So I have not seen John yet (not in the US) but in anticipation and celebration of his return I wanted to list everything that the stupid fucking corporate greed of Big Production prevented him from covering over the past months.
Because we will NEVER E V E R blame the writers. It's all Business Daddy's fault.
Anyway here is my list of everything HBO stole from us: John Oliver Live Reaction Edition.
Toxic Gossip Train, because holy crap that still feels like a fever dream.
Donald Trump's mugshot, and the return of the We Got Him banner by proxy
The Oceangate incident, because holy crap it's a built in 'gate' debacle and was controlled by a Logitech controller.
The WGA Strike as a whole, because gawd dayumn that would have been some good damn journalisim
X. FUCKING X. Elongated Muskrat as a whole really.
I don't even wanna mention this but Kylie and Kendall debuting with Timothée Chalamet and Bad Bunny respectively because wow.
KING CHUCKY CHEESE'S CORONATION. LIKE WHAT THE HECK THE BRITISH MAN HASN'T COMMENTED YET.
The Grimace Shake, just for the lolz
Plenty more that i just can't think of rn cuz it's 3am i am surprised i am this coherent
And of course.
Of. Course.
The worst, most horrible thing corporate greed took from us when it comes to John Oliver reactions.
BARBIE.

is the full spectrum of worldview interpretations of the Barbie movie evidence that it was ineffectively written and thus, impossible to understand? or is it evidence that we as a population no longer have the ability to interpret a story as it was written? be that through incompetence, ignorance, or total lack of a shared culture

i will never not defend people who like taylor swift. especially towards men.
people who say that kanye made her famous and that swifties are a cult piss me off so much.
“kanye made her famous” he interrupted a 19 year old girl who was WINNING AN AWARD. everyone seems to forget that she was receiving a vma. if he “made her famous” then why was she already being highly praised?
everyone getting upset at swifties, particularly teenage girls, who dress up, dance, have fun at the concert and movie don’t even try to see their point of view. some people treat the movie like the real concert because they didn’t get a chance to go to the concert. this is their concert. a lot of grown men do they exact same thing for sports. except i haven’t seen any swifties breaking things because she didn’t play their favourite song.
why are men allowed to enjoy their sports teams and dress up and yell and even sometimes become violent towards others over results but people can’t publicly enjoy an artist that makes them feel safe and happy.
it’s totally okay for you to not be a fan of her music, not everything is to everyone’s taste. i’ll even admit to enjoying a few kanye songs myself.
the hatred for taylor swift and her fans feels so misogynistic and uncalled for. they aren’t harming you. they’re just having fun. let them do that.

Thank god for Auden, she still refuses to allow angst to get in the way of her fluffy Frey time:
Auden acted on impulse, stood on the tips of her toes to press her lips to Frey's. After a moment in which Frey stood in frozen shock, Auden landed back on her heels and laughed a little at the stunned look on Frey's face.
"Oh, okay, you figured it out, that's cool," Frey muttered, her voice high and tight with blatant shock, and Auden giggled at her. That same glow from before lit Frey's features, a soft golden sheen like candlelight, and her hand tightened around Auden's for a fraction of a moment. Something like relief washed over Frey's face, and she raised her trembling, flour-dusted free hand to trace her fingers over Auden's cheek, silencing her giggles with that touch. "This is cool, right?"
Auden smiled and reached up to press Frey's hand into her own cheek. "If you're asking if this is alright with me, then yes. Honestly, Frey, I'd think you've never courted anyone before."
Frey flattened her hand, pressed her palm against Auden's cheek, and swiped her thumb over her cheekbone, almost absentmindedly. "I mean, not really? I've had a few flings, but nothing really... I dunno. I just don't want to fuck this up."
"You're doing fine, Frey," Auden promised. "Though I won't protest if you decide to kiss me."
"Can I?"
The smile on Auden's face widened into a grin. "I thought that was a blatant invitation. Yes, Frey, you may kiss me."
