The Future Of Work Is Fair: Why Workload Distribution Matters More Than Ever
Tumblr media
Optimizing work distribution is crucial for enhancing productivity, reducing stress, and achieving organizational goals. This article delves into the realm of workload distribution, uncovering innovative strategies and best practices to streamline workflows and maximize efficiency in any workplace setting.
By understanding the principles of effective workload division and implementing actionable techniques, businesses can empower their teams to work smarter, not harder, ultimately driving success and fostering a culture of collaboration and excellence. Join us as we explore the key principles and practical strategies for achieving optimal workload division and unlocking the full potential of your workforce.
What Is Work Distribution?
Work distribution refers to the allocation and assignment of tasks, responsibilities, and projects among individuals or teams within an organization. It involves distributing the workload in a balanced and equitable manner to ensure that each team member has a manageable amount of work that aligns with their skills, capacity, and availability. Effective work distribution aims to optimize productivity, minimize bottlenecks, and prevent overburdening or burnout among team members.
It often involves strategic planning, communication, and coordination to ensure that tasks are assigned appropriately and that resources are allocated efficiently to meet organizational objectives. By implementing sound work distribution practices, organizations can enhance efficiency, promote collaboration, and achieve better outcomes across projects and initiatives.
Is Workforce Management Software Beneficial To Analyze Work Efficiency?
workforce management software can be highly beneficial for analyzing work efficiency within an organization. These software solutions typically offer a range of features and functionalities designed to track and analyze various aspects of workforce performance, such as time and attendance, productivity metrics, task completion rates, and resource allocation.
By capturing and consolidating data from different sources, workforce management software provides valuable insights into how employees are utilizing their time, where productivity bottlenecks may exist, and how resources can be optimized for better efficiency.
Additionally, workforce management software often includes reporting and analytics tools that allow managers and stakeholders to generate customizable reports and dashboards, providing visibility into key performance indicators (KPIs) and trends over time. This data-driven approach enables organizations to identify areas for improvement, make informed decisions about resource allocation and staffing levels, and implement targeted interventions to enhance work efficiency.
How To Balance Unbalanced Workload?
Tumblr media
Balancing an unbalanced workload within a team or organization requires a strategic approach and effective communication to ensure that tasks are distributed fairly and efficiently. First and foremost, it's essential to assess the workload division among team members, identifying any disparities or areas of imbalance. This may involve analyzing the volume and complexity of tasks assigned to each individual, as well as considering factors such as skills, experience, and availability.
Once the workload imbalance has been identified, the next step is to reallocate tasks and responsibilities in a manner that promotes equity and maximizes productivity. This may involve redistributing tasks among team members based on their strengths and capabilities, leveraging cross-training opportunities to build skill diversity within the team, and prioritizing tasks based on urgency and importance.
Tips To Managing Workloads
Prioritize Tasks: Start by identifying tasks that are urgent and important, and focus on completing them first. Use tools like Eisenhower's Urgent/Important Principle to categorize tasks based on their priority level.
Set Realistic Goals: Be realistic about what you can accomplish within a given timeframe and set achievable goals. Break large tasks into smaller, manageable steps to avoid feeling overwhelmed.
Delegate Tasks: Delegate tasks to team members who have the necessary skills and capacity to handle them. Effective delegation not only lightens your workload but also helps develop the skills and confidence of your team members.
Communicate Expectations: Clearly communicate deadlines, expectations, and priorities to team members to ensure everyone is on the same page. Regular check-ins and status updates can help keep everyone accountable and informed. Also Watch: Leading Employee Engagement and Workforce Productivity Tool

Plus the expectations changed, but some of the labour distribution hasn't. Women (I'll keep it binary here, I am talking about traditional role distribution) now have the opportunity to realize themselves ouside of the house (or at least try to do so, depends on the job), which adds to their workload, but the men have not yet taken their share of the "transforming input into a home" work, even if the "providing input" part has been shared.
2 adults might not be enough, but 1 adult piling up stuff while the other keeps it to the "traditional gender role" sure isn't.

Cat distribution system

You groan as you stretch yourself out. Sitting too long is always such a hassle. Tired bones and you felt like your muscles have calcified. If you wouldn't have moved now someone could have mistaken you for a stone statue the way you were perched at your work desk and scrolled endlessly through files.
Doesn't matter now though. The clock finally releasing you from your workload. Tomorrow was also a day and the files wouldn't suddenly grow legs and run away. No need to do overtime today.
You rubbed your face. Trying to shake off your exhaustion and slowly blinking the dryness in your eyes away. One more stretch that let out a satisfying crack in your back and you stood up. Packing your things together and making sure that this time you also took your thermal mug with you. Waving your coworkers goodbye you made your way home. Head already in the clouds with your game. Planning your time out of doing your dailies and just admiring your favourite fictional man. A pity that they don’t build men like that in real life.
The chill evening air hitting your face made you shiver the first step you took outside. Cuddling up in your coat and wrapping your scarf up just a tad higher you began your track home.
Fuck it's cold, you think to yourself. When would spring arrive and you didn't have to be out in this freezing weather anymore? Don't get me wrong, winter is something beautiful and when the snow hits the landscape it was akin to a fairy tale setting. The sunsets even more stunning with the low light and making everything glisten. Colours spreading over the horizon in deep violet and heartwarming orange. Frozen over roads just a bit slippery which made your way to work a small adventure when you played the game “do I land on my bum today or not?”. But enough was enough.
You wanted the sun back in your days having had your fill with this gloomy grey cloudscape. Waking up when it was still dark out and going home when night greets you again was draining more of your energy than you liked to admit. What made matters worse wasn't even that it didn’t affect only you, but that the melancholic and cold atmosphere was spreading slowly over to the people around you. It was in the way minor inconveniences would grate the nerves of your colleagues or the small tick of the jaw of your boss. The forced smile in service people who normally would make it seem genuine. Point was: everyone was fed up and ready for the seasons to change. When was the last time you saw the sun actually? Was it last October? Two weeks ago? You don't remember anymore. Just- just a long time ago. Pretty sure. Maybe you were a bit dramatic but all you wanted was to feel the warmth again and getting your vitamin D in.
A rustle next to you snapped you out of your self-pitying lament. Confused you turned your head to the right. Nothing. Just a dark alley. A car passed you by on your left, shortly illuminating a sliver of said alley. A dumpster could be made out but nothing exciting. You shrugged your shoulders and took one step, but another rustle stopped you once more. A sigh left you. Would you really go investigate? You swore this is how the stupid character out of a horror movie always died. This exact way but the curiosity in your mind and veins tried their very best to lure you into that alley to go look. One peak wouldn't hurt right? A man who wanted to drag you into it would have done it by now. There wouldn't be a more perfect chance than right now. The way you stood there like a fine lady in bewilderment.
This is what you get when you forget the one time your headphones at home. If it would be any other day, you would have continued on. Having passed this particular alley countless times and in daylight it wouldn’t be as scary as it was in this instance. Hopping from one foot to the other, you were uncertain. Would you really? You also could just…leave. Never finding out and always wondering. Spending sleepless nights wondering what could have been in this very alley that made these rustling noises. Or you would forget about it as soon as tomorrow morning came. Maybe it was just the wind that blew over a leaf or bag. On the other hand this could be a cool story you could tell your friends about. Or you could get mugged.
Alright fuck it. You go. Otherwise you would stand out here in the cold for the next ten minutes pondering about if this decision will have negative consequences on your life.
Tentatively you took one step into the alley. Instantly your common sense kicked in and pressed adrenaline into your veins. My god, this is the way you would die. Mentally have written your testament and who you would leave behind what you took another step.
“Hello?”, you asked hesitantly into the night. Frustrated with yourself you grunted. Naturally a serial killer would answer you out of the alley with “yes, behind this dark corner. I made sandwiches, you want one?”.
You had half a mind just turning back around again, but as if on cue another rustle. This time followed with a bang out of the dumpster. You let out a breath of relief. Oh by the gods, it was just a stray animal…or was it? Nevertheless the strong grip of fear that held your breathing back let a bit loose and you made your way to the dumpster with sure steps.
Your heart clenched in your chest at the thought that maybe an unlucky racoon got trapped in the dumpster and would meet an unsightly end in one of the waste disposal sites. Without a second thought you opened it and peered inside. Barely enough light from the street lights flooded one side of the dumpster and you saw- nothing. It was pitch black. Quickly you patted your pockets. First coat and then your pant pockets for your phone. One hand fished for it and rather clumsy you unlocked it to get to your flashlight. Now with your weapon of light you peered inside once more and this time you saw- trash. At first. A lot of it, nothing out of the ordinary for a dumpster in a lived in neighborhood. Out of the corner of your eye you saw movement and following it was your hand with your phone.
“Naaww you poor guy. How did you end up in here?”, you cooed after you spotted a brown cat that had a completely black right arm. Its fluffy fur was completely damped and it looked very dirty. Also something you could expect of a stray cat. Slowly and cautiously you held out your hand to it as to not scare the cat away.
“Come here. Let me help you”, you said in a low voice. The cat looked at you, then at your hand, rather unimpressed. In true cat manner it seemed like it wanted to say “I don't need your help puny little human”. You giggled.
“Come on. I don't bite and as soon as you are out of the dumpster I leave you alone. What do you say?”, you tried to reason with the cat as if it could understand you. To your astonishment it acted like it did. Suspicious of your hand the cat sniffed it first. Deeming you not an immediate threat it rose up from its position and stepped closer to your hand and yourself. Slowly you dragged your hand to a spot where you could easily grab the cat and lift it out.
“Alright buddy. I’m going to grab you now so don't make me regret it by scratching me”, you spoke more to yourself than the cat. You really didn't want to go to the next doctor and get a tetanus vaccine in. The cat still unimpressed with you followed your movement though. Securely you wrapped one hand around its ribcage and the other, after putting your phone away, beneath its hind paws and scooped it up and over the dumpster back on the ground.
“There ya go”, you smiled down at the cat. “Didn’t even hurt.”
The cat looked up at you and only then do you notice its blue eyes that really dipped into a deep violet. A splatter of yellowish green accompanied the irises. For such a beautiful cat to be a stray, you almost didn't believe it.
Also, the cat didn't move. You fully expected it to dash away as soon as its paws were back on the ground but it just stood in front of you. Almost like it was waiting for something.
“Go on now. Go home”, you crouched down and offered your hand again. “Or don't you have a home? Such a beautiful cat as yourself.”
The cat once more went to your hand. Starting to purr as it rubbed its head against your hand. Demanding pats.
“Yes”, you giggled. “Such a handsome cat. And friendly too. You must have a home, right?”
The cat meowed as if it tried to answer you. Your heart broke a bit. For sure this handsome fellow had a home. As you absentmindedly patted the cat all over you looked around. You felt no collar around the cat’s neck and wondered who it could belong to. Thinking about what to do next, the cat started to rub itself around you. Bumping into you and almost pushing you out of balance.
“Alright, alright”, you began patting it in earnest again.
“So, how about I take you home with me for now and then just put up missing posters, hm? Is that a plan?”, you asked the cat. Meowing back at you, you took it as a yes to your plan. Inwardly you celebrated. The cat distribution system finally chose you! Maybe not for long but you now were in the possession of a new cuddly friend. You might not have anything at home but that could be easily fixed. This beautiful fellow also might not stick around for long but for however long you swore you would take the best care of him. Her? It? Right, you never ascertained which gender the cat had. Eh, whatever. As long as you didn't get attached to it and without much pain could give it away again, all was good. Right. Right?
Future you will hate you for this decision.
The cat stretched, walking around you once more and then pawing at your knees as if to beg to get picked up again. Opening your coat and scooping it up from the ground, you fulfilled the cat’s wishes.
“My god. You are really friendly”, you mused to yourself and scratched the cat's head to which in return it purred even louder.
Together you made your way out of the alley. The dumpster forgotten and your way home just a bit warmer.
“Don’t run away, okay?”, you said softly to the cat before untangling it from your torso. On your track home it made itself very comfortable on you while you carried it. Its head often flitting from one place to another. You blamed the new height of perspective for the cat's behaviour. Couldn’t blame it, really. Imagine yourself getting hoisted up five times your own height and then carried around places that you never seen before. Now that would be an adventure. For the most part the breathing was calm so you didn’t worry that much. More surprised at the fact how the cat didn’t struggle once to get free. Just enjoying the free ride.
Cat on the ground in front of the door of your apartment you dove one hand into your bag, trying to find your keys that you carelessly flung inside. With half an eye on the cat all the time. Not that it would decide in the last moment to make a run for it. Granted that it wouldn’t come far or could cats push open an apartment complex door? Probably not or the coincidence would just be big enough that one of your neighbors decided to go out in that exact moment as well.
You shook your head off these thoughts. Cat was still on the ground and eyeing your door expectantly. Seemingly cat wasn’t even thinking about going anywhere but inside your apartment and here you were already thinking about all the different possible scenarios that would ensue when it ran away. Silly you.
Key victoriously between your fingers you finally unlocked your home and cat dashed inside like the devil was after it. Puzzled you stood at your door for a bit.
“Alright? Well…make yourself at home, I guess”, slowly trudging you went after it into your own four walls. Serotonin tingling your brain with the happiness that cat was very excited to explore its new home.
Exhaustion slowly made itself apparent. Clawing at you and dragging your already tired body. Exhaustion and hunger but motivation wasn’t nowhere near you to make yourself food instantly. Cat on the other hand was curiously looking around. Taking in its new environment. Sniffing, patting around and jumping on shelves to get a better view.
“Don’t throw it down, I swear to god”, you warned as you spotted cat near a vase with flowers inside. Body despite the sluggish feeling ready to jump to save the vase from its crashing end. Expertly the cat avoided the glass and danced around anything that was not stable. You let out a breath of relief. Automatically your body carried to your couch in the living room on which you rather unceremoniously slumped down on. Ah, finally home.
_____
How the fuck did he get here? One moment he was in the deepspace tunnel, conducting a new mission and the next he had four paws. Trash surrounded him, it was fucking dark too. He could make out the sound of cars passing by and people walking on the street. Where was he? To his own surprise he wasn’t that cold until he realised that he had fur as well and when he tried to speak only a meow came out. In no way in hell did he turn into a cat, did he? No. What?
In his moment of utter disorientation, a lid opened and a beautiful face peered down to him. Down? Ah, right. The cat thing.
Caleb watched you fumble for your phone only to be blinded the very next moment by the harsh light of a phone flashlight. It took several blinks to get his bearing again. You reached out your hand to him. Now this was getting ridiculous. “Poor guy”? “How did he end up here”? Sweetheart, that's what he should be asking. Who the fuck are you anyway and why did you open up this-? Where was he? Is this a trash dumpster? Oh his fucking gods. If he could sigh in annoyance, he would.
Caleb eyed your hand suspiciously. The smart move would be to take it. Considering everything, he couldn’t get out of this dumpster alone and what could be worse is that, tomorrow the dumpster could be emptied. Nor did he trust humanity enough that another friendly soul would come and pick him up or at least get him out. You were his only shot right now, even if he didn’t want to admit it. So? He sniffed you. Creepy in his own mind but he was a cat now. The least he could do was to make it look convincing.
You pulled your hand closer to yourself as if to lure him out of his corner. As if he wouldn’t just go to you willingly. How long would he need to put up with this act? Irritation flared up within him. This is so beneath him.
Scratch you? Yeah, why not actually? Instead he let him get picked up gently. Now was not the time to bite the hand that was feeding him.
The moment was faster over than he could comprehend. Swoop- and he was back on the ground. Caleb looked around. Alright, an alley and- you. In your full glory. Black pants, hair tied up, thick scarf around your neck, an open hanging coat and warm looking boots. Beautiful, pretty and cozy looking. Not a threat. A quick scan and he was certain you carried no gun. Not his worst choice, he thought.
Let's make a run for it. What do cats normally do to get pity? Humans usually die to pet them. Swallowing his pride he went to you. Did he like to get touched? Sensitive question. If it would be his childhood friend, he wouldn’t mind but a complete stranger? In this form no less? God, that needed willpower and he was already running low because of this situation. Please let this all be a dream and he would wake up in a few moments in Skyhaven.
“A home?”, yeah in the arms of someone else but that was not here. Just where in heaven sake was he? Get this over with, woman and just take him with you.
Please, he meowed. Inwardly he sighed. Good lord…
Mercy was shown and you actually picked him up. Giddy and a happy smile on your face you wrapped him up in your coat. It was warm and against his own doing he began to purr at the sensation. Okay so maybe this wasn’t as bad as he imagined. Distracted a bit and sleep pulling at him, he let himself enjoy this small reprieve for a bit.
Lights flitted by behind his eyelids and he looked around. First fact? This is not Linkon nor Skyhaven. Second, he didn’t recognise anything. If this was in fact a dream, his subconsciousness was running wild today. The only thing grounding him was you. Your warmth, your soothing touch and your somewhat familiar scent that he confused with that of MC. It wasn’t as overwhelming or confusing when he could nuzzle up to you for now. Just shortly, only for a bit. To get his mind back on track, you know?
The walk you both took, well- you took with him being carried, was not long lived. You said something but he didn’t pay any attention. Something something not running away something something. Where would he go anyway? For christ sake he was a cat right now. First thing he needs to get rid off anyway. Second thing was to get back home. Like home. Once more begging to the skies above that this was a dream. A very vivid one. Caleb couldn't decide if this was a nightmare or not. Was he maybe more exhausted than he wanted to admit? Did he have an accident on his expedition and was now in a coma? Please let it be just that. Maybe also just cognitive training done by Ever. What does he know?
He heard keys jiggling, a soft clicking of a lock falling back and then a door opening. The ash-brown haired man…uh cat made a run for it. Into the apartment! He stopped in his tracks to get everything in. Analysing your furniture and layout. There was one floor length window that opened up to a small, cozy balcony. A couch in an open space that he guessed was your living room. With a TV mounted to the opposite side of the couch. A lengthy cupboard underneath. On it a few nick-nacks: a charger cable connected to a tablet, a switch console and a bunch of books. The couch itself was decorated with plushies and cushions rounded up with a throw blanket. Some of the walls accented by warm pastel colours to widen the otherwise small space. He peered down one corridor and made out two doors. Guessing one of them was a bathroom and the other your own.
Caleb inspected your walls. The one on the far end and left of the couch was more bookshelf than wall. Filled up almost to the brim but he spotted also there nick-nacks in between. He jumped on the couch arm and continued on another shelf. Slowly getting closer to your kitchen area. Once more he heard you say something. Bla bla not throwing down something. He had half a mind to fuck with you, but again not the opportunity to bite the hand that feeds him. Curious what you meant in the first place he looked back and felt the vase against his body. God it was so weird to see his fluffy legs and a tail too. Dirt clung to the fur and he wondered what he did before he regained his consciousness in that dumpster. But better not test what it would take to make you throw him out back on the street. For all he could know, you could be the one with answers. If not, he could still leave.
Rustling and then a dull thumb. Caleb once more looked back. You all but collapsed on your couch and let out a sigh. Tiredness was written all over your face. Your body practically radiated exhaustion. The ash-brown cat didn’t notice before but how could he? Way too immersed in his own problems. Nonetheless were you kind enough to pick him up. Brave enough to go into that spooky alley. Hell, he wouldn’t have. Not without a gun at least. You also were nice enough to carry him here. Not once complaining. If he dares to say, happy to have him with you. Just as warm as he was. Disregarding that he smelled like the trash he lay in.
Suddenly you moved, like you just remembered something important. As if possessed you scrambled up and reached for your tablet. Okay?
Back to discovering your place he left you to your own devices.
Noises sprung from your tablet. An interesting melody and a woman singing. Just what were you doing? Playing a game? Well, he was done looking at your kitchen that was, well what could be interesting about a kitchen? It was a kitchen. Jumping from the counter to your table and back on the ground he tapped over to you. One last jump on the couch right next to you. What he saw next made his breath hitch.
There she was. His childhood friend. On the screen…with another guy? Did you just took pictures of her with another man? Who was he? Some dude with white hair and a pose slung around his childhood friend. They looked happy together. Frozen in time for the picture. What is going on? Did you know her? How could you do this? How- what? How did you take pictures of her? Switching her poses like that? But why did it look so much like a game? Like a 3D rendering of her? What was going on?
But as soon as he needed to process what he saw, your fingers deftly moved over the screen and collected some rewards in an…event? What? Huh?
“Is it a new bug? Why can’t I select Caleb?”, you mumbled to yourself. Completely oblivious to the distress ball that he was right now. To your own confusion you couldn’t do anything with Caleb in your game besides recalling the memories you have obtained of him.
The head of just mentioned man reared. What was happening? Did you know him? What was this game? Who are you? What is happening?!
Enough, he jumped on your tablet.
“What the- ey!”, you exclaimed and he just meowed back. That's what he wanted to yell right now. What was going on?! Answer him!
“You can’t just- get off!”, you giggled. Not taking his jumbling, confusing emotions and obvious distress seriously.
Okay, different approach. He quickly needed a different approach. Before he could come up with anything you picked him up once more and placed him beside you. Damn him right now for being nothing but an eight pound raging ball of fur. Take him seriously, god damn it! Caleb began to meow again and cursed inside his thoughts. One paw on your tablet, but you giggled again.
“What is it? You also want to play?”, you smiled at him, picked him up. Again. Woman, do it one more time and he is going to forget his rational part about him and would really bite you. He needed answers and not pats. Oh- okay. You placed him on your lap. The tablet on your knees so he could have a good view of it.
“Should I explain it to you?”, you continued on and began showing him everything the game had to offer. Beginning with talking with four different men, battling wanderers in bounty hunting or abyssal chaos up to the “main story”, as you called it, until the memories you collected of said four men. Him included as the fifth. What? Without thinking he raised his paw on “falling for you” and selecting himself. Not half a fuck given that he gave himself away, that he was, in fact, not a cat. That's the whole point though, wasn't it? He was a man! Not a damn cat! He was stuck here. God knows where and you! You just playing with her life, with his! With his life like it was a game?!
These were…all his, well some of them anyway, memories he had with MC. The childhood friend he tried to protect at all costs. Given that his methods weren’t always as pure as he wanted them to be but more often than not necessary. All splayed out for your eyes to see and…rekindle them? Watch them over and over? Relive them?
“Do you like him?”, you asked in a soft voice and he turned to look at you. Totally not caring that he, a cat, was patting on your tablet with human like intelligence. Were you that tired? Half asleep already?
Like him? He was him! How could he tell you that? So that you would explain further. Maybe he could figure out this way how he got here. Wrecking his brain he tried to come up with anything. Fuck it. Fucking dip this cat shit. Even more so than he already has. How blaringly obvious did he need to be? For your rather slow mind to comprehend what he means.
Trying to figure out how to show you, tell you or rather scream at you that this 3D rendering of him was he, he put a paw on his image and then on his furry body. As well as he could at least. Which in result was him patting his image then getting up, sitting on his hind legs and putting his paw on his torso area. Caleb begged to the skies above that you understood his message but to his dismay you looked at him puzzled. Oh his fucking gods…
Alright. Different approach. This was taking all of his patience and he barely had none.
Once more he put one paw on his image that beneath showed a short video out of the perspective of what he only could guess was MC. He didn’t want to think too long about it. Focus. Again he raised his other paw and put it on his chest. This time though he meowed and looked at you imploringly. Please, please let this be enough so you put two and two together. But even he realised that this was rather far-fetched and if this same thing would happen to him, neither would he understand what a cat would try to tell him.
“What is it? Why-”, and then you looked at the screen that froze over the memory. “Hm?”
Oh my god, did you understand? Please!
You looked past his small frame and he could see the thoughts behind your eyes. Yes, yes, yes. Yeah, he was Caleb! Come on. Give him answers!
“Nah”, you giggled. Not knowing what you might have said he just nodded with his head.
“His name is Caleb, should I call you that as well?”, you thought out loud and stroked down from his head to his back.
No! Yes, his name was Caleb but no! God fucking damn it. Just how was he supposed to tell you that Caleb was well- him. He was Caleb. The same man, now a cat in this universe, that you saw on that screen. Distraught, he wrecked his brain. Unfortunate for him there was no book or briefing or training he could have done to prepare him for playing charades as a cat. “How weird would it be if I named you after a otome game video character?”, you sighed. “God, I must be very lonely to even be considering that.” Maybe, but not the point here, woman. You could question your terrible life choices another time but right now, he needed you to figure out his image riddle!
~~~*~~~*.~~~*~~~*~~~*.~~~*~~~*~~~*.~~~*~~~*~~~*.~~~*~~~*~~~*.~~~*
Henlo, to everybody that made it all the way down here! I plan on making this a multi part story, so stay tunned! If anybody has some cat involved stuff and want to see it here, don't be too shy to tell me about it <3
Thank you for reading, beautiful soul
So the thing with my job is that we're three companies in a trenchcoat. What happened is that a couple of very wealthy guys who used to work in tech decided they were going to buy up companies and mash them together into a bigger company, which is a not-uncommon way to grow MSPs.
We're going to call the first company the Fluffy Bunnies. They were a very stable, white-glove-service MSP with 10 employees serving 30 high-end clients in San Francisco. They have existed for 16 years but got bought out two years ago.
The second company are the Scrappy Mutts. They were acquired about a year ago. They were a moderately stable group handling around 90 medium and small clients in orange county and san diego, they had 7 employees.
The third company, my company, are the Strangled Bats, and were acquired seven months ago. We were a sinking ship with 5 employees handling 185 medium and small clients and one very big client in Los Angeles.
I'm going to call our current company Frankenstein Inc (FI).
All but two of the Scrappy Mutts have left FI. So when we are talking about people who are "familiar" with the 90 clients from that group, it is one tech and one office admin. We have lost a few clients from that group because when FI took over, the service level changed (turns out the previous owner was providing a lot of free services and free computers, which FI will not and should not do).
All but one of the level three techs from the Fluffy Bunnies have left FI. We have several level two techs from the Fluffy Bunnies still on the team, and they make our white-glove, tier-1 san francisco clients feel very well cared for but there's no real account management going on. We have several big clients from this group who are shaky.
Nobody from the Strangled Bats has bounced. None of our clients have bounced. Gary not only trained us to suffer, he trained our clients to actually pay for their services.
Initially, one of the owner/investors of FI was the CEO. When he brought on the Fluffy Bunnies, he told them they were going to be the leadership and guidance for the company. He told them how he wanted the finances handled and set rules for some procedures. When FI merged the Fluffy Bunnies and the Scrappy Mutts, the Fluffy Bunny management had to scramble to figure out how to distribute workload when they quadrupled the size of their customer base and had to figure out how to merge contracts from the Scrappy Mutt clients to their system. This did not go well.
Because that didn't go well, the CEO hired a Professional Services VP and later a Project Manager. The PS VP got fired about a month after the Strangled Bats came onboard, and the Project Manager had only been there for a month at that point.
About a month after his VP was fired, the project manager looked at what a tire fire the acquisition of the Scrappy Mutts and the Strangled Bats was, and started organizing an acquisition process that we are putting in place for the next acquisition, because the owner/investors very much want to keep acquiring other companies.
Since the Strangled Bats have come onboard, ticket distribution has been shot to shit and MOST clients are unhappy with how we're meeting SLAs.
Because of this, the owner/CEO hired two outside execs, one of whom is a CEO with fortune 100 experience to replace him. These two execs have now been at the company long enough to flip on a lightswitch and see the cockroaches scrambling around.
The Fluffy Bunnies are middle management. They want things to move smoothly and customers to be happy. They are more concerned with service outcomes and dropping everything to make clients happy than they are with stability. The Fluffy Bunny response to the cockroaches is to say "yes that is quite unpleasant but we must overlook that for the moment to make sure our customers feel seen." The Scrappy Mutt reaction to the cockroaches is to go "yes, those do seem to be squirmy things, but I am currently chasing this tennis ball (being run ragged by being the only one who really knows 90 clients)". The Strangled Bat response is "yeah okay I eat cockroaches I guess I can grab those and do everything else" because we have been forced to do exactly that.
I thought I was signing on to a company where I'd get to be a Fluffy Bunny or at least a Scrappy Mutt. I am tired of being a Strangled Bat. But if I can't be a Fluffy Bunny then I can at least take care of the cockroaches because the Fluffy Bunnies are pretending they aren't there and they're busy chewing through our cables.
The new exec team doesn't want us to be fluffy bunnies or scrappy mutts or strangled bats working together at Frankenstein Inc, they want us to be normal human employees of a normal human company that is one company with one set of standards and one way of doing things instead of three companies in a trenchcoat. They are in the process of putting these standards into place, and the friction I am experiencing comes from techs on the ground chafing against change, but it ALSO comes from Fluffy Bunny management.
We have one fluffy bunny who is very hesitant to make decisive action and who doesn't want to bother the CEO. The issue is that they are the main interface with the CEO and I report directly to this person. The CEO is my grandboss and if I reach out to him directly I'm overstepping. This fluffy bunny is a yes-man who gets things done by working 70-80 hours a week instead of escalating or delegating and is unlikely to initiate change when it comes to things like "we need to have a drastic reassessment of how we document the hardware we've sold." The OTHER fluffy bunny manager is supposed to be doing service assignments and wants to be a manager, but does not like being told to act more professional, or working one weekend a month, and when you ask this manager for help the response you get is frequently "I don't care" or "ask the other bunny." I don't report directly to this person, but they have oversight over my tickets and can assign me to projects.
I don't want my outlook on the new execs to be too rosy, but it's such a tremendous relief that other people can see the cockroaches and understand that they need to be addressed. I do genuinely believe that the new execs are looking to promote based on how the team responds to the changes they're implementing, and how people tackle the issues that are coming to light, but they're still business dudes in a business setting and there's every possibility that I could work like crazy until my next review and get a "Great Job" sticker and a cost of living raise (which, hey, still better than Gary, but not good enough to set myself on fire for). Given that these guys have been the only ones to put their money where their mouth is in regard to my employment situation (new CEO is why I got my raise, and because I was making so little before it's still not a huge dollar amount but it was a 15% raise which is not nothing) I'm inclined to trust them at least a little. Buuuuuuut I'm also definitely documenting all the shit that I'm doing and I'm maybe also starting a separate document of when I needed something from fluffy bunny management and ran into a brick wall, because the exec team is very firm that i need to escalate through the bunnies.
I will say, if there's anything on our side, it's inertia. Changing MSPs is a huge giant miserable headache so it takes a lot for a customer to bail on us and we do have a solid customer base. Now we just need to make sure none of their goddamned servers implode because the fucking fluffy bunnies configured RAID 5 with no spares because "my fucking server blew up and you didn't have any plan in place to keep me up and running" is absolutely a reason that companies will drop MSPs.
_____________________
The whole server drive situation was because I was trying to wrangle bunnies; it fell into my lap before my pay raise and title change and after that (and the raid 5 panic) I couldn't get bunnies to escalate it or take it seriously and had to start dragging bats into the mix. The CEO has been very clear that this shit is a cockroach and needs to get handled but I'm not supposed to go around my bunny manager to alert him to cockroaches. My bunny manager's response to the fact that the server was RAID 10 (which was checked and confirmed by a bat) was "Wow that's so funny, I wonder why the system was reporting it wrong in the first place? That's some pressure off, huh?" and that's why I was losing my shit yesterday.
In Poor Taste [P3]
[Series Link]
(Yandere × F! Reader)
[Warning: explicit language, uncomfortable interaction, pushiness]
[A/N: ok, the pace has been slow, but it's gonna pick up in the next chapter 🙏🙏🙏thank u guys for supporting my story so far. Lmk how we feel about Lukas and Yuki ❤️❤️❤️]
Tumblr media
You were never crazy about spoiled rich men. They were nothing but troubles.
Yuki Sakamoto didn't like the new guy. He would never say that, but he would think it. From across the teacher's lounge he would see the newcomer sitting with his head tilted back, his feet gliding on the floor as he played with the office chair. The carefree manner with which this American carried himself was a sore thorn he couldn't avoid seeing, given that Yuki's tall frame forced his head to peak past the cubicle walls, alligning his vision perfectly with the sight.
Yuki supposed this guy should not be his problem. After all, the foreign department had never been not loud and unkempt, save for the few dilligent teachers who kept to themselves, fading in and out silently like shadows. He managed the Science subsection, and from what he heard, this freckled eyesore would fall into Literature. Into your hand.
So, not his problem.
Still, he couldn't help but feel the irksomeness. Yuki blamed the summer heat. The window directly behind him was catching bright sunlight, and the flimsy blinds could not filter out enough heat. The suffocating AC air wasn't of much help, what with roughly 30 other teachers recycling their breaths between 4 walls. The cicada's maddening screams was adding to Yuki's mood - his blaring headphone could not mask them. His fingers danced across his sleek keyboard, desperate to punch in the last exam's score to the excel sheets. He felt his heavy eyelids drooping and his tense shoulders slouching. Yet, across from him, the newbie was scrolling on his phone, gliding on the chair's wheel as if he was a bored guest.
Yuki wondered if you even assigned this jackass anything, or if you had simply taken on the workload yourself. You had always been like that: quiet and accepting. Surrendering. You let your department get away with too much. At that thought, he couldn't help but chew on his lip a little. A poor boss, that was what you were. You didn't know how to distribute workload, leaving your guys dependent and spoiled. Yuki much preferred his team: quick, straight to the point, and no nonsense.
He felt bad for you. It couldn't be helped, though: you had the expertise that compelled his respect, but your reluctant attitude was wearing you down. Your team sure knew how to take advantage of that.
Lost in his thought and the repetitive manual task, Yuki let himself flinch a little at the bell. He glanced at his americano now so dilluted that the coffee had sunken to the bottom, leaving melted icecubes and murky cold water to float atop. The sweat building around the plastic cup left a puddle on his desk. Yuki wiped it off, his face souring. He didn't even finish his coffee before lunchtime.
Maybe he was in a bad mood because he was hungry and insufficiently caffeinated.
The door slid open. Here you were, walking in silently. You never made loud sounds. Even when you spoke, your voice was soft and quiet. Yuki could never really make out what you were saying if he hadn't paid close attention.
"Mr. Sakamoto?"
That would be him.
Your meek voice barely reached him from over there. Yuki saw you setting your books down in your cubicle. His head perched up as he smiled at you. He had a soft spot for you, despite his opinions on your management skills. In truth, he was worried, and when he couldn't voice his concern for you to the degree he felt, his worries fermented into frustration. Seeing that new slack-off playing on his phone right beside your cubicle could not have helped.
"Yes, I'm ready", he smiled and stood up, knocking on his chair gently. It slid backward a touch too far, and he awkwardly fumbled as he set it back into its place.
By chance, he had become your lunch buddies for the last 2 years. The first year, he didn't care to get to know you all that much. By the second year, Yuki's walls had gone down after your serious attitude proved to be consistent, and it was completely dismantled ever since he discovered your music taste and his was a perfect fit. He liked to talk to you: you were gentle and kind, not overly affectionate or friendly, something he didn't expect from the foreign dept. Plus, you tried to accompany him during lunch as often as possible. "Why", he did ask you one time, and you simply responded with "well, it's no fun eating alone". But you never specified who was "alone", and he didn't feel like pushing it.
As he made his way toward you, Yuki saw the new guy stood up with an expectant look. "Well, where are we going?" - he asked, his head turned toward you. Yuki's nose scrunched at that, but it quickly relaxed so as for you not to notice. Was that something you had planned?
You seemed dumbfounded, too. Your wide eyes darted between both men, lingering on Yuki to scan his reaction.
"Oh, I'm so sorry. I don't think I ever introduced Mr.Lukas to you, Mr. Sakamoto", you laughed nervously, your hand gesturing to direct Lukas' attention to him, "Mr. Lukas here is going to be a new member of my team. He will also be working on the summer program with us."
Upon closer look, Yuki found less reasons to like Lukas. This was clearly a fresh grad who only came to Tokyo for the experience. He could see the lack of care in his boyish face - he was not taking much seriously.
Yuki would not say that. But he would think it.
"Pleased to meet you", he said, shaking the outstretched hand that Lukas silently offered. He could feel the weight of the man's stare.
The feeling was mutual, then.
The awkward silence was heavy. Yuki shifted. He was about to just leave you to it on the off-chance that he was interrupting when you suddenly spoke: "I'm terribly sorry, Mr. Lukas. I was hoping to discuss some confidential work details with Mr. Sakamoto. Can we have lunch together another time?"
"Oh?" Lukas arched his brows at you, incredulity left bare on his face. Yuki felt himself internally scowling when his empty green eyes turn to his direction, as if to ask for confirmation.
How rude. How very, very rude.
"Apologies, Mr. Lukas", he came to your aids, "there were some issues with her contract regarding the summer program. I would love for you to join us for lunch any other day."
"Does tomorrow work?"
Yuki was stunned. He was used to pushiness from new employees who were clueless about Japanese social cues, but never to this extent. From the 2 years he had spent in Australia, Yuki had gathered that this conversation was an evident rejection. He wondered if this kid was dumb or purposefully grating.
Before he could open his mouth, you interrupted between nervous laughter: "Of course, Mr. Lukas. See you tomorrow!"
"Okay. Bye you guys. Good to meet you Sakayono!"
Yuki was wide-eyed. He saw Lukas' smug eyes challenging him.
"Very well then", he said, bewildered. You followed him, your eyes somewhere as big as his own.
Only until the teacher's cafeteria did Yuki peeped about Lukas.
"How's the new kid?"
Your expression dropped as you settled in to your seat, your neat lunchboxes unwrapped from the handkerchief.
"Well, he's not a kid. He's only 4 years younger than you."
Yuki's mood was getting to him, and he let it slip- "as far as attitudes go, that's a kid to me."
You didn't react. Perhaps you shared his opinion. Lukas opened his own packed meal, lightheaded now. His eyes were still readjusting to natural light after staring at a screen for too long.
"I agree, he's quite young. But I'm hoping he would be a good addition to the team. He did sign a 2-year contract."
Yuki found your feigned optimism both sad and frustrating. Sad because you were trying so hard to be professional when that eyesore wasn't, and frustrating because he was personally disrespected just moments ago.
"Are you for real?"
You painfully laughed.
"I know... I know... but what else can I do beside my best, right? Plus, he is actually smart. All the task I handed him was done like", you snapped your fingers, "that."
"Well, that's ... good. I guess that's why he was sitting like that all morning."
"Yeah, but hey, he got his job done. He is pretty new. I'm sure he will learn about the culture soon enough."
Your eyes scanned his face. It seemed he was too tired to hide his feelings.
"Sakamoto, please don't worry. I will be fine. There are better things to look forward to, right? Like your show tonight!"
Yuki bashfully looked down at his half-eaten meal, his ears going red. He had been performing underground since ever, but hearing it from other people's mouth never failed to render him an embarrassed mess. Likely it was the switch-up: he still found it hard to balance between his daytime self as a serious teacher and the "him" who played electrice guitar to drunken crowds under blinding stage lights. You knew his secret - you, someone from work, someone that happened to stumble upon the flyer his band had posted online last December wherein his face was unfortunately unmasked. Before they took it down, you had managed to take a screenshot and rushed to him. "You?" -your dreadful message read above the attached picture. Yuki still shuddered remembering that moment: his blood was cold as ice.
Sometimes, that's what happens when your music tastes match perfectly.
"It's... nothing special."
"Well, I'll be there this time, for sure."
Before Yuki could thank you for the support, he was once again startled.
"Be where?"
Too engrossed in the conversation, he was caught by complete surprise when Lukas towered over the table. In sync, you and Yuki turned, neck craning to meet eyes with the young trainee.
Lukas stared you down, disregarding completely the other end of the conversation. Once again invisible, Yuki uncomfortably readjusted his glasses.
"Oh, um...We were just talking about-
Lukas leaned closer, his frame closing in on you. Your eyes met Yuki's in a moment of panic before going back to the man who looked as if he was in an interrogation. Yuki now could notice the quality of the obnoxious new guy's clothes - nicely ironed blue button-up with seamless stitching, and a long pair of slacks with a glistening leather belt. Must be alligator skin, Yuki thought to himself, barely hiding disdain toward the wastefulness.
"I'm sorry", Lukas spoke, his voice slow and deeper than usual, "I couldn't quite hear you. You have a very soft voice."
"Oh, sorry. I was just talking about-
"It's an underground punk rock show", Yuki interrupted smilingly, "we were just talking about how nice it would be if we could attend one some day."
Lukas turned to him only partly, his body still pointed at you.
"Oh? Is one happening tonight? I'd love to catch one, too."
"I didn't know you were into rock music."
"Well, I'd love to try out new things. I'm in Japan, for starter."
"Unfortunately we both have plans tonight, so even if there were any, we wouldn't be able to make it."
"Both of you? A plan together?" - Lukas now turned to you again.
"Not together...", you patiently responded, your eyes downcasted, "I'm having dinner with a friend, and Mr. Sakamoto here has something else going on."
Now blatantly ignoring Yuki, Lukas chuckled.
"I didn't know you were into punk rock. You didn't tell me that over drinks last Friday."
Yuki knew too well it wasn't out of the ordinary for a senior colleague to fratenize with a junior early into a job, but the attitude on Lukas and the didrespectful way he framed it left a bad aftertaste in his mouth.
He now found the persistent smile on Lukas' face very, very, very shitty.
"It wasn't something worth mentioning", you shook your head.
"Well, then I definitely will catch a show soon!"
Yuki felt like a crazy person watching this chucklefuck flirt. He was close to be embarrassed on his behalf - just juvenile and completely out of bound.
"Mr. Lukas", he cut in, "if you don't mind, we would love to catch up with you any other time. As we said, we were hoping to discuss some confidential materials."
"I thought you guys were talking punk rock?"
"It was just a passing thought."
Lukas looked to you who nodded in agreement.
"Oh, my bad, my bad. I'm still new to all the- you know! Well don't mind me, then."
Yuki waited for the guy to disappear completely behind the cafeteria door for his expression to sour. He could not hide it any longer.
"Good kid", he snarkily commented. You slumped in your seat, your eyes squeezed shut tight.
"Should we just get him the hell out of this school before he actually causes you trouble?" Yuki pressed.
Your face fell at that. You looked down, your fingers tapping on the table softly. Your chest heaved.
"I'm sorry... I overstepped."
"No", you waved your hand, trying to play it off, as if your voice didn't crack, "it's okay. I'm fine. You didn't-
If it was Lukas' plan for lunch to be unbearably awkward, he got what he wanted.
"Hey, don't you worry. Wanna see something that will make you feel better?"
Make him feel better? You were the one that needed that care. Yuki opened his mouth to protest, but you were quicker to flash your phone screen toward him.
The QR code to his show.
"See? I won't backtrack this time, for sure! I felt bad to get sick right before your last show."
Yuki's chest still felt heavy, but the way you reacted just then told him to drop it.
"Don't beat yourself up about that. You couldn't help getting sick."
You sheepishly grinned.
"I know... but I was sad to miss it. Well, this time there is no way I would!"
Yuki laughed.
"Thank you... we're no good, but I'm glad you'll be there."
"I already listened to your album, you know."
"I know."
When lunch was over, Yuki still felt a nagging anxiousness. He couldn't blame the hunger now. Clearly, something else bothered him. He wanted to say it was the lack of caffeine or carbonhydrate in his meal, but he knew that it was neither. It was the creep that cornered you, and likely will so many more times in the next two years.
His suspicion was in some way validated almost immediately. Right as he returned to the teacher lounge, his eyes met Lukas' monitor which displayed a punk rock clothing website. Lukas himself was nowhere in sight and neither were you - it was most likely that you had taken him to observe some lessons.
Upon this discovery, Yuki couldn't help the part of himself that found Lukas pathetic and desperate. So he chuckled. But another part reminded him that despite the ridiculousness, it was best for him to keep an eye out for this clown from now. Even though this person may be off-putting to the point of comedy, there was something strange about him.
Yuki thought it, but he didn't want to say it yet.
~Commissions are open!~
- Bust of one character up to the chest: 60$ Background for busts is free to be added<з
- Portrait of one or more characters up to the waist: 70$ For background + 10 $ as base cost, prices over are determined by detailing. For each new character + 20 $
- Character (or several) in full growth: 80$ For background + 10 $ as base cost as well, prices over are determined by detailing. For each new character + 30 $
It could be such joy if you distributed this post - or even had desire to acquire something for yourself!<ззз
Below I have described in detail almost all the information that I could imagine as necessary, yet please do not hesitate to write for any reason in a private message or ask - it will be my absolute pleasure to tell or show you more, and I am always glad to have new delightful acquaintances!<зз
I do portraits in three formats - bust, waist-length and then full-length. They can be various in styling, therefore please pay close attention to the difference in the execution of these formats - the busts are always more detailed in the character's features, the atmosphere is more consistent in waist-length paintings, and full-length drawings are well suited to demonstrate clothing design or depicted scene.
I adore to experiment with styles and learn new tones of this craft - as each meeting is a start of something beautiful, and I desire to create art that is complex and multifaced, but to an important extend I should say that I do not feel comfortable to copy or imitate other's styles of execution and sensuality, and a lot of expressions and detailing in my work are sudden - art is an journey and yet I would love to share this journey with you;з
Cost of more complex and expressive pieces and backgrounds are increased by tips, which I express as an deeply loyal and tactful system - it is absolutely voluntary and happens only at the end of the project, so you have ability to define their cost to your feelings and abilities and nothing over that<зз
Also, if you do not have tumblr account or emailing for you is more preferable - you can also fill the commission form instead!<з
Oh!! And you have read almost everything! Thank you so much! And also there, under the cut, I describe the general process of work and how we pay. This is quite useful information for other questions that you may have if you desire to purchase my work, therefore I may advise you to take a look at it along;з
How do we work on an order?
Please feel free to contact me via Tumblr for any questions you may acquire! ~
After I discuss the content of the painting with the client and receive additional materials from them (a photo of the person I am drawing, or references that are close to what is expected of me), I start creating the first sketch.
In accordance with the request, I make a sketch of the future painting, which will contain all its important elements and an approximate color scheme (if any) that I will use. At this stage, you can freely make your amendments, and when the content suits you, I will ask you for an advance payment of half the cost of the work without additional prices of background or detailing.
After that, work on the portrait will begin. Its duration varies on several factors - to a greater extent on the volume and complexity of the work itself, as well as on my own workload with other projects.
After completing the portrait, I will send you its version in low quality- after you familiarize yourself with it (there is also possible some edits - of tones and color, elements of shading, character features and small details), and after you pay the rest of the amount, you shall receive the final result of our artwork! ~
Overworked Employees: Are You Working Yourself To Exhaustion?
Tumblr media
The office lights buzz, throwing an eerie glow over deserted desks. Your fatigued eyes skim emails for the hundredth time. Your inbox, a bottomless pit of duties, mocks your heroic attempts to chip away at the ever-growing mountain. Is that you?
Burnout, the insidious creep of tiredness, cynicism, and inefficiency, is more than a professional jargon; it is a modern-day disease affecting millions of people across the world. We wear its insignia like a distorted medal, proudly "hustling" till the early hours, spurred by coffee and ambition. However, under the façade of productivity is a hidden cost: a gradual deterioration of our well-being, relationships, and, eventually, our own spark.
Imagine your life energy as a thriving flame. Overwork becomes a persistent wind, fanning the flames till they crackle and splutter, threatening to extinguish completely. This is not a badge of honor; it is a warning notice. Chronic overwork leads to more than just exhaustion and diminished productivity by overworked employees. They permeate all elements of our lives, influencing our physical and mental health, personal relationships, and overall feeling of fulfillment.
We live in a culture that honors the martyr, the person who works long hours and sacrifices personal time for the sake of success. But at what precise cost? Are we pursuing deadlines or dreams?
Chasing recognition or leading a fulfilled life? We forget that genuine success is measured not in overtime hours or full inboxes, but in the depth of our relationships, the vitality of our well-being, and the delight we find in living a life outside of the cubicle walls.
Workload Distribution: Striking The Right Balance
Effective task allocation is essential for maintaining a good work-life balance. It entails strategically assigning work to team members, ensuring that no one bears an unfair weight.
A well-distributed task encourages cooperation, reduces burnout, and boosts total team productivity. Companies should prioritize developing transparent mechanisms that enable a fair and equal distribution of duties based on individual talents and capacities.
Solutions For Overworked Employees?
Taking on the problem of overworked personnel demands a varied strategy. First and foremost, open communication in the workplace is critical. Employees should feel free to communicate their concerns about workload without fear of repercussions.
Employers, in turn, might establish flexible work hours or consider employing more staff to help relieve the workload. Encouraging the use of time-management tools and strategies can also help employees organize and prioritize their duties more successfully.
Furthermore, investing in staff well-being programmes might help prevent burnout. These activities might include wellness classes, mental health assistance, and stress-management services. Companies that prioritize their employees' health and happiness are more likely to experience greater employee satisfaction and retention.
Is Employee Productivity Monitoring A Good Option For Business?
Tumblr media
In order to maximize efficiency, several firms use staff monitoring software. This device monitors several elements of an employee's workday, including computer use, internet activity, and time spent on tasks. While it may give insights into workflow efficiency, the issue arises: does the goal justify the means?
Is Employee Monitoring Software Worth It?
Implementing staff monitoring software can be beneficial, but it's important to find a balance between oversight and privacy. On the plus side, such systems may uncover process bottlenecks, track project timetables, and assist manage workloads more effectively. Furthermore, they can give useful information for performance appraisals and strategic decision-making.
However, the possible downsides cannot be overlooked. Excessive surveillance may create a poisonous work atmosphere, destroying trust between employees and managers. Employees, understandably, are concerned about the extent to which their every move is being monitored. To minimize unforeseen outcomes, a reasonable balance must be struck between productivity tracking and individual privacy protection.
Final Words!
To summarize, the dilemma of overworked personnel is a widespread problem that requires deliberate solutions. Prioritizing job allocation, encouraging open communication, and adopting well-being programmes are all critical elements towards building a work environment that fosters productivity and employee happiness. While employee monitoring software can provide valuable insights, it should be used with caution to strike a balance between oversight and individual privacy. Remember that the well-being of your employees is both a moral duty and a smart business choice. Businesses that invest in their workers' health and happiness may foster a great, long-term work environment that benefits everyone. It's time to stop the pattern of overworked employees and create a workplace that values collaboration, creativity, and mutual respect.
the 150% of the courseload thing for multiclassing sucks, by the way. especially since aguefort is a school where you’re set up to be in an adventuring party. you should not be punished with an insane workload to help round out your party. it should be harder, sure, but not impossible. balance that shit based on level distribution
You were adapting to these changes reluctantly but eventually. He noticed the subtle shifts—the crimson of your cheeks, the stutter in your speech—but he continued his teasing, playing that relentless game of push and pull.
You two rarely got time alone, but whenever you did, he had to act like a leech. During lunch breaks, you would escape to the terrace, seeking a moment of peace away from his admirers. This was your favorite part of the day because, at the very least, he had the decency to let you enjoy your food. But after school, he was always busy—some club activity, sports practice, or worse, Charles had him running errands like his personal errand boy.
You were busy too, and Charles Choi’s big plan was still a long way from fruition. Still, he made sure to use James until he was exhausted and burned out, extracting every ounce of effort from him. And James, ever obedient, complied every time. It was like he had made a deal with the devil, sacrificing everything—but for what?
You didn’t like it. Truth be told, you were glad you weren’t the only one buried under work, but your heart ached to see him like that. All that pity, however, went out the window the moment he tried to use his lame pickup lines or shove a lollipop into your mouth.
“Diabetes Lee, stay away from me!” you roared, and he cackled like a hyena.
It was fine, in a way. Somewhere at the back of your mind, you accepted it—because at least in those moments, he got to act his age. And it had been happening more often now, thanks to Gun Park and Goo Kim joining your team.
Gun's eyes had frightened you initially, but he was just a guy who minded his own business and stuck to his lane. The blondie, though? A different story. He had so many questions about you, but the one that bothered you the most was, "Are you two dating?"
What the hell? What a narrow-minded guy—just because a boy and a girl were close, they had to be dating? Wow.
But… wasn’t that what you wanted deep down? Wasn’t that what you daydreamed about? When James squeezed your hand in times of distress, when he shared your workload despite being overloaded himself, when his teasing never crossed a line or—
"Who knows?" James had replied, an amused, self-satisfied smirk playing on his lips.
You immediately whipped around, but he was already gone, leaving a more intrigued Goo behind. You’d deal with this rat later.
Nothing much changed after that, and you were grateful. But ironically, now that work was distributed more evenly and James finally had some free time, you started avoiding him.
You didn’t know why, but your heartbeat quickened whenever he was near. Your palms became clammy. It had been a tiny crush at first, but now you were battling a monster called ‘Hope.’
Hoping that your feelings were returned. Hoping that something might come of it. Hoping that maybe, just maybe, it would be okay.
But weren’t you also hoping back then? When you were rescued? When you thought Sophia would be a kind teacher? When you believed something good would come out of that training?
Hope was a pain. Ugh.
And James, being ever perceptive, picked up on it. One day, he forcefully dragged you out for an impromptu city exploration session.
"Don’t be like that, chief. Who knows when I’ll get free time like this again?"
You sighed, reluctantly tagging along. To your surprise, it wasn’t bad. You visited food stalls, browsed bookstores, and explored everything your budget allowed. When exhaustion finally caught up, you found yourselves in a quiet park.
It was 8 PM. Usually, at this time, you’d be torturing someone, finishing schoolwork, or handling household chores.
This was the first time you had simply hung out.
Well, not the first time—but the first time in a long while. The first time since your parents.
It felt bittersweet.
“Stop.”
You turned to face him. “Stop whatever you’re thinking,” he said firmly.
You blinked, baffled by his commanding tone. What, you think you can control my thoughts now, Mr. Genius Lee?”
He frowned. “I can when you start getting all melancholic. Don’t ruin the moment.”
Weirdly enough, that made you burst out laughing. “What moment? Are we lovers on a date?”
What did you just say? Were you stupid or something? And why was this redhead grinning like he’d just won the lottery?
You wanted to go home.
“Slip of the tongue! Just forget what I said.” You waved it off, but James Lee was not a man who let opportunities slip by. And he certainly wasn’t letting this one go.
“What slip of the tongue? I’m glad you finally realized it’s a date.”
You froze. What the hell was this dumbass saying? God, please take me home.
“Don’t joke about this,” you muttered, feeling tears prick the corners of your eyes. That damn monster, Hope, was clawing at your chest again. People always gave it to you, only to crush it cruelly.
His tone turned serious. “I’m not joking.”
You looked up at him, wide-eyed.
“Who’s really joking here?” he continued. “A few months ago, you told me not to ignore you, not to push you away. And now, out of nowhere, you start avoiding me?”
You were at a loss for words. So, he didn’t want you to ignore him. Okay. He wanted this to be a date? Checked. That meant… he liked you too?
What the hell.
It had all seemed fine in your imagination. But to actually do it, to actually acknowledge it? You weren’t sure how you felt. You weren’t sad, but you weren’t jumping for joy either.
He was a leech. A horrible tease. Nonetheless…
“I thought what Goo said made you awkward,” you admitted. “That’s why you left abruptly. I didn’t want to create unnecessary tension, so I started avoiding you—not ignoring you.”
The seriousness evaporated from his face, replaced by his usual mischief. “Oh, that’s it? I wouldn’t have minded the tension. And honestly, I should be thanking that money-hungry rat—he sped things up.”
His smirk widened as he leaned in. “So, say it.”
“Say what?”
“Say that you like me too.”
Instead of answering, you kissed him.
Damn it. Hope was a monster, but Chance was its bitter rival—and you weren’t going to miss this chance.
You pulled away first, but not fast enough to miss the slight dusting of red on his cheeks.
Never mind. It was the first kiss for both of you.
You both leaned in again, but before your lips met—
“I didn’t know you believed in such fast service,” James teased.
You wanted to shut him up.
And so, you did. Conveniently. Sweetly.
With both of you smiling between the kisses.
Note
Lea Shepherd,
It has come to the attention of the HR department that you have been using your corporate email to both offer and request sexual favors from several of your coworkers on company time, and in a seemingly official capacity. This is a clear violation of company policy regarding sexual conduct in the office, on official channels, and during work hours. Our policy clearly states that benefits not considered "earned rewards", such as target bonuses, cannot be distributed to employees evenly, including so-called "social benefits".
To comply with policy, we ask that you either cease all sexual activity described herein immediately, or agree to both offer and receive such sexual services from all employees equally. The entire HR team would strongly urge you to choose the latter option, as it will not only go a long way to undoing the sense of unfairness this conduct has instilled in many employees, but will also likely improve overall corporate moral, including for us here in HR.
If you do choose the latter option, as we most certainly hope you will, HR may be required to change the designation and official duties of your employment, as it is likely this even distribution of activity will severely limit your capacity to carry out your existing work. Management has, however, already given the green light on this, as they are all eager for your well documented talents to become more widely available.
Please respond to this email with your selection by noon this coming Monday, so HR and Management can move forward and take any necessary adjustments to ensure your continued success with us.
Thank you for your time and for that thing you did the other day in the break room,
Laika Loveless HR Manager
Laika Loveless,
After due consideration, I will conditionally accept this new position within the company that Management has seen fit to develop for me. My stipulations are outlined as follows:
Pay increase commensurate to my increase in duties. We can scarcely say that I was compensated fairly for my admittedly assumed duties up to this point, but we can use them as a spring board. Based on my new adjusted workload intake, I would expect no less than a 130% increased salary yearly.
As I will be moving to a more physically intensive position within the company, this must be non-exempt.
I will require at minimum two PA's under my direct supervision. I do not have any singular or outstanding requests as to their work history or training beyond the ability to administer good and frequent massages.
Finally. I want Jessica's office. The nice one on the 3rd floor with the bay window. If you'll circle back to me on this in person, Ms. Loveless, I can review with you some additional information I may have pertinent to this request.
I am certain we can come to an understanding on all further points related to job function, the filing of appointments, and commission. The Christmas party will be sublime, this year.
I am thrilled to be helming this new venture on behalf of the company. It is as my father always told me, "get on your knees, girl!" He was right, and I am sincerely flattered to have my accomplishments so keenly realized by my superiors.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
- Lea Shepherd
Title Pending (Might I suggest Morale Officer?)
PS: GIRL I TOLD YOU WE GONNA MAKE THIS HAPPEN JESSICA IS FCKIN THROUGH see you at drinks at Marty's honey. kisses!
[Dev Log] February 2025
Tumblr media
Hello, I hope your winter days are going well!
This is the first dev log of 2025, which means the end of my January break and the resumption of:
▹ Patreon billing and monthly activity. ▹ Monthly dev logs.
Although I took things easier in January, I still worked on the story and have quite a bit to share about my progress.
Tumblr media
What was done last month?
▹ Worked on the draft for Chapter 3 Pt. 2.
Since shifting the story format from a visual novel to IF, my draft has required some changes and updates. There are some scenes I'd like to include from the old version, but I hesitate due to the potential increase in workload [I discussed them on Patreon]. Even without those additions, Chapter 3 Pt. 2 is shaping up to be massive, and I already can tell it shouldn't be expected until late spring [assuming I decide against including those moments and scenes]. As usual, the most recent updates on my progress will be shared weekly on Patreon and monthly in the dev logs here on my blog.
▹ Refined stats and their distribution.
I began refining the stats distribution in December, but I also made some changes throughout January. Overall, the full list of changes includes: ▹ Refinement and redistribution of personal and hidden stats. ▹ Renaming the "Approval" stat to "Alignment" [this change will apply in the next update]. I'd like to thank this anon for the idea; I should have done it sooner. A few more words about the stats: Something about the personal stats feels… lacking. I can't quite pinpoint what it is, but I have a feeling I need to progress the story further to understand what's missing, so for now, I've decided to focus on Chapter 3 Pt. 2.
▹ Finished the shortcut to Chapter 3 Pt. 2.
I decided to take care of the shortcut feature in advance, and it took me some time to compile all the choices due to the variations readers can encounter in different scenes. While I may return to it later if I decide that some choices from Chapter 3 Pt. 1 should be included, I'm glad I finished adding all the essential parts.
Tumblr media
▹ Improved some scenes and fixed numerous grammatical errors, as well as a few coding issues.
Here's a list of major changes: ▹ L's phone call scene [Chapter 2]: Added a reserved flirt option and made the non-romantic option available to everyone [these changes will apply in the next update].
Tumblr media
▹ K's morning scene [Chapter 3]: The last assertive flirt option in K's scene no longer includes "I forgive you", so the reader is not forced to immediately let go of all the tension when choosing a flirt option. Small note: I have some reservations regarding the choices provided in K's scene after their apology, so I will likely post a poll on Patreon to gather feedback on this matter.
Tumblr media
▹ Solo morning scene [Chapter 3]: Due to an oversight, the solo scene didn't include a variation where the reader decides not to talk to the MC's twin sister and immediately goes to sleep. This variation of the scene has now been added.
Tumblr media
What will I be working on in February?
▹ Chapter 3 Pt. 2: translating the draft and outlining the files for coding.
In addition to that, the bonus content on Patreon that will be released this month will include:
▹ Morgan's NSFW Alphabet. ▹ K's NSFW Side Story POV [Interactive].
Tumblr media
Author's note.
I'd like to extend my gratitude to everyone who took the time to send helpful error reports, asks, and kind messages! Your support and interest help me improve my story, which truly means a lot to me.
Thank you for reading to the end! Wishing you a wonderful week and days after that! ♥
At this point I am really wondering how the entertainment industry, especially gaming industry, is going to uphold/maintain themselves.
One layoff after another. How are people from that industry supposed to find a new job there when layoffs are happening everywhere? Do studios really think there’s longevity when they aren’t even willing to hire newcomers/juniors so there‘s adequate supply in the work force? Because look at how it’s currently going: investors want more and more money, the workload increases, but people are getting fired, leaving a smaller team to do said work, even distributing them for 2 or 3 projects at the same time, only to crash in a burnout or in later years go into retirement. Then who’s left? AI? Are you kidding me? As if games aren’t becoming more and more repetitive anyway, because of some „safe recipe for good numbers“ strategy. Creativity and the people behind it are suffering.
It’s been almost 2 years since I saw a junior 3D character artist offer. Ever since then it’s been a desert. And it’s not looking all too bright in other departments either. It’s now even a thing in job descriptions where they want you to have „AI abilities“. So as a junior or regular they want you to feed their machine, so in a few years they can fire you. The audacity.
Another audacity are those layoffs just to rehire people for a smaller price (can’t tell me otherwise. For me this is a tactic to put pressure on the work force to say yes to less money otherwise they will stay jobless). People that made projects what they are today, who are seniors and leads for a reason, out of a job just like that. Make it make sense (it doesn’t).
Studios like ubisoft now openly saying that they want to focus on AI, like assets completely made by AI to „save time and money“ and expand AI onto more fields. Shame on them.
The way creative industries like gaming finance themselves is also their biggest poison. And I only see a solution in that by regulating investors demands and upper positions sheaningans. They can’t have „absolute power“ anymore. It’s destructive and greedy and not realistic. Games can not be linearly successful. For the game design „recipe“ to improve it needs iteration just like when you work in a project for example and work on a design that needs to be iterated until it‘s improved or solid even. We see time and time again that „business/numbers people“ and creatives do not go hand in hand. We see an extreme imbalance.
I would predict that with less creative new input and letting mainly AI do the work consumers will be less and less entertained because everything seems to be and look the same. It will stagnate. And then crumble. And the industry needs to start like it did before. And that’s what I guess for the big companies.
With the layoffs happening and not enough job offers in return I could see that big talents get together to build their own studios now and we may get an era of new successful and growing studios happening that may even replace the current triple A studios one day in the future. They may even change the financing game. We saw successful games happening through platforms like kickstarter more often. So it might lead back to a „power to the people“ thing. Having an idea for a project and seeing if enough people agree and invest to see it happening. There’s room for improvement in that system. That’s all what it leads back to; in the end the consumers need to be satisfied to make it a creative and monetary success. BG3 and larian studios was a good example for that. It’s what made coral island grow and grow too. So there‘s potential.
Feel free to comment your theories. I really would like to see what others think about the current state of gaming studios and how it will or could develop.
