“dad, why is my sister named Marsha?”
“because your mother’s favorite song is Marsha, Thankk You for the Dialectics, but I Need You to Leave.”
“oh, thanks dad!”
“no problem, son with five names.”

mcdanno - a study in touch (with a little help from quora)
Steve isn't a particularly touchy-feely person before he meets Danny and even after him initiating physical contact is usually very precise and deliberate. He ushers Danny the way one does with a date. A wooing and guiding gesture.
When it comes to Danny, Steve is all of those things: protective, possessive, reassuring. He lets Danny know he's got his back and he really means it, as evidenced by above caps from 7x17 when Danny was babbling and embarrassed but couldn't stop himself so Steve stepped in and interrupted him fondly. Having his back doesn't just mean in a life or death situation, it's all the little things too. Based on body language alone it's obvious Steve has feelings for Danny and isn't shy about showing them.

Clare is mischaracterized a lot lowkey because I think people love Clare for being an anxious lesbian so much that they instinctively craft a more palatable version of that trait onto her and it’s a shame because Clare is a fascinating little beastie. She is childhood friends with the likes of Erin and Michelle for a reason after all. She is arguably just as selfish as Erin /affectionate and just as impulsive as Michelle /affectionate it just is formed around the insane molten hot anxiety disorder inside her little lesbian brain. She thinks she’s better than them when in reality she is just as bad.
I’d argue she stays selfish /affectionate longer than Erin does. Until the final two episodes I fully believe Clare would have sold any of them up the river for a corn chip if that corn chip would save her skin. It’s often said that Clare and James hold the single brain cell but I think the truth is likely that Orla holds it and they just forgot to use it or hand it to someone cause they were going ham on a bag of sweets.
If you hate Erin for her selfish traits and just kinda forget that Clare is just as bad then idk what to tell you they’re birds of a feather.

thinking about how the song with five names and hand me my shovel, i'm going in! are intrinsically connected.
how the former is a warning call to the singer of the latter. you can break a shovel if you break new ground, it cries. quit while you're ahead. stop before you learn something about yourself you regret. and the other says, heaven sent me. i'm untouchable. this is all i am meant to do now. hand me my shovel.
how the latter is a desperate plea to the singer of the former. this is not enough, it cries. i need to hit the bottom. come with me. don't be afraid of altering your worldview, even if it's uncomfortable. and the other says, gimme that old time religion. i will never change. i would rather accept a belief i know to be implausible than recognize who i really am. it's good enough for me.
thinking about how both of the singers are wrong. neither of their views are beneficial to their lives, but they stay stubborn. one uses introspection as a form of self-harm and the other ignores introspection as a form of self-harm. self-sabotage versus ignorance. in the end, both of their minds will snap. both will cave under the weight they've put onto their own backs. it's just a matter of how they get there.
