Your W.I.T.C.H posting reminded me how much I love the series. The animated series is the reason my English is as good as it is, because I couldn't find the episodes in German. So it got me started on watching stuff in English. For a while I read all the comics as they came out. I'm increasingly tempted to do a rewatch and a reread.

Yes, reread W.i.t.c.h.!!! I personally am something of a comics purist; the cartoon never hit the same notes that I loved so much in the comics, so it just wasn't for me. But a lot of people love it, so it's probably worth a rewatch as well!

I'm doing a W.i.t.c.h. reread atm and I'm honestly impressed by how fucking good this comic is. Aside from the characters just all being excellent and not falling into tired character tropes at all (or at least putting interesting spins on those; ask me about Cornelia Hale), the narrative has very clear themes and discusses them in a very nuanced way. That's outstanding, for a comic that was made in the 2000s for a predominantly preteen/teen audience. I could also gush forever about how realistic the portrayal of the girls' everyday life is and how deeply human the side characters feel, which gives so much life to the main characters as well - but I go feral over this comic enough as it is, I'll say all those things eventually if I haven't already said them.

I started reading W.i.t.c.h. when I was approximately ten years old and I've loved it since, so I fully expected the quality of the comic not to hold up anymore now that I'm reading it as an adult, but it does. It fully does. I'm noticing things now that I never noticed as a teenager, and they all show how carefully a lot of this story was crafted.

Obligatory warning that the quality decreased rapidly somewhere between arcs 5 and 7, so I'll personally stop reading there, but yeah. Reread W.i.t.c.h.

W.I.T.C.H. Character Headcanons (bc I say so)

So for those of you who don't know, I'm creating a rewrite of W.I.T.C.H. on Wattpad. It will essentially be if it were given a live action adaptation with a standing total of 60 episodes (5 seasons; 12 episodes per season). These headcanons all apply to said rewrite -- I have my Wattpad linked on my blog so go check it out!

Irma is canonically a Latina lesbian, that's zero debate, however I specifically headcanon her as Guatemalan.

Taranee and Peter Cook are canonically blasian! The Cooks are out here representing the blended families! I will be taking no arguments or criticisms!

I read a post a while ago about how every other fantasy world is based on Medieval Europe, Metamoor/Meridian being one of them and I was like "you know what would be cool? if instead Metamoor was based on Ancient Indian culture." so that's what I did and now Elyon and Phobos are ethnically Indian (Elyon's new name is Elyon Bhandari and I can't think of it as anything else now) (plus Metamoor is actually ten times more interesting with the amount of lore I'm creating for it).

sidenote: I need it to be known that Elyon will also be serving as the vice president of the Sheffield Student Government/Student Council to foreshadow her queenliness and she's also a book girly and she has initiative and Phobos is actually clever enough in his manipulation tactics for Elyon to not question everything until the last couple days leading up to her coronation. I wanted the queen to serve.

Everyone imagine real quick (cartoon) Matt Olsen as a black man. I don't know how I started picturing him black but now I cannot stop because it just works! We need a black lead guitar/lead singer of a rock band everyone will be making thirst edits over who is also humble kind sweet loyal loving-- And can I just say he would look sexy hot with the Shagon dreads! You cannot change my mind on this!

Kio Cyr is literally Eric Lyndon! I found an image with him in a NASA t-shirt and I was like "that's him folks!" Though, I do specifically headcanon Eric as Filipino.

Alchemy is now Alchemy Torres and she's a chem/bio nerd with an affinity for puzzles. I'm still figuring her out but she will gain more importance in S2.

I made a crackship out of Nashter (one of the Runics from the 100% WITCH arc) and Taranee and now it's very very serious. Not only does he have a British accent (do not ask) but he and Taranee are basically a detective duo/partners-in-crime turned besties in S3, which corresponds with the Crisis on Both Worlds arc which means angsty Taranee which means incredible banter between a smartass and a flirt.

And when I tell you that Nashter is the only white Runic I mean it: Darmon is lighter skin black, Shalin is Asian of some sort (specific region TBD), Cromo is dark skin black, and Ran-Rah is indigenous af.

Caleb lowkey is giving indigenous energy? I've barely touched him but the farthest I've gotten is that I saw one fanart of Caleb if he were on Phobos' side originally and now he has a whole defection arc in S1 from head of Phobos' guard to rebel leader in addition with angsty C&C so there's that going for us.

Tag game! What are you top 10 fandoms of all time? Name them and then tag ten more people. Feel free to write as much or as little about why you like them! I'll start.

in some particular order, though not consistently:

1 - Danny Phantom! my first and constant love, my introduction to the world of fic, and what got me actually make strides in first learning english way back when! the fandom has long since shifted to more gen-centric fields than in my days (and with a lot less interaction with the character i imprinted on for the entirety of my preteens and teens, hi sam) and so i find it harder to stick with it for long, but every once in a while i'll poke my head in there to reread old faves or see what's up. still going strong with the dissection fic genre? fucking superb, you funky little phandom. keep going, i love you.

2 - Hyouka, my beloved. it's one of those cozy little animes i keep coming back to, and there's quite a few jewels on the archive too! hits that perfect sense of nostalgia with a bright outlook and more than a dash of character growth, i especially love rewatching the final arc because the characters are so much more at ease with themselves and you really can tell.

3 - Petshop of Horrors, to the surprise of absolutely no-one 😂 no, i will not elaborate, i already do enough of that on my entire blog!

4 - Howl's Moving Castle, which is only one of my top 3 books of all time (and i do mean books!!! miss me with the ghibli movie other than howl's blond design!!!). believe it or not, i only got into hmc after i started going by howl, which was, uh. interesting. when i tried joining a server for it.

5 - Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun! i'm fairly bummed that the fandom nearly disappeared over the years, because it just keeps getting better. one of those mangas that legitimately make you laugh out loud and it's not an exaggeration, i've made some worrying noises while reading it.

6 - Tomb Raider. okay, time to admit it. i'm half a poser here. i was a huge fan of the original top cow comic run as a teen, and loved the 2013 game to death (everything else that derived from it - vikander's movie, the sequels, and comics - not so much 😬; the animation released this year wasn't bad though, but suffered in coming after the sequels i think), and have played a variety of more recent-ish stuff, but i'm woefully lacking in having played the og games despite og lara being my fave. i got a remaster of the first three for myself to play this christmas so i'm working on fixing it though!

7 - W.I.T.C.H. comics. don't look at me. i'm still forever bitter that child me didn't buy all possible merch available before it stopped being a thing! what do you mean i wasn't financially independent. also do not speak to me of the animation either, i hate that it's the first thing people think about when i mention w.i.t.c.h. despite having hugely different plots and characterizations 😭

8 - Codename: Kids Next Door. i'm no longer... really a part of it? especially since i can't bring myself to read fic for that fandom anymore, but i'm still hopelessly squishy about it and i was SO excited about the G:KND announcement before our hopes got blown to smithereens rip

9 - Barbie Animated Movies. no i can't just pick one!!!! though the 2001-2009 and 2015-2016 eras are the best. and i do have to specify it's only the animated ones, terribly sorry but i highly disliked the Robbie/Gretwig one in all matters but aesthetic.

10 - Alien and/or Alien vs Predator. took me forever to decide on a last fandom so just here. take it. ignore the guilty tears as i pretend not to see my other fandoms looking at me resentfully as they're excluded from the list.

The fact we get to see motherfucking CEDRIC falling in love with the lawful good warrior Orube is perfect. And their chemistry. OMG artists totally drew them banging at one point

Z - General Fandom rambling; ill use this as a place to put my Azula/Seicho headcanons. Azula is the little spoon. She was also the first to admit bek g in love but she was really weird and awkward about it. Ssicho has learned to speak Azula--by this i mean that she knows when Azula doesn't mean to be unkind or offensive. Seicho convinced her to get a tattoo that nobody else has ever seen.

U - somethingI genuine like about a character I don't like is that Katara is a genuinely nice person and I think that her whole character arc was well done. Especially that part where she faced Yon Rah down.

L - 5 different characters from five different fandoms; Azula of course! Also Regina from Once, Icy from Winx, Nerissa from W.i.t.c.h. and Lady D from RE Village!

Are you a fan of W.I.T.C.H. ? Did you see that the trades are going to have a reboot? Do you have any thoughts on this?

I am!! My very first (and enduring) comic love and the reason I later began reading manga&comics.

I saw the info of the reboot too! I have to say, I don't like what little I've seen of the art style so far. It reminds me of the attempted (botched&cancelled) manga version in all the bad ways, it feels... without personality (and they're going against Barbucci&Canepa, COME ON!) and Elyon's redesign I just saw right here on tumblr (look in the tag!) made me go "WHO are you, impostor?!"

Still, I've preordered the issue and despite my reservations I hope it will be a good story and wish the team the best.

If I end up not liking it, no one's taking away my -most treasured- original, and perhaps eventual new fans of the reboot will be drawn to the original. I just hope the current italian reprint in volumes will cover up to Arc 5, I'd hate having to resort to buying the US version.

Okay, I've cooled down on the whole situation and now there's going to be a fresh take on the Scarlett Lady comic by Zoe-oneesama.

Again, I believe that this comic brings almost nothing new to the table except for a few points (if I forgot something, write in the comments, I don't bite):

1) Chloe has a ladybug miraculous, Marinette has a bee miraculous. A swap, so to speak;

2) All of Marinette's acumatizations and mistakes fell on Chloe's shoulders;

3) Cat Noir is the future heir to the box of wonders;

4) Lila and Zoe are swapped (Lila is immediately accepted and Zoe is not);

5) Zoe is really worried about her sister;

6) Sabrina quickly stopped being friends with Chloe;

7) Chloe's redemption arc is removed;

8) Master Fu shows up more often.

Now to the minuses:

1) All of Marinette's acumatization went to Chloe;

2) The author of the comic for some reason decided to make Audrey follow (I mean interested in) Chloe, even though in canon she didn't care about her. In the canon such indifference is appropriate, because Audrey is not interested in her own daughter at all. And here it's unclear whether Audrey is interested in her daughter or not;

3) To me, the title of the comic doesn't reflect the whole point. I think it could have been called "Marigold and Scarlett Lady's Confrontation" if it was necessary to emphasize the fact that Chloe has a ladybug miraculous or "Marigold and Cat Noir's Adventure" and so on;

4) Idealized Marinette (i.e., unlike the series, she is 100% Mary-Sue here). If the author doesn't like Chloe, I think she could have tried to work on Marinette's development, since she doesn't develop in the series;

5) For some reason it is Chloe who is obsessed with Adrian, even stalking him like Marinette in the series. Yes, in the series, Chloe is crazy about Adrian too, but not to that extent;

6) Characters change clothes as often as they breathe (not a direct minus);

7) A lot of people say that, like, the comic is more logical than the series. Well, a little bit. However, it seems to me that if the comic was more logical, the characters would have realized that Chloe is Scarlett Lady somewhere in season 3, if only by her behavior and how often Chloe wasn't in some places (also don't forget that Chloe mentions that Scarlett Lady is her friend, which is a fat hint that she is Scarlett Lady);

8) This is not a minus, but more of a reproach. The comic is too much based on the TV series, I would have liked new akumatized villains or situations.

There are, of course, pluses, otherwise Zoe-oneesama wouldn't have so many readers:

1) Eye-pleasing drawings. The author clearly tried hard;

2) Lila and Sabrina have become superheroes (their costumes are pretty cute);

3) Cat Noir is the leader and I like that better than in the series;

4) Lila was accepted and became part of the class (as a Lila fan this fact makes me happy);

5) Some things in canon are explained;

6) Characters change clothes (I'm happy with this fact, because in the same "W.I.T.C.H." the main characters changed clothes often).

But still, I don't particularly understand why Zoe-oneesan would dedicate a comic to Chloe if she kind of doesn't like her? And it hurts that the comic is popular, unlike the others.

P.S. I’m putting an end to this comic and won’t discuss it anymore.

That is, dear Zoe, you want to accuse a child of racism, while turning a blind eye to the fact that the animated series is full of it? And also deny that Chloe didn't have a redemption arc? You have a clinic, dear.

Chloe's redemption arc WAS, and was the BEST OF THE SERIES. Chloe developed and apologized. I won’t even read your reposted post, because it’s clear that you will look for everything rotten in Chloe, and not close it.

I repeat, Chloe, like Marinette, is 14 years old. Only Chloe is not being sold, but Marinette is.

That is, you are even ready to whitewash Audrey, who in fact is a terrible person, not only in relation to her daughter, but also to others, and expose the teenager as a monster and a villain in the comic?

Sorry, I think you're one of those people who thinks Chloe is worse than Hawkmoth.

We are talking about the comic "The Scarlet Lady" and I strongly advise you not to read it, because the author himself will laugh at you if you love Chloe. And the comic itself brings literally nothing new, even though the characters change clothes almost every episode.

The comic is literally about the fact that Chloe is given all the negative traits from Marinette, even her very stalkerism and about the next praise of Marinette.

I think Zoe and Thomas Astruc would get along well.

finished the first season of sailor moon! (except the six episodes I skipped, which I plan go to back for soon.) some thoughts:

I’ve been putting together a spreadsheet about different significance levels for different episodes, but it’s honestly pretty unnecessary. the important thing is watching episodes 1, 3, and 8 to get a proper idea of the longer-term direction, even if that means skipping or delaying ones between them. if you do like it, you may as well just go straight through otherwise

only episodes I skipped were 4, 5, 7, 16, 17, and 18. I liked all the ones I watched other than the first two, and I’m planning on rewatching those alongside the ones I skipped to see if they’re better now anyway

in general I liked the middle parts of the season the most, in particular the nephrite and zoisite arcs

definitely feel like I now have a better understanding of the influence on later shows like utena, W.I.T.C.H., she-ra, and miraculous ladybug

this one season was about as long as the entirety of the first three of those shows, and if I didn’t already know there was a bunch more I would definitely have expected that to be a series finale

favorite character: zoisite (wonderful and also terrible)

least favorite character: tuxedo mask (steals the spotlight from more interesting characters, particularly early on)

all the sailor guardians are great in their own ways. for example, ami is delightful because she’s the best, while rei is delightful because she’s the worst

in general, a lot of fun as long as you’re on board with it being a bit slow at times and the characters often being Very Dumb

also even before getting to the characters I’d heard specific talk about, surprisingly queer for a 90s show

definitely continuing to the later seasons but probably in a month or two since I have other things I need to do and binging this for two weeks has been eating all my time
