PSA FOR ADDING "ALT TEXT" TO IMAGES
Please stop putting inside jokes and witticisms in your alt text and image IDs. They do not help disabled people at all and confuse us. Alt text is for conveying the details of the image only. It's a necessary aid, not a space to put *wink wink* references in the hope that able bodied people will get it. This includes things like:
example: the image of a horror "deer" type monstrous entity, like the deer from annihilation or hannibal. don't caption it as "not deer" or "is that a deer? is that a ghost? who can say?" it's not funny or poetic, it's just fucking obnoxious for someone with no/low vision.
a fan art of katara from avatar the last airbender, wearing her usual outfit. DON'T CAPTION IT: "Katara in her usual outfit" describe the character and the outfit, even briefly. write: "katara, a dark skinned indigenous girl with dark hair and blue eyes, wearing a blue and white tunic, dark coloured pants and a blue betrothal necklace".
do not use weird fonts, emojis or the like in your caption. they are not easily read and often confused by alt text reader.
If you have thoroughly described the image, go ahead with jokes in context (for example, say, an exaggerated cartoon of Jeremy Allen White, you have described that his eyes are portrayed to be "uncannily blue", now you can make a joke about the blue eyes): but keep in mind, can the disabled person understand it without necessary context, given the way you have presented it? If not, are you using visual aid not for us, but to make inside jokes with non-disabled folk?
[ please do not be an edgy, ableist asshole on this post. ]

watched the first two episodes of murderbot. i think it's very fun, and i will definitely continue to watch it, but i'm not feeling very trusted by the creative team. that first scene felt so unnecessary to me, like we had to be told that humans might be dicks to constructs, or that the governor module is Bad Actually, which all could have happened during the immediate next scene and maybe sprinkled in a bit through that first interaction with the presaux crew. imagine, instead, that we had opened with the whole 'refurbished model' 'what is that piece of crap' 'oh that's me' bit. i feel like that would be more on brand and a little bit less 'as you know, bob'. the company reps literally explain the governor module in that scene already. also why are we getting very telling shots of the deltfall hab at the end of the second episode?? idk. i know that this show was going to have a hard time impressing me to begin with, but i'm very willing to be excited by the process of adaptation! adaptations are cool! they're not one-to-one and they're not supposed to be! but i do wish that these creators trusted their audience a bit more, and maybe had a little bit more patience.

My thinking about Deimos vs Sanford's hair is basically that both of them prefer something relatively low maintenance, but Dei is proud of how long his locs are cuz their length shows how long it's been since he was in the Agency, undeniable proof of his free will, and San's hair does require an amount of tending to keep healthy and shaped nicely, so that's something he has control over and can actively maintain without requiring an especially intense routine like some styles do, like Doc's mohawk for example. I wanted both of their hairstyles to characterize them, albeit kinda subtly, but subtlety is nice. Dei's locs also have a ton of movement and flow that kind of express his personality, where San's hair, being closer to his head, reinforces that unkillable motif, at least to me, like he's guarded, you can't get to him. Plus yknow. It has to fit under the durag lmao
