My controversial op hot take is zoro shouldn’t be first mate but nami or usopp should. Nami bc she’s just like, objectively one of the most practical in the crew and someone with authority on this boat needs to be and usopp bc of how his stories keep coming true and I think say an arc, where usopp has to be the captain for a while bc luffy is MIA/KO’D/etc which would make him Actual Captain Usopp for like, a solid 5 mins and I think that’s Neat.
#op hell#one piece#I like zoro as a character but imo he’s dogshit in a position of a authority#man hasn’t even lead a group project at school before PLUS he’s naturally more aloof/solo so WHY do we let him try to MANAGE GROUP DYNAMICS?#nami is my like realistic pick but usopp has narrative potential#I just don’t like the idea of a first mate just being the First Guy or the Best Friend like…. it’s an authority position on a ship#how about having someone who even kNOWS HOW SHIPS WORK BE THE BACK UP LEADER???#for one pirates tended not to EVEN HAVE FIRST MATES the 2nd was usually the QUARTERMASTER#who is usually in charge of things like HR AND SUPPLIES#SO DO WE REALLY SEE ZORO DOING ANY OF THAT?????#zoro in HR is my worst nightmare

An overview of the Philips MP5 from the outside from an engineer’s perspective
I’ll explain everything in the most basic and interesting way as I can I’ll go over everything on all 4 sides of the monitor, if people like this then we’ll take a look at the insides of the monitor as well
Front View:
1: Mount release button. Pushing this button unlocks the internal mechanism that locks onto the quick release mount.
2: Speaker. I have tape over it to try to make it not as loud, I think it goes without saying that all the sound the monitor produces comes through here
3: Mains AC indicator light. Just an LED to tell you if the the monitor is plugged into mains power
4: Battery indicator light. Lights up green when the monitor is running on battery or when there is mains power and the battery is fully charged. Lights up red when the battery is charging
5: Power indictor light. Lights up when the monitor is turned on
6: Power button. White rubbery plastic button that turns the monitor on or off
7: Alarms Off/ Paused indicator light. A red led that lights up if alarms are paused or off to remind hospital personnel that they are off/ paused.
8: Alarm indictor LEDs. Flash red or yellow or stay solid red, yellow, or blue depending on the severity of the alarm. Blue is low priority things like no pulse oximeter connected, no ecg leads connected, low battery, or can’t analyze. Yellow is medium priority alarms, things like HR, SPO2, RR, Temp, BP going out of the set alarm minimum or maximum, minor arrhythmias (skipped beats, Afib, tachycardia, bradycardia, etc…) Red is high priority (the sound that turns on most people who are into resus) things like: SVT, Extreme tachycardia, extreme bradycardia, VFIB, V-Tach, Asystole
And then there’s obviously the large 8 inch touch screen LCD. This one is a resistive touch screen as opposed to the capacitive touch screens in most phones, tablets and other devices. There’s 2 reasons for using a resistive touch screen: 1 is that they are far more reliable and durable compared to capacitive touch screens, capacitive touch screens usually always use glass where as resistive screens use plastic. The second reason is that resistive touch screens can be pressed with anything so it makes it really easy to use with thick gloves, isolation suits, the back of pen, or anything else, as opposed to capacitive touch screens which require the thing pushing it to have natural capacitance like human flesh.
Right side view
1: IEC mains input. This is where the power goes into the monitor, I’ve read the whole service manual and it says that in order to comply with regulations you must use a hospital grade power cord. I was lucky the monitor came with a hospital rated power cable but to be honest it makes no difference what type of cable you use for home use the regulations are just there because they are required in hospitals. There isn’t much of a difference between hospital grade and regular service rated power cables. A hospital grade power cable is usually 16AWG-3 SJTW (16 American wire gauge, 3 conductors, Service Junior Thermoplastic Weather resistant insulation) whereas standard household rated IEC cables are 18AWG-3 SJT (18 American wire gauge, 3 conductors, Service Junior Thermoplastic insulation (not rated for wet locations)). This monitor has a universal switch mode power supply in it, which means it can take any voltage from 100 volts AC to 240 volts AC at 50 to 60 Hz frequency, which is the range of all electrical systems worldwide. I’m surprised it has a switch mode supply in it, they tend to be very noisy (produce a lot of electromagnetic interference that interferes with the sensitive components in the rest of the device) and they generally aren’t used because they don’t always provide full isolation from mains or they don’t provide as much isolation as a standard medical rated transformer-rectifier supply.
2: On board recorder. This is a 50mm monochrome thermal printer. It can print status reports, ECG recordings, and a few other things. I haven’t tested it because the paper is hard to find for a decent price.
3. Battery compartment. This compartment holds an M4605A Lithium-ion 10.8 volt battery. (That part number is probably a roll over from the HP Viridia line of patient monitors because Phillips bought the rights to all of HPs patents for the Viridia line so a lot of the stuff for intellivue and Viridia are backwards compatible. The only reason I say that is an HP part number is because they really liked to put an A at the end of almost every model number of something they made) The monitor didn’t come with a battery so I bought a used one for $20, a new one directly from Philips is $700. The 6th pic is the battery itself, it has a built in state of charge display. It’s a 65 watt hour (6000mAh) capacity battery using 18650 cells. The capacity of mine has dropped to 5700mAh. The monitor uses about 1.1 amps from the battery during normal operation so I can get about 5 and half hours of battery life.
Left side view
1: Output for Non invasive blood pressure (blood pressure cuff) pretty simple, but interestingly after reading the service manual, you can stick a hex key in the slot and actually replace just that connector
2: SPO2 input (pulse oximeter) input for a pulse oximeter, fast SPO2 is a trademark of Masimo referring to some kind of “special” technology they use. (I put that in quotes because I’m pretty sure it’s the same as all other pulse oximeters) you can get a few different types of pulse oximeters for Philips monitors. There’s 2 types of finger pulse oximeters, clip on, or adhesive/ Velcro (the Velcro and adhesive ones tend to be disposable and more often used for long term monitoring or for pediatric patients, they can also go on a toe) There are also ones that clip onto the lobe of the ear, but they aren’t used very much, probably due to not as good accuracy.
3: ECG input. This connector is the input for ECG electrodes. It’s a 12 pin connector (service manual actually gives a pinout) the reason it’s 12 pins is because this connector can support 3, 5, 6, 10, and 12 lead cables. This connector is used on all Philips monitors, and it’s actually backwards compatible with Hewlett-Packard/ Agilent technologies Viridia line of patient monitors (something of which my grandfather who recently passed away built prototype parts for when they were being developed) I think Philips bought the right to use all of HP’s patented connectors and hardware for patient monitors that also includes the classic alarm sounds I much prefer over the standard ISO alarm sounds. The modern intellivue line of Philips monitors evolved from the HP/ Agilent Viridia line of patient monitors.
Rear side view
This is where things get interesting because this is different on a lot of MP5 monitors, that’s due to this rear I/O being a card inside the monitor that can be swapped out. This card happens to be the full configuration card with every I/O option available for this monitor.
1. USB port. Used to connect a mouse and keyboard, or a barcode reader. The barcode reader can be used to quickly scan barcodes on medications so they can be input into the huge amount of info the monitor can collect. It can also be used to scan patient wrist bands or staff ID cards
2. Nurse call relay output. This is where things get a little more technical. This 3.5mm jack is connected to a relay that turns on every time an alarm goes off. What’s a relay? It’s basically a switch that can be turned on and off with an electromagnet, this allows me to wire up just about anything so that when an alarm goes off it turns on too. This was a really interesting part in the service manual because it said to change the relays configuration from normally open to normally closed you literally have to desolder a surface mount resistor from the PCB. I’ve never seen a service manual say to desolder something to change its configuration.
3. RJ45 LAN Ethernet Jack: this is used to connect the monitor to the hospitals network infrastructure including data storage servers, patient data servers, others monitors on the network, telemetry consoles, and much more. I’ve done a little playing around with this but unfortunately haven’t gotten very far because I’m currently taking care of my grandmother at her house and my servers that I have to mess around with things like this are at my house so I can’t play around with any of the software options currently.
4: Video Output: Just a standard VGA video output to connect it to a larger external monitor. My old monitor had this but it wasn’t setup on the stock configuration and I had to tap into it with a molex connector on the motherboard.
5: Ground connection for ECG: This is used for testing and calibration but if I had to guess it’s on the outside of the monitor and not hidden away inside for compliance reasons.
6: Mains earth connection. This is also here for testing purposes. The inside of the monitor has a metal frame that serves 2 purposes. 1 is added rigidity to help it stand up to being dropped and abused (which happens a lot in hospitals because things are so high stress all the time). And 2 is EMI shielding. EMI is electromagnetic interference, basically all the different frequencies of radio waves that are constantly surrounding us. The amplification circuitry responsible for amplifying the tiny electrical signals put out by the heart that are tiny fractions of a single volt is quite venerable to any interference because the electromagnetic waves can have higher power than the signal you’re trying to amplify thus making the signal appear noisy (when it looks like it has a bunch of fuzz or something instead of a thin line). To counter EMI we can use the idea of a faraday cage. A faraday cage is a simple concept, you surround whatever you are trying to protect from EMI in an electrically conducive material (usually some kind of metal) and you connect that thing to the ground (quite literally shoving a wire in the ground). This works because all electromagnetic waves want to find their way back to the earth somehow, so by putting our sensitive circuits inside a grounded metal box all the electromagnetic waves that hit the metal will immediately be absorbed and led to the earth where they want to go completely bypassing our sensitive circuitry. According to the electrical code of pretty much any country, any electric device with metal exposed to touch must have a connection to mains earth. That’s why most cords have 3 wires instead of just the 2 you normally need to complete a circuit. This connection to mains earth is because in almost all mains electrical systems the neutral wire (the wire that the electrons return to the source from) is the earth or is at least bonded to the earth. That means that if you touch a live wire and you are standing on the ground the electricity can travel through you and electrocute you. Sometimes you don’t even have to be touching the ground to still get a shock and that’s due to the natural capacitance your body has. You are capacitively coupled to the electrical grid at all times and that means you can draw tiny amounts of current from your body, not anywhere near enough to do any damage to your organs as it’s only a few micro amps, but this is the reason for an ECG signal appearing noisy if the filters aren’t set correctly. If the live wire connected to the device accidentally makes contact with the metal housing then there’s a possibility you could be electrocuted because you are touching ground or at least capacitively coupled to it. To counter this is that green ground/ protective earth wire that is connected to the devices metal housing will carry the current back to earth because it is much less resistive than you and electrons always take the path or least resistance. This will result in a short circuit and will trip a circuit breaker but it’s much better than being electrocuted.
That was a long one but I hope you learned something. I think I’ll do a walkthrough of the software side of things and a look at the parts inside. Throughout this whole thing I referenced the service manual several times. A service manual is a manual provided to a repair technician that explains how to, setup, test, calibrate, and take apart the device, and sometimes they go as deep as including the schematics of all the circuits in the device. These days they are pretty hard to get your hands on because companies don’t want you to fix your stuff and would rather you just buy a new one. However I found the service manual for the MP5 very easily with 1 Google search. It’s about 300 pages long and is filled with information about these monitors that not even most health care professionals know. It lists the passwords for all different operating modes in the software, how to connect the thing to a network, pinouts of all connectors, info on how to test it, a whole section dedicated to how to take the thing apart, a list of the part number of each component in case you need to order a new one, the layout of the channels for the short range radio module inside, and so much more.

Fantasy Guide to Ships, Boats and Nautical Lingo
Of all the ways to travel in fantasy and historical novels, there are two favoured ones: horses and ships. But I covered the horses already so here we have some ship terminology and kinds of ships.
Common Boat Terms
Aft/Stern - The back of a ship.
Bow - The bow is the front part of the ship, the pointy part or the place where Kate Winslet stood on in Titanic.
Port - The left side of the ship
Starboard - The right side of the ship
Windward - The wind the direction is blowing.
Hull- outside of the ship
Leeward - Or sometimes called the lee. This is the opposite direction of the wind is blowing
Boom - A horizontal pole extending from the base of the main mast. It adjusted toward the wind direction in order to harness the wind for the sails.
Rudder - The rudder is a flat piece of wood below the ship, used to steer the ship. It is connected to the wheel of the ship.
Tacking - A common sailing maneuver that involves turning the bow through the wind, to change the wind direction from one side of the ship to the other, making the boom move.
Underway- This is when the ship is moving
Astern- The ship is moving backwards
Amidships- Middle of the boat
Topside- when you move from the lower decks to the upper deck
Compartments of the ship
Most ships would have compartments inside the hull and underneath the deck.
Cabins- most war ships and merchant ships would only have one or two main cabin occupied by the captain and higher crew.
Galley- The kitchen on board the ship. The galley would be fitted with tables and cabinets. Galleys were built in such a way that they were more resistant to the heaving of the ship. Most galleys were built with special stoves to stop people from colliding with them and things from spilling out of pots and pans.
Wardroom- some ships are built with a common room for the crew. The wardroom acted as a common room as well as a dining room. It would usually be conjoined with the galley.
Sick Bay- is the compartment of the ship that is given over to the injured and sick. The sick bay would hold the medicines and medical devices and would often be under lock and key.
Hold- This will be the largest compartment in the ship were the cargo or the ship's weapons.
Crew and Positions aboard the Ship
Captain
When we think of captains we imagine them as blackhearted slave drivers (something akin to managers in the customer service industry) but on further research you will find that is not true. There are two kinds of Captains you find in history. Pirate captains and Legitimate Captains. Pirate captains were elected by their merit in battle and dedication to the crew. They were considered equal to the crew, only taking full charge during raids and battles. In the Navy or any legal-bound ship, captains were selected by rank and wealth. There was no equality between captain and crew as in pirate ships. Legal ships were Capitalists and the Pirates were Democratic.
First Mate
First Mate is the captain's deputy. They act as captain when the captain cannot. This was mainly seen in Navies and merchant ships as Pirates usually placed their quartermaster as their deputies.
Quartermaster
The Quartermaster was in charge of ensuring that the ship ran smoothly, rather like the ship's HR manager. The Quartermaster was in charge of supplies and had certain powers such as being able to punish the crew for minor infractions.
Sailing Master
These were officers in charge of piloting the ship. They would have to be educated enough to read a map and was a much desired position because it was a fair paying job. Pirates usually kidnapped sailing masters from ships they attacked to use aboard their own ships.
Gunner
Gunners were the overseers of any many qualified to load and fire guns. They were in charge of aiming cannons and making sure the crew were safely using guns. Most the guns were loaded by young boys called powder monkeys.
Boatswain
Boatswains or junior officers would act as supervisors, watching over the crew as they did their duties. If things were not going well they reported to the captain or quartermaster to punish the crew.
Surgeons
Surgeons handled any diseases and wounds. Since being at sea limited the amount of medicine available. Most ship's surgeons were forced to cut off limbs to avoid infection pike gangrene. Surgeons may not always be found on ships. Cooks or carpenters were often pressed to do amputations: meat was meat and cutting was cutting.
Cooks
All ships needed somebody to cook. Navies and merchant ships would often have trained cooks while on pirate ships it was just a crewmember who was handy in the kitchen.
Kinds of Ship
(Not a complete list, may post more later.)
Brig- A brig is the ship that one most thinks of when you think of a ship. The brig is a large vessel, set with a pair of square-rigged masts. Brigs were fast ships and highly maneuverable. They were used as merchant ships and warships.
Galley- The galley is propelled via oars. The hull is long and slender and most of them featured larger sails. Galleys often were rowed by slaves and used in war.
Galleon- Galleons were large ships, built with multiple decks, carrying three or more masts with square raised stern. The Galleon was usually rigged with square sails on the fore-mast and main-masts.
Caravel- The caravel was a small ship with triangular sails, famed for its manoeuvrability and speed.
Longship- The longships were the ships of the Vikings. They were slender ships, narrow. They were able to keep afloat in shallow waters as well as the deep sea. Longships were able to reverse quickly, a very important skill. The longship was a warship, a raider's ship propelled by oars.
Carrack- the carrack was a large ship, often built with mass cargo holds making the most popular ship to go on long voyages on. The carrack had three or four masts.
Cog- This ship was a large vessel, the hull wide and large. The ship is propelled by a great single sail flown from a tall mast.
Junk- The junk or Chinese junk was a kind of coastal or river ship used as merchant ships, pleasure ships and sometimes houseboats. They are small ships and made with battened sails rather resembling wings.
Trireme- the trireme was a slender ship set with three banks of oars pulled by one man each. The trireme had a concave hull and usually had an underwater ram at the prow of the ship.

Prepping for a Ritual
So since I am doing these things as we speak I thought I would go through some ritual things that I find useful, for anyone that feels overwhelmed or unprepared for ritual work. I know tumblr and tiktok have pushed a lot of easy jar spells on us, but there really is something more to a ritual setting, even a simple one. And as it goes without saying, this is my personal idea of a guide and everyone is entitled to their own opinion and practice.
Get your supplies ready the day before the ritual. ESPECIALLY if you are going outside/somewhere outside your home. Collect all the things you will need and put them together. This will give you a day to remember all the things you forgot before it's time, instead of in the middle of your ritual
Choose what you are going to wear the day before, too. Some people take aesthetic very seriously but others dont. Either way, give some thought to what you are wearing. Is that crystal necklace good for what you are doing? Are those pants comfortable enough to sit for 30 minutes in? Comfortability is just as important as presentation for ritual, so dont wear that corset that hurts you after 15 minutes. You will need to focus on more important things.
Foot wear is also super underrated. Are you hiking 10 minutes into the forest to find a ritual spot? Wear boots. Are you in your house and want to go barefoot? Make absolutely sure you are not going to step on a ritual tool and make yourself bleed, or curse to some gods about the existence of legos in the middle of your ritual
Make some stuff for a cleansing/power bath. I usually assemble ingredients and things day before, then go to bed, and do a quick ritual bath before the actual ritual. Steep a hair rinse or charm a fancy body wash before hand so you dont have to focus on that spell, too.
Do a tarot reading/your preferred divination, before bed the day before you do a ritual. It can be quick or extensive, it doesnt matter. But it can be good to get some guidance before you are gearing up for a spell or ritual, and have some time to think about it before you are minutes away from it.
Prepare food and water, once again especially if you are going outside. Rituals can take a lot out of you depending on what you are doing, and food and drink are very easy and quick ways to help ground yourself if you are shaky or need help coming back to a relaxed state. If you are struggling, boiling pasta or microwaving stuff is the last thing on your mind, or maybe even your ability. So have some fruit snacks or granola bars or cookies or something-- easy to take and easy to eat-- with you. Trust me, this is more important than a lot of people realize. It's a good after-ritual practice and one you should be ready for
Think about your intent and purpose. Set aside some time day-before to do this, maybe 30 min to 1 hr I would say. Maybe make an entry in your BOS if you are the journaling type. This serves 2 functions: one is to charge your intent before the spell. It will give you more oomph and precision in your spell casting, or more prepared behavior if you are speaking to gods. Think about what you want to ask them, what you want them to know, how much respect you should give them, or what they may ask of you. What are you willing to do for them, and what are you not?
The second function is that it gives you time to back out of something. Not all spells are meant to be cast, and especially not if you are in a high emotion before it. Give yourself a day to prepare, an hour to think over, why am I doing this? SHOULD I be doing this even? There is nothing wrong with changing your mind. Doing things impulsively in magic isn't typically beneficial to the caster most of the time. Think through potential consequences, too. How could it back fire? How could it go right but in the wrong way? Is there a better way to get what you want? Can you add a caveat, or a time limit on the spell? Are you using parts of a closed practice and not really thought about it before now?
If you are doing spell work in the out-of-your-house-space-land, even if it is just like, in your appartment parking lot, the park down the street or even your own backyard, make sure someone somewhere knows about it. I know not everyone is out of the broom closet, but even if you just have to tell your friends you are stargazing or something, make sure SOMEONE knows and has a check in time for you. There are creeps and terrible people everywhere, and not to spook anybody, but doing magic can often attract animals or any assortment of beings who want to watch/investigate you. I have been given a heart attack by a baby antelope at dawn before. I have also been given a heart attack by a forest spirit asking wtf I was doing there. I know it doesnt exactly feel witchy to have your cellphone crammed in your waistband, but trust me, better safe than sorry. Be it humans or otherwise, doing magic in the dark in total secret is just not realistic to your safety. Take someone with you and have them wait in the car or around the corner if you can. Once again, make sure someone, somewhere, has a set time to call or come get you in, incase you get kidnapped or fae-napped. Your wellbeing is a much higher priority than any magic spell.
Also familiarize yourself with nearby wildlife. Even if you are in the city, check out what raccoon eyes look like in flashlight, or maybe if your suburb is prone to stray cats or dogs. Check out a rabies registry as well, so you know what kind of risk you are looking at around such animals. Rabid animals are actually more prone to being unafraid of human contact and will readily let a person touch them. Do NOT interact with wild animals. No, they are not a sign or a gift from your god. Most animals are curious about magic in general, but that doesnt make them not wild. Do not interact. If you are in a less populated space, you should also check out what kind of wild life is native to your area and how dangerous they are. Deer will startle themselves into you like getting hit by a BMW and bears and cougars can be active day or night, as well as Bobcats, snakes, or coyotes. Check out your local wildlife center for advice on how to handle what lives in your area
(Last outdoors advice, I promise) also check out what kind of myths and legends existed on the land you are on, ESPECIALLY if you live in north america. Knowing who's land you are on should be important to your practice anyway, and knowing what kind of creatures may be out there may save you some distress later. Indigenous cultures should be respected, and their tales can tell you what's around your area. And I dont care where the hell you live, if you hear whistling in the darkness/forests, it is one of several things coming to get you and none of them are good. Get gone and DONT whistle back. Or at all. No whistling guys. Bad.
For indoor rituals, make sure you wont be disturbed. Much like meditation, rituals are very dependent on focus and intent. Interruptions can mess with your outcome.
More indoor advice, checkout your lighting and ventilation well before you do your ritual. For instance, my altar is in a walk in closet-- there is no way in hell I am burning 4 candles and an incense in that room. I would have to do it in my living room or bedroom where there are windows, or find a way to eliminate the candles. Is the room dark enough to fit your ritual? Is it light enough that you can read your notes? (also make notes/write up a copy of the spell, it helps so much) Make sure you have enough light to see what you are doing properly.
I am a big advocate of "do not over cleanse your life, stop over cleansing" however, if that is something you do a lot of, make sure all your tools and whatnot are cleansed and prepared day before. You can shave a 2hr ritual down to 30 min if you get all of your prep work done day before, which is nice. And it once again gives you time to say "shit I forgot that one thing I need to cleanse" an hour later and still not interrupt your ritual because it is day before.
If you are an of-legal-age type person and doing some drug/alcohol part of your magic, make double sure you have food, water, and a buddy system. You may not need a designated driver if you aren't going out of your house, but you still need a designated sober person to make sure you dont like, astral travel out of your body and get replaced with a pod person, or get hurt trying to cast a circle with a ritual knife while high. Know your limits well before you use them in ritual and, I cannot emphasize this enough, have a friend to keep you under scrutiny incase something goes wrong and you need help.
If you are having the OTHER kind of must-be-of-age type of ritual, be sure your partner is well informed. Maybe have a dress rehearsal so you are both on the same page about mechanics and consent. Speed run through the general timing and motions, and talk about what each of you expect to get out of the ritual. Is it for bonding? Or are you using the energy to try to charge something? Is it for fertility? Are you both good to have ritualized sex (I know that seems like an obvious question, but you would be surprised by how many partners clam up about sexual things to try to not disappoint their partner). If you are a witch and your partner is not, be sure they know what to expect, and that they 100% want to do it even though it's not necessarily their practice and not just to be a people pleaser. If you havent done anything like this before either, tell them that, too. Honestly is 100% required here
And lastly, keep your cool. It's easy to get over excited or over anxious about this kind of thing, but honestly with a little prep time you have a high change of doing awesome. And even if you dont? That's okay too. Everyone makes mistakes, we all learn from those mistakes, and every single experience you acquire will level you up until you are the best at being you. Do what feels right, trust your gut, do some reading, and keep calm and witchy on.

Hi! What do you think of Hange? I'm curious about your opinion since your analysis are always interesting! I hope that you're doing well 🤗
Thank you so much for your ask. I’m happy to talk about Hange since she is one of my favorite characters in Attack on Titan and even though I still really enjoy the manga, I really think she is one of the characters which was done dirty by Yams, like she did not need to die like that. AT ALL.
Anyway, I love Hange it isn't obvious and she is really one of my favorite characters in AoT particularly because of her intelligence.
I think we all agree that Hange is a genius. She ranked 11/10 in intelligence and she ranks high up there with Erwin and Armin in terms of her planning skills. For some reason though, in the anime, they tend to put in the spotlight Erwin and Armins genius in particular because Erwin for one is a brilliant strategist and Armin is incredibly detail oriented and brilliant strategist and I don't think I have to point these out because they've been proven time and time again in canon.
Hange’s a different type of genius. She has a special kind of genius which tends to be really overlooked. It's a subtler type than what we see with Armin and Erwin.
Sure, she has the mad scientist and the research vibe but I don't think these tropes encompass her genius as a whole. Hange is not necessarily a genius as a scientist or a researcher. In fact her skill as a researcher is only an extension of her actual genius.
She’s a genius at logistics and plan execution.
The thing is, most of Hange's intelligence is only subtly shown in her sheer mastery of logistics.
Her section in general is in charge of logistics and research which is INCREDIBLY important. She's literally logistics royalty but logistics is so underrated even in real life that her genius is so glossed over in most of canon. and she ends up reduced to a mad scientist comic relief character.
It's understandable because the complexity of logistics is so subtle that we tend to ignore it in our everyday life.
It's not obvious in canon but the details are there in the type of work Hange does, the mission planning. In fact, it’s not shown in detail in the anime since they only ever showed us one full expedition. It’s been confirmed in the video game , the survey corps generally did a lot of base building and creating supply chains where they could refill gas. Although Erwin gives the final say on the overall strategy, who do you think considers the logistics on what bases should go where? What weapons to bring? The sound bombs, the flash bombs? What weapons to put where? Where to put the bases? What types of bases to build?
Who do you think considered the boring details like transportation and equipment? Who considers the small "hows?" in the grand scheme of messages.
Hange.
A lot of the shit which Hange actually did in the first season was pretty much glossed over in exchange for fighting scenes. We get the mini arc about her capturing titans and showing them to Eren. Who figured out the plan with the exploding barrels and arrows to capture titans?
Hange.
Erwin plans the big "how's" and Hange has always planned the smaller "how's."
Just think of the 57th Expedition. Literally no one cares about the logistics which Hange so carefully planned out. I had actual friends who even forgot that Hange was there in the 57th expedition. Even when she was the one who loaded all the barrels and prepared them in the forest when they were to capture the female titan. She’s the one who plans where the refilling stations are too.
We get major exposition on Erwin’s plans then get major exposition on Levi’s fighting skills but we don’t get much exposition on the refilling stations or the barrels because really who wants to know about that.
(They show more of this in the video game tbh.)
So, although Erwin is the mastermind behind plans. Hange plays a huge part in execution by deciding which tools or which weapons should go where in the execution of plans. Tbh, I honestly wouldn’t even be surprised if Hange was the one who modified the colored guns for the long range scouting formation Erwin planned out.
Proof in Canon aside from the 57th expedition
During the female titan arc, she had the logistics heavy idea of the barrel cannons set up around the Stohess district. It didn’t work in the end but a lot of thought came into placing the cannons there and Hange still managed to trap the female titan for a while.
This is a small detail but who do you think decided how to transport crystallized Annie? Hange’s squad, possibly Hange made the final call.
When the titans appeared in Wall Rose, who tries to figure out how they got in? It was mostly Hange because Hange knows how shit works, Hange knows what logistics could go into infiltrating a wall, what logistics go into transporting. The reason why Hänge actually comes back with all the theories because she is familiar with the minute details in executing plans. Erwin plans on a large scale, Hange plans the small details that go into the execution.
That was also the reason why she guessed probably that Reiner and the others were going to go to the forest and stay overnight. Hange generally plans boring things it was only natural that she would be able to predict their plan to stay the night in the forest better than Erwin.
In the uprising arc, Hange didn’t do much war strategy or fighting. Where did her skills go? Into PR issues, into she did know how to get a town together without fighting and how to get them to cooperate. The boring part but still very important part of the uprising.
We were faced with a situation on how to fight the armored titan and the logistics? Who answers that "how" by making the thunder spears?
HANGE.
TBH, I honestly think that Hänge as commander was more fitting towards season 4 because with the building of ports and the development needed for Paradis, they needed someone who knew how things work by the small details because by then, everything was run by technology. They needed someone who mastered transportation, schedules and engineering designs to make things work, not someone who can lead. I think Hange probably could have done a better job than Erwin. I can't even think of anyone who could have done a better job than Hange in leading the survey corps post Season 3.
Hange's works aren't grand but they're important, necessary but they're not flashy and that's why I don't think she gets the praise she deserves. Although it’s complex and requires a special type of genius to plan and figure out, it’s takes a certain perspective to appreciate.
She is the master of logistics, the master of literally every conventionally boring yet necessary thing in life. The equivalent of this in real life would probably be like how she doesn't plan the grand parts of events like the program of an event, or the nitty gritty content or the marketing. She'll be planning the food, the number of tables and chairs, the invitations. She'll hold everything together by the small details people take for granted.
In a company, she probably wouldn't lead a marketing team, HR, CEO which are the stuff people usually consider. She would probably head the supply chain or the manufacturing plant which actually makes the goods people market but most people tend to consider stuff quality by the marketing more than anything.
Logistics and small details when it comes to execution are not flashy and even when writing fiction they tend to be glossed over. And I guess, this is the reason why Hange never got the recognition she deserved.
Because really, in real life, who praises the person who plans the supply chain? Who praises the person who plans the execution after the leader announces the big plan? Who praises the person who thinks up transportation options? Who thinks up furniture? Food in events?
And that's the beauty in logistics it's a subtly complex part of life that looks so simple and boring yet requires a certain type of genius to execute perfectly.
That's why I consider Hange --- who has been shown in canon to have mastered it--- a special type of genius, a more subtle genius, and a more subtle brains and I love her for it.

OoC: The Big, Long Post of Where the Hell I’ve Been
Before I begin, I want to apologize for just disappearing. I’ve had some contact with a couple of people here and there within these past months, but not as much as typical when I’m active.
This post is to just tell you all where I’ve been and what’s been going on with me. I’ve told a couple of people a couple of things here and there, but I never really got too deep into it.
I’m going to keep most of this under a Keep Reading for a couple of reasons. The first reason is because, as the title suggests, this is going to be really long. The second is because of some of the really heavy things I’m going to be talking about, and I think it’s best if you read at your own discretion rather than have me splash this across your dashboards without any warning. So, please, see the tags before reading.
OK. Here we go...
Back in March, I got sick. I have no idea what I had, but I just know that I was sick and that it lingered for a considerable length of time.
I had had four or five shifts in a row, and I had one more to go before I was to have a couple of days off. The morning of that last shift, I woke up with a scratchy throat. I didn’t really think much of it because I typically feel like I’m sick when I first wake up (one of the problems that comes with my insomnia). However, a couple of hours later, as I was getting ready to head into work, I still had the scratchy throat. In addition, I had begun to have a really intense headache.
That’s when I got a group text from my boss telling us to stay home if we had a cough or sore throat. I sent him a direct text and told him what was going on and we agreed it would be best for me to stay home.
The scratchy throat, which later evolved to include a cough, lasted for nearly two months. The headache also lasted that long. And when I say that, I mean that every single day for two months, I had a bad headache that never went away and only fluctuated slightly in how severe it was for that day.
Neither my boss, nor the other managers, were taking me seriously. That first week I was home, I was trying to rest and every single day, I was getting texts with questions like, “Hey, you’ll be in for your next shift, right?” or, “Why don’t you just go get tested? Easiest thing in the world!”
No matter how many times I explained my situation — medical professionals told me not to come in for a test because supplies were scarce and they were only testing people with emergency symptoms. In addition, I was told, “If you come here and you have the virus, you’ll be putting other people at risk. If you don’t have it, and you come here, you risk exposing yourself to it. You just need to stay home and monitor your symptoms until they either get severe or until your cough and sore throat go away.” Also, mind you, I use public transportation, which people were especially advised not to use if you were feeling sick to keep the virus from spreading, so... How exactly did they want me to get to a testing facility? — they always acted like I just didn’t want to get tested. My friend that helped get me the job kept sending me articles about new testing sites and kept arguing with me about it. He also kept telling me that I should get tested so that I could be cleared to come back to work if I didn’t have it. At this point, I was feeling like a broken record, and I had told him loads of times that even if I didn’t have the virus, I still felt like shit and there was no way I’d be able to stand all day, anyway.
Finally, after weeks of this back-and-forth, my boss told me to contact HR. They put me on a retroactive leave of absence. However, it still has not been approved and it will most likely get denied, which means that I will not be paid for the time I was out of work. And I only just went back to work two weeks ago.
In addition to being out so long, my hours have been severely cut. I worked two days the first week I was back. Then this past week, I had no hours at all. This week, I only work four hours on Saturday. It’s hard for me not to feel like this is intentional, considering the fact that I wasn’t taken seriously the whole time I was sick and they were acting like I was just being dramatic or needlessly cautious (also, apparently I work with a bunch of medical experts because even when I was telling them information I got from the CDC, they were still telling me that that wasn’t right 🙄). My first day back, one of the managers asked me how I was doing, and asked me what I had been feeling. When I mentioned the severe headache that wouldn’t go away, he chuckled and went, “That’s not even a symptom of the virus!” And he very clearly didn’t believe me when I explained to him that it is, in fact, a symptom that many people who were confirmed to have had it had reported. Just because it’s not one of the more common symptoms doesn’t mean it’s not a symptom.
I am now drowning in debt from being out of work so long, in addition to not receiving any hours. Our rent was still being collected this whole time, and I had to pay April and May’s rent together in one go because I was still quarantined in April and couldn’t make it to my bank. This almost completely wiped out my funds. My gas company isn’t charging late fees, but they have still been charging regularly every month and I don’t even know how much I owe them at this point because I can’t pay it, anyway, so I stopped looking. Last I checked, it was over $300. I’m assuming that it’s closer to $600 now. My internet is going to most likely be shut off at the end of the month. There have been days where I was afraid to go buy groceries because of how low my funds are. I have had to accept help from many people, a couple of them were almost complete strangers who came out of nowhere and helped me out significantly.
The stress is getting to me terribly. I have spent so many days these past months living in a fog where nothing feels real anymore. I think I’m shedding hair more than usual, and every time I wash my hair, there are clumps left in the shower. My insomnia is magnified, and now with the heat of it being summer, that’s just going to get worse because my room gets substantially hot. And because of my financial situation, I’m trying to run the air conditioner as little as possible and only run my fans. My appetite has been affected and I often just eat once a day with maybe a little snack here or there.
Things got so bad for me psychologically that I reached out to my Employee Help Line, provided to people who work for the company I work for. I tend not to call numbers like that because of bad experiences in the past, but I needed to talk to someone. There was back and forth between myself and several counselors for two or three weeks, and they tried to get me an appointment with a therapist over the phone.
The Employee Help Line counselors were all wonderful people. The therapists I tried to schedule appointments with? Not so much. The first one canceled on me by email just an hour before my session was supposed to begin. The second one also canceled on me by email the night before my session.
The third one was a truly mystifying experience. So much so that she gets her own paragraph. Not only did our session only last about thirty minutes (instead of the forty-five to fifty minutes that it should have been), but she gave me such advice as, “Just don’t worry so much.” And her entire tone made me feel like I couldn’t speak to her because I felt the need to justify everything I was feeling or explain myself. Then it took an even more bizarre turn when I Googled her to see her hours of operation (I felt so uncomfortable with her that I wanted to call and leave a message to cancel our next appointment instead of talking to her directly) and found a website, full of evidence, that she was an animal abuser and that she had been investigated for insurance fraud for charging patients for sessions that never happened or double-billing them. I also found a website of reviews and there were so many that talked about how unprofessional she was (smoking in a closed office during sessions, inviting patients to stay the night at her place, charging someone for two months worth of sessions that never took place because they canceled after just seeing her once). And she told me she was mailing me paperwork which I haven’t received yet that I need to fill out and mail back (with what postage, I wonder, since I can’t afford to buy a book of stamps?) instead of letting me do that electronically.
After that whole experience with those three therapists, I decided to stop trying to get into therapy for now. And, for the record, this is exactly why I’m afraid to go back to therapy because my bad experiences far outweigh the good ones. In this time, too, the Employee Help Line people had been trying to find solutions to my funding problem. Absolutely none of what they found was good for me. I either didn’t qualify, or they weren’t accepting new applicants, or some other thing kept me from being able to use whichever service.
And there’s one more thing... I’ve been alone this entire time. My brother, whom I live with, went to visit a friend of his before things got bad. He was only supposed to be gone for the weekend, but then I got sick the day before he was going to come back home. And then his friend’s state went into lockdown before I started to feel any better. So he has been stuck there, and I’ve been living alone and dealing with all of this alone this whole time. Don’t get me wrong, I have friends who are checking in on me and who are trying to help me however they can — and my brother and I have been in contact as much as possible — but it’s not the same as having someone physically present. I’m the very definition of an introvert, so it doesn’t usually bother me, but there have been times where I greatly needed someone physically here for me and nobody was able.
And that’s why I’ve been gone for so long. I’ve probably even forgotten some stuff, or just haven’t added stuff (like how I have to hand wash all my laundry now because I don’t have a washer or dryer and it isn’t safe to use the laundromat anymore for the time being) because everything has been a tremendous mess and this is already a monster of a post. I’m still not 100% sure when I’ll be back, but I’m definitely coming back. Until then, I’m going to try to be around more often for DMs at least. I love you all and I hope you’re all OK. ⚔️ Spike ⚔️
P.S. If you’ve read to the end of this, thank you for doing so lol. You have a much greater attention span than I do xD. P.P.S. I posted this and then took it down for a second because I realized that I forgot to add tags and this post really, really needs to have tags.

Hosnian System
NRS Ranger
Conference Room
1902 hrs
Phlaxes looked around the table, Captain Namin was on his right and on his left was the Duro Space Station Commander, he tried recalling the name but he gave up after a few moments. Also around the table was, Alek Mauz the Captain of the Air Group, The Tagurta, Captain Anatha Violet Captain of the Theed another Star Cruiser, Captain Gideon Park Captain of the Torrent the third MC-80 Cruiser that made up task force four and the Bothan L.T Commander Ralrost Maldoza. The last person in the room was the hulking Wookie Major Snrykkk. But the empty chair at the head of the table drew everyone's attention.
“I don’t know why I’m here, after last meeting” Assistant to Senate Daline Phlaxes said spiteful
“I don’t know either but I know the Admiral has a reason, so trust in that reason” Captain Namin said calmly
As Thadmin entered the room, and set down a holo transmitter.
The pale red headed man said over the holo.
“Today is the end of the Republic.
The end of a regime that acquiesces to disorder.
At this very moment in a system far from here, the New Republic lies to the galaxy while secretly supporting the treachery of the rogues of the Resistance.
This fierce machine which you have built, upon which we stand will bring an end to the Senate, to their cherished fleet.
All remaining systems will bow to the First Order and will remember this as the last day of the Republic!"
Admiral Thadmin began “13 hours ago his message was transmitted on every channel across the galaxy.” His voice paused and became more serious “The final casualty report are still coming in but what is known is all seven Starhawk Battleships, all 12 Star Cruisers dozens of light cruisers and support craft were all destroyed” Thadmin looked down and paused for a few seconds, causing each person at the table to focus on each of the Admirals words “It, has, been ,confirmed, that, that, I am now the highest ranking Naval Officer in the Fleet.” His words hung their full of the unsure confidence that all people have when responsibility is thrust upon them. Thadmin took a breath and recovered his confidence “That is why I’m issuing Battle Order Number One” Thadmin held up his data pad and read “Make no mistake from now on we are at war. First All New Republic Ships will stay on Yellow Alert for the duration of the Crisis. Second all surviving New Republic Ships shall retreat to Raysho Station to be resupplied and rearmed as soon as possible, Commander, is that possible?” Thadmin looked at Commander Chino who replied,
“Yes sir!”
“Very good, now more than ever we need steady nerves and stout hearts”
“YES SIR!” All the officers around the table shouted synchronized
“Good! Now, Commander Chino, tell us what happened.” Thadmin said sternly as he took a seat
“Yes, sir” Chino said standing up and displaying holographic data “at 21:47 five superlaser bolts entered the Hosnian System, one minute later they impacted Hosian Prime briefly causing a solar singularity three seconds later the bolts impacted all other planets in the Hosian system penetrating to the core and causing almost instant disintegration, At 22:07 the Hosian Prime Singularity collapse.”
“Ok but how did your station survive?” Captain Park said
“Raysho station, primary source of power is solar, so when long range scanners picked up the Superlaser bolts I had all power diverted to the shields. Usually it takes 10 minutes at .8 lightyears to fully charge the station. As far as we could tell the Hosnian Prime Solar Singularity formed it supercharged the shields even though it lasted 15 minutes it was .000005 lightyears away and since all power was diverted to the shields all that solar energy went directly to the shields saving the station. It almost blew out every circuit in Raysho Station.” Commander Chino explained
“Ralrost has the Bothan network picked up anything further information?” Thadmin asked
“Yes, sir, hours before the attack The Resistance engaged a First Order division on Takodana, this caused the First Order to initiate the preemptive strike against the Hosnian system, The Resistance is now currently launching attack against Starkiller base, the super weapon responsible for the destruction of the Hosnian System; however, The Resistance base has been found and The First Order is assembling a Task Force to Count Attack” Maldoza said
“Sir, should we help them?” Alek asked firmly
“I wish we could CAG but our Star Cruisers and Fighter Squadrons to valuable to risk, right now but we are the ONLY defense the New Republic has left” Thadmin said matching Alek’s firmness
“But sir, if they succeed they are going to need help” Alek said
“I know, but we don’t have any craft to spare” Thadmin explained disappointed
“Well, that not entirely true, sir, we have a dozen or so old MG-100 StarFortress Bombers that don't serve us anymore” Commander Chino said
“Ok, once the Torrent and Ranger are recharged and resupplied we will depart to deliver those bombers” Thadmin said “Captain Namin I’m putting you in charge of this one, remember DO NOT RISK OUR CRUISERS.
“Yes, sir” Namin said, accepting the responsibility of the cruisers.
“Excuse me sir, what about the Theed?” Captain Violet asked tentatively
“I’m glad you asked, Captain, A.S Phlaxes” Thadmin said, causing Phlaxes to snap up in his seat “Despite all your flaw, no one knows more nor can fight more effectively in the realm of politics than you, so while we fight the war, we need you to keep the New Republic alive and running, the Theed will escort you to Ryloth, now why Ryloth you might ask” Thadmin said taking the word out of Phlaxes and Violet’s mouth. “We have been attempting to track all surviving senators, the first one is Senator Galbo Sandcha of Ryloth.”
“Understood sir,” Captain Violet said hesitantly
As the meeting continued Joker made his way through the ship until he arrived at the Female Marine barracks he knocked twice. L.t Driver answered the door
“Oh hey Joker,” she said trying to muster a little happiness in her voice
“Hey Lila, I’m just wondering if you're doing alright?” Joker asked
“Oh yeah, I’ll be alright but, it’s just hard to process” Lila said beginning to remove the sadness from her voice
“Did you know, Jawook, well?” Joker asked
“Umm, yeah, yeah I knew him very well, do you want to come in?” Lila asked
“Um, sure, thanks” Joker said
Lila led the way in, Joker noticed the similarities to the Pilot barracks, with each bunk bed being well made and the floor clear of debris, then he began to notice the differences, it appeard of the 12 Bunk beds but only two Foot lockers. He continued to follow Lila to her bunk, which was a top bunk the unit boarding the leftmost wall, when she arrived she moved Jawook’s Ryyk Blade from where it sat on her bunk she then climbed up and sat down. Joker followed her and sat on the top bunk of the opposing unit letting his feet dangle.
“Sorry for the lack of mess” Lila said “There aren't too many Female Marines.
Joker laughed that off and asked “Then whose foot locker is that?”
“Oh thats L.t Jax’s bunk, she's one of the bridge sensor officers but she's on duty now” Lila said, “she moved in once she learned that I was here alone and it's kinda nice to talk to someone”
“I know the feeling,” Joker said before changing the subject “So how did you know Jawook so well?”
“Wait here” Lila said, jumping down and kneeling by her footlocker she pulled out a holo photo and jumped back up and handed it to Joker, Joker looked at it, it showed two Wookies and an older Human Male and a young human toddler. “That’s me” Lila said smiling
“Wow, I didn't know your were so hairy back then” Joker said
“Not the Wookies the Girl” Lila said playful punching Joker dangling leg “This was my Dad’s proudest moment, the day he met Chewbacca,”
“How’d he met Chewbacca” Joker asked
“Well it's a long story but he was Biologist for the Empire on Kashyyyk, he was always kind to the Wookies sneaking in extra food and supplies and such, and he developed a strong friendship with Jawook”
“He sounds like a great guy” Joker said
“Yeah, he is” Lila said smiling “the Wookies really respected my dad for that”
“Wow I could imagine” Joker said
“That picture was taken when the New Republic Liberated Kashyyyk the Wookies vouched for my dad and he was accepted into their culture and he stayed on Kashyyyk using his biology skills to help regrow the Black Forest” Lila said
“Wow that's amazing” Joker said thoroughly enjoying how L.t Driver told the story
“But when I was born, during the Imperial reign Jawook swore that he will protect my dad’s family, my dad took him up on that offer when the New Republic came and the shooting started, My dad hid my mom and I with Jawook until it was over ever since then Jawook has almost felt like my adopted dad, and he helped me get into the Navy, and even brought my name up to Captain Namin for assignment to the Ranger.” She said, beginning to break into tears “I just can’t believe he’s gone, he was always been there for me, and now he no longer will be”
“Hey, Lila,” Joker said laying his hand over her’s “it's going to be alright,”
“It’s easy for you to say that, you can always make Jokes of things and be alright” Lila said wiping tears with her free hand
“Your right, it is easy for me to say, I never had anyone I care about leave me” Joker said his tone softening. “But if you love and honor Jawook, that is a great blessing, because that mean you can love, you can feel positive feelings, sadness is not bad, it is an indicator of love, and that's something I have not experienced so count your blessings” Joker finished with a single tear crawling out.
Lila looked up into Joker’s eyes releasing his hand “aww thanks, Joker, your sweeter than what the rumors said”
“What rumors!?” Joker said contorting his voice in moch offense
Lila laughed it off, Joker jumped down from off the bunk and said “Do you want to grab some caff?”
“Sure, I could use some,” She said, joining him.
As they walked out of the room, Lila linked her arm through Joker’s, Joker lips tilted into a half grin
“L.t Diver you know romantic relationships are forbidden between officers on the same ship!” Joker said spoofing regulations
“I know” Lila said sweeter than Rishi Honey “but if anyone asked, I’ll just say I’m being escorted by my faivor X-Wing Pilot”
“Lila, are you sportsflrting with me?” Joker asked fully knowing she was
“Maybe,” she said with a wink.
