Case of the pockets
Part 1 : Part 2 : Part 3 : Part 4 : Part  5 : Epilogue
Written by: @tratieisdabest ★ @heroes-villains-side-blog ★ @just-a-space-rabbit
TW:Restraints, Prison mention
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
They switched places, with Villain Sidekick taking centre stage.
“Ahem. As you can see,” they indicated the relevant area on their board, “ever since pockets on heroes’ super suits have been introduced, replacing the old suits and the court-mandated handbags, the crime rate has dropped from 43% to 30%. More criminals are being caught, and they’re being caught faster and easier, almost 46 minutes faster on average! Not to mention that less gadgets are being forgotten on crime scenes, only 17 per 100 from 36 per 100, which means less gadgets for villains and civilians to get their hands on.
"The lack of pockets in the past really slowed heroes down," they said while walking across the room like a professor giving a lecture, "They had no gadgets nor weapons on their person, having to resort to agency-mandated handbags which had their own set of problems."
"Your stats are impressive and all," Hero Sidekick tried to interject, "but this is about feelings not—"
"Shush," Villain Sidekick scolded, then continued. “As I was saying, and as my colleagues so annoyingly demonstrated, agency-mandated handbags were poorly designed, first of all, having no compartments whatsoever, just one big black hole to put all your stuff in.
"This was cumbersome; heroes are busy professionals. Not only did they use their handbags for weapons and gadgets, but also for paperwork, investigative instruments, clues, their ID, wallet, what have you.
"Searching through those awful contraptions lost heroes a lot of valuable time, giving villains the chance to escape, strategize, or jump heroes while they’re distracted.
"Now, it is obvious that villains had everything to gain from the old suits and handbags, and heroes were at a disadvantage. That is why, when Hero got their new suit, Villain seemed upset and distracted.
"Therefore!" They stopped and turned to the audience, a big smile on their face, "I conclude, without a shadow of doubt, that Villain orchestrated the whole thing – they infiltrated the hero agency and designed those horrid suits and handbags so that they could have the advantage over you dumb heroes!” Villain Sidekick declared proudly then crossed their arms expecting a round of applause.
Unfortunately, they didn’t even get a chance to look at everyone’s reactions before Supervillain yelled out.
"They didn't do it! I did!”
Everyone turned to the master criminal, the same question on their lips, “What?”
Supervillain rose from their seat, “Villain can barely talk to their crush, do you think they would be able to design a whole attractive outfit just for them?”
Villain was now blushing again, much more furiously than before, but no one, not even Villain Sidekick, could come to Villain's defence; everyone was stunned silent.
"It was me, little sidekick club,” they continued, “I did the whole thing! I infiltrated the agency, designed most of the costumes myself, I even added those ridiculous impractical handbags to top it all off!"
Throughout all of this, Villain Sidekick just stood there, mouth open, until both Henchman and Hero Sidekick yelled, "Wait, there really was a pocket conspiracy!?" They paused, processing the new information, then Hero Sidekick continued, "I… I guess it makes sense, but I TOLD YOU Villain had a crush on Hero! Look, even Supervillain agrees!" They whipped around to look at Villain Sidekick smugly, clearly happier about having more support for their case, than about having a crime boss confess to a large-scale crime in front of so many witnesses.
"Well… alrighty," Hero cleared their throat. "I've heard enough. Hero Sidekick, could you—” Hero Sidekick didn't even let Hero finish, springing up to untie them, while Villain Sidekick did the same for Villain.
All eyes landed on Supervillain. The real bad-guy was right there, and they had wronged all of them… well except for Henchman, who had once again seemed to disappear into the background. Everyone else started crowding in on Supervillain, cornering them.
Surprisingly, one could say suspiciously, they let themselves be arrested without complaint.
As they were being cuffed by Hero, Villain Sidekick suddenly felt a hard pat on their shoulder. "You know, I’m gonna miss your villainous antics, I mean, since you’re basically a hero now," Henchman grinned at Villain Sidekick’s distressed face.
“Nooooo!” Villain Sidekick buried their face in their hands, garnering another pat from Henchman.
"Now, now, I’m sure you’ll make a great hero." Henchman said, then turned to Hero, "Hey, Hero! Bet you my pockets are better than yours!"
Hero unceremoniously shoved Supervillain over to Hero Sidekick, "You’re on!"
Hero Sidekick stood there awkwardly between Supervillain and Villain, glancing back and forth at the two, probably making emergency plans in case the two teamed up.
"So, Villain. how’d you like my plan?" Supervillain asked, quite pleased with themselves and not at all fazed with the fact that they were currently handcuffed and would be soon off to prison.
Villain just sighed, "Really, Supervillain? Really?"
"Yup!" Supervillain chuckled deviously.
Seeing how distracted the two villains were by their conversation, Hero Sidekick took the opportunity to make sure Supervillain’s cuffs were secure enough.
After they were sure the cuffs were secure, they began to relax; while Supervillain had escaped many a containment cell, they had never defeated the hero agency’s tried-and-true power repressing cuffs.
This was quite confusing for the agency, seeing as how each cell Supervillain had been placed in had increasingly powerful walls, with new types of metals having been invented just for them, but each of which still failed. The master criminal always escaped their prison without leaving any witnesses or evidence that may give the heroes a clue of their power, instead, it looked like they just walked out the door.
Regardless, now Hero Sidekick only had to worry about one villain, who seemed far more focused on Supervillain than the sidekick holding onto them.
"And," Supervillain continued in a whisper, leaning in towards Villain, "I made sure to make your crush's outfit extra distracting, showing off those gorgeous muscles you love so much."
Villain’s blush was at maximum capacity now, and if it could grown any redder, it would have. They turned away from Supervillain, trying to avoid embarrassment, but their eyes accidentally fell on the same hero they were trying not to think about.
Much to Supervillain’s delight, Villain froze. Their eyes were fixed on Hero but not their face, no no no, instead, it was Hero’s arms that made Villain’s brain buffer. It seemed that in order to give Henchman a full walkthrough of all of their pockets and compartments, Hero had folded up their sleeves, giving Villain passers-by a full view of the very same muscles that Villain had pretended not to miss. Those forearms… wow. It took all of Villain's willpower not to swoon.
But of course, Hero remained oblivious, far too busy showing Henchman their pockets and all the things they could carry in them.

Reformed Dan but misunderstandings suck
So, Dan has been Reformed for Years at this point. You could go with the Fandom Typical version of just chilling out, or you could go with the AGIT version of the Redemption. Either way, Dan is fully reformed and trying to find his way in the World.
Unfortunately, not everybody knows/believes him.
You know all those Time Traveling Heroes who came back to stop some great catastrophe? That was Dan.
Impulse is fucking terrified of this guy, cause he Grew Up in the Central City Stronghold and saw Phantom tear down the Walls protecting the City in person.
Booster Gold grew up in the Metropolis Stronghold, so while he never really saw Phantom in his timeline he still did know of him. I mean, obviously, he murdered every hero on the planet and subjugated most of the world, but he doesn't have much personal stake in that.
Eobard Thawn hates Phantom. Thawn himself grew up in a world where Phantom killed every Hero in the world, and he was terrified that Phantom would track him down when he tried to become the new Flash. But once he became a Walking Paradox he saw as Time itself changed to erase Phantom from existence, he got really jealous. Why did Time decide Phantom was bad enough to erase, why not him!? He's Evil! He's a Terror on the Timeline! He deserves Clockworks attention dammit!
And then, they discover evidence that Phantom has come back in Time,
So now, any and all Time Travelers are trying to find the guy who single-handedly was the Apocalypse, and want to kill him to save the world. Or out of Jealousy in Thawns case.
Either way, no matter where Dan goes to try and settle down, a bunch of annoying Heroes always find him and attack him, yelling about "Stopping his Plans" and "Saving the Timeline!" And "It should have been me dammit!"
Honestly Thawn is the most annoying one, he just runs in and rants at him about how he is jealous of how much attention Clockwork gave him. Dude, just sdmit your crush already and leave me alone. (I'm not sorry)

i also feel like i should clarify what i mean by "florian's main goal." in mjverse, (aka my interpretations of the game's universe,) florian & juliana are siblings and essentially act as co-protagonists. while juliana is the more talented battler of the two and ends up serving as the main protagonist of the victory road & starfall street storylines because of that, florian wants to become a pokémon professor so he focuses on helping out arven in the path of legends storyline while filling out the pokédex. the only reason why he's a competent trainer is so that he doesn't get completely bodied by wild pokémon in the midst of doing field research. and yes, knowing that probably ends up making kieran's complex about his own skills as a trainer even worse.

Literally cannot stop thinking about the implications of Shen Yuan being the only homophobic person in all of SV like imagine growing up your entire life having no idea what homophobia is and seeing this powerful guy suddenly undergo a personality change that makes him nicer but also makes him think that gay marriage is illegal and then you look behind him and he's seduced like 12 different men somehow

How to kiss someone on Villaintine's Day!
Featuring Villain and Hero! (based on that one joke)
Villain: How to kiss someone
Villain: Grab their waist
Villain: Slip your hand into their pocket
Villain: Steal their wallet
Villain: Don't even kiss them
Villain: Just run
Hero: Villain, NO.
Villain: What? Is that not how you kiss?
Villain: Aww, guess I'm out of practice
Villain: Hero, will you help me practice my kissing? 😇
Villain: Is there another way?
Villain: Why don't you show me, Hero? 😇
Villain: Or don’t you know how to kiss?
“You know what? Sure.” Hero was so done with Villain's shenanigans. They just wanted a nap and this seemed like a good enough way to shut them up for good.
“Wha—”
Before Villain could say another word, Hero had cupped their face in their hands. Looking over their shoulder, they called out to the sidekicks, “Take notes 'cause I’ll only do this once.” Villain was getting redder by the second, but Hero didn't seem to notice, or they didn't care.
“I-I—”
Hero completely ignored Villain’s stuttering, they were just struggling to stay awake right now. “So. You put your hands on their cheeks, gently.” They loosened their grip. “A good way to know is to imagine you're rubbing their tears with your thumbs. Well, ideally there won’t be any tears but the soft touch is still appreciated." Hero gently wiped away imaginary tears from Villain’s face, unaware that Villain had stopped breathing.
“Now, hm,” Hero got on their tiptoes, “Hm, sorry, Villain. Guess you're a bit too tall for me.” They turned to the sidekicks. “Hey, Villain Sidekick, can you come here? I think your height would do better.” Villain Sidekick didn’t even get a chance to blush before Villain abruptly dropped to their knees. Hero turned around. “Huh. Guess that’ll do. Thanks, V.”
They leaned down nonchalantly, all while Villain’s heart was pounding. Their face felt so hot, and they just knew that Hero could feel it with their hands still calmly holding their face.
“So, you’ve got your hands gently holding their face. You wipe their tears or just caress their face, again, gently. Then, watch. Villain, you too,” Hero kissed Villain’s forehead ever so softly. “This is how you kiss”, then their left cheek, “and this is how you kiss,” before bringing their lips ever so close to Villain’s own, “and... let me tell you a secret,” they whispered, their mouth curving into a smile, lips hovering right over Villain's. “I... I... I don’t know how to kiss either,” they said with a smirk, following it with a quick peck on Villain’s right cheek before immediately dropping their hands.
Oh, the look on Villain's face... thankfully, the sidekicks had their phone cameras on and were excellent note takers.

TW: kidnapping, noncon drugging, restraints
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Henchman was honestly not surprised. They entered the apartment only to see both Hero Sidekick and Villain Sidekick sitting comfortably on their couch.
“So, what's it for today?” Henchman said, moving over to their usual spot.
“Villain Sidekick still thinks the crush isn't real,” Hero Sidekick answered. They then turned to Villain Sidekick, “Darling. Have you seen the way your boss looks at my boss? They CLEARLY have feelings for each other. Or maybe they're even in love. Just think—”
At that Villain Sidekick seemed to have had enough. They jumped up, their hands formed into fists, “That's it! I'll prove it once and for all! It's not love, it's a conspiracy, you alloromantic maniacs!” They quickly whipped out their phone and dialled Villain.
“Is that a good idea?” Henchman carefully asked.
But Hero sidekick did the same, calling Hero.
“Nope, I don't think this is a good idea at all…” Henchman said to themselves as they mentally prepared for whatever was to come.
Not long after, both Hero and Villain arrived outside Henchman’s building; Henchman was on lookout duty as they tended to be able to just disappear into the background, so the three immediately knew when Hero and Villain arrived.
Villain Sidekick quickly knocked them both out with some chloroform (much to Hero Sidekick's dismay; they weren't exactly a fan of trusting Villain Sidekick with Hero, but were unwilling to do it themselves), before the trio took them in and tied them up in Henchman's apartment.
While waiting for them to wake up, Villain Sidekick stole Henchman's phone and called Supervillain for backup. They had a whole board planned and ready, complete with files, yarn, marker, sticky notes; the works. But there was a second one that was much more organised. There were still strings and such, but everything was laid out in ordered lists.
Henchman looked at both boards for a few minutes before finally asking, “Villain Sidekick. How long were you in my apartment for you to set all this up?”
Villain Sidekick waved a dismissing hand and replied, “Doesn't matter. Also, you're out of sticky notes.”
"Oh and you're missing a lot of paper and tape; by the time I got here Villain Sidekick had used up most of the sticky notes, so I was forced to improvise if we also wanted to have a visual aid," Hero Sidekick added.
Henchman gave a defeated sigh, clearly done with and having surrendered to the sidekicks' whims.
Hero Sidekick noticed Henchman's… displeasure and reached behind them, maybe as a saving grace, Henchman hoped. But Hero Sidekick only pulled out an empty bag of chips, "Oh, um, we had bought chips for you, but I guess we ate them all, so if you could go buy more for everyone that would be great."
“Seriously? You couldn’t even save me a single bag?” Without the promise of snacks, and a bunch of stationery missing, letting the sidekicks use their home as a meeting place was seeming less and less worth it for Henchman.
Hero stirred and groaned, eyes fluttering. Beside them, Villain was practically a mirror image, just as groggy and confused.
Hero looked down, hoping to find some clues in their surroundings, when they realised they were tied to a chair! “Wha— what's going on?”
Continuing their search for answers, they looked to their side, and upon seeing Villain, immediately came to a conclusion, “You kidnapped me!”
Villain, just as groggy, replied, “Nu-uh! You kidnapped me!”
They stared at each other, realising neither could have kidnapped the other seeing as they were both currently tied up.
“We've been kidnapped!” They both said at the same time.
Suddenly Supervillain entered the room, “Hahaha, well ain't this a sight to behold!” they laughed maniacally.
"You!" Hero yelled out.
Villain clearly had the same thought process, "You kidnapped us!”
“No, you're very much mistaken, my dear enemies—”
The sidekicks suddenly pushed past them.
“Move it, old-timer," Villain Sidekick said forcefully, trying to push Supervillain out of the way.
"Yeah we have work to do," Hero Sidekick agreed, wheeling multiple conspiracy boards behind them.
“Um, excuse you—” Supervillain glared at the two sidekicks, but was interrupted by yet another person.
“Excuse me, boss, need to get through!” Henchman apologised, following the others. Suddenly they stopped, double-taking at Supervillain, “Wait, boss? What are you doing here?”
“Why, I was invited, Henchman.” Supervillain replied with a knowing smile.
Hero Sidekick and Henchman looked at each other, then at Villain Sidekick.
"Villain Sidekick, why did y—" Henchman started.
Villain Sidekick interrupted nonchalantly, “As if I'd trust you two plus Hero. I called them so you guys can’t arrest me or Villain thinking we're sitting ducks.”
Hero Sidekick sighed, but said nothing. Henchman just looked at Villain Sidekick with a tinge of disappointment.
Villain Sidekick set their board up so that its back was facing the audience while Supervillain, Hero Sidekick and Henchman took their seats, making sure that Hero and Villain were able to watch the show whilst still being tied up.
Villain Sidekick then took a seat and said, “Actually, you go first. I want to see you make fools of yourselves before I win.”
Hero Sidekick rolled their eyes, “Whatever.”
Hero Sidekick and Henchman stood side-by-side facing the audience, having moved Villain Sidekick’s board out of the way and replacing it with their own.
Hero Sidekick began, “We are gathered here today to decide, once and for all, the reason behind Villain’s odd reaction to Hero’s new suit.”
Villain sputtered, “Wha- what are you talking about?” They turned to Villain Sidekick, “What’s going on? Why are we tied up?”
Villain Sidekick snorted. “These two idiots think you’ve got a crush on Hero.”
Villain and Hero blushed and turned to each other in shock, but Villain eventually looked away, their face pink.
“I don’t have a crush on Hero!” Villain exclaimed, still not looking at the hero in question. Instead they stared at the shadows stretching over the walls, looking as if they wanted to melt into them.
“That’s what I said! But these two idiots won’t believe me. Just chill, V. It’ll be fun watching them crash and burn.”
Hero Sidekick and Henchman glared at Villain Sidekick who just smirked. Then, Hero Sidekick began gesturing to their board.
“Let's start. Exhibit A!" Hero Sidekick exclaimed. "Villain was disappointed, not angry with Hero’s new suit. Why would they be disappointed? If the new suit gave Hero an advantage, then Villain should be angry as their chances of success have gone down.
"But no, Villain was disappointed. They were pouty and frowning and kept asking Hero about their old suit. Which brings me to my next point.
"Exhibit B! Villain liked Hero's old suit for a reason that did not interfere with their plans. As said before, if it interfered with their plans, it would result in anger, not pouting like a little baby." At this, Villain sputtered, but Hero Sidekick ignored them. "Now, I know this may seem a bit of an odd assumption for me to make about how Villain would react to a plan failing, but I've seen it a few times, and just like with any other villain, they get a bit grumpy-wumpy—"
"—Hey!" All three villains in the room, excluding Henchman, sounded offended, but Hero Sidekick paid them no mind and continued.
"—when their meticulous plans fall through. So, what could that reason be, you ask? Well, that Villain liked Hero's old suit, more specifically what it looked like, more specifically what Hero looked like in it."
Hero Sidekick paused for a breath while Hero eyed Villain suspiciously, who was trying desperately to open a hole in the ground with their mind.
"Now, what do I mean by that? Well, look no further than Exhibit C! The handbag!"
Henchman displayed Hero Sidekick's old handbag and its insides in all its terribly designed glory.
"Where are you going with this?" Villain Sidekick sounded more confused than annoyed right now.
"Patience, grasshopper," they turned around to face the audience, "Now, what does this handbag have to do with my previous statement, you ask? Well, observe."
Henchman took off the handbag from their shoulder and exclaimed in a mock ‘hero’ voice, "Oh, dearie me! I need a taser if I'm going to stop you, evil-doer! Just let me find it in this labyrinth of gadgets, weapons, receipts, snacks, the entire country of Ireland, and whatever you can think of, honestly."
They then proceeded to scrounge around in the bag while Hero Sidekick spoke, "Observe Henchman pretending to be a hero who wants to get something out of their agency-issued handbag. But!" They held a finger up at the audience, "More specifically observe them, their arms, muscles, hair, etcetera. Notice how you can very easily, as the kids say, check them out, while they are too busy looking through their bag, none the wiser. And, though this is more of a footnote seeing as it's a matter of opinion, the old suit most definitely showed off Hero’s muscles better."
Hero Sidekick paused, glancing at Villain to judge their reaction to this. A blush was blooming, but there was still a valiant effort being made to fight it off.
With a small smirk, Hero Sidekick continued. "Anyway, back to the handbag. As we all know, Villain never attacked Hero when they were occupied with their bag. Why? This would be the perfect opportunity, they are unarmed, defenceless, distracted, unfocused."
They then gasped dramatically, as if suddenly realising something.
"Then why did Villain never attack Hero? Simple. It is because they were too busy checking Hero out! Because they have a crush on them!" The last part was practically shouted directly at Villain Sidekick, who had said little throughout Hero Sidekick's monologue.
Villain, on the other hand, refused to meet anyone's eyes, and was getting redder by the second, and Supervillain seemed to be enjoying every second of their misery.
Finally, Villain Sidekick broke the silence and asked Villain, "Yo, V. You got a crush on Hero or not?"
"...Of course not. " They answered weakly, barely a whisper. But that seemed to be good enough for Villain Sidekick. Hero Sidekick, on the other hand, while they said nothing, raised their eyebrows, clearly unconvinced by the weak tone used.
Villain Sidekick was sure they were correct and stood up, ready to blow everyone away with their research. “See? Your entire case shattered. Just because villains regularly flirt with heroes, doesn't mean we actually like you guys. Get over yourselves, it's just a tactic, darling." They wiggled their eyebrows at Hero Sidekick to prove their point, but Hero Sidekick looked less than impressed. Villain Sidekick then shrugged, "Anyway, now it's my turn.”

sometimes I see people saying stuff like “how can you feel bad for [x character]! they brought this on themselves!” and my feeling is always sort of... “yes, and that makes it worse?”
while sure it’s sad when a character is suffering from the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune through no fault of their own but simply because the world they live in is cruel and unfair or whatever, it hits me much harder when a character is suffering because their own actions have come back around to cause them pain. then you have the dual layer of the suffering on top of the knowledge, acknowledged or unacknowledged internal to the narrative but present for the reader, that it’s...not even their fault, necessarily, I’m not really interested in language of fault, but that something they did or choices they made had unexpected and unwanted consequences.
it’s like...I sort of hate the concept of “got what they deserved” as a sentiment, broadly speaking, and I feel like that’s sometimes where people go with this, but for me it’s just much more resonant and much hurtier to look at the ways in which someone, intentionally or unintentionally, ends up causing themselves pain - and what they do with that.
not sure this is making any sense, but “I feel like the juiciest angst is the angst that comes from the destructive impact of your own actions” probably kinda gets at it.
this is probably about me being generally a tragedy enjoyer, isn’t it.

Okay so silly question but i see a lot of yall on here and you say all the homoerotic stuff in mgs is canon right? Especially otasune, bbkaz, bosselot. Not to sound like a hater but the first game came out in 1998. You know what age hideo Kojima was back then? 36 with a wife and kids. So what's his real purpose for making a whole game series about a buncha gay guys? That's what leads me to believe it's unintentional but idk. If he said why then lmk cause I dont get why he would? I've been thinking about this a lot recently because I've been seeing a lot of people saying it's deliberate. Anyone can answer btw my askbox is open because i Need an explanation. More in tags cause im insane.

My two oc's, Freyjr and Kharhad 🥹from one of my original stories that I'm actually running a poll on whether i should write it or another story first go vote now!
The story starts on an island empire, a melting pot inspired by Mediterranean cultures. Kharhad is crown prince of the current royal line, while Freyjr is the daughter of a northern admiral who now serves Kharhad's family. She and her family hail from a northern country heavily inspired by Scandinavian Vikings.
Due to a recent but long history of war between the island empire and this northern country in particular, many who are aware of Kharhad's intense crush on Freyjr are quite disapproving of the potential match, as those of northern descent are often mistrusted or disliked in the island empire.
Kharhad is a beefy nerd who drinks his "respect women" juice daily--and is quite the catch, if only he could stop acting completely awkward and shy and like a bumbling buffoon around Freyjr, maybe she'd notice that he's totally in love with her😭 (she does actually kinda know haha he's not exactly subtle with his feelings 😉). I'd say he has the energy of a himbo but he is probably too academic to qualify as one technically speaking 🤔
They're two of the main POV characters in the novel. The other two are Phasmus, Kharhad's best friend, and Princess Mhessa, Kharhad's younger sister who covets everything her brother has and wishes were hers: His status as heir to the islands, how well liked and respected he is among their peers, and of course, even the affection a certain northern lass has for her older brother 😏
Anyway, if you want to see this story come to life sooner than later pls go vote for it here! (Story idea #2 btw!)

Was thinking a bit about how “The Devil’s Playhouse” has a lot more comedy than people make it out to be, and while especially thinking about “The Penal Zone” I realized this episode is actually very very very very gay. Like, I’m pretty sure it’s the Telltale episode with the highest amount of gay moments (205 is second on this list, what with Sam getting catcalled by a moleman, Max flirting with Mr. Reaperphone, the whole bachelor party, Peppers etc).
I think what I really like about those moments is that it’s a great example of normalization. The characters are incredibly casual about it, talking about gay relationships the exact same way one would talk about straight relationships, it’s really neat to see! Especially considering that this game was made in 2010, a whooping 5 years before gay marriage was legal in the whole US. It's crazy and great how much they were able to get away with!
(Screenshots of all these moments with timestamps (and quotes) under the cut. To have as little pics as possible, only a small section of each dialogue is taken. And to have a limit of two screenshots per pic max, some dialogues that are cut in two parts in-game have the second part pasted under the first. The timestamps puts you at the beginning of each conversation. All footage from NapalmX717 with the screenshots in chronological order of this video)

Max: “It’s simple, Sam: the RED cable goes on the RIGHT nipple, the BLACK cable clamps to the…” (34:42)

(For context they’re talking about who might be Girl Stinky’s secret admirer)

Max: “What kind of pretend mother would I be if I didn’t worry about our imaginary baby?” (1:10:31)

Momma Bosco: “Oh, it’s not all bad. I’m getting better at apparating. And now I don’t leave a trail of ectoplasmic slime behind every time I leave the room.”

SUPER DARK TIMES (2017) DIR KEVIN PHILLIPS
#tragically had to skip the 'are you afraid of me' exchange i love at the start bc. this scene is Long#super dark times#josh templeton#zach taylor#sam edits#btw i'm firmly in the 'Josh didn't kill John' camp. bc to me THIS scene is the point that... makes the most sense as Josh's breaking point/#'villain turn' if that's what you'd want to call it. because this is really when Josh... sort of 'officially' loses Zach. from early on in#the movie it becomes clear how much Zach is like... an anchor for him—the way Josh is just fucking *chanting* his name in distress during#the Daryl accident. The way Josh begs Zach to believe him that it was an accident. The way Josh turns to Zach for answers/clarity/direction#Like even if we want to take a cynical approach and think of it as Josh just latching onto Zach in the Daryl situation because he was There#rather than that being an established thing w/ them... in the aftermath of that same incident Josh is still looking to/depending on him!#Josh self isolates at first... but after they talk & Zach tells him they shouldn't act weird Josh goes back to school. (yes#he lashes out there because He's Dealing With The Crushing Guilt but *all* of 'em are acting off then—Charlie specifically calls attention#to the idea they all probably are) Josh goes to the party just like Zach said they should and is *visibly confused* when Zach seems mad to#see him there. He goes to Zach's house to talk and you can SEE how caught off guard he is by what Zach says. Even though the script version#of this scene is VERY different from the final version I do think this one bit of description from it is... insightful: 'Josh seems sincere#almost vulnerable. But Zach is too focused to see it.' LIKE in this scene Zach is already convinced Josh has lost it! He's trying to act#more neutral about it (claiming they could just 'draw a line') but we saw his phone call with Charlie. Because of his own guilt-fueled#paranoia—something shown pretty clearly through the assorted dream sequences and like tht scene of him walking in the hall hearing people#gossip about Daryl—it seems like everything lines up too well! that '*of course* it's Josh and what if it's *been* Josh all along and well#then the role *I* played in the situation really isn't *my* fault because it was all *Josh* and...' etc. even if that's more subconscious#But like... this scene is really when it hits Josh! from the moment he asks if Zach's afraid of him now like... there's a shift. although#Zach says he isn't... i mean he fucking stumbles on the word 'afraid' (like... he hangs on the 'f' sound a moment too long to sound natural#its very subtle but like Noticeable). But Josh sees right through him. Zach doesn't trust him anymore. Zach thinks he's the bad guy. the#monster. Josh feeling like he lost the last person he had in his corner feels like the most realistic thing to... push him over the#edge. like that's a compelling tragedy to me—the idea that these two poorly coping with the Daryl situation in these separated ways where#they *aren't* talking/communicating ends up CREATING the feedback loop that makes everything get worse and worse.#But for that to be the case... it wouldn't make sense for Josh to have just randomly killed John before this scene. I think it's a more#interesting story if certain things really ARE just coincidences but it's that Zach's paranoia won't let him see that 🤷
