if I had to rewatch them. I much prefer Ryan's normal voice to his theory one, and that's because seasons 6 and 7 are when Watcher was a thing, and their interpersonal relationship changed to a more "I like it here, we are friends". In the earlier seasons they aren't that close, Shane is more closed off and assholeish towards Ryan, and well Ryan is younger and thus more kind of playing a cool dude. I feel like he got to be more himself as the years went on and I like that.
That's also the odd thing about being a fan of real people as there is an interesting dichotomy to it. Like on one hand I respect them for what they do their comedy/craft/ability to express their creativity. On the other there's the respect for them as individuals, acknowledging that at the end of the day they are like. Just some guys making stuff. And people grow and change. You're not the same person you were at 25 when you are 34, you are not the same person you were at 30 and 38, but since you got immortalized at 25 and 30 and continue to make content for years people expect you to be always like that. A character that doesn't change, or changes according to a logic of a story. But real life is so much stranger and more interesting than that! There's no logic to your actions, you make mistakes and grow from them. At the time of making a decision you have no idea if it's a good or bad one or how it will go, and if you think you do I don't think you had serious choices to make in your life yet. But I think people expect of them to be those characters who don't change or grow. I assume those people have no respect for Ryan and Shane as real human beings, because they have some imagined version of them how they are presented in those episodes they watched over and over. So to them it doesn't matter that bfu has Ryan and Shane, because those are seen as different characters, not the "evil greedy capitalists who made their own company", but your friends that you know the best because you can quote their lines as you watch them in the background. And additionally there's the nostalgia of watching your beloved show that makes you feel younger because life was simpler back then. You didn't have your worries of adult life because you were in college/high school, and bfu reminds them of that. The fact that it's not giving watcher any money is only better for the haters bc it's like pirating. You still enjoy your favorite part of your blorbos, and don't feed "the big evil watcher" so kinda best of both worlds.
Some people also can't admit that the content didn't change that much, they just lost interest/grew out of it (and it's fine, interests change that's normal), but that's not on them, that's surely on Ryan and Shane for changing and evolving in their craft.
Baffling to me tbh because if I was a fan of them I'd wish them well not for their downfall and contribute to lower views by giving it to a big corporation (which isn't watcher). But that's just me.
Sorry this got deep I just am so tired of people saying bfu is better. It's really not you just miss the person you were when you watched it for the first time. That's the case with every 'comfort' show. It's why it brings you comfort. Real people behind it don't really matter.

Wanted : Buzzfeed Unsolved rip-off. True crime and ghost tourism. Must be reasonably chill and anti-fash, bonus points for "steal from the rich" vibes. Please be less jerk-presenting than Ryan. Old-school Shane was fine, steal his schtick. (Other than the hot daga, we already did that, no need to repeat it.)
(You might say, "but butwhatisit, we already have Ghost Files!" and to you I say unfortunately the vibes are rancid with Watcher. We need a rip off of old school Unsolved, where everything was less fancy and felt more like dudes being dorks together.)

I think the difference between buzz feed unsolved and ghost files is the overall vibe. Buzz feed unsolved was so funny because it felt like, and it was, just two guys ducking around in spook houses. Watcher is two ghost hunters ducking around in spook houses. They got more professional and serious and less silly. I mean they're not suddenly serious about evidence, but they're no longer two dudes ducking around. And I think a big reason is cause it's their bussiness now, and they want it to do well, and they're taking it more seriously. Hence the bigger sets, the fancy equipment etc if I think of my favourite of their shows, now, I think of Puppet History, Too Many Spirits and Mystery Files. These aren't their headliner shows, their big ticket productions, and Ryan and Shane revert back to two dudes just fucking around (except for all the lore stuff in puppet history. I didn't care for it but Shane seemed to like it. Whatever makes my princess happy). I don't think they were wrong to make ghost files bigger and better, it's the natural next step after all. But I think this stumble of theirs (streaming service gag) kinda highlighted for the audience that ghost files isn't quite living up to unsolved, and actually we don't want bigger and better productions. We want two dudes to go to a fucked up location and act like a pair of idiots. Film it on your phones if you have to, but fans just wanna see the ghoul boys have fun.

It’s official: Ryan and Shane have ruined ghost hunting shows for me.
I am trying to watch the new show on Netflix ‘28 Days Haunted’ and I am just bored to tears. Everything is too convenient, responses are too quick, everyone is too serious, and it’s just no where near as fun. I would’ve loved it before BFU but now…nah.
Give me a scaredy cat believer and lanky goofy skeptic anytime and everytime. Can’t wait for Ghost Files season 2!!!
EDIT:
Yeah I totally think this show is bull.

2024 Fic Round Up
I was tagged by @princessfbi and oh lord. This year was supposed to be LESS fanfic. What a mess.
This year I wrote 13 fics (24 if we count the Bermuda entries as separate fics) totaling 728,600 words, shared an original novel, and finished sharing my Google doc fics in the collection Fractals from the Lightning Bolt.
January
Posted the epilogue to my massive vampire/reincarnated lover fic All My Shattered Oaths. This is one of my favorite fics. I don't know what I was cooking in October 2023 but it sure was something and I hope to bring that vibe into my original novels.
February
The lovely amazing @f0x-meets-w0lf posted his art he did for my Hades!Buck fic here!
March
Finished sharing my collection of "ficlets from the vault" in Fractals from the Lightning Bolt and posted Racing with the Brakes Cut, my Buddie F&F AU. That fic was SUCH a fun burst of inspiration and a joy to write and I was delighted by everyone's reactions.
April
Posted the first six entries of my BuddieTommy/Polyfire smut fic collection, Both Bermuda and Golden (Lost but Doing Just Fine).
May
Posted a BuckTommy smut fic coda to 7x06, Want You Like a Desert (Heat is Relentless, Thirst is Quenchless), as well as evidence of my descent into madness, a 77k fic titled Abstraction to Realism that is, of all things, a Winter/Jones fic for Midsomer Murders. But I love it so.
June
I posted the next two Bermuda entries and the 55k fic Descendants of Cyrano AKA "The Gang Plays D&D" which was a lot of fun. I wrote it with the goal that a reader could enjoy it even if they knew nothing about TTRPGs and it seems like I succeeded.
July
Lost my entire fucking mind and after posting a couple chapters in May and June, proceeded to write and post the next 18 chapters of Held Up a Lightning Rod (Wonder Why I'm Struck) in the span of three weeks. This fic is 129k. What HAPPENED TO ME. I also posted my gift fic for the fandom fic exchange, Paint Me in Neon and Make Me Glow, a BuckTommy exhibition kink exploration, along with two more entries in Bermuda.
August
Posted the last two Bermuda fics and started posting Baking is a Science but I Studied the Arts, my poly romcom that only ended up being 62k, bless. It's truly a silly comedy of errors, and it was fun to be more lighthearted in my fics over the summer.
September
Finished writing/posting Baking in two weeks. Goddamn.
October
HALLOWEEEEEEEEEN. Brace yourselves! We started off with my Incubus!Buck fic Take My Oxygen (This Plane is Going Down), inspired by the TV series Lost Girl and my own incubus ideas. Next was my 55k Buzzfeed Unsolved/Ghost Files AU, Connected the Dots in Reverse (But Still Completed the Picture), which was T-rated. I know, right? Then we got my Witch!Buddie AU, With Eyes on the Stars and Hands in the Earth. Inspired by Tamora Pierce, this one was also a lot of fun. Then not one but two werewolf fics, one more humorous and one a lot more serious, and both only around 30k what a goddamn miracle: I'll Eat You Instead of Chocolate (You're Sweeter Anyhow) The Blood Between My Teeth is My Own I honestly wasn't sure I'd finish anything after the Incubus!Buck fic ballooned to 73k and took longer than planned, so I'm grateful the other fics behaved wordcount-wise and I was able to finish strong.
November
Local writer found brain dead.
December
Local writer sloooooowly coming back to life and ready to tackle their original novels in 2025!
This year truly held so much more fic than I planned and all of it was a joy, but it's time to knuckle down and focus on my original stories. I hope to share my one Xedgin fic soon but otherwise, I hope you all will keep an eye out for updates on my author blog @lincolnchristie and come with me on that journey!
