This is kinda a request but can you do a Luke Hughes reader where he cheats on his gf with the leader because he found out he loves the reader but while him and the reader are doing the naughty his gf comes in and catches them
Tumblr media
“wrong”
luke hughes x f!reader
warnings: cheating with reader, profanity, sex (sorta)
i tried to be more angsty than usual so i hope u guys like this
you knew from day one it was wrong. the way you looked at him, you knew it wasn’t right. the jittery feeling you felt in your stomach whenever he was around, it wasn’t the feeling that you were supposed to be feeling, it was supposed to be hers.
before you even realized it, your life became consumed. you were obsessed to say the least. always checking her instagram for new posts with him, or checking if the ‘<3’ highlight was still up on her page. the very first story on that highlight being dated all the way back to 25 weeks ago, the day you met him at the beginning of the semester at a party. you and luke grew close over first semester, so close you developed feelings for him, but he wasn’t yours. you stupidly set him up with a girl on your floor around october, and now they’re dating.
but the day you really messed up, was when you got so intoxicated that you somehow ended up in lukes bed, and that was last week. and that’s exactly where you are right now.
as luke’s lips melt into yours, he begins to unclip you bra from underneath your shirt. he pulls it out from under the tight fitting shirt hugging your skin perfectly, tossing it onto the floor behind him. your hands find their way up and under his shirt, tugging on part of it letting him know to remove it. he parts his lips from yours as he removes his top, while you do the same.
luke pauses unbuckling his belt to admire your body, making you blush and giggle nervously.
“you’re so pretty baby, you know that?”
“oh stop luke, you’re making me nervous,” you chuckle. luke smiles and leans back in to continue kissing you before breaking to finish taking his belt off. once all the clothing is removed, luke readjusts you both so that he’s above you while you’re laying flat on the bed. he leaves a trail of kisses down your neck, and leaves a few hickeys on your breasts. as he’s rolling the condom on, the door knob twists open and a shriek fills the small space.
“what the fuck luke!” she exclaims as she storms out of the door room. luke bolts out of his bed and puts as much clothing on as he can in a short amount of time, before running down the hallway chasing after his girlfriend. still in shock, you redress yourself in the now quiet and empty dorm room. the small polaroid of him and his girlfriend sitting on his desk reminds you that this is for the better, and that you guys should have never been in the position you were just in a few minutes ago.
as you slip quietly out of his dorm room, you see a distressed luke leaning against the wall. you attempt to slip past him unnoticed, but a hand grabs yours, spinning you around. you look up at luke and sigh. you know that you shouldn’t feel the way you do, but it’s like the whole world stops spinning when he looks at you.
“i’m sorry. i should’ve broken up with her ages ago,” he says lowly, clearly disappointed with himself.
“it’s not me you should be apologizing to luke,” you state.
“yes it is, i never even cared about her. i always wanted you, i just realized that way too late. you think it’s a coincidence that i see you everyday on my way to class while you come back from the gym? or that we just so happen to shop at the same bagel place? hell y/n, you make me so crazy that i just couldn’t deal with the chase any longer, so i kept mia around. which i regret, knowing now that it wasn’t just a one sided thing with you”
“luke, this isn’t right. i’m disgusted with myself, i knew what i was doing. we can’t be together, it’s wrong. at least not this soon, we have to think about mia,” you sigh.
“okay, then i’ll wait. i’ll wait for you, because i love you y/n. i know you think i’m crazy for saying that, but it’s true. seeing the way you care about everyone more than yourself, or how you’re not afraid to be the loudest one cheering in the stands, or even how you dance under the club lights, it makes me fall even more in love with you,” luke says, grabbing your free hand and intertwining it with his.
although your heart is swelling at his words, a sharp pain is stinging throughout your heart at the same time.
“luke, you don’t mean tha-“ you begin to say, but he cuts you off. “i do y/n, i do mean it. please just let me wait for you, i’ll do it anyways even if you tell me not to. i don’t care if we’re ‘wrong,’ it’s you that i want, and i know that.”
a tear slips down your cheek, knowing that you so desperately want to pull him in for a kiss and call him yours, but you know you can’t. “luke, we’re wrong. just give me time, and that doesn’t mean i’ll one hundred percent come back to you, but there’s a chance, okay?”
luke’s pursed lips turn into a sorrow grin, and he nods his head quickly. “okay, anything. anything you want, you have it.”
and luke really did mean those words, he meant every single one.
as you’re resting your head on his chest, feeling his breaths slow as he begins to fall into a calm rest, you say something that you’ve been dying to say for awhile now, “i love you too, luke.”
“what? i didn’t say i love you, i mean i do but-“
“i know. it’s from last year, the words i left unsaid. i’m saying them now, because i love you too,” you say softly, still feeling luke’s breathing pattern against your cheek. his lips brush against the top of your head, making you smile.
“well, in that case, i love you more.”

Luke had a hard time moving on from Maisie. And it didn't help anything when the reason he found out the reason why she told him she didn't want him anymore was because she thought she was good enough for him.
For a while he'd think about how she must have been feeling pretty low about herself that she began to think that and how he must have been a shitty boyfriend for not noticing it earlier. He was sad and lost. There were a few games left in the season and he was going to try and make the most of it.
After the particular stinging loss to smashville in the shootout. He found himself drivng to her place. He was upset and wanted comfort. He didn't to go to her, it just out of habit and instinct. He still wasn't really paying attention when he climbed the stairs to her apartment and knocked on her door.
"Coming!" Luke could hear her scrambling to the door. He started to grow anxious. Why was he even here.
"Hell-oh Luke its you." The smile left her face when she saw her ex boyfriend.
Once her episode had passed, she regretted what she did. But she felt like it was maybe too late at that point. Would he even take her back if she asked?
"Hi Maisie girl."
There was a awkward pause before Maisie officially invited him inside the apartment. It was like neither of them really knew how to talk to each other again. It was like that day Luke realized Maisie was the cute girl from the previous season and he got all nervous to speak to her.
Funny thing was they each had things they were dying to tell each other.
"Nico told me what you told him. You know, about why." He tested the waters. "I want to say I get how you feel. But I've never felt how you've felt before. And I don't want to invalidate your feelings, because you're allowed to feel them. I understand why you did it, and I'm mad at myself for not being able to help you, when you needed someone. And"
"Luke"
"No let me finish, Maisie. And you are enough. I love every inch of you, and if you'll let me, I'll make sure you know everyday. So can we go back to being us, I miss you and waking up next to you. And I'm a little lonely right now with no Jack."
"I think I jumped into us, too fast, and when everything hit me it felt like too much. I want too go back to us. But I'm scared if we rush this thing it'll happen again. Is it alright if we remain friends for a bit and then resvisit being us again later?"
"I'll take anything I can get"
Maisie smiled, launching herself to give him a hug. She was so relieved to have him agree to be just friends for a bit. Luke was happy again. They spent the rest of the night talking, catching up if you will. Luke ended up staying the night and they both woke up the next morning if weird positions on the couch, they were definetely going sore for the rest of the day.
They didn't care though, as long as they were friends again.

Ep. 2 - Wolves and stormy seas
Hello everyone,
welcome if you’re new and welcome back if you’re not! This is another episode of Danbi’s Room, your weekly dose of safe space. Grab a cup of something warm to drink and get yourself cosy.
First of all, I hope you’re all doing well! Have you spent a nice week?
When answering this question, always remember that resting is important, too and that we can’t always give our 100%. And also that sometimes we get lost, be it physically or mentally. To focus again and get back on track we need to stop, to pause. That’s actually a very good thing to do and it is much more common and frequent than you would tend to suppose. If you try to think carefully about your everyday life you will notice we’re constantly reevaluating and adjusting. Of course that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t make plans at all or that commitment doesn’t matter: it’s just a way to underline that the improvisation and the score are equally important when dancing on this music that we call life. And this process is just another window on our multiple beautiful facets and on our constant state of change. We’re always changing. Now, we can either be victims of the inexorable transformations and variations or we can own them, welcome them and love them. I’d choose the second option, wouldn’t you? Yeah, I know, it is difficult. It’s quite scary most of time, especially in the beginning of the acceptance of this ever-flowing river into our existence. And trust me, the very second you believe the biggest waterfall has just passed there’s already another tortuous chasm awaiting you. With this I don’t mean to scare you, I really don’t. I’m talking about it because we don’t have to do it all alone by ourselves! We need to flow together and rest on each other’s shoulders together. We need to enjoy this stormy powerful sea together. Right?
I have to admit that even these thoughts…you know I didn’t do it all by myself. And that’s okay and totally normal. We are a result of everything and everyone that has crossed our path. You see? It’s all of us again, working together, living together. Breathing the same air and looking at the same sky. We must always remember to see through the eyes of love, to not let our hearts lock themselves in cages. You see, oftentimes pur past haunts us, and unluckily we can’t do much about it. Again, not alone. I know, frequently we feel like we can’t trust what’s around us and we also feel we can’t trust our ability to fly away if the branch on which we’re sitting breakes. Nevertheless, we can learn. Slowly but surely.
This is why I’ll tell you a story.
Once there was a little girl. She felt lonely and misunderstood by everybody. One day she meets a beautiful wolf. They become close, the little girl feels so relieved and understood and happy. But that wolf soon shows who he really is: a wounded energy-sucker who uses his open lesions of insecurity to project his pain onto others. He manipulates. He had built a cage around himself and he tries to build one around everybody else. The little girl suffers a lot for years, but then she finally manages to break completely free, with the help of her loved ones. She’s changed, she’s better, but now she’s afraid of wolves. It’s indeed a shame to feel so wary of these wonderful, majestic animals who populate the sumptuous mountains of her homeland. But what can she do? She waits. She goes on. One day she meets another wolf. She keeps her distance, even though he seems completely different from from the first one she had met before. He seems loving, warm. Honest. True. She still doesn’t give him much thought. Until one day, after many sleepless nights, he appears before her eyes. She suddenly feels warm and loved, she feels everything is okay and will be okay. She feels true love, as deep as the ocean, as vast as the universe. She feels the well known loyalty of the wolves. She feels a cosy big hug protecting her. She’s happy.
What does this mean? That a rotten apple can’t have the power of making you dislike apples.
It means that the world is still beautiful, that life is worth it, that love exists, despite all the ugly things. After all, they’re part of the game, too. Everything must be balanced, and nothing good comes without effort. But I can’t stress this enough, share. Share joy and share sorrow. We’re a tribe, we’re a pack. We’re love.
I’ll leave you with this thought. Let me know your opinion!
Have a beautiful week, big hug!
With love, yours,
Danbi

(also feel free not to do this if you’re uncomfortable:) thank you very much!!
part 1
Camilo had mixed emotions, having no absolute part of the room to focus to as his eyes were looking everywhere at the now ruined dinner table.
Glancing at the window where you ran away to, he felt uneasy. Not because of your powers, but because of how he thought you would feel at the current situation. It was not everyday you find someone having gifts like your family, let alone showing it in the most messy way ever.
"Senora, what was that?" Alma could only whisper in a soft tone, face still in disbelief. "Was that.."
Your mother sighed and replied. "Yes, only she has a gift.." she paused before a sigh leaves her lips as she continues.
"glass manipulation."
Your father immediately shooed away the glass particles, finding it easier to do so since you already swooped it out in a corner before you ran away.
"I'm really sorry about her, Senora, it's a long story but I apologize for the mess she made."
Camilo's eyebrows furrowed. Finally being able to speak, he stood up.
"Sorry but with all due respect, Senor. It wasn't her fault. She was stressed and it led her to break down. By any means, do not blame it on her."
Felix grabbed Camilo by the shoulders, urging him to stop. "We're all fine right? Camilo, why don't you go look for Y/N and help them calm down okay?" After receiving a nod from the boy, he turned away to the direction of the open window to follow you. But all of a sudden, he was stopped by your father.
"You can't go to her, Camilo. She's dangerous and unstable."
It took all of Camilo's might to avoid snapping at your father. At this point, he was pissed.
"Y/N isn't dangerous, and they will never hurt me."
Looking for you didn't take that much effort. Your glass trails practically what made Camilo find you a lot easier. While he stood beside the track of glass beads, he noticed that they were glowing in a red color. Picking one up carefully, he inspected the glass.
"Dark red.... for anger?" He asked himself. He figured that emotions were also a factor to drive your power, similar to how different kinds of weather work with particular emotions in his mother's gift. He noticed that the glass bead suddenly glowed to a flashing blue.
"Blue for sadness?" Camilo's eyes grew worried. Tucking in the glass bead in his pocket, he ran faster to find you.
Halting his footsteps, he took notice of a rather large spherical object in front of him, made of glass. Inching closer, he saw that it was indeed your creation of a glass bubble, with a glow emitting the same color as the glass beads around him.
When he finally reached the large dome, he couldn't picture the image within because of the foggy tint. His heart broke when he heard muffled cries from you. Are you inside the glass dome?
Putting his palm against the glass bubble, he whispered.
"Y/N, can you hear me?" He mumbled against the clear and cold surface.
Hearing his soft voice, you responded. "Camilo, go away, I don't wanna hurt you."
"I know you won't, Y/N. Do you wanna talk?"
The color from the glass slowly faded, turning transparent. You finally saw each other, and the sight of you in tears brought pain in Camilo's heart. His eyes softened, reflecting sadness and worry. You at the other hand, reached out your palm to  line it with his through the thin glass.
"What if I hurt you?" You whispered, leaning your head against the glass.
"I'd be willing to get hurt if it means getting to you."
You can only sob, hugging yourself while turning away from him. Hiding your face in your knees, you tried to make the bubble disappear, not sparing Camilo a glance to see your vulnerability.
You thought that he would be away by now, but it took you by surprise when Camilo engulfed you into a small hug from behind.
Immediately, you pushed him away. "Why aren't you scared of me? Why aren't you in fear? Why are you-"
"Because I care for you, Y/N!" He said, hands slowly finding its way to yours and kissing your scratched knuckles. "I don't fear you, because I know you. I know your gift is driven by your emotions. I know you well enough that being afraid of you is the least you would want after tonight."
He sat down in a cross-legged position, and urged you to do the same. Sitting beside him, his hands slid back to yours, his thumb tracing circles on the back of your palm.
"Don't feel forced to explain right now, I know how messy you can get when you're overwhelmed." Camilo brought his other hand up to boop your nose while you scrunched in response, leaving a light laugh. He smiled in glee when he looked beside him and noticed the glass beads turning from blue to a yellow glow.
I made them happy... Camilo thought. The corner of his lips not having any plans to go back down.
"I kind of feel calm right now, and I trust you the most.." You trailed off, leaning your head against his shoulder when you started to catch him up on the story of your gift.
"Mi abuela got a miracle when she gave birth to mi mama. It was 2 years before the Encanto came along so, my mom is older than yours. But because of the conditions in the village made it dangerous for the family, the miracle gave her the gift of enhanced vision, being able to see past further the human eyes and more colors than we can identify and since then, mi mami was obliged to look over the family.. but-"
You tried to hold back a sob but you couldn't. Camilo on the other hand, kept his hands at your back, tracing shapes and figures that brought tranquility in the middle of your cluttered mind. Slowly, you continued.
"She hated the burden, she hated her gift. When she got married to my dad, he helped her hide and pretend like it didn't exist and then years later, her gift faded."
Camilo hummed, "It's not easy.. with that kind of gift." He mumbled, thinking about his sister with enhanced hearing which can sometimes be too overwhelming to handle. It wasn't easy.
"How about your brother?"
"Julio was like Mirabel, he was giftless. Supposedly, it was a wake-up call for my mom that their miracle was dying but she didn't care, not until I came along." You trailed off.
"It's awful, milo. Back when I was little I was told to hide my gift and never tell anyone, not even you." After hearing the pain in your voice, Camilo reassured you by embracing you even tighter.
Looking up at him from his shoulders, you took in the sight of the boy. His features were gleaming against the moonlight. I'm sorry I hid this from you. Unspoken words from you seemed to travel effortlessly, seeming like he understood every non-verbal gesture you sent.
Quickly looking down from your lap, you moved your hands rhythmically, trying to form a glass image. Camilo looked down with you, trying to observe. As much as he loved the sight of you fiddling with your hands, his eyes never leave the site of light scars and scratches all over your arms from the glass shards back at the dinner table. How he desperately wanted to kiss those scars away, heal them and see you in your best condition.
But he knew you. He knew how much you get overwhelmed. If you had a problem, you were the type to solve it one at a time. And in this moment, Camilo knew you would do the same.
As much as it hurts him to see you in pain, he, too, should deal with it one at a time.
Trailing back to your fiddling hands, Camilo's eyes converted from worry to admiration upon glancing at the beautiful figure your magic has made. It was a glassy chameleon, surrounded by glowing particles as if it was a real chameleon come to life. A smile escapes your lips as the chameleon drifts and moves close to Camilo. You pulled away from him and sat back, letting him grab the glass chameleon for himself. Eyes filled with glee, his eyes fixated on how it moved. How its eyes move in different directions, its tail wrapping into itself.
"I never told my mom I still had my gift. If I was given a blessing as beautiful as this, who am I to waste it away, right?" You thought out loud, admiring the sight in front of you.
Camilo nodded as he cradled the glass chameleon in his hands. "This is beautiful, Y/N. Of all the years I've known you, you always seemed mysterious on the inside, like you had a dark secret or something."
"Yeah" You responded. Fiddling your hands once more, you attempted to create another 3d image made from glowing glass until-
"Y/N! Where are you?" In a split second, the familiarity of the voice calling your name brought shivers to your spine as both of you stood up. Immediately, Camilo brought you closer to him, careful as to not touch your injuries. As shuffling of the bushes gets louder, you raised your hands up, creating another dome-shaped bubble but this time, it was larger to fit you and Camilo together.
"Wanna see what else I can do?" You asked with a sly smile. Camilo had a confused look, but he nodded nevertheless.
Instantly, when your mother came into both of your view, she looked back and forth as if she was still looking for you. Camilo thought for a second. If she couldn't see you when both of you are literally just in front of her, then,
"Did you just make the glass bubble invisible?!"
With a proud smile, you nodded. Looking back at your mother who now cannot see you, she stomped her foot as she turned back probably looking for you in another place.
Camilo had his mouth wide open, still being new to this whole thing. From how happy he is, he forgets everything and engulfs you to a big bear hug. Unfortunately, he accidentally grazes upon your scars, making you jerk and flinch away as you hiss in pain.
He immediately backed off, muttering apologies. "Oh shoot- I forgot- I'm sorry"
"It's okay, Camilo."
You glance at him shuffling through the pockets of his pants and he pulls something out. It was a warm arepa wrapped in banana leaves. He hastily places it in the palms of your hands, urging you to eat it. "It's still warm, I brought it before I went to find you."
Thanking him, you took a bite of the arepa while he holds your hand and both of you look at your scratches and scars fade away. You pulled Camilo into another embrace as he wraps his hands around your waist and brings another to your hair, stroking it.
After a long period of warm silence, Camilo gently lifts your chin up to face him. "While we can't stay here for long, why don't you stay at my place for a while? Until your mom calms down."
"But your family-"
"-loves you. My family loves you Y/N. You are a joy to them and whatever happened earlier won't change a thing." He reassured you. Putting his hand on your cheek, he used his thumb to stroke and wipe away a stray tear leaving your eye.
"I promise, I'll help you control your gift. I'll always be by your side. You will never hurt me, and I will always protect you." With admiration in his eyes, he gently leans down to plant a kiss on your nose, leaving your heart fluttering and asking for more.
But before you were able to speak, the once invisible glass bubble around you went from transparent to opaque. You and Camilo glanced sideways to see that the color of the surface slowly turned bright pink.
For Camilo who knows what color depicts which emotions, he is sure having a party in his head right now. Mentally he thanked Isabela for teaching him the language of color and flowers and Mirabel for teaching him the language of colors through her paint and fabric.
"Pink glass.. I think I know what it means" Camilo smirked, squishing your cheeks playfully.
"Shut up."
"Come on, I wanna hear it from you! Pink glass means......?" Oh he was full-on teasing you, just like what you both used to do a lot as kids. Heck, even until now.
You pursed your lips, trying to hide the grin and fluster in your face. With a low tone, you grumbled and dropped your shoulders.
".....love"
Camilo couldn't hide the grin in his face. He knew this wasn't the end, and unfortunately you do too.
"And rosy pink glass specifically means.....?"
"... romantic love."
"I KNEW IT!" Camilo yelled. While you sulked in the side cursing your gift for telling on you, Camilo was all over the place, jumping up an down and fist-pumping the air, a thing he does when hes happy, not just happy, but extremely happy.
You were still pouting, playfully rolling your eyes at the childish boy inside the glass dome with you. You tried fiddling with your fingers to alter the glass, but you yelped in surprise when you were suddenly lifted from the ground, hands on your waist gripping hard while you were being spun around.
"Dios mio, Camilo! I'm getting dizzy!" You screamed, digging your face in his hair while closing your eyes. After you had enough he let you down, both of you in a laughing mess.
"Still can't believe my own gift would rat me out." You sighed, fixing your hair and removing the glass dome, exposing both of you to the outside world.
Camilo only laughed "But it's adorable!" You only rolled your eyes, taking a seat back on the grass beside him as he sat beside you and opened his arms for an embrace.
Sooner or later, the rest of the night unfolded with confessions, new relationships and sharing of feelings. You couldn't be even more happier. Even if it happened in such a rush, all that mattered was that the boy you had eyes on for years, the boy that never failed to make your heart flutter, the boy that always made you smile,
that boy in a yellow ruana,
that boy was finally yours.
And you were his.
"Are you sure this is safe? I thought glass wings were like, supposed to be heavy" Camilo trailed, unsure about his life decisions as he looks behind his now-glassy wings that you made.
"Luisa can lift your entire house and your biggest concern is if these big ass wings can carry your small ass body?" You grabbed his hand as you inspected your own set of glass wings. He only stuck out his tongue in response. Like a chameleon, I swear this boy is adorable. You thought.
You glanced back at him and laughed at his terrified state. "Hey, we had a game and you clearly lost."
"I didn't actually believe that you were the one that trolled Bruno with the boogeyman vision? How was I supposed to know you can make glass duplicates of his visions?!" Camilo yelled, his competitive side refusing to acknowledge that he lost the 3 truths 1 lie game that resulted to the  'glass wings' compromise.
Clicking your tongue, you cupped his cheeks and gave him a big peck in the lips. "Well you clearly didn't know me well enough. And never speak about this to him or the next vision you'll get of me from him is a grave."
"Yeah I clearly don't know you well enough" Camilo mocked your tone. "But now I have the rest of my life to find out now that you're mine, right mi vida?"
"Oh, Shut up Camilo"
"It's actually 'I love you Camilo' but it's okay we can practice again lat-AAA!!" His words got cut off by him screaming as his newly put glass wings (controlled by you) practically dragged him off the ground while you scoff and giggle at your now partner whom you love dearly.
"You're an idiot Camilo" You said out loud, using your magic to fly catch up to him. Despite the distance, you can still hear each other clearly.
"Still the wrong words, mi amor!"

Two arms had circled around his shoulders before the hedgehog had even registered their owner approaching from behind. Which really only proved how much he had been lost in his own head for the last few hours, at least. It wasn't uncommon for him to watch the sunset after putting their daughter down for bed, but it had been when the sky had long since turned dark and the second moon had risen that Mina just knew something was wrong.
"Hey…what's wrong?" Her voice was soft, but well understood even if it was met with silence at first. The one reassurance was a scarred hand coming up to cover one of her own, a sign the hero was still there, but she knew from his face that something was buzzing around his head.
     She always knew.
And it was why the hedgehog didn't bother brushing her worry aside, but he still hesitated for a moment, frowning. "'S…hard t' explain…"
A small bump was given to his head, the mongoose resting her chin on his shoulder, ever carefully avoiding the blue quills as she offered a smile. "Try me, you know I'm good at solving puzzles."
"I think you're better at forcing them," he replied, a note of amusement breaking through the melancholy. It seemed to lighten the mood, emerald eyes turning back to stare out towards the distance as his head leaned on hers. "It's just…sometimes I wonder if I'm always going t' be stuck as the hero, an’ if I'm always going t' be associated with Robotnik an' everything that he did…"
This time she frowned, brow furrowed. "Where is this coming from?"
Again, he paused before shrugging negligibly. "Just…some prat, 's all."
"Then it sounds like you already know that they're wrong, whatever they said," she said pointedly, her arms tightening into a hug before she scoffed. Not at him, but the situation. "How many times do I have to tell you that you are so much more than that. Just because some people can't see past the end of their own noses doesn't mean that you can't be happy, Sonic."
A kiss was given to the hero's shoulder before the singer buried her nose in the crook of his neck, and yet he could still understand every word. Hear the firmness in her tone. "Stop doubting yourself, and stop thinking about what happened. You’ve paid your dues. You can't change it anyway, so just enjoy the now for what it is. With me and our daughter."
As she suspected, it was those last words that caused the hedgehog’s expression to change into something thoughtful before something utterly tender. He knew she was right. As she often was. Just as she didn’t doubt his words as he looked into those jade hues as best as he could. "I do, everyday."
"Good." The word came with one more kiss to his cheek before she finally came to stand at his side, intertwining her hand with his as they stared into the forest from their porch. A moment of peace before she sneered. "Because the next person who makes you feel like shit is going to see what it's like against an angry housewife."
And, to that, he had to laugh.

I think i love you but what am I so afraid of.
Steve x Tony stark fanfic.
My first fanfic.
As they walked the path that led to his doorstep, a sudden realisation hit him, so hard he turned to Nat and blurted...
"I think I'm in love with him"
Natasha who was set to knock on the door, froze.
"With who?"
A blush crept up his cheeks and he ducked his head
"You know who"
She scoffed "I wouldn't be asking if I knew"
He took a deep breath "Tony" he exhaled.
"Someone's finally using their words"
"Please wait" he said "come sit with me"
She rolled her eyes but obliged anyway.
"I've never felt anything like this before"
"Maybe it's just hunger"
He glared at her and she snickered.
"I think I'm in love with- I can't believe I'm saying this, I'm in love with Tony Stark"
Natasha clapped him on the shoulder
"Thank goodness you've come to terms with it, now go in there and tell him"
"It's not that easy"
"You really don't know?"
He furrowed his brows in question.
"Jesus Christ! The two of you are just idiots, he likes you, he flirts with you, what other confirmation do you need?"
" He hates me"
"Where's this coming from?"
"Last month at his birthday party, I was watching him and suddenly mr Stark comes, drags me to the balcony, and threatens me to stay away from his son" Steve paused to wipe tears from his eyes.
Nat hugged him "I'm sorry" she said quietly.
"He said, my mother and I were poor and I was a- he called me bad names, homophobic names at that, he said his son wasn't into men and that if I came any closer to his son, I'd lose everything including my scholarship"
Natasha couldn't hide her disgust.
"He's an asshole, Tony tells me, one time he hit him because he wrote the wrong formula in his assignment, Tony didn't come to school that whole week, he bunked at mine... It's probably wrong to say this and Tony might be mourning him but thank God he's dead"
Steve sighed "what good is it?"
"Tony is free, he still has his momma and he's got us and you especially and you don't get to worry about your scholarship so stand up, get in there, help your mourning crush, tell him your feelings and " she shrugged "I dunno - kiss? Whatever"
She walked to his door and knocked thrice before Steve had the opportunity to protest.
The door swung open to reveal a very tired looking Tony (that's something you don't see everyday) this Tony had eye bags and a tired looks, this Tony was sad and Steve wished he could take it all away. Also this Tony was fixing Steve with a cold stare.
"What is he doing here?"
"Relax, he brought all your assignments for you, pep couldn't make it, Rhodey's grandma is sick, he seemed like the only option available"
With his eyes still on Steve he said "but I told you what he did"
"He's here to apologise, now are you gonna let us in or what?"
He sighed and opened the door wider for them to enter.
He walked away immediately Steve entered.
Steve wasn't gonna cry, he was a big boy, though he would have burst into tears if Nat glanced at him.
When Steve got into the sitting room, Nat was nowhere to be found, it was just him and Tony and the awkward silence.
"Here" he pushed the books in Tony's direction.
Tony pointed to the table.
"Yeah sorry"
Tony didn't like being handed things.
"I'm sorry" Steve tried again after a moment of silence.
"For everything, you wouldn't believe me but he threatened me and my ma, he was going to hurt me, and I didn't want to-"
"- he's dead" Tony replied coldly
"I didn't mean to do it"
Tony scoffed.
"Please let's go back to how we were, let's be best friends again"
"That what you want?"
"Uh- I don't- I don't know"
"Rhodey was right, you're dense"
"I think I'm in love with you but I don't want this to affect our friendshio, it's ok if you don't want to be anything, I'll just go- mmph"
He was silenced by Tony's mouth on his, he couldn't believe this was happening, he was indeed a good kisser.
Steve's lips parted in a gasp and Tony licked further into his mouth and he closed his eyes and savoured the moment.
They didn't separate until someone loudly cleared their throat.
"Guys, get a fucking room" Nat said
They rested their foreheads on each others and smiled.
Nat made a gaggin sound and went to the kitchen.
"What were you saying?"
"Let's go on a date"

Parent-Teacher Conference (Darry x Reader)
Darrel Curtis waved one last time to Pony’s teacher and closed the door behind him. He walked a little farther before leaning on the lockers. Sighing and running a hand through his slicked back hair, he allowed himself to relax. Parent-teacher conferences weren’t the worst- mostly because Pony was such a good student- but he got some weird looks from the Soc parents. They didn’t know that he wasn’t Pony’s father- they just assumed that he had him when he was younger.
Darry wished everyday that his parents were still alive. The weight of everything crashes over him every time he allows himself a moment of rest. So he keeps moving. Never let yourself stop to let everything catch up to you.
Because Pony was such a good kid, these conferences didn’t last long. He only had one more to go and then he could go back home.
Praying that the gang hadn’t burnt down the house yet, Darry started down the hall.
He saw some other parents and some kids, but for the most part, the halls were empty.
But then, he turned the corner and a body rammed against his.
“I'm so sorry!” A voice exclaimed, “Are you okay?”
“Yeah.” Darry said, “You?” He looked at the person he ran into and his eyes went wide. The girl was beautiful. She was wearing a leather jacket and jeans with a red bandana tied around her head to keep her hair up. Her eyes were sparkling and laughing and her smile was contagious.
“I’m good.” The girl said, her voice capturing and musical to Darry’s ears, “Gotta go!”
The girl ran away, turning to wave back at him. Darry waved back, a wistful look on his face.
Just then another figure turned the corner, barreling the same way that the girl went. A middle-aged custodian ran after the girl, yelling out, “Y/n L/n! Get back here!”
Darry could hear the girl laugh from down the hall.
Y/n L/n. Darry thought to himself. What an amazing name.
***
The second time Darry ran into Y/n wasn’t until a couple days later.
Darry didn’t know how he didn’t notice her around town more often, but he was glad that he recognized her now.
Oddly enough, they met at the police station. Y/n was waiting by the door, whistling innocently.
“Hey you!” She exclaimed as he got closer.
“Hey,” Darry said, the weight of Dally being in jail again lifting off his shoulders, “Y/n, right?”
“How’d you know?” Y/n asked suspiciously.
“I heard the custodian yell it when he was running after you.” Darry said.
“Ah.” Y/n laughed, “I certainly gave ol’ Landon a run for his money.”
“What did you do that was so bad it got his attention?” Darry asked, Dally long forgotten.
Y/n shrugged but grinned, “I graffitied the boys restroom.”
“Nice.” Darry then paused. When was the last time he had applauded vandalism? “So how come you’re not the one in the cooler?”
“I’m too quick to get caught. But one of my buddies is in there. I’m waiting for him as I can’t go in, otherwise they would arrest me as well. What about you?”
“Same as you. One of my friends.”
“Cool.”
The door of the police station opened and a young man stepped out. He looked around, smirking, until he saw Y/n.
“Y/n/n!” He cried, running towards her, “Thanks for bailin’ me out, sis.”
“No problem.” Y/n pulled the man into a side hug, slapping his back.
“I better get going.” Darry jerked a thumb towards the door. He started towards it, but paused when Y/n called out.
“Hey!” She yelled, “What’s your name?”
“Darrel. But you can call me Darry.”
“Nice to meetcha, Darry.” He loved the way his name fell from her lips.
***
The third time the two ran into each other was three days afterwards.
Darry was driving home from work when he saw Y/n sitting on a bench in the park, head in her hands. He stopped the car and walked over to her.
“Hey Y/n.” He said, hands in his pockets.
Y/n bolted up, switchblade out. Darry jumped back. Y/n relaxed when she saw it was Darry.
“Sorry Darry.” She said, putting the blade away, “I’m just really jumpy.”
“No kidding.” Darry laughed nervously, “What’s wrong? You’re hurt.” His hand lifted up to the black eye and cut lip that Y/n sported. He stopped himself before he touched her.
“Some Socs jumped me and my brother. The rest of our gang didn’t get there until my brother was beaten up pretty badly. He’s in the hospital right now. I don’t know if he’s gonna make it.”
“Why aren’t you there with him?” Darry asked, sitting on the bench.
“I couldn’t take any bad news. My gang’ll tell me if anything happens.” Y/n sat down as well.
“I’m sorry.” Darry whispered, “I lost my parents a few years back. I know how it feels- the uncertainty”
“Oh.” Y/n looked at him and then, outta nowhere, she hugged him.
Darry returned the hug, squeezing Y/n tightly.
“Do you at least have some family left?” Y/n asked quietly.
“Brothers.” Darry pulled away, “Blood and not. We look out for each other.”
“That’s nice.” Y/n leaned her head on Darry’s shoulder and they sat for a while, watching the sky darken and the lights of the stars slowly appear.
After a while, they heard shouts and calls. Darry saw three people come around the corner. Two, he recognized, but one he didn’t. Dally and Steve were the ones flanking the third person.
“Vicky?” Y/n called, “What’s wrong?”
“You know her?” Darry said, standing up. Darry nodded to Steve and Dally, who started towards him.
Y/n nodded, rushing towards Vicky. They talked in hushed voices, just out of hearing from the three boys.
“Who’s the broad?” Dally asked.
“Y/n L/n.” Darry replied, “And she’s not a broad. She’s actually really nice- although a little reckless. You would like her, Dal.”
Dally grunted.
“Anyway,” Darry continued, “Why are you guys here?”
Steve crossed his arms, “You didn’t come home and Pony started to worry. We came out to look for you. And then we ran into this chick.” He nodded towards Vicky, “She seemed a little… tougher, so we followed her here.”
Darry scoffed, “Like that wasn’t creepy or anything.”
Darry heard a scream that brought his attention towards Y/n and Vicky. Y/n started running away, towards the hospital. Darry started to jog after her, “You two go back to the gang. I’ll be home soon. Tell them not to worry!”
Dally and Steve called after him, but Darry was soon running to catch up to Y/n.
As he passed Vicky, Vicky started to run after him, “Where the hell do you think you’re going?” She barked.
“I’m making sure my friend’s okay.” Darry said, focusing on his feet pounding against the grass.
Vicky quickly caught up to him, “Everything’s fine! Her brother’s gonna be okay! She’s just excited to see him!”
“Oh.” Darry slowed down.
“This doesn’t concern you!” Vicky didn’t stop, running after Y/n, “Go back to your own gang!”
***
It was about a month later when Darry saw Y/n for the fourth time. She showed up at his door, smiling awkwardly.
“Hey.” Darry closed the door behind him and gestured for her to sit down on the porch.
“Hey, I just wanted to thank you for that night.” Y/n said, “I’m sorry that I haven’t seen you in such a long time. I was busy with my brother and the rest of my gang.”
“It’s alright. I assumed.” Darry sat down next to her, “What brings you here?”
“I wanted to know if you would like to do something.” Y/n said, looking up at him, “Just the two of us.”
“Like, a date?” Darry asked, happiness spreading in him.
“If that’s what you want, then yeah.”
“I would. I would like that a lot.” Darry smiled.
“Good.” Y/n said, matching his smile, “I’ll call you?” She handed him a slip of paper with some numbers scrawled on it.
“Yeah.” Darry said.
Y/n stood up and walked down the stairs, “Alright then.” She said, “I’ll see you later, Darrel Curtis. For our date.”
“See you later Y/n L/n. For our date.”

When Dean finally rescued Cas from the empty, he expected a happy reunion. He envisioned a strong hug like the first time he had escaped. He expected a long-awaited kiss and repeated confessions that weren’t said with sorrow or heartache. He expected to find the same Cas that was taken, but that would have been too easy.
Cas was left awake, alone, and in complete darkness for months on end.
So when Dean went into the empty, ready to wake up the love of his life, he found Cas curled in on himself—staring blankly out into the void of nothingness. He whispered something so softly and quickly that Dean couldn’t pick up on the actual words, but it sounded familiar. Almost like he was humming a song.
Dean tried to get him to stand up on his own, but he quickly realized that Cas wasn’t even looking at him. His gaze was distant, seeing something Dean can’t even imagine. He then noticed the white film over his eyes dimmed the once bright blue.
His fingertips gently traced over the skin he had only dreamt of touching for months before he took a deep, shaky breath to steady himself. With that slight pause, Dean used whatever desperate strength he had and dragged Cas back to the portal.
Back home.
As they got closer, the light of the portal seemed to startle Cas, and he started to shove Dean away. Dean had to put Cas down so he could take his green jacket off and place it over Cas’s head to calm him before he slowly continued to walk through the portal and into the bunker’s library where Jack, Rowena, Eileen, and Sam were waiting for them.
When they walked through, Dean quickly shushed them as he fell to his knees with Cas still in his arms, hidden under the jacket, and covering his ears at the sudden loud voices surrounding them.
Dean looked around at his family, all sharing the same worried glances knowing they were on the same page. Cas’s welcome home party would be pushed back until further notice.
Cas didn’t cry. His expression didn’t change much at all. All Cas did was sit or lay on Dean’s bed with the lights off. All but the desk light. It was an old lightbulb, so the light wasn’t a bright white like the rest of the place. Instead, it illuminated a soft golden glow against the wall.
Cas squinted at it at first, blinking so inhumanly at it, until all Cas did was stare at it. Whenever Dean made any move to turn it off or even just get near the lamp, Cas made a little whine at the back of his throat.
Little noises were the most Dean can get out of Cas. At least it brought him a little relief. It meant Cas could see him at that moment.
Cas still did that rapid talking or singing whenever it was a little bit too quiet. It made Dean wonder if Cas knew he was out of the Empty. Especially during those times when he would stare right past him, unblinking with cold eyes.
It was only the end of the second week when Dean broke down.
[continue under the cut or on AO3]
He didn’t mean to. He was trying so damn hard to keep it together, especially in front of Cas, but one night he just lost it. He can blame the lack of booze in his system, or as he wants, he can blame Sam, who came up to him about a stupid case. It pissed him off more than it should have. The fact that Sam even believed for a second that he would leave the bunker while Cas was like-well the way he was, just gave him enough of an excuse to raise his voice at someone.
Eileen had to step in and tell him to cool off.
Dean stormed off without a glance back and went to his room. He changed into his pajamas and climbed into bed beside Cas. He laid on his stomach as he wrapped one arm over the top of Cas’s waist, scooting close enough so that he could rest his head on Cas’s shoulder. He then opened his mouth to wish him goodnight just like every night, but something in Dean just broke.
He felt the pressure rise up his throat as he tried to hide his face into the familiar body beside him, but the sob still came.
"I'm sorry. I'm so sorry it took me so long to go get you. Fuck, Cas, please.” Dean took a shaky breath, sniffling as he reached to hold Cas’s hand closer to him. “We missed- I...I missed you. I missed you so much, Cas.” Dean brought Cas’s hand up to his lips and kissed the knuckles before letting the hand rest by his head. His eyes closed as he sighs, “I love you. So come back to me, okay?"
The only response Dean got was a squeeze of the hand, which was enough hope for the future, and more than Dean could have ever asked for at that moment.
As the days went on, Cas didn’t change. Literally and figuratively. He was still an angel, so there was no need for him to shower or brush his teeth, but Dean swore that Cas’s facial hair was growing, so he liked shaving him at least once a week. Cas seemed to like it by the humming noise he made.
They did learn a couple of things as the days went on.
One, peace and quiet are not what they strive for.
It only brought Cas anxiety, and his humming or singing became much louder and more desperate. They fixed that problem with a Bluetooth speaker constantly playing music in the background, a playlist Jack made mixed in with a playlist Jack helped Dean make. It made the humming stop, and Cas started to roll over in bed. He even sat back against the headboard with his eyes closed a few times.
A month after Cas got back, Dean's phone died in the middle of the night, and the silence must have gotten to him. He covered his ears while he started muttering to himself again. Dean woke up and pulled Cas to his chest while softly sing to him in his still half-asleep phase. He didn’t know why that was his first instinct, but he went along with it cause it started to calm Cas down. Then, Cas held him back for the first time—tucking his head right under Dean's jaw and relaxing.
Dean tried not to stiffen at the touch; if he were honest with himself, he would admit he was trying not to cry because he was busy singing. Busy, not wanting to disrupt this moment.
That night Dean sang all night long until Jack checked on them in the early hours and connected his phone.
Two, always have a light source on.
The lamp was the first one they had. Cas constantly wanted it on, but it bothered Dean all the time when he wanted to sleep. So they bought a cool starlight projector, Sam’s idea, that kept the light on the cement ceiling and not on Dean’s face. Cas seemed to enjoy it as he laid on his back, watching it all night, letting Dean curl up on his side as he slept through the night.
Three, never leave Cas alone.
Nobody wanted to leave Cas alone for more than a minute if they could help it. So they made plans to keep him company at all hours of the day. Of course, they weren’t crowding him. They all came in one by one, except for Dean, who would say, “This is my room. I get to come and go as I damn well please.”
Sam liked to sit by Cas's side and talk nerd like they usually would while cleaning his guns or doing research to help another hunter. He would even pause during the one-way conversation to give Cas some time to answer or try to imagine what Cas would say in that situation. Sam was always calm, wanting to keep it as normal as possible while Cas just stared at him, sometimes his eyebrows knitted together, and Dean had to excuse himself as he felt his chest tighten up.
Eileen sat by his side and watched shows she liked while she talked to Cas out loud and signed so he could hear her voice. Even then, she didn’t talk much. Instead, she let the laptop do the talking as she pets Cas’s hair while sitting on the chair by the bed.
Jack came in the most next to Dean. He liked reading to him or talking about how his skills as the new God have improved thanks to Amara.
"Dad, I hope you'll be proud of me." Jack once whispered to Cas, who was having a bad day, checking out more than usual as he stared off into the distance. Eyes wide and almost screaming.
It was almost the end of the second month when another big mile-stone happened.
Jack was lying in bed with Cas while Dean was at his desk, cleaning his guns obsessively again. Jack was reading him a book he bought during his recent trip to the bookstore with Eileen, it was a Star Wars story.
Jack was getting into the book as he read slower but louder during a big fight scene. He got so excited that he even jumped up and looked back at Cas, "Did you hear that, Dad? He won!"
Cas smiled back at him- a genuine smile- and Dean almost dropped the piece of metal in his hand while Jack froze, his shoulders tightening up while he scrunched up his lips as if trying to hold back his cry.
Instead, he quietly composed himself as he asked in a shaky voice, "You want me to read the rest?"
Cas only blinked at him, keeping the slight smile, and Jack took it as a yes. Jack sat beside him again with a big smile plastered on his face, wiping his eyes every other word, as he rested his head on Cas's shoulder to continue reading. Dean didn’t miss when Cas tilted his head down to rest his cheek on Jack’s hair.
He had to excuse himself again.
After that day, Cas slowly started to open up a little more.
Once Dean woke up with Cas out of bed. Dean was already in full panic mode, his shoes on the wrong feet and jacket inside out as he called out for Sam.
Then just as quick as the panic came, relief flooded him when he found Cas in the kitchen trying to make coffee. He turned towards Dean and gave him the smallest of smiles, but it filled Dean with such solace that he just dragged himself to Cas’s space. Dean held his arms open to press Cas into him, and without a second thought, Cas fell right into him as if it was an everyday normal occurrence.
That was the start of Cas now being up and around the bunker. It was like when a baby starts crawling, everyone keeping tabs on the baby’s first steps, except this baby was an eon old celestial being.
The library, Dean’s room, the Dean-cave, and the kitchen were Cas’s favorite places just to sit. He always had Dean’s headphones on, softly playing music, just in case it went quiet, and it took a while for him to be able to walk around without those.
It was the sixth month when Cas wished Dean a goodnight first and then added, “I love you, Dean.”
Dean fought the lump in his throat, but Cas instantly pulled him in, his arms wrapped securely around him. He had so much he wanted to say to Cas just to hear his voice again, anything to listen to his voice again, but instead, he kisses Cas’s chest before saying, “I love you, too.”
Days came and went. Sometimes it seemed like Cas was getting better as he talked a little more, but then those days would come when he would just stare off into the stars on their ceiling. Not moving an inch or bothering to fake breath like he liked. Those days the music was a little louder, and Cas held on to Dean a little tighter.
“I don’t want to go back. Please,” Cas pleaded as he stared wide-eyed at the darkness in the corner of their room. As if he was having a nightmare with his eyes wide open. “Please don’t make me…I-I don’t want to be in the dark again!”
Dean took Cas’s face in between his hands to hold his gaze. Only talking when he knew Cas was seeing him. “It’s okay, Cas. I got you. Nobody’s taking you away from me ever again.”
“Promise?” Dean felt Cas’s grip at his shoulder, holding him with desperation.
“Promise.”
That’s how Cas became human.
The nightmares have him waking up screaming some days, but at least Cas knew he was safe from the Empty’s clutches.
He was going to live his human life being loved and taken care of, and Dean was happy to say he felt Cas was doing the same for him.

Their Little Secret
Pairing: Loki x Fem!Reader
Plot: This can be read as a sequel to What If or even as a solo.
The reader and Loki have been best friends for long, but eventually realised that it was more than just friendship. As they secretly step into a new world, the entire team, unbeknownst to it all, makes it their mission to make the love birds realise and confess what they feel for each other.
Warnings: Fluff, slight angst in relationship, a happy ending! Oh! And late-night hazards and a long read. Sorry!
Read time: ~26 mins
Tumblr media
“(Y/N), could you please take a look at this once?”
Loki waltzed in through (Y/N)’s door with a file in his hand. She was reading a book, when he knocked.
“It’s pretty late. I thought you said you’d go straight to bed. What are you doing with this poor old piece of rat-food now?”
“I did. But then I couldn’t sleep. So...I thought of doing something boring enough to lull me to sleep. But this old file actually turned out to be quite interesting,” he explained animatedly. “I just couldn’t understand one part. So, here I am!”
She eyed him suspiciously as he spread his arms to accentuate his royal presence.
“That, or you wanted to see me, and this file is a flimsy excuse,” she drawled.
“Come on, darling! I’m fond of you but not to the extent that I’ll have to make lame excuses to see you. Besides, why would I need to lie to you?”
After taking a moment to consider his words, she stepped beside him and asked him to show the file.
“It is here - this part,” he pointed at a chunk of printed information.
“This one is…” She pondered aloud. “That doesn’t make sense! Loki, w-where did you get this from? That doesn’t look like any mission report or anything. It looks like...an excerpt...from...a book?”
Before she could register, a kiss landed on her cheek. It was immediately followed by Loki excitedly wishing her, “Goodnight, darling,” and vanishing into a green glow.
She stood stunned for a while. Gradually, the tingling sensation where Loki’s lips had caressed her skin began to spread like wildfire through her face, and soon she was blushing and smiling like an idiot.
“Idiot!” She cursed him as she flopped back on the bed.
After a few seconds of fiddling with the bookmark, and staring at blurred lines on the page, she closed the book, and decided to call it a night. After what Loki just did, nothing else could compare to a happier ending to the day.
As she closed her eyes, sunny memories started flooding her mind.
It had all started hardly two months ago, when they were having their usual midnight snacks, casually talking the day’s stress away, talking nonsense - just the usual best buddy night.
But then something happened: a childish game of “what-ifs”.
It was fun, for the most part, until Loki had asked her about her intentions if she met the love of her life the next day. Already stained with painful memories of past relationships and with the hopelessness about her love life, she tried her best to evade the question. But Loki, being Loki, kept proding her until she gave him a genuine reason for her frustration.
And everything changed after that. Because in trying to save the other from falling down the emotional cliff, they had saved each other. They had found each other.
She laughed softly as she remembered the hesitancy in both their hearts as they had crossed the threshold of friendship.
That was the first time that she had kissed him. On the cheek. And that was even before she had fully realised that her feelings for him were no longer platonic.
That was the first time Loki had put an arm around her and pulled her close to him.
Another giggle escaped her as she remembered the moment when the soft morning light, and a stiff back had awakened her from her sleep.
Both were still sitting in almost the same position as they had been when they were chatting.
She had found herself cocooned in the arms of Loki, her legs tangled with his, both of them safe under the thin blanket that Loki had picked while preparing for their night. Her head rested on his chest, while his rested on the top of her head.
The last thing that she remembered from the previous night was them promising each other that no matter how things turned out, they’d always be beside one another. And then Loki had pulled her closer, and gently laid her head on his throbbing chest.
It was now peacefully moving up and down with his sleepy breaths. Before opening her eyes to reality, she stole a few moments to let this feeling sink in.
When she had closed her eyes the night before, there was an excitement so high in the air that Thor’s thunder would have been ashamed. It was the hammering of Loki’s heart that had eventually put her to sleep.
The morning brought a peaceful rhythm beneath her ears. It was beautiful, it was calm, it was...reassuring. She loved it more than the thrill of the past few hours.
But no matter how long she tried to soak herself in the feeling, the incidents of the night before still seemed somewhat unbelievable. How could something months long change overnight? Was it all a mirage then, cast by the treacherous night?
The darkness of the night sets the mind free to imagine anything, take any decision. But the clarity of the day brings logic to the forefront, which sometimes turns out to be good but sometimes not so good.
But...it had felt right. She took a deep breath to clear her mind. It still felt right. That was all the assurance that she needed for the moment.
As she turned in her bed, she remembered the raspy voice in which Loki had wished her a good morning.
The close proximity, the husky, sleep-laden voice, the sudden change in the air - everything made blood rush to her cheeks and ears. Loki had sleepily chuckled at her flushed state, though he was only slightly better than her in hiding his own flustered state.
Ever since, not a single day had passed when the two of them hadn’t thanked the stars.
She used to think that she loved Loki’s friendship more than anything. She was happy to be proven wrong when she experienced Loki’s courtship.
A different flower everyday, sometimes inside her room, laid carefully near her door, sometimes on her bedside table, and on some mornings, beside her pillow.
She was used to going out with her best friend Loki, but going out with her boyfriend Loki was an experience on a whole new level. Light brushes of the fingers, sometimes an arm around her shoulder, intertwining of fingers, occasional brushes of his lips on her temple, and not-very-occasional blushes that tinted both their skins.
Every day, before parting for the day, she was blessed with bear hugs from him - something that she had never expected him to be fond of.
It was the best time of her life! Almost every doubt that she had about this relationship not working out had evaporated long ago. It was - she dared to say - perfect!
Except for one small hiccup: they had to keep everything off the radar.
For one, they were still testing the waters. No matter how happy and confident they were with one another, their newfound relationship was still at its infancy, and they didn’t want to declare anything to the rest of the team right away.
Second, everybody in the compound had been teasing both (Y/N) and Loki about “getting a room” for a long time. They didn’t want to give them the satisfaction of knowing that they were finally correct. Well, figuratively.
Unfortunately, the team did not know that they had already confessed their feelings to each other. And so, they were desperate to make the love birds see the truth of their emotions. The Avengers, tough and stubborn as they were, never gave up. And Loki and (Y/N) simply decided to play along.
For instance, around a month and a half ago, Tony had thrown one of his usual parties at the compound, and had brought a line of apparent suitors for (Y/N) and a host of gorgeous ladies and lads to introduce to Loki.
Though the new couple was initially confused at the unbridled attention, they eventually understood what was going on: Tony Stark had decided to use the age-old recipe of jealousy to crack either one or both of them.
It was fun, they both admitted later, to dance to the tune, and give the host a frowning face when he realised that neither were biting the bait. Instead, both seemed to be enjoying themselves flirting or dancing with their respective “baits”.
What escaped the eagle eyes of the team were the furtive looks that both (Y/N) and Loki threw at each other from time to time. It wasn’t easy to masquerade those longing glances with playful teases that two friends might share. But they had to.
Late into the night, after the party was over, Loki teleported into (Y/N)’s room. The security cameras were still a threat to their little secret.
“Hello beautiful!” Loki purred when she didn’t turn all her attention towards him as she usually did, but kept herself apparently busy in making the bed.
“Is this my consolation prize for all your flirting this evening?” She tried to keep it casual but her displeasure seeped into her tone.
“Ooh, someone sounds jealous,” he drawled.
“Speak for yourself, God!”
Loki stepped towards her, and gently caught her hand, putting a pause to her actions.
“Look at me. Please?”
She smiled as she faced him, but he could easily catch the facade.
“I know what you're trying to do. You can’t fool me, (Y/N).”
“And what is it that I’m doing?” She tried to question with the same casualness but her voice kept betraying her.
“You are trying to make it look like it didn’t affect you - me being with all those lovely people. But in reality, you are hurt, even if it is a tiny bit.”
Her smile faltered. Of course, she couldn’t fool the God of Lies!
Closing her eyes, she shook her head, “I don’t know why you’re saying this Loki. I’m perfectly fine! Why would I-”
“You and I understand each other perfectly,” Loki gently cut her off. “Or did you forget that?”
He reminded her of the one line - of the one realisation - that had triggered the tiniest thoughts of them being possibly together, if at all.
Realizing that all doors were closed for her, she tried to turn away from him, only to be stopped by the trickster.
“If it makes you feel any good,” he resumed, “it did burn me a bit, too, to watch you dance and laugh with those clowns.”
At this, she burst into laughter. Loki was glad at the change of mood, and allowed a few happy creases around his eyes as well.
“Is that true,” she asked, “or are you simply trying to make me feel better?”
He shrugged, “What do you think?”
“I’d like to believe that it’s true,” she confessed shyly.
“It is.”
“Well then,” she said after suppressing a wild grin that tried to crack its way through, “I guess that makes us even.”
“Guess so.”
“I’m sorry, Loki,” she sighed, “I lied earlier because I didn’t want to put any kind of pressure on you or anything. I mean...jealousy? That’s the first stage of obsession. And...I don’t want you to think that...”
“Hey,” Loki held both her hands in his, “your feelings for me will never suffocate me. On the contrary, they help me breathe. You have given my life a new purpose. I thought I was happy being your best friend. But this...this is even better. Never think that you’re putting any kind of pressure on me. None of those men or women out there, or anywhere for that matter, can bring me what I feel with you, for you.”
Words seemed insufficient for what she wanted to say. So, she simply nodded, and wrapped her arms around his torso.
“Thank you,” she murmured into his chest.
He chuckled as he ran his hand on her head, “Being jealous actually makes you look cute.”
She unwrapped herself from him just enough to look at his face, “Says the man who just confessed being jealous himself!”
“I never said I don’t look cute,” he shrugged again.
Shaking her head and laughing, she pulled his face down, and placed a warm kiss on his cheek.
“Go now, before I punch that cute face of yours.”
“When you say ‘punch’,” Loki drawled, “do you mean…’kiss every inch of’...?”
Blushing furiously, she pushed him towards the door.
“Shut up, and just go!”
Loki laughed as he wished her a lovely night, and disappeared into his usual green glow.
---------------
But the Avengers were not the ones to give up.
Not many weeks later, Natasha planned an evening at one of her favourite nightclubs. While Steve, Vision and Bucky backed out of the plan, given their previous not-so-delightful interactions with the loudness and the crowd, Thor and Tony were adamant on dragging Loki with them.
“We thought you liked a little fun! Since when did you start wearing grandpa’s knickers?” Tony snorted.
“C’mon, brother, don’t embarrass me,” Thor’s voice boomed in Loki’s room. “(Y/N) has embarrassed me enough. She didn’t want to go either. Said she’d rather sleep than be tormented by the blasted noise.”
She said what? That means she’s going to stay back-
“Wait, what?” Tony turned towards Thor with a perplexed look, “She said that?”
He turned around to face Loki again, “Are you two planning something or have you both become boring?”
No, no, no! They’ll add up…
“I am not boring!” Loki declared. He decided to stay quiet on the other option that Stark had mentioned.
“Well, then join us,” Tony shrugged.
With a dramatic roll of his eyes, Loki agreed.
Needless to say, his eyes went wide when he saw (Y/N) dressed up and ready for the outing when he was expecting her in her pajamas. When she silently questioned him, he immediately realised that he had been tricked.
I have to be more careful.
The team’s plan soon became obvious when, after a few rounds of shots, everyone made a beeline to the dance floor, leaving behind a string of excuses, and Loki and (Y/N) at the bar. Even through the crowd, the duo’s trained eyes could catch glimpses of their teammates shadowing them.
“Do they really think getting drunk will make us confess?” She shouted over the sound of the music.
“I’m a God,” he shouted back. “Midgardian liquor doesn’t affect me anyway.”
“Well, it affects me,” she shrugged and drained another shot down her throat, “and I love it!”
Last one.
She had started feeling dizzy. Getting wasted could be saved for another moment when she wasn’t being spied on.
A few minutes passed in silence as neither was fond of shouting to communicate. (Y/N) bobbed her head to the music while Loki eyed the mass of bodies swaying and moving with the beats.
“Would you-” Loki began but stopped midway.
While her eyes questioned him, he silently slipped from the stool, and came to stand almost behind her.
His hot breath, dipped in a faint whiff of alcohol, hit the shell of her ear as he purred, “Would you like to dance with me?”
She was rendered immobile for a while. A small corner of her mind wondered if Loki knew what he was doing to her.
I bet he knows what he’s doing.
“I’d have loved to!” She drawled. “It’s a shame there isn’t room for a waltz here, and I wouldn’t want a God like you to hop like teeangers in the crowd.”
She felt his chest brush against her back.
“I was actually hoping that you’d be up for that dance,” he pointed at a section of the crowd where bodies were gliding against each other in the most provocative ways.
Her breath hitched again. She didn’t need to turn her head to know that Loki was smirking at his achievement.
But this time, she wouldn’t squeal, she wouldn’t push him away with a timid smile. Diffidence and boldness both tugged at polar ends of her heart until boldness won the war.
Not this time. Two can play the game, darling.
“So, what’s stopping you?” Her lips almost brushed his earlobe as she tilted her head to whisper in his ear.
Where did that come from?!
Loki wasn’t prepared for this.
It was usually him who threw mildly suggestive comments which she pushed away with a shy gesture. He never expected the tables to turn so quickly.
She did not even have enough shots to get drunk yet, he noticed.
“What happened, did the cat get your silver tongue?” She smirked.
“I-I...uh...”
While Loki continued to gape at her, an inkling of panic nudged her chest.
Did I take it too far? He obviously wasn’t ready for this, but…
It all must have been another prank for him, and I…
No!
With a cackle, she sliced the apparent tension in the air. “So, finally got you, ha? Mischief!” She winked.
Turning towards the bartender, she ordered another shot.
Loki’s brain was still trying to decipher her behaviour.
Did she really mean it…? It didn’t look like a joke though…
As she focused on her drink, he thought he saw a flicker of disappointment cross her face, but the incessant dance of light and shadows made her features almost unreadable.
“You should get back to your seat, y’know?” She told him with downcast eyes.
“What?”
“The team might notice and...they might know.”
Did her voice just...tremble?
Loki hated the place: the noise, the dim lights, the secrecy - he hated the way everything seemed to veil her from him.
“I think I’ll go find them.”
Downing another drink, she hopped off her seat, and disappeared in the crowd, leaving Loki to his thoughts.
Once they were back in the compound, Loki went straight to (Y/N)’s room. This time he did not sneak into her room using magic; he knocked on her door. This wasn’t the moment to play a game of cat and mouse. If the entire compound was prying on him, he would gladly allow them to. Well, maybe not gladly.
“Hey! Hi, Loki!”
Her smile was as bright as ever.
Was it all in my mind then?
“Are you alright?” He tried to sound calm but his anxiety turned out to be more stubborn than him.
“Yes, I am. What- Come inside first.”
She stepped aside, allowing him to stride into her room, and flump down on the bed.
“I’m sorry,” he began honestly, “I thought...I thought you were upset. At the club… I thought I saw you...sad? I’m not sure. I just had this feeling that you’re probably not okay, and-”
“Loki,” she held his shoulders and gently hushed him, “I’m fine.”
Her assurance enabled him to breathe normally again.
Caressing his face, she placed a light kiss on his forehead.
“Thank you, Loki! For everything. For caring so much about me.”
“(Y/N),” he held her hand, “are you hiding something? From me?”
He didn’t miss the way she gulped before replying.
“Why would you say that?”
“Look, I’m sorry if I cross the lines sometimes. I know I tease you but those are… I’m sorry if I’ve ever made you uncomfortable or have hurt you.”
“You are an idiot! Do you know that? You’ve never hurt me or made me uncomfortable. Now, get these stupid thoughts out of your little brain, and give me that devilishly charming smile of yours.”
Despite all her compliments, his eyes did not light up as they usually did.
“Are you sure?” He asked her.
“Absolutely!”
“You’ll tell me if you’re upset, won’t you? Promise me.”
He took note of how she licked her lips before nodding.
Something is not right.
“Come here,” he pulled her in his arms, and buried his face in the crook of her neck. “And I’m not an idiot. I am smart.”
---------------
The next few weeks turned out to be more and more challenging as the team was now hell-bent on getting them exposed. What made them so sure of their relationship was still a mystery to the couple.
“Are we that obvious?” (Y/N) asked Loki one day.
“I don’t know,” he shrugged. “It is said that it shows on the faces of those in love. So, I guess...”
The words, coming from him, filled her with warmth. If that be true, and if everyone could see that they were in love only by looking at them, then she’d happily trade their secrecy for more obviousness.
But every time they came close to taking the relationship to the next level, she would find Loki backing away. Every time they had the opportunity to reveal their beautiful secret to the team, he would quickly shield both of them.
Why, Loki? Do you not want us?
---------------
It was a rainy evening when Tony had gathered everyone in the living room. At first (Y/N) thought that it was an urgent meeting for a new mission. But when she knew the actual reason behind it, she couldn’t prevent the snort that escaped her.
“Excuse me?” Tony pointed at her. “You got some problem, princess?”
“Truth or dare? Like, how old are we? Twelve?”
Tony spread his arms as if to silently make a point. “Since when did you start categorizing fun into ages? Ever since you started dating Rock of Ages?”
“Hey!” Loki made a tiny protest at his nickname.
“We are not dating,” (Y/N) deadpanned.
“And there goes my question,” Wanda sighed from across the room.
In response, (Y/N) simply rolled her eyes, and grumbled, “Kids!”
Once the game started, the team wasted no time in getting to the point: (Y/N) and Loki.
The first one to get attacked was Loki.
“No, no truth for you,” Sam chimed in just as Loki sucked in a breath to choose “truth”.
“He’s the God of Lies!” Sam announced, “He can easily slip away with any lie!”
“The bird’s got a point!” Tony agreed, followed by everyone else. “‘Dare’ for you!”
“This is not how it works,” Loki protested.
“Did you play this on Asgard? Thor?”
“No, we had never even heard of it until we came here,” the big brother responded.
“But-”
“Nah-ah!” Tony didn’t let him finish. “This is exactly how it is played. Who wants to give the God of Mischief a mischievous dare?”
(Y/N) wanted to protest; she wanted to tell Tony that he was bending the rules to get to them. But any word of support would further corner them both. All she could do was play along.
“Kiss (Y/N). And you know where I mean.”
Nat’s voice yanked her out of her thoughts. She watched in horror as Loki’s expressions changed from shock to anger while the entire team cheered.
“Nat!” (Y/N) jumped up from her seat, “do you even hear yourself? He’s my best friend! We can’t just...”
“Why not?” Sam questioned with a smirk. “You seemed to be enjoying it when I was asked to kiss Buck. He’s my best buddy.”
“Speak for yourself,” Bucky mumbled.
“C’mon, it’s just a game! Don’t be a spoilsport.”
Steve?? Et tu?
Rubbing her eyes, (Y/N) tried to find a way out of it. She knew well that if Loki kissed her, she’d melt into it. Everything would become obvious.
No, no, no!! This can’t be. They can’t just expose us like this. Loki would be so....
Wait, why isn’t he saying anything?
She opened her eyes to see Loki standing. His expression was unfathomable.
Oh no! Is he going to…
“This is outrageous!” Loki snapped and turned on his heels to walk out of the room.
Oh!
For reasons she did not want to explore then, (Y/N)’s heart dropped several feet. She was expecting a similar reaction from him but wasn’t hoping for it.
Quickly gravitating back to the situation in hand, she stammered an excuse or two for his behaviour, and followed his tracks to check on him.
Once both of them were out of earshot, Tony leaned towards the group, “Did we save it or kill it.”
“Looks like we killed it,” Sam sighed.
“Trust me,” Wanda smiled, “we saved it.”
“Vision? What do you think?”
“I still do not understand why you have to torment them like this. Let them come out when they want to. It’s-”
“Okay!” Tony interrupted him. “Sorry I asked! My bad!”
The door to Loki’s room was half open when (Y/N) arrived. Gingerly, she admitted herself inside.
Loki was standing at the window, with his back towards her. His head was bowed but his hands were curled into fists on both sides of his body.
“Loki?”
The name came out so softly that she couldn’t be sure if he had heard it, given that he did not move at all.
But before she could call him again, he spoke.
“I did not want this to happen,” his voice bore that particular kind of seriousness that usually preceded an unwanted or unhappy revelation.
What?
“I am sorry, (Y/N).” He turned towards her, and she realised in an instant that he wasn’t fooling around.
“What are you talking about, Loki? What did you not want to happen?”
Her chest felt tighter with every passing second.
Please, not what I’m fearing.
“This,” his hand vaguely gestured towards the hallway. “Whatever happened just now. I knew they would come down to this one day. I never wanted-”
“It’s okay,” she interjected. “I did not like that either. Although they meant no harm. It was just for fun… And I understand if you're having second thoughts. This entire thing between us was just something… y’know, a spur of the moment kind of thing. I totally understand if-"
"(Y/N)! Where is this coming from? What are you even talking about?"
She couldn’t make herself look at him, for if she did, he could clearly see the moisture pooling in her eyes. She needed to appear strong.
“Loki, you’ve always been my best friend. And I’ve loved that. You know it. And it’s okay if this new turn in our relationship does not turn out to be something that you had hoped for. It happens. It’s okay-”
“It’s not okay for me,” Loki grasped her hands. “What are you saying? Why? A-are you not happy with me? Have I done something wrong? Did I offend you in any way?”
What is he saying? I thought…
As she looked up at him, a couple of drops ran down her cheeks and on her shirt.
“(Y/N), please tell me. You had promised to tell me anything and everything that upsets you. So, tell me what happened. Why do you speak of our relationship as if it was a mistake?”
“It never was a mistake for me,” she breathed, “I thought you felt...I thought you...”
“What?”
The shaky way in which the question came out of him stung her more than any thought of Loki not wanting this relationship. It was then that she realised how badly she had hurt him.
He never wanted to leave! He always wanted me? Us?
She didn’t know what to say.
“I’m sorry,” she finally managed. “I thought that you...didn’t want...this. Us. I-”
“Why would you even think so? Why would you bear such thoughts when I love you with every fiber of my being?”
Her head snapped up.
“You love me?” Her own voice became shaky.
“Of course, I do,” he gently placed a hand on her cheek, “always have. At first I thought it was a love for friends until that night, when I realised that I wanted to be more than just friends with you.”
More tears fell down her cheek as she rejoiced in the moment. Loki wiped them all, and placed soft kisses on each cheek.
“And all this time, I was afraid that you’re having second thoughts,” she confessed.
“And why is that?”
“Because...”
How do I say that it’s because you haven’t kissed me yet? And ran away from the one moment we had today, albeit in a not-so-comfortable situation?
“Because I haven’t kissed you yet?” Loki asked her.
Her heart beat so violently, she could have sworn that Loki could hear it. Her tongue felt too heavy to speak.
“I didn’t think you were ready,” he admitted. “That is the reason why I did not dance with you in the club either. I was teasing you, yes, but when you responded I was definitely taken aback. I wasn’t sure if it was you or the ambience talking. So…
You have always shied away from any comments that I make, and...I did not want to push anything on you.”
“Oh, Loki!”
She hugged him so hard that even the Asgardian had to take two steps back to balance himself.
“I’m so, so sorry,” she wept into his shirt. “I misunderstood your actions for… I pushed you away. I thought you weren’t ready for this relationship. I’m sorry!”
Tears of both apology and relief flooded her. He tried to sush her as he rocked her slowly from side to side.
After taking a moment to compose herself, she stood straight. Loki looked at her red-eyed, tear-stained face and tutted.
“Doesn’t suit you, darling. Show me your crazy, grinning face.”
With a chuckle, she gave him a funny face-splitting smile, making both of them laugh.
“(Y/N), I didn’t want to kiss you because of a game or under the watchful eyes of that insufferable bunch of imbeciles. But if you will allow me now, I-”
“Just stop being so polite for a change, and kiss me,” she tugged at the collars of his shirt.
Loki didn’t need to be asked twice.
---------------
In the hall, the Avengers were busy speculating the outcome of their little plan, when the couple in discussion walked in. Hand in hand.
“Yes, we had changed our relationship status around six months ago,” (Y/N) announced to a stunned audience.
“And yes, we kissed. Just now. And I hope you know where I mean,” Loki added before dragging his love away towards the elevator.
“What was that?” She whispered as she was being whisked away.
“What?” Loki asked innocently, although his eyes stated otherwise.
“You didn’t need to declare that we just kissed!” She laughed as the doors of the elevator closed.
He shrugged while jabbing at a button. “They wanted us to kiss anyway. So, I gave them the satisfaction of knowledge. Besides, they need to know who you belong to now.”
“Aha! Possessive?”
“No! I also made it clear who I belong to now.”
He smiled as the doors opened to the hallway that led to his room. And once again, his words had rendered her speechless.
Silver tongue!

Paring: Gibbs x Reader
Warnings!: mentions of abuse, angst, crying, comforting, abusive relationship, cursing, mentions of injuries from abuse
Prompt: "You flinched"
-------------
I laid on the ground, not having enough energy to stand up. I couldn't move, and God did it hurt to breathe. Probably a bruised rib, would definitely have some bruises to add to the collection.
Hopefully nothing bad enough to send me to the hospital. The last time I did that, well it was just really bad, and Darren was pissed. So pissed that when we got home, he beat me all over again.
Now I know what you're thinking. What is a federal agent doing staying in an abusive relationship like this? Truth is, I had no idea. At first it was because I thought the beatings would eventually stop, but they didn't. And after realizing they would never stop, I tried to get out. But that only left to another hospital trip and threats. The threats were the only reason that I stayed.
Darren threatened a lot of things. He threatened to beat me so bad I couldn't move. To kill me. But the worst was that he threatened to hurt my team. He knew the whole team, he knew them really well. He worked at NCIS for God's sake, just not on Gibbs team. And that was enough for me to stick around.
Of course, it should be known that it wasn't always like this. Darren was a good guy in the beginning. He brought me flowers and took me out to nice restaurants. He made time for me, and I did the same for him. But then, he didn't get the open spot on Gibbs team. I did. And it all went downhill from there.
The bruises were getting extremely hard to hide. Turtlenecks and long pants were becoming my everyday wardrobe. Which wasnt the easiest thing to work in, but foundation was expensive, and Darren spent most of our money on alcohol or cigarettes. Whatever his weekly fix was. It was ... exhausting. The front I had put up in front of everyone was tearing me down, and people were starting to notice.
Tony and Ziva, who sat closest to me would send me a concerned glance each time I winced when moving. I blamed it on muscle pain, from working out so much.
Abby would see the amount of makeup I was wearing and would ask if I was okay. Of course she just thought I was insecure. She would always tell me that I was bueatiful and that I didn't need makeup. It warmed my heart each and every time she said it.
Palmer was concerned because he had caught one of my bruises. It was on my wrist and my sleeve had rolled up slightly. He had asked about it and I had told him the first lie that popped in my head. That I had fallen. He had taken me straight to Ducky to make sure that it was actually okay. Which is how Ducky got involved.
And then there was Gibbs. Gibbs didn't ask questions, he didn't push for answers, he didn't send me concerned glances. But I was certain he knew something. He didn't know what was actually going on, because he would beat the shit out of Darren if he knew. But he just seemed like he knew something. I knew that if I was going to go to anyone about my "issue", it would be him. Gibbs had been there for me since I had joined the team. And we both had spent plenty of late nights in the office talking. Me, avoiding going home to Darren and him not wanting to go back to his empty house.
Everyone had said that Gibbs was this hard man that never opened up and remained silent most of the time. But boy once he got talking, he never shut up. We talked about eveything. And sometimes nothing, just enjoying each others presence. And if I'm honest, I may have been developing feelings for the guy. But I could never do that, because Darren would probably kill him. And that scared me more than anything.
But life seemed okay. Atleast I was the only one getting hurt.
Of course until it all came crashing down. And it had just been a normal day.
* * *
I sat at my desk, working on and endless stack of paperwork that came with each case. We had just wrapped one up, a good ending thankfully. The team was in high spirits, talking about going out to a bar tonight. But I knew Darren wouldn't have it. I had turned down the offer, instead opting to sit and do paperwork until I had to go home.
Everyone had left for the night, leaving me alone in the bullpen. My hand was a scribbling away, when I had felt the gentle tap of a hand against my shoulder. I should have been more careful, but I had thought it was Darren. So I flinched away from him and crossed my arms in front of my face.
"Y/n?" Gibbs. It was Gibbs. That was it. Just Gibbs. I instantly pulled my arms down and straightened up.
"H-hey Gibbs. What um, what can I do for you." He just stared at me, giving me the usual Gibbs glare.
"You flinched." I grimaced. Of course I did. I didn't want him to find out like this, but I guess this is how its gonna go.
"Um- I, I. Well you see Gibbs-" he cut me off.
"Is someone hittin ya?" He paused thinking, before remembering my oh so lovely boyfriend. "That son of a bitch."
"Wait Gibbs. Its not what you think." But the damage was done. He was going through everything in his mind. My clothes, the grimaces everytime I jerked around, the excuses, the late nights avoiding going home. It all made sense to him now.
"Take off your shirt." My eyes grew wide.
"Excuse me?"
"You heard me." There was no avoiding this, he wasn't letting me off easily. I took a deep breath before grabbing the bottom of my turtleneck and bringing it over my head. His breath hitched when he saw the bruises that littered my skin.
"My god y/n." He shook his head, running the rough pads of his fingers up and down my arms. "Gonna kill him." And he stood back up, turning quickly before stomping towards the elevator. I slipped my shirt back on and ran after him, but he was already gone. I hurried down to the parking garage and jumped in my car speeding off.
He was gonna kill him. Although who would kill who, I didn't know.
I broke just about every speeding law on the way to my house. When I got there, the door was kicked open and yelling was coming from inside the house.
"Gibbs!" I shouted, running as fast as I could. I walked in the door and gasped. There was glass littering the floor, and picture frames scattered across the ground. I walked further in the house and found them in my kitchen. Gibbs on top of Darren, repeatedly punching him in the face.
"Gibbs! Stop!" I ran to him, pulling him off of Darren. "Stop, he isn't worth it." I pulled Gibbs up by his arm and dragged him away. But he wasn't finished.
"Ya ever go near her again, you're gonna wish you were dead. We'll come back for her stuff, you better not be here when we do." I wanted to cry, to scream, to shout. But I held it in, grabbing Gibbs more forcefully and dragging him back outside.
Once outside, we hopped in his car, and he began driving back to his house. Saying I was grateful was an understatement. Grateful that it was finally over. That maybe I could sleep at night now without worrying about waking up to another beating.
The ride was driven in silence, and soon we were at his house. He got out of the car and walked inside, leaving me out here by myslef. I walked in after him.
I found him in the the kitchen pouring a glass of Bourbon. I came up behind him hugging him.
"Thank you." He froze for a minute before turning in my grasp and brining me into a tight hug. And thats what started the tears. We stood there as I cried into his chest for what felt like forever. Until he finally pulled away and cupped my face.
"Ya didn't deserve any of that. Don't know what happened, or when it started. But ya didn't deserve any of it. You are beautiful and loved and noone should ever have to be treated the way you were." He paused and I began rambling out whatever words came to my mind.
"It was you. I stayed because he threatened you. He said he would hurt you and the team and I couldn't let him." He leaned his forehead against mine. The tears pouring steadily down my face, sobs racking by body.
"Shh, shh. Sweetheart its okay." He leaned in slightly, our lips brushing slightly. And then he leaned in the rest of the way, kissing me into he most gentle way he could. So much different than the bruising kisses that Darren would give me. He broke away after a second.
"Dont know if your ready for it, but I love ya." He said softly. "We can do this, if you want. At your own pace. I just want to show you whats its like to be loved the right way." I nodded.
"I might need some time. But I love you too... Jethro." He smiled.
"Take all the time you need. But m'not leaving your side." I giggled softly as he brought me into another hug. And I stood there whispering thank yous and I love yous until we headed off to bed. I hadn't felt this safe in a long time, and I never wanted to let this feeling go.

________
The room was toasty warm when you woke the next morning. It took a split second to remember you weren’t in your room and that there was a warm body next to you. Your did a tiny stretch and felt a weight over your waist. It pulled you closer and you smiled, lazily opening your eyes.
“Good morning sunshine,” he said, hair spiked up every which way, green eyes big and sleepy.
“Morning,” you said, shutting your eyes again and nuzzling him.
“Just when I thought you couldn’t be any more adorable in the mornings, I get to see you waking up,” he said. He played with a piece of your hair and you threw your arm over his waist, holding onto him. “You’re so fucking cute.”
“Cuddle buddies, remember?” you mumbled.
“I’m down for that,” he said. He squeezed you and giggled, kissing your forehead until you turned your head upwards. “Hi.”
“Hi handsome,” you said. He pecked a kiss on your lips, a trio of feet running down the hall.
“The vultures are awake. Prepare for impact.”
“What?” you said, the door opening and three very small bodies climbing up on the bed.
“Y/N, what are you doing in daddy’s bed?” asked Arrow.
“Don’t you guys want to sleep in for like once?” asked Jensen. He pulled her down to his other side, Zeppelin doing a dive right between you and Jensen, while JJ plopped down behind you. A pillow was knocked over his face as the twins started crawling over him, Jensen chuckling and pushing it out of the way. His face poked out just as JJ started to jump behind you, a little smile there. “Welcome to my Sunday mornings.”
“Glad I was invited this time,” you said. He was about to speak when he squeezed his eyes shut and bent his body in half.
“Zeppelin,” he grit out. “No jumping on daddy’s lap, remember?”
“Oh. I forgot,” he said.
“Who wants pancakes this morning?” you asked. All three shot their hands up and you smiled. “Well you better go brush your teeth if you want some. Go on guys.”
They ran off the bed and out of the room, Jensen laughing when you moved the pillow away.
“Think you’ll survive?” you asked.
“That kid is single handedly going to guarantee I can’t have more children,” he chuckled. He sat up and stared at you, looking you over.
“That’s not a conversation for right now.”
“No, it’s not. But...are you interested in your own?” he asked.
“My mom didn’t have my blood but she was still my mom. I don’t need to make a kid to love it,” you said.
“I know. I wonder is all.”
“I’m not sure.”
“Okay,” he said softly.
“Are you, in more?”
“I don’t know. I’m almost 43, in like a month. I don’t want to…I don’t want to have a kid so late in life that they see me go early in their life, you know? That’d be cruel to do.”
“You got a lot of road ahead of you. You’re not like seventy, dude.”
“I know. Everything this year just…it’s just one more kid someday that’s gonna get hurt,” he said.
“It’s one more kid to love too though. Let’s talk about this much, much further down the line, okay?”
“Okay with me,” he said. You rolled out of bed and he followed after, holding his hands over himself.
“You need an ice pack?” you asked.
“No, I’m good,” he said. “He’s a little...up this morning is all.”
“Oh I noticed,” you said. His cheeks went pink and you laughed. “Dude. Morning wood is normal.”
“Oh. Good. I thought maybe considering what you told me last night it might have...bothered you,” he said.
“I don’t got a problem with dicks or sex. I got a problem with people invading my personal space with them without my consent,” you said. “We cool?”
“Yeah. I’m gonna take care of this. I’ll be down in a second,” he said.
“Have fun,” you said, winking as you headed out.
“The view of you in my clothes is not helping,” he said. You swayed your hips and heard him groan. “You’re gonna pay for that.”
“I sure hope so,” you laughed. You changed into some fresh clothes in your room, something comfortable for the day before you jogged downstairs and found the three of them watching cartoons. “Okay. So who wants to help make breakfast?”
Two Weeks Later
“Shopping buddy!” said Antony when you and Jensen found your way over to the table where he and a few of Jensen’s other new cast mates were getting a drink and some food.
“Wow you really are too adorable when you’re not playing a psychopath,” you said, sliding into the booth beside him, getting a hug. “Hi. I’m Y/N, his shopping buddy.”
“Erin, Karl,” said Jensen. “Don’t you have a super huge crush on Karl, Y/N?”
“Yours is bigger,” you said, a waiter bringing over a pair of drinks and setting them down. You were about to order when you looked at the man and rolled your eyes. “You gotta be kidding me.”
“We’d like a new waiter. Now,” said Jensen. He stared at you and then Jensen before nodding and leaving.
“What was that about?” asked Erin.
“That was my father. We’re not on good terms,” you said.
“Gotcha. So how’s a pretty girl like you end up with this ugly?” said Karl.
“Aw, he thinks you’re pretty,” teased Jensen.
“I got eyes for you too, Jensen. Don’t be jealous,” he chuckled.
“Later guys,” said Jensen, arm over your shoulder as you headed for your car a few hours later. “Thanks for going. I’m still getting to know everyone.”
“I had fun. I like your new friends. I’d like to get to know Jared more when we’re back home.”
“Really?” he asked with a soft smile.
“He’s your best friend. You talk to the guy everyday. He’s important to you.”
“Yes he is. I’d definitely love for you guys to get along.”
“Me too,” you said, arm around his waist.
“Y/N,” you heard behind you and froze, Jensen already spinning around and pushing you behind him.
“Buddy stay the fuck away from her. I’m serious,” said Jensen.
“That’s my daughter,” he said.
“I’d rather die than hurt my daughters unlike some people. Get your piece of shit ass away from us,” said Jensen.
“Y/N, I got help,” he said, looking past Jensen. “I did.”
“Do I look like I care?”
“Y/N-” he said, trying to get around Jensen and earning a shove for it instead.
“I told you to back off.”
“Hey,” you heard from outside the restaurant, Jensen’s co-stars walking down from where they were waiting for their ride. “What’s going on here?”
“Leave,” Jensen told your father again.
“I want to talk to-”
“Excuse me but I think our friends asked you to leave them alone,” said Antony. You swallowed and noticed people starting to look. The last thing you needed was this turning into a fight and all of them ending up on the front of TMZ.
“Dad,” you said, brushing past Jensen. “Stay the fuck out of my life. Come near me again and I’ll call the cops.”
“I am sorry for what happened.” Jensen growled and you put a hand on his chest, pushing him back.
“You want to make it up to me?” you asked. “Move to Alaska, somewhere I’ll never have to see your face again.”
“Y/N-”
“Leave and never, I mean never, come back.”
He went back into the restaurant and you took a deep breath, glancing down.
“Sorry about that,” you said.
“You guys good?” they asked and you nodded. “Jensen?”
“Yeah I’m good. I’ll see you guys at work,” he said. You pulled him away and down the sidewalk, holding his hand tightly. “Don’t step in front of me like that.”
“Why?”
“I don’t want you near him. Ever.”
“Forget about him. Please. We had fun tonight. That’s all I want to focus on.”
“Okay,” he said when you got to the crosswalk. He pulled you into his side and kissed your temple.
“You’re shaking,” you said.
“I’m freaking out a little bit to be honest,” he said. You hugged him and walked across the street, pulling him into a bar. You found a quiet table in the corner and got him an old fashioned, leaving him seated while you got an order of pretzels too.
“Eat this,” you said, placing the basket of warm soft dough in front of him. He picked one up and ripped it apart, dipping it in mustard and then the cheese.
“This is really good,” he said. You pulled off his hat and carded your fingers through his hair, Jensen glancing down. “I’m sorry. I should be taking care of you right now.”
“I’m okay and I happen to like taking care of you. Always have,” you said. He nodded and rested his head on your shoulder, eating quietly as you listened to an in house band play on the other side of the bar. “I like this place. It’s kinda quaint.”
“Try some,” he said, holding up the pretzel. You took a bite and hummed. “S’good.”
“Very good. You feel like you calmed down some.”
“I thought he might hurt you. I was so fucking angry it scared me.”
“But you still listened to me and calmed down for me. I’m not gonna be mad that you want to protect me from him.”
“I feel like I can’t do anything to protect people I care about anymore.”
“Did she ever have to force you to relax?”
“Hm?”
“Your wife. Did she make you take time off or relax or have a lazy day?” you asked.
“Yeah. How’d you know that?”
“I think your life has been so busy for so long you forget to have the quiet moments to yourself, even though I think that’s truly what you enjoy. I think you had more fun tonight than you would have without me because new people make you nervous. I think you were thrown on pause for so long after the accident that you didn’t realize that you can’t ever go back to how it was, no matter how much you want it to. You need to take more time for you Jensen. The fate of the world doesn’t rest on your shoulders. You can sleep in. You can take a day for yourself and not constantly be with the kids for hours and hours on end. You can take a second to breathe. You gotta. I’m okay. Even if something had happened tonight, it’s not the end of the world.”
He lifted his head up and blinked a few times at you. His hand cupped your cheek and he kissed you, tasting like bourbon and mustard, something different about it this time. Something possessive, something softer.
“Better?” you asked, stroking his cheek.
“I’m better,” he said, turning into the touch. “You scare me most of all, you know.”
“Why?”
“Cause this is either going to turn out really good or really bad and I’m so fucking tired of being scared.”
“Don’t be,” you said quietly. He swallowed and you looked him up and down. “You’re my best friend. I don’t want you to be scared of me.”
“You’re my best friend too,” he said, nodding and taking a deep breath. You scooted closer and hugged him, Jensen returning it for a long moment. You sat back against the corner and turned him to lean back against you, both of you watching over towards where the band played. He sipped on his drink and you played with his hair, picking at the pretzel while you held him. “Y/N.”
“Yeah?”
“Thank you.”
“Don’t thank me, honey,” you said, kissing the top of his head. “That’s my job.”
He tilted his head back and looked up at you with the biggest green eyes you’d ever seen, a warm feeling filling you. You bent down and kissed him, Jensen grinning by the time you were straightening yourself out.
A few minutes went by and some more, Jensen ordering a few more drinks and food while you used the bathroom. You returned to your table and picked at fat mozzarella sticks and chicken wings, sipping on a way too expensive scotch while you listened to the band play, tucked away in Jensen’s side.
“Can I admit something?” he asked while you dunked a cheese stick into a tiny cup of marinara. “I kinda like this more than our date a few weeks ago. Our dress up one. Don’t get me wrong, you were gorgeous but this is kinda perfect all things considered.”
“I’m a cheap date Ackles. Give me some bar food, some music and a cuddle and I’m a happy girl,” you said. You held up your stick and he bit off the end before you popped the other piece in your mouth. “I like this date too. Found out I’m your best friend and all.”
“Do you wanna…” he trailed off. You turned your head up and saw the look in his eye. You nodded and smiled, the two of you getting into your coats and heading outside. You barely caught the name of the bar before Jensen was pulling you after him down towards the car.
He turned up the heat when you were inside and drove out of the city, finding a quiet and dark little field not too far from the house.
“Um, I wasn’t...expecting this,” he said. You smirked and sat back in your seat, Jensen turning off the car but leaving the heat running. “I don’t even know what I’m…”
“I’ve never made out in the back of a car before,” you said with a shrug. “I’ve also never made out in the back of a car with you either so…”
“I was thinking something more…” he said, taking a deep breath.
“I’m not on birth control,” you said.
“I’m not having sex with you for the first time in the back of a car. I have more class than that,” he chuckled. You unbuckled your seatbelt and shrugged out of your coat, leaning over as he backed up against his door.
“If you’re not ready for this, tell me and I’ll stop,” you said. He nodded and you put a hand on his chest, unzipping his coat. Your hand rested on his lower stomach, just over his belt and he shut his eyes.
“Wait,” he said. You sat back and he sat forward in his seat again, pressing his hand over his stomach. “I’m sorry.”
“Don’t apologize,” you said. You kissed his cheek and sat back in your seat, sticking your arms in your jacket. “Seriously, don’t over think it.”
“I want to. Shit I want to do all sorts of things with you in that backseat. But I need to show you something first and it’s better at home if you find out.”
“Okay,” you said. “Let’s go home then.”
Twenty minutes later the babysitter was gone and you were watching Jensen peel off his shirt in his bedroom, back to you. He dropped his jeans and kicked them aside, turning around in his boxer briefs. He started to pull them down when you shook your head.
“I’m sorry,” he said.
“No. I think I’m wearing too many clothes is all.” You turned and took off your top, your face hot as you slipped off your leggings. You dropped them to the ground and straightened up, taking deep breaths. You’d been naked in front of your ex before plenty. But Jensen was just so damn handsome and his body was…
“Y/N,” said Jensen, close behind you but not touching you. “You okay?”
“Didn’t really think through the you seeing me basically naked thing,” you said. He lightly tapped your arm and you spun around, forcing your head up.
“Basically naked you is hot,” he said, cupping your cheek.
“I have a stomach,” you said.
“So do I,” he said, patting his own. “You are beautiful, Y/N. Believe me when I say it.”
You nodded and started to relax, Jensen tensing up again though.
“What did you want to show me?” you asked. He walked over to the bed and glanced at it. You took a seat and he shut his eyes, taking a beat before he pushed down his underwear. A thick pink scar ran over his skin and curled down to his leg.
“One of my arteries was damaged in my hip, leg, groin, whatever area, when part of the car kinda...went in me. It’s um...it’s fine now but the scar is…I’m kinda...self-conscious about it...”
“Can I?” you asked. He nodded and you reached out your hand, Jensen opening his eyes as you touched the end closest to his hip. You traced your finger over it and down, curving it back around and to the top of his thigh.
“I know it’s ugly but laser scar removal can be a bitch to deal with, especially down there. I-”
“I love it.”
“What?”
“Scars mean you survived. I’m really happy you survived so yeah, I love it. I don’t give a fuck if you have scars, Jensen. You’re so handsome and attractive and this is not ugly. This is part of you and nothing about you is ugly.”
“It’s not attractive though,” he said, putting his hand over it. You put yours over his and moved it aside.
“You’re standing in front of me naked and you think this scar is what I’m thinking about?” you asked.
“I haven’t done this with someone new in almost twenty years,” he said. “I’m nervous.”
“Me too. But I meant what I said. It’s just a scar, Jensen. I got ‘em. You got ‘em. I’m attracted to you but that sure as shit ain’t why I like you.” You gently thumbed over the skin and he rested his hand on yours, tracing over it with you this time. “Come here.”
He sat down and you knelt up on your knees, cupping his cheek and kissing him. He sank back and moved towards the middle of the bed, never breaking apart from you.
“Relax,” you said against his ear. “This is gonna be fun. I promise.”
“Can I take off your bra?” he asked. You nodded and he shook his head. “Why do I feel like I’m doing this for the first time?”
“It is the first time like this. So we’ll move at your speed, okay?”
“How do…” he said, shutting his eyes. He fisted his hands in the sheets and you wrapped your arms around him, Jensen resting his head on your shoulder. “I don’t want to...do certain things bother you?”
“Like…” you said, Jensen taking a deep breath. He lifted his head and looked at you, pursing his lips.
“Do things having to do with sex scare you? I don’t need details or why but with what happened to you I don’t want to frighten you or do something stupid.”
“You’re too sweet,” you said. You stroked his cheek and shook your head. “I’m okay. Trust me. I’ve probably done kinkier shit than you have.”
“Y/N.”
“I’m not scared of you, Ackles. I’ve had all the time in the world to work through that stuff. If you want to take off my bra and leave it at making out in bed naked, that’s fine. If you want to go further, that’s fine too. I’m not pushing you into anything. Ever. I literally can’t imagine being in your position. Take all the time-”
“Why…” he breathed out, resting his forehead against yours, hot breath fanning over your mouth. “Why are you so patient with me? You’re thirty. You could have anyone you want. Why would you want me?”
“Because you’re my best friend, Jensen. You’re the only one I do want.”
He leaned forward, hand sliding up to the back of your neck as he pressed his lips to yours. He slowly took charge of it and you let him, Jensen guiding you to lay back. You kept softly kissing him, matching his pace and cupping his face, running your fingers through his hair. A finger grazed your shoulder and then the other. You moved your arms out of the bra straps, reaching up for him again. You sat up as best you could, Jensen reaching behind you and undoing the clasp before tossing it aside. He didn’t move lower though, just kissed you lazily until he rolled back onto the mattress, pulling you to lay on top of him.
You shifted back and heard him groan when you nudged the tip of his cock.
“Sorry,” you mumbled, Jensen shaking his head.
“Take off your underwear,” he murmured.
“Jensen I don’t like to have sex unless I’m on birth control. It’s just a-”
“Of course not. There are other things we can do if that’s okay?” he asked. You nodded and rolled to the side, shimmying out of your underwear. He slid down the bed and ran his hands up your thighs, a shiver trickling down your spine.
“What are you thinking?” you breathed out.
“Wonder how you taste,” he said, licking his lips.
“Are you sure you want to?” you asked. He nodded and you returned it. He leaned down and spread your legs out, large hands sliding up and down your inner thigh, getting closer and closer each time. “What are you doing?”
“S’called foreplay sweetheart,” he said, hands gliding up over your hips and giving a gentle squeeze.
“Jesus Jensen. I was not expecting this from you.”
“Do you want me to stop?”
“Fuck no.” He smirked and inched his fingers closer and closer to you, teasingly leaving kitten kisses over your hip. Painfully slow he made his way down, dipping his head down and swiping his tongue over your clit. He was soft and gentle at first but he increased the pressure when your legs wrapped over his back.
His hands pinned your hips down to the bed, your own wandering to his hair and running through it. He was very good and when he sucked you fisted his short strands, Jensen doing it over and over while still working his tongue.
Your legs squeezed him as your orgasm snuck up on you, sharp and powerful. You moaned when the feeling died down but Jensen didn’t let up for a beat.
“Oh fuck, fuck, fuck,” you said, another orgasm tearing through you. You yelped and threw a hand over your mouth, this one even better than the last. You breathed hard as Jensen finally pulled back, smirking as he pulled his hand away from your mouth.
“Sorry. Couldn’t help myself,” he teased.
“I think you short circuited my brain,” you breathed out, staring at the ceiling. You giggled and he joined you, laying a hand over your waist. “How the fuck did you get me to come twice. That’s literally never happened outside of some alone time.”
“You find that groove, you stay in it,” he smirked. “You taste excellent by the way.”
“You’re a fucking dirty boy under that soft little face and I’m kinda super hot for it,” you said. He chuckled and you sat up, staring down at him. “Can I return the favor?”
“Yeah,” he said quietly. “Do you want a condom?”
“You clean?” you asked. He nodded and you smiled. “You okay with me not using one?”
“Yeah. Just don’t expect me to last long.”
You smiled and kissed him before you scooted down the bed. He was hard and leaking a bit of precome when you gently wrapped a hand around the base of him. He tensed up and you flicked your gaze up but he took a deep breath.
“I’m good,” he said. You licked your lips and ducked your head, taking the head of him into your mouth. He breathed harder and you stilled, waiting until he was calmer before you moved your tongue around. You didn’t stroke the rest of him, merely gave him a few teasing touches while you bobbed an inch or two, lightly hollowing your cheeks. He let out soft sighs and quiet grunts that spurred you to take more of him in. You moved lower and faster, swiping your tongue over his head. He started to throb and you sucked hard, Jensen groaning before he came. You pulled off after a moment and swallowed, wiping off your lip with your thumb and sucking it clean.
“How was that?” you smirked, Jensen throwing his arm over his face. He didn’t seem to be enjoying his post-orgasmic glow though and you tried pulling his arm away. “Hey, you okay? Was it too much?”
“No,” he said, flopping his arm down and staring up at you. “It felt great. I just...I came so fucking early.”
“When’s the last time you had a blowjob?”
“Well over six months. I still-”
“Coming early ain’t a bad thing to me,” you said. “Shit I came after like five minutes which doesn’t happen like, ever. I just care that you had fun.”
“I did,” he said, a smile coming onto his face. “I liked that little under the tip thing you were doing with your tongue.”
“Never met a man that could last longer than a few minutes with that little trick,” you said. You lay down and wrapped your arms around him, Jensen brushing his nose against yours.
“How many guys you been with? If that’s okay.”
“Three including you,” you shrugged. “Highschool party. The ex which was off and on for a long time. You. You got the nicest dick, that’s for sure.”
He chuckled and you kissed the tip of his nose, Jensen pulling you closer.
“You?”
“Oh I’ve not been with any guys,” he chuckled.
“Go gentler on the dick than you think you should. They go nuts for it,” you said.
“I will keep that in mind for when it happens,” he laughed. “Pretty much all of my girlfriends in adulthood. Seven or so I’d say.”
“I don’t know why I expected that number to be higher.”
“More than that have tried. I’m not really the hook up guy. Sure I acted like that guy when I was younger but never really was him, you know?”
“You’ve always been sweet. Probably even as a dumb teenage boy, weren’t you.”
“I was a very dumb teenage boy,” he chuckled. “But I didn’t really get in trouble. Flirted with that line once or twice but you know. Teenagers are idiots. I bet you were a good girl, weren’t you.”
“I spent most of my teenage years with my mom sick and then after that I was...I wasn’t really the girl that got involved with that stuff besides some parties.”
“Was it cancer? Your mom?” he asked.
“Radiation poisoning. She’d been accidentally exposed as a little kid on her family’s farm when she got into some supplies she shouldn’t have. Hit her harder later on in life. She’d known since she was a kid that dying young was a strong possibility. It wasn’t easy but I felt kinda better that her first husband Dan was like, maybe waiting for her or some shit. I don’t know. Ray and I used to say that to each other sometimes.”
“Why don’t you talk to Ray anymore?” he asked quietly, playing with a piece of your hair over your shoulder.
“It wasn’t like we had a fight or anything. I just got older, moved out for a nanny job at eighteen. He started to date again and he has this nice little life now with his wife and kids. The idea of a father scared me.”
“My dad’s nice if you ever want to talk to a dad sometime,” he said. He smiled before he cocked his head, his lips parting. “They have no idea I’m dating you.”
“It’s not been that long,” you said.
“I should tell them, before they hear from some tabloid or friend or something,” he said.
“Do you think they’ll have a problem with me?” you asked, his head shaking. “I mean, I’d be leery of me if I were them. I sound like a fucking movie plot. The young nanny gets with the older single dad.”
“My parents want me to be happy again and you make me happy for the first time in a very long time. There’s no way that they couldn’t love you,” he said. You nodded and closed your eyes, covers pulled up over top of the two of you after a few moments. You felt a kiss on your lips and you smiled, inching closer to him. “Thanks. For tonight.”
“You too, Jensen. It was perfect.”

My Rapunzel | Professor!Dad!Tom fic
Tumblr media
Summary: being a college professor means tom’s working from home in these difficult times, spending a lot more time with his angel of a daughter and his beautiful girlfriend, who by the way is definitely his favourite princess.
Word count - 6k
━━━━━━━━━♡♥♡━━━━━━━━━
Harrison paused right before he turned the handle on the door, turning to the girl with a sheepish, shy smile.
“Just a heads up, my best friend is probably teaching a class in here,” He warned. He’d told the girl before about how he lived with 3 of his friends, and one of them was a uni professor. So of course he’d be teaching from home in the current situation. “And, his daughter may also be running around somewhere.”
He noted the slightly surprised look that crossed her face. He’d tried to hold off bringing her to the apartment for as long as he could, specifically because he didn't know how she was with kids and he didn’t want to burden her with having to entertain Scarlett while they were meant to be hanging out.
Harrison absolutely adored Scarlett, he had from the day he met her and he never hesitated to help Tom out when he needed his help. But that didn’t mean she couldn’t be a handful at times, especially more recently when Tom hadn’t been able to give her his undivided attention.
He unlocked the door while making quiet conversation with the girl behind him, pushing on the wood and guiding her into the apartment.
Harrison knelt down on the hardwood floor in preparation for the incoming attack, hearing those tiny, sock covered feet padding towards him.
“Harrison!” she squealed, practically launching herself into his arms. He was happy to scoop her up, holding her against his chest with a smile. Her tiny arms wrapped around his neck, giving him a small hug as best she could.
The man noted the eerily quiet flat, worried that the girl had accidentally been left alone by her, at times, slightly irresponsible father.
Of course Harrison thought his best mate was an amazing dad, especially after he just had it dropped on him that he was a single father, but there were occasions where Tom did some pretty questionable and embarrassing things, the stories basically banned from being told within a 10 foot radius of the male.
“Where’s your dad, huh?” He gently pinched her cheek, making her giggle adorably and bury her face in his chest. He heard the quiet mumble, even if it was muffled by the material of his shirt.
“Working.”
Harrison rolled his eyes. “Is Uncle Harry home?”
She shook her head, looking over his shoulder at the pretty girl standing there awkwardly. Scarlett waved her little hand, flashing her a smile.
“Uncle Tuwaine?” He asked. She shook her head once again, finally receiving her wave back from the pretty woman. Harrison thought for a minute, deciding that he’d have to interrupt whatever Tom was doing to discuss this.
“You just take a seat, I’ll be back as soon as I can,” he promised the girl. He carried Scarlett into her dad’s bedroom, a swift knock on the door making Tom’s head shoot up. Thankfully, it didn’t look like Harrison was interrupting a class or anything, meaning that Tom had no way to deny him time to talk.
“Can we talk?” he asked, motioning to the toddler in his arms. Tom nodded, pressing a few keys before halting his movements at his computer as he gave his best friend his full attention.
“Go ahead.”
“I was kind of counting on you not to be teaching today,” he stated. “So, I brought a girl over and now-”
Tom interrupted. “Now you don’t want to watch Scarlett.”
Harrison felt bad. It’s not like it was her fault, Tom was simply just a workaholic who never knew when to stop and that oftentimes meant he had to get his friends or his family to babysit. There were many times where Harrison had wanted to physically hit some sense into Tom so he’d spend more time with his daughter.
Ever since he began working at home it’s gotten even worse for the poor girl. She can see Tom, but she can’t see Tom and sometimes all the girl wants is a cuddle from her dad. There’s been a lot more temper tantrums due to her not being able to get any love from her dad when she wants it.
“Look I’m sorry, but I’ve been watching her everyday this week,” he complained. Scarlett didn’t know where to look, watching them both as they conversed.
Tom didn’t know what to do. He knew he’d only get distracted if he let her stay with him, but he didn’t want to put any more responsibility on Harrison, cause it wasn’t like Lettie was his kid.
Safe to say he was torn.
“Y/N should be here soon, can’t you just watch her until then?” he begged. Tom knew it probably wasn’t Harrison that was the problem, it was his lady friend. His best friend would look after the tiny angel in a heartbeat. She clearly came over to get some private time with the man and he could tell she wasn’t exactly thrilled when she learned she’d have to babysit for a few hours.
“Fine, fine, but don’t expect us to be playing dolls with her or anything.”
Tom grinned widely, placing a sloppy kiss on his daughter’s cheek, playfully hitting Harrison’s arm. The girl giggled, tucking her head in her uncle's neck.
“You’re a lifesaver man,” he said. “I have a class soon but if i’m done early then I’ll take her off your hands.”
The younger male nodded, looking at the child in his arms with a small smile, the same as the one Tom had while watching his little creation simply exist; he was utterly in love with her.
“Are you ready to go and spend time with your uncle Haz, Lettie?”
She cheered, nodding her head rapidly. Tom looked at his best friend with a ‘see’ kind of look and the blonde simply rolled his eyes.
“Let’s go.”
»»——⍟——««
“Okay so, you just need to write that out. I’ll give you around twenty minutes and then we’ll move on. Is that okay?” He received a few nods from some of his different students, flashing them a smile as he checked the clock so he knew when to tell them to stop typing.
“Do any of you mind if I just nip out to grab a drink?” He once again received a few nods from more or less the same people as last time. He smiled, excusing himself and heading out of his bedroom to the kitchen.
On his way he walked past the living room, scoffing at the sight in front of him. Scarlett was falling asleep on the chair while the tv played some disney film she’d seen a hundred times, one that Tom knew she didn’t really like all too much.
But there on the couch was Harrison and the girl engaged in what looked like an intense liplock. Tom had a right to be angry, but he didn’t know if now was the time to say anything. The blonde was more or less already annoyed with his friend and he didn’t need to give him any more reason why he should be.
He cleared his throat, announcing his presence to the three in the room. His bub just looked up at him through her long lashes, rubbing her eyes tiredly. While Harrison and the mystery girl just stared at him.
“Really? While Scarlett’s in the room too.” Harrison didn’t try and defend himself, but the look on the girl sitting next to him’s face, told him everything he needed to know. The sleepy girl in the armchair didn’t even know what was going on, having just seen the angry look on her dad’s face and the sheepish one on her uncles.
“Come on, angel.” He carefully picked her up, her head tucking into his neck while he held her on his hip. She shifted in his arms, whining tiredly at all the sudden movement.
“Daddy.” Tom kissed her cheek, his feet taking him to the kitchen to get what he originally came for. He opened the fridge with his free hand, grabbing a water bottle for himself and placing it on the counter, before grabbing the juice he’d put in there earlier for Scarlett.
“Bub?” he asked. She slowly lifted her head, looking up at her dad with her large brown eyes, the same ones that resembled his. “Can you hold your juice for me?”
She held the sippy cup in both of her tiny hands, letting her dad carry her back to his room. He sighed when he closed the door, realising he’d have to have her with him during the rest of his class. He sat back down and it turned a few heads, the teens furrowing their eyebrows at the sudden sight of a young child in their professor’s camera view.
He placed the water bottle and juice on his desk, adjusting Scarlett on his knee so she was more comfortable.
“Is it okay if my daughter sits in for a bit everyone?” There was a chorus of agreement, some students cooing over the little girl sitting on their professors knee. Scarlett grew shy, tucking her head into her dad’s chest so they all couldn’t see her blushing face.
Tom smiled, hand coming up to hold her head to his chest. He mindlessly played with her curls while he explained how to get started or gave a bit of influence on what to put to some of them that were struggling.
Scarlett was beginning to get fidgety, her hands clutching at her dad’s shirt. Tom knew these were all signs of when she got sleepy, wanting to take a nap.
“You tired bub?” She nodded her head, tiredly rubbing her eyes with her fists. Tom kissed her head, grabbing a loose hairband from off his desk to tie her curls back.
Some of the girls in the class swooned when Tom started to brush the girls hair back with his fingers, tying it into a loose ponytail at the back of her head.
“Take a nap, s’okay.” She nodded, asking her dad to grab her teddy bear for her, the one she always seemed unable to fall asleep without. It was sitting on the end of Tom’s bed, the man easily reaching over the desk to grab it for her.
She happily clutched it to her chest, snuggling further into her dad’s warm chest. He placed a quick kiss on her hair as he watched her eyes flutter shut, a small smile lingering on his lips.
“Ten more minutes everyone.” His hand was still resting against Scarlett’s head, his thumb rubbing the area of her temple gently. People had begun finishing, starting to ask Tom the most random questions about Lettie and more specifically why they’d never met her before. “She’ll have to join us more often then.” He placed a quick kiss on her head before announcing he was going to end the lesson early, let his students go do whatever they wanted for the rest of their afternoon.
“Have fun, goodbye all.” With a wave and a few clicks of his mouse, the call had ended. Tom sighed, watching as people began handing in the essays they’d just been working on, the ones that Tom needed to grade and give improvements on before Friday, today was only Tuesday.
Tom’s phone suddenly pinged with a text notification, making him startle for a second, the man reaching over to grab it to see your contact name lighting up his screen.
Chinese for dinner? Can pick it up later on my way back x
Yes please, you’re a delight love x
He smiled as he set his phone back down, planning on finishing marking the rest of his class’ work before he finished for the day. Now you and Tom didn’t actually live together, yet, but you often stayed over to help with anything, including the toddler you adored.
Scarlett was still pleasantly sleeping in her dad’s lap, for how much longer he didn’t know, but her breathing was steady and even, as she dreamed about whatever three year old’s dreamt about.
She eventually shifted a little while later, letting out an adorable tired sound from the back of her throat as she stretched with a sleepy yawn.
“Hi dove, did you sleep okay?” He brushed some stray hair out of her face, letting her take a minute to wake herself up. She eventually nodded her head, letting out a little sassy huff as she looked up at her dad.
“I don’t like uncle Haz’s friend,” she complained, jutting out her bottom lip into the cutest little sad face. He had to refrain from giggling at her, hiding his smile by faking a pout, but his eyes held so much amusement. “Why not?”
“I wanted to watch Tangled a-and she made us watch chicken little,” she ranted.
She was clearly getting worked up over this, more than she needed to anyway, tears welling up in her eyes at the thought of the movie that had given her nightmares before. Tom fully knew how much she hated that film, he was the one who’d had to hold her when she cried, and he was slightly frustrated that Harrison hadn’t said anything against watching it.
He sighed, wrapping his arms around her small frame, giving her a big squeeze. “I’m sorry, bub, she does sound like a meanie.”
That made her giggle, making Tom’s heart flutter.
He glanced between the ungraded work on his computer screen and the small girl in his arms, deciding that making her happy was more important than marking someone’s work early, he had days before it had to be done anyway.
Scarlett clung to him like a koala when Tom abruptly stood up from his desk chair, “Where are we going?” She asked.
“You’re going to sit here,” He said, emphasising his words by placing her down on his bed. “While daddy gets changed, and then we can watch Tangled together.”
She squealed excitedly, finding it hard to sit still as Tom grabbed some clothes and headed to his bathroom to change.
A few minutes later he was done, heading back into his room to find his angel bouncing in anticipation as she very incorrectly sang the words to her favourite Tangled song.
“Woah, is that Rapunzel singing?” he teased, poking one of her chubby cheeks as she giggled.
Tom set the movie up with a very impatient three year old beside him, constantly rushing him telling him to hurry up.
He seated himself against the pillows after he’d pressed play and let her get comfortable against his chest, making sure she had her Pascal teddy in her arms ready to watch; something she had to do every single time they watched the movie.
Scarlett had sang to every single song that had played so far, even coaxing Tom into singing a few with her when she decided he must be flynn.
Near her favourite scene, which was obviously the boat scene, Tom’s bedroom door was opened and Harry waltzed in with a greeting.
He stood there for a few minutes just watching the movie with them, the same movie he’d seen a countless amount of times and he probably wouldn’t admit it but he did actually love it.
He found it a little strange that they were watching it in Tom’s room, when normally they’d have it at a high volume in the living room for everyone to hear, even the neighbours.
“Why are you in here?” he asked, pointing to the smaller tv than what was in the living room. Tom sighed, trying to whisper so he wouldn’t bother the angel watching the film, because there’s no doubt she would have some kind of sassy remark to shut him up.
“Harrison was with a girl, she terrorised the munchkin with chicken little.”
Harry found that sentence quite amusing, and to be fair to him the girl was scared of a cartoon chicken, letting out a loud laugh that had Scarlett aggressively shushing him. He apologised sheepishly, biting his lip to contain his smile at the bossy child.
“Well if my favourite girl isn’t going to love me, I guess I’ll go then,” he pouted, making grabby hands at her to try and get a hug.
She looked between the film and her uncle Harry like it was the hardest decision in the world, solved by Tom simply pressing pause.
“Thank you, daddy.”
She ran across the bed until she was standing in front of Harry, throwing herself into his arms so he had to catch her. He chuckled, holding her tightly and pressing a kiss to her cheek.
“How are you, munchkin?”
She buried her head in his neck. “ ‘m good.”
With a teasing growl Harry pried the girl off of him and dropped her on the bed, listening to the way she giggled loudly, her cheeks hurting from how wide she was grinning at her uncle. Harry would of course argue her favourite uncle, but Sam, Paddy, Tuwaine and Harrison would all have something to say to that.
“Will you watch Rapunzel with us?” she asked. Harry could never say no to those big doe eyes, nodding his head with a small sigh.
“Only if I get to sing Flynn’s parts,” he bargained. Tom scoffed, turning his head towards his younger brother with evil eyes.
“Deal,” Scarlett whispered.
“But I thought I was Flynn?” Tom pouted, pulling his bub into his lap with puppy dog eyes to try and guilt trip her. She rolled her eyes, catching Tom slightly off guard for a second. She giggled at him, poking his cheek like he always did to her.
“He’s not really daddy, don’t be selfish.” Harry snorted, covering it up with a cough when Tom sent a glare in his direction.
“Yeah, don’t be selfish Tom.”
»»——⍟——««
“I’m here and I have food,” you announced, carrying the bag in your left hand while you carried your phone and keys in the other. Harrison was the first one in the kitchen. You thought he was taking the bag from you so you didn’t have to struggle carrying it, but it turns out it was only to start rummaging through the food.
He laid out the different containers on the counter, grabbing his and popping them open like he was a starving man.
“Hello to you too.” He flashed you a smile, eating something from inside one of the boxes before he pressed a friendly kiss to your cheek as his greeting. He scattered away back to his room almost as quickly as he came out of it, taking his food with him with a quick thank you.
A grin grew on your lips as you watched your boyfriend enter the kitchen, unlike Harrison, heading straight to greet you, his lips puckered already.
“Missed you.” He pecked your lips softly, your lips lingering for a little bit longer than they normally would and that pretty much told him all he needed to know.
He pulled back from the kiss, lifting his hand to rest on your cheek, slowly stroking just under your eye where he could clearly see how tired you looked. They fluttered shut with a sigh, allowing yourself to embrace the feeling of Tom’s gentle touch. “You okay?”
You hummed unconvincingly, a frown growing on Tom’s face. His hand slipped into your hair, gently pushing your head forward until your cheek was resting against the soft material of his turtleneck.
“D’you want to talk about it?” He asked, swaying the both of you as you embraced each other. He felt you shake your head, tightening your hold around his torso. The two of you paid no mind to the food for a few minutes as you hugged, deciding that it wasn’t going anywhere.
Only did you pull away when you heard two lots of footsteps heading in your direction. Light ones that were much quicker in their steps, obviously Scarletts, and then heavier ones that were much calmer and slower, probably Harrys. Tom was reluctant to let go of you, kissing your forehead when you were no longer in his arms.
He busied himself with getting everyone’s food dished out onto the correct plates, taking much more time with Scarlett’s than he did anyone else's.
He had to make sure it was on her designated kiddie plate that she always used. The one that was divided into different sections for her different bits of food.
“D’you want some help?” You asked, noting the way Tom was more or less doing everything himself. He shook his head, motioning to the doorway with a grin. You followed his gaze and locked eyes with the three year old who looked completely ecstatic to see you.
“Y/N!” she squealed, wrapping her arms around your legs. You grinned, bending down to her height to wrap your arms around her tiny frame. Her presence was enough to lift your mood, a smile growing on your face as she hugged you back. Tom watched with heart eyes, absolutely adoring the way his daughter loved you so much and vice versa. You stood up back to your full height and lifted her onto your hip, letting her see over the counter that was now decorated with countless items of food for the household.
“I missed you today, love.”
“Really?” she asked.
“Of course,” you kissed her cheek. “You always brighten my day, bubba.”
She hid her head in your neck with blushing cheeks, making your heart flutter with the utmost amount of love. You kept Tom company for a few minutes, just holding Scarlett close to you while she watched you both talk.
She may be only three but she knew her daddy was truly in love, it was obvious with the way he looked at you, even to her.
“Almost done?” you asked him, noting the way he was just finding drinks in the fridge. He nodded his head, flashing you both a quick smile that told you you could go get yourself comfy.
“Why don’t we go pick a movie, Lettie?” She perked up and rapidly nodded her head and you already knew what was going to come out of her mouth before she said it, but Tom interrupted before she could even form the words.
“No, we’ve already watched Tangled today.” You giggled as her bottom lip jutted out, her sad eyes shifting to glare at her dad who playfully glared right back. She eventually gave in under his stare, not wanting to get herself into accidental actual trouble.
“Fine.”
“What about Frozen?” you asked, knowing it was also in her top five disney films, even though she would claim most of them were her favourite while you were watching them. She was almost just as excited about your suggestion as she seemed to be about her own, mainly because you had no issue joining her in singing the songs, because God knows Tom could be a lot more stubborn when it came to Frozen songs than he was with Tangled; He wasn’t particular a big fan of this one.
“You two go ahead, I’ll be in in just a minute,” he said. You nodded, helping her carry her drink while you carried yours in your other hand. Once they were both safely placed on the side where you wouldn’t spill them, you began making aeroplane sounds to get her laughing again, finally sitting her down on the floor next to the spot you were planning to sit in. Her adorable toddler laugh never failed to make you feel all warm and giddy inside.
Tom came in no more than five minutes later, bringing yours and Lettie’s food out first so you could get started on eating while the intro of the movie played. He had to make another trip to the kitchen in order to get his, coming back with his plate and phone in hand.
He could’ve cried when he saw the way you and Lettie were laughing and singing along to one of the first songs. You were making her giggle uncontrollably with the way you were doing the different voices, and Tom wasn’t sure he’d ever seen you with a bigger smile.
After the day he’d suspected you had, he was sure you would be more and glad that you had such a lovely distraction.
He pulled up his phone and started recording the two of you, wanting to keep this moment forever so he could always look back and rewatch it. The song finally ended and so did his recording, luckily neither of you noticing he’d recorded that. He was certain you’d be embarrassed if you knew.
He cheered for your performance, taking a seat at the other side of Lettie on the floor.
“That was quite a show,” he teased, shooting you a wink too.
With flushed cheeks you took a bite of your food, trying to busy yourself with anything so you didn’t have to look at your very amused boyfriend. “Shut up.”
»»——⍟——««
After spending the evening watching countless Disney films, all used to cheer you up and take your mind off of whatever day you had, Tom noticed that both you and Scarlett were beginning to drift off together on the couch.
You had moved from the floor to the couch quite earlier on in your second movie, Hercules to be exact, as you deemed it much more comfortable than the hardwood you were sitting on.
She was now curled up into your side, her head managing to dig itself deeper and deeper into your chest as Mulan played in the background. She wasn’t paying attention to the film anymore, letting her eyes flutter closed as she planned on taking a much needed nap in your arms.
However, by the looks of it you were also planning on taking a nap, your head resting on top of the small girls with heavy eyes. Tom awed inside, taking a quick picture of the two of you, sneakily changing it to his lockscreen.
“I think we need to get you two to bed, huh?” He heard you hum, watching as his much smaller bub began making grabby hands at her dad. He smiled, easily scooping her up like she weighed as much as a feather. He placed a kiss on your forehead, telling you not to fall asleep while he got settled Lettie in bed.
The girl was more or less completely limp as he carried her from the living room to her room, carefully setting her in her bed. He made sure she had the teddies she always slept with, tucking her in tightly to keep her nice and warm.
“Can you read me a story?” she asked, voice so quiet and soft that there was no way he could say no, he was just hoping you’d be able to hold out and stay awake.
“Course, which one?”
He spent the next ten minutes reading through a story he’d probably read to her hundreds of times, but somehow she managed to love it even more each time. His voice was low to try and keep the sleepy energy in the room, not wanting her to get too excited, although she would giggle every time he switched his accent to do another character's voice.
“Daddy?” she whispered, drawing his attention away from the next chapter of the book. He hummed quietly, leaning down and placing a kiss on her head to let her know he was listening.
“Are you in love with Y/N?”
He felt himself grow nervous, a stressed chuckle slipping past his lips before he could stop it. He wasn’t sure what to say, he’d yet to actually tell you he loves you, even though he knew it right from your first date. Admittedly, part of him was scared that if he got that vulnerable with you that you would;t love him back and it’d break his heart, even though the more sensible part of him knew you would never do that to him. He just couldn’t find the right time or his guts to tell you.
“What do you know about love, hm?”
“I know that Flynn loves Rapunzel, and you look at Y/N like she’s your Rapunzel.” Tom’s heart melted. He always heard from his friends and family how whipped he looked for you all the time, even when he didn’t realise he’d been looking at you with heart eyes. Hearing this from his own daughter told him basically all he needed to know: He loved you, and he was going to tell you.
“Goodnight baby.” He pressed a kiss to Scarlett’s head, avoiding her question and switching off her light. He closed the door, leaving it slightly open like he did every night just in case she needed him for anything. Tom headed back to the living room, watching the way you were half asleep, your eyes trained on whatever random show had begun playing on the tv.
“Hey, you ready for bed?”
You hummed tiredly. “Don’t want to get up,” you whined.
He chuckled, adoring how cute you got when you were sleepy, often rambling about things that didn’t even make sense. He made his way over to you, shifting your position so he could slip his hands under you and pick you up. You squealed quietly when you were more or less hoisted into the air, a breathy laugh coming from Tom.
You were gently laid on his bed in the blink of an eye, granted your tired eyes were blinking very slowly. Tom left you for a moment, going who knows where to do who knows what.
“Need to take my makeup off,” you moaned to no one but yourself. Tom seemed to have already thought of that, actually he’d already thought of everything as it seemed. Not only was he carrying your makeup remover but some of his clothes for you to change into after your decision not to earlier on.
“Come here, pretty girl.”
The first swipe of the cotton wool against your cheek had you flinching, your sleepy body not expecting the jolt of cold on your skin. Tom chuckled, pressing a kiss to your lips as his form of an apology.
You could feel yourself blushing as he handled your face with such care, soft strokes to your right cheek to remove all the makeup, occasionally meeting your eyes with a small admiring glint in them. The simple act felt so intimate to you and it made your heart grow so much fonder for the curly haired brunette.
“All done.”
You smiled, starting to help him in undressing you to change into his much baggier and comfier clothes. Another wave of exhaustion hit you spontaneously, making you want to just crawl in bed and stay there forever, but here you were just making it more difficult for your boyfriend to slip the shirt over your head.
“No, don’t fall asleep on me yet, angel.” He cooed at you quietly, stroking your cheekbone with his thumb until your eyes fluttered open again. He held up the shirt in his hands.
“We’ll just put this on, yeah? We can forget about the joggers.”
You agreed, assisting him by raising your arms. You were rewarded with a few kisses after he managed to slip the plain shirt on your upper half, bringing a happy grin to your lips as he pulled away from the last kiss. You were over the moon to be slipping under the covers of your boyfriend’s bed, burying your head in his pillow while being engulfed by his calming scent.
He watched you with a smile as you got comfortable, practically purring like a kitten as you finally got comfortable. He slipped the tight, dark turtleneck off from over his head, followed by his dress pants that he put on to feel fancier, despite the fact his class wouldn’t be able to see them.
“Hurry up,” you whined, craving the feel of your boyfriend’s warmth against you. He thankfully didn’t make you wait too much longer, slipping in beside you with a content sigh.
The two of you laid in silence for a while, and although Tom didn’t know whether you’d fallen asleep already or not, he spoke up and asked the question on his mind anyway.
“What happened today?”
You groaned, burying your face deeper into Tom’s chest, trying to avoid the topic altogether. He gave you all the time you needed though, stroking his fingers through your hair while you thought about where to start.
“Everything just went wrong, got yelled at by my boss too,” you explained simply. “Couldn’t wait to come home to you and Lettie.”
He frowned, planting a kiss on your head. He mumbled a quiet apology, apologising of course for the fact you had a bad day.
“I hope we were able to cheer you up.”
You tucked your head into his neck, a dreamy smile making the corner of your lips twitch.
“Of course you did, my two favourite people.”
He thought about your last three words over and over again in his head. Now was the time, it was the perfect time.
“Y/N?” He didn’t get a response this time from you, but he also knew if he didn’t speak up now then he’d probably back out again. “I-I love you, so much.”
From the angle he was laying at he was unable to see the expression that had overtaken your face. Tom, always assuming the worst, guessed that you had heard him but he’d just ruined everything and there was no way he could take that back now.
You could feel his rapid heartbeat in his chest underneath your head, your hand coming up to gently rub the skin with your thumb, hoping to soothe him a little. You placed a kiss beside your thumb onto his chest, lifting your head so you could look him in the eye. “Calm down you goof, I love you too.”
»»——⍟——««
Tom didn’t know what time it was when he heard the noise near his ear. Assuming that it was just a noise he buried his face deeper into the back of your neck, tightening his arm around your body. He heard it again, this time he recognised the voice as belonging to his angel bub. She placed her tiny hands on his arm, trying to roll him over on the bed.
“What’s wrong, dove?”
“Nightmare,” she whispered. Tom frowned, rolling onto his back to scoop her up and let her cuddle into his chest. His other arm was still tucked underneath your head, the male hoping that he hasn’t woken you.
He pressed a kiss to the girl’s head, rubbing his hand across the back of her hair to try and soothe her. He could feel her tiny frame shaking from whatever rattled her in her dream and it broke his heart.
“Lettie,” he whispered. She sniffled quietly, looking up at her dad. As selfish as it sounds, Tom was still extremely sleepy so he didn’t really know what was happening right now, which meant he wasn’t exactly able to talk his bub back to sleep like he normally would. He also didn’t want to accidentally wake you up because you were equally as tired, if not more than him.
“I told Y/N I love her.” She gasped, bolting up to look at her dad to see if he was telling the truth. He grinned, nodding his head. Little did they know that you were currently listening to everything the pair was saying, and your heart was already melting at the reaction coming from Scarlett.
You didn’t know why Tom was telling her this, or why Scarlett seemed so excited about it, but you were curious to know where he was going with this.
“What happened, daddy?” she asked, her big doe eyes watching him closely.
“Let’s just say, she’s definitely my Rapunzel.”

So, I couldn't help myself. This is a continuation of my previous Bucky fic Insomnia because I just really enjoyed the dynamic between Bucky and the reader. I had a lot of fun writing this part and I love building things up between the two of them. If you guys like this or are interested in seeing more - please let me know! I love talking with people and hearing their ideas and such.
Much love xo.
Pairing: Reader x Bucky Barnes
Word Count: 2079
Warnings: cursing, struggles with mental illness, mentions of sex (nothing entirely explicit but better safe than sorry), alcohol use, and really poorly written jokes lmao
Fingers threaded into hair.
Hot, opened-mouth kisses marking every surface of your neck.
Nails trailing down his back leaving raised, red lines in their wake.
“Oh my god,” you groaned as you let your head fall back and continued to rock your hips into the man in front of you.
Strong hands tighten their hold on your hips, sure to leave purplish-blue bruises for the morning.
“C’mon, baby,” he grunted, face buried in your neck as he helped your body to grind against his, “I got you. Let go, fuck, let go for me.”
A pair of slender fingers snapped in front of your line of sight, tearing you from your daydream and bringing you harshly back to reality.
“Hmm, what was that?” You blinked a few times before you turned your attention to the redhead who you, apparently, had been having a conversation with.
“Are you serious?” She laughed, “I’ve been talking for the past 10 minutes! I looked over and you had that far off, glossy look in your eyes. Not to mention you’re bleeding.”
A hand found its way to your lower lip and you realized she was right. You had been so lost in wet dreamland that you chewed a layer of skin off of your lip. You hoped she didn’t notice the heat rising in your face as you cleared your throat, grabbing a tissue from the coffee table.
“Sorry,” you muttered, pressing the tissue against your injured lip, “guess I got lost in thought.”
“Is it one of those flashbacks again?” She asked kindly, facial expression softening.
You nodded quickly, knowing fully well that the statement was a lie. Your gaze drifted over the woman’s shoulder to the subject of your previous thoughts. It would be easier to explain the common occurrence of your PTSD than it would be to explain that you were reminiscing on the hot, steamy, passionate sex you had the night before.
Bucky was situated across the room, leaning against the counter as he talked to Rogers and Wilson. The unfortunately tight, black, short-sleeve t-shirt he was wearing left nothing to the imagination. It accentuated every muscle of the body you had gotten to know so intimately not more than 10 hours ago. His muscular arms were crossed at his chest and he was sporting his signature scowl. Everything about the sight sent a shiver down your spine. You finally had a taste and you wanted more.
“Do you want to talk about it?” Your friend’s voice gained your attention once more.
A small smile found its way to your lips as you met her gaze again. Apart from Bucky, Nat had always been a good trauma buddy of yours. From the beginning she had been someone you felt like you could confide in and someone who would understand your troubles. Sometimes you wondered if a requirement of joining the avengers was to have a fucked up, tragic backstory.
“I’m okay, Nat.” You reassured, “Just got lost in my head again.”
“Whatever you say. Maybe the party tonight will help you get your mind off of things,” She mused as she pushed herself from the couch to stand up. She paused briefly before she turned to you again, “you are coming, right?”
“Yeah,” you snorted, “Tony actually threatened me if I didn’t go this time, so, I guess I have to.”
After the last party you skipped out on, Tony cornered you in the hallway and gave you quite the interrogation. Then he went on a spiel about how staying in your room all day and all night was bad for you and that if he didn’t know better he would think you weren’t appreciative of what he’d done for you and blah, blah, blah. Tony really was a good person underneath all that hair gel. All he wanted was to help you break out of your shell and give you the family he knew you were lacking. That didn’t mean he couldn’t be a pushy asshole.
“Good, I’ll see you there. I’m sure Barnes will too.” A devilish grin painted her lips as she watched your jaw drop. Before you had a chance to say anything she was off down the hallway.
Fuckin’ Natasha.
*******
A pile of clothes littered your bed as you slipped another dress over your form. Not once in your life had you ever been concerned about what you were wearing or what you looked like, but there was something about tonight that made you want to turn heads. Your eyes raked down your figure as you twisted from side to side, admiring the way the black dress hugged your body in all the right places. Not to mention the thigh high slit in the dress showed off probably the only body part you weren’t self-conscious about. Tony, being the theatrical and over the top man he was, once said that you shouldn’t show up to his parties if you weren’t dressed to court a royal or to bring a man to his knees. Guess you were shooting for the latter.
As you put the finishing touches on your look for the evening, you felt that familiar heavy feeling settling into your chest. Your body always had a tendency to go into fight or flight mode when you became too familiar with anything or anyone. It felt like every fiber in your body was screaming for you to retreat into sweats and stay in your room, to not allow yourself this opportunity to enjoy the people you’d grown so close to. You know what happens when you let people in.
Grief, trauma, coping - it made it really difficult to live a “normal” life. Everyday tasks are daunting, it can be next to impossible to have intimate friendships or relationships, and not to mention the intrusive thoughts that infect your mind on a daily, if not hourly, basis. Here you were, the happiest you’d been in years. You were finally in a place where you felt loved, comfortable, safe - and yet your mind was trying to self-sabotage again.
You took a moment to close your eyes and take several deep breaths. When you opened your eyes you locked eyes with your reflection in the mirror and made a pact with the girl staring back at you. The intrusive thoughts and self-doubt couldn’t continue to have a hold over you anymore. You gave yourself a small smirk and nod as you made the decision to throw caution to the wind and give the party a try. What’s the worst that could happen?
*******
Come to find out, the worst that could happen would be your competitive nature overcoming the rational, thinking part of your brain; which in turn would lead you to enter in a drinking contest. Thankfully a small portion of your pink, smooth brain was still functional enough to tell you when you’d reached your limit. Now you sat comfortably on the couch, legs tucked underneath you as you joyfully watched your friends argue.
“Dr. Banner, my friend, you are one of the most intelligent people I know. However, you are wrong.” Thor stated simply as he finished the rest of his drink.
“Thor, for the last time, water is not wet!” Bruce retorted, throwing his hands up in frustration.
You let out a loud snort before thinking, “Oh yeah, water. I should drink some water.”
Your feet planted themselves on the floor and slipped back into your pair of shoes. As you made your way to the kitchen you were pleasantly surprised by your balance and coordination, considering how much alcohol you’d consumed. Seems that drinking with Thor has done wonders for your tolerance.
While you were busy searching the refrigerator for a bottle of water, you were also oblivious to the soft sound of footsteps coming into the kitchen. After retrieving the beverage, you closed the door and turned to leave. Instead, you turned right into the chest of a figure that was definitely not there a moment ago. You yelped as you clutched a hand over your chest dramatically, your face filled with horror as though you’d just come face to face with the grim reaper.
“Jesus Christ, Barnes!” you scolded.
Bucky was holding his abdomen as he leaned back, consumed with laughter at your reaction. You huffed and wanted to be offended, but he looked so damn cute laughing that you couldn’t help but join him. You pushed his chest playfully and grumped as you hopped up to sit on the counter, opening the water to gulp about half of it down. Bucky couldn’t help but grin at your pouty state as he finished up his laughing fit.
“My apologies, sweets. Didn’t realize I’d be makin’ ya scream twice in one day.” He teased, grinning even wider as he did so.
Your jaw dropped at the comment, quickly looking around to make sure no one else was in the kitchen to hear what he had said. After seeing that the coast was clear you kicked your foot at him out of annoyance, only for his metal hand to catch it smoothly. The two of you locked eyes, motionless for a moment before he moved closer, sliding his hand from your ankle to your thigh. In the moment, you damned yourself for choosing this particular dress. The closer he got, the faster your breathing became. The contrast between his cold embrace and your flushed, warm skin sent a shiver down your spine. Abandoning the water bottle, you ran your hands up his abdomen and chest until they rested on his shoulders. Following a small nudge from his knee, you parted your legs to allow him space to stand between them. The heat in your face at an all time high as he pressed his flesh hand to your cheek.
“Haven’t been able to stop thinkin’ about you.” Bucky whispered as he stroked the apple of your cheek with his thumb. Each word that left his lips had you feeling way more intoxicated than any liquor you’d had all night.
As quickly as it started, his touch was gone and his back was turned as he opened the fridge. Before you had a chance to open your mouth to ask what the hell just happened, Tony was entering into the kitchen.
“Well, well, well. Surprised to see you here, Annie.” Tony beamed as he laid eyes on you.
Yes, Tony had nicknamed you after little orphan Annie. Yes, he also referred to himself lovingly as Daddy Warbucks. Yes, any person in their right mind would probably be offended, but you were just fucked up enough that you found it kind of hilarious.
“Wish I could say that it’s a pleasure, Tony.” You grumped back, upset that you’d been cockblocked and by Tony no less.
“Never lose that spunk, kid.” Tony winked as he turned to see Bucky retreating from the fridge with a beer in hand. “Inspector Gadget! Good to see you too.”
As much as you didn’t want to encourage him, you couldn’t help but laugh. Much to your dismay, Bucky simply raised his bottle to Tony as if to say “cheers” and padded out of the kitchen.
“He has such a way with words.” Tony teased as you rolled your eyes.
A sigh left your lips as you slipped off the counter and back onto the floor, muttering a “goodnight” before leaving the kitchen and heading back to your room. Although you wanted nothing more than to find Bucky and finish what he had started in the kitchen, you came to the conclusion that you were probably too drunk and definitely too tired.
Back in the comfort of your bedroom, you went about your normal nighttime routine. As you exited the bathroom, you couldn’t help but notice a piece of paper that had been slipped beneath your door. Grabbing the paper from the floor and plopping back onto your soft mattress, you opened it to read the note that was scribbled in black ink.
Never got the chance to tell you how gorgeous you looked tonight. Gotta say, I’m a big fan of that dress.
Sweet dreams.
- B.
When you finished the note, it felt as though you were floating on cloud 9. Even when you laid your head down and tried to welcome sleep, Bucky’s words were still replaying in your head over and over again - like they were lyrics to your new favorite song.
Turns out you were down for Bucky Barnes, and you were down bad.

yoongi grills stem koo’s ass <3
Tumblr media
cold senior!y/n x stem major!koo masterlist :D
stem koo wants to explain himself and yoongi may not want to listen
"hyeji's never packed you a sandwich before?"
jungkook pales at the mention, mouth drying when he sees yoongi bring up the soft smile that doesn't comfort him at all
“the one that’s all knuckle?”
oh my god
IS THIS A RIDDLE????
yoongi tilts his head in amusement when this pathetic excuse for your past crush is calculating what he just said in his mind
what is a sandwich that’s all knuckle?? but it doesn’t even rhyme!!
aren’t riddles sUPPOSED to rhyme????
jungkook’s more than well-versed in stem-related problems that are just rephrased 237 times over and over so that it wouldn’t be as easy to solve
he can solve that!!!
but this!!! :O his mind is short-circuiting pls do not approach him
“hm?” yoongi’s smile patronizes him further and puts him on the spot, straightening his figure and jungkook’s quick to stop him from coming back inside your dorm
“i want to-“
“i asked you — have you ever had a knuckle sandwich?”
yoongi enunciates with so much clarity that kook finds his mind blanking, tripping over his words he hasn’t even formed yet
“i-is it-...” he stalls, trying to rack his mind for the bread he’s not sure he’s ever even heard of in his life, “i-is it like, a pork thing? uhm, t-the pig’s knuckle? and then you put it between, uhm, bread?”
,,,, laughable
jungkook’s supposed to be smart, isn’t he? or atleast that’s what yoongi thinks he’s supposed to be
lmao he would’ve laughed at the boy’s poor attempts if only he wasn’t furious at him
he’s dumb but not the endearing kind ://
“no,” yoongi drawls out, pretending to fish something out from his pocket
jungkook watches in intrigue, thinking that yoongi’s reaching for his phone to show him a picture of what it looks like
the hypothetical situation in jungkook’s mind is clearly not the one that happens
jungkook SHRIEKS as he stumbles on his heels backward — crystal clear to him that yoongi was not looking for his phone, but instead balling his fist and him being the receiving end
almost the receiving end
yoongi almost sucker-punches jungkook in a blink, fist literally a millimeter away from his nose and the only thing he could see at the moment is red
... red and jungkook’s wide eyes that have never carried this much fear up until now
“that’s a knuckle sandwich, kid. would’ve fed it to you if only y/n isn’t in the room right behind me.”
holy fuck
his heart is beating right against his ribcage and that shouldn’t be possible, fists closing upon themselves nervously as he tries to soothe his thumb so his mind relaxes
spoiler alert: it doesn’t work
jungkook’s mind is all over the place, even more rattled than it was when he takes a text without studying (he was so low he got a 98), but the only thing that’s clear is that you’re behind this door
“yoongi — mister yoongi, please. i-i need to explain myself, and if only you let me try, i can!! i swear. i’m not forcing you but-...”
there he is again
jungkook’s only been in his sight for like two minutes but his eyes are already sore
“why are you even here?” he scowls and even if the younger boy’s taller than him, every bit of his posture and demeanor at the bite of his words scream small, “why go all this length for someone you stomped on today, then have the gall to be a crybaby about it?”
he's speechless and it only serves him right, looking at his mudded-up converse and trying to focus on anything besides the guilt within
"m-my explanation," jungkook mutters, hands behind his back as if he's being scolded, “will you tell y/n?”
yoongi releases an agitated breath at him muttering your name
he dOESN'T get to say your name!! no!!! not after what he did to you
“i’m not concerned about you. what i decide to do or not, has nothing to do with whatever you say right now.”
kook solemnly nods, and even if yoongi's much harsher in your words compared to yours, the gravity of yours with him not being related to you cuts deeper
there's nothing else he could care about, actually
jungkook follows campus curfews to a T and would come home two hours earlier in the rare event that he goes somewhere
but now, he couldn't care less when the dorm master could just be there any second and he'd pass a hall monitor like usual
for the whole day, you were the only one that occupied his mind
"i know hyeji isn’t the one."
god, it was clear as day
he'll be the first one to admit that he can't read people very well, but he knew from the start that it's probably not hyeji who's been packing his lunchboxes
jungkook sometimes takes attendance in behalf of the professor because as much as he's shy, he's also a teacher's pet
the classes she shared with hyeji? she wasn't present everyday for the whole duration of two weeks, and how could it be that she still managed to make him a lunchbox if she wasn't present in the campus at all?
there was a probability that it could've been her, but it was so low that it sat right next to improbable
"i-i entertained the possibility briefly that she was, but then nothing was making sense the more i thought about it."
jungkook sometimes also checks papers because his professors trust him enough and he has perfect scores anyway, so he uses his own as his answer key
"i needed to interview y/n for an assignment, a-and a signature above a name was needed and it was just so familiar."
the moment he racks his head for hyeji's writing, it seemed fAR from the writing on the sticky notes on the lunchboxes
"then she seemed mad at me, but when i went to her on the field to try and confront her-" jungkook pauses and almost whispers the next part, the shame on his skin starting to seep into his bones, "she told me that we weren't related for me to feel hurt about it."
yoongi clenches his jaw, a pressure forming on the center of his eyebrows because he knows where this is leading
"a-and i thought it was hyeji again."
jungkook can't bring himself to be elated that it's been you the whole time because he might be a little too late; a little too late when he's already subjected you to the heartbreak you didn't deserve
"i-i didn’t know what clicked in my mind but i was just so hurt that-"
that's the fiNAL straw for yoongi
this has been him trying to keep his anger at bay the whole time, but this one!! this one he can't just accept
"you are a fucking asshole. honestly."
jungkook slightly winces with the sudden cussing, but it barely scratches the surface
"you think you’re the only one hurt? tell that to me who’s never seen y/n cry so hard before — or even cry at all."
his explanation wasn't an excuse and he knows it, but nonetheless, it tears him apart
"i’m sorry."
his lips quiver and he's trying sO hard not to cry in front of his senior, but yoongi doesn't feel even the slightest remorse for the kid
"i don’t care. you don’t apologize to me; you apologize to y/n. whether she forgives you or not, which for the record i don’t think she should, you cannot take back what you said."
if what jungkook said was eVER said to yoongi, given that he had the same circumstances as you did, he wouldn't know how to bounce back at all
it's a pain he doesn't wish to feel and he could only helplessly look at you who's trying to navigate it
perhaps you don't even plan to navigate it — knowing you, you're just gonna sail through it all to the point you're not giving yourself enough time to even realize that you already are
it was the same cycle of trying to move on without grieving through it properly that it hurts yoongi and seokjin and the tiny amount of people around you
"grovel at her feet. cry her an ocean. commit penitence. whatever you wanna come up with, no matter what, you do not make my y/n feel like she isn’t deserving of love."
you're family and yoongi goes above and beyond for family.
"i don’t care if you make up. i don’t care if you don’t. all i know is that in any other place besides outside the room she sleeps in, i’d hurt you like you hurt her."
jungkook almost wishes that yoongi punches him now and he won't even try to dodge it
"i deserve it."
"you do."
they whole-heartedly agree and it's the only time that yoongi can get behind jungkook's words
"i’m always gonna be on y/n’s side, kid."
there's no other way around it and as much as you know it or not, you've cemented your position in yoongi's heart unknowingly
"the only way that i’m gonna be on yours is when you’ve earned my utmost respect," he can't even see when that happens, crossing his arms across his chest, "and you don’t."
jungkook's tears are falling to the floor but they don't get on his cheeks, the sudden set of footsteps coming from his side making his head straighten and wipe his eyes immediately
he's the only one alarmed and he spares yoongi a glance, then to said person
yeah right that couldn't have been you :((
the guy who's approaching doesn't stop walking and he looks like.... he's uh,,, coming to where he's exactly standing????
he seems oddly familiar though
“oh, taehyung!"
where did he hear that name before??
taehyung stands at the same height as jungkook, maybe a centimeter or two taller, but he just couldn't stop looking at him from the corner of his eyes
yoongi's oblivious to jungkook's ongoing deduction, immediately engulfing taehyung in conversation
"y/n’s already asleep. i could do her part of the project-“
he offers because he recalls that right, you told him that taehyung's coming over to finish your shared project of a business plan late tonight
uhhhhh you're kinda zooted and going through it rOUGH so yoongi doesn't mind doing your contribution for you
“yoongi!! oh no man, it’s not what i came here for," he leans for a side hug, eyes landing on jungkook to drop a polite smile to acknowledge him
jungkook only slightly bows, confused but even more intrigued because he heard your name in the conversation
"i just uh, i just saw y/n crying while i was on my way home awhile ago, and i didn’t get to ask why, but i felt bad, so i came by to drop some cookies.”
oh
taehyung continues talking and it leaves yoongi and jungkook stunned, but he only focuses his attention on the former
“you looked like a hazelnut cookie kind of guy, so i baked some too!! is y/n allergic to peanuts? i put some too in a separate container in case she is.”
yoongi laughs and they go from there
IT'S LIKE JUNGKOOK ISN'T EVEN HERE!!!!
baby he's here he's nOT a hallucination!!!!
despite the fact that he's sticking out like and (unacknowledged) sore thumb, no one makes a move to take the conversation elsewhere
“thanks, tae. damn, you did all this yourself?”
yoongi whistles when he takes the tupperware opening it and almost watering at the sight
he doesn't mind baking cookies for you in case you wake up hungry, but taehyung really just did himself a nice favor without knowing it
he smiles softly, eyes narrowing in intrigue now that he realizes
"taehyung. no offense, but you’ve only interacted with y/n like once and it’s only for a project. why would you bake her uhhh 28 cookies?”
hehe
“35, actually :D”
tae interjects, waving him off when yoongi's jaw drops even further
“yeah, i know. i just felt so sorry for her — i’m not related to y/n but i just felt like i wanted to make her feel better.”
jungkook's jaw locks at this, his breathing becoming shaky all over again, fists balled this time
“it’s like,, economics!! i don’t actually know, maybe??? i’m in visual arts. y/n took over my part for me when i was sick-“
".... so you made her 30 cookies."
taehyung's the personification of a golden retriever and now that he thinks about it, jungkook reckons seeing him more than a handful of times
he laughs deeply at yoongi's rebutt and it may be in unfortunate timing that jungkook realizes he kNOWS him
he's in the same year!! he's the one that takes the portraits for the school paper and it's always his name in the credits
"good night, yoongs. hug y/n for me. tell her i'll take over her part, no questions asked."
taehyung walks away and he's perfectly content even if he didn't get to give you the cookies like jungkook thought he would
"night, taehyung."
yoongi looks at the retreating figure briefly, then looks at jungkook pointedly
he doesn't realize that he's still budging and listened on an entire conversation, dropping his head when yoongi points to the elevator
"bye, jungkook."
"good night, yoongi."
he feels hesitant to leave but it's probably for the better, putting his hands in his pockets still not enough to make his hands stop trembling
kook stops at the middle of his walking, turning his head to look back at yoongi whose mouth already has crumbs
"c-can i see y/n tomorrow?"
"i'm not her dad."
jungkook nods somberly, leaving it at that while his bulk of emotions consume him
he thinks all about the ways he could attempt to make it up to you, a million ideas in his head but his head doesn't hurt
his nose twitches at the lingering scent the cookies left, annoyed at the persistent smell and perhaps the boy that brought them
jungkook's never really liked cookies.

Wakanda was always calm when Steve went, the people who lived there just seemed to understand the ways of life. There was never a catcall or fight in an alley, people greeted each other with kindness and a soft bow, Steve always copied but felt like he was too stiff when he did so. He found he walked with his back a little straighter and his chin a little higher, he felt unstoppable in the warm climate, filled with power and generosity.
Natasha on the other hand hated Wakanda, not because of the people but for the same reason as Steve; it was too peaceful. She’d always get the dirtiest looks when trying to explain her case, no one seemed to understand the concept of ‘too much comfort is uncomfortable’. She ran to Bucky once after a moment and asked him why he liked it so much, she thought he off all people would hate comfort, he’d always be one to sleep on the floor because the mattress would feel like it was swallowing him. He just shook his head and shrugged, he’d never tell anyone why; Nat found out he never even told you.
Natasha had been trained to trust no one other than yourself, but after escaping the Red Room she questioned the one in the mirror all too often. People would smile and while Steve smiled and waved Natasha thought of ulterior motives, why were they smiling to them and not the people slightly behind them? but then they’d smile to the people behind Natasha and she’d question if it was to cover themselves. The welcoming's to almost everywhere felt weird, she wanted to break in or have to fake her way to what she wanted, having doors opened for her felt like a slap in the face for all the things she’s done for those years before.
“God, gives me the creeps,” Natasha faked a shiver, Steve just rolled his eyes. They were walking in the palace now, T’Challa would be waiting for them in Shuri’s tech room.
Apparently Shuri had been wanting to try a new type of cuff, one made of- obviously -vibranium that tightens at a lie. There were little needles that poke into the culprit's nervous system, it picks up on someone’s sign that they are lying and tightens when the little pins are triggered. If someone's breath picked up or heart rate doubled, it would squeeze a little bit more until their hands were blue. Nat thought it was amazing when she heard it over the phone, her mind was picturing it the entire flight over.
Steve had been thinking about Bucky, Steve was well aware of Bucky’s deep connection to you. You’d been dating for over a year and it was love at first sight (then Bucky quietly loving you from the other side of the room), Bucky was never one to fall for someone, he’d never have the confidence in himself that he’d be here for too long. But it was the little things Bucky began to do that made Steve appreciate you even more. He’d watch from his spot on the kitchen counter, quietly sipping coffee and reading the paper, which wasn’t actually paper because it was on his phone, while glancing over every so often to see you and Bucky in your own little world, both giggling at something. There's this moment for Bucky when he’d just look at you, Steve had seen it happen so often, like Bucky was taking a step back and realizing he had someone who loved him unconditionally. The laugh would die down and Bucky would whisper something, it would alway be along the lines of ‘thank you’ but it could change. He’d sometimes do it with Steve as well, both you and Steve would say the same thing, ‘no need to thank me, but you’re welcome’ because that’s what Bucky liked best.
You were just an agent when you arrived, nothing more. Slowly you had gotten to know who everyone was by going out of your way to give out cookies to everyone who walked by you, it was a little thing Bucky seemed to really enjoy. After your talents were discovered from past jobs you were moved to a spy, you’d used to work for a private firm where they’d track down people who launder money, you’d have to get so much evidence it often led you to get jobs at mattress stores or random shops. With that and a lifeguard certification- that you got when you were a teen- under your belt you were perfect to be an agent, Fury introduced you to Bucky for combat training because Bucky needed to learn how to work with others; Steve actually told Fury to give Bucky the assignment.
You’d spar everyday and the both of you would get into it. There would be times where you wouldn’t talk to each other for the rest of the day because the other cheated. Everyone would laugh but you’d take it very seriously, Bucky would always say you weren’t strong enough to go out into the field, so you lifted weights. He’d say you weren’t fast enough, then he’d see you sprinting on the treadmill a day later.
Steve knew you were good for Bucky when you were about to start dating, it was at that part where you were going on dates but you weren’t dating. With all the things Bucky had criticized you on, you flipped it on him with one simple task: keep your fiddle-leaf fig plant alive. It would’ve taken Bucky one google search to find out that 61% of people can’t keep this house plant alive, it’s the hardest one to take care of. It was a metaphor of sorts, for you and for your relationship.
It wasn’t a surprise to find it dead when you got home, Steve came to you with his shoulders slumped. Apparently Bucky had been crying for three days straight because he killed your plant and he thought you’d dump him because of it. It was the weird feelings when Steve saw you start to laugh, this was his best friend who was crying of guilt and you were laughing, he’d wanted to punch you square in the jaw.
“What’s so funny?” he asked way too harshly.
“Oh nothing…” you wiped the tear that had fallen.
“Baby, I’m so sorry!” Bucky had left his room and came running to you, his face was red and his eyes were barely open from how puffy they were. He quickly pulled you in for a hug, “I messed up your plant, I’m sorry.”
Steve was getting redder and redder the more you laughed, “what’s so fucking funny, huh?” Steve boomed, he was getting protective.
You had dropped the act then, both of them were very emotional at the moment and laughing wouldn’t be the best choice of action. “Don’t worry, Bucky,” you soothed him, “you weren’t supposed to keep alive.”
“What?” he pulled away and sniffled, “but you asked me to-”
“To try,” you paused with emphasis, “and keep one of the hardest plants to keep alive, alive.” you smiled, “I was proud that I had kept it alive for as long as I did, but I needed to see what you would do with something like this.”
“Why?” Steve asked for Bucky, still very protective.
“Did you buy a new one and hope I didn’t notice?” You asked, Bucky shook his head no. “did you get mad at me because I gave you a stupid chore?” He also said no to that. “Did you make Wanda keep it alive with her powers?” all these options ran through Bucky’s head and he didn’t even think of them, “you put so much effort into this, and even if you did fail you still cared a lot, that’s all I ever want. I want this relationship to work and if you run at the first sign of adversity then this won’t work, but you buckle down and keep pushing, and if it doesn’t work? Then I know you actually cared, and you tried. That’s all.”
“You’re a keeper.,” Steve said before walking away and giving them space to catch up.
Nat waved a hand in front of Steve’s face, and it turns out he’d been staring at T’Challa for a while while he was talking. They had walked the entire way and Steve just stared at the ground with a blank expression, he needed to look out for you in order to keep Bucky sane.
“S-sorry, I zoned out.” Steve straightened his posture a bit, hands on hips and shoulders rolled back.
“No worries, captain Rogers.” T’Challa spoke calm as ever, “I have the criminals in the room, they have the new tech that’s already set up, my sister wanted to set it up.” T’Challa opened one arm and guided them to the secret room where two men sat with their hands cuffed and on their laps. “Neither of them have any record of being born, probably a fake identity.” The king linked arms with Shuri and walked out of the small room.
Seeing how grand and futuristic Shuri’s lab was made it shocking to be in a normal interrogation cell, two rusty chairs that were occupied and no table. Steve looked to see the single light that hung from the ceiling, it wasn’t a soft yellow like the one’s at the Avenger building but purple, vibranium always casted a purple/blue hue.
“Where are you from?” Steve asked.
“Iceland.” the one on Steve’s left answered.
“Is Hydra now stationed in Iceland?” Nat cut in and asked.
“One station, there’s many.” The same man on the left kept talking, the other one had his head all the way down with his forehead touching his knees.
Steve leaned up against the wall, “you attacked Princes Shuri, why?”
“Because she is the one that made us start from the very beginning, she's the one that erased the trigger words from your friend and our weapon.” He snarled, “She needed to pay for what she did, we should have known Wakanda was the hardest place to attack, we’d need a Winter Soldier for that.” A smirk grew from the right side of his mouth.
“What are you smiling about?” Nat pressed, she walked closer.
“Oh, nothing- ow!” the handcuffs tightened, his breathing rate doubled as he tried to ride out the initial shock.
“Tell us!” Steve smashed the wall, causing a dent to grow from it.
“Fine…” the man adjusted, “once we found out we’d never get our Winter Soldier back we quickly moved on, no one can break Wakanda’s tech, it’s impossible.” The man sighed and looked off, “so we chose to start again, make a new way, create a new trial. It’s safe to say we did.” he took a deep breath and leaded back against his chair, his fingertips were beginning to turn purple, it was difficult to see with the purple hue of the room. “When we attacked your building we didn’t want Barnes, we wanted someone, anyone. This girl was the closest to us, and it seemed to be the closest to Barnes, am I right?” he quizzed, seemed to be genuinely wondering. “She’d wake up and forget where she is, normally she’d pat the ground beside her and call out for a man named Bucky, that’s Barnes. It was the perfect choice, completely on a whim.” He looked at Nat, “she got her confidence from you, the entire time we were slowly poisoning her she completely believed she was here for ransom, it was funny to see her face when he told her what we did to her, how we now control her. The look on her face when we asked who wiped Barnes’ trigger words… She spit them out but her face was full of fear, her voice and thoughts weren’t her own.”
“Why would you tell us all of this?” Steve asked.
“I know I will die,” the cuffs didn’t tighten, “and my friend is already dead, I’d like to go with a bullet and not torture.” He looked up to them. “I think my father has passed, he worked for Hydra and I’d like to see him, to ask for forgiveness.”
Natasha pushed back the other man who hadn’t spoken a word to find his hands blackened and completely dead, the tightness had cut off all circulation. Right near the edge of the cuff and on the man’s skin was starting to split, there was no blood to leak out of the cut because there wasn’t blood in the veins, it was slowly falling and peeling away.
“You tortured my friend- two of them actually!” Steve screamed, “I hope to god you die slowly.” Steve lifted his gun to the man’s face, he closed his eyes. But Steve moved the aim to the thigh, you had told him that a shot to the femoral artery was fatel after ten seconds of bleeding, you had also told him that the femur- which was what the femoral artery is attached to -is the most painful break for bones.
So Steve shot at the middle of the thigh, he and Nat watched without emotion as the man quickly bled out, the blood squirted in the air and rolled down his pants. Blood coming from an artery is bright red and tends to squirt, but from a vein makes the blood more slow and dark. When the final squirt of blood managed to hit the man’s face, Steve knew he hit right on target; and that you were right for all those things.

Date: October 3rd 2024
Bucky and Wanda walked through the forest, most of the leaves had fallen off the trees due to the season so they could see further into the thick woods. Not a lot of talking was happening between the two of them, Bucky was way too focused on keeping his cool while Wanda used her powers to see if there was any form of life around.
The wind blew softly and the leaves that held on for dear life were now getting pushed aside off the flimsy twigs, they would fall and join the other countless leaves that met the same fate. Wanda loved the fall, she’d jump into a pile of leaves any chance she got. Right now she was purposely stepping on the ones that looked the most dry which would give a good crunch. Her nose was a little red due to the cold but everywhere else she was yellow and happy, it seemed she gave off heat.
Bucky hated the fall, the sound of stepping on leaves sounded like someone was right behind him. If there was a Hydra agent out in these woods they would have heard them from a mile away with all of Wanda’s jumping and giggling. Bucky loved Wanda in a motherly kind of way, but sometimes she was just too...happy…
When everything seemed lost, Bucky and Wanda’s phones began to vibrate, Bucky was quick to pick up. Both Bucky and Wanda made their way to a tree stump to take a moment to listen. Wanda sat on the ground floor and picked at the tons of leaves that covered the ground, she’d pick and rip them apart one by one.
“It’s Steve,” Bucky whispered before picking up, “Steve?”
“Buck, you have to listen to me,” his voice was shaken and distraught, “I’ve sent the coordinates, she’s there but I don’t know how much of her is left.”
“What does that mean?” Bucky asked as he looked over to see Wanda looking at the coordinates on her phone.
“I don’t know how much has happened to her, they’ve brainwashed her.” Steve took a deep breath, Bucky could hear Nat in the background, “we have to act fast, we’re on our way, do not wait for us.” he commanded and Bucky nodded but he knew Steve couldn't see, there was a type of mind reading between the two of them that really came in handy for times like these.
“Roger that.” Bucky hung up and began to move again, Wanda had read the location and it turned out they weren’t that far away, at the final stretch they saw the building through the empty trees.
The forest had been cleared around the building, the grass seems healthy but it was starting to brown with the changing weather. The building itself was very small for it to be the most dangerous Hydra facility, it was only one story. There were no windows and the outer wall was all one grey colour, no symbols or tanks ready to fire; there wasn’t even a guard around the building. It seemed too vacant for it to be true, the wind seemed to stop as they got closer into the open field, it was completely still and almost dead.
Bucky or Wanda actually had a plan, everything had been so fast there wasn’t anything drawn out or spoken about at some meeting, this was all instinct. Though there were no windows and security cameras they both knew something had to be watching the outside, they were low to the ground in the open field but the grass was way too short to cover them. Bucky had his gun ready while Wanda’s hands were in a position to create a shield for the both of them, at the sound of a vibration Wanda checked her phone.
“Steve and Nat have landed, they are five minuets out,” she whispered.
“Copy.” was all Bucky could think to say.
Both of their backs smashed against the wall, with their final moments of bliss before fighting a couple deep breaths were taken and eyes remained shut. Bucky’s finger fiddled on the trigger of the gun, Imagining what it would look like to blow the man who hurt you to oblivion. Bucky moved further and farther away from his Winter Soldier thoughts, the mass murder and robotic revenge. But when it came to someone hurting you, he’d even put the mask back on.
On the count of three the door was bursted open, and right away agents on the inside began to fire. Wanda and Bucky took them down their own way.
One agent was still alive, Bucky ran up and gripped his throat. “Where is she!” he screamed.
“You’ll never know-”
A gun was placed to his head.
“-Alright! Alright!” The man shrieked, “third door on the left, please don’t kill me!” the man cried.
“I won’t kill you,” Bucky lowered his gun but the grip on his neck tightened, “I’ll torture you slowly before.'' His left hand gripped so tight around the agent’s neck he could hear the bone shattering, clear fluid from the agent’s spine leaked from his eye and ear before blood followed. Bucky watched emotionlessly as the agent’s face turned blue and almost popped like a balloon. “Wanda, get them all outside.”
“Yes, sergeant!” Wanda yelled, she was fighting off everyone else.
Bucky blew by everyone as they ran to see the commotion, so ran right by Bucky without thinking he was the threat. Wanda was now outside and in a matter of seconds the eeriness of the outside matched the inside, the air was still and stuffy, it smelt like the beginning of decomposing. Bucky had his gun ready but it seemed no one was in here, his only threat was you.
Bucky took note of the stone grey floors, and stone grey walls, and stone grey ceilings. HYDRA didn’t put much money into design like the Avenger’s did, all the funds they collected went straight into the tech they made and Bucky was sure that’s why they were still around, they had so much money saved that they could pay people to turn their cheek and walk the other way.
As Bucky scanned for something to give away where all the scientists were, his eye met another door in the very corner of the room, it was exactly the same colour of the stone grey walls but the brass door knob caught his eye. All you could hear was the boot of Bucky’s combat boots on the floor, his breath was even scaring him. His hand reached out for the door and when he opened it he found what he was worrying about.
A cell. More specifically: an empty cell.
There were chains hanging from the ceiling, one large cuff, one for what seemed to be used for a neck and then four cuffs for wrists and ankles. Bucky completely forgot where he was, he didn’t remember there was an entire lab behind him, all his mind was throwing at his memories of a cell just like this.
Bucky didn’t remember much about cells in the early days fighting against HYDRA in a cell, in the 40’s. He did, however, remember what it was like to come out of ice when he was needed. The concept of life didn’t exist when he was frozen, it felt like a long blink, it didn’t seem like he’d been asleep for years.
He’d wake up and for a second he was still normal. He’d think it’s cold because it was winter and his house back in the 40’s didn’t have any type of heating system except for a small fireplace, his boots and pants were still on because he got hammered the night before- also explaining the headache -and just fell into bed. All his convincing would go away when his brain would fog again, and he’d look down and catch the shine of his left arm, all at once he’d fall back into place. The dissociating happens after dreams but it came from waking up and not really knowing who he was, as he’d walk to whatever commander was in charge that year he’d ask himself what he was, all the memories and answers in his brain would seem to pull further away, like a word in the tip of his tongue.
He was ripped from his thoughts manually, he thought of you. He thought he was hypnotizing himself when he looked in there at first, too triggered by what he saw to think straight, but he took another moment to look, he saw the chains swinging back and forth ever so slightly.
His stomach dropped, he knew you were still in the room. “Sweetheart?” he called like he always did, “it’s Bucky, we’re gonna get you out of here, come out, baby.” he tried to sound as soothing as possible, he looked under every lab table and every chair.
He flipped through pages on his desk, reading the details of what they did to you. “What is I.C.E.?” Bucky asked himself.
“Injected Complying Enhancement.”
Bucky turned as fast as he could to see you behind him. You were completely naked, body covered in dirt and grime, your hair was hacked and it seemed to have been pulled. Bucky just looked at your body, words were carved into your skin, every single one of them were infected, puss bubbles around the angry red scars. As his eyes trailed up he saw blue on your finger tips, then he reached your face to see a sunken cheekbone and massive cut on your forehead, but nothing compared to a generous piece of your nose hanging on by a thread, the tip was black.
“Baby, do you know me?” Bucky asked through heavy tears, this wasn’t what he was expecting.
You scanned over him, “Sergeant, James Buchanan Barnes, 32557038.”
Right at that moment, he knew you were gone.
