I’m curious what the RO’s homes/bedrooms look like because I think it can tell a whole lot about someone 🤔
I'M GLAD YOU ASKED. I was actually ruminating over what Sev's room/apartment, in particular, would look like the other day.
Seven's room is very dark to me. Black walls, a lot of band posters plastered everywhere. It's a mess but an organized mess. Very much what a music enthusiast's room would look like in a 2000s teen movie lol. They've never grown out of the 'fanboy/fangirl' phase so they'd just have posters all over, they have a dresser of vintage records on one side and a mirror full of photo booth pictures and photos of their life tacked to it. Their bed is never made, mostly because Seven is always in bed when they're home. Seven has clothes strewn just about everywhere but they claim to know where everything is. A lot of ripped-out pages of scrapped out song lyrics on the floor. My imagination of Seven's songwriting process is a lot of pacing, a lot of humming. They get their best ideas while doing other stuff like cleaning and cooking. Outside of their room, their apartment is also messy with a lot of novels strewn about. Seven is very sentimental so every gift they've ever gotten is on display. Their bathroom is clean but messy; just a lot of hair products and makeup everywhere. Seven's "I just rolled out of bed" look is a stylistic choice lmao
I can imagine Sev being a very annoying neighbor to have since they always have music on and they're always singing. Seven has never actually cleaned their place quickly because of all the times they stop to have a mini concert in their living room. Seven is fun when they're alone lol
Orion's is expectantly clean and very minimalist. His room is barren, a plain black bed with a metal headboard. He always has incense burning and has an air purifier and a lot of tech. Everything is spotless and there's not anything out of place. Orion's place is a lot of dark furniture, a lot of leather, and a lot of gray and white in terms of looks. He has a large glass balcony that he likes to do work on in the mornings. I imagine him to have a large closet with all just suits on one side and just...straight up black clothes on the other. Orion isn't one to wear anything colorful. His neighbors love him and want to connect with him but Orion is not interested lol More than a few times he'd come home and just plops himself on his couch and falls asleep due to how tired he was.
Sebastian's home is large but sparsely decorated. He has a big TV to play his video games on and it's what you'd think is a stereotypical young guy's place: brown couch, some video game memorabilia, and some sports stuff. He has a huge gamer computer setup he built himself. He uses it for games and for coding and general data stuff. Sebastian likes displaying all of his goodies and stuff and he doesn't touch Maya's room, which is much like Seven's in that it's super cluttered with music stuff and posters. Sebastian's house is what a default sims house looks like: nothing stylish, just generic furniture.
Victoria and G's is luxurious that leans more to anything that they like they just toss it in there. Huuuuge with plushy colorful couches and overpriced designer furniture. OH! If anyone has seen Cara Delevigne's AD...that's what their house would look like. Just chaotic everywhere with so many knickknacks and things that it's like an assault on your every single sense. Funky wallpapers, leopard rugs. A lot of that, surprisingly, is G's doing. G was very set on designing their house. They're barely home and live mostly in hotels anyway so it doesn't really matter.
August's is pretty generic; gray walls, purple bed. They live with their family (August was supposed to live with a roommate but I changed it to better fit their route) and Clare tends to be the messy one. I would say August's room is half and half, it's pretty empty but what they do have takes up a lot of space like their drum set and their huge speakers. The house is big (August's parents are pretty well-off as politicians) and very Grecian in appearance. August doesn't have much knickknacks and things like Seven. They're pretty detached to sentimental things like that. It's a very standard room, the centerpiece definitely being their drums. They have a huge computer set up, though, like a gamer set up like Seb's but they don't use it for games lmao

Clockwork Angel
Tumblr media
Title: Clockwork Angel Author: Cassandra Clare Pages: 479 Genre: YA Fantasy Rating: ★★★★★
Synopsis:
Magic is dangerous - but love is more dangerous still. Discover the riveting first book in the #1 New York Times bestselling Infernal Devices Trilogy, prequel to the internationally bestselling Mortal Instruments series. When sixteen-year-old Tessa Gray crosses the ocean to find her brother, her destination is England, the time is the reign of Queen Victoria, and something terrifying is waiting for her in London's Downworld, where vampires, warlocks and other supernatural folk stalk the gaslit streets. Only the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the world of demons, keep order amidst the chaos. Kidnapped by the mysterious Dark Sisters, members of a secret organisation called The Pandemonium Club, Tessa soon learns that she herself is a Downworlder with a rare ability: the power to transform, at will, into another person. What's more, the Magister, the shadowy figure who runs the Club, will stop at nothing to claim Tessa's power for his own. Friendless and hunted, Tessa takes refuge with the Shadowhunters of the London Institute, who swear to find her brother if she will use her power to help him. She soon finds herself fascinated by - and torn between - two best friends: James, whose fragile beauty hides a deadly secret, and blue-eyed Will, whose caustic wit and volatile moods keep everyone in his life at arm's length... everyone, that is, but Tessa. As their search draws them deep into the heart of an arcane plot that threatens to destroy Shadowhunters, Tessa realises that she may need to choose between saving her brother and helping her new friends save the world... and that love may be the most dangerous magic of all.

"It's all right to love someone who doesn't love you back, as long as they're worth you loving them. As long as they deserve it."
My Thoughts:
I read this book after I had finished the Mortal Instruments series so I already had vague introductions to Jem and Tessa but that does not mean I fell in love with their characters and the story any less.
This book had everything from amazing plot to unique characters to amazing relationships. It was the perfect book for me and it is one that I keep reading over and over again.
I also loved the love triangle aspect in this. I could understand exactly where Tessa was coming from when she could not decide. Who could? On one hand you have Jem who is kind and sweet and he plays the violin and just seems very caring and calm, and then you have Will who is the polar opposite of Jem. Yes, he is kind and caring, but Will Herondale is also wild and hyper and has such a good sense of humour. I also love how their differences are portrayed physically: Will has dark brown, almost black hair, whereas Jem has silver hair. Small details like that just really add to the book in the best way.
I also loved the involvement of books in this. Tessa and Will are bookworms and their conversations about books, as well as Tessa's inner monologues about books, honestly made me fall in love with the book even more. I also loved the parallels to A Tale of Two Cities, which happened to be one of Tessa's and Will's favourite books.
I also loved how all the characters had their own personalities that were so unique and did not fit a blueprint whatsoever. Will with his determination to show everyone that demon pox is real, his extensive love of chocolate so much so that he thinks people that don't like it (Tessa) are monsters, and hates ducks because they are cannibals. Tessa with her obsession and fascination with books, her stubbornness, her magic, and her humour. And Jem with his music, his selflessness, and his addiction. They all fit together in the perfect puzzle.
The interactions that the main three characters had with each other just warmed my heart. First we have Will and Tessa. These two bonded over books and had such a deeply woven chemistry but it was clear from the start that their relationship would be complicated. Will admits he is in love with Tessa but he keeps pushing her away for reasons that will be found out over the series. I loved their bookish talks with each other as well as their tender little moments. I also loved the way that Clare managed to interweave literature and quotes into her books which made their moments even more special.
And next we have Tessa and my angel boy Jem. The moment they first meet is so simple and cute and just perfect for them. I also loved how they became friends and would just bond over the stupid things Will would do. Jem becomes a steady presence for Tessa throughout the course of the book and this slowly conquers Tessa's heart. They start off as strangers, then become friends and then at the end they feel more for each other than platonic affection. But another thing that I loved about their relationship is just how considerate Jem is. He knows that Will is in love with Tessa and so he never acts on the fact that he likes Tessa. He just holds back and lets them sort through whatever they need to sort through.
And finally we have Will and Jem. These two have one of the best relationship dynamics in this book. You can tell how much they love each other from the chemistry that just oozes from their interactions. And the way they just bounce off each other is so funny to see. I love how caring they are towards each other, and how relaxed Will is around Jem to the point he opens up about things, which is something he doesn't really do with anyone else. I love their friendship and I think they are one of the more perfect pairings for parabatai out of all the parabatai pairings in the Shadowhunter Chronicles.
I fall in love with this book more and more every time I read it, which I didn't think would be possible due to how many times I've read it. But it is a book that I will keep reading over and over again for the rest of my life.

2021 Books I'm Excited For The Most, A List In No Particular Order:
Contains spoilers
1. Girls of Fate and Fury by Natasha Ngan: After that ending on Girls of Storm and Shadow, how can you not be counting the seconds until you find out what happens? The original release date was going to be december this year, but it got pushed back :(
2. The Sequel to Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo: All I want from this book is for Darlington to be alive and safe. I will not settle for less.
3. Chain of Iron by Cassandra Clare: Jordelia's fake engagement? The gracelet? Lucie doing necromancy? Ariadne going to win Anna back? Cortana BURNS Cordelia's hands??? That summary got me HYPED UP.
4. A Court of Silver Flames by Sarah J Maas: Love or hate Nesta, she deserves her book so that she can develop and process her feelings and hopefully heal. Also, I've been wanting a book about the Ilyrian camps for SO! LONG!
5. She's Too Pretty to Burn by Wendy Heard: Dorian Gray but make it wlw? Sign me the fuck up.
6. The Nobleman's Guide to Scandal and Shipwreck by Mackenzie Lee: I haven't even finished reading book #2 but I already can't wait for book #3. Spoiled myself reading the summary but damn... how did we get there??
7. Realm Breaker by Victoria Aveyard: I know a lot of people didn't like Red Queen, butI really don't know why. I loved it. So I'm very excited to see what she comes up with next.
8. Castles in Their Bones by Laura Sebastian: After reading Ash Princess Laura Sebastian became a must read author for me. She's the best at writing the second books of trilogies (Lady Smoke was the perfect sequel and Ember Queen didn't disappoint) and I just love all of her ideas.
9. Small Favors by Erin A. Craig: Again, a new must read author for me. House of Salt and Sorrows was a 10/10 book for me and the summary for Small Favors made me want 2021 to get here NOW or I'm gonna lose my mind.

Young Adult Fantasy/Dystopia
This is probably the most successful genre of YA fiction. If there’s a dark-haired, brooding asshole male love interest, you know everyone’s gonna be all over it. There won’t be any Sarah J. Maas, Leigh Bardugo, or Cassandra Clare on here but maybe one day I’ll commit myself to their books (but it likely won’t happen anytime soon).
**Personal Favorites
Penryn & the End of Days Trilogy** by Susan Ee: This is my all time favorite Dystopian Fantasy trilogy ever. It is so underrated and I literally love it so much. Like if there’s one series on this list I want everyone to read it’s this one. Post apocalyptic world where angels descended to demolish the world and the main character makes a deal with a wingless fallen angel to go on a journey to save her sister and get back his wings. The yearning is A1 in this, and also Penryn is Asian and can kick ass.
The Blood of Stars Series** by Elizabeth Lim: Project Runway meets Mulan was the tagline and that convinced me so fast. It’s one of the more promising new series and it does a good job building a fictional Asian country. The author used to write Sailor Moon fanfic and that’s how I knew this was my type of book.
To Kill a Kingdom** by Alexandra Christo: Probably one of the best fantasy standalone books I’ve read (because almost all fantasy books are series). She’s a siren. He’s a siren killer. That’s a recipe for disaster and also one of the best enemies to lovers stories. It’s basically a better and more elevated Little Mermaid.
The Poppy War Trilogy by R.F. Kuang: I’ll admit that I haven’t actually read this yet but I KNOW it’s good. It’s just a big commitment with the length and the heartache that I know will come because this is not a happy story. It’s about war and politics and scheming and betrayal and it’s really dark. I need to read it, but I keep putting it off because I know it’ll take an emotional toll. This is not for the faint of heart, and it’s on this list cause it does have some fantastical elements like magic and dragons.
The Folk of the Air Trilogy** by Holly Black: Okay everyone that reads YA Fantasy has probably read this, so I won’t say too much. It’s one of the best enemies to lovers series I’ve read and it’s fascinating to read about an anti-heroine on the quest for power taking advantage of a useless prince. Both characters are hella compelling and I love how no one is truly good in this series because everyone has their own agenda.
The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer: Futuristic retellings of classic fairy tales with badass diverse characters taking the stage with amazing world building. If you haven’t read it yet, check it out.
Flame in the Mist Duology by Renee Ahdieh: Set in feudal Japan with Japanese mythology, samurai, crossdressing female warriors, secrets, lies AND just the right amount of sexiness. The sexual tension was to die for and for something that could be done so tackily, it really did portray the Japanese elements in a tasteful way that made sense to the story and weren’t just used for plot devices.
Warcross Duology by Marie Lu: Okay the male lead is hella morally gray and you definitely feel conflicted about him (without saying too much) but damn he’s hot. People complained about that big old plot twist but to be honest, I wasn’t that mad. Anyways the whole world basically plays this one AR video game and the female lead is a genius hacker that’s hired to find the glitch in the code of the game by competing in the big tournament. Super cool premise and diverse representation.
Red Queen Series by Victoria Aveyard: Regardless of what other people say, I really did enjoy this series. I liked Cal and Maven but Maven’s hella fucked up and Cal may be a little bratty but I was team Cal all the way. Maven is a fascinating character though. Mare’s pretty cool, too. Anyways, I would pick this over the Hunger Games (partly because Mockingjay was the biggest let down ever) if you like dystopia. People might think it’s overrated but I love flawed characters that gotta choose between love and power and obsession and peace.
Caraval Trilogy by Stephanie Garber: This one’s pretty decent if you’re looking for a carnival/circusy-y/magic themed fantasy book. It wasn’t a waste of time and while a lot of the characters did get annoying, I got so intrigued by the Prince of Hearts (Jacks) that I had to finish it. Jacks deserved so much better, and he could have had the greatest arc but the author butchered it. Definitely a what could have been series. There are better books on this list but I just wanted to shoutout Jacks.
Serpent & Dove by Shelby Mahurin: There’s A LOT of controversy around this book because of 1) the explicit sex scene that’s basically smut and 2) the characterizations and world building. I’m okay with the sex but I did agree that the dialogue was kinda ridiculous and there were a lot of problematic viewpoints. ANYWAYS, that won’t stop me from reading the second book probably. It’s not good but also I wanna know what happens. There are better books on this list.
