So my opinions on all the Dead Boy Detective/DBDA Characters

All of these are opinions as someone who has watched the show a few times now and also the Doom Patrol episode and I’ll give my opinions on the Doom Patrol versions at the end.

Spoilers for Dead Boy Detectives Show. And Doom Patrol season 3 ep. 3 and that episode alone

Charles Rowland

- Charles is such a sweetheart I love him. He’s always looking out for his friends and literally went to hell for Edwin, and kicked the Night Nurse for him. I just love him so much.

- I felt so bad for him in episode one when he says his dad, “wasn’t the nicest guy,” and in episode three when we see him break being forced to see a father k!ll his family over. I was actually crying with him saying he doesn’t “want to be a bad guy”! It broke me so badly, the abuse he went through and the fear he’ll become like his abusers is a very real thing and to see a character go through that makes the story feel more real, and makes me more sad. He could use some therapy.

- Him being the “brawn” of the team is pretty funny to me but thats most because if you watch the cast interactions you’ll see what I mean.

- All in all, I love him. He is loving, protective, loyal and has golden retriever with attachment issues energy mixed with scary dog privilege but the dog isn’t scary unless provoked.

Edwin Paine/Payne

- Adorable, get him some therapy please! He needs it! Man was so repressed for the first part of this show I thought I’d die before he confessed. But I don’t blame him honestly, his death was traumatic and being called a “Mary Ann” whilst being sacrificed likely would put a bad taste in your mouth about the idea of you being queer in any way shape or form. I am so proud of him good job!

- Honestly he just makes me so happy, and I love how he interacts with everyone and grows!

Crystal Palace

- I love her she is so bad ass and I hope wish the best for her

- She needs better taste in men, my suggestion date women

- I want to see a little more of her Nepo baby side of her past cause clearly that was a thing

Niko Sasaki

- Sweetie! I miss her! She was the only other person other than Charles to get Edwin out of his shell and it hurts me so much to see her be gone. Her death will forever haunt me.

Cat King

- I love him so much, he is my favourite kind of not evil but not good guy the kind that plays a game with people by flirting! Ahhh I love him! I don’t love that he falls for Edwin(I’ll make a separate post on this issue)

- Anywho I still love him he gives off chaotic gender neutral vibes and the song Sex With a Ghost was made for him, I just love him!

Monty the Crow

- Monty I love you but don’t kiss people without consent!

- Honestly he was very important, and sweet he didn’t deserve all the pain he’s been through, may better things come his way.

Jenny the Butcher

- Badass. I love everything about her. Her style, the way she gives advice, yes I just love her so much. I want to see more of her.

- Her episode made me so sad for her ;-;

Esther Finch

- Honestly I love her as a villain she was so evil, and a genuine threat. She is also so hot and scary I just love her.

David the Demon

- A creep I didn’t like him, I don’t know what else you want?

Doom Patrol versions!

Charles Rowland

- He was so funny in this, I loved him. I love how the show conveyed a mutual interest from him to Edwin they are both just too dense to say anything about it. I also love that it seems the only thing he knows about America is that they like baseball.

- They did have to go off and hurt me with the fear of water scene, but he was so sweet protecting Edwin from the Night Nurse(who in this is just 10 times scarier)

Edwin Paine

- Him not getting anything about modern times and brushing off his feelings for Edwin was so well done! I love how he tells Larry he “isn’t like him” saying he isn’t queer and that if he were that would be bad, he says this all in a very rude and brash tone and then proceeds to comfort Charles in the nicest to he is capable of.

- Beautiful 10/10

Crystal Palace

- Boss ass Bitch, girl boss. 8/10 I love her but no real opinions yet that is I may go back one day and edit this for her

About Dead Boy Detectives getting renewed or not. I know people may have cast judgement on this show already, or maybe watched the first ep and deemed it not for them for various reasons (the first ep is a bit clunky and full of exposition) but I promise you, hand on heart, that if you watch the series through to the end it will have you hooked.

If you are generally a fan of fantasy genre shows, loved Supernatural, Good Omens, The Sandman, and all those CW shows that were so popular back in the day, then I promise you I PROMISE YOU you will LOVE Dead Boy Detectives.

If you're still indecisive about it, not sure you want to commit to a show that may get cancelled again, or are generally put off by a show about teenagers (though NGL these are CW style teenagers aka twentysomethings lbr) then I beg you to give it a chance.

If you were a Lockwood & Co fan who is still bitter about its cancellation and views DBDA as a glorified replacement, I promise you are wrong. The premises for the two shows are actually very different. I've seen both and DBDA is definitely worth your time.

It keeps getting better and better every episode and by episode 7 you'll be so blown away you'll be desperate for another season, just like EVERYONE who has watched it through.

I havent yet come across a person who watched the whole show and came out thinking eh it was alright but nothing special. No. EVERYONE who watches it to the end raves about how wonderful it was.

PLEASE give it a chance. PLEASE watch it through. Its such a good series and it deserves renewal.

Please spread this post, please scream about DBDA as much as possible. Please encourage your friends to watch it.

This show is an absolute precious gemstone in an ocean of mediocre television. Please give it a chance

The little scene after hell on the rooftop is underrated actually! The way Charles glances at him and smiles is soo... not flirtatious exactly but idk. he has just found out that Edwin, who he thinks is the best person in the world, loves him. And I think it makes Charles really happy, knowing that Edwin is in love with him, even if Charles himself is still figuring out his own feelings. It's like that incredulous feeling of 'holy shit what did I ever do to make this incredible person fall in love with me?', and that's why he glances away almost shyly and looks like he can't stop himself from smiling to himself.

And he's SO quick to tell Edwin it didn't make things uncomfortable/awkward/whatever Edwin was planning to say, like he actually cuts off Edwin's words! Like he's saying he's the opposite of uncomfortable with it, and he looks so pleased and happy and a little shy and yes, in love in that moment. I think he loves that Edwin is in love with him (which in time he'll realise is a good indication that he loves Edwin back). ❤️

DEAD BOY DETECTIVES’ VIEWERSHIP.

So, most fans have seen the viewership and are rightfully panicking, I even started panicking until I realized there’s still some hope. Even if it’s just a tiny bit of hope, we need it and need to spread it around for people to watch it since that’s the main reason why people aren’t watching the show. So I’ll be giving you some reasons to have some hope, with graphs and numbers and all that jazz.

These are the graphs for the first three weeks, the show started with 3.1 million views raised to 7.7 million in the next week before it got to 8.8 million views in the third week. With all of the new viewers that I’ve seen on social media and countless watch parties, the viewership should’ve risen since then. And also the fact that Netflix doesn’t only renew shows based on views, but also from the completion rates of the show.

I believe this graph is from a while ago, but it shows how shows with lower completion rates don’t get renewed unless they have a higher viewership. So please, complete the show in its entirety and tell people you are recommending the show to. (don’t skip to your favorite scenes during rewatches)

Now onto the next point of the fact that Dead Boy Detectives is under DC and a spin-off series of Sandman, as you can see in the graph, this is the hours viewed and it’s a show called Sweet Tooth and how it’s lower in the hours compared to Dead Boy Detectives. But despite that, it has been renewed for a second season and I heard about a third season too. So once again, watching the show to completion matters.

The FINAL point is from Wikipedia but can proven on Netflix’s official website. Despite the show being removed from the Top 10, it’s mainly due to older shows coming out with newer seasons and limited series on Netflix. But, as you can see, the viewing hours are very high. And that can also be helped with more watch parties and more people telling their friends about the show. And so, from Friday to Sunday, there will be a mass watching for the show for old and NEW viewers, so tell your friends, and family about the show and spread the word about this mass binge-watch of the show!

Guys guys guys I am literally BEGGING y’all to watch dead boy detectives like. This show has EVERYTHING!! Without spoilers, we’ve got:

A terrifically repressed Edwardian ghost (he’s my fave he’s worryingly relatable I want to kill him affectionately)

His best friend- who happens to be yet ANOTHER emotionally repressed ghost with a near-permanent smile and no impulse control

An adorably bitchy psychic who shows up in episode one and is IMMEDIATELY there to stay

A very good-omens-y plot point about the afterlife being some kinda bureaucracy

An incredibly sexy and RIDICULOUSLY pissed-off witch

The most INCREDIBLE relationships between characters- ESPECIALLY the developing platonic relationships

FAR too many emotions for me to be okay with

A RIDICULOUSLY addictive plot tbh. Like. Watched this last week and I’m still thinking about it 24/7

So erm. In conclusion, YOU WILL NOT REGRET WATCHING. (Also the more ppl who watch it the more likely we are to get a season 2 so. PLEASE.)
