A little sketch I did of Katsushi from Turn In Such Humanity by @simkjrs, a very fun founders era fic whose Tobirama is now my headcanon. If you haven't read it yet (and you have the time to inevitably fall down a 500k word rabbithole) I'd highly recommend it and its companion piece Let The Devil In for some wonderful platonic insanity and extra Izuna.

I don't get why the broader fandom is so terrified of the idea of Dandy being evil (and by association moonflower, the most popular ship with him, being toxic yaoi).

Like bro even Qwel is guilty of this. It reads like those newgen types that are so deathly afraid of liking a "problematic" character that they do all these mental gymnastics to prove they're not obsessed with a fictional character that's villainous.

There's nothing in the game that proves that dumbass statement that he's "morally gray". His reserach description just says he's responsible for the ichor operation. He gets angry when you don't buy from him, tries to kill you, then taunts you after the encounter. He's implied to have coerced Astro into silence. He refuses to confront people like Vee and Sprout, who WOULD chew him out unlike Astro. He refuses to tell anyone in general what's going on.

Pisses me off that people insist on calling Drifter a rat (slur) when 'viper' is literally right there. Like, if you want an animal-based insult that amounts to someone being cunning and sneaky and untrustworthy despite that not fitting the actual animal at all, then that's an alternative that's far more generalized. Plus there's the added bonuses of:

1.) It's literally his sigil. Gambit is snake-themed. There's snake stuff all over it, even moreso than hunter stuff (despite our sigils literally having snakes). Like, hello

2.) Vipers are typically very big on the whole 'don't be seen, if seen, bluff about how big and scary and mean you are, then bite as a last resort (or unless stepped on, in which case bite first)'. That's Drifter. Drifter's whole shtick was that his 'I'm a bad guy I'm gonna do illegal shit with you ooohhh watch out I'm the Drifter' thing was all an act to keep people at bay bc he's actually a sweet, caring fellow who's scared of being hurt. Most vipers are typically fairly chill, inquisitive snakes whose awful bite is only given after a hell of a lot of bark. It fits

3.) Jumping off the previous point, vipers give live birth and are one of the snakes with the most complex parental care and social structures that we currently know of- rattlesnakes recognize friends and blood family, gather together in communal denning sites, babysit their relative's neonates, and form (what seems to be) some mode of either mutual tolerance or friendship with garter snakes (another communally denning species). They're an animal with a scary look and reputation that are actually quite gentle and fearful despite their dangerous bite. Again, that's Drifter-coded

You really don't need to use a slur to begin with tbh but like, if you really need affectionate insults for funny dialogue or w/ever, there's alternatives out there that work just as well without the racism. You don't need some long-winded, contrived excuse

Rereading let the devil in, an excellent founders era fic with accidental soulbond between Tobirama and Izuna, and after hearing Izuna once again complain he couldn't tell what his partner was feeling was struck by the powerful urge to give him Tobirama-style sensing tattoos.

But since this is Izuna, he insisted on them looking like eyeshadow.

This way, he can tell whenever Tobirama is feeling down AND look fabulous in battle even if he didn't have time to apply makeup! Truly an excellent idea :)

Well I found a Naruto founders era fic series called Without A Softness Showing about four days ago and have binged the first fic for each perspective so far. That's about 500,000 words. Send help.

Seriously though, it's an amazing fic series and as soon as I was finished I was struck by the urge to draw Runa-sama, Tobirama's nogitsune summons. Every time she's on screen everything feels so horrifying and tense and I love it so much, peak inhuman character.

Please excuse the sloppy calligraphy, it's been years since I even touched the English stuff, much less kanji.
