Arendelle Archives 4-year-anniversary countdown - 1/10

That's right! Arendelle Archives turns four years old on July 10th next week. Our ambition is to bring you one post per day for the next ten days 😊

The idea is to keep this simple and fun. No 30-page essays! It's also an opportunity for us to catch up with some "stray" projects that for one reason or another never got completed until now.

For the first installment out of ten, we'll be investigating a somewhat complicated question: how old is the kingdom of Arendelle?

This was actually brought up by a member in our Discord server a couple of weeks ago. The following is a summary of our take on the matter.

What can we learn from the movies?

Ideally, we should look to the movies and short films for an answer. Unfortunately, they do not provide us with any information on the matter. The only thing we can really bring with us from the movies is that Arendelle seems to have a special fondness for Viking paraphernalia (longships, armour and shields) but we don't know exactly how this ties into the history of the kingdom.

Anna's "Viking helmet" in Olaf's Frozen Adventure is actually a Sámi four winds hat. It's highly possible that, given Arendelle's relations with the Northuldra following the loss of the dam, Anna's tutors simply told her the hat was of Viking origin just to downplay Sámi (Northuldra) culture.

Given how little there is to learn about Arendelle's origins from the movies, we need to turn to secondary (expanded universe) sources to find an answer.

What can we learn from the Frozen books and comics?

The secondary material does actually provide us with a couple of clues. Unfortunately, the origins of Arendelle differs depending on what book you consult. Until the matter is brought up in a movie, we can't know for sure. The details presented in books, no matter their level of "canon", could be outdated by the plot of the next movie for all we know.

Below, we have compiled a list of sources that bring up info on the matter. Note: these are the ones we're familiar with. There could be more.

1. Frozen II Junior novelisation (2019) - Prologue

It's difficult to say how much of the cut movie-content still present in the book could be considered canon. It's possible the info was meant to be communicated in the scrapped prologue for Frozen II where the history of Arendelle and Runeard was explained in more detail (supposedly). Since all of that was cut, no one's to say how up-to-date the info in the novelisation is. I feel confident saying it's at least NOT canon to the movie-universe. Yet.

2. Dangerous Secrets (2020) - Chapter 6, 17 & 4

The novel alludes to Runeard being the first king when it mentions him and his people “arriving in Arendelle”. Agnarr and Iduna's teacher Miss Larsen also says that “the Arendellians settled by the fjord and called it Arenfjord”. So, Disney most certainly provided Mari Mancusi with this explanation. However, in the same book Lord Peterssen also refers to Runeard's father as "king" which begs the question where he was king if Arendelle did not exist.

Furthermore, the novel also introduced some of Agnarr's ancestors (King Eric and Queen Else) who are also referred to as kings and queens. But of what exactly? It is also confusing to me why Runeard and his people would call themselves Arendellians before the kingdom existed. The novel also never explains where they came from.

3. Polar Nights - Cast Into Darkness (2022) - Chapter 10

The novel mentions Aren and gives him the title “the legendary ruler of Arendelle of old”. So here the novel suggests Arendelle did exist in the past (in some form) and not just for the past fifty years.

4. Forest of Shadows (2019) - Chapter 3 & 4

This novel could have easily cleared things up regarding King Runeard's background but only references him overseeing the construction of the current Arendelle castle but does not credit him as founder of the kingdom. Arendelle's legendary hero Aren is also introduced in this novel. He is said to have lived before the "last ice age."

5. Anna and the mystery of the mountains (2022)

The graphic novel brings up the construction of the walls of Arendelle Castle using phyllite rock but doesn't specify when this happened or who conducted the work.

6. Google Assistant Frozen Stories - The Saga of Aren (2019)

This audio story (a variation of a legend told in Forest of Shadows) treats Aren as Arendelle's founding father, giving it its name. Or at least the Arenfjord. Since only myths and legends exist from this time in history, we can't say for sure how much of it is true. Or at what point Arenfjord became Arendelle.

7. Google Assistant Frozen Stories - Protecting Arendelle (unofficial title, 2019)

Another audio story centers around King Gorm (who was a historical king in Denmark in the 10th century) trying to conquer the lands of the north with his fleet of ships, makes direct references to "Arenfjord" showing that the name was already established during the Viking Age.

8. Elsa's Icy Rescue (2020)

This chapter book brings up the history of Arendelle in the shape of a textbook read by Iduna to Elsa. Iduna asks her to cite the names of "the first ten rulers of Arendelle", a clear departure from the idea that Runeard was the first king.

9. Breaking Boundaries (2019)

In this graphic novel, Elsa comments that "Arendelle has been peaceful for centuries", indicating the kingdom must have existed long before Runeard (who lived only around fifty years earlier according to Polar Nights).

10. Lur thief (2016)

This comic mentions an Arendellian queen and princess from two generations before King Runeard.

11. A year with Elsa and Anna (and Olaf, too!) (2016)

This anthology book mentions Anna and Elsa's great-great-great-great-great-grandmother who was “Arendelle's first queen” (first queen regnant in our interpretation) hundreds of years ago. She also invented a recipe for Anna's favourite snack krumkake.

So, in conclusion: different ideas about the age of Arendelle exist in official material. The theories aren't even consistent after Frozen II.

Basically, Arendelle could be anything from a little over fifty years old (before Frozen II & Polar Nights) or as much as a thousand years old depending on what exact time period Aren of Arendelle was from. As we've brought up in our previous projects Anna & Elsa's lost family members and Arendelle's family tree, it is possible that the "ice age" mentioned in both Forest of Shadows and Frozen II refers to the Fimbulvetr, aka. the Mighty Winter, from Norse mythology which is theorised to have happened in 536 AD. If Aren truly was the first Arendellian, the kingdom could easily be 1 300 years old or older.

Post Old Guard 2 Spoiler Based Thoughts, Ratings, and Trigger Warnings.

so that was a movie. if you weren’t following along with my 123 thoughts i had while watching they are all in my previous post. but after consuming the entire movie and then screaming into the void i have thoughts.

First: The Bad

so first and foremost i believe that the movie is pretty mid. its a fun action romp with some cool set designs, but it is missing parts that made the original good. it doesn’t have an ending but instead just a cliffhanger, its missing some of the relationships that made us enjoy the first one. i did rewatch the first right before watching the second so perhaps i’m biased because of that. focusing on the relationship part i found that joe and nicky fighting was far too much of the runtime, they get one action scene before they start fighting then they don’t have a moment together really until right before the finale battle. they also introduced new characters that didn’t fit right, though i will say i honestly think tuah had great chemistry with every character.

my other big gripe was the lore. in movie 1 we are given some hard lines: you die and wake up immortal, you then have dreams of all the other immortals until you meat them, and one day it goes away. simple rules. that start to drift away immediately in movie 2. tuah is an ancient immortal (older and jesus if my math is good) who has only ever met andy but no one dreams of him, fine, weird but maybe it’s because he’s so old, but the main bad guy discord (yes that is the name they gave her) is even older and only nile has ever dreamed of her despite the fact that she hasn’t met any of them. speaking of nile, she hasn’t a power special to her because she’s the last immortal, which is a whole different can of worms, but she can take away people’s immortality by stabbing them. which is so silly i can’t even think about it. and the big bad’s plan? is to get nile to stab the others to get their immortality.

and my last complaint is that booker is so off putting this movie. spoilers he’s in it. but he has a few things that bother me, and to be clear i do really like the character and his nuance. he fulfills the trope of suicidal immortal perfectly while also having more traits to him. but in this movie after find out that nile can take immortality away, then the ex-immortal can transfer it away, he tricks her into stabbing him so he can give the immortality to andy. he does not get consent from the girls despite the fact that to me this feels like both of them were unwilling parts of his suicide. because his death felt like a suicide to me. now everyone can read what they want into movies, but his death was not needed. it did not give andy more time because she just sat there watching and trying to save him. it did nothing to the plot. and it was a cruel and painful death.

Second: The Good

every actor brought their a game. quyhn was just as strange and unpredictable as expected. the bad guy felt underwhelming until she wasn’t. tuah had excellent chemistry with everyone, i even thought he was brought on to be a love interest to one of the singles in the movie. and the original cast slipped right back into these rolls perfectly, i had expected some fanonization of the characters especially nicky and joe, but they all felt so identical to their original roles. i mentioned above that joe and nicky are fighting for a long part of the runtime, but it’s mostly because joe has been in contact with booker this whole time, which originally felt wrong because joe was the most angry at booker, but his dialogue and acting made it make sense.

the action was choreographed well. maybe not as great as the first movie, and i think the opening scene needs work, but the action is great. there is my favorite type of fight scene at one point, which is people in a small area, and i also really enjoyed the final fight. i didn’t notice any time where the henchmen went one after another at our heroes which i think is a good litmus test. and i truly enjoyed some of the close ups during the fight. there was one moment that confused me in the final fight but i honestly think that was my fault. if i had to pick a weak spot in the fight choreography i’d say it would be any spear work.

i also found the music fantastic, it ebbed and flowed just right. i did notice that the half decade between movies made the music style change, but i am not sure it was a bad thing. the songs were catchy and fit in the movie just like last time. one that sticks out is after a fight andy pants in time with the songs beat. it could have been cheesy but it wasn’t because of the emotional weight of the scene and the good song choice.

Third: The Ratings

i am going to give this movie several ratings based on my own personal opinions! if you disagree that’s okay! but please don’t be a jerk about it!

Plot: 📖📖.5/5 the plot was good but it didn’t stand out. it’s a mid action movie. i would probably watch it again but i won’t find myself drawn to it. and it ends on a cliffhanger so it doesn’t feel like a full movie.

Characters: 🪓🪓🪓🪓/5 the characters are all excellent but they gave us too many too many new characters (including quyhn) and i personally don’t like what they did with booker

Acting: 🕴️🕴️🕴️🕴️.5/5 the acting is amazing but uma thurman fell flat until the end when we found out why she was doing this.

Cinematography: 🎥🎥🎥.5/5 it’s good. not as good as the first one. and the sets are mostly amazing, but the opening set is less than stellar and it’s impossible to get a read on the final battle ground until the end. but each country had its own unique style except possibly rome and paris.

Dialogue: 📣📣📣📣/5 it’s good. there were several lines i felt needed to be written down in my notes about the movie but honestly there were also lines that made me cringe a little. i also enjoy how much they spoke other languages this time, but the captions weren’t always captioning it, sometimes you would get a “speaking french” and other times it would tell you what they were saying.

Sound Design: 🎙️🎙️.5/5 the music was amazing like i talked about in my review but i found that the sound design was lacking in the diegetic noise, one of the scenes i remember best in the first one is the bullets falling, in this one there are a few swooshes of the ax but otherwise it’s pretty nonexistent.

Emotional Impact: 🫀🫀🫀/5 if you read my live thoughts you would know i went irate when booker died. and that i felt cheated by his death for several reasons. so three is all they get.

Overall: 🍿🍿🍿.43 out of 5. i think it’s a major downgrade from the first but i’d watch it again. i honestly thought id put it closer to a 2.75 before doing all these ratings. i also think as far as sequels go i only ever give them a 3.75/5 or so, meaning this is pretty good. like it’s not amazing and im gonna be feeling some sort of way about it for a long time but it is a sequel and it did most of its job.

Forth: The Bizarrely Specific Trigger Warnings

i am going to assume the first one was watching and that you know what the blood and gore and swearing is like. so these will be so specific you don’t even know.

1. there is no kissing.

2. suicidal tendencies and actions resulting in death

3. death of immortals

4. non construal power use (both the person with powers and the person having them be used on them don’t consent)

5. 500 years at sea

6. exs fighting

7. currents fighting

8. mortal vs immortal racism (i think it’s important to mention that uma thurman says the last name freeman like she doesn’t believe nile deserves to be free, that said it is more about nile being recently mortal than nile being black)

God nothing hits like early bleach, the substitute shinigami arc and rukia’s execution arc are just. Ugh. Something about the crunchy-ass early 2000s-ness of it that the rest of the series lost (not just animation wise but aesthetic wise), when there was still hope that all the potential would be capitalized on, idk, it was just fun and getting to fall in love with all the characters because pretty much every single one introduced was great and engaging. I just really really wish the series had kept that early vibe that it started losing once the visoreds were introduced, they got the last little tail end of it. As soon as we got to the heuco mundo arc this all vanished and it’s so upsetting, the series just lost a lot of its personality, if that makes sense, I wish it had kept it so badly

you and i don't have time to make good food, and we don't have the budget for it. we are not gonna be able to host dinner parties, we're not made of money, kid. do you want some kind of 3rd space? a space that isn't home or work or school? you could try being online, but - what places actually exist for you? tiktok counts as social media because you see other people on it, not because they actually talk to you.

there was a local winter tradition of sledding down the hill at my school. kids would use pizza boxes and jackets and whatever worked, howling and laughing. back in september, they made a big announcement that this time, rules were changing, and everyone must pay 10 dollars to participate. when im not scared shitless, i kind of appreciate the environmental irony - it hasn't gone below 40. so much for snow & joyriding.

This is an odd post, but seeing all the new Hellenic Polytheists terrified of making the Gods angry breaks my heart.

You have to try extremely hard to make the Gods mad. They will not be mad at you for tiny things. You practically have to be intentionally trying to make them mad, or do something hubristic. I wanted to share a story of mine personally to aid others in this anxiety. I know this may be an odd way of helping others feel better, but I really do hope it helps.

I started working with and worshipping Lady Hekate over a year ago. I was in a horrendous headspace, and called out to Her for more selfish reasons. I built my relationship with Her on needing help to do baneful workings against the abuser I just escaped from. Which, really, is a thing a lot of people do. But, because I was in this horrendous headspace, I didn’t go about it the right way. I didn’t do a good job at building Kharis with Her, or giving Her any offerings for Her help. I was quite disrespectful to Her, really. I felt my relationship with Her turn towards something more strained. I felt more negative when thinking of Her, and a lot of the time I felt shut out from Her. Any offerings I gave Her felt disconnected, like a call that didn’t go through. She was not quite happy with me, and I couldn’t blame Her.

The thing is, though, is that She was never angry with me. I could feel our relationship break slightly, and I could feel a wall between us. My offerings didn’t always feel like they were accepted, and our relationship just felt discordant. But every time I sat down with Her with my divination tools and asked if She was mad at me, the answer was always a very strict, ‘no’. Despite how tumultuous our relationship felt, She was never angry. Disappointed maybe, yes, but not angry. I worked closely with Her on repairing the little cracks in our relationship as I begun to heal a bit more from what I asked Her to help me with, and as I got more stable in myself. I dedicated time to devotional acts for Her, speaking with Her, and giving Her offerings with the intention of reparations. Very quickly, our relationship healed. I wouldn’t say it’s perfect yet, but we have a very wonderful relationship now. I clean bones in Her honor, and I love to feel Her presence as I do so.

All in all, the point of this is, our relationships with our Gods are just that—relationships. The Gods will not be mad at you for every small thing, or even for bigger things, like the mistakes I made. Your relationship may feel odd with Them from time to time, but that’s completely alright. Like every relationship, you have to figure out your rhythm, and there’s no sense in a God being mad for you figuring out how this all works. I was very experienced with this all when I made those mistakes, and yet She was never mad. Why would They be upset when you’re just figuring it all out?

Rest easy, all of you. This is a religion, this is life, this is love. Religion is to be enjoyed, to let your happiest self go. The Gods rejoice in Themselves, and rejoice in you. Have fun, be respectful, and trust in yourselves and Them. Love to all of you—be kind to yourselves.

Apps we use as a system !

Simply plural!

Simply plural is a great app for Systems! it allows you to track who's fronting, add more in depth information about who's fronting, Sort headmates out into groups, it also has a chat function.

Negatives: whilst it is a great app! it is more ideal for Smaller to medium sized Systems or Systems that switch solidly or for longer periods of time, as a bigger system outself, we find it quite difficult to use Sometimes, as it can be difficult for us regrading having to get up and log things.

they are also supportive of endogenic "Systems" and their resources do contain misinformation.

Octocon!

octocon is very similar to simply plural!

you can add headmates, categorise them, it also has a bit directly in discord, so it could be easier for some systems to use! It also has a diary feature! we have less to say about this as we personally don't use it, but it could be helpful for other systems!, it is currently only on andriod but will be releasing on IOS late 2024/2025

we feel that the app is quite clunky and can be difficult to use, especially if your already using apps like simply plural.

they also have a limit on how many alters profiles you can create to "limit the amount of fakers" - to specify direct quote from the official octocon server linked on there website, “the alter limit is to basically protect against ddos attacks, without the limit someone could take up an unreasonable amount of the bots resources and crash it. theres no way to go past it, and nobody so far has gotten close to going past the alter limit as far as we know.” I heard the term fakers being thrown around, I also assume that by “fakers” they mean endo “systems” but still the tone is there and it rubs me the wrong way considering systems that have high high alter counts (such as ourselfs) :)

Notion!

Notion is a great app! we personally dont use it to track our system but we know many Systems that do! it can easily be used for tracking fronts, alters, giving alters journal pages etc! it's very easy to use for beginners and there are many tutorials on YouTube about it! It is also used by a alot of singlets too!

our only criticism is that it isn't built for Systems! So you would need to build it all yourself or use templates if that makes sense which we know for Some Systems could be a struggle!

Mindly

Mindly is a very easy to use app, which is commonly used for making innerworld maps! It's very simply to visualise and understand!

Our negatives for mindly are that there is a limit on how many maps you can make, if you are like us for example and have different layers in your system you wouldn't be able to make multiple maps for those layers, also it is very limited on how you can customise your bubbles, with only the colour, text and emoji

Fortelling

Fortelling is a great app! you can use it to create innerworld maps every easily! being able to include images and in-depth describes also!, we also use it to create split/fussion maps, and you can also use it similarly to Simply plural as you can add in depth information and also custom fields!

Anytype

Anytype is a good app for creating private journal pages for headmates!

It's a great way to allow alters there own private space to express themselves

Our negatives is that it can be quite confusing when you first start using the app, and it could get confusing if you are a bigger System

Twinote

we love twinote! it's such a fun way to communicate with your headmates! the app is very similar to twitter but it's completely private! alters can completely create there own profiles and communicate with each other very easily!, we also know singlets that use it for role playing also! :)

Daylio

We use daylio well daily! it's a great way to track things like switches or Symptoms eta very simply! we also use it for non system related things just like sleep, school, our mood etc!! It's been so helpful for us and our doctors!

I was very anxious and afraid to speak about this, but I realize that my last posts weren't a good or sufficient way to address what happened. I want to be open about the things that were posted about me and some other community members in February.

However, I don’t want to make this about anyone else who was involved in this conversation, because they are not responsible for anything I said, just as I cannot take responsibility for the words of others and the interpretation thereof. This post is solely about me taking responsibility for my own words.

In a private conversation on discord I made a joke about Aziraphale not understanding asexuality (in a rather aphobic way) that sounds very much like a Sexual Assault joke.

I want to make one thing very clear to the people who don’t know me as closely: I don’t enjoy non-con in any way, neither art nor fic, I don’t believe that ace people need to be “proven wrong” and I’m sorry if I came across this way.

Secondly, I know that making jokes about these topics is very much not funny to a lot of people, but this was clearly a joke made in a safe space among friends and not a public statement of any kind. We all have different filters when talking to those close to us compared to speaking in public. This was never supposed to be an attack on my ace followers and doesn't mean I hate ace people, or that I don’t care about what victims of Sexual Assault go through. To everyone who felt hurt after seeing that screenshot, to everyone who feels disrespected or unsafe because of what I said: I’m sorry.

In the one-and-a-half years that I've been part of the Good Omens fandom, I've always strived to be kind and welcoming to everyone and I will continue to do so in the future as I very much appreciate this about the Good Omens Fandom. I don’t harass, bully or discriminate against anybody and it's sad to see that people would believe such things about me.

On the other hand, I'm honestly shocked how far some particularly bad actors would go, including posting screenshots of private conversations (including the above screenshot), attempts of doxxing me and even trying to compromise my college education by attempting to contact my university in order to slander me, as well as actively sabotaging my thesis project. Something else that clearly crossed all lines was the harassment of completely unrelated people who are in some way associated with me. Dragging innocent people into the drama, for example other artists whose work I reblogged or the mods of a subreddit I posted on just because they tolerated my presence, is not justifiable and absolutely unacceptable, and I do not want anyone to go through these same things I just described.

If you, based on the joke I made, this statement, as well as my general online presence, have the feeling of no longer wanting to support me, you’re free to block me and cancel your Patreon subscription, but this kind of toxicity goes a step too far. 

In the future, I want this blog to continue to be a safe space for joy, inspiration and creativity. I used standard anonymous crewmate design for ppl with no info

But tried to gather at least some info from old server screenshots for cues, like CR6548 Kura had different red emojis in their bio, so I gave them a rose strawberry crown and earrings 🌹🍓

Werewolf: the Essentials Project Update 04/02/2025

Hello, Kinfolks. Woof. What a time to be alive. This is a period that's been reflected many, many times in the past under many different names. It seems like every time I pick up my phone there is always some new awful thing awaiting us. The intentional composition of the writers on this team are diverse and come from cultures across the world, and what ties us together has been our queerness, our passion for Werewolf, and our commitment to let our passions fuel our writing. The result has been a product that shows the passion from one page to the next.

In short, the state of the world has impacted the pace at which we're working on the book. The priority right now is survival, and surviving is the task that has consumed most of the attentions of those helping with W:tE. It should come as no surprise that people who passionately care about Werewolf also care about the world around them at large, and that is exactly what many of us are doing.

All the same, what's agreed between everyone on the team is that we all feel the work we're doing matters, and in many ways it can be a good way to keep one busy when the other option is the good-old doomscroll. And so, work is still happening, and beyond that, its starting to pick up again.

So, what work remains?

Writing

Writing is more or less finished. Editing is ongoing and as small issues or missing mechanics come up we've been working them in. Chapters 1-7 are complete, and Chapter 8, our storytelling and chronicle section, is in its last few pages before calling it done. We have a small number of writers still working on this, and so far we're looking at 100 Rite of Passage Story Seeds, and 40-60 Cliath Story Seeds. All in all we're handing Storytellers enough game material to be able to keep their tables plenty busy for at least a year of weekly game sessions. Also as a spitball number, by the time this book hits shelves we are looking to be at around 450 pages.

Layout

We are at the 75% complete mark! Chapter 6 of 8 is underway. Due to an influx of support, we're able to have one of our editors pick up work on a more daily basis, so this process should similarly be speeding up in the immediate future. It always feels like the work is neverending, but slowly and surely we're making progress. I've promised myself once this book enters preflight I'm taking a long vacation.

First off, who am I?

I'm Mionn, a TWST-obsessed artist who recently started posting art here and is planning to make a ton of Twisted Wonderland content in the future.

Said content is going to include a fair share of comics and OC content, which is why I came up with this project.

I also have a meme blog, @twistedmionn, and a blog devoted to my Deuce x Allen ship, @spade-of-storms.

I love hosting projects, and I hope this will be enjoyable for everyone who decides to join!

What is the purpose of the project?

connecting with others in the fandom & making friends

sharing your own OCs and discovering the ones of other members

fun shenanigans with canons & OCs

developing OC relationships

I'm planning to make short comics based on this project, so your OC will occasionally appear in them!

there's going to be a Tumblr blog where I reblog content involving the OCs participating in the project (= serves as a "library" for the OCs)

What exactly is going to be done?

I'm going to make occasional short comics involving the OCs from the project, and they might also make cameos in my usual art.

Outside of that, this project is meant for making friends with fellow OC havers or strengthening already existing friendships! You can also build relationships between your OCs and the ones made by other members.

Additionally, we're going to have a Discord server that allows members to freely ramble about TWST and our OCs. If you don't have Discord, that's totally fine as well!

How do I join? What do I have to do?

It's easy! Send me a DM asking me to join the project and submit all the OCs you want to be a part of it. We will work on further important details then!

Who can join?

Anyone who isn't a proshipper/racist/anti-LGBTQ+.

Since there are going to be multiple Yuus, Ramshackle doesn't have an official prefect in this project.

None of the Yuus presently know why they're in TWST or what their purpose is.

Yes, and they're actually fairly relevant!

Unless the owners of two OCs decide on making a poly ship, only one OC x canon ship is allowed per canon character.

For the sake of fairness, please submit one OC x canon ship only (maybe your Yumeship/the one that matters the most to you).

CW BULLYING, LITERALLY IMMATURE HIGH SCHOOL DRAMA, SUB POSTING.

hi nonnie, thank you for letting me know! since i’m leaving this blog & this platform for the foreseeable future i figured i might aswell get a few things off of my chest before i go. i apologise in advance for the vibes this post will probably bring, the discourse & the posts that will ofcourse follow, but i honestly i am not the first person to be targeted by this creator and i’m sure i won’t be the last considering the amount of creators that have been bullied off of this app by them.

first off i’ve had multiple blogs that would be considered bigger blogs such as @/hvnlydmn, @/atsymu + now this blog which is the biggest of all 3. i think there’s a sort of unspoken responsibility that comes with being a bigger blog which i know is no fun but it’s also because it can be super harmful on a site like this, when people weaponise their following.

on that note i’ll start this post by saying that i’ve known tee for probably around 3/4 years, maybe? we were mutuals on hvnlydmn & atsymu and we continued to talk on discord even when i was off of tumblr. i will honestly admit to this day i have never had a negative interaction with tee to my face and she was genuinely supportive of me during any discourse i was involved in. i am not some angel, i’ve had my fair share of crap on this app (of my own doing) but this post is not meant to come across like “oh she doesn’t like me so i’m calling her out” no. im sorry if this doesn’t line up with my brand and my ‘victim complex’ but i’m not gonna lie down and let someone on a power trip on a hobby app drag me through the mud.

first off i had began to get some off vibes from tee when i had started writing on garoujo, notably when i’d just hit my first milestone which was probably around 1k. during this i had decided to move my instagram theme from my main blog to my writing blog.

i’d noticed tee subposting (on main and on her personal blog which i followed at the time) about someone basically using the same theme as her, which after then clicking onto her blog i realised was an instagram theme. i didn’t think much of it, again me & tee were friends and she hadn’t came to me directly so ignored it. i was still a new blog and trying to solidly an aesthetic (before the beige lol) so i changed my theme / masterlists / layouts a lot.

a few more sub posts later i decided to message tee about it because with every thing i’d change / post on my blog, there always seemed to be another post. so i messaged her and got this response in: (i’ve blurred out my irl name btw) open up pics for convo!

so i let it slide, kept posting & that was that. probably a few days / a week later, tee had soft blocked me which then eventually led to me being hard blocked. i was upset ofcourse because i genuinely considered tee a good friend but i’ve always been a big advocate in controlling your space.

this was when, one of our mutuals in common (the first of many may i add) approached me on discord to say that just like now, i was being ripped to shreds on tee’s personal blog:

again i was notably upset about this because i was being accused of not only copying her theme but also her writing & masterlists, we did have a lot of mutuals in common so it was also upsetting knowing they would all be seeing these posts aswell. i allowed myself one sub post about “creating a narrative” because i was particularly frustrated but tee then also subposted about this, even though she had me blocked?

i would also like to say regarding our mutuals in common that this was not the first or last mutual to approach me regarding tee. i’ve had multiple people tell me that “they’re only mutuals with her because it would be more damaging not to be” “it’s easier to be on her side”. also i am not saying this is okay but i’ve had multiple of her current mutuals send me not only her posts, but screenshots of her private, personal instagram & also tell me about how all of them and their friends had a running joke / theory that tee made up her boyfriend (ex-boyfriend?) for attention.

regarding the accusations from tee i’d like to first comment on the instagram themes, again i had done an instagram theme on my main blog but it seemed to only be an issue when it was on my writing blog that was gaining traction. if the timing was off and it seemed like i copied her, i genuinely have nothing to say except it’s not the case— it’s instagram (which tee already admits she doesn’t own above) also the hanma writing? i’m still not 100% sure which drabbles she was referring to but i can only assume that 1. is when i posted a drabble about hanma fucking you outside of his subordinates house — this was a almost completely word by word rewrite of a suna drabble i done on my old blog @/atsymu i literally just changed the concept to fit tokyo revengers themes. i can post screenshots of this suna drabble also from my google docs dated February when i deactivated. the other one may have been some basic concept about him fucking you against the window.

she also mentions in the very first recent screenshot at the beginning of this post that i have apparently stolen concepts of fics / posts from her mutuals. what i want to say regarding this is, do you believe that i would have made it this far on stolen work? i don’t know any of the mutuals she’s referring to apart from 1 which i’ll get into. but every single accusation i’ve ever received has always come from someone associated or in contact with tee, she has always been at the root of it all but i have yet to receive a single anon or ask about me copying or taking inspiration from anyone’s work.

i know there was apparently a blog and an ex mutual of mine, who i had a lot of respect & time for who was under the impression i’d stolen their concept for this gojo fic. the whole premise of this fic is honestly not uncommon considering how many times people losing control of their techniques / powers / quirks during orgasm has been done in fanfiction. this concept was completely my own, i had originally posted shitposts about him losing control of his technique & also him putting you into a mating press / breeding before i’d decided to smoosh them together into a fic. we all read from the same workbook, we all have the same material to work off of — two people in a fanbase of THOUSANDS having a similar idea is not unheard of.

now onto the masterlist banners. the screenshot on the far left are the comparison photos that tee made herself— i’m sure you’ll be able to see them in better quality when she makes her own post about it; because obviously that’s going to come. first off i will say, i will admit i took inspiration from her official art masterlist banners — i thought hers looked good and i needed a masterlist so i used official art. fair game there although i only kept them for a few days before i changed again.

but onto the grey masterlist banners, i can honestly say i did not even know tee had this masterlist, also the only comparison i myself see is the colour. the only reason i chose grey was because i had started to use a grey / white overlay on my manga panels for my layout (as you can see far right), and as you know— i’ve always kept my colour scheme pretty consistent. on that note, regarding the actual layout of the masterlists— i’ve added screenshots from atsymu (that i could find due to it being deactivated) that shows the layout of my old masterlists, which was what i took inspiration from for my current. although the title font for each heading like headcanons is different, i had used the sort of old style, basic font that everyone uses before i had deactivated so it would match my fic headers i just don’t have photos obviously.

anyway on the back of this there was then discourse over me apparently copying tee’s kinktober masterlist, which again was not the case. but again due to tee’s following i had received multiple death threats into my asks the morning after i posted mine. as far as i was aware, the only similarities were the fact we both used gifs in our headers & the layout listing thirsts, hcs & fics (which is very common during kinktober but i admitted below i could see that similarity). unfortunately during all of this discourse was when ffflowers, my hate blog also came into the mix which then lead to tee reaching out to me in dm’s from her old blog.

the interaction between me & tee was pretty good, again she was nothing but nice to me directly despite the way she obviously spoke about me in private above. but as you can see below, tee herself told me that basically most of the similarities all made above were brushed off as basic. we spoke about the ig themes & i apologised, saying i could understand where she was coming from and that was that. i unblocked her & she unblocked me so i could reblog her post, it’s been that way since.

it is not my place to comment on other people’s experiences on this app but i would need more than 2 hands to list the amount of people that i’m sure have had similar if not worse experiences with tee. i know i have had multiple mutuals who have been bullied off of this platform & had their safe space ripped from them for little things such as: liking a character that this group selfship with, tee and her friends not liking their characterisation. they’ve even went as far as to go through other larger creators notes to check for minors so they can make excuses as to why they’re thriving.

i also know of a blog who was ‘blacklisted’ from tee & her mutuals as they self shipped with arataki itto at the time, one of tee’s friends also did, so they blacklisted this creator and had all of their mutuals block them for this which then in turn drove this creator off the app. there has been other notably bitchy things that i’ve heard but i have no receipts for therefore i don’t see any relevance in starting rumours.

i would also like to say i know plagiarism is a horrible thing, we have all been through it— myself included but it’s got to the point where being accused of copying tee has become a canon event. notably, bigger platforms have been ruined and driven off of this app for little things such as mdni dividers, similar colours schemes etc. and it’s the reason i’m also leaving.

i will say i have met some amazing people through my discourse with tee, notably people who have been in similar situations and i also apologise to any mutuals who we still have in common who are now sort of stuck inbetween. no hard feelings. although to tee: id be careful of the people you trust because it seems the loyalties they have to you are not as sincere as you may believe. you can also go to her personal & read the other things she was saying about me like how she was always so ? at how many people seemed to like me.

so that’s all i have to say, i’m sure dash will get a few responses from this but i’ll be logging out & turning off asks because honestly? couldnt care less. the only thing i’d change about my experience on this app would be i wish i’d blocked tee sooner.

Announcing: The Closure of Suibian Subs

It's never truly easy to make these type of announcements... but what would I know, I've never had to make one like this before:

I am announcing the permanent closure of Suibian Subs. The public discord server and translation work will cease.

As for our downloads, we are still deciding whether to offer them on our tumblr - which will stay open - or if there is a better solution going forward.

Please note that this doesn't mean everyone should race to upload MDZS audio drama to Youtube!! We still do not appreciate our wishes being broken.

However, if you have a friend who's downloaded the audio drama, you can have them share with you privately either online or in person. Do not upload it for the public anywhere.

Treasure Chest subs is currently working on MDZS audio drama subs. Please find their information to get access to their downloads, and respect their rules.

If you're truly wondering, this closing is not about the server hack. It's 10% server hack and 90% member interest. The server being hacked is what really brought things into perspective for us. That is:

It's kind of hard to believe this all happened because I was impatient. LOL

I was impatient and decided to try MTL translating the MDZS audio drama, myself. We all know how well that would've worked. Luckily, the first person to contact me was iarrod before I released anything

I never really thought it would be of such significance to hundreds of people. It was simply a passion project between iarrod and I. Then we added a bunch of other members: Gwyn, askcj1, Yen, and several more that have left over the years... and the rest is history.

Yes, people come and go, life changes, they need to take a break, then a "break" turns into leaving. Sometimes personalities clash and drama ensues. And the group either recovers from these types of changes or struggles to come back to its full glory.

I will certainly miss the camaraderie among us, the random chats, the streams, etc. It was all a fun time in my life that I will look back on and cherish.

Thank you especially to all of the team members, translators and subbing team, for sticking around, enjoying the good times and not-so-good times. Thank you iarrod for helping me out when I was so damn impatient - ha!.

Thank you to those members who have left for your work and dedication to the server.

FRAUD ANALYSIS

(SPOILERS FOR THOSE WHO WISH TO REMAIN BLIND)

"TRUST NOT YOUR EYES, TRUST NOT YOUR EARS."

MY OPENING THOUGHTS

I have... SO MANY THOUGHTS. There was a lot going on here with Fraud and it has absolutely surprised me in its presentation. I'll be talking about specific things to make it easier for me and for you, dear reader, to better understand and process what in the Hell is happening here.

PROVIDENCE

I was stupid and thought it was initially a seraphim because they have similar designs, but yk what Virtues look like Serpahims too so I dunno what I'm on abt LMAO.

I knew from the start the eye in the cover for In Absentia ΛΟΓΟΣ was related to an enemy after following the logic of Hear! The Siren Song Call of Death's preview with the Gutterman's shield. Despite that, oh my goodness this is a really sick design, the transparent, glassy feathers, the eye and how it looks like a slab placed onto the wings, it looks so WEIRD and I love it so much, for our third ever angel enemy, they delivered hard on its design.

I have seen some theories/speculation that Providence looks way too detailed/refined compared to other enemies, inferring that V1 is incapable of processing Providence's appearence. While I'm not opposed to the idea, I don't necessarily subscribe to it, I think Providence is just a really big model which leaves a lot of room for details to be refined. If V1 can process a Virtue, it can process a Providence.

It looks obnoxious with that magenta beam, I don't even wanna know what it does on Brutal LMAO. Surprisingly brittle for an 8th layer enemy though or maybe it retains similar damage multipliers as a Virtues which is why the Electric Railcannon did so much damage to it, idk. I don't have much else to really say about Providence other than the fact it's a visually impressive pain in the asshole, can't wait to see it for the first time and want to kill it harder than every other enemy in a Cybergrind wave.

FRAUD'S AESTHETICS

Fun fact abt myself: I REALLY FUCKING LOVE LIMINAL SPACES. I love liminal spaces with all my heart, they're a really cool form of atmospheric horror (don't confuse this with the backrooms, I hate that shit). Fraud basing itself off of liminal spaces is really damn neat and honestly makes sense, since Hakita even mentioned how during development for 7-1: THE GARDEN OF FORKING PATHS, he tried out stuff like myhouse.wad and ofc read House of Leaves. Besides his own inspirations, it makes perfect sense to use liminal aesthetics here, vaguely familiar halls and rooms met with a reality that defies logic, very fraud if I do say so myself.

Gonna post some pictues of rooms I really like and add any commentary if need be.

Really sick opening room, I love the weird wallpaper, the lamps, just everything here and how its placed is perfect. It perfectly gives off that liminal vibe that this layer is wanting to play into. I adore liminal spaces that feel like it was something built by something that doesn't know how to be human, it gives off such an errie vibe.

A friend on Discord found a theory on Reddit about this and omg it's actually kinda neat

I was squealling when I saw this for the first time. My friend in the vc I was streaming this too said it was all they could hear throughout the trailer LMFAOOO. If there is one thing I'll mention, it's that I think it's funny how apparently Fraud has television but Lust doesn't. What a bunch of bums /j. i do think Lust is more advanced and prolly have TVs, but this is our first official TV in ULTRAKILL

What a banger fucking opening. I adore this shot so much, and honestly it's reminiscent of those liminal space images of hotel hallways like these:

The transition of the hallway shifting to the checkpoint is so fucking awesome too. fun thing I noticed was that there was a low buzzing sound, like when you press yourself up to the walls of Limbo. Not sure if it implies anything or is an audio indicator of shifting realities.

WHAT A COOL ASS ROOM. I LOVED THE TRANSITION HERE SO MUCH, MY JAW DROPPED WATCHING THE WALLS SHIFT TO MAKE IT BIGGER. I'M SO EXCITED TO SEE IF THIS IS GONNA DO ANYTHING MORE THAN JUST THIS AS THE LAYER GOES ON. After seeing this trailer at least 50 times already, I'm curious about how this room instigates the combat, since there's plenty of shots that have V1 walking back to the room or walking into other rooms from the doors. Fun to think about the frustration of getting lost in this place, finding yourself back, and then BOOM ! ENEMY ENCOUNTER ! ! !

Such a banger shot too, I love these kinda infinite mirror-esque rooms for non-euclidian stuff. An interesting detail are that the lion statues actually have a lion head unlike the one Limbo. I love how much this feels like a hotel, it has that eerie transitional vibe hotels can have but has this "first class" vibe to it all.

Really fun shot too. Love non-euclidian stuff playing with gravity and such.

I know I already said my jaw dropped but like... MY JAW. DROPPED. I mentioned it to my oomfies before but it looks a lot like the The Empyrean from Dante's Inferno:

Will mention this here because I don't wanna post images that are basically the same; but the other side of the skybox is noticably darker. Maybe it's this layer's day/night cycle? Not too sure but feels logical to me. I love how this layer is leaning into the heavenly imagery, I'm so curious about what kinda lore bits we're gonna get, and considering how we got a new angel enemy, we hopefully probably get some new angel lore. If Virtues and Gabriel were the only angels to have resided in Hell, makes me interested in if other angels are coming down from heaven, either to help Gabriel, or avenge the council by killing him.

I love that we're jumping from rooftops to others, nice change of scenery from the claustrophobic, eerie rooms inside the towers. I am happy the layer is still paying homage to the "tower of lies" idea by having us climb up them, jumping between them, and all that stuff.

Once again with the nonsensical prop placement. Why does this room have tables and chairs when there's nothing to eat or any other reason to lounge about here. Really interesting environmental storytelling, I'm confused and I LOVE IT.

Sick transition but what's with the door on the right ? I wonder if it means anything or is just a visual indicator for where to go... hrmmmm...

"I'M BACK IN THE FUCKING BUILDING AGAIN??????"

Cool transition to the TV again, but I love the sharp contrast of aesthetics here. Again with the nonsensical placement of props but at least all the props share a theme ? ? ? Makes me curious if the next level or the next segment of 8-1: HURTBREAK WONDERLAND is gonna involve the poolrooms. I really hope it does. It's a really cool liminal space aesthetic that I think would be reallly interesting see and makes sense to mesh in with the liminal space inspirations of Fraud.

with all that trailer analysis done, time to yap abt my thoughts of everything we've seen with some theories and speculation of my own :3

WHAT IS EVEN GOING ON ?

In Dante's Inferno, Fraud has 10 blogias (circles) that had specific punishments for different kinds of fraudulant behavior, but here in this Fraud ? Is the punishment here that the sinner is in a non-euclidian hotel being driven mad by the isolation and non-sensical rooms? It feels too much like Limbo if that is what's being done here, and besides, there's smaller buildings, there's rivers, there's all sorts of pleasant stuff here, what if maybe Fraud had its own renaissance like Lust ? Maybe the angels are doing something here with Fraud ? I'm honestly confused by what is happening here, I have no ideas for what happened to this layer, but for now I have my other thoughts about the explanations for the aesthetics, potential stuff going, on so forth. Just thought I'd bring up my confusion since I don't really have many ideas for the punishments here.

THE INFINITE HOTEL

With Fraud's aesthetics, I believe Fraud is going to be a hotel and each level is us descending into the kinds of rooms that would be in a hotel, like how in the first level we're in the hallways of what is presumably the place where all the rooms, while the second rooms takes us to a place that resembles the pools of hotels (hence why I believe in 8-2 poolrooms), and etc.

I also kinda see Hilbert's Hotel/The Infinite Hotel Paradox to be a form of inspiration for this place, an infinite hotel, houses infinite guests, and since mankind is dead...

explanation of the paradox:

If we look at Wrath, it feels like the logic of the infinite hotel checks here too, since the river styx began to become bigger following The Final War, and instantly became flooded after mankind's mysterious, biblical extinction. After so many new sinners entered the layer of Wrath, the river adapted to be the ocean, nothing changed, just more people in it now, and how the Ferrymen have grown acustomed to the new environment as well. Fraud after mankind's extinction made there have to be more rooms, and yet, all the "guests" have been accounted for.

A FALSE PARADISE

An idea I have is that Hell Itself rennovated Fraud to resemble the Lust Renaissance, to cruely trick the denizens of Fraud that they escaped the layer and found a comforting place in Hell, and in their delusion, unknowingly still roam around the endless halls of Fraud, finding a twisted pleasure in the false senses of hope the sinners are under.

Idk if I really agree with this idea, because why are there statues of Providence, why is there such heavenly imagery in this layer if this idea suggests it wants to be like Lust ? Maybe it instead wants to be a false Heaven ? But if that's the case, why are the towers and their architecture anything but ? I am lost over what this layer is wanting to be, it's obvious that every layer had their own punishments, either the punishments were directly shown to us in the layer (like Heresy's coffins, Wrath's ocean, and Violence's trees), or at least were mentioned, like with Lust's winds. But here in Fraud ? I have no idea what the punishment is here. Like. At all. It leaves me curious for what's in store and what is going to be explained, or maybe some theories are gonna be absolutely banger, who knows.

NEW ENEMIES & LORE

Soooo new enemies are coming, I believe we are either getting one or 2, potentially a new husk and 2 new angels. We already got Providence, a new husk feels right since it's been a while since we got one, and I am a firm believe that the angel statue from Limbo and the other layers is gonna be either our new arm OR new enemy. Plz. Give us more Angel lore. I'm on my hands and knees, Hakita, I need to know what they're like. I know we're in Hell so Heaven has far less involvement than if it was the other way around, but I still have to know. I GOTTA KNOW.

SOON™ (this year)

Also felt like talking about this because it's weirdly kinda confusing ? ? ? Looked into the general "soon" of New Blood and at times it's basically like. TOMORROW ? To which I think is not gonna happen if we read the description of In Absentia ΛΟΓΟΣ and how Hakita says they're still working on it (the first level I'd assume), so I dunno if in ONE MONTH they were able to just create the entirety of the Fraud layer that fast, hence why the (this year) addition makes me feel like they're releasing it maybe before the holiday season ? Who knows ! :P With the understanding that Fraud had troubles in development which led to the ULTRA_REVAMP update, maybe production got much easier after the enemy rework ? I've no idea honestly. But whatever happens, I'm gonna be there the MOMENT it releases.
