Not "everyone" but there's a pervasive mischaracterization of Lottie as an outgoing popular party girl that seems to be based exclusively on the fact that Courtney Eaton is really, really, really hot. The hints of pre-crash Lottie that we have in canon suggest that she was an introverted, studious girl who disliked popularity drama and probably listened to Hole.

This is more of an r/Yellowjackets problem than something I see on Tumblr, but people wildly overestimate the importance of "mysteries" like "supernatural or rational?" (terms that are being misused in the first place) or "who is pit girl?", when really these kinds of questions are supposed to be either unanswerable or secondary to the cast's psychological struggles.

I mean it's pretty obviously the cop plotline, right? I hate the cop plotline probably a lot less than most viewers do, and I really hate the cop plotline.

10. worst part of fanon

See my answer to 1. There are takes on other characters that are even worse (Laura Lee as a hectoring bigot, Misty as uniquely evil in ways that can't be attributed to any of the other characters, Jackie as a heterosexual, and the like), but not ones that are as widespread.

Blaming the writers for problems that are known to be the fault of production or network executives.

Hello, Sine!

I'm doing a horror movie tournament and The silence of the lambs is a contender right now. I was talking with one of my friends and they said they didn't like the movie because of the obvious transphobia and it's completely valid. I don't like it either but I mean, the times were different then and there was a lot of ignorance.

And of course, it's not an excuse but the movie's already made and there's nothing they can really take back.

What are thoughts on this?

I respectfully disagree with your friend, but it's their prerogative to stay away from movies that make them uncomfortable.

As for me, well. If I hated every single film where queerness was depicted as promiscuous and/or villainous? I wouldn't be able to appreciate many cinematic gems.

From Hitchcock's "Rebecca," "Rope" and "Strangers on a Train" to "All About Eve," "Maltese Falcon," "Rome Open City" and, yes, blockbusters like "Silence of the Lambs."

My point is, there's more to this film than bigotry:

There are Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins's outstanding performances. Hopkins defined Hannibal for me way before Mads Mikkelsen did.

The horror and thriller elements are very well-executed; they personally had me jumping out of my skin.

Fumijoto's cinematography and camera angles are [chef's kiss].

The script itself is tight.

Films are products of their time and evolve as our cultures and politics evolve.

Of course, that doesn't mean they're absolved of responsibility for the perpetuation of bigotry, but when you're starved for representation in an era when there are no nuanced queer characters, you might settle for the offensive (coded) caricatures.

Had your friend grown up during such an era, what would they have chosen? No representation or problematic representation?

Let's just say they're lucky enough they don't have to choose the lesser of the two evils.

Do people you know irl know you participate in fandom? My best friend irl, my Aunt, and one other irl friend who has some common fandom interests with me but does not have a tumblr know at least vaguely no one else. What’s a book, movie or show you think Taissa would like?

I think she’d vibe with Give Me Your Hand by Megan Abbott which is one of my favorite suspense books, women in STEM and murder and homoerotic female friendships, and it’s also a very.. elegant book in the way it’s structured from my memory so I think that would appeal to her a lot. I generally would want her to read Megan Abbott but I wonder if she’d find Dare Me not sophisticated enough according to her tastes, and some of The Fever might hit a little too close to home .. but she’d Love Give Me Your Hand imo, and I think she’d enjoy You Know Me Well but maybe not be as effected by it. 

Give us a Headcanon for Taissa 

I’m sure we’ll see something regarding how everything she witnessed with her grandmother’s death and funeral + deaths in the wilderness influences how she acts at a funeral with Nat’s funeral, but I think while they’re obviously hard for anyone Taissa has a specific I-would-rather-do-anything-else-in-the-world response to them, but instead of withdrawing combats that and the guilt of feeling that way by forcing herself to be very involved with organizing/smoothing things over for everyone, participating in the public speaking (why I feel like she’s going to be the one to give a speech at Nat’s funeral). I just think that’s very in line with how she reacts to trauma and the subsequent guilt over being imperfect…
