You'll Have to Go Through Me
We're at a point where I strongly recommend not reading this until after working your way through the entirety of Doc's Misadventures beginning, of course with Touch Starved!
There are still some slots left for the 400 follower celebration. I'll be bouncing between Doc fics and reader oc fics bit by bit (though, I can't really stop mid arc for brain reasons, so you'll get part 2 of this fic before I pop back into Asks)
Last head's up: Given my last fics weren't Doc fics, I didn't start this yet, but after today, I'll be reducing my tag list. If folks haven't interacted in some way for a few fics, I'm going to stop tagging you. Because Tumblr just can't do things easily for me, I frequently hand type my entire list, so if yuh want me to take the time to tag you, ya'll have to give me something back so I know I'm not tagging people who've lost interest or aren't even on here anymore. To all my lovelies who silently reblog: I adore you and you can do no wrong in this world! To those of you who frequently comment/chat with me about this crazy little world I accidentally made: I would happily burn the world to see you smile
Warnings: Lots of heavy emotions in this one - angst, guilt, angry, blame, got some profanity in there, and reference to child soldiers kinda

There was a rumor that the Kaminoan’s eyes could see colors humans simply couldn’t; that everything from the unblemished armor of shinies to the very reports endlessly updating on their communicators was overlaid with additional data invisible to those deemed a “lesser race.” That rumor left the identical, monotone halls of their cities feeling even more unwelcoming; as though secrets laid all around me, taunting my every step in some undeniable proof that their prejudiced beliefs held a merit I would never be able to fight, but I couldn’t bring myself to care about that anymore.
I roamed those immaculate halls aimlessly, purely for the want of letting myself get lost in them. The need to hide, to flee despite there being nowhere I could run drove me to wander endlessly through the most distant corridors, blindly staring at barracks that had long since been left abandoned as the production of clones lessened with every day that passed. Once, each of the countless rooms around me had been home to cadets too young to understand the horrors awaiting them, and I bleakly wondered how many of those children were now lost to the never-ending demand for sacrifice towards a goal that seemed just as distance now as it had during that very first battle.
I’d nearly walked past him, utterly oblivious to his presence until his helm shifted just enough to catch my attention, and, with a sharp gasp, I was ripped from the illusioned reprieve of my thoughts.
“Kriff!” The curse hissed through clenched teeth, wide eyes locking on the lithe figure leaning silently against the tiny inlet of a doorframe. That silence lingered until my panic withered into that too familiar dread, air catching in my lungs as I stood frozen before him.
“We’re leaving in an hour. Hunter sent you a com.” He stated, and I nearly broke from the chill in his raspy voice.
“I… I haven’t read it, yet…” I finally admitted, jaw stiff. I’d remembered how my heart had dropped at the alert for the incoming message, certain I’d find orders detailing my reassignment lingering within, and I hadn’t been able to bring myself to look. Crosshair said nothing for a long moment, and I had to fight the nervous dance of my fingers. Without another word, he turned and began to walk away, and a new panic overwhelmed me.
“Wait!” I gasped, body stealing a half-step toward him before locking up once more. He paused, but didn’t turn back, and I could feel something on the verge of shattering within me.
“I thought you said you didn’t regret it.” It was quiet, as though whispering those words might hide the hurt in them, and the air fled me in a shuttered exhale.
“I…” My throat locked around that choked word, and I cursed myself for faltering when I so desperately wanted to offer him some hint of reassurance, but I could only stare as his shoulders sank before starting through those sickeningly pristine halls once more.
“Wait…” I begged, voice barely audible, but he didn’t stop, and finally, my body remembered itself. “Wait! Wait, dammit! I don’t regret being with you!” I shouted, racing forward to cut him off. He said nothing as he stared down at me, that emotionless visor offering nothing of the warmth with which he’d looked at me just days prior, and I could feel myself wilt beneath it. Letting out a carefully controlled exhale, I reached up to remove my own helmet, robbing myself of what protection that barrier feigned to lay myself bare before him.
“They… they can’t even look at me, Crosshair…” I whispered, and I could see the dark circles beneath my eyes in the sliver of my reflection, “and I don’t… I don’t know how to deal with that.” I couldn’t breathe as I waited anxiously for some manner of response. When he finally began to move, that need surged anew within me, and I could only watch as his hand slowly reached up to trail lightly along my jaw until his palm rested against my cheek.
“I told you they’d figure it out.” A short scoff escaped me, and I couldn’t keep myself from shifting further into his touch. My lips parted, breath catching with the beginnings of speech, but I felt the words abandon me, too weary to force out a response. Instead, I let myself grasp his hand reverently between both of mine and turned just enough to press my lips firmly against his gloved palm, fingers tightening with a desperation I couldn’t risk giving voice as I listened to the air leave him in a slow sigh. Without a word, he pulled his hand away and wrapped his arms around me. I didn’t hesitate, eagerly pressing myself against him for that familiar comfort of his embrace.
“Every time that damn com went off…” I whispered hiding against the rigid planes of his chest plate as sobs vied to rob even those strained words from me, “I was so sure it was an alert that I’d been reassigned…” and, I couldn’t fight back the tiny hitch of a sob as his arms tightened.
“That’s not going to happen.” A hopeless huff of laughter escaped me, but when he called my name, I found my gaze automatically turning up to his, and I couldn’t bring myself to doubt him. “Just give them some time… Please.” How could I not yield beneath the raw need in his voice? I barely noticed the way my head subtly nodded against him, but that didn’t diminish the truth of the gesture. Of course, I would give them time. I would grant them as long as they needed regardless the way my heart twisted at the mere thought of subjecting myself to the terrible quiet they fell into at the very threat of my presence… I knew I could never leave them… any of them… not unless they told me to… I’d promised.
-
I’d hidden away in those abandoned halls for three days before he’d come to find me. Following him back to the hanger had the same taste as an akk dog being dragged home from the pound, and I couldn’t keep my gaze from studying the metal ramp below as we eventually reached the Marauder. I’d finally glanced at my datapad as we walked and found myself wishing I hadn’t. There were only two lines of text in that initial com: the time of the mission brief, which I’d missed, and the time we were meant to leave, which we only barely made it back by. A subsequent message appeared to summarize that brief, but I didn’t have time to more than open it.
As soon as the ramp locked into place, Crosshair pulled off his helmet and stored it in his gun locker. I started to do the same, but paused at the sudden quiet that stole through him once I’d removed my bucket, fingers absently shifting over the ridge where padding covered the unyielding plastoid. He said nothing as he stepped toward me, but I melted at the first feel of his hand slipping up the back of my neck to just tangle into the base of my hair as his lips pressed against my forehead. He held me like that until the ship began to rise, and then he left, silently disappearing into the cockpit where, I assumed, the rest of his brothers waited.
I knew those little moments of softness were, in part, merely an effort to distract me from the guilt ceaselessly twisting through my chest, but that realization didn’t lessen the warmth they granted me. I’d always believed there was more to him than the snarky, eternally unimpressed persona he so loved to flaunt about, but to find myself the subject of such gentle affection was something I would never weary of.
Finding myself alienated from his brothers, however, was a sorrow that contrasted so starkly with the thrill that lingered after Crosshair’s touch that I was left in a place of violently conflicting wants and regrets each too overwhelming to allow even a moment’s understanding of any one emotion. Part of me wanted to follow him, to plead some ignorance that the easy dynamic we’d fallen into hadn’t been shattered so effortlessly, but I couldn’t.
Images of the detached distance in Hunter’s eyes when he’d last looked at me sent me, instead, to the small kitchenette if only to busy myself with restocking menial items in some useless plight to distract myself. When those heavy footsteps sounded from down the hall, however, I found myself regretting that decision, despite how I loathed the thought of hiding away in the medbay again, but my heart raced at the thought of Wrecker coming to a sharp halt at the doorway, at the awkward silence that would fall as he tried to make some excuse to flee, and the coming devastation that would bring me.
I didn’t turn to him when he stopped just outside, attention carefully turned away from him to grant an easier escape, but he didn’t move. After a few tense seconds, I glanced hesitantly toward him, and found myself frozen at the quiet in those mismatched eyes as he looked at me.
“I was worried you weren’t coming back.” He murmured, and I had to turn away for a moment, lungs straining to draw in a steady breath before I could answer him.
“I was worried you might not want me to.” His broad shoulders dropped, automatically taking several steps nearer to me before catching himself.
“Of course, we do!” He said quickly, voice vainly forced into something of a hushed whisper. “It’s just… it’s hard, I guess… different… but that don’t mean we don’t want you around! Just… gotta figure out how everything fits, now, I guess…” Relief and turmoil warred through me as he stammered to explain, and I had to catch my lip between my teeth at the question that followed. “Is that why you stayed away?”
“I think… I think I was trying to figure out how things fit, too…” I answered, stumbling over the same inadequacy of spoken word to touch on the chaos and doubt that led me to wander those abandoned halls.
“… Crosshair… he makes you happy?” He asked suddenly, and my gaze instantly darted back up to find his focus staring blindly toward the too-small table meant to house half the number we’d so often crammed around it.
“… yeah… he does” I hated the hesitation in my voice, and found myself wanting to say more; to offer some promise that… that what? That it wasn’t that Wrecker didn’t make me happy? That the whirlwind of emotions storming relentlessly through me was so devastatingly confusing that I couldn’t begin to sort through them? That I had to bite my tongue to keep from begging him not to hate me? Trapped in that indecision, I allowed myself to say nothing at all, and his response nearly brought me to tears.
“That’s good.” There was still a subtle edge of sorrow in his voice, but I couldn’t doubt the sincerity of his words, which made them all the more painful to hear. “Things have been… hard lately - guess they always are, but… you and Cross… Yuh both needed something to be happy about. So, I’m happy for yuh… Just… sorry it took me a while to figure that out.”
My breath fled me in a broken sigh, and I instantly threw myself toward him, arms locking around his shoulders as my face hid against his neck. I felt him automatically move to return the embrace before freezing, body tense.
“Uh… is…” He stammered hesitantly. “Is it, yuh know… okay for me to-to hug yuh?” The laughter that escaped me sounded too akin to a sob, and I held him even tighter for it.
“Of course, it’s okay for you to hug me.” I said, voice dropping back into a whisper lest the words break, and some of that crippling weight finally slipped from my shoulders as he readily locked me against him.
“You look at the briefing, yet?” He asked after I finally released him, and I couldn’t help but notice the trace of tension hidden beneath that boisterous excitement.
“Not yet,” I replied, watching him carefully though I tried to keep the hesitation from my voice, “I was planning to read over it tonight. What’s the mission?”
“Just stealin’ files off’a some fancy database, but after I get to blow the whole thing up so they can’t figure out what we took!” There was an overzealousness to his too-quick response, a nervousness that I doubted many others would note, but I knew him, and, when I reached for my datapad to finally look through the message, I wasn’t surprised to hear the way his breath caught slightly in his throat. It took only a brief glance to understand why, and whatever traces of guilt within me went silent beneath my sudden rage.
“Hunter!” I shouted, already storming around Wrecker, blind to the way his face pulled into a barely restrained cringe. Two data ports needed to be spliced simultaneously at opposite sides of a large compound on an isolated world recently lost to Separatist forces. Crosshair was being dropped off on a nearby cliffside to provide cover and report troop movement, while Wrecker would begin placing munitions strategically throughout the facility. Hunter and Tech would infiltrate the northern port, and Echo the southern one nearest Crosshair’s position. Meanwhile, I was meant to remain on the Marauder as “backup”.
“What the kriff is this?!” I snapped. He was just cresting the cockpit ladder as I approached with my datapad clutched in my hand.
“If you’d been at the briefing, you wouldn’t be asking that.” He retorted, arms crossing over his chest as he stared down at me.
“Oh kriff you, Hunter!” I snarled, numb to the hurt I knew I should have felt at the feigned impatience in those eyes. His brow twitched briefly together, but he offered no further response. “You’re leaving Echo practically defenseless!”
“Echo is an arc trooper. He’s more than capable of taking care of himself.” He replied blankly.
“Not when he’s plugged in!” My words reverberated slightly against the metal walls, and some part of me wanted to feel guilty for how his sensitive hearing surely ached because of it, but I couldn’t stop myself. “The instant he’s connected, his reaction time-”
“Is still better than yours.” He interrupted harshly. My jaw snapped shut, heart pounding against my chest as he began walking toward me, movements slowed beneath a purposeful intent, exhibiting every ounce of the intimidating, elite soldier he’d been painstakingly created to encompass, but my anger, my dread that something would happen, that his benching me might cost his life or the life of one of his brothers forbade me from yielding, from feeling even a whisper of fear as I stared him down.
“Until we figure this out, you’re a liability. I can’t have them distracted out there in the middle of a mission just because you don’t want to feel left out.” He continued, voice sharp, and I wanted to spit at the word ‘they,’ balking at the vain implication that he’d managed to convince any one of us that he was somehow unaffected. “Unless you want to go running off somewhere again, we can try to figure this out after, but we’re set to land in four hours, and I’m not spending that time playing mediator when we need to be focused on not getting killed.”
Later, the silence that fell between us would break me. Later, I would remember the way my hands clenched into fists as I glared at the man before me with an animosity that, just days prior, I would have thought impossible. Later, I would remember that I was to blame for the crippling discordance that so effortlessly brought our unbreakable family to ruin. In that moment, however, I wanted to hurt him for all the ways I was hurting, and I hated myself for it.
“This is a mistake, Hunter.” The words left in a strained growl, teeth clacking as my jaw snapped around his name. “You know that… and it’s going get one of them killed.” His lips tensed with the beginnings of a scowl just as his attention shifted ever so slightly behind him.
I couldn’t hear what was said, but I held no doubt that that was the intent, that one of his brothers had murmured some warning or plea before he could offer whatever justifiably harsh retort lay seething atop his tongue, and I was glad I couldn’t hear them. If it was Crosshair, would I have lashed out against his attempt to protect me? If I’d heard Tech recant some psychological study dismissing my concerns in favor of Hunter’s logic, would I have yelled at him with that same vehemence? Or if Echo… I couldn’t… I couldn’t do this… I couldn’t breathe beneath the sudden certainty that I was alone in that moment… that I had no one to turn to as my thoughts cascaded into a darkness I feared would consume me.
Gaze falling to metal flooring forever stained with oil and grime and far too much blood as my chest tightened into a vise around my heart, I found myself frozen for a mere second longer before turning away from him. He made no effort to stop me. I didn’t think I could have stopped even if he had. I needed to think… no… I needed to run; to hide… I needed to escape the unspoken accusation in his eyes. I needed to escape the nightmare of my own thoughts berating me for each word that fell so thoughtlessly from my lips, the terror that Hunter was right, that I’d turned myself into the deadly distraction I’d so feared becoming all those months back. I needed to escape this faltering reality as the consequences of my own actions threatened to rip my very sense of self from hands I still couldn’t manage to unclench.
It wasn’t until hearing the quiet beep of the medbay’s door denying entry that I even realized I’d locked it behind me, and I instantly knew who stood just beyond that wall of chilled metal. Wrecker would have called out, and I doubted the others were quite ready to speak to me directly yet. I knew it was Crosshair; knew that he stood there waiting to see if I’d yield, but the seconds turned into minutes, and I made no effort to haul myself from where I sat tucked against the corner, fingers tangled into my hair as I merely let myself hurt beneath the weight of everything I’d lost, everything it felt like I was still losing. I heard his fist fall lightly against the door just once before, after a final moment of denial, treading slowly back down the hall.
Look at this adorable FANART!!! - Thank you so much @mythical-illustrator!!

👀👀 I'm curious about the costuming in not me?
(cracking knuckles) let's get into it.
So the main thing I learned in college is:
Costuming is Storytelling.
Costumes should blend into the character themselves, creating a story of where this person has been and where they are going and should be coherent with the directing and acting choices. They should be invisible.
Unless the script specifically uses costumes as symbolic pieces.
The most obvious example of this in Not Me the Series are the button scenes:
Tumblr media
I actually used a somewhat similar device in a show I designed so when I saw these I said OH BITCH so we're using SYMBOLS HUH
These are not only important because they're a part of each other's costumes, but because they're part of each other's ARMOR.
Why armor?
Obviously the costumes in Not Me pull very heavily from classic street punk style. And the first rule of punk style is that your vest is your battle gear. It's what you go to protests in, it's a declaration of war, it's a billboard of all you fight for and exactly who you fight against. That's where they get Black's forever vest right:
Tumblr media
I'm weird. I'm a weirdo. You ever see me without this stupid vest on?
But it's boring. It's uninspired. No patches, no paint, NOTHING. It doesn't tell a story. It's a bland facade of what he's supposed to represent. Now this scene:
Tumblr media
Look at the colors!! The DIY portions! THE PAINTED DENIM! A lot more distressing and customizing went into these pieces, and it goes a long way to humanizing their characters in this moment.
So now we've established that the costumes in Not Me are supposed to be symbols, and we're not supposed to take things at face value. So let's talk about Him...
Tumblr media
I'm weird. I'm a weirdo. You ever see me without this stupid shirt...
Obviously Yok is a walking billboard for Boy Who Dreams of a Life Bigger Than This.
I LOVE his tattoos, even if they're repetitive (crows and also the kanji for crow is a little overkill my man)
Tumblr media
They're a one for one symbol of his hunger for freedom.
Which is why I HATE Black's tattoo.
Tumblr media
What even is that. It's so boring. I'm fully aware that blackwork bars often have symbology attached to them, but the usual meanings make no sense for him to me. Also we couldn't get that bar around his whole arm? Even just a few more inches? For me?
All in all, I am both impressed and confused by the costuming in this show. Why are side characters so richly symbolic, but the main characters are like blank slates? Why use an eagle button when birds are so obviously associated with Yok, not Sean? Why is the BEAUTIFUL street art in this show not also reflected in the clothing? Why doesn't Sean have a back patch done up by Namo?
What I will stand by, and what I will defend to the death in this and any other show is
Limited. Wardrobe.
These people are poor, literally on the run from the law, and living in a car garage or a run down apartment. When I say your battle vest is your battle vest, it's your ONE. You do not lose it, you do not let anyone touch it or borrow it or take it.
(I used to sew patches on vests for biker gangs at my old job and they would refuse to leave the shop while I worked. But that's a whole other storytime)
So when Sean and White exchange buttons, they're exchanged pieces that have never EVER left their person. These are pieces of their souls.
(White might not have gotten it in the moment, but Sean certainly did.)
I've rambled enough, and I hope anyone else found this interesting. Sorry for the essay reply, but i did warn you in those tags 😆 If yall want me to do a silly little analysis of any other BL, let me know 😊 I love crossing my interests.
😘

Sorry I just decided to put this out but it's much easier to analyze this episode in the English dub after a day long break:
SO HERE WE GO!
(Warning some of this is opinionated)
MIRACULOUS ILLUSION REVIEW!
The episode is longer than usual about a minute longer.
The voice actors have gotten more dramatic this Season. A note might be Alec, Mr. Damocleus and XY. Especially Dennis (Damocleus) because he sounds like an 80's cartoon character now-
In the dub the "Daddy" and "Papa" thing is translated into "Dad" which is better than "Daddy" but "Papa" would be nice...
Gabriel cooks French toast instead of pancakes-
Marinette's talking to Adrien without stuttering. This is a real shocker.
Marinette's comrade name is Comrade Béchamel but later in the episode there's an error where she's called "Ketchup" which is Nino's comrade name (Also Alya is Mustard s'cute! ☺️)
Gabriel is being so fake this episode.
Gabriel traumatized Adrien so heccing much to the point Adrien instantly felt guilty and scared for splattering the spaghetti on his suit
Alya’s deadpan voice when she goes into the class- 💀🥲 "Whoops I'm so clumsy... 😑"
KWAMI ABUSE! FRICCIN' KWAMI ABUSE!!! TRIXX IS FOR KID'S NOT GROWN ADULTS GABRIEL!
Poor Trixx
Both transformations are shown. It's a nice little thing I didn't pay much attention to in the French Dub
Gabriel had the most dramatic illusion but not as dramatic as the French dub
I like the French dub though-
So you can see the "magic lightning bolt" Nino was talking about later in the actual shot (how did they fall for that-)
Gabriel (his illusion) apologies to Emilie for being a failure father
"I'VE BEEM GIVEN THE POWER OF TELEPORTION NOW I WILL BE ABLE TO TRAP THEM!" So extra...
"SPOTS ON! YEAH!"
Nino is trying to be so helpful 🥺
"Comrade Ketchup at your service Cat Noir and Ladybu-"
The fight with the illusion is cool
So by now the Collector has been "akumatized" 3 times now.
Gabriel casually explains to the kwami's how he's not gonna fail or tire out because now that he's melted the miraculous he can aquire up to 5 powers at once because he knows they're hoping for him to fail.
Gabriel grants himself the power of invisibility. And let me get this straight you're telling me there's no kwami of invisibility?! Kwami of discretion maybe?
The Lucky Charm is shredded cheese. I only payed attention this time when Chaton said "Plagg would be happy". I think this is the first time they randomly bought him up in mid-battle.
The voyage actually worked probably because the real Gabriel actually used it mid-fall
"There's nothing VISIBLE" -Ladybug 2017
Gabriel dramatically falls-
Gabriel detransformed and they all had a cute moment. Unfortunately this is Gabriel we're talking bout.... so it's all fake-
Why did Alya apologize- she was right what they did was totally wrong. Normally I'd hate her Mammy activity but GIRL!
Nino's so weird around Mr. Agreste
"That's some awesome sauce" LOL Chat Noir I can't!!!
Gabriel and Adrien's family relationship is adorable.... BUT IT'S ALL FAKE!!!
Comrades.... UNITE!
I love Lila but why is she here... why is Alya allowing this...
I just realized this why does Alya still have her Trixx belt bag? To refrain from suspicion or is this just something the animators got too used to-
"Having freinds is like having superpowers" sounds like something Rose would say
Gabriel's plan was... genius actually-
There was a lot of confusion at the post-endcard scene when the episode first came out. It's just Gabriel talking to Tomoe about how they fooled Ladybug and Chat Noir so that they can never figure it out at this point. Tomoe literally just says "Very well. Gabriel-San." MENACINGLY 💀
Overall I'd give the episode a 7/10. It was really fun and set up quite a few things for the season!

PRIDE BEFORE THE FALL \\ @artificeheart // THE WAR DOCTOR & AETHER
THE TIME WAR IS DRAGGING ON. It's been burning on for TWO THOUSAND LONG YEARS- at least, it has been for the time-sensitive races. For races that aren't aware of what The War is- What it's like... what THE LAST GREAT TIME WAR puts men and monsters through-- it's been nothing but a blink-and-you-miss-it moment. The Invisible War, filled with monsters like the Could've Been King, The Nightmare Child, The Neverwhen, the army of NEVERWERES, the DALEKS-- Everything. It's been a nightmare and a half, one that stretches the soul of a man out... THE DOCTOR IS NO MORE. He hasn't been around for quite some time,
IN HIS PLACE, there's been a SOLDIER. Standing next to him- the brightest star a soldier could ask for. Princess of The Celestials: Lumine. She's been fighting this blasted, bloody war for millennia. She's never left his side, she's been with him through everything- she's kept his chin up. The Bandaid across the bridge of his nose has stayed with him ever since she's given it to him. There could've been NO GREATER PLEASURE for her friend, the soldier than to serve alongside her.
AND NOW SHE'S BEEN TAKEN. One last DITCH EFFORT to get one up over him by THE DALEK TIME STRATEGIST- The most feared battle commander in all of The Dalek empire. He was chasing after a group of Daleks- but they've transmatted away. A crude form of teleport yanks them away and he crashes into the dirt, a cloud forming when he scrambles to his fleet- watching the saucer fly off into the air-- "LUMINE!!" He screams until his throat's torn. He doesn't even hesitate. As soon as he sees The Dalek Saucer BLAST OFF Into the air, he heads for The Dusty Old Police Box in the middle of a battlefield. He throws Timelord commanders out of his way, brushes past civilians- slams The Police Box doors closed.
IN THE DALEK SAUCER, The Ship Commander- a Bronze Dalek commanding a squad of lower-level foot soldiers- is barked an alert. "ALERT! ALERT! THE DOCTOR'S TARDIS IS PURSUING US!!" The Dalek ship Commander immediately looks toward some of the view screens- a SPINNING blue Box quickly gaining speed toward them. "BEGIN TEMPORAL SHIFT INTO DALEK TIME CAGE. THE STRATEGIST IS USING THE CELESTIAL TO LOWER THE DOCTOR TOWARD US!!" He shouted, The Other Daleks begin manning the controls- entering feverish inputs that cause THE DALEK SAUCER to fade into a different space.
IN THE TARDIS- The War Doctor moves to feverishly flick controls and twist dials. The Speed he's ramping The TARDIS up causes flicks and sparks to burst off The Console. When he sees The Dalek Time Vessel disappear, he hits the console with his fist- causing more sparks to fly. He twists a knob, "No!! I won't let you get away!! I just need a trace-- a matching biosignature--" He quickly twists the knob. He spins around the console- hitting MULTIPLE switches and knobs. "I'm VERY sorry about this, my friend!! I just need to be able to trace the signal." SENDING A TRANSMAT PULSE THROUGH THE VORTEX IS DANGEROUS-- and pulling something through it is even worse... but The War Doctor can't afford to take ANY risks right now.
WHEN AETHER APPEARS IN THE TARDIS- The Celestial Prince had probably seen tons of shifting timelines and changing divergences in the natural Time Stream. The Prince had been yanked through the Time War, into the eye of the storm- into The Tardis. Meaning they'd seen its full chaos, its full majesty. It's what had driven The War Doctor to become the incarnation he was. When the TEMPORALLY LASSOED Celestial enters The Tardis, The War Doctor immediately moves to him- before Aether even gets up off the floor- and pricks his finger. "Hello!! It's me!! I mean--" He tries as quickly to explain, "I know The Doctor!! We're friends, I mean--" He's panicking. The BioSample will help him track anyone with a matching signature through space-time...
"Lumine's been taken!! I'm sorry if this is moving too fast for you, but I needed a biosample!! The Daleks are taking her to an artificially generated Timeline-- ASK ME LATER!!" He explains as he moves around THE TARDIS CONSOLE ROOM. The War Doctor moves to twist the various levers and switches- everything is moving very fast. The Tardis console room is shaking, fires and wires explode from the ceiling as The War Doctor pushes every MOLECULE he can to try and get the TARDIS engines fast enough to chase after Lumine and The Dalek Time ship-- passing through a TIME BARRIER-- Entering a SHOCKWAVE-- the NEW TIMELINE... The Ones The Dalek has created. They've changed the timeline of one planet, but that's the equivalent of closing off a road of history...
BUT LUMINE'S ON THE OTHER SIDE, and with a matching BIO-SAMPLE in the form of Aether, the TARDIS can pass through in pursuit. They're going to need to crash through at FULL SPEED. "HANG ON, AETHER!! HANG ON!!" The War Doctor cries out, and the RIPPLE OF energy throughout the TARDIS begins to cause the room to fill with red as The War Doctor tries to push a lever up that is REALLY fighting him. It's a power switch. He's trying to fight the resistance of the Temporal Barrier...
                                                                                          "HANG ON!!!!"

This is the end.
You lay on the stone floor atop Utgard castle, gazing at the stars while reminiscing on all the memories you made with your friends.
Everything is becoming too much for you; nobody knows how titans are infiltrating the walls if there's no breach, you still have no idea where Eren, Mikasa, and Armin are, and now you're left with no ODM gear to fight in case titans were to take over your refuge.
You feel completely utterly useless.
"It was a good run," You mutter to yourself, feeling the lump in your throat get stronger.
You're not ready to give it all up, your life as a scout was just about to begin. You've met so many people that mean so much to you, especially him.
You won't ever forget when you first met him; Sasha introduced him as her bestfriend and you instantly fell in love with everything about him; his eyes, his voice, his laugh, and his sense of humor, just everything about him is absolutely perfect.
You continue your search for constellations amongst the stars, trying to distract your mind from the harsh reality.
"Hey." You hear a voice come from the door and you turn to have your eyes meet with golden brown orbs.
It's him.
"Connie." You sit up, moving your legs close to your chest with your jacket spread across them.
You feel your face start to heat up as he gets closer to you. You could never understand why he has such an effect on you, he could do the slightest thing and your heart will always skip a beat.
"Mind if I sit?" He walks towards you, one of his hands scratching the back of his neck.
"Be my guest." You gesture on the empty spot next to you, feeling your heartbeat start to quicken as you immediately catch his scent while he settles in next to you.
You glance down and see that your hands are only an inch maybe centimeters apart; god, how bad you wanted to hold it to make you feel better. You look back up, worried that he may have seen but notice that his gaze is fixated on the stars.
"Beautiful, right?" You move your focus back to the night sky.
Almost as beautiful as him.
"Sure beats this shithole," He chuckles.
"Yeah, it sure does..." You trail off, looking back down to the floor while fidgeting with your fingers.
Silence thickens between the two of you, but not the awkward kind when nobody knows what to say, rather the kind that just wants to savor each other's presence. You enjoy it, worried that if you were to say something you might burst into tears from panic, anger, confusion, and sadness.
“...Christa told me you were up here.” He turns to you, sharing a sympathetic look.
“Yeah, I- um told her I would spend some time here for a bit before sleeping.” You take in a deep breath and rub the back of your neck.
You didn't dare overload Connie with your feelings. It wasn't because you thought he would shove them under the rug or tell you to suck it up, but you were fully aware what he was going through as well.
“We’re going to be okay, you know.” He reads you like a book, seeing through your calm demeanor and knowing you were just a ball of anxiety ready to burst at any moment.
༛༛ ༛ ༛༺༻༛ ༛ ༛༛
"We're going to be okay, you know." Connie laughs, helping you undo your ODM gear.
"Ugh, I wish! This training will be the death of me, I swear." You giggle and place your gear on the table.
You love the way he makes you smile. Even when your body is on the verge of extreme fatigue and exhaustion, he somehow always made you feel a bit better about the whole situation.
"If it makes you feel any better, we're finally having a hot dinner." He places his gear next to yours and you both walk to the dining room.
"As great as that does sound, I just need to get this gunk and sweat off of me." You feel disgusted with yourself, thinking about the number of hours you spent outdoors in the heat.
"Yeah that too, you smell like a Titan just threw up on you," He playfully jokes, already speeding up his pace as he knows what's about to come next.
"Asshole!" You laugh and chase him down the hall.
༛༛ ༛ ༛༺༻༛ ༛ ༛༛
It was strange, you could be on opposite sides of the world, but he always knows if something was bothering you, like an invisible tether always kept the two of you in sync.
“You don't know that, Connie.” Your eyes start to get glossy, looking back up to try and hold back your tears.
You can't understand why everything in your life has to end up so shitty. For once you just want to save lives and be the hero that everyone needed after the Shiganshina incident, but you can't even do that.
“Y/n.” He scoots closer to you, gently pulling your head to his chest as he lightly traces your back.
You hold your breath and become stiff as you hear Connie’s heartbeat. Fuck, you'll never get used to this, no matter how many times it happens. Having him comfort you when everything was going wrong and assuring you not to worry and that it was all going to work out, made you forget all your problems for a moment.
"No regrets though, right?" He lightens up the mood with an inside joke.
"No regrets." You smile and feel yourself melt into his embrace.
You love the way he makes you feel, whether you're upset, sad, frustrated, or maybe just hungry, he always finds a way to make your day not so shitty.
“Why are you doing this?” You ask while you bury your head into his chest, feeling like this is too good to be true.
You feel his chest stop moving and his arm stay still. Silence once again takes over and lingers in the air.
"I mean, after what you found out about your family, I-" He cuts you off.
“I… just really care about you.” And he isn’t lying, he cares about you more than you could imagine.
What you didn't know was that he has been in love with you ever since the day Sasha introduced you as a member of her training squad. He adores everything about you: your voice, your lips, the way your eyes lit up when you ramble about things you're passionate about, and your wits, just everything about you is absolutely perfect.
It didn't take him long to realize he had fallen head over heels for you months ago, but he couldn't tell you. There's no possible way in his eyes for everything to work out if he tells you. He knows the risks of everyone’s lives when it comes to being a scout. He can't bear the thought of becoming more attached to you than he already is and know that he might not have you the next day.
“I care about you too.” You hide your wide grin, relishing this moment for as long as you could.
“Y-You do?” Connie chokes, causing you to pull away and make eye contact.
“Of course I do, why wouldn't I?” You immediately inhale a sharp breath, scared that you may have said something wrong.
‘I need to do it now.’ Connie’s thoughts start to cloud his mind. ‘If this is it, I need her to know.’
“I just… I don't know. Forget it.” He opens up his arm again, inviting you back into his chest.
You brush it off, not wanting to ruin what you already have, and lean back into him. You start copying his breathing, finding comfort that you never thought you would never find again.
You close your eyes for bit, trying your best to memorize everything in the moment. The material of his shirt, his warm skin against yours, the light breeze that hits your face, everything.
“The uh- the moon is beautiful, isn't it?” He quietly stammers, and you immediately feel his heartbeat begin to pound and so does yours.
It can't be.
You know exactly what that means, but does he? Was he just saying that because the full moon that illuminates the hills genuinely looks beautiful? He has to be, right? This night was already beginning to feel like a dream, there’s no way he means what you want it to.
“Yeah, I guess.” You wince as you hear the words fall from your mouth.
You sit in silence yet again, but this time filled with unwanted tension. While your head is spinning with a million thoughts, Connie can't help but feel anger with himself. Why couldn't he just come out and say it? Did you not know what he meant or did you really just reject him?
"It's getting a bit cold, so I'm gonna head inside. You coming?" You put on your jacket, avoiding eye contact to hide the tears that were on the verge of falling down your face.
"Nah, I'm going to um- stay up here a bit." He clears his throat and kees his gaze fixated to the moon.
"Oh alright, well goodnight, Connie." You weakly smile and walk away.
"Goodnight, y/n." He whispers, not loud enough for you to hear.

chapter 138 spoilers
"Y/n, we need to go get Armin, now." Mikasa snaps you out of your thoughts.
"But Connie? He has to be near here somewhere, I-I just know it." Panic sinks in as you scan through the battle of the titan shifters to find your lover.
"Y/N SNAP OUT OF IT!" You slightly jump and turn to her, her face becoming flushed with red.
"Sh- Sorry, right, Armin." You shake your head, covering Mikasa as she makes her way towards the pig-type titan.
It's been 4 years ever since that night on Utgard's castle and you remember every second of it. A day never went by when you didn't think back to that moment and wonder what could've been if you had said something different, but you couldn't and you hate yourself for that.
Nothing changed between the two of you, if anything you feel a lot closer than before. You or Connie never address that night, as if it never happened, and you were somewhat fine with that. It hurts that your gut feeling of him not having feelings for you was accurate, but that's okay, because you would always still have him by your side even if it was just a close friendship.
"Y/N!" You look behind you and see him coming at you at full speed.
"CONNIE!" You feel a bit of weight being lifted off your shoulders, seeing only one visible injury.
He joins you side by side to defend Mikasa, noticing the number of titan shifters making their way towards you was too much for you to handle.
"Are you okay?" Connie defends you as you briskly check the state of your weapons.
༛༛ ༛ ༛༺༻༛ ༛ ༛༛
"Are you okay?" Connie rushes to your side, inspecting the cut on your cheek.
"Yeah, I just have to be more careful with the branches." You wince as you feel his finger graze your injury.
"Well, we're definitely not racing anymore." He looks into your eyes and smiles.
"You're just saying that cause you know I'm better with ODM gear." You giggle and get back up, brushing off the dirt that caught on your equipment.
"You wish!" He blasts off, not giving you a chance to ready up again.
༛༛ ༛ ༛༺༻༛ ༛ ༛༛
"MIKASA HURRY!" Your anxiety starts rushing through you, ignoring Connie's question as you notice your blades were on the verge of giving out.
You see her make a quick glance towards you before zooming towards the titan that trapped Armin and quickly slices his jaw open. Before you know it, you see Connie soar in your peripheral vision to the tongue that entangled Armin and slice him free.
"ANNIE!" Connie screams out, making his way back to you and wrapping his arm around your waist.
You feel the tiny butterflies you always get when he's near you and admire his perfections for a second.
"I'm getting us out of here," He assures you as he looks into your eyes, instantly melting all the worry and panic that stirred up inside you.
"O-Okay." You whisper, the wind harshly hitting your face as Connie moves both of you to the top of Eren's titan, getting Falco's attention.
While Falco flies his way towards you, you gaze upon everything that is going on around you. You start feeling overwhelmed again, too much was going on at once. You see Jean and Pieck trying to make their way towards the Founding Titan's head but get trampled by shifters, Annie holding Armin as he recovers, and Levi and Gabi shooting their gun at every titan.
"What is- is happening?" Your voice cracks and you hang your head low with your eyes shut.
"We should've fucking known ever since Eren decided to infiltrate Marley, but it's okay. We're okay." He gives you a weak smile and a slight squeeze on your waist for reassurance.
Falco reaches the both of you and board his back with Levi and Gabi.
"Are you guys okay?" You can slightly hear the concern in Levi's monotone voice.
"Yeah, we're fine," Connie answers, completely disregarding the gash that was dripping blood on his forehead.
"We need to help Jean and Pieck." You chime in, watching them struggle their way to the neck.
"No, we-" Levi cuts himself off when he hears his name being called out by a familiar male voice.
The five of you see a blonde man with only half a body attached to one of the Founding Titan's ribs.
Zeke.
While you see his lips moving, you can't make out what he's saying. He begins waving around his arms, successfully capturing Levi's attention, but in a blink of an eye, he's dead.
Levi decapitated him.
You hear a slight gasp come from Gabi's mouth and immediately see tears start to swell up. You quickly pull her into a hug, rubbing her back as you try to soothe her.
"It's okay, Gabi. We're okay." You whisper in her ear, slightly rocking back and forth.
While you didn't know or care for Zeke much, you know how much Gabi saw him as another father, an uncle.
"I-I need my- my parents." She hiccups into your chest.
You can't imagine what's going through her mind. All of her plans to become a warrior and making her family proud was all gone. You remember what that felt like, thinking throughout your whole life that titans were your enemy and Eren would be the solution for it all, but you couldn't have been more wrong.
"I promise, I'll get them to you." You bury her head into your chest and stay still, forgetting where you are for a second.
You and Gabi share a weird relationship, especially after everything that happened with Sasha, but you were somewhat like the older sibling she never had. You nurture her when things become too overwhelming or when she was worried someone would kill Falco for her doing. It was strange for you at first, caring for someone who you thought was the enemy, but was really just a twelve year old girl who was taught the wrong things, all to be treated as a 'good Eldian'.
"The- The rumbling stopped." You turn to Connie and furrow your eyebrows.
"Wha-"
"He's right, look." Gabi points to the titans that were completely still in place, but the titan shifters were still moving in battle.
Bizarre.
"JEAN! PIECK! GO!" Levi's yell snaps you out of your thoughts, watching him fly back to Falco's titan.
You feel your heart start to pound and chest begin to tighten. This is the moment that would define the rest of your life. If Jean and Pieck weren't successful, then there's nothing left for you. Everything you and the scouts worked for would be done, ruined, over.
"God, let Jean be okay." You hear Connie mumble under his breath.
"He will." You instinctively grab his hand and give him a slight nod.
He nods back and you both turn back and watch Jean soar to the head with the TNT box. You feel him squeeze your hand, becoming more anxious as seconds passed.
"STUPID LITTLE SUICIDAL BLOCKHEAD," Jean screams at the top of his lungs, before setting off the bomb that decapitated the Founding Titan's head.
You keep your eyes on Jean, making sure that nothing is seriously wrong and to your relief, he's unharmed.
"JEAN," Connie cries out, tears streaming down his face from alleviation.
He immediately pulls you in for a hug, causing your face to start heating up. While this wasn't the first time you and Connie hugged, it always makes you feel like it's your first all over again. You wrap your arms around him, savoring this moment for what thankfully feels like an eternity. You feel his body heat radiate against yours, warming you up from the cold winds that coat you.
In the corner of your eye, you see Reiner struggling with the cord that connects with the Founding Titan's head. Wrapping his arms and slamming it to the base of the ribcage, holding it down for as long as possible.
"Shit, it's going back for the head. ARMIN, NOW," Levi commands, stirring Falco to Jean and Pieck.
God you hate what's about to come next. The loud noise, the bright light, the endless destruction that's always created, and the lost lives were things you loathe to witness.
"JEAN! PIECK! ARMIN'S GOING TO BLOW THESE BONES TO PIECES! WE NEED TO GET AWAY QUICK!" Connie reaches his hand out, pulling both of them onto Falco's back as Annie and Mikasa make their way as well.
"But Reiner-" Pieck cuts Jean off.
"The Armored Titan should be able to withstand the Colossal Titan's explosion. And most of all, Reiner's prepared for the consequences."
Her words feel like a stab in the chest to everyone listening. Even though Reiner was a traitor in the beginning of this mess, it doesn't take away the great memories you made with everyone and the thought of maybe losing him too was a lot to take in.
"She's right, Jean. We need to go." You put a hand on his shoulder, trying to give him some type of support as you hope that your words help you too.
"Y-Yeah, of course." He slightly shakes his head as Falco flies away.
While you're hundreds of feet in the air, all of your eyes are glued to the titan shifters, watching Armin's explosion destroy everything in its way, including the monsters that fought you and your friends. Although the sight wasn't pleasant in the slightest, you can't help but notice the pit that you had in your stomach was gone.
"Is this it?" You weakly smile, feelings of ease and nervousness begin to overpower everything else.
You haven't felt this much hope in years. The deaths of your fallen comrades weren't in vain; it meant something now.
"See, I told you we would be okay, y/n." He wrapped his arms around your shoulders, leaning his head against yours.
༛༛ ༛ ༛༺༻༛ ༛ ༛༛
"See, I told you we would be okay, y/n." Connie grins as you put on your new Survey Corps jacket.
"Geez, I never thought I would ever see the day." You admire yourself, not knowing that Connie's doing the same thing.
You feel nothing but excitement when the leather hits your skin. All the hours, blood, sweat, and tears you put into your training was all worth it. You can finally be the hero you've always wanted to be.
"Well, here we are." He lightly pats your back and chuckles.
"Yeah, here we are." You hand him his new jacket and admire how great he looks as a new scout.
༛༛ ༛ ༛༺༻༛ ༛ ༛༛
"You're always right," You giggle, snaking your arms around his waist and holding him a bit too tightly.
You both bask in each other's presence, enjoying the thought of planning out your new future. As you close your eyes and enjoy the breeze, Connie can't help but adore how perfect you look in his arms. Every time you share a moment like this, he can't help but get flashbacks from that night. He knows how badly he messed up, he should've just straightforwardly said what he always wants to confess to you but he couldn't and he hates himself for that.
He can't recall what number this was for all the times both of your lives were at risk. The times he would forget what his mission was and sought out for you if he lost sight of you. It always takes him back to the same thought, 'You have to tell them before the day comes that you can't.' It's an ongoing battle with his mind and he always comes back to the same conclusion, 'I can't get more attached, not if there's a possibility I could lose them tomorrow.'
But no, this time he feels different, he senses that something's different about this. He suddenly feels queasiness and pulls away from you. 'No, no more hiding it.'
"Is everything okay, Connie?" You feel his body tense up as you give him a concerned look.
"No, it's not, y/n, I've been needing to tell you something, for a while now actually." He scratches the back of his neck and avoids making eye contact.
"What's wrong..?" You trail off, having your mind go a million miles per hour.
"Nothing- Nothing terrible but, y/n-"
"MY PARENTS," Gabi yells out, pointing at the crowd below you.
You and Connie snap out of your conversation, leaning over to the side and see a group of people staring up at Falco.
He lands his titan and Gabi immediately flees into the arms of her parents, Pieck doing the same with her father. You can't help but feel a bit of happiness after all of this, Jean stopped the rumbling, Armin killed off Eren, and all the people you love are safe from this never-ending war.
"We did the right thing, didn't we? I mean with what we did to Eren." You change your focus back to Connie.
"Of course we did, look at the amount of lives we saved, y/n. So, no regrets, right?" He playfully collides his shoulder with yours.
"No regrets." You smile and make your way towards Jean.
Your heart always skips a beat when he says that, you think of it as your own little thing that only you two share. Every time you feel like everything in your life is going wrong, he always reminds you that even if things were to go to shit it would be okay because you have no regrets.
"Can't believe I did that," Jean mumbles, still in a state of shock.
"You did what you had to, Jean." You console him as Connie chimes in.
"Don't bring yourself down, Eren brought this among himself."
You can never forgive Eren for what did over the years. It was apparent from the beginning, but you were to naive and filled with hope to see it. Now, this is different, you lost some of the most important people in your life for his doing. There's no going back from that.
"Y-Yeah, you're right." He brings the two of you in for a group hug, leaving a space in the middle for Sasha.
"She would be proud of us, you know?" You feel a tear run down your cheek as you speak.
Fuck, you miss her so much. All the fun and stupid memories you made with her flash through your mind. All the way back to your first moments meeting her, Connie holding her back from eating all the meat during dinner; to your final moments together, cheering for a successful raid on Liberio.
"She is." Connie corrects you, a smile forms across his face.
"Yeah, she is." Jean starts tearing up, grateful for another day to be alive.
"REINER," Gabi screams, causing the three of you to interrupt your moment and go by the ledge and see something you never thought you would.
You see the centipede that Jean exploded continue to move as if nothing ever affected it. Luckily, Reiner and Armin's titans look unharmed, but you immediately feel the pit in your stomach start to come back.
"See Gabi, he's fine, ever-" Connie gets cut off by another extreme explosion.
You feel nauseous as you see what emerges.
"He-He's alive?" Your voice trembles, all the hope and happiness you just shared obliviates in a second.
Eren's titan.
"No way." Connie gasps, his body starts to shake with fear.
"What do we do now?" Mikasa's voice cracks, wanting everything to come to an end.
You can't believe it. Every fucking time you think that everything will finally work out for you, something always changes. You always end up losing someone, witnessing things that no one should ever be forced to see, and always feel empty in the end.
"We can't let Eren come into contact with the shining thing! Who knows what'll happen!" Gabi tries to pull everyone's focus back into the war and luckily, it works.
"She's right, we have to kill that thing, no matter what." Connie's voice becoming slightly deeper at the end of his sentence.
"Don't you get it? How can we kill a thing that survived Armin's explosion? We need to go for Eren." Levi's command lingers in the air.
"There has to be another way. AGH!" Mikasa starts gasping for air as she starts tightly gripping her head.
Before you could go by Mikasa's side, you notice smoke coming from afar. You don't think much of it, just assuming it was debris from the explosion, but no.
You scan everyone's faces, instantly seeing some of your comrades faces turn into pure terror. This couldn't be what they think it is. This isn't how it's supposed it, how it's supposed to end. It has to be some kind of machine malfunction that's just giving out tons of smoke. It has to be something else than the thing you fear most.
"Isn't this smoke the same thing they did.. at Ragako?" Connie's face becomes overwhelmed with horror and anguish.
"N-No..." You fall to your knees and bury your hands to your face, not being able to come to terms with what's going to happen next.
This is the end.
"Hey, Hey, look at me." Connie's voice never sounding so calm before.
༛༛ ༛ ༛༺༻༛ ༛ ༛༛
"Hey, Hey, look at me." Connie wraps his arms around you as tears cascade down your cheeks and soak his shirt.
"Wh- Why her?" You hiccup, feeling your chest begin to tighten and your head spin from hours of crying.
Your best friend's dead.
You can't hug her anymore, tell her any scouts gossip, or scold her when she stole your food. You can't go to her room in the middle of the night and have her comfort you when your nightmares felt too real. She's gone, forever.
"I wish I had an answer for you... shit-" He starts breaking down right in front of you, both of you begin to cry in each other's arms.
You hate this, fucking hate this. You've dealt with the deaths of your squad members and scouts but nothing like the way you feel right now.
You need to escape, you need to get rid of these awful feelings that were eating you up inside, but no matter how much you may want to escape this shithole with the only person you love, you can't.
"B-But we still have each other, right?" Connie's voice trembles, his grip becoming tighter, thinking if he lets go he'll somehow lose you too.
"Always."

He grabs your chin and leaves your faces just inches apart. All of the yelling and cries drown out as you solely focus on your soulmate.
"No regrets, right?" He wipes your tears away with his thumb.
"No regrets." You barely let a whisper, savoring his embrace one last time.
You feel a hand touch your shoulder and you look up to see Jean, seemingly relaxed.
"So this is how it ends for us." Connie brings Jean into your hug.
"Guess so," Jean replies, acting as if this wasn't the end.
"You know I blame both of you for all this, making me end up with the job of saving humanity." You joke, making the most of your final moment with your best friends.
"Yeah yeah, and take that to your grave." Jean chuckles as he slightly squeezes Connie's shoulder.
Connie glances Jean a confused look, seemingly not aware of the next few seconds. Immediately his eyes widen, finally accepting that this was it for you and him, and he never got to tell you.
"Y/n, there's something I need to tell b-before this is all over. Something I-I should've told you years ago." He speeds up his words, slightly stumbling.
"Yes?" Your heart drops to your stomach and you can't help but wonder if he was going to tell you what you've been waiting for since the day you met him.
"Y/n I-"

Sink or Swim: Kai x Reader [kinda angsty]
-tbh i had a tiny crush on Kai growing up
-i still swoon over him when he's cool but like, lloyd has stolen my heart
-you all live in yang's temple still
-as a note, i write for female readers because uhhh yeah plz don't be mad at me ;-; (and either way, you can always change the words around in your head if it bothers you)
Summary: Kai needs help. You're there for him, catching him before he sinks.
Tumblr media
Kai's got Lloyd, but who's got Kai?
Ninjago was filled with a variety of perils. Some were easier to see, such as destruction of any population within the premises of Ninjago city. Other times, it was minuscule, like a speck of dust. If you looked hard enough without blinking, you could see it. But most times it was invisible.
The sun was bright today, shining past the swiftly moving clouds as you clashed under its heat. Sparks flew as your katana slammed into Cole's, who skillfully parried your blows. You readied another combo, twisting to the right and faking a slash before spinning and striking to the left.
"Cole look out!" shouted Kai. Cole wasn't fast enough, and you knew it was because he wasn't used to using a katana. His hammer lay on the platform leading inside, right by Jay's side under the sunshine.
You suddenly realised Cole would be split in half if you didn't stop. But how could you when the inertia practically sent you flying towarss him? "Cole--!"
Clang!
Kai parried the attack. He hit your blade with so much force that it was sent flying across the courtyard, thankfully, clattering harmlessly on the ground. You heaved out a harsh sigh and slapped your knees. "That was close. Sorry Cole." He chuckled, giving Kai a good slap on the shoulder.
"For once our Hot-Head wasn't distracted by his 'oh-so-perfect' looks." Cole said. "How did you do that so fast?" Kai sheathed his sword with a shrug. It was odd to see him so quiet, especially around this time in the day. His expression remained relaxed, but it was void of its usual smug smirk. "I don't know, I just improvised."
You can't help the frown settling on your lips. There was an edge to Kai's voice, as if he had just returned from an unseen battle between life and death. He looked normal, yet the way he forced out a small laugh made you cringe.
"I'm going inside, think I might shower." he abruptly announced. "Don't train too hard or you might bake in the sun!" You watched as he fiddled with the strap on his sheath, twiddling it and running it between his fingers. He caught your stare and flashed a fleeting smile your way, yet it didn't feel genuine. "Kai--"
He pretended not to hear you and rushed through the temple doors. Your frown deepened. "He looks upset." Jay rested his cheek in his hand with a snort. "I'll say. He looked like he was thinking hard about something."
"But what?" Cole inquired with a sigh. "Nothing's been happening around Ninjago, shouldn't he be happy about it? He can play video games all he wants now, or, I don't know, talk to Skylor on the phone? Morro's gone and Lloyd's fine now." Zane raised doubtful brow. He took a seat by Jay and leaned his head back against one of the supporting beams. It was an odd sight to see everyone so deeply in thought again, especially since none of you should have been deeply in thought in the first place.
"Lloyd has not fully recovered." Zane notes. "He suffers from mental trauma and is regaining his strength as we speak." Nya hummed in agreement. She set her weapon down with a thoughtful nod and leaned against a supporting beam. "I don't know about you, but he seemed kind of sad. Why don't you talk to him (Y/n)?"
"Yeah, you're his girlfriend so you guys share a special connection." piped up Jay. You cam't deny that. Your relationship with Kai was special, so he told you certain things no one else had ever known about him. Whether it be about his past, or even what he dreams for the future, you knew it all.
Well except this.
You stood up, ignoring the low cracks from your aching body. "I'll be back." You pulled open the temple's doors, gently shutting it behind you as you surveyed the vast room. The main hall was empty, save for Sensei Wu who sat at a table drinking tea. He turned to you, eyeing your troubled expression knowingly. "Kai is in his room." he simply stated. You smiled at him gratefully. "Thank you Sensei."
You sprinted up the stairs, caring not if you skipped the creaky steps or walked right over them. It was quite tranquil in the halls of the quiet temple, yet somehow, it made you uncomfortable. "Kai?" You stopped in front of his door. "Kai--"
Sniffling. That was the first thing that caught your ears. Your fingers paused on the door handle, slipping past the cool metal as you continued to listen to the sounds. You knew what crying sounded like, but this? It was earth-shattering. The way he cried sounded exactly like raw agony. It was painful to listen to, yet you couldn't bring yourself to walk away.
If Kai was suffering, you had to be there for him like all the times he had been there for you, or Lloyd, or Nya and Jay and Zane and Cole.
Your fingers wrapped around the door handle. You gently knocked and peeked inside. He sat on his bed with his back facing you. His katana lay on the floor instead of of by his bed or next to his pillow like he usially did.
"Kai?" Your voice came out as a gentle whisper. "Are you okay?" His crying ceased so quickly that if you hadn't been standing outside listening, you would have thought everythimg were your imagination.
"Yeah." he steadily said. "I'm okay. I just needed to take a break after that spar. It got really intense." He laughed. It wasn't a happy one. If you knew what it felt like to have your organs ripped out, you'd describe it as listening to Kai fake his laugh and fake his happiness. He put on a brave face for the world, and perhaps that was because he knew people relied on him to step up when Lloyd couldn't.
You opened the door a little wider and let yourself in, softly closing it behind. "If something's wrong Kai, you can tell me." He sniffled quietly. "No, I'm fine." He laughed; you didn't miss the quiver in his voice. "I'm just a little tired."
"No, it's something else. I won't judge you, promise."
Kai sniffled and grabbed a tissue from his nightstand. He blew his nose with a shaky breath and tossed the tissue in the bin. For a good minute, he sat there in silence, slowing inhaling and exhaling rattling breaths. You made your way over to him and took a seat at the edge of his bed. He kept his back towards you as he sniffled some more, so you sat there, watching his shoulders quiver.
Slowly, Kai entertwined his hand with yours. He gave it a good squeeze, as if reassuring himself you were still there. You didn't want to say anything to him yet. If you did, you were sure it would break his already fragile tranquility. Thankfully, he made the first move.
"I know you wouldn't leave me," he began, "but sometimes I can't help worrying. What if we go on a mission and none of us make it back? Lloyd almost died, Cole's a ghost.... What if something happens to you? Or--or Nya and Jay or Zane?" He let out a rattling breath that spoke of all the battles you both endured. It was hard to believe you both survived every single one of them.
"Kai, we've lived this long." you said. "Why not longer? And even if one of us does die, life will go on. It always does in Ninjago, and it blooms again into something new." You squeezed his hand. "You're thinking about your parents too."
The quiet Kai stayed in was enough of an answer.
"I understand it hurts. You know, my parents died when I was very little. I don't remember how they looked like, but I remember what I felt. They made me so happy. It was short, but I found it again in you and the others. Even if something disappears, it's never truly lost." You smiled even though Kai would never see it. "Lloyd's still here because you saved him. None of us are going anywhere for as long as we can help it."
Kai's shoulders slumped. A sigh left his lips and he finally turned to face you. What strikes you the most about him isn't the puffiness under his eyes, or the bags and crinkle in his brow--it's the life that's been sucked out of his expression. His eyes were hollow, as if someone had completely wiped the emotion of happiness from existence. The deep frown tugging at his lips is even worse. It's thin, tight, and quivering.
"I-I'm sorry..."
You placed a hand on his cheek. "Kai." It's all you can muster, a name, a look of sorrow, and worry. Howw had you not seen this? How had you missed something so plainly put?
You gently pulled him closer, wrapping your arms around his warm body as the rain fell from his eyes. "You have nothing to be sorry for. If anyone should be sorry, it's me. I should be there for you, but I didn't notice. I love you though and I'm here now." you gently whispered.
"You're not alone Kai. You don't have to carry the weight of the world on your shoulders. We're all here for you and no one is leaving." His cries started out soft, but with each word that left your mouth, his whimpers grew, gaining and gaining in volume until a heart-wrenching sob ripped through his throat.
Tears gathered in your eyea and you allowed yourself to cry with him. It hurt to think about losing anyone, it hurt to see your boyfriend so battered, so beaten and defeated. What cure could you offer to remedy his pain you shared?
There was no answer to that. And so you sat there, keeping your arms tight around each other as if either of you would disappear. Right now, it was sink or swim. You had to fight the ache and push forward, even if it felt like you were both drowning.
Please don't forget to reblog so this can reach more people! Thank you all for reading!

Chapter 4
Pairing- Loki x Reader

Your thoughts and other characters are in italics.
Flashbacks are in bold.
Tumblr media
“The celebration had been going on strong for the last few hours, and there wasn’t an end in sight. Asgardians strolled through the streets, rejoicing the fact that the Nine Realms were safe at last. Friends laughed, kids played, and warriors recounted their many victorious battles.
Y/n,Gambit,Sif, and The warrior three are all drinking in the castle, until Y/n starts to get flashes of Loki. He was in the scorching sun day in and day out,and they deprive him of water for weeks, and someone used the mind stone on him. Outside her head all the glass bottles and wine glasses bust, and Gambit immediately looks over at Y/n and see the black vines on her arm but before he could make his way over to her but time freeze.
Y/n gets up and runs to the dungeon, when she gets there she just stands in front of Loki’s cell looking down at her feet. Having a hard time looking at him and not see what she saw.
“Y/n, what’s going on?” Loki said as he looks around and see everyone is frozen. “Are you doing this?”
“why didn’t you tell me....why didn’t you tell me you were tortured.” Y/n questioned.
Loki looks at Y/n with wide eyes. “How do you do know that.”
“The stars, our minds all of that is Connected remember. How you not tell me.” Y/n said with Infrequent blinking.
“I didn’t want you to see that.” Loki answered.
“You were alone before you came to earth.” Y/n said as a tear rolls down her face.
The Black vines starts to slowly climb up her arm and appear on her face. Loki see that Y/n is in distress from what she learned. He knows what will happen if he let her feel those emotions. So he walks up the to the shield and use his up most calming and soothing voice he could muster at a time like this.
“It’s ok I’m fine Y/n look at me look at me.” Loki pleased.
Y/n looks at Loki with an empty stare. “No it’s not fine.....you were tortured. You were tortured into do what you did on earth. You was being watched. Even if I was aware of what was going on with you there was nothing I could’ve done. Nothing you could’ve done cause if you would’ve said or done anything differently they would’ve killed you.”
“I tried my best to get to rid those memory. I knew you would be able to feel it.” Loki said.
“I never wanted to experience those feeling.....not again?” Y/n quavered. “Not again.”
“What do you mean by ‘not again’?” Loki dais with a firm voice.
“The people that took me did this to me they put someone else’s X-Gene inside of me and I have to learn how to control it....and when I couldn’t control it they would put a collar around my neck then throw me into a dark room. The feeling of loneliness every day inside that room...if it wasn’t for Gambit....” Y/n trailed off. But Loki knew what she was going to say.
“I’m so sorry. I am here.” Loki puts he’s hand on over the Barrier of the cell walk and Y/n copies his movement.
“The person that did that to you.” Robin started. “What was there name?”
“Thanos” Loki answered.
“Thanos.”

At that same time, back on Asgard, Heimdall, the all-seeing keeper of the Rainbow Bridge, stood at his post at the edge of the observatory, scanning the cosmos. He did not turn when Thor approached, but spoke as soon as the prince was behind him.
“You're late.” Heimdall announced.
“Merriment can sometimes be a heavier burden than battle.” Thor stated.
“Then you're doing one of them incorrectly.” Heimdall commented.
Thor chuckles. “Perhaps. How fare the stars?”
“Still shining. From here I can see Nine Realms and ten trillion souls.” Heimdall looks at Thor for a moment. “You recall what I told you of the Convergence?”
“Yes, the alignment of the worlds. It approaches, doesn't it?” Thor asked.
“The universe hasn't seen this marvel since before my watch began. Few can sense, even fewer can see it. A world that's infected can be dangerous. It is truly beautiful.” Heimdall explained.
They looks out into the stars. “I see nothing.”
“Or perhaps that is not the beauty you seek.”
Thor laughs. “How is she?”
“She's quite clever, your mortal. She doesn't know it yet, but she studies the Convergence as well. Even...” Heimdall stops as he senses something.”
“What?” Thor stressed.
“I can't see her.”

We see Jane being infected by the Aether] [after Jane is infected with the Aether she reawakens in the factory, she runs out to find Darcy has called the police.
“Jane! Where the hell were you?” Darcy exclaimed.
“Tell me you didn't call the police!” Jane inquired.
“What was I supposed to do?” Darcy asked.
“Not call the police!” Jane yelled.
“I was freaking out.” Darcy stuttered.
“You call the cops they tell the feds, the next thing you know we have Shield crawling all over area fifty-one-ing the place.” Jane proclaimed.
“Jane!”
“We had a stable gratification anomaly, we had unheeded access. Our only competition was ten years old!”
“Jane, you were gone for five hours!” Darcy disclosed.
“What?....”
Suddenly the weather turns, it starts raining and they hear the sound of thunder, Jane looks around her and puts her hand out.
“That's weird.” Darcy noted.
They see it's raining but it's not raining on Jane and Darcy, there's an invisible barrier protecting them, suddenly Jane sees Thor standing a few feet away from them, Jane hands her gadget to Darcy and walks towards Thor, as she walks away the invisible barrier follows her and the rain starts falling on Darcy.
“Typical.”
Jane walks towards Thor.
“Jane.”
“As she reaches him suddenly she slaps him hard in the face. “Sorry. I just needed to make sure you were real, it's been a very strange day.”
“Well, I am. Jane...”
Suddenly she slaps him again. “Where were you?!”
“Where were you? Heimdall could not see you.” Thor said.
“I was right here where you left me. I was waiting and then I was crying and then I went out looking for you. You said you were coming back.” Jane said in a level tone.
“I know, I know, but the Bifrost was destroyed. The Nine Realms erupted into chaos, wars were raging, marauding hordes were pillaging. I had to put an end to the slaughter.” Thor explained.
“As excuses go, that's not terrible. But I saw you on TV, you were...you were in New York! Fighting with Y/n.” Jane said without trying to sound Jealous.
But she was he was spending all that time with Y/n. Ok she was the only person that believe him but Jane did to (with reason).
Does Thor have Heimdall to look in on Y/n.
“Jane, I fought to protect you from the dangers of my world, but I was wrong, I was a fool.” Thor places his hand Jane's face. “I believe that fate brought us together. Jane, I don't know where you were or what happened, but I do know this.”
“What?”
“I know...”
“You do?”
“Do what?”
They lean in close and just as they are about to kiss Darcy interrupts them; referring to the rain.
“Hey! Is that you?”
Thor looks up and the rain stops.
“Uh...we're kind of in the middle of something.” Jane sigh of irritation as she look at Darcy.
“Um...I'm pretty sure we are getting arrested” Darcy replied.
Jane look over at Thor. “Hold that thought.” She turns and runs towards the police.
“Look at you, still all muscly and everything. How's space?” Darcy asked.
“Space is fine.” Thor answered.
Jane walks over to the police. “Excuse me?”
“Are you Jane Foster?” One of police officer asked.
“Yes.”
“Do you know this man?” police officer said referring to Ian.
“He's my intern. My intern's intern.” Jane answered.
“This is private property and you're trespassing, the lot of you. You'll have to come with me.” The police officer goes t grab Jane's arm but suddenly the force from the Aether creates a powerful force which pushes the officer and everything else away,
Thor runs towards Jane who's lying on the ground.
“Jane! Jane?” Thor said as he helps her stand. “You alright?”
“What just happened?” Jane asked.
The other police officer approaches Jane apprehensively. “Place your hands on your head, step back!”
“The woman is unwell.” Thor answered.
“She's dangerous.”
“So am I.” Thor disclosed.
Talking into his radio. “Requesting armed response officers to the scene.” Thor grabs Jane and pulls her closer to him.
“Hold on to me.”
“What are you doing?” Suddenly the Bifrost opens and Thor takes Jane to Asgard; Darcy looks up as they disappear
“Holy shit!” Darcy shouted.
Thor and Jane travel through the Bifrost and enter Asgard where Heimdall is guarding as always, Jane looks around her in amazement.
“We have to do that again.” she notices Heimdall for the first time. “Hi.”
“Welcome to Asgard.” Heimdall announced.

Returning to their homeland, Svartalfheim, Malekith kneels and grabs a handful of dust from the ground. “Look at my legacy, Algrim. I barely remember the time before light.”
Algrim places his hand on Malekith's shoulder. “Our survival will be your legacy.”
“The Asgardians will suffer as we have suffered. I will reclaim the Aether. I will restore our world and I'll put an end to this poisonous world.” Malekith replied.

Asgard.
Loki is laying down on his bed, think about what happened the other day. The way Y/n was angry for him and what he saw. He didn’t know if he deserve such passion. What has he done to deserve that from her.
Maybe Odin is right
Y/n appeared in his cell, looks over at her and see she’s looks upset.
“What’s the matter? Did you have a another memory?” Loki said sitting up.
“No.... I just had to say goodbye to Gambit that all.” Y/n said with a downturned head.
“Gambit, he’s alive?” Loki questioned looking shocked.
“Yes, he is. Why you asked me that?” Y/n wondered then realization hits her. “Did you see one of my memories?”
Loki nods yes.
“Which one?” Y/n said with an intriguing voice.
“He was dying.” Loki answered.
“Oh.....that one.” Y/n said in a small voice. “That day would ever be known as November 18th. That was the day I lost control...caused an earthquake and black out in the upper east of the United States.”
“What happened?” Loki wondered.
“I had a nightmare but it wasn’t like any other nightmare it was vivid. I the way his blood felt on my hands. I ever since that day my father was trying to find ways to conceal my powers and when he did I will get the senses when something good or bad was gonna happen sometimes it was painful sometimes it wasn’t.” Y/n explained.
“You’re the only person I’ve ever told that to.”
Loki walks over to Y/n and lif her head up with his index finger so she’s looking at him. “Why would you tell me?”
“I don’t know it just felt like the right thing to do.” Y/n answered smile. “That’s what you do when you care about someone you open up to them.”
“You caring for me only make things worst.” Loki said with his head down. “After your two weeks you will never see me again. You dealing with the feeling of yearning will not be good for you or your powers.”
“My powers?” Y/n said in a curious tone. “What makes you think I won’t stay on Asgard?”
“Y/n...you just got someone you care about back into your life and you would willingly leave them behind for me?”
“Gambit, with understand.” Y/n replied.
“You would hate to living here on Asgard.”
“No, I won’t because you’re here.”
Loki walks over to Y/n and lif her head up with his index finger so she’s looking at him. “Y/n, when your two weeks are up....you are going to have to let me go?”
“No..No I’m not letting anything go.” Y/n said putting some space between her and Loki. “And don’t you say if you love me let me go.”
“If you don’t you could hurt people.” Loki said walking up to Y/n hugging her from the back.
“Since when do you care about people?” Y/n asked sarcastically.
“Because your care about people.” Loki answered.
Y/n turns around and gives Loki Direct eye contact. “Don’t ask me to let you go because I won’t.”
“Y/n....” Loki said struggling to find the right words to say.
“I should go I have to met your mom.” Y/n said.
And just like that Y/n is gone and Loki stands there facial muscles tensing.

As the Asgardian physicians study Jane and the force within her. “What's that?”
“Be still.” Eir said in a snappy voice.
Thor watches with one of the nurses as they examine Jane. “This is not of Earth, what is it?”
“We do not know, but she will not survive the amount of energy surging within her.” the nurse turns and walks away as Thor looks at Jane with worry.
“That's a quantum field generator, isn't it?” Jane asked.
“It's a Soul Forge.” Eir answered.
“Does a Soul Forge transfer molecular energy from one place to another?” Jane questioned.
Eir looks impressed. “Yes.”
Jane looks at Thor and whispers. “It's a quantum field generator.” Thor smiles at her.
Odin enters the room as the Thor looks on to Jane as she is being examined. “My words are mere noises to you that you ignore them completely?”
”She's ill.” Thor disclosed.
“She is mortal. Illness is their defining trait.” Odin replied.
“I brought here because we can help her.” Thor told Odin.
“She does not belong here in Asgard anymore than a goat belongs at a banquet table.“ Odin replied.
Jane sits up and looks at Thor. “Did he just...?” Jane started. “Who do you think you are?”
“I'm Odin. King of Asgard. Protector of the Nine Realms.” Odin answered.
“Oh. Well, I'm...”
“I know very well who you are, Jane Foster.”
Jane turns to look at Thor. “You told your Dad about me?”
“Something is within her, father, something I have not seen before.” Thor explained.
“Her world has its healers, their called doctors, let them deal with it. Guards, take her back to Midgard.” Odin said as two guards approach Jane and go to grab her, suddenly the energy force within her sets off again throwing the two guards aside.
“Don't touch her.” Thor said as he leans down and tenderly touches Jane. “Jane, are you alright?”
Jane nods her head, Odin inspects the energy force running through Jane's body and realizes it's the Aether. “That's impossible.”
“The infection, it's defending her.” Eir said in a shocked face.
“No, it's defending itself.” Thor corrected.
“Come with me. There are relics that predate the universe itself. What lies within her appears to be one of them. The Nine Realms are not eternal. They had a dawn as they will have a dusk.” Odin said showing Thor and Jane an ancient book. “But before that dawn the dark forces, the Dark Elves, reigned absolute and unchallenged.”
Thor reading from the book. “Born of eternal night, the Dark Elves comes to steal away your light. They were these stories mother told us as children.”
“Their leader, Malekith made a weapon out of that darkness, it was called the Aether. While the other relics often appeared as stones, the Aether is fluid and ever changing. It changes matter into dark matter and seeks out to host bodies, drawing strength from their life force. Malekith sought to use the Aether's power to return the universe to one of darkness. But after eternities of blood shed, my father Bor, finally triumphed, ushering in the peace that lasted thousands of years.”
“What happened?” Jane chimed in.
“He killed them all.” Odin answered.
“Are you certain? The Aether was said to have been destroyed with them and yet here it is.” Thor specified.
“The Dark Elves are dead.” Odin commented.
“Does your book happen to mention how to get it out of me?” Jane questioned.
“No, it does not.”

Y/n is sitting crisscross apple sauce in her room’s balcony. Thinking about what happened between her and Loki.
Was that our first fight?
Y/n’s emotions were at a frenzy. She didn’t understand why Loki was acting like that. She wanted to be mad. Something happened to change his mind on everything.
What if i’m overthinking it Gambit did say I think and feel more then anyone else
Y/n let’s out a sigh of irritation.
“It’s ok if my thoughts run a mile but focus on one.” Y/n said closing her eye.
So am I supposed to just sit here.
Yes I am going to be spinning this day with my daughter
Y/n can hear Frigga’s voice clear as day. She doesn’t know if it’s was her inner or outer voice.
“I didn’t know Thor had a sister.” Y/n mumbled to herself.
Y/n gets a knock on her door and she opens it with the flick of her hand.
“So I see your trying to meditate that’s a good start.” Frigga said walking in the room. The door shut close as Frigga makes her way over to Y/n.
“Yes. But I’m failing miserably at it.” Y/n laughed at herself. “I learned that my mind is a satellite. I’m always going to pick up others people thoughts. So I had to learn how to store them in the back of my mind. But even then it still feels crowded.”
“You poor dear, I can not imagine how you feel but I think I can help. Close your eyes imagine everything in your head.” Frigga said.
Y/n takes a deep breath and closes her eyes.
“Now I want you to think of the similarities of Asgard and Midgard.” Frigga said.
“That’s kind of hard Asgard is beautiful while Earth only as hidden gems.....the sunset are beautiful.” Y/n answered.
“When you think of the sun, what do you think of?” Frigga asked.
“Warm light.”
“And what is light?”
“Electricity....and electricity is power.”
“How does one turn off power?” Frigga wondered.
“By flipping a switch.” Y/n grinned.
“Now turn it off switch.” Frigga told Y/n.
Y/n flips a switch off in her mind and everything going quite. She opens her eyes and looks up at Frigga smiling.
“It’s gone. It’s not crowded anymore. Thank you.” Y/n rejoiced.
A rainbow appears in the sky as all the clouds disappear. Y/n gets up from the ground and hugs Frigga, then immediately letting her go.
She’s a queen you have to remember that
“Oh I’m so sorry.” Y/n said with a downward gaze.
Frigga smiles. “Y/n, it is fine.” Frigga looks out and sees a rainbow. “That wouldn’t be your doing would is?”
“Sorry.” Y/n goes to fix the sky but Frigga stops her.
“I think it’s rather lovely.”
Y/n smiles at Frigga.

back on Svartalfheim, in his ship Malekith plots his vengeance against the Asgardians.
“The Realms will be aligned soon.” Malekith takes out a knife and turns to Algrim.“You'll be the last of the Kursed.”
Malekith stabs Algrim in the stomach with his knife. “Let my life be sacrificed. The same as our people.”
“You will become darkness, doomed to this existence until it consumes you.” Malekith started. One of the dark elves places a molten rock in Malekith's hand and Malekith places it inside Algrim's stomach. “And then no power of our enemies will stop me.”
“I'll destroy their defenses and resurrect the universe.” Malekith looks to one of his dark elves as he carries a mask.
A/n- I can’t believe the Loki tv show season one is done. (Sigh) I guess I’ll be waiting.

Imagine (Son of Hades! Percy; Godswapped! Big Three's kids (6/7) or (11/12)
House of Hades Pt.2 - In the Argo II
Hello darlings! Before reading this, there's at least other 11 parts - and I almost had to divide this into two - check on the masterpost - but don't be sad is ending :(
First - I have no idea if I'll divide Blood of Olympus in two because I hate the climax Rick wrote - so probably? Also not sure if I'll need an epilogue - we're not delving into TOA, though.
Second - I'll keep writing! I have a handful of ideas that I want to do next - and the next AU will have Female! Percy - so keep logging in!
Check on the warnings before proceeding, and good reading :))
To say that things are tense in the Argo II is downplaying the major depression the ship seemed to be sunk in since Perseus fell.
Leo and, surprisingly, Nico are the only ones who are able to get anything done in the first couple of days, but they aren't fooling anyone - the white eyes of the son of Zeus seem to be every day a little more bloodshot, and more than one fire happens without no explanation.
Annabeth didn't stop crying for a second - even throughout Will's examination of her and her brother - for at least 12 hours. Then she crashed for another 12 hours - and when Annabeth woke up, she was enraged.
She is going to bring the damned statue back to Camp - and then she will kick her mother's ass. That's her best friend, not collateral damage.
And when her dumbass of a best friend comes back, Annabeth is going to kick his ass too. How dare he fall - for her, not even his closest friend - into freaking Tartarus?
Frank is devastated - he and Piper are coping by planning the future - how they can spend the summer at Camp and live in Nova Roma, how they'll visit Perseus if he decides to go to college in the mortal world. It feels a little like denial.
Hazel and Jason are coping in the totally opposite way. Where Leo and Nico are fueling themselves with determination, Annabeth is anger personified and the other two went in the road of negation - they're both in a deep state of panic.
The sea became too dangerous to travel - the tides answering to Jason's turbulent emotions - and any metal on board keeps exploding or becoming so fueled with energy that no one but Nico and Hazel can touch it.
They pray together - for Neptune, Jupiter, Pluto, Letum, any god that Perseus ever helped (a lot of them) - for his protection. Jason holds evening prayers - just like in Nova Roma - and they offer anything, everything, for Percy to be alive. Everyone goes.
Except for Will, who is in a whole other league. The moment that he arrived at Camp, Percy was the one to settle him, and calm him, and take care of him. It was a side of him no other person in this ship had ever seen - Nico got in Camp in the worst timing possible, and all the others were pretty independent when they met Perseus.
But Will remembers - the nights with hot chocolate, Percy's warm sweaters, a pair of blue gloves messing his hair, the anxiety when the boy left for school, just for him to keep IMing Will every evening - and he misses Percy.
After the Labyrinth, the war, the losses, they reconnected - the prejudices against Percy's parentage long gone - and it felt like nothing ever changed.
It was Percy who helped him coming out for his mother. It was Percy that held Will after he lost Sibele - a daughter of Momus - to her injuries. It was Percy, always Percy.
Percy is much more of a father then Apollo - and much better as a brother then some of Will's siblings. So Will just locks himself up in his infirmary - and grieves. It's weird in such a hard mission to remember that Will is just fifteen and that he is a veteran of war.
The mood lingers, even when they start fighting regularly against the Apennines - and isn't this a whole other mess.
The mountain spirits are pissed - because Hades/Pluto and his wife are really pissed. It's Malcolm - the only one with a phone and a good connection to the internet - that tells them that the world started having earthquakes every few days.
The mortals are confused because most of these are not even close to the tectonic plates - and none of those cause turmoil at the sea. It's just Hades - mightly pissed his only son is beyond even his reach.
Three days in fighting the Ourae - who don't like having their mountains shaken over and over again - the sky also starts thundering. Coincidentally, it's July 30th - they've been traveling for twenty-two days - which also marks Thesmophoria - the greek festival of harvest.
But, alas, nothing is blooming. Persephone is as dangerous as her husband - and Demeter seems to follow her daughter's lead. With the Earth corrupted - the crops aren't growing.
Jason doesn't blame his matron - he is not really happy himself. Besides praying for Perseus' safety, he spends most of his days in patrol against boulders and rocks of all things.
Leo barely sleeps - too busy keeping the ship from falling apart - and Nico is, most of the time, right behind him keeping the ship steady. They try using canons and fail miserably. There's no way to fight against mountains - it's like Dom Quixote fighting against the windmills.
The others, even Will, rotate between fighting rocks and sleeping. Four days after Thesmophoria, Leo decides it's enough, turns the ship around, and solves to not cross the Apennines.
He just hopes Perseus can last another seven days.
Hazel - the only one awake, because this is supposed to be her patrol and Leo finds her the most reasonable out of all their friends, who would probably insist on keep fighting the freaking mountains - is praying. Like always.
Leo doesn't know how he feels about praying. His extended family was very catholic - they prayed for a god that they couldn't see or touch. But Leo met the gods - or, if Annabeth is to be believed, one set of them - and he doesn't like them.
They're petty children who have no care for the fate of their children - the ones who fight for them, go on their errands, keep them alive, y'know. Leo doesn't want to praise them. He doesn't think they deserve it.
But Hazel's prayers are answered when her venti, Tempest, appears aboard. Hazel tells Leo to go on without her - she'll be back soon.
He is concerned for her - like always. Of all new people, Leo seems to be the closest to her - his overall cheeriness and electric behavior are endearing to her, a light in these dark times. Sometimes, his smile makes her flush - just like Frank's did and still does.
Hazel mounts Tempest and the venti takes her, through mountains and hills, to a door. There's mist curling at her ankles and a chill in her spine.
She isn't very thrilled by meeting Trivia - Hazel heard stories of her greek son by Perseus, who seemed to hold the guy in high standard, but she knows gods. The goddess of magic wants something.
Trivia is an imposing woman - taller than Hazel, she has the same midnight skin as Perseus, though hers looks purple-ish, and her eyes are entire universes - stars bloom in her irises and twin moons rise in her pupils.
The goddess is fickle - she seems to be there and not, at the same time. Ghostly. There's three of them, then one, then five.
Trivia beacons to the daughter of Jupiter and she follows, the cursed little girl she is. The goddess offers her three options: Perseus, prone in the ground as she, Leo, and Annabeth battle an invisible foe, the two demigod installments at war, or the Argo II.
Hazel chooses the Argo II, but she promises herself, and the goddess, that she will save Perseus, and that no demigod blood will be spilled by other demigod's hand. Not again.
She will learn how to control the Mist. But Trivia is very mistaken if she thinks Hazel is going to become her acolyte. She remembers well what happened last time - she died.
The Argo II is traveling without much hassle - when they're crossing Monte Falterona, in the Campigna National Park, they are attacked by a new mountain spirit - and this one talks.
"Get Pluto his brat back, you useless halflings!"
Like the boulders the immortal is throwing at them will help. Leo screams this back at the mountain, who is not impressed at all.
Their next foe is in San Marino - a chimera. Most popular knowledge is wrong about those monsters: chimeras are not just goat-lion-snake mixes. They are an amalgamation of any three or more animals.
This one, in particular, is a very... candid mix of a Pyrenean chamois, a monk-seal, a mouflon, and a goose. Not very lethal or hazardous - just very angry. It's the first time they hear Annabeth laugh since Perseus fell.
While Malcolm is chasing and being chased around by an evil goat-goose-seal-weirdass deer chimera that he is fending off with an encyclopedia, the others can't even bring themselves to help. It's ridiculous - the thing is not even big. It's just ugly and it sounds like a honking clown.
Eventually, they get around to killing the clown chimera - it honks as it vanishes - and following route to Bologna. Frank tries to mutate to the chimera during the travel - to different levels of failure - which makes everyone laugh.
Thanks to their two encounters, the crew gets to Bologna at two in the afternoon.
Frank can't help counting the days as they pass him by. He is not the only one - he can see Annabeth muttering the time every now and then - but it feels like a countdown. Can Perseus survive one more week in Tartarus?
Even with the pressing worry for his lost friend, he can't stop thinking about Hazel and Leo. The two of them are thick as thieves - and Frank wants in.
But he knows it's wrong - Leo is a boy. Hazel is younger. Leo bares a power that could kill him. Hazel is his best friend. They're two people. - but he sees them flirting and can't keep his eyes to himself.
It's wrong. Soldiers aren't supposed to date men. Men who dated men are prostitutes, entertainers. Less. And two people at the same time? Outside of a bedroom? Preposterous.
Frank wishes he was more like Perseus. Perseus is all about duty: he would eventually marry Reyna. Or Annabeth, or other pretty and intelligent warrior, and have two point five kids with a picket fence.
But no. Here he is - midday, they are stopping for lunch, and he can't keep his eyes off Leo and Hazel - who are quietly chatting in the other end of the long table.
Frank ponders what would they think. Would the two be repulsed? Would they laugh at him? He can deal with laughter. Their disgust, however, would cut his heart in half.
Nico is in a very similar, and yet completely different, situation. He has been in love - or as close as love could be when you never dated the person - with Perseus Jackson.
He knows it's okay to be gay - he is friends with Will and Jake. He lives on CHB since he was a pre-teen. Perseus himself was - is - queer.
But the thing is, he'll never have a chance with him. Not the chance he is longing for gods know how long. He failed Perseus yet again - he let the demigod fall.
Perseus can have anyone. Perfect Annabeth Chase, Shrewd Reyna Arellano, Magic Alabaster Torrington, anyone. And he wouldn't have a problem with that - no. The problem is that he can't make a choice. Because he is in Tartarus.
Because Nico. Let. Him. Fall.
He isn't even sure if he let Perseus fall on purpose. A part of his mind knew someone would have to go. It was always meant to be Perseus. Did he purposefully let him go?
The rational part of his mind knew that if he tried to fly them off, all he would accomplish is falling into Tartarus with Perseus, probably dragging Annabeth with them.
But the guilt creeps into his heart - again, yet again, Perseus suffers for something he did or failed to do. He can't sleep. He doesn't know how anyone can eat.
A rock for him in these difficult times has been Jason. The son of Neptune seems to be as affected as Hazel or Annabeth - but Nico would never be able to rely on them.
Hazel has her own problems - a lot of them since Trivia appeared - and Annabeth is a painful reminder of everything Nico is unable to have.
Jason, however, is different. They had dreams of each other - something about their conquests, Nico didn't pay attention - and that apparently brought them close. Jason, differently from Annabeth, isn't a competition. He isn't vying for Percy's attention and love.
He is just a close friend - like Nico pretends to be most of the time - incredibly worried about the son of Hades. Nico would tell Jason about how he feels - but the militar roman's sensibilities might not be adjusted to the greeks' freedom yet.
Nico, however, is also not the only one with heart problems. Piper finds himself entranced by Annabeth Chase - even when she knows, she knows because of her powers, that Annabeth is painfully straight.
And Piper knows it's not love - it's the heat of the upcoming war and the hormones of being cooped up with just other teenagers for twenty days. She sees the blossoms of young lovers everywhere.
The yearning between Leo, Hazel, and Frank; Nico and Jason unconsciously sharing long-term crushes on Perseus; Will missing Jake and his parental figure;
She wishes she was more like Malcolm. Malcolm is asexual - besides being the only other transexual person on board.
Before this war spiked from nothing, the boy was just back from his mission for Hermaphroditus - a two-month search for a missing choker. He is still adapting to his body - it's bigger and broader and he doesn't have to wear a binder. Piper thinks it's amazing - he tells her it isn't that easy.
It's not a slow transition. One second your body is something - and then it isn't. One morning, the demigod caught him holding a red binder in his hands. Sometimes, she sees a shot of testosterone tucked in his pocket.
One day, he was a boy stuck in a girl's body. Then, he wasn't anymore. He has the body he dreamed of for forever - and it's difficult accepting it. Malcolm tells her is not exactly body dysphoria - is just difficult to conciliate.
Piper thinks after this, she'll get her body. After all of this, she deserves it - her body, all hers, with boobs and a killer jawline. Maybe then, it'll be easier to like girls as well. Maybe then, she'll shave half of her head and get a piercing. And maybe, a couple of tattoos.
But while this doesn't happen, she is whining to her asexual friend about her crush in his sister. Malcolm crushes her with logic - "Annabeth has only shown interest in men. She might be bi or pan or even a lesbian, but the odds aren't on your favor" - and she tries to put the blonde out of her mind.
Lunch, however, is a little ridiculous for her. As a daughter of love herself, that table is such a mess of yearning and pining and infatuations.
Malcolm seems to be the only rational - but even he is a little flushed. Piper totally saw that picture of Mitchell in his drawer last week.
She couldn't blame him really - her brother is hot. All demigods are - in very different ways of course, but their godly blood made them more or less otherworldly compared to mortals. Didn't matter their ethnicity, their gender, if they're disabled or not - they are all hot.
Piper, however, doesn't spend all her time freaking over hot people. She is a teenager with a friend who has a good connection to the internet, so she does that a lot - but most of her time these days is looking at Katoptris.
She's waiting for a vision of Perseus. Anything - just proof that he is alive, that he hasn't curled in a ball on whatever is the ground down there and went mad.
It doesn't come. She is looking at this ridiculous lunch table, eating vegetarian burgers, and waiting. Just as it seems like her dagger starts glowing gold - two monkey twins sweep down and steal it. And Leo's tool belt and Archimedes' Sphere.
Piper is really pissed. She wants this mission to end - she wants to find Perseus and stop Gaea, and that's her magical item. It's important. So she and Leo go after the twin monkeys.
Using one of the armory's javelin - for lack of a better option - they sprint over roofs and marketplaces. Bologna is a beautiful city - but they have no time.
They corner the twin monkeys, get their things back - and some things pertaining to a god of harvest - Triptolemus. Perhaps if they make an offer to him, Demeter and Persephone will be more cooperative. Maybe Persephone will be able to calm her husband.
Piper really doubts it. If she learned anything in the nineteen days she traveled with Perseus, is that he calls Persephone "Kore" or "Mater". The only other person he refers to with such open childish joy is his own mother, Sally.
The guy IMed both of them twice a week - enough that Piper knows their voices. While Hades isn't high in the demigod's list of people, his wife seemed to be at least number #2.
But they go back to the ship and relay their plan anyway. They set route to Venice. In the hour that it takes them to get there, they're delayed twice: once by the personification of River Ádige - which enabled them to pass until Jason helped with a small problem - and then by a couple of ventis - which Hazel sent off.
Frank, Annabeth, Hazel and Nico venture into the drowned city - Piper declines to go, saying that she is waiting for Katoptris to cooperate - being Nico the only one who actually speaks Italian in the ship.
The city is infested with anteater-like herbivorous monsters called katoplebones, which are pointedly not from the Greek pantheon. It's pretty rare for monsters to cross pantheons - and the Egyptians are pretty good in keeping them under lock and key - but sometimes, this happens.
They aren't capacitated to deal with those. Annabeth has half a mind to call the Kanes and demand an explanation. Pretty sure they were possessed by the gods to avoid this kind of situation.
She doesn't have much time to think - Hazel is quickly overwhelmed by the poisonous breath of the cows. Of course - is there anything in Egypt that isn't connected to snakes?
They find Triptolemus - who is not thrilled with their presence. Demeter - his mistress - and her daughter are distraught by Perseus' missing status - and he blames Annabeth and Nico for it.
Annabeth tries to persuade him - after all, they have Jason on board, and he is blessed by Ceres. Triptolemus - a very greek god - is not swayed.
"Your trickster words shall not fool me, daughter of Athena."
That's how Annabeth became a rosemary bush - good for memory and brainpower. Nico, when he tried to fight back, became a corn crop.
Mars is whispering in Frank's mind - he is not really fond of his father but uses his help to kill the evil Egyptian cows and get a python for the god's chariot.
He can't let Hazel die. He can't see the light go off her eyes - to see the same pain reflected in Leo's eyes. But Frank is so using Nico's stunt as a corn plant as blackmail material later. Not with Annabeth thought - she would stab him.
Triptolemus, pleased, turns Nico and Annabeth back to human and heals Hazel. Then, he tells them they have to eat barley cakes - so they can survive the poison needed to enter the house of the dead.
Proceeding south down the Adriatic toward Greece, a journey that should take about half a day, the crew of the Argo II is first accosted in Koper - a city on the coast of Slovenia - by four monocerus in the middle of the night.
Monocerus, in Leo's very succinct explanation, are "evil unicorns with big feet that can't fly and shouldn't be in a flying ship".
Whoever, the monsters apparently don't care where they should or not be - and Annabeth - still reeling for her time as rosemary - takes two of them out, keeping the horns as a prize. Nico takes one, who is so beat that leaves nothing, and Malcolm kills one with a handgun.
It's not the most practical weapon, because celestial bronze is not that easy to fabricate/find/obtain - so to use it in bullets that will explode and render it unusable it's kind of a desperate - but it's the first thing he could get - Malcolm's double tessen was being repaired by Leo.
Because yes - not only was the twenty years old able to fight with normal blades, he also fights with freaking fans made of iron.
After the run-in with the evil unicorns - Annabeth looks really cool covered in gold blood and curved silver horns in her hands - they proceed across Croatia.
It goes well for about thirty minutes - in Zadar, they cross paths with Sciron. Sciron is a bandit and outlaw, who - for some reason, is assisted by a giant predatory sea turtle.
While Hazel tricks him into throwing himself off the cliff using her new-discovered Mist, Jason talks to the turtle. It says its name is Chelone - that it's the turtle who took Aphrodite Ourania from the depths of the sea to the shores of Cythera - when she was still young, with remains of other goddesses in her anima - Innana and Ishtar.
He convinces the turtle to stop killing people - mainly by saying that he should hunt elsewhere, deeper onto the sea. It may become a problem for his father, but Jason has bigger issues right now.
They go to sleep, and Hazel dreams. She expects any god to come - but who comes to her is none other than Pluto and his wife, Proserpina.
Proserpina is shrouded in black, and her eyes are not green - but yellowish, like dead leaves. She talks - and tells Hazel that the Doors of Death are in the bottom of the Necromanteion - her powers over metal energy would guide her - and will be guarded by Pasiphae, vengeful of Pluto - and, by default, Perseus - for the lack of punishment for Minos.
Her husband is a silent presence by her side. He is not in mourning... probably. It's difficult to tell, as he is always in black. But his eyes hold a weight easy for Hazel to understand - he just lost a son to the abyss. No matter that Perseus might be alive - he wouldn't get back whole and safe.
Proserpina ends her dream by telling her to wake up Piper - the goddess is putting all her strength to send a vision of Perseus to Katoptris - they need one much more than her, seeing that they are able to interfere.
What Piper sees don't tell them a lot - Perseus seems mostly okay, with some sort of companion that Nico says it might be Iapetus, a brand new scar over his face and a bad limp.
It's the last they'll see of him until their eventual meeting face to face, but it gives them hope.
Annabeth herself has a dream - a dream that the Romans give the statue to the greeks. She sends an iris message to Rachel - so she can meet personally with Reyna.
Reyna, on the other side of the world, mounts her pegasus, Scipio, and leaves. Not only her co-praetor is in freaking Tartarus, but they are on the verge of two simultaneous wars. They need peace.
As soon as she is out of the roman range, however, she sends an iris message to Jason - telling him to go to their hero's place of rest - she had a vision from Mars. That she will meet them in Greece. Jason tells Leo to set course for Split, in Croatia. There's a roman scepter there.
Of all of them, the most capacitated for this mission are Frank and Jason, who are both educated Romans, and Nico, who can fly - a very good power to have in unstable ruins.
They're confronted by Favonious, who takes them to his master, Cupid, in Dalmatia. Nothing good can come of talking to the personification of love - such an old concept that the god has been reborn twice.
"Well, well, well"
"What do we have here?"
Jason falls onto the ground - "You think you found true love, haven't you? But alas, I was where you last expected me" - and he hates love, for that single moment.
"I shall give you what you want, Romans, if each of you is able to tell me - who do you love the most?"
Nico trembles - guilt is a difficult pill to swallow - and Frank visibly wants to bolt out of there.
"Oh, are you afraid? But there's no hiding in the face of true love"
Jason - always the brave one - gives a look at Frank. His friend never met the greeks. He might hate Jason after this.
But they need this scepter.
"Perseus Jackson"
Two heads whips in his direction - one unbelievingly, and the other distressed.
"Ah, love crafted in dreams - the perfect mix between me and my wife. Tell me, Jason Grace, was it bad when he looked upon you and saw naught but a myth?"
A laugh creeps upon Jason's spine, and he turns around. His blade hits something hard, and he is on the floor again.
"Such luck, to be able to even graze love. Perhaps yours is the purest of all - not yet tainted by failures and mistakes. On that note, why don't you go next, Nico di Angelo?"
Nico shivers - he... they have no time for that. That is unnecessary drama - to cause unnecessary problems.
A memory rushes to the front of Jason's mind - that quick chat with Reyna in Nova Roma. "The blond girl, Di Angelo"
Nico loves Perseus. It rushes to Jason now - the way that the younger boy stared adoringly at the son of Hades. The drunkness of his lovesick gaze. The despair when Perseus fell.
"Tell them Nico di Angelo" Cupid prompts "Tell them all about your guilt, your mistakes, the way you let him down, again and again, and again."
Nico floats a little off the ground. It's years of pain and sorrow that won't bring Perseus back.
"Will you fly off yet again, in the face of rivalry? Will you be my next servant - just like Favonious, consumed by jealousy, Nico di Angelo?"
Jason sees the memories. Nico screaming at Perseus. Grover reluctantly telling him about their adventures. The way he betrayed Percy - and a dozen more scenes he never saw from Nico's perspective, only Percy's, that made him unable to speak.
"It's okay Nico... I.... I get it."
It's painful to utter these words - it's almost like he is giving up Perseus. But they have a war to get through - and then, when the other demigod is back, they can figure this out.
"P-Perseus Jackson"
And then it's Frank's turn. But Frank is as pale as a ghost - he seems to be close to vomiting.
"It's a costly thing isn't it, looking at the true face of love. Now it's the turn of the brave son of Mars. Will you tell your friends easily, or shall you be a coward like the son of Zeus?"
Frank doesn't talk. Jason doesn't understand why - it's Hazel, isn't it? Is it because of Nico? He mentions talking to the son of Zeus, but Di Angelo doesn't look at him - the Cupid knew very well how to play his game.
"Come on. Tell them - tell them of whom you think before you sleep and who dominates your first thoughts every morning."
"You don't scare me"
"Oh, I scare you very, very much. Face me. Be honest."
"H-Hazel. Levesque."
"That's just half my question, little half-blood. If you want to lead the roman legions, you must answer it fully."
"I love H-Hazel. She is the one I think before I sleep and when I wake up."
"Still hiding. You're not strong enough, Frank Zhang."
Frank tries to charge at the wind, but it just mocks him. It's weird seeing Frank crying - it looks like the world is crumbling at his feet.
Jason, yet again, doesn't understand. Nico is also confused - he looks between the Romans as if he never saw any of them before. But then it dawns on the son of Zeus.
"Not only my sister. That's why you keep gazing at them, isn't it?"
All the fighting and denial leave Frank at once. His sword clangs in the ground.
"I love both Hazel and Leo. Together." He spits out, still trembling. "That's the truth. Are you happy now?"
"I wouldn't say Love always makes you happy. It can make you incredibly sad, sometimes. But you have faced it now. It's the only true way to conquer me."
Cupid appears - in a flash of white wings. It might be the god Jason hates the most - his eyes seem to penetrate his very soul. There's a scepter in his hand.
"Only a true child of Mars Ultor can yield it. It's your destiny, Frank Zhang."
Then he promptly disappears. The demigods look at each other - there's a flurry of emotions deep inside their chests. Frank looked at both of them, waiting for an attack, or for them to start fighting.
"No one has to know" He starts "I'm s-so-..."
He doesn't end. There are copious tears rolling through his face - his cheeks are a deep shade of red. A sob escapes his throat.
"P-please, p-pleased-don't t-te-tell anyone." Frank sobs, and it's such a jarring sight that both Nico and Jason rally to reassure him, leaving their own issues aside.
"There's nothing wrong with loving two people at once. No one will have a problem with it, Frank - fuck, this isn't Nova Roma. Most of us are greek."
"Hazel would hate me though. This is unnatural- I- I can't."
"You don't know that. Hazel loves you, Frank"
But the son of Mars just keeps crying until they both promise not to tell another soul what they saw. It's enough for the weird atmosphere to return.
Midway in the trek back to the ship - a six-hour walk - Nico is too riled up to safely fly with two people and none of them being too fond of air right now - Frank summons enough power to ask the question.
"So... uh... hm... Perseus?... like, uh, I can see the appeal-... but... both?... forget I asked, just....uh oh, sorry."
Jason and Nico pointedly avoid looking at each other. It's very bizarre - Jason knows a lot about Perseus, but now he knows Perseus also from Nico's perspective - and this is all messy.
They go back to the ship, relay to Annabeth that they got the scepter, and immediately go back to their cabins - to cry, to scream, to think.
It's been a day and a half - and they're still eleven hours off Epirus. Leo is pissed - because not only their three heavy-hitters are pissed at something and won't communicate, and they're of course.
Emerging from the infirmary for something other than to eat and mend people is finally Will - at least. He takes patrol in place of Nico - the boy quietly mumbled at his friend that they had a run-in with Cupid. Will can imagine how that went.
He doesn't have a clue about Frank - but Jason and Nico? They have the same long-lasting crush on Perseus - everyone on board knows that. Except, apparently, for each other. And Perseus - because his mentor/kind of brother/bother figure is a dumbass.
When they're passing through the coast of Albany, they're attacked by Khione - who is still very pissed her ex-lover's son doesn't want to spend eternity frozen with her. Leo ends up being sent away - for the distress of both Hazel and Frank and the anger of his best friends, Piper and Jason.
Piper ends up stabbing Khione - while Frank transforms into the giant dragon and burns her - making her unable to freeze them. Eventually, she runs away.
Leo, however, wakes up on an island. There's a sad girl at his side - she is using a modern blue dress, and there's a crown of black flowers upon her head.
"You were not the one I was expecting."
The son of Hephaestus wants to scream. Well, he didn't want to be whatever here is either! But her face is so sad - her gaze down to her bare feet. She seemed to be crying. He settles for asking who is her.
"I... I am sorry. My name is Calypso. This is Ogygia."
It startles him. Mainly because he has heard this name before around camp - wasn't she supposed to be freed?
"What happened to you?"
The immortal girl relays her tale - how she got freed for a year, and then the war started. The gods - Zeus - didn't trust her not to turn against them. So they locked her up - she was not the only one. Leto, Themis, Rhea - good titans or their offspring. Locked away.
She, after a year of freedom that Perseus got her, was back into her old shackles. Calypso is waiting for him for months now - but she thinks he forgot her.
So Leo tells her what happened - the bits he knows anyway. Juno/Hera, Nova Roma, the mission. Calypso seems calmer. They stay together for a while - friends it seems.
Calypso tells him about her year - about how she wanted to explore the world. She tells him she wanted to join Artemis' hunt - but, courtesy of Odysseys, she is no maiden.
He tells her about Hazel and Frank, Perseus, and the love hexagons he doesn't even know he is in - omitting the part that he is now in Tartarus. They talk about Festus - Calypso tells him about how his father is good to hear - how he came to visit, sometimes.
A week passes, maybe a week and a half. Leo vows to take Calypso off the island once the war ends, and she believes - once, a hero as brave as Leo made her the same promise, and stuck with it through the end.
In Cancun, Africa, Jason and Nico are having daily audiences with Auster, the Roman god of the south wind, in connection with the Seven being able to proceed on their way to Epirus - seeing that their ship is all broken and they have no Leo.
Auster is indolent and seems increasingly disinclined to cooperate with Jason and Nico: he dislikes the son of Zeus, and the wind never had a good relationship with the sea. Annabeth also tries her hand at it - but it's rebuffed at every turn. Piper is prohibited from entering the palace because of her magic voice.
Jason and Nico - even though they aren't speaking to each other - have for a long time admitted they don't fit completely at either camp. Jason is still too militar for CHB. Nico is too old for CHB. Both are too free with their personal lives for Nova Roma.
Auster agrees to meet with them and tells them to commit to one side - greek or roman. They deny it - they're both. The gods are both, they have been thrust in a war of both sides, they commune with gods on both aspects and they ask them to run errands for both pantheons. They have the right to be both.
Auster is not happy with this - mainly because he believes they should keep the sides separated. But it's the first time Nico and Jason agree on something - and they fight together for it. No god has the right to define those petty things when the demigods are fighting their war.
Auster merges with his greek counterpart Notus - an amalgamation of both his carefree and his militar side - and sends The Seven on their way when coerced by the threat of a hurricane and a typhoon.
He sends them to Valletta, Malta, where they find the Argo II fully repaired and in the harbor. In the port, on a small cafe, there's Leo - sitting and raging internally against the gods, who once again, fucked up something.
They trade stories, and Leo just rages more. He isn't sure how Perseus didn't ally himself with Kronos in the first war if that was the bullshit he had to deal with every day.
First Khione, then Zeus locking Calypso up, then this Notus guy - they are a week and a half late. Is Perseus still alive after nineteen days in the Pit? Is he sane? Did he tried to get out - and they weren't there?
It's with a shocking gasp from Annabeth that they realize that Perseus's birthday is in three days. They have been traveling together for thirty-seven days now - and they have to get Perseus out of Tartarus before the 18th, at least. Is the minimum.
It takes them a day to get to Epirus. There are enough monsters in their way to start a menagerie - Gaea is actively trying to stall them, so there must be a reason. Perseus might be alive.
Arriving at the Necromanteion, which they learn is just a very fancy name for catacombs, Hazel, Frank, Leo, Annabeth, Will, and Piper descend into the ruins, leaving Nico and Jason - who are both completely useless under the earth - behind with Malcolm - who, since Arachne, is pretty much claustrophobic.
They eat the barley cakes to protect themselves against the toxic potion they must drink in order to enter the temple. It's difficult to swallow poison - it burns as it goes down.
The mist tries to confuse them at every turn - Hazel diverts it. Her power over metal energy guides them - she can feel the basis of the building, way down where they are.
Katoptris burns in Piper's hand. It shows her Perseus' face - he looks cadaveric, shrouded in death. Sometimes he flickers, like a ghost - but he is alive, and heading to the Doors just like they are.
It's enough to spur them forward. Perseus is doing the same journey - from a much difficult side. They will meet in the middle.
Earthquakes strike the caverns, making part of the floor collapse. In a side, Piper and Will, surrounded by monsters in all sides. In the other, Frank, Leo, Hazel and Annabeth. The son of Mars doesn't think twice - the scepter.
He uses the Scepter of Diocletian to summon ghostly Roman soldiers, and as a Legatus Legionis, he does have the power to command all of them. It would be more controlled if he was Praetor, but the actual Praetor is Perseus, and so, in his absence, Frank will have to do.
The tunnel collapses. Hazel. Leo. They might be dead - but Frank can't panic right now. They are alive. They will protect each other, they have Annabeth Chase with them. Hazel controls the mist - everything will be just fine.
Anger grew in his chest. Those are his friends, his... his loved ones. This freaking ruin don't get to kill them before Frank summons enough courage to submit himself to the ridiculousness of telling them.
Hazel wants to cry - they left Frank behind. He might be dead - they might be all dead. Leo isn't much better. For all that Zhang seems to hate him, his infatuation with the Canadian never disappeared.
Annabeth however, is practical. She tells them Frank will be fine - the guy can transform into a dragon. Or a chimera. Probably a poisonous one, after the stunt in Venice. He has an army - it's okay.
Pasiphae is a bitch. Leo hates the woman - she reminds him of Aunt Rosa. Or Juno. Or Lady Muddy herself. He and Annabeth let Hazel do the majority of the talking - but both of them bristle as the Doors shake.
An unauthorized presence. Perseus actually did it - they have twelve minutes, in accord to Annabeth - who Leo knows better than to doubt - to open the Doors. Or he is dead, lost forever.
"It's a pity Gaea needs a son of the Earth and a daughter of the Sea... But none of you are children of the Underworld or the ocean, are you? Not even the acolyte of Trivia."
Everything indicates that she'll open the door herself - but Annabeth can't risk she whisking Perseus away to Gaea before they can reach him. So she sneaks past with her cap while they fight.
Pasiphae goes down to Hazel's illusions. Annabeth opens the Doors, before cutting the chains as Hazel and Leo distract Clytius. Perseus stumbles out, a giant tiger in his heels.
Leo didn't think he would ever see a harsher picture. The tall boy was still muscular - but gaunt as if he hadn't eaten since the fall. There were scars everywhere.
He couldn't look more - Clytius is threatening Perseus, but both Annabeth and the tiger stay in his way. Trivia appears - but they aren't truly winning until Piper, Will, and Frank are able to reach them through Hazel's magic.
Will goes immediately to Perseus' side - there's panic in his eyes. Leo can't see much this far - he hopes the son of Hades isn't dead. Piper and Frank fight alongside them. Annabeth is still hovering protectively over her best friend's prone body.
There's not much need for help - between Hazel and Trivia, the bulk of Clytius powers are unusable. The shared power of Piper (love is never where you expect it), Frank (and his undead soldiers), a very angry Annabeth, and Leo is just overkill.
They win. Will is feeding Perseus ambrosia - there's something really wrong because there are tear tracks in the blonde's face. Leo comes closer - their friends follow.
Perseus is destroyed. He looks like he has been through hell - there's a scar crossing his face and his eyes are sunken in. But that's not where it stops.
Leo's gaze goes down, to the ragged clothes that are barely recognizable - the sweatpants he was convinced to wear to go underground, the once-green sweater - and sees what is missing.
Where Perseus' leg once was, there's a metal one. The boy is curled in the fetal position - his metal leg sticks out like a sore thumb, and it looks like he might cry if he wasn't so dehydrated. The tiger nudges its head against the boy's leg and growls at them, but it doesn't attack.
"I... I can't touch him. I touched him and he started panicking... I... We have to take him back to the ship. He is stable, but..."
Frank picks up Perseus in a bride-carry - a month ago, he wouldn't be able to do it. But now, he is stronger - and Perseus must weight ninety pounds wet.
The tiger follows - when they cross to the daylight, they can see it's not a normal tiger. Annabeth - with a distraught look in her face - tells them it's a skeleton tiger. Probably a saber-tooth.
They go back on board - Piper goes up to call Nico, so he can fly Perseus into the ship. He does, but the expression in his face is so crushing Leo almost wishes they had delayed it by destroying property and landing the ship on the street.
The mood of the ship is yet again somber. No one wants to leave the infirmary - but Will forces them to rotate, so as to not overwhelm Perseus. Hypocrite - he is living in there.
Leo, Malcolm, and Piper - the least close to Percy, even though they are friends - let the others take the bulk of the shifts. Annabeth, Nico, and Jason almost get into blows about it - she wins on the fact that she knows Perseus longer.
It's difficult to IM both Rachel - who is a minute away from depression since he fell - and Lady Persephone. It's even harder to tell Sally - they leave the task to Annabeth.
They harbor for two days, waiting for Reyna. She appears from the sky during dinnertime - her horse has to be euthanized almost immediately after a run with the spirit mountains.
They talk - and end up deciding that she will take the statue back to Camp with Malcolm, the most resourceful out of them. Percy would be the logical solution - taking him out of Gaea's reach - but the son of Hades would probably be unable to shadow travel so soon.
While this happens, the others will set course to Athens - to stop Gaea and destroy the Giants. For now, they eat.
Midway through their meal, Will comes into the board - everyone knows what it means. Perseus is awake - on his birthday to boot. They take their food to the infirmary - to see the boy looking at the ceiling.
He gives them a faint smile, but no one misses the way he curls into himself any time there's someone a little too close. Perseus relays his tale - it's heavily edited, Annabeth can tell.
But he tells them about the leg - but not how he lost it - about the tiger - the name is Small Bob, but he doesn't talk about Bob - and about the firewater - but not how he got the injuries.
Small Bob never leaves Perseus's side. The demigod insists that he wants to go outside - he ate enough ambrosia and drank enough nectar that even some of his scars are gone. Not the one in his face though. Will let him go - but Annabeth thinks that he just asked out of courtesy.
He doesn't have green eyes anymore - they darkened to a point they can't distinguish his pupil. They observe as he sits calmly in the deck, metal leg sticking out, and strokes the head of the tiger, who is acting more or less like a giant house cat.
None of them miss the tracks of tears across his face, or the look he gives the night sky - it's bittersweet.

People they come together
People they fall apart
No one can stop us now
'Cause we're all made of stars
• We Are All Made of Stars - Moby •
You walked towards the room that the Commander had told you to meet him in. It was in a section of the ship you weren’t familiar with; red lights lined the sleek black walls and it was quiet in comparison to the bustling area closer to the command center. Needless to say, walking the near-empty corridors made you nervous.
And rightfully so.
Because at that moment, as you rounded a corner, you found yourself barrelling right into none other than General Hux.
Why am I like this? you thought to yourself, amused by your constant poor luck.
You stumbled backwards, mumbling an apology as Hux recovered. His features screwed into an expression of disgust.
“You.” he said through gritted teeth. “What do you think you’re doing here? This area is restricted. We don’t allow artist scum here.”
You didn’t want to reveal the true nature of your visit to this section of the ship, so you tried, and failed, to think of another excuse for your location.
“I- I was…”
He chuckled, a sinister grin spreading on his face. “Lost for words now, are you? That would be a first.”
When you continued to stay quiet, Hux took a predatory step towards you, his long, angled nose merely inches from your face. You shut your eyes tightly, attempting to block out his anger and ease your own.
He raised a finger in front of your nose but you held your ground defiantly. “Speak girl, I asked you a question!”
"Hux!” a voice sounded from down the hall, interrupting the interrogation.
The General's expression soon turned to one of irritation as he spun to face the individual who had spoken. You recognised the voice immediately as that of the Commander.
“I requested that she come to this part of the ship.” He calmly walked towards you and the General. “I take it you won’t keep her from our meeting any longer.”
“What would you want from her?” he scoffed, eyeing you with disgust. “She’s just a piece of Lothalian trash-”
Suddenly, his voice was cut off as he brought his hands up to his throat, grasping at an invisible force. You took a few steps back, taking in the scene before you. After a few moments, Hux was released and he crumpled to the ground, coughing and sputtering. The Commander then turned towards you.
“Come,” he said, before turning and walking back in the direction he came from.
You followed behind him, looking back at Hux, who was still on the ground. You knew you would be in trouble the next time you crossed paths with him, but now, you simply revelled in the sight of him lying helpless on the floor.
It wasn’t long before you arrived in front of a large metallic door. With a wave of his hand, the Commander wordlessly opened it, revealing a small, black room. Your eyes, however, were glued to the huge floor-to-ceiling windows that lined the far wall.
“Wow,” you said, entranced by the speckled expanse of darkness.
“Sit,” he ordered, avoiding eye contact.
You did as he said, bringing your legs up in front of you and draping your hands over your knees. Silence enveloped the room and as much as you hated small talk, you despised awkward silence even more.
You couldn’t take it any longer. “So are we gonna play patty-cake or are we just gonna sit here. On the floor. In silence.”
A sigh emanated from his modulator. “You are well aware that you are force-sensitive.”
Ah, so that’s what this is about. “I guess, though I still am unsure as to what that entails.”
“The Force is a field of energy, created by all life, that connects everything in the universe. Those who are force-sensitive are highly attuned to its flow; they can sense and manipulate it to their will. Less than one percent of the universe’s population has the ability to do this.”
This was the most you had ever heard him speak and you hung onto every word. “And I’m one of those one percent?”
“With proper training, yes, you could be.”
This confused you. “But why do I need to be trained? It’s not like I’m some soldier who could use it in battle; I’m an artist! What would I gain from it? ”
He answered quickly and straightforwardly. “Power.”
You hated that word. It was too often used to justify war. “But I don’t want power; I want peace.”
“Peace only comes from power,” he responded robotically.
You shook your head in disagreement and let your eyes wander to the sheet of space before you. You thought of your dad, and how he always knew how to deescalate a tricky situation. Or your mom, who was always putting others before herself. And of course your little brother, who always saw the best in everyone and everything.
You smiled fondly. “I think peace comes from empathy.”
“You’re being naive,” he sighed.
You shrugged. “Or hopeful.”
He responded as if reciting from a First Order textbook, if that was even a thing, you thought .
“Hope is dangerous. It distracts us from our fears.”
"And gives us the confidence to confront them,” you retorted confidently.
He was starting to grow frustrated, his gloved fists clenching and unclenching. “You should always go into a fight imagining the worst possible outcome, not hoping that you will somehow make it out unscathed.”
“But hope provides us with something to fight for, and without that, we’re powerless,” you thought deeply, choosing your words carefully. “You were wrong before. Peace doesn’t come from power, power comes from peace.”
He silently searched your face, as if tracing each line would help him figure you out. You noticed a shift in his body language; he looked on edge, hesitant, nervous.
“I want to try something. I am going to attempt to see into your mind - and I want you to try to stop me.”
“Haven’t we done this before?” you smirked.
“Yes, however, I want you to replicate your actions, control them.”
“And why would you help me keep you out of my mind?”
He fidgeted with one of his fingers. “There are people on this ship that wouldn’t be happy with me engaging with someone so dispositioned to the Force, as I am.”
This surprised you. “Who, Hux? He hardly seems like a threat you’d be concerned about.”
“Yes, Hux. But there is another. Someone I answer to.”
This surprised you even more. You couldn’t imagine the Commander answering to anyone but himself. “And why would this person be so against you training me?”
“He would believe his power over me would be jeopardized. He would perceive you as a threat.”
You scoffed. “Me, a threat? Does he know who I am? I tripped over a chair in my room last night and apologized to it. I mean, it’s just my personal opinion, but that definitely does not give off the most threatening of vibes.”
“Well, unfortunately, he does not care about your opinion.”
You paused, considering all the new information you just learned. Knowing that the Commander was following another’s orders should’ve made you nervous, but instead you had hope that maybe some of the bad things he had done in the past weren't completely his doing.
“Alright, fine. Let’s just get this over with, okay?”
He nodded silently. As he brought his hand to your temple, you couldn’t help but flinch. Surprisingly, he stopped his movement.
“I’ll make it as painless as I can.”
You stared up at him, astonished by his uncharacteristic comment, before nodding. He slowly continued his maneuver.
You felt nothing at first, only a small tingle at the back of your skull. Like vines on a tree, you felt the tingle form tendrils and reach across the expanse of your head. You focused on each one, imagining walls being built in front of each. But the vines were persistent. They snaked up the cracks of your walls, making their way to the top. You tried making the walls taller, but there were too many; you couldn’t keep up. You managed to keep most of the vines at bay, but one vine slipped its way over the top of the wall, and started its descent to the other side.
As it did, flashes began to hit you in small bursts. With them came visions, memories.
You and your older brother, Doran, sat on a blanket, watching as your little brother, Benji, played in the dirt a few feet away.
“Why does he do that?” you asked Doran.
“Why does he do what?” he replied.
“Play in the dirt like that. It’s gross.” You watched as Benji squished a handful of mud in his hand, smiling.
“Maybe he sees something in it that you don’t.”
“Like what, worms?”
Doran looked at his younger brother fondly. “I dunno. He’s always been like that - perceptive. He lives in his own little world.”
The scene twisted into another.
“Wait up!” Benji shouted as you both raced down a steep, rocky hill, giggling like idiots.
You remembered this day. You won the race.
As you neared the bottom, you turned, only to see your brother trip.
This was new… You didn’t remember that happening.
Expecting him to stumble off of the rock he was standing on, you lunged forward.
Only, he never fell.
You watched as your brother hovered in the air, horizontal to the ground, arm outstretched in front of him.
“Benji-”
The vision changed.
Your mom and dad whispered in the living room of your house. You watched from the crack of your bedroom door. Their whispers were rushed, panicked. You could tell something bad had happened.
“We can’t just give him to them to use as a weapon,” your father said, frustrated.
Your mother responded, frowning. “He is old enough to know what his sacrifice would mean.”
“Sacrifice?!” he whispered, astonished. “So you admit it! Handing him over is a death sentence!”
Your mother sighed. “No, that’s not what I meant.”
Your father interrupted before she could say another word. “It’s exactly what you meant! You want to send our ten year-old son to fight for the Resistance.”
Your heart sank.
"He could save millions of lives.”
“If he isn’t killed first!”
“He will be well-protected. They’ll take care of him.”
“For the wrong reasons! All they want is another weapon to use against the Order.”
“He’s already said yes.”
“He is being manipulated, and so are you!” Your father took your mother’s hands, pleading with her, begging her, for some sort of understanding. “Listen, just the other day he told me that someday, when the ships don’t fly above our house so often, he wants to study plants. That’s what he loves to do: look at the little plants, watch them grow, sprout leaves, bloom flowers… He’s just a boy. Our boy.”
She sighed. “I understand, trust me, I do… but think of all the other little girls and boys who will die if we don’t do this. I won’t be responsible for that kind of pain.”
“I just-”
“I know… but it has to be done.”
Your father looked down at the familiar dust-covered floor. His voice lowered in defeat. “The children can never know. Especially her,” he said, nodding to your bedroom. “It will put them in danger. We will tell them we sent him away until the land is safe.”
The scene changed again.
You stood in the doorway of your house. Your brother waved goodbye to you as he walked towards a small ship, hand in hand with your mother. You smiled, turning around before he did, and heading back into the house.
Why, why did you turn around? Why didn’t you keep looking for just one more second?
The scene presented itself to you over and over. You couldn’t escape it. You heard a voice, calling your name, urging you to escape your own mind.
“Hey… Hey! Wake up!”
You shot straight up from your position on the ground, panting. A face hovered over you - one you didn’t recognize. You shuffled backwards, startled.
“It’s me! It’s just me.”
You faintly recognized the voice - it was similar to one you had grown accustomed to over the past few days, except this one was less distorted and slightly higher in pitch.
“Commander?”
He nodded, looking away. Your bleary vision made it hard to see the man before you. You could discern a pair of deep, hazel eyes. They reminded you of one of father’s paintings; your favorite painting. It depicted a forest, with trees that touched the clouds and pinecones that littered the ground. You could practically smell them right through the canvas. Endless shades of green stood out against the stormy sky. It all seemed peaceful, yet full of life.
You brought yourself up onto your elbows, before scooting back towards the wall for support. You remained silent for a moment, processing the recent turn of events. You finally spoke, eyes wide, face blank.
“They killed him.”
The Commander looked back at you, confused. “Who-”
“My parents…” you interrupted, still in shock. “They killed him.”
He remained patient. “Killed who?”
“My brother,” you responded, the immensity of the secret you had just unearthed beginning to hit. Your vision became clouded, hot droplets hitting your tights. “My little brother.”
The Commander looked down, as if attempting to decipher a riddle. He spoke slowly.
“I thought you said he was killed by the Resistance.”
“He was,” you responded, running your fingers through your hair. You were angry now; angry at your parents, the Resistance, the constant wars and fighting. “But not in the way my parents described. They told me that there had been an accident . That an X-Wing crashed and he had simply been in the way. But he hadn’t just ‘been in the way’. He was on that X-Wing. The whole time they were using him - using his abilities - to help them win the war. I didn’t remember before. They must’ve done something to make me forget...”
The Commander looked at you strangely, his hazel eyes trained on yours, eyebrows furrowed in concentration.
“What a surprise,” you let out a breathy chuckle, raising your arms in exasperation. “You don’t care about any of this, do you?”
He remained still. “I never said that.”
Your emotions began to swell, and unfortunately, you projected your anger onto the Commander. “Well if you cared at all about my brother’s death, then you wouldn’t be blowing up planets on an everyday basis!”
“I have my orders,” he said, flatly.
You stood abruptly. “You can choose not to follow them! You’re no better than my parents - sending innocents off into a war that isn’t even being fought for them.”
The Commander stood and spoke with a slight irritation in his voice. “Don’t speak of things you know nothing about.”
You paused, looking him up and down. You let out a humourless chuckle, knowing you probably sounded crazy. “You think you are so powerful, hiding behind that mask. But now I know… you’re just a man. You follow blind orders and when someone calls you out on your cowardice, you throw a temper tantrum like a spoiled toddler. Do you have any thoughts of your own?”
He whipped his head towards you and spoke through clenched teeth. “If I didn’t have thoughts of my own, you would be dead right now.”
“Tell me them then!” You were yelling now. “Why would you care what happened to my brother - what happens to me? Why would you?”
“Because I was your brother!” he boomed. But his powerful voice didn’t match his eyes; they looked desperate, scared, like he was a little boy again. You took a hesitant step back. He noticed this and took a deep breath before running his hands through his hair. “I was… used for my abilities. And when they became too strong, I was perceived as a threat.”
Your mood softened, surprised by his sudden vulnerability. You searched his eyes gently. “Who thought of you as a threat? The Order?”
He looked down, his hair concealing his pained expression. The room’s red glow cast somber shadows on his face, but just for a second, you swear you saw a flicker of light dance across his face.
“You can tell me.”
He shook his head, the shadows having returned, and avoided your eyes. ‘I’ve already said too much. I’m... I’m not the only one who can read minds.’
"There is someone else? Someone like me?”
He answered immediately, facing you with a stoney stare. “No, nothing like you.” He paused, regaining his impassive composure and putting his mask back on. “You can’t know - It is not safe.”
You started to open your mouth to protest, but a blaring alarm interrupted. You jumped slightly, startled by the unexpected noise. The door to the room you were in slid open with a hiss. The Commander spun around, activating his lightsaber. You had never been this close to it before; it crackled with a furious energy that both scared and enticed you.
Your focus made its way back to the opened door, where two terrified officers now stood.
“C-Commander, General Hux wishes to see you. He- he says it is urgent.”
The Commander stalked towards the officers, lightsaber still activated. The officers shrunk into themselves, anticipating their demise.
“Leave.”
The officers nodded vigorously, before running back the way they came. The Commander turned to look back at you.
“I have to go. I will be in contact with you soon.”
“Wait, I just wanted to say...” you paused as he stopped his movement. “You only become a threat to others when you become a threat to yourself. Always remember who you are. That’s what is important - that’s what makes us powerful.”
Your eyes met his masked expression in a moment of deafening silence. You caught his focus shift to the windows behind you, the stars reflected in the black slit where his eyes had been moments before.
An image flashed before your eyes briefly, except this time, it wasn’t yours: Stars surrounded you. You could make out two gold cubes hanging from someplace above. A small hand emerged from behind you, attempting to grab the shiny objects, but it couldn’t reach them. It kept reaching, and right when you thought it was going to touch them, everything went black.
When you opened your eyes, you were alone again.

The Sword of the Solstice
Chapter 1: Dragon Duel!
There are two forces in the world of Theskyx; the Shining Light, and the All-Consuming Dark. The Light is controlled by a Being of Pure Light; known as Lathander the Holy Cat. The Dark is controlled by a Being of Pure Darkness; known as Dendar the Night Serpent.
Long ago, a great warrior of Lathander, a paladin, fought a great battle, against a force so dark that many said he wouldn't ever be defeated. A Dark Mage, seduced by Dendar's power, gathered all evil to him to join into his dark regiment, as he planned to seal the world in darkness.
But the great hero would not let him. He used his magic sword to seal The Dark Mage into an inescapable prison. But sadly, he could not keep it sealed unless he too were trapped inside it. The sword that sealed them disappeared, it whereabouts unknown.
Many adventures, mages, and creatures of all sorts, sought after it. They hoped to wield its power, for good or for ill. The sword, however could not be found. Although other legends say that the sword wasn't lost, and the Warrior and Mage are still fighting to this day.
Whichever is true, another adventure was sparked by this Sword of Legend and that is the story that I shall be telling you today. This is the story of how a small group of elves, humans and a Draconic shapeshifter, saved the world from a power that no one foresaw...
We begin our adventure in a damp cave, said by locals to hold a dragon! And it can be expected that with a dragon comes a large fortune! Our adventurers have come in search of treasure, and fame. Their party includes their rather plain looking human rogue, who is the leader, only just turning 26. He wears brown pants, knee high boots and a green tunic to match his messy green hair. Izuku Midoriya, he goes by.
Then there was their quiet, elven paladin, of the Bright Dawn; Shoto Todoroki. He is 25. He has a long blue coat, which has frilly collar, a pair of leather pants, and gold lined boots. He has a scar on his left side, from a dragon attack years ago. He once a was a Prince, before the attack. His hair has two colors, (perhaps as a result of his service as a paladin), on his right, it is ghostly white, on the other, it is blood red.
Their other travel companion, a rather angry human barbarian; Katsuki Bakugo. He too is only 26. He wears nothing but a fur cape, and leather trousers, with sandals that spiral up to his knees. He has awfully pale blond hair, that spikes up every which way. He's also known for smashing heads in, and starting fights in taverns! He's a character, to be sure!
The three of them look around the cave, Shoto (using his god's power that flows through him) makes a torch to light up the damp, dreary cave. Izuku slips into the shadows, becoming invisible to the naked eye. Katsuki sulks behind them, arms crossed. “You sure we came to the right place this time?” Katsuki asks, they had been searching for a good while now, and Katsuki was getting sick of searching. Shoto turns to face him. “The map said to go up Myki Pass, and follow along the pass to Dekuuna Road. This is the last cave that isn't on the East-West Road!”
Katsuki growls. “It better be, or I'm striking off on my own." As He says this, a loud roar echoes through the cave. Shoto pulls out his sword, and Izuku grabs one of his throwing daggers. Katsuki laughs, holding up his Warhammer, excited at the thought of a fight. “Be on guard,” Izuku warns, “we have no idea what type of dragon this is.” Dragons aren't always the fire-breathing ones. Some have ice breath, and are blue. Others still are water dragons. There are even some that are said to be shapeshifters, though they have yet to have been proven.
Shoto steps through the door, closely followed by Katsuki, and Izuku takes up the rear. They walk into a room lit by torches. Another roar resounds through the corridors. “I smell something!” A booming voice says. “Has someone entered this Domain?” Shoto looks up to see that the dragon is perched above them. He holds his arms out, making Katsuki and Izuku stop. He points up towards the dragon, and they both nod, walking back into the room they came from.
“What's the plan?" Katsuki asks. “We didn't anticipate that the dragon would be standing right above the entrance.” Izuku scratches his chin. “I should go first, as reconnaissance. If (most likely when) the dragon sees me, charge it from behind, taking as many attacks as you can while it is distracted.” Shoto bows his head. “With all due respect, Midoriya, what happens if he's a fire breather?” He touches his scar, frowning. The last thing Shoto wanted was his reckless friend to receive the same horrible fate he had, or worse.
Izuku places his hand on his friend's shoulder. “Fear not, my friend. I will be as quiet as a fox.” Katsuki sighs. “We're doomed." He says, with a groan. Shoto bows his head. “I will trust your judgment, then." He says, and Izuku nods. Katsuki growls. “Just get this dumb plan over with." he mutters. It may seem that Katsuki doesn't respect his companion, but it's quite the opposite, he is worried that this plan will fail. He knows that even though it is his profession, Izuku can be unreliable when stealthing.
Izuku sighs, and keeping to the wall of the corridor, he sneaks out into plain view of the dragon. He looks up, to see that in place of a dragon, is a young man approximately the same age as Izuku. He has red spikey hair, and is sitting shirtless on the overhang, and he wears a red scarf around his neck. “What's happened?" The red haired boy asks, most likely talking to himself. Izuku looks around for the dragon. All he can see is the entrance to another room. He frowns. Where did the dragon go? Izuku wonders. He scoots along the wall back to where Shoto and Katsuki were standing.
“Hey." Izuku whispers. “The dragon disappeared. There's a boy sitting where the dragon was!” Katsuki gasps, and Shoto clutches his sword. “That is not a boy." Shoto says. “That's a Draconic.” Shoto's village was attacked by dragons, but one was a Draconic, a man-dragon. That particular one was a fire-breather, and caused years and years of damage to his once proud kingdom. It's what made him pledge to be a paladin. He has sought after this dragon for years, to deliver the Evil One into the Divine Light.
"What are we going to do?" Katsuki asks. “I mean, can he turn back into a dragon?” Izuku taps his chin. “It seems that he was unaware of what happened." Izuku says, and Shoto nods. “From what I have learned, it seems Draconics are like Werewolves. Unaware in their human state.” Shoto frowns. “This does pose a moral problem. Is it right to attack something that is unaware of what it has done? I need time in prayer.” Katsuki growls. “We don’t have time!” Izuku places his hand on Katsuki's arm. “The Draconic is unaware of our whereabouts. We can take a moment.”
Katsuki stomps his foot, sitting down. He pouts, because he thought he was about to fight a dragon. Izuku sits down next to him. “I understand that you want to fight a dragon, but Shoto brings up a good point. How do we know that he is aware of this?” Katsuki groans. “For someone who steals for a living, you have a high standard for moral choices.” Izuku scoffs. “I prefer the term, ‘treasure hunter.’ I don't steal from other people.” Izuku had a rough childhood, full of awful hunger on the streets.
Shoto sighs. He kneels, and closes his eyes. Lathander, He prays in his head. What should I do? I can't kill an innocent man, Draconic or not. I don't want to be an oath-breaking paladin. The Draconic that destroyed my village, what if he wasn't aware? Please guide me to the Divine Light. Let me make the right decision, ease my conscience. May Dawn be yours, your faithful servant, Shoto Todoroki. A calmness settles over him, a golden glow from his Aura of Light shines around him.
Katsuki sighs. “Have you come to a decision, Light-Bringer?" He asks, standing up. Shoto folds his hands. “I believe so. You won't appreciate my decision. I want to see if we can convince the Draconic to see the Light of The Morning Lord.” Katsuki fake gags. “You're right, I hate it." Katsuki grumbles. Izuku sighs. “How about we try it Shoto's way, and if that falls, we'll kill it, um, him?” Katsuki sighs. “Fine, let's get this over with.” The three of them walked into the corridor, to see that the red haired young man was standing in the hall now.
“Oh, I have guests?" He says, frowning. Shoto walks forward, and bows. “Pardon me, my companions and I were told that a dragon resides here. The villagers said that it was destroying their crops.” The Draconic gasps. “Oh no! It's happening again!” He curls up into a ball, whimpering. “No, no, no, no, no, no, no!" He repeats, over and over again. Shoto kneels down next to him. “What is happening again?" He asks, trying to coax him to talk. The Draconic whimpers again. “The voice..." The Draconic says, grabbing Shoto's coat.
Katsuki groans. “Shoto, this person loopy. I think he's a lost cause.” Shoto places his hand on the Draconic's shoulder. “What voice?" Shoto asks. The Draconic look around the corridor. “I've been trapped here for a long time. A mage put a spell on me. I'm Draconic, you see.” He looks at Katsuki. “I'm not loopy. The mage can see in here. His voice is in my head. I can't control my changing anymore. He sends me out to destroy people that cross him. I shall never be free of him.”
Izuku walks over to the Draconic. “What is your name?" The Draconic frowns. “You need to leave, he is coming.” Katsuki growls, holding up his greatclub. “Let him! I've been waiting for a fight all day!” The Draconic winces. “Please, his presence is close. Leave while you still can.” Izuku pulls out his shortsword, Shoto flips his greatsword in his hands. The Draconic sighs. “You've signed your death sentence." Says a different voice. And from around the corner, appears a cloaked figure.
The cloak looks burned, but it appears to be a dark blue color. He pulls up the hood of his cloak, revealing his face. He has red hair, it's shape is reminisce of fire. Shoto freezes. He looks just like Father! He helped the Draconic that burned my kingdom! How is that possible? The Mage chuckles. “You seemed to have seen a ghost, child!” Shoto hands tremor. “Shoto! What's wrong?" Izuku asks. Shoto takes a shaky breath. “He's the man who helped burn my kingdom down!" Shoto says, backing up.
Izuku gasps, and rushes the Mage. The Mage chuckles. “Hello, son.” Shoto whimpers. “‘Son’?!” Izuku says, looking at Shoto. Shoto sighs. “King of Fiery Endeavors.” Shoto says. “If you have come to finish the job, spare my companions.” Katsuki swings his greatclub at the Mage. He connects with his face, sending him backwards. “Katsuki!” Izuku scolds, looking at Shoto. His hands are still shaking, his lip quivers. Lathander, guide me. How can I fight my father? He should be brought into the Light, but must I bring him into the Everlasting Light of Eternity?
Katsuki sighs. “Shoto, take the dragon boy and get yourself out of here. Whatever or wherever the spell or magical object caused this is, we’ll deal with it.” Shoto scoffs. “As a Paladin of the Morning Lord Lathander, I cannot, in good conscience, leave you behind!” The mage, King Endeavor,  laughs. “Paladin of the Morning Lord! How you have changed, my son.” Izuku points his sword at King Endeavor.
“You do not get to speak to him! Shoto, I agree with Katsuki. You need to get him away.” Shoto gasps. Izuku swings his sword at King Endeavor, and it grazes his shoulder. “Very well, Izuku. Come with me." He says, grabbing the scarf of the Draconic boy. The boy whimpers. “But!" the Draconic says, looking at King Endeavor. “He controls me! What if I destroy a village?” Shoto sighs. Katsuki takes another swing at King Endeavor, but his swing is too wild.
King Endeavor smirks, and takes out a glowing, glass ball. Shoto gasps. He had that when my village was destroyed! He convinced the Draconic not to kill me with it, perhaps it controls Draconics? Shoto pushes past Izuku and the Draconic, and casts Command on King Endeavor. “Drop." Shoto says, and King Endeavor grabs his head. Shoto’s voice whispers in King Endeavor’s head, compelling him to release the Magic Orb.
His hand shakes, and he releases the Magic Orb. He gasps, as it falls from his fingers. Shoto reaches his hand out, and catches it. He turns to face the Draconic, and throws the Magic Orb passed him. The Draconic yelps, and King Endeavor gasps. It flies across the room, and smashes against the wall. Shoto turns to King Endeavor, who is whimpering. Shoto chuckles. “That’s what controls the Draconic, right?" Shoto asks, casting his spell, Zone of Truth.
He feels that Lathander’s truthful influence takes hold of King Endeavor. “Y-yes..." King Endeavor says, and his eyes widen. “I didn’t want to say that! Why did I say that?” Katsuki, who has seen Shoto use this spell before, smiles. He knows that if you speak while this spell is in effect, you have to answer honestly. You can get out of it if you make a motion, but he figured that King Endeavor didn’t know that.
“The power of a Paladin of Light flows through me.” Shoto says, folding his hands. “Now, did that end the effect?” King Endeavor clears his throat. “Yes, it did...” He says, frowning. Izuku sheaths his sword. “Huzzah, we stopped the dragon.” He says, laughing. Katsuki shakes his head. “We may have freed the Draconic, but we don’t know if he’s not gonna murder us.” The Trio of Heroes turn to the Draconic, who frowns.
“I’m not going to murder anyone!” He protests. Shoto can sense that the spell has affected the Draconic as well. “He’s telling the truth.” Shoto says, and Katsuki sighs. “What about Mage of Evil over here?” He asks, pointing at King Endeavor. The Draconic turns to King Endeavor and changes into his dragon-form. “You have destroyed enough lives!” the Draconic’s voice booming. King Endeavor whimpers.
The Draconic breaths fire, and King Endeavor tries to dodge the blast, but he gets consumed in the flames. “Long live Dendar!” King Endeavor wheezes. Whether he intended to or not, our Trio of Heroes get caught in the blast. Shoto and Katsuki whether it, but Izuku is close to death. Once the Draconic realizes it hurt the people that were trying to free him, he turns back into a normal person, and uses a spell on Izuku, who recognizes it as Cure Wounds.
Izuku feels a lot better, thanks to the magic healing, but he still has some pain. Shoto sighs, and also uses Cure Wounds on Katsuki, making him close to fully healed. He then casts Lay On Hands on himself, making himself healed. “S-sorry!” The Draconic sutters, backing up. Katsuki laughs. “I am aware that Dragon Breath is hard to aim... I would have been more mad if you killed my companions.”
The Draconic nods, and bows. “Apologies, um, I’m Eijiro Kirishima.” He rubs his neck, looking away. Shoto walks over to King Endeavor’s ashes. “Sorry about that too.” Eijiro says, biting his lip. Shoto tilts his head and scoffs. “He needed to go to the Eternal Light, I thank Lathander that I didn’t have to smite him myself.” Shoto bows his head, holding his father's ashes in his hand. “May the Light of Lathander shine in your spirit."
He blows the ashes away, and stands up. “I suppose we’re done here, right?” He looks at Izuku, who shrugs. “We should go... best to not be connected to this. Remember what happened last time?” Katsuki groans. “Yeah, no, I do not want to repeat that.” He starts to head towards the door. Izuku follows and Shoto takes up the rear. Eijiro starts to head back to his treasure horde, but now that he is free of that Mage’s power, he has little interest in gold.
He turns around. “Wait.” He says, and they stop, Shoto turns his head. “Yes?” Izuku asks. Eijiro clears his throat. “Is there room for one more?” He asks, tugging at his scarf. Izuku looks at Shoto and Katsuki. Shoto shrugs, and Katsuki smiles. “He can turn into a dragon!” Katsuki says. “He’d be a nice addition.” Izuku nods, and smiles at Eijiro.
“Alright, I think we can be a party of four from now on.” Izuku says, and Eijiro grins, his teeth pointed. He walks over to them, and they walk out of this deary cave, and into the quiet outdoors. The sun is setting, and the road was empty. “Let’s move out, everyone." Izuku says, walking out to the road edge. Shoto follows, and then Katsuki and Eijiro, respectively.
