Flower Husbands Arranged Marriage AU

i have been sitting on this esmp au for a while, mostly just talking about it in discord and thinking “man i should write that” while. not writing it. because my attention span is bad. but i wanna share it with the world so im gonna just make a huge post explaining the concept and if anyone’s interested they can shoot me an ask or something!

side note, MASSIVE thank you to my friends on the [REDACTED] server for helping me work some of this stuff out!! i’m not actually sure how many people gave ideas, because a lot of us were talking about it, but i want y’all to know i love and appreciate you guys and wouldn’t have gotten it this far without you 🥺

i know there are a few other flower husbands arranged marriage aus out there but this is my take on it and i love it quite dearly

the very general idea is this:

scott is a king, and he’s like, super pissed at the royals from another kingdom/empire. and they’re like "oh shit, we wont win a fight against that dude, how can we make him like us?" and then turn to him all "heeyyyy...wanna marry our son? would you not declare war on us then?? if you don't want to marry him you can just like...do whatever, we don't care, so long as it pacifies you"

and scott is like "wow, that’s like....super shitty of you. why the fuck would you offer up your own son to a man you know fucking hates your guts. much less imply that you don't even care if i like, kill him? what the fuck. are you fucking insane? you know what, just for that, i will take your son, because i feel like if he stays there he might fucking die when you, i don't know, offer him to the next person you piss off? seriously, you guys are fucked in the head" and then he's like "wait fuck i just agreed to marry a stranger. i don't even know the dude. i don't even know what he looks like. oh this was a terrible idea"

and then jimmy comes and he is, unfortunately or fortunately, very very cute, and sweet, and charming, and scott genuinely Does Not Understand why the guys parents didn't seem to care about him at all but also he’s straddling this line of like "okay, he's hot, i like him, but he married me because he was obligated to, so trying to actually do anything would be taking advantage of him" while also being like "but damn he's really really hot and i really really like him tho-"

meanwhile jimmy is just like. trying to figure out if scott. actually is interested or not because wow is he getting mixed signals, and he was prepared for the worst but scott is actually pretty nice and even if he’s a bit of a smug bastard at times it’s kinda part of his charm-

that’s the very basic setup, more details under the cut so the post doesn’t drag on too long

prince jimmy has awful parents for the sake of the plot. which sucks for him but it’s okay it gets better. but you know who else has awful parents for the sake of the plot?? his older sister, princess lizzie, who ran away a few years back because she couldn’t take them anymore. she didn’t want to leave jimmy behind, but he told her to just get out while she could, and not to worry about him, he could take care of himself. so she did, and became a pirate queen that goes by the alias shadowlady. she and jimmy sort of kept in touch, but they couldn’t be close anymore, not without her getting found and brought back to their parents. they write letters when they can, but it’s a very slow form of communication

when she gets a panicked letter from jimmy informing her that their parents are marrying him off to the king of another kingdom in exchange for peace, with it being heavily implied by their parents that said king could literally just kill jimmy if he wanted if that’s what it took to bring peace, well. lizzie is not happy to head that!! so she goes to put a stop to the wedding

but letters aren’t a great way of sending urgent news, and, well....by the time she hears about it and heads off to save him, the wedding has already happened

meanwhile, back with the flower husbands, jimmy is downright bewildered with the fact that scott is. just kinda leaving him alone? he’s not bothering him, basically said “what’s mine is yours, sorry about all the fuss, uhhhh bye” and went to do politics while trying to give jimmy space. jimmy expected scott to be like...a horrible monster or something because that’s what everyone from his home kingdom seems certain scott is. but no, he’s....actually pretty nice when he’s not ducking away from jimmy out of some sense of guilt. jimmy came here prepared to die for his country, having realized lizzie wouldn't make it in time to save him, but this has gone...fine? scott’s actually a lot nicer to him than his own parents are, even if he mostly just tries to leave jimmy be

so jimmy decides to get to know the guy better, and then start to become friends. most people think that their marriage is purely political, and they don’t really like each other, but actually they find they can get along pretty well, despite their differences in personality. they balance each other out, in a way. so they start to get along, and this causes problems for both of them because before they know it they’re both pining, and both convinced that the other has no romantic interest in them. the marriage was for peace, not for love, so clearly that won’t change no matter how much they’re both starting to wish it would

that’s around when lizzie gets to the kingdom

she starts trying to “kidnap” jimmy in order to save him from his clearly quite evil husband(because, well, he just married her little brother when jimmy didn’t want to marry him, clearly he’s EVIL and it’s totally not that he just make a snap decision to get jimmy out of a bad situation in the fastest way possible as opposed to the best way possible), still going under the moniker of shadowlady. basically she’s acting like some kind of vigilante. she’s basically running around scott’s kingdom acting like zorro while also trying to rescue her brother in ways that make it look like she’s trying to kidnap him(she doesn’t want her identity getting out, and there’s only so much she can do when her hair is naturally pink. she tends to tie it up at the top of her head and wear some sort of hat over it, but even then, sometimes a few strands slip out. “kidnapping” instead of rescuing obfuscates her identity just a little bit more, and she’ll take what she can get)

while doing this, she meets a nobleman named joel, who becomes somewhat enamored with her pretty quickly because omg bamf vigilante lady wants to use HIS manor for a secret base?? of course, she can do what she wants, he certainly won’t stop her!! he has a bit of a conflict of interests here, since he doesn’t particularly want the cool masked vigilante lady to kill scott, like he and the king don’t get along 100% of the time but he knows the guy has been dealing with like 3 different coup attempts lately and scott is definitely a better option for king than the people that keep trying to overthrow him. and he also knows that jimmy has been settling into the kingdom more and more and seems pretty happy these days? he doesn’t know how the two are getting along, exactly, but jimmy certainly doesn’t seem to be in any danger

but also...wow that vigilante lady is smart and pretty and badass....it can’t hurt to help her a LITTLE bit, right? lots of people have tried to kill scott in the past and not succeeded, surely she won’t manage to come any closer!

she will, in fact, come a lot closer than anyone else ever has, which makes joel start to regret his decision making skills

that’s the long and short of this au. there’s more details scattered throughout it, a few scene ideas i have, but this is all i feel like typing up atm. it does have a happy ending for all four of the main characters, because i don’t do sad endings to my aus. im a wimp like that

i wanna hear more about your OCs in general...i didn't even know you had any til just now! would you care to gimme a little intro to your faves?

the ones I mentioned before are from my most precious WIP, as it crumbles. it's barely even a story at this point since it's been a fundamental part of my psyche for forever but. i do want to finish it someday and do the characters justice.

sooo for a little intro...

Joshua is the main protagonist of the story. he's a very sad little man with lots of repression and trauma, but he tries. he's a bit of a contradiction in that he doesn't treat people very well while simultaneously being chronically nice. it's a "too nice to form deep connections while also being generally an asshole without realizing it" kind of deal. or something. i wanted to make him more clear-cut type of mean but i am incapable of writing him that way. just isnt in his bones i dont think.

anyway, he's the son of the empress's (her title is more complicated than that but for the sake of simplicity, she is the empress) highest general. he grew up in the palace with his mother gone most of the time, but the empress sort of took him in as her own (derogatory). sadly she was very controlling and gave him almost no agency that he didnt specifically fight for. on top of that he is very bad at talking to people and taking the initiative unless he's been pushed into a corner along with other ~issues~ but! after [redacted] he finds courage, and forming a friendship with xenia helps him massively. overall an earnest wet rag of a man being held together with scotch tape and a constantly clenched jaw.

xenia is the main supporting character. she is very kind and sweet but strong-willed and idealistic. she is stuuuupidly loyal and will love you to DEATH. but she's also good at redirecting people when theyre going wrong. aka joshua lmao. her loyalty is also her downfall a bit though as she can put others before her a little too much. she is also not good at allll at strategy or planning. she just kinda *does things*, you know? i think that joshua's experience growing up in the palace where politics and strategy are more important than brute strength helps balance her out in this. he may be very stupid in a lot of ways but he is educated. she's also very physically strong and good at hand-to-hand combat and archery. mostly bc i thought it would be fun and sexy for her to shoot a bow and arrow. honestly need to give her more flaws... hmmmm. she is very special to me tho <3

avery is moooostly a side character. she was joshua's betrothed at the start of the story, but after he leaves her behind to go on his little hero's journey or whatever she realizes that she deserved better. bless her. im not really sure where she ends up in the story. i want them to meet again later and have her play a pivotal role but idk what it is just yet! she also forms a strong bond with xenia at some point, much to joshua's dismay.

personality-wise she is very long-suffering but kinda scary and cunning. she doesnt use this for evil tho. she is also very protective. i think that was from growing up with joshua and having to step in when he was being treated unfairly (which also unintentionally contributed to his dependence on others to take care of things for him but that's for a deeper dive than this). idk! she's smart and quick and good at thinking her way out of a situation. she is also excellent at embroidery!

those are kinda the three who have been on my mind lately, but there's also isamara, who is the empress, and jayla who is the seems-to-be-evil-but-it's-more-complicated-than-that antihero type and ashka and nathalia whose biggest roles were played before the story started, but still serve a veryyyy important purpose now.

this is already long tho so i will save them for another time! i think they are really cool and (i just realized) their characters contain like 99% of the magical elements in the story ushfsdu so if u are curious i'd be happy to give them an overview too :>

in my heart she's an investigative journalist who moved back to wayhaven after sm things went down at her old job that made her want to find out what really happened to rook and reconnect w rebecca, but then got caught up in the murder plot with UB starting book 1, but in the vein of canon, she joined the force to follow in rook's footsteps etc.

she was kind of a weird kid, always daydreaming and making up her own very in-depth games and stories in the corner- she was pretty shy! sometimes she wld write them down and that's what first got her interested in writing

the car is named Tracy and she is a LADY who is doing her best!!!! at this point tracy is a cherished friend, jokes about her being bad will Not be well received >:(

she's very much in her head all the time, smtimes her sentences sort of meander and just go off on tangents and then kind of drift off at the ends

rebecca sent her to boarding school for a while following an Event in luna's childhood that made rebecca feel like wayhaven wasn't safe for the time being, she had lots of fun but that's kind of the time when luna started to worry she'd done smth wrong and that's why rebecca didn't want her around, since she'd kind of blocked out the Incident

many nervous habits! including but not limited to: cleaning her glasses, braiding small strands of her hair, jostling her leg, cracking her knuckles

she is actually v smart! in a book sense at least :0 she's clever and good at solving puzzles, and she remembers a lot of rlly obscure info abt lots of things- look into her eyes and you can basically hear the mii music playing, but she is intelligent!

she loves animals :') walking anywhere with her takes Ages bc she wants to stop and look at birds and if there's a worm on the sidewalk everything comes to a Halt while a rescue operation is performed

rocks!!!!! she's a huge geology nerd and she Loves them sm, fun crystals and pebbles alike :) she collects them all and if you picked one up and asked her abt it she wld know exactly when and where she got it

she hates seasonal music!!!! halloween songs and Especially christmas songs!! she cant explain why but it drives her up. the. wall. during the last few months of the year she's like that gif from community of the woman hitting the guy with a candy cane like "its December 10th!!!" its the one thing about the holidays she doesn't like

lots of her favorite books are from the golden age of detective fiction! she also reads a lot of poetry and history books, and loves nonfiction :D she's a sucker for any book with really in depth worldbuilding and/or a map on the front inside cover- she DID read the entire silmarillion AND enjoy it! she loves animated and stop-motion movies, laika is her Favorite studio and she owns every studio ghibli movie

she loves any food or drink where the main ingredient is sugar <3 catch her eating lucky charms dry straight from the box! she'll only drink coffee if it has like. vanilla or sm other sweet flavoring added to it along with 12 packs of sugar

her sleep schedule.... oh no! she had insomnia even before murphy, and now with the nightmares, it's even worse :( it's ok though! she uses the nighttime to work on art or baking or writing etc.

she listens to lots of indie/folk music- the oh hellos are one of her favorite bands! also she's a big fan of fun pop music- carly rae jepsen, bleachers, hayley kiyoko, HAIM, etc. also smdfnsj she Does listen to lofi music

she's loved chess since she was a kid and often plays against herself or another opponent- she also usually has a puzzle she's working on, and really likes crossword puzzles/sudoku games!

background noise is a Friend <3 it rlly helps her focus!

she loves her potted plants a lot! she has very detailed instructions on how to take care of them and she does talk/sing to them to help them grow

her house Looks minimalist? she values the aesthetic but she cannot commit- open any drawer in her house and you'll find like 7000 receipts she hasn't thrown out yet

she is Sweet but! untapped Rage is there... she has a tendency to bottle things up until one tiny thing makes her Go Off with all the stress and anger she's been holding back :( she Will cry and yell and then be completely horrified and spend the next 3-4 weeks apologizing profusely

she feels bad about. Everything :( she blames herself a lot,, it's easier to tell herself that things are going wrong bc it's her Fault and she did smth wrong rather than accept that it's out of her control

on that subject things with rebecca are Awkward!! they kind of drifted apart and luna feels like she shld have tried harder to keep in touch

her primary love language... probably words of affirmation or physical affection! she's very open w her affections and telling/showing people she loves them (to the extent they're comfortable with it! she prefers to let whoever she's with dictate the pace of the relationship)

if you see her Sleeping on the floor.... just leave her be,, she's sleepy

she is. weirdly lucky at small things and games of chance? catch her being dealt a full house right out of the gate during card games or finding quarters on the street all the time! she wins carnival games like nobody's business <3

absently she knows all the Lucky things to wish on! shooting stars, ladybugs, eyelashes, pennies, 11:11, etc :)

she dresses like. a very specific kind of influencer lowkey, w the oversized t-shirts and jeans ksdfm, the Sweaters/coats, etc.

hot weather does Not spark joy- she owns like 700 fans and loves getting to wear all her cute winter clothes :)

she's not allowed to watch cooking/baking shows unsupervised anymore, following the Incident where she watched one and then spent the entire night building a Giant gingerbread mansion spreading across the floor of her apartment

she deflects. a Lot! not even intentionally really but it just Happens :/ she's naturally a pretty open person but smtimes she just naturally is Not Talking abt it and tries to play things off, especially personal things abt her feelings/reactions to things <3

she is Nervous,, her base level of stress is. kind of up there! surprises Do Not work bc she will just Shriek and drop what she's holding sndfsjn.... it was like that even before murphy but. you know. it's more pronounced now :/

in her heart she is like. a human golden retriever! she's excited!! she wants to be friends!! she's roaming around,, take her for a walk and maybe she will find a cool stick to carry!!

she walks with a little bit of a skip in her step! on her toes a bit so nobody can tell she is Short... (it doesnt work)

I keep typing this up and then deleting it because I'm genuinely not sure what to say, like I don't know how much I should say or how I can even begin to express how I feel and I feel like it ultimately won't even matter because so much of it is sabotaged already lol. like I've been trying to talk to some people about it and talk about it as a whole but I really don't know how to because I've misled like. everyone, all because of stupid habits I formed in a community I never wanted to be apart of

there are parts of my personality and my past behavior that I'm actively trying to get away from but it's been really hard for a number of reasons. I used to be in this big community on Twitter that started out as being just "proship" (meaning they thought you should ship/like whatever you wanted because its all fake anyway) and I thought this would be a good space for me to just be myself, since every time in the past someone found out I was into something "weird" it blew up in my face because I'd had to hide it. I joined this community because I thought I'd be able to express myself more in general but it very quickly got out of hand and I got backed into the corner where I was encouraged more and more by the people around me to like. honestly be kind of gross and ridiculous because it gave me validation and I really thought I was doing something good for me. but this entire group of people wanted me to be hypersexual at all times and it got very out of hand and now its like.

me being horny and sexual and gross constantly is apart of my identity and the worst part is that I'm actually asexual, and I'm like barely invested in any of my actual sexual interests

and I know that it was my own behavior that led to people expecting this out of me and it was a group of people I had every option of leaving but I never did because I thought no one else would "accept" me. and being autistic my whole life without a proper diagnosis until recently makes it very hard for someone to be confident being on their own when you've always been seen as "weird"

this is a perception I genuinely do not know how to break free from and its these habits I've built up that allow my blog to be what it is. there are screenshots floating around about me with wildly outdated information that doesn't even exist anymore because I've since deleted and changed a lot of it but instead of like...asking for any sort of clarification, I've had people assume the worst about me (rightfully so) and its like

this identity i don't even want, that I don't even know how to get away from, is causing me problems when I genuinely feel like I'm not doing anything

I dont want people to think I'm this horny freak anymore, I want to like. be able to make jokes about how id LIKE to fuck Patrick or see frank in drag because I like the IDEA of it but its so hard to really convey this because I don't even know how to put it into words. especially since most things that have been misconstrued that I have, in fact, said in the past were still mostly jokes about my own sexuality

im fucking asexual and I don't want to have sex and I get drained when its all my friends want to talk about, but I trapped myself here and its having serious repercussions and I don't know how to make it go away

if I remade my account and changed my identity then id be misleading people who may have heard of my negative reputation in the past but I don't know how to change that reputation because its not who I am nor who I want to be and I don't even know if remaking would change it

yeah I still like a lot of the stuff I talk about on here (like redacted) but I don't really know how to explain that it isn't inherently sexual, and like

do you guys notice how I don't draw porn? it's because I don't actually like it but I like the implications of it

its really hard to explain and I don't even know if there's any point in explaining any of it because like. I think the people who decided to cut me out have their minds made up and I hope they see this post to see the explanations I wish I could have given them if they'd given me the chance

im not a sexual person, I'm the opposite of it, and the identity i built myself around is one that came out of pressures from people I desperately wanted to like me and out of the intense need to be in a community that accepted me but so long as that identity still exists somewhere out there its always going to follow me, especially if I keep giving into the expectations people have because explaining my sexuality to every single person that sees my tags would be daunting and exhausting

so like. I think I'm gonna take a break, I genuinely don't know what to do, and I'm sorry for encouraging all you guys to send me these messages but I think I need to stop for a while because like. I like giving you guys an outlet and I'm so happy you're so enthusiastic about these things but I'm so drained from doing this all day with everyone I talk to that its getting hard for me to have conversations with people who actually know what my deal is

I'm leaving this blog up especially since I have a lot of fandom-wide commitments and I hope that this clears things up. again, I'm sorry for misleading basically everyone but I'm not really sure how to break away from this

you can summon or become this mf if you're summoning you can talk to him which you mostly do

you can ALSO summon only certain parts of this, you can eat fire since you have something called 'scaled lungs' this protects you from burning from the inside out

if you're turning into the dragon you can still summon others they'll just be a bit weaker, still pretty cool though

drawbacks: this uses a lot of energy, it's likely that you'll pass out after using this. you just need to rest though and you'll be fine

quirk: TELEKINESIS

you can move stuff with your mind, pretty dope ngl 100t kg is the limit though. it's a lot,, but I think you'd be fine

drawbacks: you just get headaches man, they may hurt like hell but push through it boo you got it

at age 12 you were skilled enough w a rifle that you could be a government assassin (your mother never knew about the offer she's a drunk)

Oh boy thank you this is incredibly helpful.

Ok, so he comes from a universe that i made up myself, but so far there are also versions of him for Half Life and the SCP Foundation. Get ready for a ride cause this is convoluted af.

In his home lore, they're a changeling, the dnd style shapeshifter type instead of the fairy type. It's a fantasy/sci fi kinda deal with advanced technology that runs on magical energy. And essentially works as a doctor illegally for a crew of space pirates, since they don't care that he got kicked out of medical school.

Ya boi can generally be described as a chaotic trash gremlin. Will eat anything you put in front of them. Keeps terrorizing the dragon like a dumbass. Will not stop talking about his terrifying biology experiments if you catch him in a good mood. It's kind of a general rule not go into their lab without a reason or someone will probably end up with a fish bowl instead of a pancreas. Despite all that they're actually really good at their job, and healing magic is an expertise.

Currently their goal is to help find a cure to a devastating eldritch plague that's spread through the entire galaxy called the stardust plague. To this end, he is a member of the Flock of Stardust, a group of plague doctors who go around, research the plague and try their best to help the people affected by it. Aiden is in the unique position of being immune to some of the weirder effects of the plague due to complicated backstory stuff, so he can do more intensive research without having to worry about dying.

Height! This varies due to the shapeshifter thing, but typically stays at around 5'2 because that is my height.

Fandoms! Currently the two main variants are for Half Life and SCP. Both versions are fully human. (Can't wait to put them in a fandom where I can keep their wack ass magic) In Half Life, he's a member of the resistance against the Combine, having been born only a year or so before the resonance cascade. They're part of a small group who travel between the various cities and attempt rescue missions for other resistance members who have been captured. Specifically Aiden is the one tasked with keeping everyone else the fuck alive, and also they have a vortigaunt buddy named Em.

In SCP, Aiden is part of a smaller group within the foundation (im sure you can see a theme here) who tend to be called in when shit goes sideways. Sometimes literally. There was one incident that he responded to where gravity in Site-[REDACTED] decided to turn completely sideways due to an accident with an anomalous object. This version, while still mostly a normal human, is able to see past the 3rd dimension due to an accident they were caught in involving an 8th dimensional entity. He tries not to do that more than he has to though, because there are some terrifying things living in higher dimensional space.

And finally! Yes cilantro! Aiden is a bottomless pit of consuming food and there's currently a bet going on among the crew trying to find something he refuses to eat. The only rule is that it has to be generally edible to at least humans, since humans are well known among the galaxy for being able to eat a frankly ridiculous variety of foods.

Wow that was a lot.

I haven’t watched episode 8 yet...or have I? If it’s the most recent one. No.

Is the hornbill a bird? It probably is but I have a terrible memory and I’m dumb so. I skipped the last few weeks because I’m scawwed. How are you liking it? I did see someone say that the hornbill makes sense (without knowing what it is...at all) bc heart transplant patients only live like 5-15 years after but someone in those comments pointed out that he was so young when he got his and that’s pretty rare so he has a higher likelihood of survival. Frankly, this is the only way I will proceed. Since when did shows ever care about the heart transplant health? Never and it needs to stay that way!

jk also theres just different personalities. you and i mesh more bc we have a lot of the same beliefs and are coming from the same place. that makes it easier to understand as well. i really try to remember that but some people are really weird so. again just...the perception of certain things even down to acting skills. but i also dont like.......believe this genre can really do anything at all. on one hand i want them to do it right bc it’s a piece of work so they should. be proud of it. cos most things arent advancing us bc representation and culturalism are a lie bla bla. it’s just that when the depictions are negative or not done well it adds to the problem as opposed to the things that are well done are fairly benign and can’t really pull us back (perf example is the black panther film. i woudl definitely not say it was transgressive as a literal work but visually it’s just stunning. and it’s sad that it’s stunning and surprising but still with basically an all black cast of mostly dark people abd like what it means in the zeitgeist yes. it’s also just a good movie. but it’s still imperialist prop and unfortunately and this is fucking pathetic to say it “opened eyes” in other countries where they hate black ppl and ignore their own racialized minorities HENNYWAYSSSS a better ex is moonlight except moonlight isnt mainstream and is indie tho...still thru a funnel of capital bc a24 but who cares bleed the fuckers dry is my motto. my point is moonlight is both a great work and doesnt bring any failures to the table and its existence helps in ways outside of art but they arent the defining things giving us material advancement sooooo i mean it’s complex (this is my conclusion to everything um guys it’s complex)

er i had one more point in conjunction to above. oh yea so i like dont need all these extra things to make it progressive. like people really want more women in the show and i am honestly like i really dont. i dont want them to actively do this. if they cant do it naturally then let someone else do it. i am not asking for more bc i dont want it from them. when something comes along i embrace it but i do not see why women should be represented when the genre RELIES on patriarchy. there is no complete satisfying existence for the women in these series. i dont want it. i dont ask people to show us~*~* or respect~* like fuck no the people who make it make it and hopefully more will make it in the future but i will not beg bc THEY DONT WANT TO DO IT SO WOULD FORCING IT MAKE IT BETTER? just fucking leave them out entirely. that’s the answer if theyre gonna make nasty female characters then those bitches can geaux. we have other plcaes to be. booked. and. this DLC has me FUCKED UP and i keep screaming

spoilers for Bounty of Blood under the cut, keep reading at ur own peril. Also some Guardian Takedown spoilers for anyone who hasn’t beat it yet

tl;dr: a comparison between something taken from BL2 and a thing taken from Bounty of Blood. more spoilery tl;dr below the cut.

also the siren thing is not spoilers so i’ll share it here for anyone curious, it’s just this: siren tattoos are blue but when lily absorbs eridium in 2, they turn pinkish/purple. just like how vaults do from bl1 to bl2. they’re white/blue in bl1, then purple-pink in bl2 (and tps), y’know, after Eridium begins erupting from the ground. just a neat little detail i noticed that im not entirely sure was intentional but im gonna believe it is.

tl;dr: Gythian Blood = Core and the Ruiner is of Eridian Origin even tho everyone in the DLC likes to say it was created with Jakobs’ bioengineering. disclaimer: idk if I’ve found every hidden ECHO so I may be missing a few things but I have done every side quest and took ample screenshots of all important dialogue in the DLC : )

altho!!! there's a neat comparison between joey ultraviolet and rose. like obviously he wasn't getting tattoos and was just doing lines of crushed up eridium but the point stands they both have glowy eyes and unique powers so i don't necessarily think this means rose is a siren just because she has magic powers especially when we know she got the whistling passed down to her from her grandmother.

especially because we've never seen a siren interact with core before. altho that leaves the question we have seen core tattoos now what are eridium tattoos like? actually rose's tattoos were on her right arm obviously she isn't a siren as we know them right now (I saw a post on reddit where people thought rose was a siren)

of course that brings up the point perhaps siren tattoos ARE eridium tattoos. but then we hear the general's log about how the devil riders were tattooing a man with core and blood so obviously they're not ‘naturally’ occurring unlike siren tattoos. so odds are they're probably not equivalents but something interesting i thought of while thinking about this is how well siren tattoos compare to the Vaults from borderlands 1 and borderlands 2″

anyway. this is all ive been thinking about. yes yes i know guardian takedown post but! >:( im still salty even tho this update has been lovely (outside of Blane not getting his correct damage scaling ‘till today......). so i’ll do that at my own damn pace. now let me elaborate so i can sleep at night lmao

has mutating properties, mostly with imbuing elements into shit- possibly causes insanity

seems to be connected to another dimension, likely the one the Eridians are from

has a secondary form of Infused Core

has mutating properties, mostly regarding a thing’s body and mind

apparently radioactive

there are some things i wanna note

1) People throughout the DLC say the Ruiner was created by the Jakobs corp (the company) thru bio-engineering but I’m 99% sure that’s not true. The paperwork seems to me like they found the egg somewhere on Gehenna and decided to roll and experiment with it like all corporations do when they find weird alien shit. so maybe they experimented with whatever was inside the egg, but I don’t think they actually created it entirely

2) The Ruiner’s design reminds me a lot of the Warrior.

3) Core immediately reminded me of Gythian Blood from Guns Love and Tentacles and I don’t think that’s coincidence to have 2 back-to-back DLCs where the big bad is focused on green death juice. I think Gythian Blood and Core are of the same stuffs.

4) Therefore, I think the Ruiner is (mostly) of Eridian origin (if you haven’t already guessed).

This gives us an amazing look into how the Eridians actually create their beasts!!! And I’m so happy they showed us this.

(side note, Interitus Regina (the long name for Ruiner) literally means Destruction Queen and I think that’s beautiful <3)

i mean the idea that they plunge them from orbit to create an explosion similar to a nuke is fucking horrifying (but holy shit I love it so much ahhh it’s so cool!!!!)

the one side line from Oletta about how the company couldn’t control the Ruiner deffo makes me double down on this theory. I’m not entirely sure how Rose’s grandma knew about the whistling (I don’t think I’ve found every echo log in that area YET), but I would bet it was part of the testing given how many fuckin’ tape players they have throughout the facility. The Warrior was controlled by verbal commands via Jack, so it’s possible that the Ruiner was intended to be controlled similarly, but Jakobs intervention (or something like the way Rose hatched it) fucked it up.

now we know the Warrior was created to protect the Vault of the Destroyer (hmm.) so what the heck was the Ruiner created for? Ruiner is a name given to it by Jakobs/the people of Gehenna so we can’t really assume, but then again the monster names are pretty apt in this series even tho they probably technically shouldn’t be.

it was only an egg, so maybe it was another test of Core? A Vault Monster incubating until it was ready to protecc and attacc but was never hatched because the Eridians ��sacrificed’ themselves before it could? (I’m still not convinced the Eridians are the good guys. Listen. LISTEN. The guardian takedown is something to think about, BUT it doesn’t disprove that theory and I’ll stand by it because I 100% trust the Overseer more than bitchpants mcgee over here who thinks he’s soooo special for no reason fuck you and your dumb ‘I did what the Watcher could not’ bull you haven’t done shit.) ok sorry im done he just angers me. stupid guardian man. your whip is stupid and you should feel bad. oh also I totally called us actually being Guardians thru Guardian Rank before the game came out aha yeah.

I definitely think Gythian was a test/use of Core from the Eridians. We see in Bounty of Blood that core seems to mutate more the physical (and occasionally mental) parts of people, like with the crew challenges u do for Juno with all the weird hybrid people and whatnot. Gythian had the whole ‘the heart still beats’ thing going on (which is definitely a physical mutation if i’ve ever seen one), plus the whole, you know, mind control and shit. Which is p similar to what the menta gnats can do when charged with Infused Core. And keep in mind in BLaT we see DAHL notes on what happens to test subjects when injected with Gythian Blood. They mutated physically and went insane.

What im saying is Sirens and Eridium and Elements are connected, so what does Core equal? body/mind sure but are there unique creatures for core (yes holy shit I’m not talking about h2o au for once and FINALLY they gave us a canon name for the green stuff!!!). If not, I’d love to see a Siren interact with Core to see what it does to them. seriously why hasn’t tannis interrupted us yet. horrible excuse for a science lover (kidding kidding, I love her). I’d also really love a fuller rundown on what the hell Rose’s powers were. Because the whistling thing seemed to just be her grandma’s thingie passed down to her from her mom

but the core stuff

her gun seems to be infused with it. So did her sword thing. I didn’t really get a good look at it i was too busy trying to see thru my blurry tears of LOVE for this DLC.

Strangely while her tattoos are (mostly) green I actually don’t know if they’re core infused bc look at this

I’d love to know if the core gives her immediate future sight or just increased perception or reaction times. there’s a huge difference but she seemed to be able to shoot the gun outta the sheriff’s hand near immediately and it seems kinda implied its because of the core (or at least because her eyes are glowing green)

there’s a possibility she has some unique core powers/possibly implants because of her relations to the project in the first place, or as leader of the devil riders after looting the facility. it’s really hard to say without more info and like i said im not sure if i missed an ECHO or two or not regarding her backstory :(

Her hair is also green which I just noticed. Maybe she has core powers bc her grandmother got suuuuuuuuper irradiated/influenced working on project horizons and it passed down thru her n Rose’s mom, to Rose. Tannis does have a line about Sirens having unique hair colors and, if Sirens are linked to Eridium, perhaps those linked to Core also have unique hair color. Could also explain why only Rose seems to have those whistling powers. That said we don’t really see anyone else trying that whistling thing out afaik and idk if it was, like, a special ability or a certain tone/ditty or w h a t.

i know being vague with everything gives them more creative freedom to create amazing characters and scenarios, but dammit I want A N S W E R S.

All THAT said man I’m so glad magic is real in the borderlands universe. oh, sorry, “magic”. It’s magic. Science it, tannis, I dare you. either way, I win. Either it’s magic and H2O AU is canon, or it’s science and I finally get my goddamn answers. Hey gearbox can you make a book just explaining all the science and eridian stuff. please. I’d love you forever. please. pleaheheheheaaasseee it’s all i’ve ever wanted.

oh also can i just say, suuuper disappointed we didn’t learn anything about anshin. Really wish non-fan favorite corporations would get the spotlight/lore for once. Like, I like Jakobs as much as the next guy, and I get WHY they did it (can’t have a corporation looking too good!!!) but they now have 3 DLCs (Jakobs Cove, GLaT, and Bounty of Blood) and also a hefty chunk of the main game. Like... we all know Jakobs fuckin sucks, look at what they did on Pandora. I really just want info on a medical corporation 😭 I have to do everything my damn s e l f. but SERIOUSLY IMAGINE the possibilities that could come from a medical corp getting its hands on eridian tech. like, yeah obviously the weapons corps are gonna use it for weaponry and stuff BUT WOULDN’T THE MEDICAL CORPS MUTATING PEOPLE MAKE MORE SENSE??? ldfhgldfshg I have to do everything my damn self...

anyway all that aside, this is definitely by favorite borderlands dlc by a LONG shot. Nothing comes close. Ahhh the lore, the nuclear aspect, the a e s t h e t i c (seriously, have I mentioned how much I adore Trigun???), the art, the music, the cryoslinger, the fact I can bust out going beeEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAans like Ray Chase at any time and it will MAKE SENSE. I love all of it.

oh, also, Rose is totally not dead. C’mon, they couldn’t find her body. She pulled a Lilith. “Are you sure she didn’t just suffer a wound that LOOKS fatal, only for her to come back in a blockbuster sequel...?” is a line from mr Jones himself (the movie guy)

I just hope when she comes back she gets to meet Captain Scarlett. I’d love to watch their interactions plus pirates and or ninjas. That’s 2 DLC villains now that have vanished without a trace. And I like Captain Scarlett way more than Rose (seriously I spent the entire beginning of the DLC complaining about how her voice bothered me- I was so happy she was a villain, I was hoping that was the case).

oh yeah, reminder, the people of vestige were living next to highly radioactive egg for likely years. i feel really bad for them :(

OKAY. MAJOR SPOILERS UNDER THE CUT!!!!!THIS IS PRETTY MUCH THE WHOLE MAJOR PLOT. I WARNED YOU.

(I got all this from Char’s Twitch stream, btw. Watched it last night. Cried. Screamed. Ate my hands off. You know.)

This is going to be twins-centric because that’s just who I am as a person, but here’s how it goes:

After the cutscene where the twins steal Lilith’s power, you head to Promethea.

Maliwan!Zer0 is actually Katagawa.

(At some point, Maya joins the crew, I haven’t watched any Athenas gameplay actually. But she’s here during the next event, which is important.)

The Promethean Vault Monster is the Rampager. It has multiple elemental attack stages. Once you go in and come back out of the Vault, Maya is arguing with her apprentice Ava, who snuck along to fight even though she was told not to. The twins show up, take the remaining life force from the monster.

Maya and Ava try to leave. Ty grabs Ava, Maya phaselocks Troy so Tyreen lets go of Ava. TURNS OUT TROY CAN LEECH TOO! SO HE LEECHES MAYA. COMPLETELY DUSTS HER.

Tyreen seems surprised, saying “I thought you could only leech from me?” and it’s at this point that the power balance starts to shift.

So he can phaselock now.

Then you go to Eden-6. I missed a chunk from the arrival to the opening of the Eden-6 Vault.

The Eden-6 Vault is guarded by the Gravewarden, who has multiple attack phases and elements and can shift the area on a slant, so be careful. Once you kill it, Tannis shows up because she’s figured out a way to neutralize the power so that the twins can’t use it.

Tyreen whines about being hungry and Troy says you suck. You go into the Vault, and when you come back out, Tannis is suddenly phaselocked and teleported away by the twins.

This prompts a rescue mission back on Pandora - the Pain and Terror quest. Well. So Tannis is a siren. She manifested Angel’s abilities. So she makes it out of this okay.

Over the ECHOcomms, the twins start getting more interesting. Troy pushes his way into the spotlight, stepping on Tyreen’s toes, ignoring her, stealing her catchphrases, etc. He says he has a big surprise for you.

The next time you get to Sanctuary, you get to see this surprise.

TROY AMPS HIMSELF UP ON ERIDIUM AND PHASELOCKS THE MOON and starts pulling it toward Pandora because it turns out that the Great Vault? Is Pandora. It’s the whole planet. And Elpis is the key.

So naturally, the Raiders send you down to stop him. You fight your way through to the twins, Troy is getting increasingly angry and starts legitimately screaming over the ECHOcomm (which I only found hot, sorry not sorry); well, you manage to cut off his eridium supply, but uh oh, the moon is still being charged?

YEAH. HE’S LEECHING FROM TYREEN TO CHARGE THE FUCKING MOON. I CAN’T MAKE THIS SHIT UP. (If I had, it would be better.)

This cues his boss fight. He has beautiful red wings. He’s so fucking gorgeous.Tyreen is screaming the entire time, saying that Troy’s going to kill her. He mostly ignores her.

Once you land the killing blow, it triggers a short cutscene where Troy staggers toward Ty (already on the ground) and says “Ty…we…almost…made it” and then he dies.

Lilith, Tannis, and Ava come in. Ava touches Troy’s arm. Her siren powers manifest. Lilith says they never belonged to him anyway. :(

AND THEN TYREEN GETS UP. She looks down at Troy and says “Troy….you did it.” And then puts her hands on his head AND FOR A SECOND I WAS EXPECTING A RESURRECTION BUT SHE FUCKING DUSTS HIM. VAPORIZED. BYE TROY I NEVER GOT TO HOLD YOU OR PET YOUR HAIR OR [REDACTED].

She takes the cam-bot out of his arm, which is the only part of him left, and makes a very peppy, very determined broadcast…..and then smashes the camera and disappears.

Time to go to the Eridian homeworld, as it’s the only way to shut down the Great Vault opening.

Once on the final planet that I forgot the name of, you meet up with Typhon DeLeon, who’s been stranded there for decades. As you fight through Eridians and Maliwan to do what you’ve gotta do, you learn the backstory.

Typhon and his wife Leda crashed on this planet. She was pregnant. She had twins. “The boy was always sick and the girl talked circles around me.”

Yeah. Those twins.

Typhon thought they would like staying on this planet, but they saw it as a prison and left - some time after their mother had died. Typhon regrets keeping them there, says he shouldn’t have told them the stories about the Great Vault, says he feels remorse for what they’ve become.

I was crying a lot.

You apologize for killing Troy and he says something like “I’m sorry about my boy but I’m glad he can’t hurt people anymore.” Fam. Fam my eyes are just water.

Through the fighting, Tyreen gives you little tidbits on their childhood, and the one that killed me was how she mentioned stargazing with Troy, who said that they would shine brighter than the stars. Flat-out sobbing by this point.

There’s at least one ECHO log I saw that’s from the twins as they fixed up the ship to leave the planet, I’m sure there’s more scattered around. If we find some of them as really little kids, I’m going to cliff dive without a bungee.

Just as you start to close The Great Vault, Tyreen shows up. There’s a confrontation, Typhon restrains her….she fights him…and kills him. And fucks off to complete her mission to become a god.

Tannis opens a portal back to Pandora, you’re transported to The Great Vault. Tyreen BECOMES the Destroyer and it’s honestly grotesque. There’s a vaguely Shadow of the Colossus style fight with her and then…it’s over.

There’s some talking. The moon is still too close to the planet. Lilith makes the executive decision to take that into her own hands and flies into the moon and…….becomes a firehawk moon shield? I’m still not sure.

UM. YEAH BUT IT WAS A LOT AND I’M NEGLECTING SELF-CARE BECAUSE I DON’T KNOW HOW TO HEALTHILY COPE WITH PIXEL BASTARDS THANKS FOR COMING TO MY TED TALK.

It isn’t wrong, but it is interesting that ‘can you be a good girl’ is what a lot of you replied to throughout this. is it because it’s the most convenient place, being at the end; because it feels weird commenting on the actual violence; or because the emotional manipulation is the straw that breaks the camel’s back?

As you well know, this is something I have to work hard to convince myself, hence the soapbox. (Can it be a soapbox if you have trouble holding the soapbox’s beliefs?) It doesn’t help that I do charity work at a bookstore, and Torey Hayden / Cathy Glass / other trauma-porn books come in on the regular - it’s hard to be confident in the legitimacy of how Mum’s affected me when stories that feature kids who’ve been utterly decimated and forgotten over the years are in my line of sight that often.

Incidentally, I hope I haven’t crossed the line to trauma-porn here. This is intended to be an explanation for part of Lorelei’s backstory and why she has a lot of the mannerisms she does (plus a few hints for down the road, but that first thing first and foremost) - obviously making you sad is a goal too, but not to an exploitative extent, you know?

I’m not sure where else to put this yet, but designing Estelle was almost as much - not necessarily fun, but it took about as much thought as designing Amelia did back in the day. I think she’s quite handsome, but it’s ruined by her looking almost perpetually sour/disgruntled. I even employed another Enid Blyton trick: her eyes are closer together compared to my other Sims, and a pale blue, much like Prudence from another St Clare’s book. Until they (Prudence’s) turned brown in a later scene in one of the few legitimate continuity errors I’ve seen from Enid but that’s neither here nor there

I’d also like to emphasise an actually salient point: if it wasn’t clear, Estelle isn’t mentally ill in any way that I know of. There may be neuroses there that never got diagnosed, but they're not the root of her behaviour even if there are. She’s reprehensible enough without chemical imbalances there to influence it.

I understand rationally that Colby is a victim of abuse but /damn/ does he make my blood boil rn

I in turn understand why you’d be angry at him - he allowed a very volatile influence back into Lorelei’s life - but honestly I mostly feel pity for him. He’s a bit like, um... what’s a good comparison...? Charlie Swan feels like the closest analogue, though the circumstances are different there. He can try to lay down some rules and speak the truth of it, but when the largest female influence in the house is this dominant, this domineering, and cares more about what he can do for her than what he chooses to do for himself, what chance does he have?

It doesn’t help that being willing to please and put his own neck on the line to keep other people happy is kind of a core part of his personality - he’s the person from whom Lorelei inherited the Good trait (much like Amelia got Perfectionist from Maus), but his manifestation of Good leans more towards Doormat than Empathetic, if you see what I mean. It becomes especially clear if I reveal and then you consider he dropped out of college at twenty halfway through a tech degree specifically to marry Estelle so that she could have someone to keep her company at medical school. Self sabotage for the boosting of others.

what’s of most concern is this man’s tendency to pursue teenage partners despite being well into his 20s and nearing his 30s. this perhaps wouldn’t be so concerning if he didn’t start his pursuits when these vulnerable (mostly trans boys, either pre-transition or as they transition it seems) teenagers who either aren’t 18 yet or are just recently 18. while not illegal, there is something very disturbing about a 28 year old man who repeatedly targets teenagers. he is not engaging in these relationships without knowing the ages or age gaps, he has admitted he knows just how old his partners are when he first starts seeking them out. these are not false allegations. there have been lengthy, emotionally devastating conversations with his past partners. he appears to use to fandom, online communities and groups, friendship, and roleplay to lure (there are other instances of similar posts throughout his blog) these teenagers in and then fosters a friendship with them that then he turns into a (sexual) relationship. there are several other links and screenshots throughout this post where he admits he enjoys age gaps as well.

(for those who do not know what some of these terms mean: roleplay is where two or more person’s write from the view point of certain characters from different mediums. it can vary from safe for work content or sexually explicit content.

“fandom” refers to collective fans of different medium, shows, games, books etc.)

it seems the fandoms in particular are snk, homestuck, the mcelroys brother’s content and dragon age. the first two seem as though he’s not into them anymore, but they’re worth noting. also vulture culture, norse mythology, werewolves and witchcraft but those two aren’t fandom just communities more or less.

he also appears to use okcupid, tinder and other date applications and websites to find people who meet his marks so be aware if you use such things or know people who do.

any adult man who has repeatedly displayed this behavior around teenagers should not be tolerated or excused for these actions. i would have liked to not put words in the reader’s mouth but repeated offenses like this have only one word: predatory. he should not be fostering friendships with teenagers, particularly ones who are minors. he should not be allowing minors to follow his blog. he should not be talking with them in private through skype or text or email or any other venue. he has reblogged provocative illustrated art of minors before which is disturbing given his inclinations. yes to be just, there are only two instances but they are there. there are images below which contain beastiality and as confirmed by others, he is sexually interested in scenarios involving animals beyond fiction and should not be around those either to be frank. even if you would like to wish that purely fictional interests don’t necessarily translate into real life pursuits, he has already demonstrated he’s willing to sexually and coercively pursue minors. the at the time 17 year old he dated still bears deep and lasting psychological scars from their “relationship” with him.

be aware that much of this is just the things we know of now that were made public through his blog.

i sincerely hope that the information below gives anyone pause before they continue interacting with and supporting lawrence. these are not matters that could or should be waved away or excused with “but his current boyfriend is 18/over 18.” this isn’t a one off event or cause of concern and trying to excuse his behavior makes the excuser just as much to blame for his actions.

his lines clearly are crossed between reality and fiction and his fictional pursuits clearly have already endangered vulnerable youth and left unchecked, he stands to harm future youth as well.

#i actually #agree with a lot of this! #so for yall who dont know im from texas- so i cant really talk to the appalachia part of it #but im from texas and while i currently live in a well off suburb in dallas a good portion of my childhood was spent in towns #that are more like rose hill than anything #im probably guilty of this in my own writing just because i dont often address the actual nitty gritty of it all #but i really do agree with this a lot especially the part about scholarships and hand outs #as for the harley/peter portion of it i have a little different opinion but thats mostly based on: #i really really love the fact that we get to see dorky platonic nerd friendships between two characters (peter and ned) #that have a lot of softness to them and cuddling and other aspects like that- that arent romantic??? #like it matters that we show boys and people that male friendships CAN be touchy feely without being gay #however that may also just be the fact that ive grown up in a family of boys who /arent/ very you know #‘i can be soft with friends!’ and are a lot more ‘if a guy friend touches me he’s a FAGG*T and we’re no longer friends’ #my brothers gotten better about it since college but still #just as someone whose extended family is poor and southern (albiet not appalachian) and whose family is in a much better place financially #than the rest of their family its nice to see someone talk about classism and issues like that #normally if i write a fic thats focusing on rose hill its based a loy about my experiences in [Redacted] where my grandparents live #and the stigmas i face around there. #anyway #food for thought (via @peachy-keener)

Thoughts on Harley Keener?

I love harley! and I don't mind the "he moves to nyc/MIT for better opportunities" storyline, but people don't seem to realize that classism is a thing that heavily impacts their view of the south, and it shows when they write harley. a lot.

it's hard for me to find a fic that doesn't have mentions of "the people are so much better here" or just.. vague mentions of low-class things that are seen in a bad light while the author also acts like tony is a totally normal person, or they write that harley is happy that he knows tony bc he's willing to help him with finances. I don't think he wouldn't be, but I haven't met a single lower class person who isn't at least a little wary of receiving help from people who are better off bc it reads as and is charity. also, people tend to go the "tony funds his education" storyline instead of the "harley is really smart and got a scholarship" storyline, which I'm personally way more comfortable with as someone who lives in a rose-hill-esque town with people and families similar to Harleys. bc this is a Personal Issue but like, harley is like me. we come from the same area, the same culture, bc appalachia does in fact have a culture, but I only ever see harley defying whatever southern values that people seem to think needs defying, while they also keep his charming accent and how he loves his momma and his boots and cowboy hat. but whatever

and I have an issue with harley/peter bc one, peter has friends literally right there and authors are doing gymnastics to get the other white boy that's his age up to nyc, and mcu peter is upper class and I don't like how, once again, people gloss over that and also write harley as this poor little not-rich boy from, oh god, the south. I'm tired of the classism and the stereotypes that people always have harley "defy".

there are ways to write harley, have him interact with tony and peter, and not be so casually classist about it. but people have to accept that tony and peter are rich (and northeastern, which is another discussion entirely but it does in fact once again center around classism) in order to do that, and accept that not-rich people are in fact not inherently bigoted and uneducated, and that's uncomfortable to people.

that being said I love him and there are a lot of fics with him that I love and I know that people make mistakes and don't realize what they're doing is kinda mmm stereotyping and I can't really say much about harley/peter bc I'm white but like.. I can talk about classism and there's a lot of it in the marvel fandom, and not just with tony stans.
