Look closely enough and you’ll find that Eric Johnson was always a Republican, or at least very susceptible to becoming one. Conservative “Democrats” are one bribe or one hurt feeling away from switching parties.
This highlights the significance of how much more important primaries are, because after the primaries are over, then it becomes an endless chorus of, “vote for the lesser evil” and “vote blue no matter who,” and we have more than enough bad examples of where that can lead to, right??
Tumblr media
Honestly, always vote for the most leftist, progressive candidate you can in the primary elections, before it comes down to voting for a Republican vs. Republican-lite in the general election.
I don’t think there are primary elections for mayoral races, but I still love the idea that if a candidate switches political parties (any time after the primaries, I’d suggest), then they should A) not be allowed to hold the office they ran for until they run + win as a member of their new party, B) pay heavy fines from their personal funds, C) they should be forced to resign, and D) the election should be re-done.
The Democratic Party needs to tighten up and make some rules regarding who can and cannot run as a Democrat.
Tumblr media
Literally months before SCOTUS overturned Roe v. Wade, Nancy Pelosi was backing a homophobic, anti-abortion, “Democratic” 🙄 candidate named Henry Cuellar, saying that a candidate’s stance on abortion wasn’t important. And Cuellar’s opponent was a young pro-abortion, pro-LGBTQ immigration attorney named Jessica Cisneros! And it was a relatively safe blue district, meaning that whichever Democrat the DNC backed, they were likely to win and a Republican hadn’t won that district in forever. AND before that, Pelosi and the DCCC threw their weight behind another openly homophobic “Democrat” named Dan Lipinski.
Tumblr media
Could you even imagine Mitch McConnell or Kevin McCarthy openly throwing their support behind a pro-abortion candidate who wanted gun control? No? So why tf does Democratic leadership constantly foist GOP-lite candidates onto the Democratic Party when other viable options exist?
Just a guess on my part, but if you want fewer anti-abortion laws getting passed, then you should probably back fewer anti-abortion candidates. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
“Vote blue no matter who” has bitten Democrats in the ass wayyy more than any converse slogan has bitten Republicans. Because Republicans actually vet their candidates and make sure that those candidates want the same deplorable things that their deplorable base wants.
And just for clarity, because I know how the internet works and how sycophants love twisting words: I am NOT saying don’t vote for Biden in 2024. I’m not even saying to support a third party candidate. I want Trump and all Republicans gone in the next few election cycles. What I am saying is, once the election is over and hopefully Trump/DeSantis have been vanquished, we need to seriously rework how the Democratic Party has been run. Losing Roe v. Wade is indicative of how poorly it’s been mismanaged.
Anyway, new laws can be made, so especially after the Supreme Court has ignored and undone so many standing legal precedents, I don’t wanna hear jack shit about “pie-in-the-sky” or “be realistic.”
This centrism bullshit ain’t working, yo.

Please for the love of God don’t let the lesson you learn from the Supreme Court abortion shit be “Vote Blue No Matter Who,” it’s this kind of thinking that got us here.
The Democrats are a part of the problem. They will constantly use the nominally more psychopathic Republicans as a reason to keep you corralled in bourgeoise elections that will never do anything for you. I promise donating your hard-earned money to a shiny new Democrat or voting really hard for Democrats is not going to stop or even slow this country’s descent into fascism, only socialism, real socialism can do that.

Nobody ever tells you how you should vote because they want what is best for you. Voting is an exercise of free will. Your vote matters. Your agency matters. Don't give up your agency just because someone told you to.

It’s now invaded my timeline again for the current election cycle so here’s fair warning that I’m severing ties with any and all accounts that push that Vote Blue No Matter Who shit, no questions asked.

This is a serious question and you dont have to answer if its not worth your time- this is coming from a place of pure curiosity and me being at a loss for what to do-
If biden isnt an option- What do we do about the upcoming election? Like do we not vote at all - or vote third party? I feel like this is a similar situation to 2016 were a non-vote is too close to a vote for trump. Thanks for any opinions youre willing to share.
Vote 3rd party, yes. I'm voting for Jasmine Sherman.
And not voting is a vote. It's a vote for a candidate you should've had. If Democrats lose it's their own fault, not yours. Their entire job is to earn votes and serve their country and constituents. If they can't even do the first part right that's not Your fault.
I gotta say it's bizarre to hear the same rhetoric behind "well they wouldn't have cheated if you did xyz more" come from the mouth of my peers & public officials about voting. And it's weirder that it works when millennials had such a hard self care/boundaries phase.
If Biden loses it's cuz he fucking sucks, not cuz your standards were too high. You get shitty people by lowering your standards. We wouldn't be in this situation if VBNMW wasn't co-opted and weaponized to choose the most right leaning Democrats possible every election. Nothing is gonna change if we keep doing that.
Don't let Dems gaslight you like a shitty ex.

Anyway, here’s your “vote blue no matter who” Democrat.
Tumblr media
Look, I am not saying don’t vote, but there are limits to electoral politics, and the GOP + SCOTUS have successfully gamed the system.
Joe Manchin, Kyrsten Sinema, Gene Green, Henry Cuellar, Jared Golden & Marie Gluesenkamp Perez are living proof that voting as progressively as possible in the primaries is probably far more important than being reduced to choosing between “the lesser of two evils” in the general election—and before anyone lies and regurgitates the centrist talking point that “the only way to win in the midwest is to be Republican-lite,” I remind you about what the Democratic Farmers-Labor Party just accomplished in Minnesota.

I'm curious, how does refusing to vote for Biden help? I've always held the opinion that until we fix the system voting for a third party isn't helpful. Is the refusal to vote for him just to pressure him into calling for a ceasefire or actually committing to his campaign promises? If so then why is that worth the risk of Trump getting re-elected where things will only get worse for everyone? Apologies if this came of as insincere as I am being serious and would like to better understand your position.
you're at least attempting to ask a question. I mean, you're still a cunt about it, but I'll play along.
basically, checking a single box once every four years does next to nothing. it doesn't matter who I vote for because I live in a very blue state that's voted dem for every election since Clinton. one singular additional green party vote won't lose dems the election or anything
what will change things is being involved in your community. sit in for a school board meeting. visit events at your local library. get involved in your city's local government. organize protests and marches. volunteer at a homeless shelter or kitchen. start a community garden. participate in boycotts and strikes. meet people in your community, and make it an actual community.
(I'd also recommend other things which tend to lead to more direct change, but I'd probably be put on a watch list).
I'm not saying "don't vote". in fact, do vote. but don't JUST vote.
I've lived through some of the most divided and two-sided elections in us history. and I'm still pretty young, so I've only voted for one presidential election so far. so forgive me if I seem a little bit jaded and fed up with the "vote blue no matter who" bullshit. because no matter who the president is, it won't make any real change. there'll still be genocide and famine and war and covid and bigotry. you can't just rely on Genocide Joe to magically fix everything for you if you ask him nicely enough.
you need to actually do something that matters a lot more than checking a box. and that's what the vbnmw crowd doesn't understand.
Tumblr media
anyway, if you didn't read any of that and just got mad and the meme making fun of y'all, then I'll leave you with this little logic puzzle:
if not voting for biden is basically giving a free vote to trump... then by that same logic, not voting for trump is basically giving a free vote to biden.

really enamored with vbnmw types lately saying "yeah biden is supporting genocide, but if you DONT vote for him, you'll still be supporting genocide!!" like hello you've effectively said there is no way to not support genocide. how has that not driven you insane (as it should).

I'll preface this by saying I'm still planning on - regrettably and with much gnashing of teeth - to vote for Biden come the 2024 election.
The news that Biden has been doing his behind the scenes work for peace efforts with Palestine are... a somewhat decent start at least. Israel needs to be slapped with a lot more than just pressure for peace talks, but relief for Palestinians is far more important. If Biden can pull this through, he may at least be deserving of not being called Genocide Joe. Though, those weapon shipments still have to be shut down for that to happen.
But it's also made me wonder something a bit. The folks who have been mocking those who talk about withholding their vote for Biden because of his perceived complicit, would they maintain the same vehement vote-blue-no-matter-who attitude if Biden openly flipped against Israel and threw himself behind calling out and combating their genocide against Palestine? Or would they suddenly find he's too "antisemetic" to vote for, regardless of the prospect of another Trump presidency? Really gotta wonder if the vbnmw crowd only take that stance because Biden is visibly centrist enough for their likes.
