So I know that "low effort" rituals are a big hit because like, we're all busy girlbossing or whatever, but in an effort to re-attune ourselves to, uh, ourselves, I think we should start bringing back longer, more encompassing rituals and rites.
I definitely experienced something through the new moon in scorpio, and like I do tarot readings so I am fully aware that most of you did too lol. The natural cycles of the world don't pause just because we stop paying attention. I spent this year mostly observing, but I'm pausing to reflect now and I'm outlining a rite that takes up an entire two weeks.
I know the backlash is going to be, "not everyone can put their life on hold for that long!"
Guys that's the point. You deserve to be able to put your life on hold that long. If an emergency happens and you can't avoid putting your entire life on hold, then what? Consider this rite a fire drill. And spanning an entire two weeks, you're not going to need to be 100% focused, meditating, fasting for the entire 15 days of the lunar event. But even if there is never an emergency. You deserve to be able to step back and breathe if you need to. Let your support system support you, and let the fires burn away anything that is no longer necessary. It will temper what is left.
It's meant to be paired with the new/dark moon in scorpio and advances until the full moon in taurus, but can be adjusted to fit literally whatever. I'm trying to keep it simple with enough instruction to make it accessible but its meant to be like a full energetic reset.
Do you guys like. Wanna read that? (60% of the instructions are "party hard and then take a really nice bath")

Reread Equal Rites recently. I used to think it was about feminism and little girls getting the same opportunities as little boys. Which, it isn't not about that. But ALSO.
It's about an intersex kid.
It's about a little girl born with a staff.
And that's Not Right.
The adults in the room- her father, the 'medical professional'- attempt to remove the staff, by blade and by fire. The fresh little baby SCREAMS. So they agree to pretend it doesn't exist. She'll probably grow up just a regular little girl.
right?
But just around the onset of puberty..... it becomes apparent, not to her, but to the adults, that she's not going to be Regular.
The medical professional tries again to rectify matters. She tries to destroy the staff while the girl is unconscious. The girl screams. The adults give in. They aren't monsters.... but life will be so much harder, so much less foreseen, for this strange little girl....
They try to raise her 'right'.
If she won't be a conventional woman... maybe an unconventional woman. A Powerful woman- in the way that women can be powerful. Are permitted to be powerful.
But she's not a woman- she's a child. What will she be, when she's grown? A Witch. A Wizard. She can't be either. She can't be neither.
(The term 'warlock' is repeatedly invoked and scoffed. The etymology of 'warlock' is 'breaker of oaths'. Counter to the covenant. Rulebreaker.)
Right.

Shadowcasting, the third installment in The Mia Graves Saga is now out. And if you're looking for some fun, queer, contemporary fantasy books to read (with a good dose of humor and a pinch of spice), you should check out all of them.
Book one, The Witch and the Rose, asks the important question "What if your one night stand was your only chance to survive your haunted house?" Think "lovers to friends" as the trajectory here.
In book two, Bloody Damn Rite, Mia has to deal with both vampires and her ex-girlfriend showing up in town at the same time.
And now, in book three, Shadowcasting, we find out just how hard it is to talk a twenty-something out of using a magical nuke. Mostly because no one listens to you when you work retail.
Order the books today!

O’ my Lord Lucifer, Lord Phosphoros, Great Attar Ishtar, Shining Helel,
I come to you again on this sacred day,
You, who graciously teaches the mysteries of the cosmos,
You, light bringer, who illuminates and liberates,
Giving dignity to the oppressed and forging revolution with your every step.
O’ God of outcasts, O’ mourning star,
You, who falls, who once lost everything, and built himself up again,
Who survived after exile and made a world for his own,
Who embraces his kin with unconditional love,
So that they may learn to love themselves.
God of freaks, God of rebels, God of free thinkers,
We hail your light, for it renews and transforms us.
God of movement, God of progress, God of struggle, God of chaos and control,
Who teaches us to be forged by the flames,
To burn away all that does not serve us,
How splendid is your presence,
You, who makes suffering bearable,
Who loves radically and freely, deeply and intensely,
Who frees the mind from the shackles of bondage and slavery,
And gives me wings to fly,
Who teaches me with intimate care,
Who gives me the strength to love again,
In your name, O’ God, I make myself in your image,
I color myself in your light, and I find you everywhere.
O’ Lucifer, O’ light bringer,
Even when your light cannot be seen, even when you fall below the horizon,
There’s a glimmer in my heart that trust fully in your return,
And you reward my heart, O’ Lord, every time.
In this new chapter, and as I consecrate this rite, I accept every part of you, and every lesson you have yet to teach me,
I give you infinite grace for all that you have already given me,
I forever invite you, O’ Lord, to be near me in all things,
For I await you as I always have, in the place I always do,
In the temple of my heart.
O’ Lucifer, so it shall be, as it has always been; as it shall be again.
Ave Lucifer, Hail thyself!
Thank you. 🖤
Happy Venus Day and a very blessed first rite to all Lucifer devotees!!!! ✴️💖

Lunar Energetic Reset 🌑♏ days 1-3
I have good new; the first day is so fucking easy. First, here's the spell. You can do it once, you can do it every day if you want, altering your materials and name to fit your lunar phase and intention. Don't laugh at me for liking rhymes, they're easier to remember that way.
Tumblr media
Dark moon in Scorpio, destroy my illusions. Steep me in mystery, erase my confusion. My attachments succumb to your cold, hard depths. Cleanse me now of my fear, escort me through this death. All beginnings must have ends, I rise from this darkness, to begin again.
I'm not usually in the business of telling other people what their spells should or shouldn't look like, but how mine might look will be below. I usually try to keep mine streamlined and to the point. Follow your intention to suit your circumstance. A newer practitioner might be terrified of working with moldavite but if you feel your life needs a good hard shake, by all means full send.
I like a circle for big spells and rituals such as this. I think it helps me keep focus, and it feels like a layer of protection? To me, casting a circle is the opening of the gates, if that makes sense. You are telling the universe, "Look at me! Pay attention! I'm giving you instructions, so listen up!"
I do a lot of cleansing for this one too. That's the whole point of the ritual! To get rid of old, stagnant energy doesn't serve you. Sometimes these things can be stuck on there good, like old habits.
A single black or purple candle would do perfectly, nothing wrong with a white one either. Another candle option is four points around you, white or black, symbolizing the four cardinal directions and your elemental powers.
Herbs and oils with banishing, cleansing, or protection properties such as olive oil, rosemary, oregano, vervain, mugwort, frankincense, or you could also tilt a little baneful and go foxglove, wormwood, rust ash, charcoal powder, or even graveyard dirt if there's something really icky clinging to you.
I believe I remember bringing in a hematite and a rainbow obsidian to meditate with during this part, too. Selenite, clear or smoky quartz, moldavite, onyx, black tourmaline or kyanite would be powerful helpers also.
Write the spell out, and everything you are releasing and banishing on the back. Submerge it in a bowl or cup of storm or rain blessed water to charge it. Bury the paper in the yard to charge it with earth.
The best time to do this spell might be at dusk or at night.
Since the goal of this rite is to totally clean and reset your energy, its going to have ripple effects in your life where your energy is concerned (hint: that's everywhere). I like to combine my magic with physical or "mundane," actions to get the most out of my handiwork and minimize aftershocks. Obviously these actions are optional, and will not be accessible to everyone. Your main intention is to meditate on what you are releasing and seeing that it's fully released.
Tumblr media
Day one makes me so happy because it is literally cleaning your house but a little chaotic. We're getting rid of the freeloaders. I am giving you permission to make a mess. Obviously this gets trickier with roommates or family, but then you can just rope them in to helping. Pull things off of shelves, out of cabinets and dust as you go. Don't overwhelm yourself too fast, so work maybe on one corner of a room at a time, but don't be afraid to get dirty.
Organize things into keep, donate, and throw away groups. If a pile of ??? grows, that's okay. Leave it for now; you get to address them later. You kind of want to have to be making eye contact with your masterpiece. Put obvious keep things back where they belong as you move through the space, but keep the undecided pile in your periphery.
The second part of stage one is that when you get tired? Just stop. Leave all your crap there if you're able to. Of course, communicate with your housemates and again, you are making an oath to return to it in due time. Stop what you're doing and rest. Attend to your needs. Eat when you're hungry and sit if you get stressed or emotional and take a moment to feel your feelings as they arise. Even contemplating parting with certain treasures is enough to cause waterworks in me. This is also a practice in listening to your body and becoming attuned to your own spirit nature. It will tell you everything it needs if you listen closely enough.
The end goal is to have a clean house with a pile of leftovers you might want to get rid of but idk I really like them and I've already had it for so long. I can't just throw it away! We're not making hard decisions yet. You'll know when you're ready to move to the next phase, or you can ask the moon. You're doing amazing.

Witchcraft for Fertile Lands & Bountiful Harvests
Now that the equinox has passed, it’s April, if you’re in the northern hemisphere you are probably getting the itch to get your hands in the soil. Before chemical fertilizers and industrial irrigation, land fertility was a matter of magic. Fields needed more than just good soil, they needed spirits to be appeased, tools to be enchanted, and secret charms to be buried in the ground. The people of the past knew this well. So let’s talk about it.
Tumblr media
Blood for the Land
One of the oldest ways to feed the fields was blood. In medieval Europe, it was said that cunning folk and sometimes witches (or those with a “knack for growing”) would cut their fingers and let a few drops fall into the furrows before planting. In some cases, an animal (often a black rooster) was buried at the field’s edge as an offering.
This echoes older traditions. In early Germanic law codes, certain lands were marked as sacred and required ritual blood offerings to remain fertile (Grágás, Konungsbók, c. 1250). Similarly, in early Scandinavian sources, spirits called landvættir were given food and blood to ensure the crops would grow (Vǫlsa þáttr, c. 14th century). A farmer who failed to make these offerings might find his fields withered or his cows refusing to milk.
Plows, Blades, & Enchanted Tools
The first breaking of soil was sacred. In parts of Belgium and the Netherlands, farmers would have their plows blessed or inscribed with magical marks to protect against bad fortune. Some tools were even rubbed with a mix of ground bones and vervain to ensure strong crops (De Meyer, 1927, “Witchcraft and Agriculture in Flanders”).
One particular charm from medieval Germany involved taking a handful of barley, mixing it with milk and dung, and leaving it to ferment under the sun. This was then sprinkled over the fields, an offering to both the land and its spirits (Grimm, 1888, “Teutonic Mythology,” vol. 3).
Witches’ Powders for Growth
Some cunning folk or witches were said to craft powders that when scattered across the soil would ensure the land would thrive. These powders were often made of:
Ground bones (sometimes from small animals, sometimes human remains from old gravesites)
Ashes of burned offerings
Vervain, mugwort, or yarrow, all plants associated with fertility magic
Pacts with the Land Spirits
Many witches and even everyday townsfolk were believed to strike bargains with the spirits of the land, whether through bread left at crossroads, hair buried under a tree, or whispered words over freshly tilled earth. In parts of France and Belgium, some cunning folk called upon the “Green Lord” (a figure much like the Green Man) to ensure the fields would yield plenty. One recorded ritual involved carving a small wooden effigy, whispering the farmer’s request into its “ears” and then burying it at the center of the field. If done properly, it would wake the land and call forth its virtues (Van den Broeck, 1643, “Charms & Cunning Folk of the Lowlands.”).
Tumblr media
Weather Magic for Rain & Growth
In medieval Saxony, witches were said to “milk” a knife stuck into the ground, symbolizing drawing water from the earth (Der Sachsenspiegel, c. 1230). In the Low Countries, groups of women would walk barefoot through the fields, scattering salt and herbs while calling upon spirits for rain (Verhelst, 1905, “Rural Magic in the Lowlands.”). A medieval Polish text records a rainmaking charm where women boiled a pot of water with enchanted herbs while chanting for rain (Długosz, 1470, “Annales seu cronicae incliti regni Poloniae.”).
Working these charms over your land ensured you could keep yourself fed, your cattle fed, your family. Performing these kinds of workings also establishes a deeper connection to the land. It’s important work! Especially in this economy, you better be blessing them damn crops.

Then, in the upcoming Shadowcasting, there's Witchcraft and more Witchcraft, while Mia still deals with Trauma but Riley only just gets kind of judgy... because Bobbi is the one making bad life decisions.
Do all of these people need therapy? Probably.
