#what happened to isak and jonas?

Isak. 

I slowly roll the name across my tongue over and over again, a smile blooming as the butterflies multiply in my belly. I climb down from the top of my bunk bed, landing on my feet with a heavy thud. Quickly rolling my chair across the floor to lean against the open closet, I climb on top of it, holding on to the door so as not to fall down. 

I pull out the black shoe box hiding behind my old ski pants I haven’t worn in years, losing my balance as the seat swings to the side, nearly crashing with the floor.

I flop down at the bottom of my bunk bed and lean my back against the wall, then carefully open the shoe box and pull out a clipping from the local newspaper from last fall. 

Isak stands with a gold medal around his neck, a football under one arm, the other raised in triumph, eyes big and smile broad. I stare blissfully at the picture before kissing his face gently, butterflies swirling around my belly like they’re dancing to a music video on MTV. 

I’m not sure, but I think he likes me. And not just as a friend, but maybe as something more? Maybe the way that makes you want to kiss someone and hold hands. Maybe the same way I’ve heard rumored about Freddie Mercury, the vocalist in Queen. 

I love Queen, love the performance they had at Live Aid in 1985. I love Freddie Mercury in tight jeans and a singlet. But most of all, I love Isak Valtersen. 

On Sunday I went to school with Yousef and Mutasim. They wanted to skate since the national ban had finally been repealed. I don't skate, it looks so scary, and when I got bored of watching them, I walked over to the football field next to the school to look for Isak. I often see him there with his best friends Jonas, Magnus and Mahdi playing football. 

That afternoon he was there all by himself, repeatedly shooting against the wide open goal. Just when I was about to call his name, he spotted me. He ran towards me, greeting me with a shy smile. 

We talked for a long time, leaning up against the fence. Isak told me about a cool old Nintendo Game & Watch he’d gotten from his mum and I told him about the movie Cinema Paradiso I forced Mikael to watch with me last week. 

As we were saying goodbye to each other, something absolutely magical happened. Without looking Isak pushed his pinky against mine, gently brushing his finger over mine. A tingling sensation raced through me, turning my legs into jello and quickly short circuiting my brain. I couldn’t speak and my heart pounded so fast I started to worry it might explode. 

When I managed to somewhat gain control of my body again, I glanced at him. He didn’t say anything, just bit his lower lip and sent me that same shy smile. His dark red cheeks took my breath away and all I could do was smile back.

1989 is a story I posted in Norwegian on AO3 back in 2018. It's honestly one of the stories I've written that I'm most proud of.

I've translated it into English so more people can read it. @alterlove2021 is my trusted beta and has done magic to the story, sanding down the rough edges and polishing it, making it shine like a diamond.

It's not the 25th just yet, but since I have no chill what so ever, I decided to post a little sneak peak here on Tumblr along with some art I made for the story.

* jotting down some thoughts from old wtFock, seasons 1-3 .... (part 1)

1. Jana

Pros- Jana + Robbe (Belgium Eva + Isak); Girlsquad minus Amber; Zoe + Jana/Zoe + Yasmina/Luca + Yasmina; the first appearance of Senne/Senne + Zoe scenes

Cons- Jana + Jens (Belgium Eva + Jonas), lol

*couldn't remember anything from this og season and the first few eps were fun, then I got annoyed at how the main couple story seemed to drag on; overall it was average-i don't think they changed much and the story was fine, but nothing really blew me away

2. Zoe

*I don't remember much from this og season (gonna be honest, before this, I don't think I finished Noora's season ever, because I can't stand William, lol, and I didn't realize until now).

Pros- Senne feels like a more likeable version of William to me [basing even off of the earlier episodes before both Senne/William's development]. (+ Senne at the beginning of wtFOCK is even still better than William at the end of Skam OG).

Cons- I LOVE Zoe + Senne, but the early ep conflict of her going on a date with him and being in denial is honestly so stupid. It seems like such a simple issue in the world of Skam in comparison to the other seasons for every reimagination. (But I know the later conflicts are gonna break me).

More in depth appreciation of Senne and Zoe

Senne: There were only a few moments in season 1 + early season 2 where I questioned him, but there's just charm and development to Senne that fleshes him out and actually made me love this couple by the end. They don't water down parts of "Senne" that are truly important to his whole "bad boy" personality-like later on (s3) his instinctual crutch of violence towards his brother or his smart-ass comments in season 1, but they also don't make him just a terrible boyfriend like og.

Zoe: could throw water in someone's face for no reason and I would still love her (I'm watching s4 rn although she doesn't do that, so this is kind of in line). She's not perfect and a lot of her push-back with Senne (mainly) can be really unreasonable, but that's what makes her her. I feel like she comes off as more stubborn than og Noora, but I honestly love it and there's subtle changes to her characterization that back it up. She's one of the most headstrong Nooras (obv all of them have this trait), and she's someone that is gonna move in a way that seems proactive to her (ex: her taking the plan B pill before even knowing what happened to her). The only minor thing I thought at one point is that we didn't get enough of Zoe's perspective on things (there are a lot of characters and it's great to see them, but sometimes certain interactions felt it took away in some way, idk). She was just a character I knew I would love immediately in season 1 [& she's great, but as I go on, I do think the writers kind of diminish her potential in some way (even certain choices in s2), but idk how to explain it-although it doesn't ruin her character at all for me, there's just minor minor differences than how she seemed].

Zoenne: I love how they are so different in their points of view; they each are strong in their opinions and it's not resolved too quickly. I honestly see both povs, which is how it should be. And in season 3, I wasn't even mad at the break up (even though it didn't last long)-they are the only Noorhelm imo to address the problem between them (with them being so young + why love's not enough), not make it the end of the world, and still get back together at a later time.

wtFOCK likes to dramatize a lot of their scenes, but for me it works in Zoe's season.

Examples: 1) the text from Senne's brother at the end of the episode revealing the pictures he took per the glass drop; 2) the Senne finds out scene I felt was better directed and acted than the og scene, giving a more emotional feel and lead up to the hallway confrontation in ep 10

other things: Amber is one of the worst Vildes in terms of ignorance, however they've done well with her development and not resolving her problems too quickly [I just know I'll eat my words come season 4/5]. Her seemingly heightened naivety against the other "Vildes" makes so much sense in this scenario.

2 is definitely my fav wtFock season

...not sure I'll watch Season 4, cause I know it's gonna piss me off more than Imane's, but maybe I'll continue for Yasmina only

hello dear sleepy! i promise i'm not intentionally ignoring your asks, i am just very tired all the time, which makes it difficult to accomplish tasks.

my editor/dear friend nat requested a "snowy mountain love story" for the second time and this time i decided to indulge her. (i mean, last time i indulged her too and we developed the story, but i couldn't figure out where to start it so it's sitting there waiting to be written.)

anyways here's a brief description of snowy wip:

bad guy (Andrin) tries infiltrates fancy party to kill the king (Jonas) and marry the princess (Livia) (king's sister, second in line for throne) to he can take control of the kingdom

Jonas sneaks Livia out of the palace at the last minute via escape tunnel but stays behind to deal with Andrin and protect the other people in the palace

Livia hires trio of smugglers (Mathias, Gemma, Isak) to escort her across a dangerous mountain range to the neighbouring kingdom where she'll be safe while

Livia befriends the smugglers, maybe develops mutual romantic feelings with Mathias 👀 (Mathias and Gemma are siblings, Gemma and Isak are married, really she's saving him from being a third wheel for the rest of his life)

Livia fails to tell the three smugglers that she's a princess until it's revealed by her reuniting with her younger brother (Bastian) in the neighbouring kingdom

this causes Problems in their new friendship/budding romantic relationship

they have to get Jonas out of his sticky situation but idk how that happens yet ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ 

a collection of fun facts:

Livia's full name is Louisa Lavinia Manon Ackert-Kasteler

she is the second of five children (Jonas, her, Bastian, Mika, and Kea)

none of the Ackert-Kasteler children are married/in a steady relationship which stresses out their mother to no end

Andrin is a criminal & thug playing at being a lord, obtained his wealth and title in very sketchy ways, and is trying to steal the throne by force bc Livia turned him down at a tournament two years earlier

i am already attached to these characters and i hope you all enjoy them too :)

im now 100% sure i originally stopped watching s4 after episode 5 LOL which was kinda real of me cause this season was umm a mess

i do believe s1 and s3 are masterpieces. s2 and s4 on the other hand have…some issues

why is yousef going to turkey.

i think yousef not being muslim is a really good plotline i just wish it had been given a proper amount of focus. because i dont want sana to compromise her beliefs obviously. but at the same time im sitting here thinking as a muslim i love islam but i dont agree with lots about it and i dont think that makes you a bad person necessarily. but i do think yousef goes to turkey and regains his faith and converts back for sana ❤️ because they are true love ❤️

having finished all of s4 i think that i am…glad i finally watched it all? there were a lot of good parts about this season but even if the end of episode 8-episode 10 made me satisfied when i reflect on what happened before that i get so irritated.

i really love episode 10, but if it was going to happen this way then all the other episodes should have been far more focused on sana. for me rather than wrapping things up episode 10 instead emphasizes that there’s way more story to tell here and that there should have been 6 seasons…but whatever…

i think this season did a lot of good & what im most glad about is that it avoided the whole western stereotype about muslim parents & sana’s family was great. if we could cut out half the noora stuff, develop sana and yousef further, GIVE YOUSEF SCREENTIME, give jamila more screentime also, pick up the dropped storylines about elias, have the girl squad actually interact (and have sana interact with chris and eva and vilde not just noora…she and noora are obviously close but why tf are there like no scenes of sana talking with the others alone), have the balloon squad and even properly talk, have even explain things, have sana and even interacting, remove half the annoying russ bus stuff, remove that terrible terrible sara plotline, and follow through on the ideas present in the first 4 episodes of the show. then. this could have been a really great season. as it is i have my criticisms but i did cry and i do love them. sana <3

I have recently decided to rewatch SKAM (OG) again. After my experience in the YR fandom and all the indepth analysis everyone does. I am just thinking so much more about little different things I see happening in all the shows I watch.

I am wondering if anyone has any insight or analysis on Isak and Jonas. Specifically in relation to people calling Isak, the things he does or the things he likes gay, before he has come out.

In season one when Isak requests Jonas to play "I'm Yours", he comments that it is a "gay song". Then when Elias comes join them at the cabin he complains about sharing the room/bed with "the gay guy". Isak asks why everyone insists on calling him gay, to which Elias responds "because you are".

In season 3 the boys on many occasions call him out for how he is acting in regards to Emma, "what are you? Gay?"

Then in the scene where the boys are watching the girls dancing, and Isak makes a comment about the guy doing the audition being "so gay" Jonas looks appalled that Isak would even say such a thing.

Like was there off screen character growth from Jonas? He never defends Isak when others make comments about him, even made comments like this himself... Even when I first watched the series I remember being confused where Jonas's reaction came from.

I know back in that time it was just something people would say, "that's so gay", and Isaks comment was quite a bit harsher but still. It just seems like a 180 in Jonas's attitude to me. Maybe something is lost in translation? (English is the only language I am fluent in) Maybe it is just that simple difference in the harshness.

If anyone has thoughts I'd love to hear! Or, as this series is from years ago, if you know of any existing posts where someone has discussed these things please link them!

Chapter 4: Straight from the Cat’s Tongue 

How are you supposed to react when two of your best friends vanish and no one will tell you anything? You keep saying they have to be okay and you have to believe it but as the hours go by, it’s getting harder and harder to believe. I feel like I shouldn’t even be writing this to you, but I know you want an update since I haven’t posted in the few days. This is officially my notice of hiatus. I love you, my readers, so much but I can’t talk about who wore what or interview any guests right now. I’m sorry. This isn’t goodbye forever. It’s just goodbye for now.

              Magnus read over his post for the hundredth time. The view count kept going up and the comments section was flooded, but for once he could care less about how popular his blog was. His heart wasn’t in it. It wasn’t even into the waffle sitting in front of him, that Mahdi had made twenty minutes ago, now soggy under the deflated whipped cream. He wasn’t sure if Mahdi had actually expected him to eat it or just needed someone to make one for. Ever since their friends had gone missing he’d started a buy one, get one free promotion just so he would never have to stop working.

              Up until now, Magnus hadn’t shown any sign less than hope. He had to pretend to be strong every time he went to check on Even. He couldn’t imagine what Even felt like. He wasn’t just missing a friend, but the love of his life. Magnus knew it would be hard for anyone. He felt obliged to be the friend that went over there to check on the other man. He wanted to make sure that Even was still taking his medication and that things weren’t getting too bad. He knew what his mother had been like when her sister passed away a couple years back and he didn’t want to see his friend spiral in the same way. Isak would want Even to be okay.

              Thinking about Isak and Even’s epic love story made him miss Vilde. It had been three years now. He should have been over it. That explosive night shouldn’t have mattered anymore. But it did. It still did to him. They had both said things and he’d tried to help her, but she had pushed him away. The fact that he was cheating on him wasn’t the biggest shock it was that—

              “Mahdi!” Magnus snapped out of his thoughts as he heard a familiar voice echo through the empty restaurant. He turned to see Sana Bakkoush, standing in all her glory at the door. Behind her were Eva, Chris and Noora. They looked like Charlies Angels, all together, beautiful and always ready to kick ass. His stomach sank. The absence of their fifth member made the whole scene feel off. Maybe that’s what made everything feel even more serious to him.

              Mahdi walked around the counter to see the four girls. “Noora, Sana, Chris and Eva? What are you all doing here? Did you come for the special?”

              Chris nodded, prompting Noora to nudge her as she shook her head. Sana stood tall. She didn’t waste any time to get to her point, “Do you have any enemies you want to tell us about?”

              “What?” Mahdi asked. Magnus was lost now. Good. He’s just as confused as I am.

              “Isak was in your car,” Sana said as if it was the most obvious thing ever.

              “And?”

              “Do you think anyone was looking for you instead?”

              Mahdi was taken aback by this statement. Magnus couldn’t say he had expected it either. He hadn’t thought about it that way. Mahdi replied, “No. No, there’s no one that would. I don’t have any- no. There can’t be.”

              “No hell-bent pancake restaurant ready to take out the competition?” Chris offered.

              “No,” Mahdi replied, firmer this time. “I don’t have any enemies.”

              “But does Jonas?” Eva asked, just loud enough for everyone to hear. It was more of a thought escaped her lips that an actual question, but it was more than a fair point.

              “Jonas is a protester. He finds a cause and he won’t stop until everyone’s heard it. There was an anti-capitalist rally in Sweden and it turned into a bit of a riot. He got in an argument with a police officer, so they said he resisted arrest.”

              “There’s a pretty great video of it online,” Magnus added. “Dude isn’t scared of anything.”

              “Do you think he’s made any enemies?” Noora asked.

              “Tons!” Magnus laughed. It was obvious he didn’t understand where Noora was leading this discussion. “’You can’t take a stand without making someone mad,’ that was his motto.”

              “Do you know anyone in particular?” Noora asked.

               “No one that would want to kidnap him if that’s what you’re getting at,” Mahdi said.

              “What about Isak?” Chris asked.

              “No way,” Magnus said. “Sure, he can get angry, but he wouldn’t actually hurt anyone. Not intentionally.”

              “Didn’t he start that fight with your brother’s friends in high school?” Chris asked Sana.

              “Yeah, but there were no hard feelings. Isak’s a pretty good person,” Sana replied.

              “Usually,” Eva said, sitting down at the counter beside Magnus. This caused everyone to turn their head to her.

              “What do you mean?” Magnus asked.

              “In high school, he broke up Jonas and me. When I cheated on Jonas, he told me not to tell him and then told Iben. Then when I confronted him he told me it was because he liked me and-”

              “Wait, he liked you? But I thought…” Magnus was wide eyed, not understanding.

              “Oh for the love of- He liked Jonas!” Sana jumped in, cluing in the blond boy.

              “What?” This was news to Magnus. He never would have guessed. His mind began running to all the times that they all hung out as friends and how he never knew. He almost forgot that they were supposed to be talking about missing people.

              “Focus,” Mahdi said, putting a hand on Magnus’ shoulder. “We’ve all done things we regret but are they enough to want to commit a crime?”

              “What about Even?” Sana asked, wracking her brain.

              “Why,” Magnus got apprehensive. He didn’t know why he was so defensive about it. Maybe he just didn’t want Even to be muddled up in this any more than he was. Of course, it was impossible to separate him from the whole situation. There was also part of the thought that if it was about Even, Magnus could be guilty in all of this.

Magnus had been the first one to introduce Isak to the public after Even’s career took off two years ago. The plan originally had been to keep him out of the news; to let it all be about Even. It was around that time that Magnus had started his blog, Straight from the Cat’s Tongue. He had needed something to do with his life. It had all started when he attended a party that Eskild threw. He had been sitting alone awkwardly, feeling sorry for himself around Vilde’s ex-friends, when Noora sat down beside him. He had asked her about what she had been doing since high school. She had told him all about her new job as a freelance journalist. Something about the way she was talking about her work made something click in Magnus. Unlike her and Jonas, he wasn’t interested in the political statements of it. He couldn’t keep up with policies or laws, but he was interested in the human interest, from the scandals to the who’s who of the gossip. His blog had taken off when he gave them a story no one else couple have: who was the muse for Even Bech Næsheim’s stories? Overnight he had thousands of people flocking to his website, sharing the story with everyone. Everyone wanted to know everything about Isak and Even, or Evak, as they were calling them online. People even went to Isak’s university to try and meet him. Even had to post on social media asking people to stop. He hadn’t realized just how much the world loved a love story, especially the story of the love between his two friends. He had been joking when he said he would like to watch a show about them, but maybe he had been onto something.

              If Isak was missing because he was linked to Even, that was Magnus’ fault. Isak had made his Instagram private before Even became big and Even wasn’t on social media. Magnus had convinced them to share their life with the world. Even if it was just small snippets that Magnus had shared, this was all on him.  

              “Why don’t we all just talk to Even,” Eva suggested.

              “He’s commandeered my room,” Noora said, obviously slightly annoyed about it. “But I’m not sure if Eskild will let us past.”

              Magnus kept quiet for a minute, weighing his options. If he was there, then he could know for sure. He wouldn’t have to directly ask, and he wouldn’t seem suspicious if other people were wondering. After a moment he said, “I told Even I would go see him tomorrow. I was going to take him for coffee to get him out of the house.”

              “We don’t want to ambush him,” Mahdi reasoned.

              “No,” Sana replied, “but we’re running out of time, so I don’t think we have a choice.”

            They were still sitting in Mahdi’s shop two hours after they had decided to throw a get-together. Mahdi has put the closed sign on the shop, but Sana noticed that there hadn’t been any customers in all morning anyway. That was a blessing.

            The group had been trying to craft the perfect plan for talking to Even. No one really felt like party planning right now, but everyone wanted to have their voice heard on what this party should look like. Sana knew they all just wanted control of something, since the universe was making them all feel powerless.

            “Hey Sana! I think your phone is ringing?”

             Sana turned to Eva, whose hand was outstretched, holding Sana’s phone. It was Elias. Finally.

             Sana picked it up, determination and anger in her voice as she said, “Now you call me! What the hell, Elias?”

             “Hey, Sana, before you get mad, I really gotta tell you something. I think we just saw your friend.”

             “What friend?”

             “The ex-one. You know, Vilde.”

             “Wait,” Sana was trying to process. “I’m going to put you around speakerphone.” Sana set her phone down in the middle of the table so the whole group could hear. “Okay, what did you say?”

             “We saw Vilde,” Elias repeated. “But that’s not even the biggest thing we found. God, I don’t know how we’re going to tell Even but—”

             “Tell me what?” The group all turned to door to see none other than Even Bech Næsheim standing there with Eskild. Surprise. Just another way the universe was ruining their plans today.

i have literally seen better fan trailers jdaksdka. i don't mind the phrases (wish they were intercut with new footage; old clips don't get me hype lol), but minus the rule breaking one, these don't feel specific to the mailin we've seen? and i know they switched teams but "who do you want to be?" would be a much stronger new gen thesis if nora & fatou's (non existent) trailers had them too idk.

anyways let's talk about #REAL artistry

the phallic imagery cris ignores vs joana piquing her interest immediately and then literally getting her wet lmao. the way this is a clear reference to isak's trailer but it's also not a copy. it’s erotic without being over-sexualised, it’s fun, it’s exciting. the first kiss foreshadowing with the pool. the first time we hear hurricanes.

viri’s reverse trailer, like sana's, is such a simple concept yet it does so much. like it’s not just the idea that she’s putting on a false brave face, or that you can’t judge a book by its cover (everyone’s fighting a battle etc), it’s also that she’s stuck and not moving forwards, because that’s how poverty works.

the cashqueens not appearing at all and the focus being on the instas partying, tricking us into believing they’d be the main squad - much like viri’s, there’s the idea of hiding something, a truth yet to be revealed (also showing how fake the instas are). and the entire cast doing voiceovers! i think that works so well with nora’s mindset and just as a general anxieties-of-youth thing? reminds me of the jonas speeches in s1.

literally signaling all the plots and dynamics (and changes in dynamics) via simple bed shots, quick editing, and minimal acting. and the importance of a bed to the story! the music being both hopeful and ominous. the trailer ending with the camera going down to rest next to grace, meant to represent daniel, but also the way we’re going to follow her for 10 weeks too.

the og date fading to white before the new date pops up in yellow! amira’s voiceover apologizing to us for that because she needed time! starting with her staring at us before she leaves! the super quick flashes of new footage representing the ‘caught between two worlds’ concept and how confused & chaotic her mindset is rn!! (and the way she prays when that happens, which we’re seeing!)

everyone look away but i actually like lucas’ trailer. i think it’s fun to see the ‘first time i saw you’ moment and know that that’s what we’re seeing, and with the way the real time format works it’s like...idk, we know something the main doesn’t, we know how important they’re about to become to each other etc.

included spiritually but not physically are a) the og trailers bc i wanted to focus on the remakes, b) nora grace’s bc i couldn’t get a clear screenshot which is the point of that trailer jfkdsdsd, and c) maya’s trailer bc i experienced emotions that night i don’t think i ever will again. also i think italia s2 was a fine twist on isak’s too but cris did it better.

1. Jonas is a dick. Probably those will be proven wrong but don’t tell me.

Okay I just watched all of SKAM for Herman fucking Tømmeraas only for him the get 18 minutes and 46 seconds of screen time throughout 4 fucking seasons

No but seriously I really loved the show and it was amazing and I for one don't understand the hate the last season gets. Ofc it was sad that it ended that way and I hope they pick it up again one day but other than that I thought it was really good! Yousef and Sanna are adorable! For me it was a great way to show all kinds of things that teenagers experience everyday without it becoming too dark and serious (euphoria 😤) and that everyone can be a main character.

Eva - wasn't that likeable in her own season but afterwards especially in S2 &S4 I did really start to like her and even though from afar I think we got to see some pretty good character development there. Also Chriseva should have been endgame!!!!!!!!

Noora - was my fav of the girl group and I think deep down she's the kinda friend everybody wants to have and the sexual assault storyline is an extremely important story to tell although it wasn't the main focus of the show it was done much better than in many other shows.

Isak - I love how he started as just the best friend and then got his own season agian his story is a very important one to tell too, to many young people who are struggling with sexuality gender and coming to terms with who they really are. He's such a cuite I love him and Evak is too cute for this world

Sana - was an incredible character and actual representation of what many girls like her go through. I love that we get to see behind her tough girl façade bc I too thought she was really mean in S1 but this time we really get to know her, see her soft side, see her fuck up and then realize & learn something from it!

Vilde - I feel like Vilde in S1 was really childish in character like there's a line between cute and annoying and she was playing jump rope with it. Although it is true we never know what someone is going through and should be kind. Her struggle with self image is what so many young girls can relate too and it's sad too see it happen this often. But she does mature and start to love herself even if we're not there to see it!! As well as her relationship with Magnus, they're goals tbh!!!

Chris - In my opinion she was ignored a little too much and kinda thrust to the background and never given her proper storyline! She was an amazing character and to see her try to always be there for her friends and refuse to change herself bc of society is amazing! Deserved much better!

Jonas - was also one of my favs I love his friendship with Eva and how supportive he was of Isak. He was a truly amazing guy however I don't think he should have ended up with Eva! Him and Emma was smth we got to see so little of and they just took that away!!!!

I think I've talked about most characters here and it's 4 am I can't go on giving paragraphs to each but there were so many others that I loved: Evan, Elias, Magnus, William and P-Chris (although with the last two there were alwasys moments that make you go nahhh from time to time but overall love em, also wtf was that last scene with Chris??? I'm so fkn mad, like they deticated a good part of the episode for even that tiny development and just destroyed in half a second I'm so freakin' mad)

Plussss an honourable mention goes to Eskild & Linn who will forever be an iconic duo!!! I love these two so much they're like the best roomates you could possibly hope for!!!!

Anyway ending this now bc it's almost 5 go watch it lol and remember criticism is one thing hate another (don't do the latter!!!!)

So I Just Finished Skam...

First of all, I loved it. It was an incredible show and I'm so glad that there are so many remakes because I enjoyed it so much. One of my favorite things about the show was the fact that it feels extremely realistic, and I think a lot of that is due to the fact that a majority of the actors were actual teenagers (rather than actors who are obviously in their mid 20s and playing characters who are 16) and the fact that the characters behaved like actual teenagers (like using Facebook and Instagram, using "bad" language, dancing and singing along to music, etc. etc.). The other thing I adored about this show was the amount of importance that was placed on friendship. Platonic relationships in fiction are normally vastly underrated or underdeveloped in favor of romantic ones, so I appreciated that Skam showed so many friendships. So I decided to make a list of my favorite friendship moments from each season (two moments per season, with honorable mentions at the end before moving on).

Season 1:

1) Noora cheering up Eva by singing Justin Bieber to her:

I am not a fan of Justin Bieber at all (if you like him, all the more power to you, but I personally can't stand him), but Noora singing to Eva was such a great moment. She knew how sad Eva was, and decided to cheer her up by sharing something that made her (Noora) happy, and it was a really sweet moment between friends. It was also something that is realistic to do when someone you care about is down, and even though it was a small scene, it showed how strong a friendship Noora and Eva have.

2) All of the bonding moments between Sana, Vilde, Eva, Noora, and Chris:

I know this is a vague one, but just the sheer amount of time the girls spend together, whether they are doing something important or just hanging out was really awesome to see. Most of the time, tv shows don't take time to show us little moments like characters talking about boys or just sitting hanging out unless it has a more dramatc purpose. With Skam, we got to see those moments, which made the friendship between the girls that much more realistic.

Honorable Mentions for Season 1:

Eva grabbing the wrong Chris for Vilde, leading both Chris and Penetrator Chris (love that nearly everyone calls him that in the show by the way) to share a huge hug and go "name twins!" because that's totally something I'd do if I met someone who shared my name.

Eva and Ingrid finally talking about everything that happened, giving them both closure and the ability to move on, even if their friendship would never be the same (this was such a great scene because it showed Eva apologizing and telling Ingrid that she couldn't change what she did, but she would if she could, and it also allowed Ingrid to be hurt by what happened with Jonas, because let's face it, Ingrid was the injured party in that particular situation).

Season 2:

1) Noora telling Vilde all of the important things that the ingredients for tortilla do for you, and Vilde later doing the same for Noora:

I love how all of the girls take care of one another, but this scene in particular I loved a lot. Noora has noticed that Vilde hasn't been eating, and after hearing Vilde tell her all the reasons she doesn't like potatoes, Noora tells Vilde all the reasons she should. Noora also does so in a way that isn't shaming Vilde or being condescending to her, rather, Noora brings it up in a casual conversation. Later, Vilde notices Noora not eating, and prepares tortilla for her, quoting what Noora told her about potatoes and eating it with her. I loved this scene because it showed how much Noora and Vilde understood one another, as well as the importance of support.

2) The amount of support given to Noora by the girls after she discloses what happened with Nico:

This one is a total no-brainer. Noora had no idea what had happened that night, and had very little to go off of, and she spent the next few episodes terrified. When she tells the girls what she thinks might have happened, they all immediately stop what they're doing and rally around her. The no-dialogue scene in which they take Noora to the doctor and hold her and keep her safe was incredibly touching, and to be honest, nearly made me tear up.

Honorable Mentions for Season 2:

Sana and Chris playing a joke on the girls at the cabin during their break, because that whole episode was hilarious, and the individual ways each girl reacted was totally in character for each of them.

All of the girls telling Noora that they knew about her and William, because it was the most obvious thing in the world, and Noora being sheepish and surprised that she hadn't been hiding it as well as she thought.

Season 3:

1) Jonas, Magnus, and Mahdi telling Isak what to text Even:

This scene was so funny, and not the type I usually get to see when it comes to male friendships. I love that Isak tells them that he has no idea how to reply to Even, and Jonas tells him what he should say, with Magnus and Mahdi inserting their opinions and talking about how they text girls. It was enjoyable to watch because too many times fiction shows us that boys don't have the same relationship confusion that girls do, and it's often not true. I like that this scene allowed the boys to just be boys, because everybody deals with uncertainty, especially when it comes to liking someone.

2) Linn and Even playing video games together:

I know this scene is literally like two seconds and that we only see them ending from Isak's perspective, but hear me out. I'm pretty sure this is the first scene we see that shows Linn actively smiling and looking happy. Also, Even had just come off of a manic episode, was feeling depressed, and when we see him playing video games with Linn, he too looks actually happy, which is always great to see. Plus, the way Linn and Even are interacting with one another, it looks like they've known each other forever rather than two people who have just met, and even though it was a fraction of a scene, it was super great to watch.

Honorable Mentions for Season 3:

The entire development of Sana and Isak's friendship (I almost broke my "only two friendship moments" per season rule for this, but I decided to stick to my guns). Isak and Sana have a great friendship and I love how it came out of nowhere. Their friendship is literally started by being partnered together for school, which only happened because Sana sat by Isak to tell him that she had the weed he hid (a beautiful start to a beautiful friendship).

Isak coming out to Jonas by telling him that he liked someone and giving him the hint that it wasn't a girl, and Jonas reacting by thinking about the hint for a minute and then going "it's not me...is it?" because the expression Jonas had on his face while he thought about who it could be was funny because it looked like the fact that Isak had just come out to him wasn't even on his radar, because he was more concerned about guessing right, and the fact that he guessed himself was humorous to me.

Season 4:

1) Chris being a total ride-or-die friend to Sana after the stuff regarding the hate accounts for Sara and Vilde came out:

Everybody needs a friend like Chris. She is without a doubt one of the most loyal tv show characters I've seen and I wish Skam had run for more seasons so we could get a Chris season (and a Vilde season and an Even season, and a spin-off for Eskild and Linn, who both totally deserve one). Chris is the first person Sana told about the Sara account, and the first thing she did was tell Sana that the hate would blow over if Eva found out the truth (because Eva and everybody else thought Isak was responsible for it, and Eva was pissed AF at him). Chris also made sure that Sana knew that she didn't hate her for what happened, because everybody screwed up (seriously, we all need a friend like Chris).

2) The girls showing up to the bus meeting in their own tiny bus named "Los Losers" for Sana, effectively showing all of the Pepsi-Max girls (like Penetrator Chris, that will forever be their name) that if you mess with one of them, you mess with all of them. Sana was terrified that the girls would never forgive her, and when they all show up in the bus screaming her name, the joy on Sana's face is practically tangible. I love that they all pull Sana into the bus and give the Pepsi-Max girls the finger as they drive off, because really, what better way to show the true bonds of friendship than by collectively flipping off a ton of girls who messed with one of their own.

Honorable Mentions for Season 4:

Sana and Even's friendship, and the fact that she protected and respected his privacy when Isak asked her why she never said that she already knew Even, because too many times do I see characters give away information to other people that isn't theirs to give, and the fact that it didn't matter to Sana that Isak and Even were together, she was still going to make sure that Even had a right to the details of his personal life was extremely important.

The conversation between Sana and Jamilla about their schooling and Islam, because the texts we see between them prior to their falling out show that they were very close, and it was nice to see them talk and reconcile, because that's how life works sometimes. You fight and fall out with people, and after time passes, sometimes there is reconciliation.
