That Damn hat
CH. 3
(Also on ao3)
Elphaba wanted to see Glinda more than anything. The only problem was she couldn’t exactly leave Kiamo Ko without the possibility of being seen. However she did have some friends who may be willing to help her. She opened the trap door and climbed out. She looked out the nearest window. There was one person she had in mind for the task of communicating with Glinda.
Except he wasn’t a person

Glinda had NOT had a good day. After being out with “friends” all day, her headache was getting worse. She told the maids to take the day off and was now in her bed, reading a lesbian romance novel, Malky had curled up beside her, purring as Glinda pet her.
Finally she fell into a peaceful sleep.

“CHISERY!” Elphaba yelled at the top of her lungs. This was him. It had to be.
For all of the three months she had been living at Kiamo Ko, she knew that the monkeys visited quite often. Of course she had spent most of her time trying to be invisible to them, most of them could hardly talk, but they would blabber the news to someone.
Except for Chisery.
Chisery was the one who was best at speaking, he was quite a good friend, and she knew that if she could trust anyone to get through to Glinda it was him.
Elphaba could see Chisery approaching her. The joy she felt was all she needed to know this plan was going to work.
Chisery flew in through the window, eyes wide in disbelief.
“M-miss Elphaba? Is that you?” He questioned, landing on a chair.
Elphaba grinned “Yes Chisery, I– wait, you learned to speak fluently?”
“Yes Miss Elphaba, after your death Miss Glinda helped me to speak.” Chisery said very matter-of-factly, “Speak of which, why are you not– uh–”
“Why am I not what, Chisery?” Elphaba inquired, leaning against the wall.
“Dead?” Chisery finished finally.
Elphaba simply laughed, “Death is a social construct Chisery.”
The two sat in silence for a minute, then Elphaba spoke up, “I’m joking, but in all honesty I did fake my death.”
“Yo–you did? How?” Chisery asked, still very confused as to what was happening.
“When I melted I actually slipped into a trap door, and I was able to heal and run away with Fiyero.”
Chisery sighed, “Ah, Fiyero, so he isn’t dead either?”
“Heh no, but for all I care he could be,” Elphaba muttered, going to fetch some paper.
Chisery figured it was best not to ask follow up questions on the matter, so he stayed quiet until Elphaba spoke up again.
“Chisery, I need your help,” She stated, beginning to write on the paper.
“What do you need me for, miss Elphaba?” Chisery inquired.
“Two days ago Glinda stopped by, I kept to my trap door while she visited, I could hear her. See was terribly upset over what happened to me. I–” Elphaba’s voice broke for a split second, “I think she blames herself for my death.”
Chisery looked at Elphaba, he couldn’t see the pain in Elphaba’s face, so he spoke up, “Well it was kind of her fault. She di–”
“Shut up!” Elphaba snapped at the monkey, “None of this is her fault, in fact if I had listened to her all those years ago... Maybe things would be different, if I hadn’t gone off at the wizard. Surely I could have found a way to persuade that horrid man...” She trailed off, her eyes beginning to water, “...Then maybe I wouldn’t be up here, my life wasting away as we speak,” She put her hands in her face.
“Miss Elphaba I’m truly sorry, I didn’t mean it in that way,–”
Elphaba looked up , “Chisery I need your help,” She picked up the piece of paper and began to write. when she had completed, she folded it up and handed it to Chisery, “Chisery, please, I need you to give this to Glinda, she needs to know the truth.”
Chisery took the paper, but questioned, “Isn’t this a little risky? What if she tells someon–”
“I would, and am going to trust Glinda with my life. She deserves to know. Please deliver that note, Chisery. It’s my last hope. And be sure to deliver it after the dragon clock strikes one.” Elphaba instructed carefully.
Chisery nodded, “I won’t let you down Elphaba,” he whispered, before flying into the night.
Elphaba grinned and called after him “I know you won’t.”
