Woodswoman by Anne Labastille ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
“I hoped that a withdrawal to the peace of nature might remedy my despair.”
“True, some trees get blown over by storms; some stars burn out; some people encounter crippling misfortunes of health or finances. But the forest remains; the skies keep twinkling; and human beings keep striving.”
Genre: nonfiction, memoir
Country: USA
Review:
I expected this to be similar to Pam Houston’s Deep Creek, I think. There were similarities, but the writing styles were definitely very different. I find Labastille’s writing to be more matter of fact. She was very to the point. Also, while I know this memoir was mostly based around her life at her cabin, I was left with a lot of questions regarding her life before and away from the cabin.
I appreciated the hopefulness and love of nature throughout the book. Anne Labastille is an inspiration to women and outdoors people. Overall, I enjoyed this book, but not as much as I had expected. However, I will definitely read her other books.
Would I recommend this book?: Maybe, but it’s definitely not for everyone.

I'm visiting my sister for the holidays, and The Wizard of Oz is on. I remember I had some old doodles of a related thing I made way back when I made this blog hopped up on 4 bottles of cold medicine at the time and had a dream of Murdoc riding his bass like a witch. Maybe someone will at least find them amusing?
... I kinda wish I was joking when I say there are a couple more of these I drew, but I don't have them saved on hand. There's some I'm still nervous about showing. Including a sona version I share with a friend (2-D in the same role just with 2 stu simps joining him instead.) I'd like to finish these someday for shits and giggles.
Sorry for the constant unfinished stuff.
#gorillaz#2d gorillaz#stuart pot#russel hobbs#murdoc niccals#noodle gorillaz#i adore the movie but the book is where its at tbh#maybe its a bad au idea but... fuck it.#i love mashing comfort things with eachother#managed to find a more finished version of the first image- sorry#if anyone is curious- Ace is the scarecrow and Cyborg is Tin Woodsman/woodswoman#also had a design for adult/phase 7 Noodle as glinda too.#For the wizard- Damon and Jamie both play the part. The sign atop the arch was painted in bright primary blue and yellow; it featured a crudely daubed image of smiling dead bodies, atop which in bold capital letters was written: ‘Corpse Market!’
A stooped cloaked figure stepped under the arch. From beneath her hood, big wide eyes looked up at the market’s many stalls. Each was decorated in that same style: vibrant colours, cheery signs, enlivened with cheerful drapes of dyed cotton. And behind the swathed smiles of drapery hung row after row of the dead.
Frost clung to the bodies; though amidst the jolly decor, you would be forgiven for thinking someone had decorated them with shining pale glitter.
The cloaked figure stopped to read a placard hung on one of the stalls. It was illustrated with a woman stepping out of a coffin and giving the viewer a big thumbs up. The text read: “Give a hard-working adventurer a raise!”
As if from nowhere, the market’s proprietor appeared.
“Greetings!” They wore a sleek black frock coat and pressed white breeches, with a blood-red neckerchief providing a pop of colour at the throat. “Are you looking for anyone in particular?
“I was told that, uh, I might be able to find my … my sister here?” stumbled the cloaked wanderer. “What- uh- what is this place?”
“Why, ‘tis as the sign says!” chirped the proprietor. “We are a market of corpses. The physical shells of bold souls who explored the dangerous highs and lows of the world. ‘To help you avoid your final rest and instead achieve new personal bests.’ That’s our motto!”
“You, um, you sell dead people?”
“In a way. It’s more that we provide resurrection services. But plenty of these mighty heroes don’t have people looking for them, sadly. Strays, you see.” The proprietor patted the frozen leg of a cadaver covered in leather and knives as they spoke. “So if you pay the costs of bringing them back, we put that cost as a downpayment against future adventuring services. So can I interest you in a rescue adventurer? You look like the bookish sort, so maybe you need a strapping defender to keep you safe?”
“I’m really only looking for one, you know, one dead person in particular.”
“Of course, you did say. A sister, was it? Let me check our records.” The proprietor produced, from the aether, a huge tome bound in tan hide of some sort. “What was her name?”
“Ava. Ava is- *was* her name.” said the wanderer, softly.
The proprietor’s eyes rolled back into their head and a sudden gust of wind rustled through the pages of the tome. The shadows in the market seemed to lengthen and the multicoloured drapery whipped around them.
“Ah.” The fell wind quelled suddenly and the proprietor’s eyes returned to normal. “I’m afraid we have no Ava currently. My deepest condolences for your present loss.”
“Oh.”
“Are you sure I can’t interest you in someone else instead? A dashing cavalier? A righteous templar? I can do you a deal on a rugged woodswoman - if someone doesn’t take her in the next few days, we’ll have to put her down. In the ground, that is.”
“What? Why?” the wanderer exclaimed, equal parts confused by and caught up in the proprietor’s spiel.
“I can only keep their souls from crossing over for so long, I’m afraid. I’m good with guiding the dead, but even I have my limits.” For a moment, the proprietor seemed very strange; their face too long and too sharp, a shriek hidden beneath their soft voice. Then they slapped the cheerful mask back on. “You know what they say: styx and stones may take my bones, but wards can barely hold me.”
The wanderer thought for a moment.
“Alright. I’ll pay for the woodswoman.”
“You will?” The proprietor’s eyes lit up.
“Yes.” said the cloaked wanderer. “After all, if Ava isn’t here … I may need help finding her.”

If you are from a country with Christian traditions, you probably know about the celebration of Epiphany, the "king cake", and the tradition of the "fève". You know: the "fève", as we call it in France, is this little figurine, this tiny statuette that is hidden in the king-cake. And whoever gets it is crowned king or queen of the day.
France has a big Epiphany tradition, and is also very, very big on fèves. You've got tons and tons of various series and models depending on the time period and area. There's old classics, there's vintage models, there's rarities not found anywhere, there's novelties responding to modern-day movies. You have fèves depicting all sorts of subjects and themes ; and entire collections and museums dedicated to fèves.
Fairy tales are, of course, one of the big subjects of fèves. I find it quite interesting to look at the fève series adapting fairytales. Well, you have to avoid a lot of series which are explicitely derived from either Disney or Shrek (there's a LOT of Disney and Shrek fèves), and you get several lines of fèves directly working from the original stories.
For example, look at this first series. "Les contes de notre enfance", "The fairytales of our childhood". Contains Little Red Riding Hood, Sleeping Beauty, The Frog Prince, The King of the Golden Mountain, Snow-White, Cinderella, Puss in Boots and King Thrushbeard.
Here is a "Puss in Boots" line, including Puss in Boots, The Princess, the Marquis of Carabas, the Ogre, the King, the Lion, the Mouse and the Carriage.
"Comptines des rois" - "Nursery rhymes of the King". A quite large collection, which includes Little Red Riding Hood, Peter Pan, Alice (of Wonderland), the Beast (from Beauty and the Beast), Riquet with the Tuft, Snow-White, Little Thumbling, Sleeping Beauty, Aladin, Mowgli (from The Jungle Book), one of the Three Little Pigs, Puss in Boots, The Little Mermaid, Pinocchio and Cinderella.
Here is a different Puss in Boots line - with an introduction fève with the title, a castle-fève, 2 different Puss in Boots, the Ogre, the Mouse, the Princess, "the Prince", the Carriage and the horses going with the carriage.
Another "Les Contes de notre Enfance" line, different from the one before. Includes Little Thumbling, Cinderella, Puss in Boots, Bluebeard, Donkey Skin, Little Red Riding Hood, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, Little Mermaid and Beauty & the Beast.
A "Little Red Riding Hood" line - with two different Riding Hoods, four different Wolves, a Granny, the Basket, the Little House, and the Hunter.
A "Little Thumbling" line, including: "The Little Thumbling", "Pierrot", "The Twins", "The Ogre", "The Ogre's Wife", "The Woodsman", "The Small Ogress", "The Woodswoman", "The King", "The Princess".
Yet another "Little Red Riding Hood" line with: 2 Little Red Riding Hoods, a Wolf (+ a "Wolf as Grandma"), a Grandma, a Hunter, a Woodsman, a Mother, a Granny's House, plus a fève for the Galette and the Butter.
Finally, a Cinderella line. Includes: 2 different Cinderellas, a Prince, a Carriage, the Stepmother, the two sisters of Cinderella, the Fairy, and the Pumpkin (includes the mice). Plus a "glass slipper" fève.

Mari had joined her older sister and grandmother. She was too weak to carry wood, let alone do any of the cutting or felling of trees, so she busied herself with the fruits of summer. The entire forest was in deep bloom and the scents of ripened berries mingled pleasantly.
Mary meanwhile worked as she had done for the last 30 years. Today was a little different. She chopped with anger. Winter was 2 seasons away, and yet the woodswoman felt the urgency of replenishing her stock. Much was on her mind, making her cuts rough and uneven.

SIX SENTENCE SUNDAY
“We’re looking for The Woodswoman. Woods Woman. The woman who tells men’s fortunes to help guide them on their quests.” “Exclusively men?” the mean, squinty-eyed one snorted. “That’s what you think we do here? Our sole purpose in life is to wait for big, strong men to come tripping along the path so we can graciously help them, asking nothing in return, simply because our soft, female hearts are so full of tenderness?” “Gansey,” Ronan hissed. “This is a bad idea. I think they might cook and eat us.”

To everyone, what is the worst pronounciation of your own name you've ever heard?
Stewart: "I know it's not me, but I've called MT a few different things. There is "mmpt", "empt", and my personal favorite, "emm-tee"! He hates it, which makes it even funnier! I've never heard someone mispronounce my name, though."
Hariet: "People don't really pronounce my name wrong, but I do remember people spelling my name wrong. People kept spelling my name with two Ls, even though my name only has one! Nowadays I get a variety of names; the creature, Hariet, the hare, Maiche, the woodswoman, stuff like that."
Emar: "Uhh, I don't hear people say my name a lot, but when they do, it is either "em-arr", or "Emer". I don't think either one is bad.."
Roy: "One time I was havin' some small talk with this guy who over-pronounced the Y in my name. It was like.. "RoYE" and it was so annoying."
Larry: "I'd be surprised if someone were to pronounce my name wrong."
Morton: "MORTON HEARS "MORE-TON" AND "MORE-TIN". MORTON FINE WITH BOTH."
Iggy: "Anyone who pronounces my name wrong would be STUPID. It has THREE letters!"
Lemmy: "Hmmm... not that I remember! My name is easy to pronounce!"
Ludwig: "People mispronounce my name all the time. I swear if I hear another "luhdwig" I'm going to lose it."
Junior: "Eh, most people just call me "junior", so I don't have problems with that."
Bowser: "Nobody has mispronounced my name! Not that I've heard, at least. People talk about me a lot, so everyone seems to learn the correct pronunciation from each other."
Silvea: "The spelling of my name seems to confuse people. A couple of times, I heard people say "sil-vea", like "pea". Other times, people spell my name like "silvia" or "sylvia"."
Dieter: "I have the feeling that hardly anyone knows how to pronounce my name right. I don't really care though. That is such an insignificant problem."

Plot/ Open Starters
Some ideas for rp starters. Message me or send me a title if you’re interested.
“Witness Protection Plot”
Muse A has been placed in witness protection because they’re needed to testify against a life threatening criminal. They’re given to Muse B, a ruff and gruff detective who plays by his own rules and has been shot at too many times. Instead of protecting Muse A, Muse B drags them along to solve this case themself. ❎
“Battered Hero Plot”
Muse A is a HUGE fan of the local legend of a superhero hanging around where they live. One day they find this hero bloody, beaten up, and bruised. Muse A pulls their mask off to see Muse B, a kid in their class. What does Muse A do?
(Muse A can be a classmate, a friend, a teacher, a boyfriend/ girlfriend, Muse B’s bully, Muse B’s EX, etc.) (Can be nsfw) ❎
“Grumpy Old Man Plot”
Muse A is a caretaker to a grumpy old man, Muse B. They don’t always see eye to eye, but Muse B is always upfront and speaks the harsh truth to Muse A. Muse B seems to have an answer to EVERYTHING in the universe. From ethics, to war, to cars, to relationships, Muse B has an answer. ❎
“Return Of The Hero Plot”
In the mystic world of dragons, knights, and other beings, bad times are back. The dark evil sealed away many years ago is freed, and back with a vengeance. Muse A, a young hero/ heroine, must do something to stop them. They seek the help of the last remaining hero, Muse B, who helped seal the evil away. Now, an old woodsman/ woodswoman, Muse B wants nothing more than to be left alone. Still, Muse B is a hero to heart, and doesn’t want Muse A to die alone. Muse B journeys with Muse A to train them, and help them defeat this evil once again. ❎
“The Cat Plot”
Muse A has just brought home a new cat Muse B, but there’s something odd about this cat. It knows how to work the light switch, the remote for the tv, and even how to delete messages from the answering machine. The last straw was when Muse A caught Muse B taking a shower with a small towel on its head. Muse’s B’s response to this was an offended, “Do You Mind?!” ❎
“Vigilante Roommate Plot”
Muse A has recently become Muse B’s roommate (Your muse), they get along well but keep to themselves. Muse B notices Muse A sneak out sometimes after dark, but often come back with a black eye, or fresh wounds. It’s never discussed how or why, maybe Muse Be doesn’t want to know. However, the news keeps playing that a masked vigilante keeps the city in check by stopping criminals coincidentally at the same hours Muse A is gone. The final puzzle piece was in the room of Muse A. As Muse B does some snooping around, accidental or on purpose, they find some of the vigilante gear. Does Muse B bring it up, or not? ❎
“A Parent For Christmas Plot”
It’s Christmas time, and Muse A is a single parent who’s asked their child what they want for Christmas. Their response is, “I want a Mom/ Dad for Christmas.” Muse A hasn’t been burning up the scene lately, being caught between work, the holidays, and raising a child alone. What’s a parent to do but put an add in the paper. It was a simple add, “Parent wanted for the holidays.” While Muse A doesn’t expect anyone to answer, they actually get a bite. Muse B has answered their add for reasons of their own. Still, it is a chance for both of them to get through the holidays. As Muse A and Muse B drive to pick up the child from school, the terms and conditions are discussed. ❎
“Amnesia Plot”
Muse A has been in a coma for weeks due to an accident. Muse B, their spouse, has been sitting right next to them, hoping and praying that they’d wake up. Muse B’s prayers are answered, but at a cost. Muse A doesn’t recognize them. It only goes deeper when Muse A doesn’t know who they are, or remember their past. With deep amnesia, it’s up to Muse B to help them remember their past, and to show them that they were in love once upon a time. ❎
“More Than Words Plot”
Muse A has extreme social anxiety, and absolutely freezes up when they try to talk. They’ve resorted to writing all they need to say on a small whiteboard, thanks to Muse B’s ideas. Even though Muse A can’t say it out loud, Muse A is starting to have feelings for Muse B. ❎
“Old Flame Plot”
Muse A and Muse B were a thing once, but that didn’t last. On good terms, Muse A (Your Muse) went far and wide, but Muse B (My Muse) stayed home for the simple life. Years later, back in their home town, Muse A and Muse B see each other again. Muse B has a daughter, but is a single parent. Inspite of this, talking to Muse A again is like they never left. Can they rekindle what they once had to those wonderful days? ❎
“Healing Plot”
Muse A just came out of a bad breakup. Muse B, their friend, has been there to help Muse A back on my feet. Muse A’s depression is gone, their confidence is back, and it’s all thanks to Muse B. Is the time they spend together doing more than just healing Muse A, or are they just imagining things? ❎

Olivia x oscar x whitley Hm...
HAHA I HAVE THE NAME
M.I.L.S
Man i love sharks
I'll take this as an opportunity to talk about Olivia then!
Olivia Wreath Arc, the third sister, fourth child of Prismeya and Blane ark!
She's a wild outdoorsy Woodswoman, and nigh fearless! She loves unabashedly, and unendingly! A survivalist through and Through, She practically lives in the trees! In a lot of ways the opposite of Whitley.
She is prone to doing Rash things, and committing to bad ideas.
Also I'd say something like "Olive Branch" would be a better ship name.
Olive, from Olivia, Branch, and Olive trees and Pine trees have branches, and Olive branches are a sign of Wealth, which comes from whitley.
