"Arisu! You are a coward!" Karube shouted violently, swinging the ax against the tree as the sharpened end nearly hit Kaki.

Jumping back, she looked at the blonde before taking the weapon from his hand.

"Insulting him won't do anything!" She hissed, tossing the ax aside before stepping closer to her husband.

Not much was said, but Kaki gently trailed her shaky hands up Karube's chest before resting her fingers on the collar. She had accepted her fate the second the wolf was taken from her…

Looking down for a moment, Kaki allowed her hands to drop as she took a hold of Karube's before grazing her finger over his wedding ring.

"Sit with me?" She requested softly, guiding him to the fallen log before helping the blonde sit.

The sudden change in his expression only made it clear that Karube was beginning to accept his fate… If he lived, that would mean both Kaki and his child would die…

And if she lived, they both knew Kaki would let that Visa expire…

While his hand instantly moved to her abdomen, the slight movement of the life they had in the making caused his heart to wrench as Kaki laid next to the boy.

Using his lap as a pillow, Kaki didn't frown or cry… In fact, she smiled as she looked up at the man she had fallen in love with in preparation of him being the last thing she saw.

"Chota!!! Karube!!! Kaki!!!" Arisu could be heard in the distance, but his cries were drowned out by her thoughts.

"Akio…" Kaki said softly, moving her hand to rest on Karube's.

"Daikichi Akio was what I wanted to name him…" She informed Karube, feeling like he deserved to know after the constant begging.

"Akio…" he repeated, smiling slightly at the name…

"Karube!!" Arisu cried, this time his voice much louder causing the two to glance over at the frantic boy.

"Behind you…" Karube said, glancing down at Kaki as his eyes locked with hers.

Five…

"Arisu… Live on for us…" Chota's voice cracked through the headphones.

Four…

"You have the best chances…" Kaki said, not even looking in the direction of the boy as her eyes stayed locked with the teary yet relieved eyes of her husband.

Three…

"Arisu…" Karube began, a sigh passing his lips as he tightened his grip on Kaki.

Two…

"Thank you…" He added shortly after, only able to smile as he looked at Kaki.

One…

BANG!

The sound was deafening as Arisu was forced to witness two of his three friends fall lifeless in front of him.

Blood covered his face as Arisu stood there in absolute shock before falling to his knees. The feeling was unbearable, world crushing as he screamed…

The sound of Arisu's cries was the only thing that could be heard throughout the entire arena, echoing until his cried turned silent…

tyl (kakie) - this is like the exact vibe I’m feeling right now you completely hit the nail on the head - also mentions the moon my one true love - favorite line: ‘I tried so hard not to love that I fell anyway but kept away’ - took me until 2/3 through the song to realize tyl stands for true young lovers lol

paper planes (beauregard and thomas ng) - really grooved with this one in a lowkey way - I like that it’s relaxing - favorite line: ‘now you got my folding paper planes so we can fly to outer space’

so low (moonfall) - favorite lines: ‘but your memory is faceless, I know you, but I don’t know who you are’ / ‘though I don’t know what it sounds like I could swear that I heard your voice’ - just really love this idea of the familiarity of someone you don’t know

city lights (bittermilk) - another one I grooved to I like the beat a lot - I LOVE her voice - favorite part is the whole first verse, there’s something I love about driving late at night with the windows down when I need to feel something - favorite single line: ‘I wish that dead-ends were harder to find’ sometimes I specifically drive to try to get lost and find that I can pretty much always find my way back so I like the contradiction between not getting lost driving-wise but feeling like dead-ends are everywhere general-life-wise - this is the one that resonated with me the most

i just wanted you (openside) - this is 100% a song that I will sing and dance to in my room with no regard for tonal accuracy or good dance moves, just wanting to enjoy it (added to my solo dance party playlist) - favorite line: ‘caught me off guard and I love the way it feels’

ippiki ookami/ lone wolf (yuki akira) - not sure how accurate the translation I found is but my favorite line is ‘I’ll remain as I am and you’ll stay as you are’ - also relating a lot to ‘wishing to change but only time passes, while the future and myself remain the same’ - this one was the most branching-out song on the list, I like the lyrics and overall feel of it

LANTAS, SIAPA?

HARI ini akhir pekan, orangtuaku tengah berada di luar rumah, meninggalkanku seorang diri bersama saudari kembarku—— yang sedang asik sendiri di dalam kamar. Tak apa, lagipula aku berniat habiskan waktu ‘tuk menonton di ruang keluarga.

Aku menuangkan cairan kental berwarna cokelat ke dalam gelas berisikan es balok, lantas membawanya menuju ruang keluarga. Entah mengapa, aku lebih suka menonton di sini dibandingkan kamarku sendiri.

Pilihanku kali ini jatuh kepada serial berjudul Teen Wolf, salah satu dari beberapa yang tak pernah bosan kutonton meski acapkali aku putar. Memang sudah menjadi kebiasaanku; memutar ulang film yang aku sukai.

Setelah beberapa menit dwinetra fokus dengan layar datar di hadapan, runguku tangkap suara bel rumah dibunyikan. Aku berdecak sebal, merasa sangat terganggu. Ingin rasanya aku abaikan, tetapi tidak mungkin.

Akhirnya aku bangkit dari posisiku lantas membukakan pintu utama. Setelah berhasil terbuka, aku mendapati satu sosok gadis yang tidak dikenal.

    “Ini betul rumah Akasha?”

Si gadis bersua lebih dulu. Ah, rupanya menanyakan Akasha——saudari kembarku.

              “Betul. Mau bertemu                 dengan Akasha?”

    “Iya, sudah ada janji       mau pergi bersama.”

Aku menganggukkan kepalaku; mengerti dengan ucapannya. Seingatku pula, beberapa hari lalu Akasha pernah berkata bahwa ia akan pergi bersama temannya akhir pekan ini.

    “Tunggu sebentar, ya.       Saya panggilkan Akasha.”

Aku kembali masuk ke dalam rumah, menghampiri kamar yang berada di lantai dua. Aku mengetuk pintu, seraya memanggilnya dengan volume suara cukup keras.

    “Anyaaaa! Temenmu      sudah datang, tuh!”

Sekon kemudian, aku dapati jawaban dari dalam bilik.

    “Iya, tunggu sebentar.”

Aku tak membalas, hanya mengangguk seraya kembali turun ke lantai bawah guna menghampiri sang tamu.

Tepat saat aku menginjak anak tangga terakhir, ponselku berbunyi, buatku segera meraihnya dari atas sofa. Sebelah alisku naik saat terdapat nama kontak saudariku pada layar ponsel, meminta panggilan video.

Anya pasti membutuhkan sesuatu, batinku. Lantas dengan segera menerima panggilan video tersebut.

    “Kenap—“

Ucapanku terhenti karena layar ponselku hanya menampilkan warna hitam. Jua, tak ada suara apapun yang terdengar.

Setelah menunggu beberapa saat dan tetap tidak ada perubahan, aku memutuskan panggilan. Mungkin ponselnya hanya tidak sengaja tertekan. Lalu aku kembali berjalan ke luar, menemui teman Akasha.

Dari kejauhan, dapat kulihat si gadis tengah bercengkrama via telfon. Setelah menyadari kedatanganku, ia memutuskan sambungan panggilan lantas tersenyum ramah kepadaku.

    “Temanku baru saja telfon,       Katanya, Akasha sudah lebih dulu       sampai di tempat tujuan.”

    “Oh, iya, Akasha titip pesan bahwa       ponselnya tertinggal di kamarnya.”

    “Kalau begitu, saya permisi dulu, ya?       Terima kasih banyak.”

Aku menatap bingung ke arah gadis tersebut, masih berusaha memahami penjelasannya walau ia sudah berlalu dari hadapanku.

Sebentar, apa maksudnya?

Akasha lebih dulu sampai? Ponsel tertinggal di kamar?

Sungguh, tidak mudah untukku mengerti ucapannya.

Setelah beberapa menit terdiam di depan pintu rumah, aku baru mengerti dengan apa yang baru saja terjadi. Mataku terbelalak, kepalaku seketika pusing.

Kalau Akasha sudah lebih dulu pergi dari rumah, lantas siapa yang menjawabku tadi?

Lalu, bagaimana dengan panggilan video tadi?

Bulu kudukku seketika naik, membayangkan sesuatu yang tidak baik. Namun, karena sangat penasaran, kupaksakan diri ‘tuk kembali naik menuju kamar Akasha.

    “Anya?” panggilku.

Hening. Tak ada jawaban.

    “Anya?” panggilku sekali lagi, dengan volume suara yang lebih keras dari sebelumnya.

Hasilnya tetap sama, hening tanpa ada jawaban.

Aku memberanikan diri untuk membuka pintu bilik itu. Tidak terkunci, rupanya. Aku menyembulkan kepalaku guna melihat isinya.

Kosong. Tak ada siapapun di dalamnya.

Dengan begitu aku melangkahkan kedua tungkai memasuki ruangan.

Dwinetraku menemukan sebuah ponsel di atas meja nakas.

Betul, itu milik Akasha.

Sekon selanjutnya, runguku tangkap suara tawa yang berasal dari pojok ruangan, tepat di depan jendela.

Ada sosok yang 'tak kukenali, menampilkan wajahnya yang pucat dengan ujung bibir yang terlihat sedikit robek jua telapak kaki yang melayang. Dan 𝙙𝙞𝙖 sedang tertawa lebar; lebih tepatnya, menertawakanku.
