BARRICADE ( Deluxe ) Movie Studio Series GAMER EDITION 02

In mezzo alle riproposte dei personaggi di War for Cybertron nella nuova veste di Studio Series Gamer Edition, per fortuna spunta un modellino inedito, non apparso nelle linee di giocattoli contemporanee all'uscita dei videogiochi dove questi personaggi apparivano, ovvero BARRICADE, il poliziotto cattivo nato e portato alla fama nel primo film dal vivo dei Transformers del 2007.

Anzi no, anche se ormai associamo quel nome a quel personaggio, a dire il vero un Barricade esisteva già sin dalla G1, nella forma di un Micromaster fucsia ed azzurro che diventava un'auto da F-1, e questa versione videoludica pare ispirarsi più a lui, ma non nei colori, col nero e grigio scuro che richiamano di più quello cinematografico.

Se i vari design dei WfC del videogioco li ho sempre trovati innovativi ma comunque reminiscenti dei personaggi G1 cui si ispiravano, giocoforza non avendo un corrispettivo definito questo Barricade mi è sempre parso un po' anonimo, e per questo non mi ha mai attirato tanto, a veder le foto in rete di questo modellino seppur inedito, ma una volta dal vivo il ROBOT finalmente palesa il suo carisma latente, con una figura bella solida.

Il nostro è riportato fedelmente dal modello in CGI del gioco, appunto con un grigio scuro che si sposa col nero principali ed i però pochi tocchi di viola, sopratutto sulle ruote, cui ci tornerò nel veicolo.

La parte peggiore si sicuro sono i piedi, un po' troppo grandi e piatti, e se la forma grossomodo è quella a guardar il concept in CGI, la fregatura sta nei talloni corti che tendono a far cadere all'indietro il robot con un nonnulla. Non scherzano nemmeno le ruote ai lati delle anche, anche loro fedeli al design del personaggio, e citazione degli stessi particolari nel Micromaster G1 omonimo, ma volendo queste si possono abbassare sotto le ginocchia, come farà anche il suo remold del generico Decepticon Soldier uscito in seguito.

Anche la forma della testa è presa dal Micromaster, ed anche per questo però il nostro mi risultava banale dato che sembra essere un Megatron dei poveri con quel casco nero tondeggiante, ma vabbè, magari è solo un problema mio. ^^'

Comunque, interessante è la zainata sulle spalle che rispecchia l'effettiva schiena del personaggio nel videogioco, con scolpito il reattore che sarà nel retro del veicolo, e sotto cui si può sistemare a riposo l'unico accessorio / arma, una mitraglietta leggera che, come negli altri Gamer Edition SS di WfC, si fa usare al robot sostituendola all'avambraccio destro.

E come per gli altri GE di questa prima wave, a parte Optimus, pure lui però non ha poi nessun posto dove appendere l'avambraccio tolto; come posabilità sulla carta non siamo messi male, con tanto di rotazioni di polsi e bacino e tutto il resto del pacchetto tranne l'inclinazione laterale delle caviglie, MA quando dicevo sopra che la figura è solida non scherzavo, nel senso che le articolazioni sono davvero dure, che si fa fatica anche a ruotar la testa, così come la zainata e le ruote sulle cosce summenzionate sono d'impiccio per i movimenti del robot.

Peccato infine che non abbia nessun altro accessorio arma bianca come gli altri colleghi sempre della prima wave.

La TRASFORMAZIONE non è nulla di nuovo e si è già vista in millemila altri, ma per questo Barricade si sposa molto bene, con i piedi che si richiudono verso l'alto, le ruote sulle cosce si abbassano ed il bacino ruota mentre salgono i pannelli sui polpacci per formare la parte anteriore e centrale del veicolo, mentre le mani rientrano negli avambracci e si abbassano le spalle con le braccia che diventano le parti laterali, ed infine la zainata sulla schiena si dispiega rivelando la parte superiore posteriore ottimamente nascosta che si posiziona al suo posto.

L'AUTO CYBERTRONIANA risultante non ha nulla dell'eventuale auto della polizia del Barricade dei film, così non ricorda manco da lontano un'auto da F1 come il Micromaster, ma è comunque davvero bella e sopratutto grande, quasi fosse un Voyager.

La forma è stilizzata al limite del giocattoloso ma contenuta dalla colorazione grigio e nera, con tocchi di viola ed argento, MA un po' rovinata dalla banalità delle ruote tutte nere e con l'aggancio alla "sorpresina da ovetto kinder", laddove sarebbe stato il massimo averle in plastica trasparente viola o almeno con qualche linea sempre viola.

Bello il paraurti aggressivo frontale ed i reattori sul retro; magari avrebbe giovato esteticamente aver le ruote posteriori più grandi, ma va bene anche così. Niente male il simbolone di fazione sul cofano, ed ovviamente l'arma ( che a guardar il videogioco dovrebbe essere un po' più grande a paragone ) può piazzarsi subito dietro il tettuccio o "nascosta" sempre nel retro.

Di certo è un salto nel passato in quel periodo e con quello stile di veicoli creati per i videogiochi del dittico Cybertroniano, così come aiuta l'essere inedito come modellino rispetto ai colleghi, e quindi ha quasi più carisma così che come robot!

Insomma, un bel modellino da scoprire, per chi magari come me ad una visione superficiale non dice chissà cosa, e al solito peccato per quei difetti succitati, ovvero le ruote anonime e la posabilità un po' soffocata, ma di certo sulla mensola fa una bella figura insieme agli altri Decepticon di WfC. ^^

Prowl is from Petrex in IDW Only.

He is from Praxus in Dreamwave, TFP, and WFC for sure. He and several other who share his frame such as Barricade, Bluestreak, and Smokescreen have been referred to as the Praxian collection or listed from Praxus by Hasbro.

Dreamwave comics named Prowl's home town Praxus during his meet up with Grimlock with Jazz accompanying him. Bluestreak was also made Praxian in Dreamwave though the massacre of his home city was established as early as 1980s and grew more detailed as time went on including him being the only survivor and what fanon calls the "Fall of Praxus" originates from the Dreanwave novels which detail it from his and Megatron’s POVs.

Mirage’s CyberWorld tech specs dropped.

So two things stick out about his profile: his motormouth and independent agent.

So here’s the thing about G1 Mirage: he’s a slightly snobbish rich guy dragged into the war and he can turn himself invisible. That’s kinda about it.

Mirage was originally meant to use hologram trickery in addition to invisibility, but Hound wound up being the hologram guy.

Mirage’s other defining trait is his seeming willingness in being a traitor. A misunderstanding and some mind control shenanigans with the Insecticons briefly saw Mirage turn traitor but all was forgiven by episode end.

The idea of Mirage possibly being a Decepticon in some form stuck for a while with RiD01 referencing it with their Mirage (who is a different character in Japanese called Counter Arrow), with Mirage donning on a Decepticon color to schmeckledorf some Decepticons in WFC.

Early on in IDW, Mirage featured in an awkward what if scenario where in another universe, he was a Decepticon that helped push back the nearly decimated Autobot faction to the brink. The awkwardness was suggesting this alternate reality could be possible with late stage IDW1 clearly debating on if it should do something with Mirage like that, but ultimately decided against it.

Mirage’s big return was in RotB, becoming the new kid appeal character, where he’s partnered with human ally Noah.

Their friendship, along with Mirage becoming friends with Noah’s kid brother, bonding over Sonic the Hedgehog, is what the Maltos… should have been…, but their bond along with Mirage’s more wise fracking homie personality seemed to be a hit (just too bad the film wasn’t).

While it was used in Netflix WFC, it was RotB that revived Mirage’s move set in full, allowing him to use holograms once more.

And he used them to great effect to boot.

So all these previous aspects combined seem to be what CW Mirage is: a freelance agent with a powerful bag of tricks at his disposal that will work for the Autobots or Decepticons… for the right price.

Due to current events…

Mirage being a well meaning but out of his element old money rich guy isn’t the best direction right now, same with Prowl, Strongarm, Chase, Barricade and other police robos….

So Mirage lending out his services for payment is a cute way to tie into that, though it makes me wonder what he’s getting paid in. Presumably Energon, but considering loot crates and any potential in game currency like Sonic’s Rings, Mario’s Coins or Donkey Kong’s Bananas we’ve yet to see, Mirage could easily have expensive tastes, forcing the Autobots to go on a side quest for him as games are want to do.

But considering the format, they probably don’t have time to mess with that as much.

At most I see a brief “arc” of Mirage coming and going, helping both factions, but he’ll be more Autobot adjacent and join Optimus, maybe passing it off as Megatron’s point system bouncing on him when he cashed in.

In terms of homages, this Mirage seems to be an amalgam of his G1 and RiD01 selves visually.

Why he’s a jet in particular, I can’t say though presumably he might be used both for air superiority when Starscream inevitably appears, and/or he’s used more for aerial reconnaissance since no one among the main groups, as of typing, can fly in Robot Mode (yet).

Sorry for screaming at you again but what are your opinions on barricade? The police car decepticon from the bayverse movies?

He hasn’t been given good cards in stuff since the movies, but I think with the right writer, he could grow to be a genuinely great character!

He was in the WFC (Netflix) trilogy, he didn’t look a lot like his movie self, just a decepticon prowl.

He was also voiced by Kieth David in the 2007 movie’s “Decepticons” ds game, look it up on YouTube, whoever was writing COOKED on that one for some fucking reason lol

But, yeah, what are your thoughts on him?

He's interesting!!!! Especially since he's one of the few reoccurring decepticons throughout bayverse, a continuity well known for killing off the decepticons like candy

I honestly can't believe that a soggy, tasteless void of tedium and boring designs called Barricade managed to escape the clutches of the Bayverse and become a mainstay character in the franchise. (He even has a chance of appearing in an animated show 🤢).

Edit: WFC exists 🤮!!

All that while the GOAT, NITRO ZEUS, is doomed to eternal obscurity.

Was Praxus destroyed by other antagonists in your au? Or was it still the Decepticons?

Praxus hasn't been mentioned yet in my continuity.

It's surprising how prevalent its destruction is within the fandom. It's one of those things from Dreamwave that really stuck with people, I think. And that's the continuity that mainly mentions its destruction as being major. It is only a side note in Aligned, but within the Fandom, it is mentioned often. I found it interesting because it took me a while to trace where the concept came from.

As for my story, Bluestreak and her family are from there. She routinely writes to her family about how she is doing and has a pretty expansive group of elective kin. Praxus won't be destroyed early in the war like it has been. But it will come up and be mentioned. It gets tied up in the Autobot Schism. The Decepticons will not be destroying it.

EDIT: I just wanted to correct. The Fall of Praxus was not actually mentioned in WFC Trilogy. It is just mentioned on Barricade and Prowl’s toy info page that their home city was destroyed. They show only mentions Praxus put bombs in peoples heads.

So I had a really weird, random transformers concept idea pop up

So I had this idea that i just got yesterday and kept thinking about. similar to RID2015's motif of all the decepticons being animal themed, this series would have the theme of the Decepticons be based off the universal classic monsters. literally this whole idea came from a pic where someone showed that wfc megatrons arm could be swapped with primes because of the weapon gimmick. and i was like, oh megatron with a different arm is cool, what if he had many salvaged parts, like frankenstein. so yeah i just rolled with and kept developing that concept, fell down the rabbit hole a bit and so here's what i have so far.

the plot is that at the height of the war, shockwave tricks megatron into leading a crew of cons mostly loyal to him on a fools errand looking for an energy source, so he can gain command of the deceptions. ending up marooned on earth in the scheme, they spend years there, attempting to first conquer humanity, then hide from them after being repeatedly overwhelmed and many killed, and finally to simply survive. badly damaged and no longer caring for their goals, infighting finally causes them to all go rogue to survive in their own ways. after the end of the war, optimus leads a crew of autobots to investigate and possibly capture megatron after learning of his fate when shockwave was defeated. the autobots role then would basically be monster hunters, attempting to remain in hiding on earth, with the help of Mikaela Banes, to hunt down the now monstrous decepticons

megatron-primarily based on the Frankenstein monster, he'd be surviving now as a grotesque patchwork of parts from his fallen warriors to stay alive(also partially based on DOTM design). he still maintains his drive to dominate and cunning and continues to manipulate events from the shadows, also sorta making him a bit of dr frankenstein as well. bots he'd def have parts incorporated from would include thundercracker, blackout, demolishor, flamewar.

nightbird would be based on the bride of frankestein, owing to her original origin, she will have been made by megatron from parts scavenged from shadow striker, slipstream and flamewar.

barricade would be based on igor, having been badly crippled and still faithfully aiding megatron as his crony. he secretly has the statsis locked bodies of rumble and frenzy hidden away, which he has one-sided conversations with.

starscream would play up his g1 trait and be a spark ghost, frequently haunting/tormenting megatron but also keeping tabs on the other cons and watching/harassing the autobots.

soundwave would be based on the phantom of the opera, with half his head being melted/badly damaged, he now hides in the sewers and composes his own music which he anonymously broadcasts to the human city above. he is also going insane as his damage means his mind reading abilities are always active and hearing all the humans minds. he also refuses to free his cassettes from his chest out of paranoia that they may either betray or abandon him.

skywarp would be based on the invisible man, his body having been rendered virtually nonexistent by previously being overloaded when attempting to teleport, he wears makeshift armor(made from jet parts and based on the armada version) to be seen and hold together his barely existing physical form.

reflector would be based on the classic zombie horde; he/they created far too many copies/clones at once, spreading the shared consciousness too thin until it snapped, leaving them all bereft of any higher consciousness, only barely living functions like stunted mobility and desire to find energy, as well as brain modules from other bots to potentially restore their own mind.

shatter, would be based on dracula, after a failed experiment in augmenting the decpeticons energy processing abilities, became a ravenous energy vampire, compulsively sucking off raw energy sources to survive, including other bots.

sixshot would be based on a werewolf, having lost control of his savage and now independent wolf mode, which he cannot resist switching to at random times.

spittor would be based on the creature of the black lagoon, with his look and traits based off his tfa version but to a greater extent. he now also has a proper frog alt mode, though a grotesque one.

cyclonus would be based on the mummy, having been supposedly killed by the humans and bound in titanium wrapping and dumped underground to be forgotten. he eventually stirs from statsis lock, his mind deteriorated and his body barely functioning and only held together by the bindings, and goes out to seek warped revenge on humans and transformers alike.

Bonecrusher, based on his movie version, would just be like a wild engine of destruction, very much a jason vorhees type.

blackarachnia, with a tfa design, would be also mutated into a technorganic which is treated more as her being this biomechanical abomination, somewhat inspired by the Metaluna Mutant.

snapdragon and apeface would be based on godzilla and king kong respectively, and be like mini kaiju who consistently feud in beast mode and destroy the same city over and over.

the insecticons are now feral insect types who have built a large underground hive.

the autobots would consist of optimus prime, ironhide(movieverse based), red alert(tfa based), jazz, bulkhead, mirage, hashtag(earthspark based), bumblebee, cliffjumper, whirl, knockout(rotf based) and wheeljack(dotm body design and personality, but with typical colors and head design). optimus, jazz, bee and cliff would have overall design and traits based on their wfc/foc designs, simply just if they now had earth mode features.
