how easily these monsters die in the end
versus andrew who’s always been called a monster and is constantly vilified by the media, but who refuses to go down when his people are on the line, will fight tooth and nail and damn the consequences and the potential for harm against himself, just to make sure his people cannot die. he doesn’t go kicking or screaming because he doesn’t go at all, not until he breaks the bone of the person who sliced first
how easily these monsters die in the end
versus neil, a monster’s son, who wears it’s face and it’s mask but only to make sure other people’s monsters can’t bother them anymore. who goes down kicking and screaming because he’s not a monster, he just knows the intricate melody they sing, he knows how to warp it into his own hymn of protection. he knows what it means to be a monster, and yet he’d assume that shape without question if it means the true monsters will be laid to rest.
how easily these monsters die in the end
versus aaron, who killed a man without hesitation despite it putting his life and career in jeopardy, to kill the monster under his own brother’s bed (in his bed, rather). his brother, who’s monstrous reputation spread to him like rainwater down the leash they tied between them. aaron, whose own monster was his lifeline until one day she wasn’t there anymore and he had nowhere else to turn his anger except back at the person who stopped her.
how easily these monsters die in the end
versus kevin, who spent upwards of a decade locked in the monster’s closet, only let out to smile for the cameras. who grieved the boy behind the monster and yet refused to let others paint the boy’s face back over the monster’s real form after it was dead.
how easily these monsters die in the end
versus jean, whose monsters presented him to the world as a monster so they could hide their own sick cruelties behind him. behind the young boy they beat down until he wouldn’t argue otherwise. whose tongue was snipped, wings clipped and bones broken until all he could see in his reflection was a monster that was being given what it deserved. he knows true monsters, and yet he let’s them twist his image into one to keep the ones he cares for safe from them.
how easily these monsters die in the end
versus nicky, who was told his truth was monstrous in itself, who believed it strongly enough that he’d rather die than be that monster, but would rather die than be anything else either. who was ridiculed, exiled, and abused for it but he could never change it and he refused to change it when he realised it wasn’t him that was the monster, it was the ones that hurt him. no matter how much he loved them, he realised coveting the love of a monster only blows back on the people he truly loves, the people who truly love him.
how easily these monsters die in the end
versus jeremy, whose own mental struggles were turned against him to save face, whose family would rather blame him and his sexuality for his brother’s death rather than turn inwards and see how their emotional neglect could spark such a tragedy. they turned him into the monster that they tried to hide from the world, poured their own guilt into him until all he could do was choke it down as though it was his own.
just thinking of the so called ‘monsters’ of the series, and how weighted that word is, the word the neil himself chose, when you consider who has been called a monster in their life, and who the true monsters are. neil, part of a group known as the monsters, points his finger back to the real monsters, as a reminder of what true monstrosity is. cause the true monsters, well, they die so easily in the end, but our monsters? they face that title with acceptance if only it means they can hold out a little longer for the people they choose to help.

Wild how we know that Elizabeth Woodville was officially appointed to royal councils in her own right during her husband’s reign and fortified the Tower of London in preparation of a siege while 8-months pregnant and had forces gathering at Westminster “in the queen’s name” in 1483 – only for NONE of these things to be even included, let alone explored, in the vast majority of scholarship and historical novels involving her.
#lol I don't remember writing this - I found it when I was searching for something else in my drafts. But it's 100% true so I had to post it.#elizabeth woodville#my post#Imo this is mainly because Elizabeth's negative historiography has always involved both vilification and diminishment in equal measure.#and because her brand of vilification (femme fatale; intriguer) suggests more indirect/“feminine” than legitimate/forceful types of power#It's still bizarre though-you'd think these would be some of the most famous & defining aspects of Elizabeth's life. But apparently not#I guess she only matters when it comes to marrying Edward and Promoting Her Family and scheming against Richard#There is very lacking interest in her beyond those things even in her traditionally negative depictions#And most of her “reassessments” tend to do diminish her so badly she's rendered utterly irrelevant and almost pathetic by the end of it#Even when some of these things *are* mentioned they're never truly emphasized as they should be.#See: her formal appointment in royal councils. It was highly unconventional + entirely unprecedented for queens in the 14th & 15th century#You'd think this would be incredibly important and highlighted when analyzing late medieval queenship in England but apparently not#Historians are more willing to straight-up INVENT positions & roles for so many other late medieval queens/king's mothers that didn't exist#(not getting into this right now it's too long...)#But somehow acknowledging and discussing Elizabeth's ACTUAL formally appointed role is too much for them I guess#She's either subsumed into the general vilification of her family (never mind that they were known as 'the queen's kin' to actual#contemporaries; they were defined by HER not the other way around) or she's rendered utterly insignificant by historians. Often both.#But at the end of the day her individual role and identity often overlooked or downplayed in both scenarios#and ofc I've said this before but - there has literally never been a proper reassessment of Elizabeth's role in 1483-85 TILL DATE#despite the fact that it's such a sensational and well-known time period in medieval England#This isn't even a Wars of the Roses thing. Both Margaret of Anjou and Margaret Beaufort have had multiple different reassessments#of their roles and positions during their respective crises/upheavals by now;#There is simply a distinct lack of interest in reassessing Elizabeth in a similar way and I think this needs to be acknowledged.#Speaking of which - there's also a persistent habit of analyzing her through the context of Margaret of Anjou or Elizabeth of York#(either as a parallel or a foil) rather than as a historical figure in HER OWN RIGHT#that's also too long to get into I just wanted to point it out because I hate it and I think it's utterly senseless#I've so much to say about how all of this affects her portrayal in historical fiction as well but that's going into a whole other tangent#ofc there are other things but these in particular *really* frustrate me#just felt like ranting a bit in the tags because these are all things that I want to individually discuss someday with proper posts...

"If progressives have a politics that says all white people are racist, all men are toxic, and all billionaires are evil, it's kinda hard to keep them on your side. And so, we might want to think about-- if you're chasing people out of the party, you can't be mad when they leave. And maybe if we had a different politics, we actually said dignity for everybody, everybody is respected and we need you, more people might stay." -- Van Jones

What abuser tactics look like.
Disney has spent a decade telling the traditional fanbase of franchises like Marvel, Star Wars, Indiana Jones and even their animated movie library that they're not welcome or needed by belittling, deconstructing, undermining, subverting and completely replacing the characters fans have loved for years. Resulting in billions of dollars lost in box office and streaming bombs, from 2016's "Ghostbusters" all the way through to 2024's $230m utter disaster, "The Acolyte." And then calling the fans "toxic" for criticizing it or not watching it at all.
The same is true of gaming companies, resulting in multi-million-dollar flops like Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League, Star Wars: Outlaws, Dragon Age: The Veilguard, and perhaps most notorious of all, the $400m+ Concord, which was shut down and refunded two weeks after its launch. Again, with the blame leveled at players - you know, the studios' paying customers - rather than those producing this garbage in the first place.
You're not entitled to people's support, much less their money, just because you might have had it once. Especially when you're asking them to give you their money. They don't have to put up with being vilified, demonized or even simply their needs being ignored. Your political party, franchise or game is only as good as the last thing you did for them. When you stop looking after their needs, they'll take their money or their support somewhere else.

"A similar item in all the biographies written about Fredegonde during the first half of the nineteenth century was the emphasis placed on her gender. When we recall what was written about Fredegonde in 1789, “Frédégonde seroit aujourd’hui le modele des reines, & peut-être des rois,” and compare it to what Langerack wrote in 1847, “Mais ce n’était pas assez pour Frédégonde d’être reine: il lui fallait être reine et roi tout ensemble,” we see how Fredegonde was viewed as crossing the line between feminine queenship and masculine kingship. The central ideas in the quotations are different–the first one emphasises her “crimes” as a leader and presents her masculine behaviour as a positive feature. In the second one, however, the criticism is aimed at her unfeminine ambition and lust for power. It was no longer the monarchy itself which was negative but the queen who did not behave like a good bourgeois queen should have behaved. The same image of Fredegonde subjugating her husband persisted throughout the early nineteenth century as it was used as an example of “unnatural” relations and as a sign of the Merovingian period’s decadence. She was thus perceived in many occasions as a masculine figure but her “greatness” was always attached to the political needs tied to historiography–just as Clovis’ “greatness” was tied to the rebirth of French monarchy in the beginning of the nineteenth century. Both figures were instruments used by historians to bolster their vision of the “French nation.”
Fredegonde’s role as a queen of France was partly based on second-hand sources written during the Ancien Régime, and as the use of these sources diminished, so did her role in the history of France. In addition, there are several revealing reasons why no one ever wrote any entire work about Fredegonde. First of all she was not perceived as a good role model for female readers and therefore no woman writer would or could write about her. The choice of topics for women authors was very limited–most of them wrote to make a living and it would have been very difficult to get a book about Fredegonde published as it could not have been sold to a bourgeois lady. Saint queens from the Merovingian period, Clotilde, Radegonde and Bathilde, were more suitable topics for biographies as they functioned as role models–even for queens such as Maria Amelia who identified herself to a bourgeois lady as well. Secondly the reason why there were no works about Fredegonde is that she did not represent the nineteenth-century idea of civilisation, whereas Brunhilde could be depicted as the well-educated patron of religious monuments. Fredegonde was in fact perceived as less “French” and more German than Brunhilde. But as Chilperic’s wife, as a “queen of France,” she could not be ignored, and queenship itself assured her a place among “famous women.” The new historiographical ideas which led to represent Gauls, and Gallo-Romans, as opposing the Franks brought about a slow change in Fredegonde’s role. She no longer represented the early monarchs but the German Franks who were perceived as oppressing the Gauls. Her history was thus a warning example of what might happen to a society if “natural” social classes or gender hierarchies were not respected. Eventually she also came to represent the threat of Germanic influence in France –all in one person."
— Heta Aali, "Fredegonde – Great Man of the Nineteenth Century", Les Grandes figures historiques dans les Lettres et les Arts 2 (2013)

i am really glad that "bad seed" dallas fics aren't the norm anymore. it felt almost victim blame-y whenever i came across a take that "dallas is a bad seed, he's evil and bad and he had actually good moral and nice parents!" it was coming from a crowd who think dallas is the devil in the first place but also i feel it was from people who didn't like, read or listen.

Mothers when you bring up something very much factual and very easy to look up but it requires them to question their words and actions:
"I don't wanna have an argument about stuff we have different opinions on"
- if dissuasive attempt fails, engaging "Stop acting like you know everything"

I’m still surprised that they made Angelica Ross, a Black trans woman, play an evil, murderous woman targeting an « innocent » cis white woman played by Emma Roberts in AHS : 1984 and apparently nobody saw how wrong this was?? They should have switched the roles. AHS and Ryan Murphy have a huge problem when it comes to representation for Black women because they’re always depicted as aggressive and scary (especially when they’re dark-skinned)
so I stopped watching ahs a while ago but that is so freaking messed up. like the only reason emma roberts is cast as the innocent cis white woman is because she fulfills the look of one. meanwhile didn't she literally beat evan peters a few years ago??? (also she's a nepo baby so)
ryan murphy is shit and I hope he rots for doing that to angelica ross. (also he kept working on ahs during the strike so he can go choke).
