#delete later #another journal entry 📝 for the void #i have not been sleeping well for the past 2 wks 😵‍💫 i always wake up like clockwork after 5-6 hrs which feels like not nearly enough #i feel like i've done everything there is to do (consistent exercise + consistent sleep times + earplugs + weighted blanket + no caffeine)#last night i took melatonin too but no... same problem staying asleep 😭#ahh whatever. i'm just frustrated that it has to be this way :(#anyways in an act of spite i reread like the 4 wips that have been sitting in my drafts from the past few weeks #i think something that will never cease to surprise me about writing is that more effort/time doesn't necessarily translate to better #results; i suppose that's the case with all kinds of art but #it does feel somewhat unintuitive. one of my fav professors in uni said to not dismiss those 'lightning in a bottle' moments (in art) as #blind luck... but to instead analyze the circumstances and iterate on recreating them. and i think one of my artist friends who i deeply #respect said something similar (wrt artistic rituals/setup). i have too many thoughts on writing and on my own creative processes and #weaknesses to fit into any number of tags here. :') that said...#*shakes ch2 draft* after everything i did and all the hours i spent WHY are you still so bad?!!! Throwback to the time I was 16 and watched Classic Who for the first time and was so upset over Mike's betrayal in Invasion of the Dinosaurs that I created a character called Captain Yates in the story I was writing and had him be working for the badguys but ended up having a redemption arc

#wren rambles #classic doctor who #mike yates #i cant remember what first name i gave him #but he was a fun character #he ended up basically adopting a kid and also the kid's nanny #like that story had ISSUES #but im still quite attached to that characters arc i think i had some fun things in there #he was fully on board with the badguys until he started meeting the baby sister of one of the main badguys #(who was tucked away in one corner of the base and basically ignored)#and he got attached to her and her caretaker #and ended up getting them out when the city was destoryed #they were his Kids #so he kinda became his own thing #but he was absolutely and 100% a result of me being sad about mike yates in doctor who #maybe i should try bring him back for a different story 🤔#if jamie can inspire a well known character why cant yates! i believe i can make it happen #when i learn how to WRITE AGAIN

have you watched the pjo show?

I saw the first 2 episodes when they came out at a watch party one of my friends threw, and as soon as they ended I realized I didn't particularly care to keep going. It wasn't like, outrageously bad by any means, I just don't think it gripped me enough to want to continue, and there were enough odd adaptational choices that I thought weakened the story that I lost interest. I might have tuned back in if the changes actually built to something interesting in the later episodes, but from everything I've seen it kinda seems like they just took the teeth out of the story, which was what I was worried about.

That being said, the cast seems really great and well suited to their roles, so like, if they improve the writing and pacing in the later seasons and stop sanding down all the rough edges, I might pick it back up. But otherwise, pass.

#im like famously bad at watching tv tho so me not wanting to continue is less dramatic than it probably sounds #i just don't really watch it casually anymore so I'll only follow along with shows that i really really like #i got another ask about the show a little while ago and i was like 'oh ill answer that once ive caught up' and then i never caught up so #sorry to whoever sent that i wasn't ignoring you i just never got to the ep you mentioned #like if I'm trying to be optimistic. given how quickly shows get canned if they're not immediately super popular. and given that this is a #disney product. its possible that once the show proves it can be commercially successful and the characters get older they might stop #playing it so safe and boring and bring some of the harder and more complicated elements back in. and like. that won't fix what they've #already fumbled but it will at least make the story better and more interesting. but idk how likely that is esp since #rick riordan seems totally on board with all the changes and it sounds like he doesn't really get why they diminish the story #like i feel like they're thinking too much about whether or not a change has a huge impact on the plot and not enough about how it #impacts the characters and the overall theme and vibe of the story. if that makes sense #like sure we still got from point A to point B in roughly the same way but that trip means something different for the characters now #and if you do that enough times you end up with a completely different result at the end even if we're technically in the same place #percy jackson show #asks

well back to the wotr character creation mines it is. if i haven't made a dedicated demon commander after this long i don't think i ever will but i wanna.... I've Gotta...

#i'd want them to be a kind-of foil to micaiah the same way astrai & rori are kind-of foils to each other #not Just in mythic path/alignment but in shared themes bits of aesthetic/vibe etc #but the thing is. my struggle is. if i try to intentionally do that with a character it sucks #if that's My Goal in making up a guy the result will not be a well-rounded guy. it just has to happen on its own as i develop characters #alongside each other.... does that make sense. idk. anyway #i should probably just start slapping shit on a pinterest board to see what sticks #it's not like i need a super defined idea to Start a playthrough anyway just a compelling enough base #anyway #i think too hard about these things
