Something else that I'm realizing is weird about the trial (a.k.a. another clue that Something Is Up):
At various points in the trial, Louis and Claudia are compelled to stop talking when they start protesting their innocence or fighting back.
...have we ever seen ANY vampires compel anyone to do anything other than Lestat or Armand? Has anyone else in the coven shown this power off? If they have, I don't recall it.
And notably, when we've seen Lestat use it -- he also got suuuuuper fucked up in the process and started bleeding from the ears. ...which does not happen at all during the trial, as far as we've seen.
Which just leaves -- Armand.

Hello! I hope I won't sour your mood with this ask but I have been thinking a lot about your gay dogs this month especially.
I'll just try to keep the context short but in general I'm someone that has accepted being romantically undesireable. It was hard but in the end I have built my life just around me, my humble family and at this point in time I don't even think I have the time for a partner. And considering that it's the love month and a lot of people are preparing to celebrate it with their SOs I assumed that, actually, this is a thing that I sort of have in common with Machete.
From the miscellaneous lore on your profile I see Machete as someone that also has kind of rejected love. That also has built his life around his job, possibly hobbies, his family or mentors (depending if we're talking about canon or modern au). Who kind of forgot that relationships are a thing and that people bond with others in that way. Well, at least he did until meeting Vasco.
I just love thinking about their awkward beginnings. Machete being 100% sure that Vasco is just joking, maybe even sometimes teasing him (in a friendly banter type way) or just explaining to himself that all that kindness and interest is just him being a very considerate friend. And then we have Vasco that just tries to be subtle, as if he was trying to pass a fawn without it noticing and running away, but also with time gains confidence and tries more risque moves. Vasco being all smug and Machete being flustered when their hands or shoulders or tails brush in passing. And then when both are sure of their feelings we have Machete who has to choose between God and his love. Who, at first, unwillingly accepts that divine wrath will be worth their brief love.
I just love your boys. I swear they are all the love supply one might possibly need
Thank you for such a long and thoughtful message! I don't know why you thought you might accidentally sour my mood, I'm utterly delighted whenever I hear that someone has been pondering my little guys (rotating them in their head, as they say), and when they go through the trouble of sharing their findings and conclusions I'm so happy I could crawl up a wall.
I think you deciphered Machete's inner workings very well, especially those of the original canon version. The concept of love is of course prominent in Christianity, so even as a kid being raised in a religious environment that discouraged overt displays of affection and close personal bonds, Machete wasn't completely alienated from it. But it has always been a nebulous, unperceivable and unattainable thing for him. When he was old enough to lock down his career choice he readily accepted he'd never have romantic relationships, spouse or a family, and I think he must've been too young and socially inexperienced to think of it as a significant loss. Either he consciously blocked out the need for companionship by studying and working like his life depended on it, or he didn't really consider that being genuinely befriended, appreciated and loved as a person instead of a respectable and competent authority figure was even an option for him, at least not until Vasco came along.

I've been trying and trying and trying to get back into fandom shitposting and metas and writing—escaping and finding some enjoyment in being here, but I just… can't. Fandom seems so unimportant now. What's the point of getting invested in any it? None of it's real, none of it truly affects our lives. And it doesn't change the real world; it doesn't change that so many people have died and are dying still—or that those I thought would protect Jews are engaging in the very tactics the Nazis and so many before them used to justify their genocides against us. I'm struggling to find the motivation to do anything besides wallow in the pain of losing family members, the slaughter of my people, and the danger posed to me, personally, within the diaspora. To be honest, finding any joy in life feels futile and wrong.
And this is why I'm so angry at all the random goyishe fandom blogs posting about how evil white Israeli colonizers control the world and are lying about what happened to them (but also how it would totally okay if had happened, since they deserve it). Because these supposed progressives? It's all performative bullshit for them. It doesn't affect their lives in any actual way. They can post about how (((Israelis))) are the real baby killers; they can deny the murder of Jewish children and rape while in the same breath claiming it would be justified if it was true. They can parrot every Nazi talking point in all but name, from Blood Libel to Holocaust Denial to the Elders of Zion, and still believe they are on the side of social justice. Then they can go back to their petty fandom drama feeling good about themselves and forget all about it, while everyone I love and everyone like us suffers the consequences of their actions for years to come. We'll live with the trauma and the pain and the loss—and they'll go on with their lives feeling morally superior to the people they intentionally, callously hurt.
Just... fuck them.

i keep seeing people getting a little confused about the titles and terms used in rotbb so i thought id make a quick little guide on the more common titles and pre/suffixes used in the novel/manhwa
for minor context, members of a sect may take on the names that denote which generation they come from within the sect (current mount hua consists of, in order from eldest to youngest, the hyun line, the un line, the baek line, and the chung line, though the true generational naming convention would have typically been chung > myung > hyun > un > baek, which would then repeat in a cycle) however taking on a generational name isnt necessarily required/enforced (ex. yu iseol, yoon jong, jo gul, etc do not take on generational names)
in his previous life, because chung myung was raised in the sect since infancy, he took on the chung generational name as his ‘birth’ name, as the chung line was the generation he was raised in. when he reenters mount hua post resurrection, he becomes a third class disciple, aka the current era chung disciples
TITLES
jangmun: sect leader, jangmun'in is used when speaking directly to the sect leader (ex. hyun jong, chung mun)
sasuk: senior martial brother, used by disciples of a different rank to senior disciples of higher ranking (ex. the chung disciples referring to the baek disciples, the baek/chung disciples referring to the un disciples)
sajil: junior martial brother, used by disciples of a different rank to junior disciples of a lower ranking (ex. the un disciples referring to the baek/chung disciples, the baek disciples referring to the chung disciples)
sasukjo: great martial uncle, used by disciples referring to the line above sasuk
sajo: martial grandparent/ancestor
sason: martial grandchild/descendant
sahyung: senior martial brother, used by disciples within the same rank to disciples who entered the sect earlier than them (aka chung myung referring to the elder chung disciples, chung disciples referring to yoon jong)
sajae: junior martial brother, used by disciples within the same rank to disciples who entered the sect after them (ex. the chung disciples referring to the chung disciples)
sajeo: senior martial sister, same as sahyung but used for women
sago: senior martial sister, same as sasuk but used for women (ex. tang soso referring to yu iseol)
samae: junior martial sister, same as sajae but used for women (ex. baek cheon referring to yu iseol)
dojang: disciple (ex. older characters use this to refer to chung myung/disciples of a sect)
hyung: meaning older brother, used by males when referring to their older brother or to an older male colleague one is friendly with
hyeonja-bae: referring to the hyun generation
unja-bae: referring to the un generation
baekja-bae: referring to the baek generation
cheongja-bae: referring to the chung generation
maehwa geomjon: plum blossom sword saint
hwasan shinryong: mount huas divine dragon
amjon/amzone: dark saint
maknae: used to refer to the youngest person in a group of people
PRE/SUFFIXES
-ah: a suffix that denotes casual familiarity typically used for those who are younger than the speaker or are of the same social standing, used at the end of a name if the name ends in a consonant (ex. hyun jong calls chung myung ‘chung myung'ah’)
-ya: a suffix that denotes casual familiarity typically used for those who are younger than the speaker or are of the same social standing, used at the end of a name if the name ends in a vowel (ex. chung myung calls tang bo ‘tang bo'ya’)
-nim: a respectful suffix that essentially means mr/mrs/miss
dosa: meaning taoist (ex. tang bo typically refers to chung myung as hyung nim/dosa hyung/dosa hyung nim)
-jon: a title given to martial artists who have mastered their respective martial arts perfectly, the most honourable title a warrior could get, translated to as ‘saint’ in the novel or 'supreme' in the manhwa (ex. plum blossom sword saint, dark saint)
please keep in mind however im not fluent in korean nor am i fully familiar w these terms of address and am using my knowledge of chinese honorifics and titles as they follow a similar formula.. if ive mislabeled something or used an unfaithful/misleading description, or if you just have more to add that i havent listed, please lmk!

I too would love a Haymitch POV, but you know what POV I'd love to see in sunrise? Haymitch's mentor.
Allegedly, at least according to the Capitol, there's no previous victor of district 12, so I'm assuming the mentor must be Capitol-assigned. However, other districts like 1 and 2 will have had countless of winners after 49 games, in fact I'm guessing most districts will have victors as mentors. But not district twelve, not yet.
I wonder how it would feel, as a Capitol citizen, to be so excited to be assigned a mentor position, to dress up all flashy for it and to then sit in a room filled with anxious, deeply traumatized people watching what you consider the Eurovision of your youth as they quietly despise every second of it and watch in horror as you laugh and clap. It must be so strange, so isolating and uncanny, so unlike everything you've ever known to hear these victors' snide comments towards the gamemakers, their ungratefulness for what they've gotten from their own victories and their unfiltered hatred that hides behind the famous, glorious personas you know them as. Every second in the training center with your two tributes, in the moments shared with your fellow mentors as they gear up to talk to sponsors as if they're readying for battle, it all leaves small cracks in the worldview you've gotten so comfortable with for all your life.
Yeah, I truly wonder how that mentor must feel.
