A thought I've had (and I know is not original, but I'm gonna vent it anyway,) is why, at the stage of the story we're in, knowing the speed and the hastened PACE of the story that Horikoshi has taken towards this end, Why did he choose to sideline Izuku by taking him into the setting with Toga and Ochako?
Why choose now to have that entire confrontation and the entire topic of love and imitation that he chose to reveal just THEN.
When this story is picking up pace to head into the finale, it's rather telling that Horikoshi took the time to DIVERT the main character into this.
From a writing standpoint here, something is significant. We aren't doing that to fluff up the story anymore. There's no such thing as filler, especially in the final act.
Partly it was to give Shigaraki the opportunity to wreck the Heroes without Izuku there to help; and for Shigaraki to kill Bakugou.
Honestly the answer seems like it could contribute to some realization of his own imitation of the person who is quote, "CLOSEST TO HIM"

was talking with a friend about how some of dunmeshi fаndom misunderstands kabru's initial feelings towards laios.
to sum up kabru's situation via a self-contained modernized metaphor:
kabru is like a guy who lost his entire family in a highly traumatic car accident. years later he joins a discord server and takes note of laios, another server member who seems interesting, so they start chatting. then laios reveals his special interest and favorite movie of all time is David Cronenberg's Crash (1996), and invites kabru to go watch a demolition derby with him
