!NEW ARTWORK! The Badb Catha (Battle Crow) is one of three iterations of war goddess collectively known as the Morrigna. The Morrigna are mentioned throughout Irish mythology and are said to foreshadow death and influence fate and the outcome of battles. The Battle Crow in particular is associated with striking fear and confusion in soldiers engaging in battle. The Morrigna are a prominent and terrifying motif in ancient Celtic mythology. Ravens and crows are prevalent throughout many ancient mythologies and are often associated with war, death, and premonition. This common theme across cultures is most likely because of Crows’ propensity for feasting on the dead flesh of fallen soldiers. However, another interesting theory indicates that these birds are so intelligent that they learned to recognize when a battle was about to begin from the formation of troops, etc, and then gather above/near the battlefield seemingly predicting the coming fighting and death. This is what gave them their seemingly prophetic abilities. AITA for trying to save my parent from death?

I (its complicated M) am the child of an extremely powerful Hero. They disappeared early on in my life, and so I dedicated myself to trying to find them. Most of the factions were EXTREMELY unhelpful and attempted to kill me during my quest, so eventually I wrote them off as violent extremists.

Eventually I found my parent but found that they were fighting an extremely powerful monster while allying with the other violent factions, I swooped in to save them (I have grown VERY COOL and powerful in my adventures) and told them to side with me. They accused me of trying to grab power and attacked me, so I fought them down and captured them to join my army that I'm using to pacify the world. After all its clear that their friends are going to get them majorly hurt!

After several confrontations and escapes they got mad at me and told me that I'm planning genocide and that I am a monster. When it came out that I am their son they only seemed to get really sad and now them and their evil violent friends are calling me a 'threat to the world' even though I'm just trying to save them from their future death??? AITA?

Loved getting to draw them especially since I’ve been planning to for a while, but I was waiting to get refs for a set of four that are preferably linked in some way. And in this case it worked out perfectly because I got links and a fun contrast too. Lalita and Neith being a mother and daughter duo and goddesses of Fate and Life, while on the flipside we have our dark archmage and wargoddess Eska and her regent, Atrax. The four of them are even further linked through close friendships and near familial bonds, some more closely than others. I think Lalita and Atrax are the only pair who don’t have a direct bond, but they’re all in the same circles. I am also happy it ended up being these four in particular because I know they are dearest to my friend and so I am happy I got to finally draw them all <3

15 Days of Deity: Baduhenna

Day 6: Relations to other Gods.

Historically we don’t know of any relations that Baduhenna might have had. But I see her as a cousin, or possibly daughter, of the Morrigan. Because of her link between the Wargoddesses of the Isles and the Valkyries on the mainland, I also link her to Freyja. I know that the idea of Freyja as the “Queen of the Valkyries” has no basis in myth. And yet…

Day 7: Offerings

Once again we know nothing of any historical offerings that might have been given. Though, if she was a deity of war before the uprising of the Frisians, weapons would have been a logical offering. My ideas for offerings:

red meat (though I am a vegetarian)

My portrait of a character known as “The Morrígan.” The Morrígan is a really interesting and mysterious figure throughout the Irish mythological cycles. The Morrígan is mainly associated with war and fate, especially with foretelling doom, death or victory in battle. In this role she often appears as a crow, the badb. She incites warriors to battle and can help bring about victory over their enemies.
