Even if it is a being of deception and replacement, which is...kind of supposed to do that? Well, it's not like 42's body was its own.

There's definitely something hidden between the lines 42 just said. It may be saying the truth about not getting to humans often, but 42 never mentioned what it feels about the human flesh. But it might be obvious. At least 42 is not addictive to it. Because if it was...42 wouldn't have been so elusive in the first place. It would've probably even died at some point.
