I was looking more into the magazine mentioned in this post and I found something interesting.

One of the issues of the magazine has a section listing the various enemies that resemble major characters from throughout the series, such as Batamon and Galacta Knight. There's not really any new information in the Kirby and Meta Knight parts, just a list of enemies and a short description for each. But then...
Yes, the question of whether Ado and Adeleine are the same person rears its ugly head once again. The main text of the section still isn't anything noteworthy, just saying that both characters share a lot of similarities. The real juicy bit comes from the caption under the picture.
This says, "Could it be that [Adeleine] becomes Ado when she's controlled by Dark Matter!?"
Now, this is not the most logical theory. It is not the most sensible theory. It is almost certainly not what the original intent of the character was and it's coming from a source of extremely dubious authority. But man, I think this is hands-down the funniest answer to the Ado/Adeleine debacle there is.
So yeah, I'm ride-or-die for this. Ado is Adeleine's evil alter ego that comes out when she's possessed. You can tell she's messed-up because she dropped the last syllable of her name! Dear god! I'm expecting to see fanart, fanfics, fan-whatevers allll about this highly important piece of Kirby lore soon.
(Bonus thing: A different page of this same section expresses uncertainty as to whether Zero-Two is connected to Dark Matter. This is once again extremely funny and part of me wants it to be true. Imagine Kirby and the gang rolling up to Dark Star like "We'll fight Dark Matter as many times as it takes!" and Zero-Two's just like "woah woah woah do not lump me in with those guys")

AAAHHHH your headcanons are amazing !! Do you have more to tell us on the bullies? Maybe Trent, or Tom? I would love to hear about them too!!!

you're flatterin me lmao. alright lets see. this was supposed to be short. its not. youre gettin Trent Tom & Ethan. And i'm barely holding back from dumping abt Russell too bc goddamn everyone did him dirty. anyway enjoy.
Trent Northwick 🎬
The Basics:
he got laid exactly once and made it 3/4ths of his personality.
yeah he's got a bit of an ego, or so it seems. but he's arguably still one of the better folks on campus.
he's also an actor, part of the drama club, something he takes very very seriously.
wants to make it to hollywood someday. make it big. be adored.
and he is a Very good actor, believe it or not.
"i'm so hot" this, "I'm a star" that.
a begging to be believed.
tough crowd at bullworth, you know? not his fault nobody can recognize pure talent.
but at the end of the day, its not even a convincing enough performance to fool himself.
Expanded Lores:
his home life aint the greatest. not the Worst, but not good.
father aint in the picture, he had his grandmother for a moment, but she died, as old people tend to do, and he was on his own with his mother.
and his mother. hrms. after a certain point she just got too tired to really give a fuck about him or anything he did.
he helped out with finances by working part time. as they did struggle with like. food insecurity. keeping the lights on and the water running. all that jazz.
at least they had a house. in a slum, but still.
much like wade and co., his grades were ass, and he didnt feel like concussing himself on the field over Balls.
with not many options on his plate, he turned his gaze to his one passion and form of escapism: the big screen.
the man can memorize entire films in ~3 watches at most.
has the shittiest notes known to man but he's still good.
yes he was part of the drama club as mentioned before. and yes, he was romeo in that one play.
and yes, he got Really into the role. and Really into 'juliet.'
was he accosted by his buddies for taking a fonder interest in a nerd? also yes, but when pressed he'd laugh it off.
'it's not his fault there's prettyboys everywhere to those with eyes to see.'
their fling was cut short when earnest caught them in the library tangled together and he chastised cornelius for. well. 'getting sloppy' with one of their sworn enemies.
many such cases. but luckily for trent he caught the eye of another boy: kirby olsen, star of the field.
i can talk about those two for ages but i'll try to keep it brief here.
in short they were the only ones who took eachother seriously and recognized the effort they put into their respective passions.
they had their hangups still, most notably being kirby's own internalized homophobia, but clung to eachother like moss to a stump all the same.
trent actually told his bully boys about his relationship, top secret shit. but believe it or not that was chill.
long story short they made a blood oath they'd always have eachothers backs, cause as ive said before, they aint got much else.
that, and, well. it's not like they werent unfamiliar with such bonds anyway. between troy's questioning and certain other things, what happens in the trenches stays in the trenches.
the trenches being the various Ditches around, usually the school parking lot.
yeah none of these boys really care abt getting dirty they usually took cover in them.
this earned them the nickname 'gutterslime' from the preps.
funny story: trent once pulled a muskrat out of a particularly wet ditch. named it Bucky II and held it up for his friends to see.
the rat then bit him and ran away, of course.
final thing take these two songs that fit him. 1. 2. moving on.
Tom Gurney 🧿
(CW: abuse/stalking mentions)
The Basics:
alright this one might be a stretch but hear me out.
he doesnt live with his parents, just his crazy ass brother.
his paranoia? comes from them and alll their stunts.
that trauma and fear's wormed under his skin and ofc it reflects in like. most of his worldview.
hard to trust anything or anybody when your own parents turned out to be monsters ya know?
but he still tries to trust his friends.
that blood oath meant sumn to him.
if only they'd just listen to him a bit more sometimes.
Expanded Lores:
tom is what youd call legally emancipated. in other words he went thru the courts and got divorced from his own parents and doesnt need any guardian's permission to get a job enroll in school n shit etc etc etc.
this was hell.
for one they didnt want him out of their vise. for another they Damn sure didnt want him under the same roof as his disgrace of a brother, not after they sent him off to that boarding school.
yeah tom didnt grow up in bullworth and his brother kind of kidnapped him. but it was justified.
as such, he was kind of an oddball amongst the bullies, being one of the youngest, if not The youngest addition to their group.
this all went down his freshman year, two years prior to ingame events.
regardless they did accept him wholeheartedly. he's got his own attitude and Bite.
they even included him in the blood oath. which was Very significant to him.
practically solidified them as his Brothers. his new family. etc.
sidenote: his actual brother is the townie Gurney. his deal was he dropped out and just never went home because it sucked. he's got a few screws loose but he's a good guy. he's also like 20something.
anyway tom's a horror nut yeah. always was. likes junji ito, texas chainsaw massacre, that sort of thing.
he was actually in a creative writing club working out his own creepypasta-esque stories lmfao.
earned him the title of creep. sometimes got him smacked.
he Also likes radiohead but shhhh.
sigh. his parents Really didnt let him go easy.
in fact they refused to accept the court's orders.
came up, watched him, for a time.
he thought he'd just be experiencing sleep paralysis, seeing shadows from the window.
if only. no. they Wanted him back.
they got arrested thankfully. finally. gurney spoke of moving again but tom didn't want to leave his friends behind.
anyway. absolutely horrid upbringing aside, tom was a pretty decent guy, largely.
yeah he's been through a lot, but it toughened him up, or so he thinks. if nothing else it's hardened him somewhat.
bullworth was a shithole for many, but it was probably the only place he felt really free.
on a lighter note. damn this boy loved bmx tricks.
liked bikes just as much as the greasers really.
wasnt uncommon to see him at the park on the ramps practicing his stunts.
didnt wear protection nope who needed that.
thats for girls and he aint a girl. he's rawdogging life already.
you can tell how that went by his face alone.
usually gurney cooked bacon n eggs to help him feel better n shit.
fav food yaknow. poached especially. extra crispy bacon.
i got a song for him too dw. boink
Ethan Robinson 🥋
The Basics:
he's arguably one of the most put together of the bunch.
or at least, he knows what he believes in and he's sticking with it.
it's all self-empowerment to him. discipline and whatnot.
he's still a hooligan, but that's just the way of the world. to turn the other cheek, to not assert yourself? that's weakness.
they'll thank him for showing them the way, someday.
they'll know respect. they'll know strength.
they'll see.
Expanded Lores:
the home he comes from has suffered some hardships. but he didnt have a bad upbringing, per se.
loving parents, strong father, they only want to see him succeed.
some things just cant be helped. like the shithole neighborhood they're in.
but at least he met his lifelong friends there.
the boys pile up on his couch to watch cowboy bebop on a semifrequent basis. lol.
his place was a safe haven when trent's home wasnt available for movie night. and movie night was Important.
this boy has a massive collection of flicks, on that note.
most of which are either kung fu, samurai, or anime related.
yeah his obsession runs deep.
one might even call it a special interest.
he's got katanas on his bedroom walls and shit.
absolutely heartbroken he cant bring them on campus.
but he makes do with his fists, of course.
he was lucky enough to join an afterschool martial arts club in his elementary years. unfortunately it shut down sometime in middle school and he hadnt been able to find another since.
he doesnt remember all the moves, but he still has his Belts.
he also has a very fat orange cat named Buddha.
morning tradition is to rub his belly for luck every day.
not a hard task as that cat is frequently splayed out on his back.
or in somebody's lap. the boys frequently pass him around like a potato during movie night.
admittedly he really likes animals. feeds strays and whatnot.
volunteers at shelters. usually on weekends.
breaks his heart when he cant save em all.
anyway he does meditate and Often.
usually under an ice cold shower pretending its a waterfall.
sometimes perched precariously on the roof of some building.
how does he get up there? parkour.
yeah in his quest to be a ninja he picked up some tricks like Scaling Buildings and Long Jumps.
he's Very hard to knock off balance.
sometimes he can be seen just chilling on top of the boy's dorm when he wants some peace and quiet.
the others accompany him up there sometimes but usually they back out from fear lol.
tom's generally fine with it though. he's used to heights.
funny pair of alleycats they are.
anyway aside from his.... particular views on pushing folks around, and his attitude most of the time. he's a nice kid.
honestly he's got some of the best grades of the bullies lmfao.
music blast
that took me all night i hope u like it lmao. these boys. shakes my fist. their dynamics amuse me.
requests are still open but i may close them soon

Kirby: Meta Knight and the Monster of the Magic Stone - Chapter ☆1: The Ocean Planet Marino
The lobby of the battleship Halberd was filled with an unprecedented tension.
Captain Vul said gravely, looking around at the Meta-Knights.
"The next mission has been decided. It's a big job that requires a lot of effort. Everyone, please prepare yourself."
"Ha!"
The Meta-Knights cried out in unison with powerful voices.
"The mission location is Planet Marino. Eighty percent of its surface area is made up of water, making it an ocean planet."
An image of a blue star was projected onto a large screen.
Captain Vul continued with a stern look on his face.
"As you can see, it's a beautiful planet. The fishing industry is thriving, and it has long been known for its various seafood dishes. Particularly famous are dishes made with the precious "Marino crab" that can only be caught in Marino. Once you try the famous dishes such as Marino crab pasta, Marino crab pilaf, and Marino crab gratin, you'll be hooked! The capital, Marinoa City, is a gourmet city that is even called the "holy land of seafood"! Among the many restaurants that are famous throughout the galaxy, there is a famous restaurant that won the All-Galaxy Seafood Contest...!"
Captain Vul began to get excited and his voice got louder and louder.
Meta Knight stopped him quietly.
"Captain Vul, we’re not on a sightseeing trip. Tell us the mission."
"S-Sorry! The mission on Planet Marino is to exterminate monsters."
Questioned Axe Knight.
"A sea monster, you mean?"
"Yes. Our target is an octopus named King Flotzo."
"Huh? An octopus?"
The Meta-Knights murmured. The tension was relieved and they erupted into laughter.
Javelin Knight said with a grin.
"When you said it was going to be a difficult job, I wondered what kind of formidable opponent we would be facing. I never imagined I’d have to get rid of an octopus!"
Trident Knight said, stifling a laugh as well.
"Is it a particularly vicious octopus? I can’t imagine it."
Mace Knight said, getting carried away.
"I’ll destroy you with one hit of my mace! I’ll make you into sashimi!"
"No, no, octopus tastes the best when you put it into oden."
"I also like stir-fry with butter and soy sauce! The aroma of the burnt soy sauce clings onto the octopus…"
Meta Knight announced in a cool voice to the excited Meta-Knights.
"King Flotzo is not as easy of an opponent as you may think. Many adventurers have tried to defeat him, but not a single one has succeeded."

The Meta-Knights were quiet.
Captain Vul said.
"It is said that King Flotzo wears a ship anchor as a crown. Its appearance is truly worthy of being called the King of the Sea."
"A ship’s anchor… on its crown!?"
The Meta-Knights looked at each other.
"How big is that octopus!"
"Not only is he strong, but he’s also smart and dexterous. Making a crown as if it were a normal thing is not something an octopus can do."
Meta Knight said.
"Exactly. He’s a tricky monster. Plus, we’re not used to fighting sea monsters. It’ll be a tough task, but by no means is it impossible."
Meta Knight’s voice was lively. The stronger the enemy, the more his fighting spirit burns. That’s Meta Knight.
His subordinates also cheered with joy.
"Of course! There’s no enemy we can’t defeat!"
"Just wait, King Flotzo! I’ll make you into a special oden ingredient!"
"I prefer sashimi after all!"
Captain Vul said, looking around at the Meta-Knights with satisfaction.
"We are now heading to Planet Marino. We will be gathering information at the capital city of Marinoa and then come up with a plan to defeat him."
"Ha!"
The Meta-Knights got excited and straightened up.
Well, a few days later.
Meta Knight and his men arrive in Marinoa City, the capital of the planet Marino. It is a beautiful port city facing a clear ocean.
Captain Vul looked around nervously and said.
"There are a lot of seafood restaurants lined up! But as the saying goes, you can’t fight on an empty stomach, so let’s fill our stomachs first. Let’s have some of their famous Marino crab dishes…"
The Meta-Knights were excited as well.
"I want to eat crab pilaf."
"The crab soup is also delicious."
"With so many restaurants lined up, it’s hard to decide."
The group was walking down the main street.
A silly voice came from behind them.
"Wow, I can smell the ocean! It smells so delicious!"
"We’re grilling shellfish on the beach. Wow, this is amazing!"
Meta Knight and the others came to a sudden halt.
Axe Knight said, confused.
"Eh!? T-that voice, it can’t be…"
The Meta-Knights shouted in unison.
"Kirby and King Dedede!? Why are they here!?"
"You were following us? What for…?"
"Calm down, everyone."
Meta Knight said to his subordinates in a hushed tone.
But he himself was a little nervous. Before the big mission, he had to face the two peoples whose voices he least wanted to hear.
"I don’t know why they’re here, but in any case, we shouldn’t get involved with them. We’ll ignore them."
"Ha!"
"Let’s hide out in a restaurant somewhere."
The group lowered their heads and quickened their pace.
However.
"Ahh, Meta Knight!? It’s Meta Knight!!"
"Hmm? Are you taking your subordinates on a sightseeing trip? What carefree guys."
Immediately, they were found.
The group tried to run, but it was too late.
Kirby happily rushed over and clung to Meta Knight and the others.
"Wow, what a coincidence! I can’t believe I’m meeting Meta Knight and the other in a place like this! Did you guys come to eat the crab dishes too?"
"Kirby, please let us go. We’re not here to play like you guys. We have an important mission…"
"Hmm? We do too! We’re helping out Chef Kawasaki!"
True to his word, the Waddle Dee Squad and Chef Kawasaki came running after Kirby and King Dedede.
Chef Kawasaki yelled breathlessly.
"Meta Knight!? What’s going on with everyone here? Are you all on a journey to train as a chef?"
"Culinary training…? What do you mean?"
Meta Knight asked, giving up on trying to escape.
Chef Kawasaki replied amiably.
"I’ve always been interested in Planet Marino. After all, it’s a planet that’s known as the mecca for seafood cuisine! Check this out!"
Chef Kawasaki opened a guidebook and handed it to him.

"The guidebook includes delicious looking dishes such as crab pilaf, crab pasta, and crab gratin."
There are many photographs scattered throughout the book.
Captain Vul shouted without thinking.
"Oh, this is the famous Marino crab dish! It is said to have won the All-Galaxy Seafood Contest..!"
"Yes, that's right. I was looking at this guidebook and couldn't stand it anymore. I decided to go on a journey to learn seafood cuisine. But then I thought, 'It would be boring to go alone, so I’ll invite Kirby and King Dedede too…'"
"It seems unlikely."
Meta Knight said in a harsh tone.
"Practice is a solitary thing. It's not something you should invite someone to do."
"Cooking is different from your training, Meta Knight. Cooking should be fun."
"Yes!"
Kirby yelled happily.
"I came here to help Chef Kawasaki with his training. I'm going to learn how to make crab fried rice, crab gratin, crab rice balls, crab dumplings, and crab parfait!"
Kirby looks like he's about to drool.
King Dedede said, pushing Kirby away.
"Me too! I want to conquer all the restaurants on this planet and bring the recipe to the best crab back to Dreamland!"
However, at the King's feet, Bandana Waddle Dee said worriedly.
"But, your Majesty, I can't find any restaurants that serve Marino crab on the menu…"
"What? There's no way that's true. It's the most famous dish on this planet."
"That's right, but..."
Meanwhile, the Meta Knights were quickly checking out the surrounding restaurants.
Each restaurant has a menu with pictures and samples of the dishes lined up in front of the store.
The menu was full of delicious looking dishes such as fish meunière, fried shrimp, crab soup, etc., but there was no dish made with the local specialty, Marino crab anywhere to be found.
Captain Vul whispered to Meta Knight.
"Something strange seems to be happening. Could it be because of King Flotzo...?"
"Hmm. We’ll need to look into that."
Meta Knight nodded and turned to Kirby and King Dedede, speaking curtly.
"We are leaving for an important mission. We will leave you here."
"Huh? What's 'ninmu'?"
Ninmu means 'mission.'
"I have nothing to tell you. Farewell."
Meta Knight turned and started walking away, with Captain Vul and the Meta-Knights following behind him.
King Dedede muttered to himself.
"What a nasty guy! I went out of my way to talk to him."
Kirby said, not seeming to mind in the slightest.
"Even Meta Knight would want to eat with us if he was hungry. So let's do our own thing!"
"Yes! First off, let's go to the beach! Let's go!"
Kirby and King Dedede started running in the opposite direction from Meta Knight and the others.
"Oh, wait, King! Kirby!"
"I want to study the cuisine of the restaurant that won the All-Galaxy Seafood Contest, not the food stalls... Hey, wait a minute!"
The Waddle Dee Squad and Chef Kawasaki hurriedly chased after Kirby and the King.

Zoru + Ball: Sport Zoru! ⚾
What's the next ability I want to combine Zoru with? One of my personal least favorites, PFFFT. But when you mix Ball with Zoru, he'll make full use of Kirby's roundness to become an athlete and gain a varied repertoire of moves with him.
Sport Zoru! A heck of an all-rounder player of all kinds!
The Ball ability is, personally, waaay too finicky and difficult to control in the games, but I still love the concept of just making Kirby a ball (and especially in the spin-off games). I've had this idea of giving Zoru the sporty feel for a while now!
This time around, I wanted this ability's design to have a slightly zanier feel, like how the abilities in Kirby 64 were sometimes so strange and had that "that looks wild" feeling. The main thing you'll notice is the baseball pattern on his red belly and the sports gear he dawns. But you'll also notice that his tail has become a sort of golf bag, to hold his sports tools!
His moveset takes a more ranged approach, where Zoru performs various maneuvers, and Kirby is the sports ball! Kirby will be launched in many different manners towards enemies, as seen with moves like Rally and its follow-ups.
Zoru can also Volley his enemies with his tail, tumbling enemies above him at an arc. Once he does, he can charge up for a big hit.
And boy, does he have a gnarly swing and quite the skillset.
As a bonus for reading this far in, here's one of the timelapses because I actually remembered to use that functionality in Clip Studio this time!

characters confirmed to be related to the dark matter clan in kirby canon: -dark matter (the true final boss of kirby's dream land 2; by definition) -gooey (as confirmed by the manual for kirby's dream land 3) -dark matter cloud (this also includes the three named blobs that split off from it; from kirby's dream land 3 and kirby 64, confirmed by the english website for dream land 3(?), the english manual for kirby 64, and heavily implied by the japanese 20th anniversary encyclopedia; also yes that is its actual name on wikirby) -zero (while wikirby does not say where this has been confirmed, the fandom kirby wiki (ew) does say this has been confirmed in the aforementioned 20th anniversary encyclopedia) -dark matter clone (from kirby: planet robobot; by definition)
characters not confirmed to be related to the dark matter clan in kirby canon (a lot):
-n-z (an enemy from kirby 64 that only appears on the planets dark matter is known to have visited, and on dark star itself, but it's not confirmation of a relationship; it's possible that they're related but not enough information is available to come to that conclusion) -miracle matter (it's a reasonable assumption, but there has been no official confirmation yet) -0² (this is also a reasonable assumption, but hal apparently hasn't even confirmed whether 0² and zero are related, and the bad boss brothers celebration artwork from kirby star allies, which only shows one version of any other given character, shows both zero and 0² simultaneously) -dark mind (his second form does resemble dark matter and zero, but again no official confirmation has been given) -dark nebula (the aforementioned 20th anniversary encyclopedia does not confirm dark nebula is related to dark matter, but does kinda say "oooh they might be related" so while it's possible they're related it's not, like, outright confirmed) -dark crafter (a lot of these are suspected to be related because they look similar and dark crafter is no exception to this but again there is no outright confirmation) -void termina (kirby star allies is chock full of references so there's no surprise that the final boss would reference the dark matter clan in various ways, but it has not been confirmed; while the japanese, chinese, and korean versions of star allies do mention that void termina is "made up of dark matter" (quoting wikirby here), they also say that its made of "heart, soul, and dream matter"... whatever that means) -hyness, his ancestors, and the jambastion religion (lumping these all together since in the japanese version of kirby star allies, hyness states that he and his clan worship dark matter, the substance, rather than dark matter, the character / clan / species; i'm also using this as evidence that the "dark matter" referred to in void termina's description is the substance) -kirby (i think this stems from people drawing a line from kirby to void termina, and then from void termina to dark matter, but not only does void termina not have a confirmed relationship with dark matter, void termina also does not have a confirmed relationship with kirby according to shinya kumazaki, which is its own separate discussion) -waddle doo (dark matter possessed a waddle dee one (1) time and turned it into a waddle doo, i don't think that's enough evidence however, also there's been no official confirmation as far as i'm aware but the wikirby page for waddle doo doesn't seem to mention anything one way or the other so it's possible that a statement from hal exists and i simply don't know where to find it)
note that these characters are not necessarily deconfirmed, but rather are simply unconfirmed. it's possible that these characters could have some sort of relationship with dark matter, but hal has never made that official, and the best we can do for any of them is speculate. even hyness, who is clarified to be talking about the substance dark matter, could still have a relationship with dark matter anyway if void termina is confirmed to be related to dark matter
sources: -wikirby page for dark matter, specifically the section regarding its relatives (https://wikirby.com/wiki/Dark_Matter#Relatives_of_Dark_Matter) -wikirby page for a list of misconceptions within the kirby community, specifically the sections regarding dark matter and void termina (https://wikirby.com/wiki/List_of_misconceptions) -english manual for kirby's dream land 3, specifically page 9 (https://archive.org/details/kirby-s-dream-land-3-1997-nintendo/page/n5/mode/2up) -the fandom kirby wiki; don't use it, it's worse than wikirby, but for the sake of academic integrity (if you can call this academic, anyway), here's the one page i sourced: https://kirby.fandom.com/wiki/Zero -the wikirby pages for all characters listed in the "confirmed" section except for zero for some reason -english manual for kirby 64 (https://m1.nintendo.net/docvc/NUS/USA/NK4E/NK4E_E.pdf) -english website for kirby's dream land 3, whatever that means, indirectly via wikirby -20th anniversary kirby pupupu encyclopedia, indirectly via wikirby (i cannot read japanese; if i could, i would read and source it directly) -the japanese, chinese, and korean versions of kirby star allies, indirectly via wikirby (i can't read chinese or korean either) -shinya kumazaki, indirectly via wikirby

Ask Comp 17/7
@shelbybunny asked: a note most people havent noticed from my observations: kanaya tied eridans cape around her stomach wound
Kanaya absorbs the fashion sense of anyone she slays. She's basically a goth Kirby.
@deshah asked: I have caught up on reading your live blog just as you reach one of my favorite action sequences! Kanaya is brilliant and I am so excited that you are reaching this point in her story. On an Aradia note: I think that you should listen to '(kind of) still alive' and 'Almost There' Aradia version (in that order) because feels. You have motivated me to listen to homestuck parodies again. Not to mention revisit my (many, many) homestuck crossovers… Thanks for the liveblog, it is so much fun! Also i saw your recommendation list was missing hemostuck which is just such a shame. I think it constitutes spoilers? Although it is very AU. That one is by roachpatrol and urbanAnchorite on ao3. Also! Space Bro by JumpingJackFlash, also on ao3 (definitely spoilers) there's even a song about that one! I hope these are okay to send? I'm not 100% on the etiquette. Anonymous asked: howdy wert! dunno if you answer stuff on this blog still but I figured it wasn't fit for the main one -- in your long break, did you check out any of the various media recommended to you? :0 (<- totally didn't recommend something and definitely isn't now wondering if you read/liked it, unlikely as it may be with the long list of recs)
I've added them all to the list! Feel free to recommend anything else, too - but I probably won't get to any Homestuck fics for a long time, since they're a bit of a spoiler minefield.
So far, the only recommendation I've followed up on was Hollow Knight - and I'm glad I did. I've played it, like, three times now. If your own recommendation isn't a Homestuck fic, let me know!
@segfaultvicta asked: i just found your liveblog and I've been doing nothing but reading it since. i have no idea if it's complete, if it's stalled out somewhere, or if it's ongoing, or when it started; i have deliberately kept all of this information from myself, i just hope that regardless of anything else your asks are still on so i can tell you how absolutely fucking MAGNIFICENT your analysis is and how much of a joy it's been to read. bravo. <3 @segfaultvicta asked: there are so many things that you're correctly understanding, or at least digging into at the right level and with the correct approach vector, that it took me MONTHS of puzzling out and later information to grok, and i'm good at this kind of nonsense. it's WILDLY impressive even if/when you are barking up the wrong cosmic apple tree. this liveblog continues to be an utter delight.
Hell yeah. Welcome to the show!
It's a great motivator, knowing that there are people having this much fun with the blog. Sometimes, on quiet days, I'll notice my notification counter is ticking up by a couple of notes a minute or so - and 90% of the time, that means someone's just discovered the blog, and they're binging the whole thing.
That's so cool, I don't even have the words! I look up to binge-worthy livebloggers!
Anonymous asked: Vriska really do be the kinda person who's like "I love a woman who can kick my ass." She probably only saw Kanaya as a potential matesprit after she proved herself powerful. Before that, she likely didn't view her as one because she saw her more like a harmless 'mcfussy fangs'.
You could have had it all, Vriska - if you'd only turned to look at her.
Truly, you are your own worst enemy.
Anonymous asked: I'd like to just adress the fact that Eridan, the troll who had 'aspirations' of killing every troll below him on the hemospectrum, only permanently killed the SINGLE troll that was above him on the hemospectrum. Good job, Ampora! ~DJ @manorinthewoods asked: It's comical how pathetic Eridan was. He seems to have power but it's always immensely fragile. Pathetic in life, pathetic in death, pathetic in ancestry. It's no surprise that his final step in the dance is to be sawed in two to prove Kanaya means business. ~LOSS (20/6/24)
Dude took more Ls than a Countdown contestant. Seeing Feferi confront him in the Bubbles is sure to be cathartic, and I, for one, cannot wait.
@manorinthewoods asked: Who the hek coded Trollian. ~LOSS (2/7/24)
That's Sahlee's endgame, naturally. My fic will be as self-fulfilling as Homestuck proper.
@bladekindeyewear asked: Quote you: "You Want An Auspistice? Then I’ll Give Your Legs Some Space From Your FUCKING TORSO" Funnily enough, on Andrew Hussie's ask blog back then, he ALSO jokingly described this well-justified murder as Kanaya auspisticizing between Eridan's upper and lower torso, after forcibly auspisticizing her way through the rest of the showdown members. "Putting Space between them" is a nice added pun of you though!
Hehe. I didn't originally intend to make an Aspect pun, but I noticed after I'd written it, and decided to leave it in.
Anonymous asked: "If the Bubbles do preserve doomed souls, then we might also run into […] the Jade he couldn’t save. That’s a pair of ghosts I’d be very interested to meet." Are we sure a doomed Incipisphere would have resulted in a doomed timeline on Earth for Jade to die in? Dave and Rose said as soon as John went off to die, they never heard from Jade OR THE TROLLS again. Karkat told John during ectobiology that Earth was a divorced temporal context from the kids' game outside of chat/timing convenience.
Yeah, I think there's a decent chance of that. It was weird that the stranded Future Jade never tried to contact her co-players, and one of the simplest answers was that she'd simply stopped existing. I live in hope, though!
@elkian asked: A really interesting thing I've noticed about Homestuck (lampshaded by Hussie's commentary) is how often the perspective switches away from fights, usually so smoothly or jokingly it's not obvious. I've heard the Hobbit/LotR books do something similar. We don't see Bro die, his opponent becomes unkillable by him and he's dead a few pages later. The Trolls' Black King, the Guardians' deaths, etc. It's a very interesting narrative choice. @elkian asked: belated followup to last ask ig - not sure what the given reason was but I think Hussie avoids showing us fights with foregone conclusions unless there's a good story reason. We know the trolls beat their BK before we even met all the trolls (and obscuring that fight lets Hussie pull fun things like the Bard of Rage reveal). Vriska vs Tavros was never in his favor, but it meant something for their character development so we saw it, etc.
Yeah, I really liked how this was done with Bro, specifically.
Cutting away from this confrontation highlighted how completely pointless it would be to depict it. We all know what happened here, and seeing it happen would give us no new information. Bro, like any mortal, was instantly one-tapped.
Besides - we saw the end of that fight.
It ended right here.
Anonymous asked: its funny how dd, the character associated with diamonds, is textually implied to be jack’s moirail ‘lousy dignitary, keeping your murderous tendencies in check’ Anonymous asked: I feel like you probably noticed this and just didn't say anything, but it's still so hilarious to me how clear it is that Andrew Hussie knew exactly what he was doing showing us the walkie-talkie scene just now with DD and his diamond card suit symbol "keeping [Jack's] murderous impulses in check"!
Damn, I actually didn't pick up on that. It's consistent with the rest of the Crew, though - Hearts is a romantic shipper, and Slick is all about hate. It seems CD is destined to become a mediator.
@mhafanlol2000 asked: What do you think LE looks like?
Occam's Razor would suggest he's a Felt creature - but since Jade would be 'terrified' by his true name, I suspect he's actually someone we've already heard of. After all, Jade would have no reason to be terrified of a name she doesn't recognize.

Update: I've built two nuclear reactors so far, for fusion and fission respectively. Between them, they produce a gargantuan amount of power, but that's only secondary to their main function - namely, antimatter production. Once I get that sorted out, we'll be, like, 5% of the way to the AllTheMods Star, which will finally allow me to make Creative Mode items.

thinking about that triple star head cannon post
if triple star is a legendary weapon like galaxia, why did they still allow daroach to use them when he was possessed?
Short version: when Daroach got possessed by Dark Nebula, Triple Star didn’t have enough control in that situation to stop themself from being used. Not that she’s the type to turn her back on her wielder even under those circumstances. Dark Nebula was also just a special case of being the exact type of being best able to take advantage of her strengths.
Long answer: given that MK still uses Galaxia even when he’s possessed or otherwise being influenced by an outside force, I imagine the connection formed between cursed* weapon and wielder essentially makes it so that if their wielder gets possessed or otherwise externally controlled, that actually extends to them as well. (*In my headcanon, curses are just a form of automatically self-perpetuating magic— not aren’t inherently bad or evil, even though the term has overall negative connotations. They’re used for basically anything that requires a spell or the like to be used repeatedly or indefinitely. Binding a soul to an object permanently requires cursing it, most forms of enchantment are technically curses, etc. Technically even Lor is cursed, but that’s a tangent and you probably get the idea by now.) This is actually one of the primary weaknesses of these weapons as a whole, as while they cannot be directly possessed or influenced, if they give their blessing to someone and then that person gets controlled, they can’t just retract the blessing without their wielder experiencing severe and potentially life-threatening consequences. They can try to hold back so that their manipulated wielder can’t do as much, but they can’t just turn themselves off in an emergency.
It’s exactly why Galaxia is so picky about who she will allow to wield her compared to Triple Star’s more lax nature. In many ways Galaxia is more powerful than Triple Star, so she is significantly more concerned about the possibility of being used for evil— she definitely functions a lot more like a classical cursed weapon than Triple Star, just with a conscience. I’ve already explained it before but just to recap, Galaxia gets her power from soul magic, which she can then transfer to her wielder. It’s why in the Meta Knightmare modes you get access to various abilities via defeating enemies; MK is invoking her power after she gathers soul magic from his enemies/opponents. That is in addition to her less often used elemental capabilities she grants even without additional soul magic, though you can actually see some of them when you fight MK in Epic Yarn. Basically, she knows very well that she is a powerful soul-sapping sword who can be used to empower her wielder, so she refuses to even entertain the idea of being used by anyone who might use her for evil of their own accord.
Triple Star, on the other hand, derives her power from the bonds between others; in that regard she actually has a sort of built-in failsafe against possession, in that usually in cases of possession it’s a matter of one entity trying to overpower another rather than cooperate. Trying to wield her in that state renders her fairly ineffective because there is no bond to draw power from, only struggle. Under normal circumstances, Daroach makes for a perfect wielder because he’s the leader of a very close-knit group and generally doesn’t mean any harm, even if he’s a bit greedy and often on the wrong side of the law. He’s a criminal but he’s not a bad person, and he has respectable standards and a moral code that’s solid enough for them. (This same idea is also why Kirby is so good at using them; friendship is his whole thing, obviously.) Even if she could, abandoning Daroach would have been against her own nature.
As for why Dark Nebula specifically was able to make use of them, and was even able to make their magic more powerful(note the difference in power between Daroach and Dark Daroach): it relates to that headcanon post I made yesterday. When possessing someone, Nebula effectively becomes a hivemind of nonetheless distinct instances of himself who naturally tend to agree far more than they disagree. As far as Triple Star’s magic is concerned, that’s like having the backing of a group of people who are all on the same page and more or less perfectly in sync with each other. She does not directly control her own abilities, much like Galaxia doesn’t directly control hers, so since Nebula was operating through Daroach she couldn’t stop him from using her. Once he was forced out, of course, he immediately lost the ability to do anything with her because he failed the vibe check spectacularly and she was extremely pissed that some grubby little bastard of a Dark Matter would possess HER friend.
They still sometimes poke fun at him for the situation just because the two recognize that in spite of his potential Nebula was still ultimately a pathetic cringelet, but it doesn’t mean they would take the star lightly if they were to meet again. Triple Star would probably hold more of a grudge than Daroach, actually. Don’t mess with her friends.
#asks#rambling#my headcanons#watch as I do exactly what that funny post was talking about and don’t put this in main tags because I’m nervous#ready? here goes!

My Kirby Right Back at Ya OC named Bruno

Bruno, who has a traumatic memory from the past from his family, especially his father's, which influenced him as a person who gets angry and negative and also cruel, who can be brutally violent towards someone, someone who hurts others physically or mentally, but even then he can still be with a kind heart.
He came from the planet earth who escaped to other planets, after that time he went through a lot, he met one Waddle Dee who gave him a bandana so that he wouldn't get confused by the same waddle dees and called him Bandada Bee who became Bruno's faithful companion who would follow Bruno even if over time divided he still finds him. after that he met Sirica where he learned from her the events about the Star Warriors who fought against eNeMeE and their monsters, and also at that time Sirica taught Bruno and waddle dee to fight with different weapons.
After some time Bruno and Bandana Dee were attacked by a monster that belonged to eNeMee but Bruno was kidnapped and Bandada Dee split up for a while and was taken to eNeMeE's Fortress where he met eNeMeE himself and gave Bruno's ability that he can produce special energy from his body, and with that energy he has the ability to create yellow electricity that comes out of his body, mainly from his hand, with that electricity he can create some kind of orange matter, of different shapes, according to his imagination, which he mostly uses during battle and creates shields or imprisons the enemies of his matter, but when the energy goes through his body, it cuts off a piece of his body, when the energy has to get out, he accidentally injured himself while using his ability.
Adeleine (who also worked for Nightmare Enterprises as a scientist) helped him and designed special gloves so that when Bruno produces energy, it will go out without harming his body so that he can use his abilities after that, he was trained in fighting and using his skills. Which was trained by a demon-looking man with big horns, where he improved in fighting. After that one person named MOR who is the head of his company who manufactures weapons, spaceships, and robotic suits, just anything technological who served eNeMeE, who enslaved beings named Jacobites (a race known in their cultures as some of the best and most creative engineers in the galaxy), built the entire Fortress, he was impressed by Bruno's skills and after a long time he bought him so that Bruno could serve him for him and began to invest in him in a program called Project B01, which was handed over to various teams of Jacobites to researches and experiments on Bruno in the laboratory and designed the suit as armor for his protection and also to protect the plastic tanks and hoses inside the suit and also designs weapons and gadgets on the suit, her project from Bruno make it an unstoppable force, and the suit, weapons and gadgets in the suit and also the Jacobites create replacement fluids that are cloned from certain energy from Bruno, which can charge him and put extra on plastic tanks for resources that are hidden in parts of the suit behind his head, which will go to Bruno's hand through these hoses and from which he can create electricity from the body. But still outside of his suit he is just as vulnerable, if you destroy the protection of the parts of the suit and the inside of the suit which are his weaknesses, and you can kill him.
In the events where Kirby defeated eNeMeE and their group let the whole eNeMeE's Fortress explode and destroy for good and not all the workers and monsters were evacuated for time Bruno could only watch as his suit was turned off and he could not move in it he was taken to of a spaceship to another planet Jacobites that Mor owns and made the same planet a hundred whole factories, where he was further experimented and his suit and overall project was finished and worked for MOR as an eliminator who pursues his victims no matter where they run who has one task to eliminate what he gives him to order, but after each failure he will punish him with his with a whip or he will kill someone that Bruno cared about.

Shopping Cart's Best Games of 2024
as in games i played during 2024 not just games that came out in 2024. Given that I've started logging a lot more of my media experiences this year, games primarily, I thought it'd be fun to rank those which I enjoyed the most and give a little more thoughts and recommendations on them. I prioritized games I first played this year, or ones I played for the first time in a while. I skipped over some great games because of this, like Portal 2 and Kirby Super Star Ultra, but those still are really good too! So, if you want some gaming rec's based on what I played this year, give a read.

10 - Little Nightmares
Little Nightmares was easily able to wriggle its way into my favorites thanks to its style alone, with solid, simple 3D Platformer-feeling mechanics to support it to boot. Though the game is extremely linear and quite short, each part of it is very well designed and fleshed out with various props and hidden details. It was fun getting to use each part of the limited moveset together, as well as comb little side areas for secrets. In all honesty it could probably be ranked higher but I played it so late and haven't even gotten to the side story yet so that doesn't feel quite fair.
9 - Kirby's Adventure
Kirby is always one to provide a very solid, enjoyable experience, but special credit has to be given to his NES outing, which is so good that it’s likely the best game on the console. Kirby’s Adventure is such a colorful, varied and well-composed treat, featuring quite of a bit of content between its long level list, plethora of Copy Abilities to play with, and numerous level secrets. It’s really impressive comparing it to its nearest relative, Super Mario Bros. 3, which in my opinion it blows out of the water. It’s rife with charm and personality too, with all of its little animations and bonuses, special example going to the iconic Drawing Song seen every time on boot-up.
Kirby’s Adventure ain’t perfect granted, it’s doing so much on the NES that it is prone to slowdown quite a bit, and has a tendency to drop inputs, and has the older Kirby quirk of knocking your Ability out of Kirby every time he gets hit, especially irritating in levels where you need to carry an ability to solve a puzzle late in the stage. The 3DS Classics revision fixes a lot of the technical issues at least, so that’s one of the preferred ways to play it. Not sure if the SP version on Switch Online does that too but, I know it exists.
8 - Pokemon Crystal Legacy
I’ve always had a soft spot for the second generation of Pokemon, I think it’s got a really charming style and has a ton of impressive features for a dinky little Gameboy RPG, but always had a hard time coming back to it due to how limited or poorly planned out some things in it felt. I mean, half the new Pokemon either aren’t available for a majority of the game or are just plain unusable, and that makes the whole appeal of Pokemon (at least in my opinion), using a varied team and trying out new ‘mons on repeat playthroughs, a real struggle.
Crystal Legacy, meanwhile, is an excellent Quality of Life romhack that does a whole laundry list of things to improve the experience. It overhauls a bunch of encounter tables, adding Pokemon where they previously didn’t appear or adjusting percentages so rare encounters weren’t hair-pullingly uncommon. It adjusts a bunch of Base Stat Totals and movepools, making underpowered Pokemon more evenly capable. It even readjusted several of the enemy trainers to provide more of a steady challenge and throw a curveball for veterans like myself, surprising me and making me face roadblocks with a little more thought than before.
I was really impressed by everything Crystal Legacy changed with the base game, and would highly recommend it as the definitive way to replay Gen 2 Pokemon if you’re ever interested in going back to it.
7 - Half-Life
Clear to see why this one's a classic and a big landmark for First-Person Shooters, the first half of the game leaves an extremely strong impression and even today all of its little events and cinematics are entertaining and impressive to see. As someone not super savvy with FPS games it probably had even more of an impact, and felt pretty welcoming with how the difficulty and scale of enemies gently rose throughout the game. Stuff like the introduction of the soldiers with their squad tactics was quite the challenge early one while also being a big surprise compared to the usual alien mooks of the super-early game.
Unfortunately I didn't enjoy myself as much as the game progressed, with the later game levels (Surface Tension being a prime example in my mind) lacking that sort of entertaining factor the early segments had and primarily focusing on empty areas with little NPC interaction and frequent sources of damage. Being followed and barraged by a helicopter was not the best experience in this game. Surprisingly I didn't hate Xen as much as its reputation would imply, I kinda liked getting to use the Long Jump ability in low-grav environments. The Nihilanth was a dreadful final boss though I'll agree on that.
Overall it was pretty solid though and I can easily see why it's as highly regarded as it is. Eager to get to Half-Life 2 one day.

6 - Pizza Tower: The Noise Update
Pizza Tower was already a phenomenal game with incredibly creative gameplay, visuals, and music, and the Noise Update just goes ahead and adds a whole extra layer of wacky goodness on top of it. The Noise’s controls and mechanics are just similar enough to Peppino to not feel unwelcome while still offering a bunch of new ideas and possibilities to make things feel fresh, it’s really absurd what you can end up doing with the Noise sometimes and the speed you can accrue in parts where Peppino had to take it slower.
Not even to mention all the various little aesthetic differences where the Noise differs from Peppino, such as the various transformations (many of which have slightly different properties with the Noise compared to the base game), the new escape and handful of level music, and even a couple changes to some boss fights. It overall might not be as comprehensive of a new character campaign as something like Shovel Knight had, but it’s still a plethora of welcome changes that make the best game of 2023 even better.

5 - Team Fortress 2
I’ve always been a big fan of TF2, but haven’t really played it that frequently in recent years, not helped by the rampant bot crisis that had been afflicting the game in years prior. However, this year, Valve finally stepped up, wiped away almost all of the bots, and allowed TF2 to finally flourish as a chaotic and fun team shooter once again. It’s definitely my most played game of the year, and ate up a lot of my time in October during its annual Scream Fortress event. Valve didn’t even push a major content update or anything, but getting to experience the game without cheaters and with friends again really helped breathe life into it, and now I can’t help myself from coming back every couple days and continuing to fight in its many maps, and trying out new tricks and ideas I keep coming up with.
Solider and Engineer are my classic go-to’s, but I found myself having a lot of fun with Demoman and Scout this year, and really feeling my aim starting to improve, if still in small increments. I’m finally getting a concept of how to airblast and hit flare guns properly with Pyro, have found out that Heavy’s pretty fun to fall back on if the team’s got other roles filled, and pick up the role of team Medic quite a bit. There’s just so much to the game that it still hasn’t felt like it’s gotten stale, even after about six straight months of consistent playing this year.
4 - Psychopomp GOLD
This one came out of nowhere but I was really happy to get to experience it. Psychopomp GOLD reminds me of various other PS1-styled horror games like Lost in Vivo, and comes with a thick layer of character too. Some environments may be the typical dark, grungy hallways you’d expect, but others are colorfully lit and intricately designed in really appealing ways, not to mention the various weird creatures and monsters you meet that just have pleasant rambling conversations with you. It helps to paint a better picture of the main character when you realize this is the type of thing she’s dealing with and still treats without much surprise.
Exploring each of these environments and the weird things in them makes up most of the game’s charm, as well as making it further into this broken, twisted world and putting together the clues of what other horrible things might happen. It’s even got a few effective actual scares at points, despite mostly focusing its horror on tension throughout.
The game’s pretty light on story on the surface though, and its authentically-classic PS1 movement (ie. grid-based tank controls), both of which are sure to turn some people off. I’d say it’s still worth giving a shot, and the free original version of the game is still available, featuring the game’s first three, more grounded and realistically-styled levels. GOLD is quite the treat and comes with a bunch more bonus content to really flesh out the setting, so I do recommend it.
3 - Anthology of the Killer
Anthology of the Killer was a game I didn’t expect to like nearly as much as I did, but I was had a really good time with it and enjoyed nearly everything it put me through. For what’s effectively just a walking simulator-visual novel sort of combo, Anthology of the Killer provides a large handful of entertaining comedic-horror stories with a very charming style, referring to both its writing and visuals. The writing leans pretty heavily on the comedy half most of the time, but never quite loses its horror half, with its absurd aesthetics, low-lit environments, and strange sound design never letting the unease fully dissipate.
It really felt like going through some weird funhouse attraction and I enjoyed seeing every character go through their little plots and escapades. It was a very fun ride and I’d highly recommend at least trying out some of the individual episodes, available for free on GameJolt. The Anthology has its own pluses and it’s great experiencing them all back-to-back, I think.

2 - The Big Catch: Tacklebox
An incredibly impressive experience for what is basically a free demo for an upcoming project. There’s so much to do, and its open-ended format is really cool and helps add to the length by not funneling you through linear levels. Everything presentation-wise is superb, with fantastic sixth console generation visuals and excellent music. The basic controls and gameplay are especially tight and fluid too. I gotta give special mention to the propeller flowers that you can grapple onto and launch yourself in their direction, then immediately grapple back onto and rubber band yourself in the opposite direction with even more force. Several of the game’s challenges focusing on these more slick element were where the game shone its strongest.
There are some moments where the game wants you to be more precise that don’t work quite as well as it feels like it should (the massive temple area that you spend a long time climbing to the top of felt pretty unforgiving at times, though had frequent shortcuts to make up for it at least). The controls were a little strange to get used to as well, such as the specific ways to use the fishing rod or mechanics like wall running-to-jump combo, but most of the game was forgiving enough that it never got too irritating.
If you’re a 3D Platformer fan or nut for slick movement-focused platformers I highly recommend at least trying it out for a couple hours, and keeping and eye out for the full game’s release sometime in 2025.

1 - Corn Kidz 64
This one was such a pleasant surprise to me. I had heard a few scattered words of praise for Corn Kidz, but once I finally got to playing it myself I found a game that combined so many elements that appealed to me personally that I didn’t even think someone else would ever make a game like this. If only it had a grungy aquatic level then it would be truly perfect…
Corn Kidz 64 is a 3D Platformer taking clear cues from fifth gen consoles in both visual and gameplay styles, with its major inspirations seeming to draw from Banjo-Kazooie and Spyro the Dragon. It also has a delightful late 90s-early 2000s gothic-Hot Topic aesthetic that warms my heart even more. I didn’t even know I wanted a Banjo-Kazooie spiritual successor to look like Invader Zim fanart but Corn Kidz delivered alright. The music is super on-point too, not sounding like Kirkhope’s stuff but other synthy and grungy tunes of the era. The character animations are pretty fluid and appealing as well, using what looks like a lot of vertex-based stuff you'd see in Spyro or Crash Bandicoot.
The gameplay itself follows the usual collectathon form, with a couple densely packed levels to explore for goodies and secrets, with an agile moveset focused on climbing and wall-jumping to really boost that feeling to scouring over every surface to find collectibles. Granted, the actual gameplay is where I’ve seen Corn Kidz fall apart for some people, and I can see why, there’s no double-jump or mid-air recovery tool, which is pretty unheard of for 3D platformers (the air dash you are provided is very situational and sometimes required for platforming challenges, so isn’t usable as a recovery tool). There’s no Totals page to keep track of all your collectibles, irritating for potential completionists, and there are a few moments in the level design that can lead to repeated backtracking (the church and graveyard segments of Wolloh’s Hollow is a large example that even caught me up in my first playthrough).
While these flaws can be pretty irksome, I was able to look past them by how appealing the game was in every other aspect, and was able to find a comfortable understanding of the gameplay not long after starting. The final challenges of the game are pretty brutal, especially the long and checkpoint-free bonus level, but using everything the game had taught me in a tightly packed back-to-back gauntlet had its charms. Even better, Corn Kidz 64 emulated the weird and mysterious vibes of Banjo-Kazooie’s most hidden secrets with its Void Screw collectibles. These are bonus collectibles hidden in extremely obscure spots used to unlock totally hidden rewards tucked away in what feels like an unused area of the game, complete with access to (what is presumably) the game's Dev Test Room. It so well captures the feeling that chasing Stop n Swop secrets had back and in the day and I was so happy to see a developer accurately recapture that feeling, with the bonus that there were secrets even beyond that that took months for anybody online to even find.
Corn Kidz 64 is the best game I played this year, almost entirely for biased, nostalgia-pandering reasons. I’m fully aware of the flaws it’s got (which can really turn off some people, I understand), and am always going to be just a smidgen disappointed with it (it’s only got TWO major areas…), but goddamn. It sure as hell does what it’s aiming to do really well. It’s a grungy gothic late 90s 3D platformer successor and that’s a really easy way to get into my heart.

Page 4 of 6, the rest can be seen here.
Honestly this is the part where I just get to have fun with the training montage and the reason of why I love Smash Bros like I do.
The gameplay IS fun even if I don't actually play online matches all that much (I'm not all that competitive, I play mostly solo or with friends exclusively), but to me Smash Bros is a toy box.
I love these universes and Smash Bros has introduced me to many more over the years, to me its an introduction to various things I could learn and play with, and even more fun to me its concocting how these series gel together and how you could use their elements as playthings to craft a story or a cohesive universe.
I explored this before with another massive comic I made, honestly kind of one this is a sequel to. Its "The Strongest Fighter".
To me, I am not interested at all in "who would beat who", I prefer to think of "Okay, if these two were to meet, how WOULD it go down?" or "If so was in this situation, what would they do?", the joke of the Strongest Fighter comic is not to actually decide who is the strongest in terms of made-up power levels, but rather an exploration of how these characters view and talk about one of their own in a context disguised as a poorly thought-out question.
A lot of people tend to miss this, sadly, even if Shulk points out "Anyone can beat up Kirby" rather blatantly at the end.
So, going back to Page 4, its also similarly an exploration of the question "how do you go on about getting strong in this context?".
With splatoon, there's not much other than "pick up the weapon and sink or swim, we ain't an helicopter parent, you figure it out". But when you introduce the idea of a MENTOR (specially one out of universe like Peach is) how would you go on about teaching something so abstract as getting good aim?
Its not so much that Orange needs training in weaponry at all, I did make it a point to show that she was Super Fresh with everything BUT the Chargers back on Page 1, but that her aiming skills with the Charger are so off that:
Speedy targets won't stay still (Joker just dodging out of the way)
Her shots are blantantly obvious (Samus just leaning her head to the side)
She's not using shooting at a range, so her aim is so off that she misses even in Super Flat World.
So the training montage is tackling these issues.
Study up and learn how the weapon actually works, as I said her first mistake was skipping up Sheldon's explanation, so the first thing Peach does is explain the basics of the weapon to Orange (if you notice, the billboard does show things like leading the shot as exemplified with the Rabbid, using bombs to flush out your enemies and the importance of things like Ink Saver). Basic stuff, but you do hit the books to learn your tool.
Learn in a safe envoirement that is somewhat predictable, and it is slow going (notice the timer of the Break the Targets), get used to shooting long-distance first and foremost, no matter how long it takes.
Then you introduce the erraticness (AKA: the ducks) and practice off that, Orange hit exactly half and Peach mentions as much. The dog may laugh, but its a start.
And finally, put it to the test. I specifically chose Sonic to be the target to be hit because he'd be the most erratic, fastest and would NOT allow himself to be hit that easily. Landing a headshot on Sonic has to be the hardest thing you could do.
I did mostly pick scenarios that would be funny, but I did want it to be a ramping up in getting good. Not just jumping from point A to point B and just skipping to "welp, you're a god at sniping now".
Anyway, the hidden jokes and references of this page:
I used to be a teacher (programming, if you're curious), so the panel of Inkling Girl going to school is reminiscent of my experiences as a teacher and a student. hence why Inkling Girl's set-up on the school resambles what I know rather than the desks you find on Garreg Mach. Such as taking special attention to draw the ever present ruler, using a square notebook for math, the pencil sharpener and erasers being the ones we use down here on México and the bag being a knock-off rather than an official product. Its just sort of the norm you see around here.
You may notice the random calendar on the Garreg Mach page on the top left. On the coloring process I decided to add to the joke of Inkling Girl going to school by imitating a Persona UI.
Originally the joke was to have it be styled after P5's, but the UI used wound up being Persona 3's instead. Not only is it topical thanks to Reload, but the reason I did it is that curiously -just as I was working on this panel- I hit this date on reload ( 8/10 ) and it just so happened that THIS is when you downright lose an entire week worth of days because Mitsuru decided to sign you up for summer classes without consulting you. Fitting for Inkling Girl sacrificing her own free time to learn and study.
Small thing, but if you actually read Orange's notebooks you may notice she's dividing by zero.
Just to show how much Inkling girl sucks at aiming, the break the targets timer is there to show how badly she's doing. Normally during Break the Targets you either get timed to your best time counting UP if you're doing it on the dedicated mode or counting DOWN from 2 minutes if you do it from Classic Mode. The timer instead reads 28:05.15, meaning that Peach had her do it at her own pace and its been nearly half an hour of just missing shots (since she's only been able to hit 1 target so far).
Also, the timer number may be random, but its actually Splatoon 1's release date. I love to hide significant numbers like that on my works. I forgot to mention it but Peach's player ID back on page 3 was also a release date.
And to add on to the cute factor, the platform they're standing on in Break the Targets is actually taken directly from Peach's stage. So she's lending her own target test for the practice.
Fun fact: on the Duck Hunt panel you can see the UI discussing how many ducks have been hit by Inkling Girl. Not easily apparent though is the blue bar below the ducks.
THAT is the minimum requirement. In the original Duck Hunt the UI for the duck tally would shift over to the left and be compared to that blue bar, if you didn't shoot enough ducks to go beyond where the bar was pointing at the game would end.
Essentially, Peach is asking for a bare minimum of 4 ducks to be hit, which Inkling Girl technically did as she managed 5, but she's still frustrated due to the dog's mockery.
Irregardless of how the montage was gonna go on the planning phase, I always wanted to have Sonic be the last test for Inkling's improvement because -once more- I like to think more in-character when writting down these scenarios.
Sonic is the fastest thing alive, he's capable of dodging whatever bullet or explosive eggman tends to throw at him (capable, not reliable, it depends on player input if he does so or not). So he'd be perfect for target practice, specially for something like Sniping.
Sonic's pride would NOT agree with being shot in the face, admittedly, but he could be talked into it if asked as both a challenge and a request. Peach wouldn't put anyone in danger and it is really just ink, so if its for the sake of helping others, Peach could reliably ask Sonic to do it and he'd at least take solace in helping someone else. Though he'd likely taunt and make it as hard as possible due to his ego.
To show that it was amicable and that Sonic agreed to it I had the two bits of Peach handling a tower and Sonic giving a thumbs up, to show that he was in on the plan.
I could have drawn Green Hill Zone again (in fact, the planning phase did had it AS Green Hill), but I instead opted to go with Seaside Hill as the background (kind of a mistake on my part since Ocean Palace is OBTUSE on its architecture), mostly because I wanted some scenery variety with Sonic, its not always gonna be on Green Hill Zone, you know.
The Loading screen that Inkling is having on her head while she realizes she passed the final test is from Sonic 06, which I shouldn't have to tell you that its infamous for its loading.
I originally wanted it to be Splatoon's loading icons, but those would have required animation since they're not visually understandable otherwise. So I just went with the Sonic theme and made it match.
The UI used for the last two panels are the stage clear screens for Splatoon 2 and Splatoon 1 respectively. Also, I didn't just copy-paste the assets from Splatoon 3 into the comic, every time you see the weapon icons like that its one of my recreation of those assets.

You know what? Let's test some patience and endurance. Number 3, tell Number 9 about the entire Kirby lore.
I really don't know anything about the lore of kirby!
Sayaka! Read it from here! This should still count.
*Alter Ego loads up a long paragraph, and Sayaka tries to read it as fast as possible.
Okay Mukuro, listen up!
L-Listening, ma'am!
So, Kirby is a cute pink puffball who lives in the peaceful Planet Popstar. His main job is to protect his home from various villains and threats, and he’s known for his incredible ability to inhale enemies and gain their powers! The lore begins with King Dedede, the self-proclaimed king of Dream Land. He often causes trouble for Kirby by stealing food or unleashing monsters, and Kirby always has to step in to stop him. But it’s not just King Dedede! There’s also Dark Matter, a dark entity that wants to consume Dream Land and plunge it into darkness. Kirby battles against Dark Matter in several games to save his home! In the first game, Kirby’s Dream Land, Kirby must save Dream Land from King Dedede, while in Kirby Super Star, you get to experience different adventures, like The Great Cave Offensive and Milky Way Wishes, where you can also control the powers you collect! Then there’s Meta Knight, who starts as an antagonist but becomes more of an ally. He’s mysterious and really cool! In Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land, you learn more about his past and his battles against the likes of Dark Mind, who’s also trying to conquer Dream Land. Speaking of adventures, Kirby has explored many worlds, including Dream Land, the Fountain of Dreams, and even space! Each game introduces new characters and powers, like Waddle Dee and the adorable animal friends who help Kirby along the way. There’s even a game where you can play as different characters alongside Kirby, like King Dedede and Meta Knight in Kirby: Star Allies. And then there are the copy abilities! Kirby can inhale enemies and take on their powers, like Sword, Fire, Ice, and even more unique ones like Ranger or Doctor! Each ability gives him new attacks and playstyles, allowing players to experiment with how they approach challenges. Not to forget, there are also games that delve into his backstory, like Kirby: Canvas Curse and Kirby’s Epic Yarn, which explore different art styles and gameplay mechanics. They show how creative and versatile the Kirby series can be! So, to sum it all up, Kirby is a lovable hero who battles various foes to keep his home safe. He’s not just a cute character; he represents hope, resilience, and the power of friendship! No matter how many times he’s knocked down, he always gets back up to protect those he cares about!
*GAAAAAAAAASSP!*
Were you seriously trying to say all of that in one breath?
Yeah...Emphasis on "try."

🎨, this time for Heiadoze!
Also, 🍱 for Nebby!
(🎨: What are your OC’s artistic skills? Are they a good artist or is art something that they struggle with?)
Heiadoze's dexterity isn't just bad, it is abysmal. She can just about type out sentences, but anything that requires a finer touch than that she struggles with. She is more of a writer anyway, any pictures she'd conjure using her magic instead projecting her thoughts onto a surface temporarily.
(🍱: If your OC had a dish themed around them at the Kirby Cafe, what would it be?)
I struggle with food related questions so I asked my friend @quanblovk for help and this is what it came up with!
For adult Nebby (aka Dark Necrula): A cocktail akin to a witch's brew with all sorts of different typical witch ingredients such as nightshade wine, edible glitter (to resemble her starry appearance), the blood of her enemies, Argos's tears, your tears, orange, pears and various other fruits she has turned people into, enough spice to aggravate tears which fall into your drink!!!
For the young version of Nebby: A Japanese gimmick curry plate where the curry is purple and black, with cute Galacta Knight, Dark Meta Knight and Nebby rice balls.

NextFest Demos General Review
I'm gonna write what I think of the demos I played this NextFest. Each title is a link to the Steam Page, be sure to grab yourself a demo if NextFest isn't over (June 10-17, 2024). If not, some of them might still have public demos, and some of them might be out by the time you read this!
NextFest has ended but demos still remain! Check them out or wishlist them if they’re in pre-release.
500 Caliber Contractz
Mario 64 but you have a high-caliber sniper rifle. It's honestly more often a movement tool than a weapon, and the movement tech in this game is quite interesting. I haven't gotten it quite down yet. I’ll write more about it later.
Aero GPX
Reminds me of Kirby Air Ride.
Airborne Empire
This game is seriously addictive. I meant to give it 30 minutes (around the minimum time I’ve been giving there games), and it took 3 hours. The whole conceit of the game is that you are building an airborne city. All sorts of things matter, such as the tilt (you can’t just pile it all onto one side), the lift (you need to add fans, which need to be manned by citizens, to allow for enough lift to build more stuff), and propulsion (buildings will slow you down, so you can build propellers and stuff to help you move faster), as well as food and water and coal) to keep everything running) and various building resources which you gather by deploying workers to deposits on the land using a hangar. Light is also important to stop accidents at night… there’s all the little systems you need to manage. I really love it. Usually in city builders I get really stressed about strategic placement and how me not leaving space next to that big useless rock turns out to be a mistake when I advance in the tech tree and learn the rock is actually the most useful and I trapped it under an underpass. Airborne Empires can have the “I didn’t know how big this building is so I didn’t leave enough space here” problem (I really wish I could preview buildings before I had the resources to build them), but it’s mostly fine. The tilt and lighting systems lead to making a spread-out base. You recruit more citizens by hiring them from settlements below, but you’ll have to feed them all, and at least where I am in the game, you can only gather food and water, not generate it.it’s visually very cute, all the people are birds, and the talking sounds are birdcalls. It’s pretty chill most of the time, even the occasional pirate attack isn’t that bad, especially if you get defense towers, since you can repair pretty quickly. I could play the game for days on end, honestly. I love it.
Akimbot
A very fun 3D platformer, reminds me of Ratchet & Clank, Crash Bandicoot, Skylanders, etc. The whole game looks really nice and stylized. I played with the Acid Sprayer and found it to be very fun. The voice acting and dialogue were a smidge lacking at times (Exe feels compelled to go "Tch" every time Shipset talks, and Shipset cannot shut up, but it didn't annoy me.) Overall I'm excited to see how the full game turns out!
Aloft
I didn’t find Aloft interesting. It’s not that I don’t like survival games, per se, it’s that my patience with survival games is really low. (300 hours of DST has changed me.) They need to be really interesting for me to stick, because if not, I sink untold hours into them getting progressively more and more annoyed. Aloft is probably someone’s cup of tea, but it ain’t mine. Sorry.
Beyond These Stars
Coming Soon!
Dice & Fold
A very fun roguelike deckbuilder game that's more about rolling dice than drawing cards. Enemies have slots you must fill to defeat them. Some enemies require exact rolls (say, a 3), and some just have numbers that have to be reduced (say, a 5, and you could put a 2 and a 3 in it to complete the slot). And there's more like doubles slots, slots that only accept odd or even numbers, etc. Your hero has an ability that you can earn by filling in the required slot on your hero card, there's all sorts of items and companions that alter the game in little ways... it's really fun and I'd love to play more of it in the future!
Dimhaven Enigmas
I love the graphics, just to get that out of the way. Pixilated textures are to die for, I’m a huge sucker for PSX or DS/3DS-style textures. It’s an interesting puzzle game, it’s pretty intriguing, but dangit if I’m not bad at puzzles, lmao. It’s tough! It really makes you work for the answer, I like that, but I can’t really write review of a completed demo because of it. Try it out!
Dustborn
It seemed… interesting. The graphics look good, the fight mechanics seem to have a bit of meat, but are sorta unseasoned. (They don’t feel like they flow that easily into each other but that might just be a personal skill issue.) The humor and writing isn’t really my cup of tea, it feels sorta like they’re always talking, and the lines in combat seem to overlap sometimes but I’m sure that’s unintended. Idk if I personally will be buying the full game, I’d rather wait for a review of the full game to see if I wanna buy it, but I don’t hate it.
Gladio Mori
Gladio Mori explores an interesting concept of a physics-based medieval weapon fighting game that oftentimes feels a bit like TABS if you were in complete control of a unit. It's definitely interesting. Right now there's only 3 weapons and no move editor, but I feel like the simple existence of a move editor means that in the future, there's untold levels of complexity to be found in this game. Has multiplayer!
Goblin Cleanup
It’s fun. There’s not much to say about it, as it’s just a simpler Viscera Cleanup Detail, but it’s cute, honestly. There’s some interesting quirks and level progression things, such as being able to light slimes on fire to be semi-infinite, faster mops, and you can do a lot with traps and stuff. Sorta simple as-is, unless I just missed the really cool stuff. (I haven’t played all of the demo yet, only the first two levels.)
I Am Your Beast
This game is amazing. The presentation of cutscenes is phenomenal; I really love the big bold letters and colored background. It's simple but it does its job. The voice acting is great, too. And the gameplay is just amazing. The amount of speed and precision you can move and attack with is on point. I'd suggest everyone
Kaiserpunk
Coming Soon!
KILL KNIGHT
Kill Knight has some wicked graphics. They look like they’re crackling with an unchained energy, power so great it corrodes the world. The gameplay is tough, I can barely survive a few waves, but the combat is promisingly meaty. Sword kills fuel the heavy weapon, and enemy drops can fuel the bfg thing (forgot its name). I’m not used to twin-stick shooters so I don’t know how much is innovative and interesting and how much is in every twin-stick shooter, but I certainly found the game really interesting. Really tough, but really interesting.
MACHI KORO With Everyone
Only the offline tutorial as of now, which is kinda annoying since i can't even try to run an offline hotseat game. But, it teaches Machi Koro pretty well. I like Machi Koro I like this game. It is nothing more or less than being just Machi Koro.
Metal Slug Tactics
Coming Soon!
Once Human
Open-World Survival Horror MMO. I’m only into survival horror, really, and was playing alone (I’m not that into MMOs except with friends). The systems seem okay, the combat is about what you would expect with heavy and light attacks and simple chains… the character creator is pretty good. (And I love myself a good character creator.) Not my cup of tea.
One Btn Bosses
It’s a bullet hell but you only need one button. Your “ship” moves on a ring outside the boss, and you use the button to change directions. The faster you’re moving (you gain more speed the longer you travel in a given direction), the faster you shoot. That’s about it for the systems (that I could see, at least. I haven’t beat it.) it’s fun, I’d recommend it to anyone. After all, you only need to press one button!
SCHiM
A very cute puzzle game where you play as the shadow of this one guy. You jump from shadow to shadow to navigate the levels. The art is beautiful accented neutrals, the music and sound design is really cute and musical, reminiscent of Untitled Goose Game. It’s really cute!
Screw Drivers
It’s Lego Technic as a racing game. To be completely honest, it just didn’t click well with me. The building aspect of it felt like every Lego Technic I’ve ever built, plus actual engineering. You need to connect the engine to the axel to the drive wheels, and set those to steerable… I know that’s simple, but it’s a bit too complicated for me to play that much. I’m a simple woman. Seemed fun to drive the cars, tho.
SWORN
It’s Hades but with Arthurian Legend. I don’t really know what more to say. It controls like Hades (well, I played Hades on the Switch, so maybe keybinds are different than I expect) it’s got similar systems of boons, in-level currency and cumulative secondary currencies, et cetera, et cetera. This isn’t a slight against it, I really like it! I can’t really speak for its writing since I can’t find much and I’m sure not all of it is in as of yet, but what I could find in-game was interesting. I don’t quite understand the world and how the Holy Grail and pagan deities and King Arthur all feed into why these monsters are about, but I’m assuming that’s elaborated on as you go through. I’d be willing to get the full game.
Tactical Breach Wizards
I adore this game. The graphics are really cute, the combat puzzles are really interesting and fun (I like this genre of games, I’m totally blanking on the name tho) and the writing… oh the writing. The writing is so good. The jokes are right up my alley, the story is really interesting, the world is the right amount of absurd that the characters can be deadpan about always having newt bones on their person that you can tell that it’s just as much of a half-joke in-universe as you’d expect. It’s really fun and I’m hoping to play the full game upon release.
Tavern Talk
I loved this game. The sound design is so peaceful and soothing, the writing I really like, there’s a lot of good jokes and just tender moments. I love Fable, the main other character in the game. They’re an anxious ranger who wants to get out into the world and go on adventures, they’re so cute. The other character, Caerlin, is nice too. The art is beautiful, I’m really invested in it now! I need to get the full game!
Tiny Glade
Cute game where you can do a bit of finely-controlled procedural generation of a little landscape, and take photos of it. I played game last NextFest called Dystopika that was like this but with a cyberpunk city. Tiny Glade is cute, simple, and allows you to make little houses and landscapes. It’s cute, I’m sure people will like it, but it just ain’t my genre.
