Another thing that really hit me about the barbie movie is when Ken is in the real world and sees all the pictures of presidents, who all look like him, and that's so wild to him!

I remember in elementary school we were talking about the presidents and it was brought up how all of the presidents were men, and how boys could look up to that and see themselves. But girls could easily see that and go 'presidents are men, so I can never do that'.

It's a small thing that I just think shows how much representation matters. You can say it's not important all you want, but to a kid with a little spongey brain who has to fill in the blanks by themselves, it can mean so so much. Most of the time, no one is there to tell them "they're all men, but women can do it too!" And if they aren't told that, the brain makes any connections it can. It's still trying to figure all this out!

Anyway I saw the movie like a month ago and I have not stopped thinking about it the barbiexgloria ao3 is all that's keeping me going
