Read my Flash Fiction Friday here!
A snippet from this week. Featuring Em'het sass.
"What's so funny?" Kyadin asked, returning to the head of the table with his oatmeal. "You wouldn't get it," Em'het shrugged. "It was an intellectual exchange." Kyadin rolled his eyes, his mood the only one still sour. "Well, whatever, can't have been that funny if you were the one telling the joke." Em'het was going to stick his tongue out, but caught the look from his mother and decided maybe one funny act of disobedience was enough for now.
Sorry, my log for this week is so late, it's been a busy start to the week! But back in action for at least a...few hours lol.

I finished the third version of the first draft of The Specters.
I may do some work on editing the Worldbuilding file, so it's up to date with the current version of the story.
And, honestly speaking, the final six chapters now exist in the form of notest, the length of barely 100-400. I may or may not add some thoughts to those notes, so they are a little longer. I still have three days of leave, so they will be dedicated to post-draft cleaning, I guess.
I'm glad to say I found the way (during writing the previous version -- now it solidified) to finish the story without sacrificing (killing) any of the main characters. Instead, it ends in a way that opens the door for a sequel, although I do not think I will write it. At least I'm not making such plans at the moment.
I feel fulfilled. :)

Breaking News: Local Author Back Again With Another Progress Report!! đ°

Next Update (Chapter 5):
A Friendly Chat đ: 100%
A Typical Workplace Meeting: 100%
Wait, Why Did We Invite You?: 40%
Eavesdropping Made Easy: 2%
The World's Worst Date!: 5%

Got another solid chunk of the 3rd section complete! I, unfortunately, haven't been able to write as much as I wanted this last week due to being busy with other things. But, hey, another 20% ain't bad!
I also got inspired to write a tiny part of the "Eavesdropping" section. It isn't much but I'm still pretty happy with it! đ
#redo; rewind if#interactive fiction#if game#progress report#also sorry for the lack of snippet this week!!!#there was one section i really wanted to post but i realized it would be too spoilery :<#and like. sure. i could redact stuff but i'd need to cover up so much it would just be kinda... uninteresting#tho tbh i was tempted just to post it anyway with like. heavy redactions. to the point where it might as well be blackout poetry#honestly at that point it'd be less of a sneak peek into the current chapter and more of just a joke#which now that i'm writing it out is kinda tempting but no... i will resist... for now

Thought I'd share a small sneak peek of ch10 from my fic Glow Worms or rather: In the Depths of the Safflower Hills
During the ongoing editing process this is a moment I keep coming back to wondering if I should cut and save for a later time, or keep. Lately I've been leaning towards keeping it, but who knows what the future holds!
In the meantime, please enjoy! ___ă(ă»âă») -------------------------------------
Serizawa placed a hand to his temple. Then pointed past a canopy of trees where the edge of a roof could barely be seen. There was a decorative statue on it, something that had wings.Â
âAnd that must be the old main⊠manor?â
âAs a manner of speaking, yes. Heh heh,â went Reigen. A pause. Silence. Reigenâs little self satisfied smile dropped some.
This wasn't causing the reaction Reigen had hoped for. He observed Serizawa a little closer. âYou donât look so good, Serizawa,â said Reigen in gentler tones.
It didnât help how hot and bothered Serizawa was already feeling. With the back of his hand he dabbed at the beads of sweat showing up on his forehead. It was as if summer came early, but only for Serizawa.
A door opened from one of the sheds. Together they watched as two people with plastic bags exited it, busy with their talking and tasks. One was putting on heavy duty gloves.Â
With so many workers Serizawa was surprised no one came to greet them. Were they just, used to people ambling up the road unannounced?
âI canât tell if this presence is âthe entityâ or just⊠the vibe of a very old place that had a lot of⊠unhappy things happen on the property.â
âIt could be intertwined,â said Reigen glancing between Serizawa and the two workers enter into the fields.Â
âIt could be,â nodded Serizawa, ïżœïżœïżœit very much could be. Iâm not looking forward to it,â he dabbed under his chin with the back of his hand. Then shrugged off his muddy jacket.Â
A cool spring chill immediately brushed against Serizawaâs warm body. It was instant relief, but it started to make the cooling sweat stick too. Which also wasnât great, but he couldnât stand the feeling of his jacket on him any longer.Â
Looking at Reigenâs expression, Serizawa gave a comforting look. âOld places attract presences, especially places with history, or unhappy places or,â
âCemeteries?â Reigen offered.
âYes,â said Serizawa.Â
âPerhaps thereâs an unmarked gravesite around here,â Reigen frowned. Already scanning for potential locations for an unmarked grave. Would an old estate like this have a small potterâs field of sorts? He ignored the needly cynic in him who pointed out: of course there is.Â
Serizawa hummed, âvery possible.âÂ
Serizawa lifted a psychic infused hand and moved it about the air, as if moving magnetic powder around. Shifting through the centuries to try to find the specific residue he had come to associate with the Entity.Â
Disease, unwanted pregnancies, indentured servitude, the struggle of living within a strict cast system, the little joys and happiness found against great odds, love lost, love found, treachery, betrayal, an unspeakable sacrifice.Â
Yet nothing specific. Or rather, recent for their cause.Â
Not quite tinged in enough teal.Â
Or so it seemed.Â
Was that a tale-end of a noise? Just beneath the rumble of a tractor? It came and went like a wave, just out of hearing. And just when Serizawa could place it, it was gone.Â
Sometimes old places like this were a little easier to read. The psychic equivalent to geologists reading the foliation on a canyon. The pressure of time centuries, or the weight of grief squeezing the flat or elongate minerals (or in this metaphor; emotions, locations, old old objects and so on), within a place so they become aligned.Â
This isnât always the case of course.Â
Something as vast and profound as emotions can hardly be contained within such parameters. But it helped Serizawa contextualize it all. Perhaps other psychics had other approaches, everyone was wonderfully different.Â
Serizawa lowered his hand, and lifted a thin barrier. The psychic equivalent of wearing beekeeperâs gear.Â
It, the floating residue of emotions, were all mainly harmless.Â
The barrier wouldnât ward such presence away either, it was light enough for them (in this new honey filled metaphor) to even perch and walk along the psychic bee suit curiously, but still, nice not to risk getting stung.Â
It was something he found himself doing around locations filled with a menagerie of strong lingering emotions. There was great potential for a haunting here, if not nowâŠthen in the future. Dormant and waiting for just the right catalyst. Patiently in pause, until the liminal opening presented itself.Â
And so on.
Reigen leaned into Serizawaâs field of vision. Giving his arm a gentle nudge with his elbow. âYou good?â
âYes. Thank You.â Serizawa resisted the urge to cup Reigenâs lovely round face in his hands. His hands fidgeted some.Â
âPick up on anything in particular?â Reigen moved the bicycles so they wouldnât be in the path of others passing.Â
Serizawa shook his head, âusual old place stuff.â
âOld as balls, huh?â
Serizawa rolled his eyes, Reigen beamed.Â
Then after a while Reigen asked: ââŠWhat do they look like?â
âHm?â Serizawa blinked at him, he had expected another jovial joke.Â
âThe, uh, old place stuff,â here Reigen wiggled his fingers indicating all the spiritual hodgepodge he imagined floating about. Or, sticking? Â
Serizawa smiled. Once again happy Reigen had come clean and was able to stop squirming long enough to admit to not having powers. It meant a lot less jokes about things being strong enough or weak enough to be seen. And, it meant Serizawa could share more about this side of himself with less song and dance.
âEvery location is differentâŠâ Serizawa paused, and wondered how he could put it in a way Reigen would understand. âLikeâŠlike how some vegetables need the right season. OrâŠuh, soilâŠlevels?â
Reigen nodded, âph levels, and an acidic scale in the soil. Plus, weather Iâm sure? Except the weather could beâŠuh, anything?â
âYes!â
Reigen looked skyward. âItâd make sense that the afterlife is just as varied and different than the, uh, âŠlife life,â he finished sheepishly.
Serizawa noted no one had yet come out to greet them, then again, they hadnât rung any bell or anything. He considered the fields, and considered all the different type of fields he had witnessed in a single morning alone. He considered Reigen, full to the brim with green thumb facts.
A breeze rustled over the pair of them.Â
Serizawa folded his muddy jacket and draped it over his bicycle.Â
ââŠGive me your hand,â said Serizawa, almost inaudible.Â
âWhat?â Reigen looked at him. At the outstretched hand, with little calluses, the vast squishy palm, the little hairs that peppered the back of it and knuckles. ââŠokay.â Reigen gulped and tried to keep his head on his shoulders.
Serizawa held the hand, and concentrated.Â
Reigen shivered as something overcame him. Not just emotion. Like a film was slowly being stretched over him. He felt like a blushing leftover dish being preserved for another dayâs meal.
ââŠa barrier?â Reigen guessed. It wasnât the first time he experienced such a feeling, though this was slightly different. It made his eyes water a little like bad hay-fever. Or what he had always imagined hay-fever to be like.Â
In short, this was new.Â
Serizawa nodded proudly. âCorrect!â Then he squeezed Reigenâs hand ever so slightly.
It caused another shiver, he had to bite back a gasp as his lashes fluttered as if someone used a harsh flash, and everything was blotchy with after images.Â
When Reigen could focus again he sawâŠsawâŠ
âOh⊠I see,â whispered Reigen.
It was as if a cell animation was placed over what Reigen had always considered ârealityâ. Motes of light made of amorphous spirits. Strange beings that looked like Cambrian era entities mixed with impressionistic art styles. It was breathtaking, and melancholic all in one.Â
âDo youâŠsee this all the time, Serizawa?â
âNot always. Sometimes I donât want to.â
âWhat do you do then?â
Serizawa shrugged, âdo the psychic equivalent of putting on sunglasses I suppose. Sometimes itâs for the best that I donât seeâŠtheyâre not used to being seen, so if the wrong kind of spirit sees you seeing them wellâŠitâs not always a fun time. You see?â
âI see,â nodded Reigen. âUnwanted attention.â
âYeah. âŠannoying even.â
âSounds potentially, um, tedious.âÂ
âIt is, but, I learnedâŠâ
âLike everyoneâŠâ
âYeah,â said Serizawa resisting the urge to make little designs with his thumb over Reigenâs hand. âYeahâŠâ
Reigen frowned as he nodded. ââŠDo the kids have to deal with this too?â
âMost likely.â
Reigenâs frown deepened a little more as he considered this. âSoundsâŠhard.âÂ
âIt can be intuitive,â encouraged Serizawa.
âI suppose,â said Reigen not entirely convinced.Â
ââCanâ is the operative word here,â amended Serizawa.
Reigen turned his head to look around more with these âfresh psychic eyesâ.Â
He observed as something pale lanky and massive poked about the fields. How people seemed to walk straight through the being, unperturbed. Floating one eyed scarecrow likeâŠthings. Some sort of prehistoric looking fish made out of the lines of a canyon wall, swimming through the air. Motes of, dirt, or feather balls. A many tooth horned creature that popped in and out of the grass like an earthy crocodile emerging from a river.Â
It was like a childhood fantasy come to life.Â
Meanwhile what could be seen of the Takeda manor in the background, had a hard to see-through miasma around it. A constant fog. Or the swirl of a coming thunderstorm.Â
It was all so terrifying, and beautiful. Reigen wanted to squeeze Serizawaâs hand. Instead he said: âWonâtâŠI bring attention to myself, being able to see this?â
âIt isnât permanent.â
âOhâŠâ then Reigen added, âright, Mob did something similar once.âÂ
Serizawa nodded remembering the memory that Mob had shared with him.
âIt was⊠exhilarating, and,â here, Reigen couldnât help but allow a smile escape him, âin retrospect maybe even a little cool. But I was so concerned about the situation at the time, and⊠angry. I didnât get to really look around. I wonder if I would have seen something like âŠall this.â
âYou might have. Keep in mind this location is⊠really active to say the least.âÂ
âIncredible,â breathed Reigen taking in the supernatural scenery.
âYouâre welcome to see it anytime though, justâŠask.âÂ
The connection brought by the touch of their grasping hands felt very, very warm indeed.Â
âThank you,â said Reigen just above a whisper. âI might take you up on itâŠin the future. AndâŠthank you, for showing this to me now. ItâsâŠâ a smile grew on Reigenâs face.
Serizawa wanted to preserve it gently like a flower in a book.
ââŠitâs wonderful, Serizawa. Thank you, again.âÂ
âMy pleasure,â said Serizawa with an aching weight. âYou share things with me all the time andâŠand today alone youâve shared so much. I just⊠Iâm happy.â
They looked at each other.Â
The look lingered.
The sound of rustling trees and bending grasses.Â
âIâm going to let go nowâŠitâll break the connection. So you wonât be able to, well, See. It might be jarring. Is, ah, what Iâm saying.â
âOkay.âÂ
âIâll keep the barrier up. Just in case.â
âThank you.â
Serizawa made no move to let go of Reigenâs hand.
Reigen waited politely, albeit curiously.Â
Serizawa swallowed. âIâm, uh, concentratingâŠâ he lied.
âOh!â Went Reigen accepting this instantly. âMakes sense.â
Serizawa restrained the impulse to shake his head, or Reigen for that matter as he thought: How could someone so perceptive be so dense?Â
With an internal sigh, Serizawa slowly let go of Reigenâs hand.Â
For the best, thought Serizawa.
The hands hovered in the air for a while, lingering, before gently returning to their sides. The connection broken.
After a while, for something to say before he crawled out of his own skin, Serizawa asked: âWhat crop is in the fields?â
âSafflowers,â said Reigen not bothering to look. He was still observing Serizawa.Â

Kay's Progress Report- Day 0
Alright, let's reach for the stars! I'm participating in @the-wip-project 's event, so hopefully, I can stay on top of writing at least weekly, if not daily.
Going to give myself a weekly goal of 2,000 words (averages to 285-286 a day). Purposefully making it low because with work and my migraines, I don't always get to write every day, even when I want to.
Including my other writing sideblog ( @bilightningwhumper ) within this goal because I'm hoping to get some May event prompts done. I'll just be posting them in chunks at the end of the month rather than each day.

Hi! It's almost time for the progress report again! I was going to ask next week, but my parents are visiting so I will clean the entire house and forget about stuff due to stress soooo.
You posted a new chapter of Baby's first SVSSS fic (which was really great btw) and the febuwump (which just occasionally haunts me). How are you doing with the big bang? We're finally in the time frame where stuff is getting posted and most people have posted a teaser before that. Are you going to post a teaser too? I am so curious about what your fic will be, so I figured I'd ask!
No pressure obviously, I'm pretty sure the word count of your big bang entry is the size of an entire novel (or two)
end of the month means progress report tiiime. was about to respond to this post all "woe is me I've not written much this month" but then I actually checked my spreadsheet and it turns out I've written 25k so far and there's still a week left so ÂŻ_(ă)_/ÂŻ
Baby's First SVSSS Fic (I've got 2.2k of chapter 5 written already, yay!)
blood and seafoam (I'm going to finish this fic in february, goddammit! I swear I am. chapter three is currently 9k + like 1-2k in my notebook that I need to type up. it may well end up being split into two chapters to post; the three chapters was a guesstimate on my part)
big bang fic (I'm still putting in a good amount of work editing it; total word count is still hovering in the 120k range, but there's 21 chapters total and I usually add to my word count while editing lmao. I have an official posting date, though! march 9, mark your calendars, everyone. I'm going to post the first 5-6 chapters then; I may post a teaser beforehand, but we'll have to see)
omegaverse jinlan city fic (added a bit to this, so now chapter 3 is 3.7k)
shrine maiden au (about halfway through my big bang fic I wrote something that made me go 'hey that base idea could be used in another fic' and thus the shrine maiden au was born. I wanted it to be short and fun and almost immediately porn but you know me. it's currently 5.5k and binggeyuan have only just kissed)
I signed up for Fandom Trumps Hate (with two offers) and the MXTX Remix 2025, so that's three guaranteed fics at some point! obviously I don't know any details for them yet (and even once I do I won't be able to share much until the fics are posted), but that will be happening this year :D

Reach for the Stars Week 2 Recap
For the Reach for the Stars event hosted by @the-wip-project
Daily Goal: 200 words | Weekly Goal: 1400 words
Monday, May 12 - 235 words
Tuesday, May 13 - 223 words
Wednesday, May 14 - 313 words
Thursday, May 15 - 447 words
Friday, May 16 - 904 words
Saturday, May 17 - 275 words
Sunday, May 18 - 542 words
Weekly Total: 2,939 words
Also, you can read my Flash Fiction Friday piece here!
A personal favorite scene from this week:
âWe need to find out what he knows,â Jax insisted. âThese people arenât supposed to be here. They have Teâs banners, so heâs been here, and he isnât supposed to have been. We need to figure out what heâs using these people and this planet for.â âThese people arenât going to understand our questions even if we could communicate with them,â Ana cut in, finishing her strawberries had clearly soured her mood. âThe longer we stay here, the more danger we put ourselves in. What happens when Te or his guardians come stomping through this town and we have to fight them? How many innocent bystanders are going to get caught in the crossfire? How will you feel when this poor kid gets hit by an errant energy blast that does way more damage than just a light sprain?â âAna, I am not having this conversation again,â Jax set his jaw. Â Ana glared back at him, setting her own jaw just as firmly. âIt was a perspective you may not have considered in your haste to make some big discovery. Listening to the perspective of others is something all good leaders do,â she leaned forward into the table, challenging him. âWouldnât you agree?â âAna, if you want off this planet so badly, I will gladly send you home right now.â Jax accepted her challenge, also leaning into the table towards her. âIs that what you want? To get sent home for a lecture on not obeying your commanding officer? I am more than happy to provide that for you.â
This is what happens when you put childhood friends who grew up as equals on a team and say "follow that guy you've been teasing and having sleepovers with every weekend for a good portion of your life, but then he disappeared for ten years and now he's back while you were loyal and stayed home and did everything you were supposed to do but because he's older he gets to make the decisions instead of you"

I'm done with Black Wings (for now). It's not a full first draft yet. 22 out of 68 chapters are in actual first draft stage, the rest are in detailed pre-draft version. Well. Truth be told about five, maybe eight chapters are not even pre-draft, but... well. They were more difficult than the rest, apparently.
Other stats? 218 pages. 86 173 words.
I iz proud of self. :D

I'm not sure if it is this particular story, 4thewords, or the knowledge that my official writing goal is 1,000 words per day instead of 1,664 from nano, but but I have managed to soar past my goal each day so far, where before I struggled immensely!
Managed 2,155 yesterday for Day Two [day three for me, since I started on Halloween because I knew I was gonna be busy away from home for three days] even with being in a car for hours!

Hello and welcome back! Got a ~mysterious~ report this time around featuring the rare and elusive ???%.

Next Update (Chapter 5):
A Friendly Chat đ: 100%
A Typical Workplace Meeting: 100%
Hold On, Who Invited You?!: ???%
Eavesdropping Made Easy: 0%
The World's Worst Date!: 5%

So, I've got some good news and some bad news here. Starting with the good: I've managed to get a solid fourth of the current section done! Which would be great except...
After reading over what I wrote, I realized the pacing felt off and, honestly, I'm just not happy with it. And I've decided that I may need to change the events of the "Who Invited You" section somewhat and possibly some of "Workplace Meeting".
Which is. Not ideal. But I think I can reuse a good chunk of what I already have. Regardless, I should have it all figured out by the end of next week so hopefully I'll have a better progress report for you all then. đ
#redo; rewind if#interactive fiction#if game#progress report#sorry for the mystery ???% but depending on how much I end up changing it could be anything from 0 to 25#so. yeah.#ah well. that's just how it goes with writing sometimes#especially for longer stories#it's not unusual that a good chunk of things get changed before the final version#on the plus side. it is only really the one section and maybe a bit of another so it's not too bad tbh

Tagged by @imsodishy to post seven sentences from a WIP.
Johnny can hear the smile in her voice. The dare. Johnny stops where he is (not abruptly; Johnny Lawrence doesn't freeze). He flicks his eyes up to give Kayo an amused but stern half-glare - the correct reaction, and the reaction Johnny gave both of the other two times a chick had hinted she wanted him to wear something of hers (except perfume, he'll let a girl put her perfume on him if it doesn't smell like shit or make him sneeze, that's totally different). But Johnny feels kind of weird about it this time. There's a slight, there-and-gone lurch in his stomach, like missing a step going down stairs. The sensation of an open space where there's supposed to be something solid in the way.
