My wheel (Blithe) is still in a state of disrepair and I can't find anyone near enough to drive him into a doctor :(
There are a couple maladies that I just need another person more knowledgeable than myself to diagnose and most likely in person so I'm Big Sad.
I'm currently now looking for a 'new' but in better condition spinning wheel for active use.
If anyone in Southern Ontario, Canada has a wheel for sale or the contact info for a good Wheel Doctor in the area then I would be eternally grateful.
If you don't have any info, just sharing this post around would be a huge boon
Tumblr media
The guys who fixed Blithe with this prosthetic spoke didn't actually affix it properly and just kinda...wedged it in place without glue or a wooden nail and it shows now.
The spoke will slide out of place and the fill they did to the crack is itself cracking.
The wheel has a wobble to it 😭

The Many Illustrators of A Tale of Two Cities 2: Rowland Wheelwright
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That's right, we're jumping centuries and mediums!
...specifically, from Phiz's engravings for the original 1859 monthly installments to Wheelwright's paintings for this 1925 edition! (warning: in the following, there is some violent imagery, and one image in the third grouping has blood)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As I'd mentioned in the announcement post, these illustrators will be highlighted completely out of chronological order to make it more organic when I continue to find more and more artists' work to add to the queue - so I wanted to start off with a particularly dramatic leap in time (and style!) to give a sense of the sheer variety of art we're going to be looking at here!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This also happens to be one of the sets that I scanned myself - most of these beautiful illustrations haven't anywhere on the internet (by my own intensive research at least!) until now. It's my joy to finally get to share them!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Overall, I want to give my own opinions and takes on the work of each illustrator as little as possible so that everyone can experience it in their own way, but the true beauty in his attention to detail in color, characterization, costuming, composition, and shadow calls for some comment.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is the work of someone who loved and appreciated both the story itself and the act of illustrating it - I'm grateful to him for bringing these images into existence.
& the standard endnote for all posts in this series:
This post is intended to act as the start of a forum on the given illustrator, so if anyone has anything to add - requests to see certain drawings in higher definition (since Tumblr compresses images), corrections to factual errors, sources for better-quality versions of the illustrations, further reading, fun facts, any questions, or just general commentary - simply do so on this post, be it in a comment/tags or the replies!

Conservatives are now posting videos of other black men in New York (or in subways that may or may not be in New York) being violent claiming that they’re Jordan Neely. (See the community notes below the video.)
Apparently all black people are Jordan Neely now.

Backstory
|(Lewis was born into a family of engineers in the town of Vardaros. His father, Winthrop a renowned engineer himself, had always dreamed of his son following in his footsteps. From a young age, the boy was fascinated by his father's work and would spend hours watching him tinker with machines and inventions in his workshop. His mother, Dionysia was a bit absent in his life. As he grew older, Lewis's love for engineering only intensified. He often had so many papers and books he often studied to become an engineer, and his designs and inventions were always the most innovative and efficient. However, he also had a secret passion for barking. Whenever he had a break from his engineering studies, he would sneak away to a nearby park and practice his barking techniques. His older sister, Theodosia was an engineer like him. Despite his engineering skills, Lewis always felt like he didn't quite fit in with his peers. He was a shy and introverted person and often felt more comfortable with machines and inventions than with people. But then he saw Varian when he travelled to Corona for the first time, with someone who is Marcellus. Varian is very kind, supportive, and understanding, and had a way with words that made people instantly like him. Lewis was immediately drawn to him, and from that moment on. Varian became the subject of Lewis's crush. Motivated by his love for Varian, Lewis pushed himself even harder in his engineering studies as well as he discussed with Marcellus. He wanted to impress Varian with his skills and innovations. But he also wanted to have something in common with Varian, who was also a fan of the popular book series, Flynnigan Rider. So Lewis started reading the books and even became a member of the official Flynnigan Rider fan club. Lewis was shown to be scared of alchemy and often had a nervous smile.)|
{}Family/Friends{}
Father(S): Winthrop (Alive)
Information: His father is a renowned engineer himself, Lewis had always dreamed of his son following in his footsteps. From a young age, the boy was fascinated by his father's work and would spend hours watching him tinker with machines and inventions in his workshop. Winthrop is a stressed yet peaceful father to Lewis, as he often does help out his season.
Mother(S): Dionysia (Alive?)
Information: His mother was a bit absent in his life, since she left the town when he wasn't even 1 year old. He isn't able to patch out the information but little did he know that his mother might've hidden something from her past to make him question about her and him.
Sister(S): Theodosia (Alive)
Information: His older sister, Theodosia was an engineer like him. Knowing that did bit of information, he and his sister are often shown to only interact if it's about engineering and such.
Pet(S): Ember
Information: His fox friend is quite mischievous and gleeful, which kind of makes him nervous around him.
Friends: Varian, Marcellus, Eugene, Lance, Cassandra and Rapunzel
Information: Varian: He saw Varian when he travelled to Corona for the first time, with someone who is Marcellus.
Marcellus: The two are shown to have mix feelings about each other, on one hand. He was supportive and sympathetic towards Marcus from how he endured in the past while other times, he fears him cuz he is an alchemist.
Eugene: He often talks about the books that have his favourite idol who was Flynnigan Rider or Flynn Rider but little did he know that it's Eugene's alies and Lewis gets kinda shock before he smiles and becomes close friends with his hero and idol.
Lance: He doubts Lance at times, cuz Lewis is a Vardaros and he is quite timid when he wants to explain about the town. But soon, he shows to have slight intention on explaining his town.
Cassandra: He often views Casandra as a bit as being "tough-as-nails", a fitting description for someone who wishes to join the royal guard. She is snarky, sarcastic and has a somewhat dry sense of humor. She is also very intelligent, often subtly insulting Eugene in clever ways that go over his head. Despite this, she is extremely supportive and protective toward Rapunzel, her polar opposite—so much so, that she openly holds animosity for Eugene, believing him to be a selfish freeloader and undeserving of Rapunzel's love and friendship.
Rapunzel: He often views her as a heart of gold; she is kind, generous, caring, and trusting to most anyone she encounters. She loves trying new things and hanging out with her closest friends. Rapunzel is loyal to her friends and family and is willing to do anything for them. She is fiercely protective against those who try to endanger her loved ones. Despite growing up in a tower mostly alone for the majority of her life, Rapunzel is extremely sociable and extroverted. Her entrapment in the tower gave her adventurous drive and irrepressible spirit. Because of her imprisonment, she also hates restrictive rules, like those imposed by her father, and snobby royal etiquette. He sympathized with her when he heard she was locked in a tower by a wicked person like Gothel, and often supported her through all of this.

The vow of chastity lifted the burdens of early marriage, bad sex, and potentially lethal childbirth; the habit released women from the obligations of beauty; and the requisite knowledge of Latin and a wide range of religious texts required that nuns be well-educated.
