So they were moving in together.

Okay, actually, no that was partially inaccurate. Zedaph and Tango had already been living together in a low rent apartment at the edge of the city. They'd been together for maybe two years now.

Wait, maybe ‘together’ was the wrong word…

They moved in together but that was it. Simply friends. Friends with a oddly close bond who occasionally—

Tango pulls himself straight out of that thought, pushing it to the side for later. All he needs to really worry about right now is fixing code and probably packing things in boxes, not how pretty he thinks Zedaph is.

Yet he flicks his tail almost anxiously at that thought, even as he tries to bury it.

He manages, just barely manages, to push it aside as we works on line after line of code. He doesn't even notice when day turns to evening until Zed is sitting down next to him with a curious expression and paper bag.

“I got tikka masala.” Zed says as they take a plastic container out of the bag, swiftly handing over to the netherborn.

“Oh, nice.” He hums. “Did you–”

There's another thing, this time a styrofoam box, placed on what little free space there is beside the coffee table.

All he really does is purr in response, placing the rice onto his plate after the faun hands one to him.

After a moment, Zed pulls lightly on the sleeve of Tango's hoodie. He doesn't even have to ask to know that his friend is asking for her wool to be combed.

He sighs, but laughs, before taking the comb out of his pocket.

It's steady work in-between mouthfuls of food, the little sheep humming happily as he untangles knots.

But all it really does is lead his thoughts back to one thing and—

Zed's looking at him, almost looking a bit confused.

“Tango, is something wrong?”

He blinked, flicking his tail from one side to the other. “No?”

“Your ears are falling.” She pointed out.

The netherborn moves the comb through the faun’s wool slowly, removing a leaf that has gotten stuck.

“I'm fine.” He says quietly. “I'm fine.”

Zedaph just pouts at that, looking sad at the non-response until Tango just sighs.

“Okay, fine.” He groans. “I've been thinking about the whole moving in together thing…”

She nods her head.

“I mean, we're moving in together. Who even does that?” Tango exclaimed, his tail flicking slightly.

Zedaph stares, before shrugging. “Married people? Maybe?”

“I guess?” The netherborn laughs lightly.

She hums slightly.

“Aren't Impulse and Skizz married?”

He pauses, blinking slowly. “No?”

“But they live together, don't they?”

“Yeah, but that's different.” He says quickly. “They're childhood best friends and Impulse is getting married to Bdubs–”

“Impulse isn't moving in with him.”

It's blunt, harsh as all Tango's thoughts come to a sudden halt.

“But– I thought…” He says quietly.

“Ce’s staying – for now – with cir platonic partner.” Then Zedaph laughs. “I don't think either is moving in with eachother.”

Tango slumps over, curling his tail around himself before laying it in his lap. “I… feel embarrassed that you always have to explain things to me.”

“I don't always mind it.” She laughs.

He moves from combing her wool to playing with his tail, undoing a handful of knots as he finds them.

“Uh… Zed.”

“Yeah?”

“You… what are we?”

She shrugs, not seeming to really know the answer.

“I wouldn't really mind doing something a little atypical.” He says slowly.

“Are you asking me out?”

“Maybe?!” Tango yelps.

And all either can really do with that is laugh.

“You've seen me naked!” Zedaph jokes.

“Yeah, and?” Tango laughs.

Twig's GL Recs for March-July 2024

Fake Buddies Korean, YouTube, 7 episodes (one ep BL, one ep GL, one ep crossover, and then 2 more BL prequel eps and two more GL prequel episodes), approx 45 minutes when compiled, Apr 27-Jun 28 2024

At first this was a little three-part series in which it turns out both members of the couple are secretly in a homosexual relationship with their best friends and using the other as a beard. Lots of comedy of errors and puns (“I like lilies better than roses”) as the characters try to make each other understand the situation they’re in. The backstory prequels were really cute friends to lovers, and it was really nice to see these couples land in solidarity! This series is short and cute and pure fluff.  

To the X Who Hated Me: YunO x Jane Korean, YouTube, 3 episodes ~6 mins each, aired May 22-29 [microseries complete, X who hated me series may be ongoing]

When the previous 2-ep miniseries under this umbrella landed (which I wrote about here: ), I had no idea it was going to be a series of microseries! These are all short but good second chance romances. This one has a “reality”-show-within-a-show format, with a frustrating misunderstanding, and a good kiss. Be sure to always watch past the credits for this series! 

You Are My Star, Thai, YouTube, 1ep 37 mins (aired as 3 12-min eps and then they compiled into this one short film), May 18 [complete]

This was a cute Thai GL that I enjoyed mostly because of the very clear cribbing of specific scenes from recent BLs. It was mostly trope-y (both cuteness and drama), with good kissing. See if you can spot the BL references.

Xiao Xiang Yi Jiu, Chinese, YouTube, 7 episodes 2 mins each, May 20-June 3 [complete]

This little microseries is about a girl becoming an intern for her crush/idol. Happy ending, and they do become explicitly girlfriends! No kiss because censorship.

Lonely Girls Korean, YouTube, 4 episodes 8 minutes each (32 mins compiled) May 14 [complete]

This is about a couple that struggles with the closet, lack of communication, and how to make their relationship last in the face of uncertainty. Also there’s good kisses. SukFilm have done other series before and since, but this is my fave GL of theirs so far. 

The Two of Us Deep Night spinoff, Thai, YouTube, 6 episodes, 15 mins each, airing May 30-July 4 [complete]

I was so confused at first, because I didn’t realize this was supposed to be their story during the events of Deep Night that we didn’t get to see. I was excited about this one but bummed that we started the miniseries with a health scare and then a threat by Meiji to marry some guy just to make Freya jealous? I found it a little frustrating that two women in their 40s could not be honest with each other. The couple is so cute, but the storytelling is not, so take this rec with a grain of salt. Still, it’s so nice to see women in their 40s being super cute and in love in between the drama so I’m keeping it on this list! I am very glad to have gotten the dance sequence and the bath sequence.

Ayaka is in Love with Hiroko Japanese, 8 episodes, 25 mins, airing July 4- August 22 [ongoing]

This is a laugh-out-loud funny office comedy in which Akaya flirts desperately with her senior colleague at work, Hiorko, who then spends her evenings complaining to her friends at the lesbian bar about oblivious straights who don’t understand the meaning of what they say. I've written a little more about this show here. It is my favourite GL of the year so far and if it stays this good is on its way to being one of my favourites of all time!

The Secret of Us Thai, 8 episodes, 50 mins each, airing June 24-August 15 [ongoing]

This series starts with the cutest episode of all time and then devolves quickly into serious drama lol but it did a good job avoiding pure “noble idiocy” so I’m hopeful it will continue to hold up. As of ep3 things are happening that I did not expect, so I’m really curious how this one will go. In the meantime, it is also worth noting that these actresses are excellent kissers.

IRS to go after executives who use business jets for personal travel in new round of audits

WASHINGTON (AP) — First, there were trackers on Taylor Swift and other celebrities’ private jet usage. Now, there will be more scrutiny on executives’ personal use of business aircraft who write it off as a tax expense.

IRS leadership said Wednesday that the agency will start conducting dozens of audits on businesses’ private jets and how they are used personally by executives and written off as a tax deduction — as part of the agency’s ongoing mission of going after high-wealth tax cheats who game the tax system at the expense of American taxpayers.

The audits will focus on aircraft used by large corporations and high-income taxpayers and whether the tax purpose of the jet use is being properly allocated, the IRS says.

“At this time of year, when millions of hardworking taxpayers are working on their taxes, we want them to feel confident that everyone is playing by the same rules,” IRS Commissioner Daniel Werfel said on a call with reporters to preview the announcement. Tax season began Jan. 29.

“These aircraft audits will help ensure high-income groups aren’t flying under the radar with their tax responsibilities,” he said.

There are more than 10,000 corporate jets in the US., according to the IRS, valued at tens of millions of dollars and many can be fully deducted.

The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, passed during the Trump administration, allowed for 100% bonus depreciation and expensing of private jets — which allowed taxpayers to write off the cost of aircraft purchased and put into service between September 2017 and January 2023.

Werfel said the federal tax collector will use resources from Democrats’ Inflation Reduction Act to more closely examine private jet usage — which has not been closely scrutinized during the past decade as funding fell sharply in the last decade.

“Our audit rates have been anemic,” he said on the call. An April 2023 IRS report on tax audit data states that “continued resource constraints have limited the agency’s ability to address high-end noncompliance” stating that in tax year 2018, audit rates for people making more than $10 million were 9.2%, down from 13.6% in 2012. And in the same time period, overall corporate audit rates fell from 1.3% to .6%.

Mike Kaercher, senior attorney advisor at the Tax Law Center at NYU said in a statement that the IRS should also revisit how it values personal use of corporate aircraft, beyond just how flights are reported.

“The current rules allow these flights to be significantly undervalued, enabling wealthy filers to pay much less in taxes than fair market value would dictate, and it’s within the IRS’ authority to revise these rules,” Kaercher said.

Werfel said audits related to aircraft usage could increase in the future depending on the results of the initial audits and as the IRS continues hiring more examiners.

“To be clear, that doesn’t mean everyone in a high-income category partnership or corporation is evading or avoiding their tax responsibility,” Werfel said. “But it does mean that there’s more work to do for the IRS to make sure people are paying what they owe.”"

* T2 - KINK: Cock-blocking 'bots -  Posted  Competing for His Affections  this morning –  ‘bot shenanigans based on Tony & Bucky’s new romance.  I combined a recent Flash Fiction Friday prompt,  [#FFF233 Imperfect Sign]  and a belated  Fictober Day 27: prompt   "I don't know if they will accept this."   along with my  BBB - Humor prompt.  It came in at 537 words 

* A2 - KINK: Concubine -  This will get filled with Chapter Two of  The Sultan’s Gifts  (see Caning prompt below).    Chapter Two, which also fills my SAUB Gentle Dom square  is coming in at 1065 words with a third smutty chapter (filling my SRB Multiple Submissives squares)  sitting at 225 words as of this morning. 

* R5 - Doppelganger/Evil Twins -    Worked on expanding NamNori  this week -  originally a ficlet for the Flash Fiction Friday prompt [#FFF214 Broken Mirror].  It’s crossing over with my  SAUB AU: Crack square and is coming in at 1303 words of an alternate-dimension Tony  causing a bit of havoc, but also a happy Stony ending.  It will post on Friday.      

* K5 - AU: Anime - I had Vague Ideas of doing a “Battle of the Planets” (my first anime and a childhood favorite)  fusion, with Tony as Princess, Steve as Mark and Bucky as Jason - but wasn’t sure who to put in as  Tiny (Happy? Thor?) or  Keyop (Vision?) -  JARVIS would have been their 7-Zark- 7 of course….  if I have time/spoons/inspiration - I may do something with this.   

* Dec Adoptable: Caning - Posted Chapter One of The Sultan’s Gifts  over the weekend. It’s basically an extended PWP scene with sub!Steve/ sub!Bucky as concubines gifted to Dom!Tony.  There’s a bit of impact play (thanks to this prompt and the SRB Crops/Floggers/Whips square). I also threw in my SAUB Pre-Serum Steve Rogers  and Build a Bucky Bingo  Polyamory prompts for good measure!  It came in at 972 words.  

* Jan Adoptable: Enemies to Lovers -  working to fit this into another Flash Fiction Friday-inspired fic -  To Earn the Dragon’s Heart  was written for prompt  [#FFF237 A Fool’s Quest] and will also fill my SAUB AU: Fantasy square.  This is also inspired by CoffeeOwl’s really cool dragon!Steve/ indebted!Tony prompt in the STB Discord server.  The expansion is up to 678 words and will hopefully be posted on the 9th.

Another brand-new bingo I’m helping co-mod!   I’m up to fourteen  fills, four  WIPs and several  crossover ideas in play.  Not sure I’m going to get a blackout - but I’ll do my best!  

* S1 - Edging - Filled this with Ringing in the New, where Tony makes a suggestion to improve/change up their love life. It’s a crossover with a Flash Fiction Friday prompt: How Do You Use ‘It’? and came in at 324 words - I will post it to Ao3 before the event is over.

* S3 - AU: Wings -  think I need to pivot on this - maybe I’ll be self-indulgent and do a second remix of some part of Take What Was Wrong (And Make it Right) from Steve’s POV - since  the first remix  is Bucky POV (and therefore tricky to make Stony-focused) 

* S5 - Accidental Baby Acquisition - see BBB Yelena Belova  - this may have to come off the table/pivot to something else.  

* T1 - AU: Fantasy -  see TSB  Enemies to Lovers. 

* T2 - Adopting a Cat - combined this with a Flash Fiction Friday prompt  [#FFF236 Fight or Flight]  for  Feline Fight and Flight  - which will probably get a better title before I post it to Ao3.😁 This No Powers established Stony ficlet - where Tony’s rescuing a stray cat and Steve helps out -  came in at  390 words.

The good folks over at @buckybarnesevents  have opened this event up early!  You sign up for a single row card of four squares and the challenge is to see if you can combine any/all into a single Bucky-centric AU fanwork - although you can also create 2-4 separate fanworks if you want.  

The combo of prompts on my first card [Reality Show,  Omegaverse, Talent/Manager, Royalty] sparked an idea that I’m about 230 words + misc notes into already -  Alpha!Bucky as a technical prince   who gets talked into joining a reality show that is supposed to match him up with an omega… but there’s a twist!   I’m torn between striking while the iron is hot vs spending time on the fics that have a looming deadline…  🙃

Dohwa finds herself with a man who gets injured on his journey. The man thought the lady he met was of high status. Dohwa brings him to the castle to get treated which makes his assumptions even more believable. Dohwa thinks he won't like her because of where she stands in society but little does she know he love her since he saw her.

Hello all,

Hope all is well with everyone, despite all the nasty illnesses going round, that I had a piece of too. It's been a little while since the last newsletter, here in brief is the latest news and details of some forthcoming shows. 

AWARD NOMINATION

For the fourth year running, I've been nominated in the UK Blues Awards, this time in the new category of Traditional Blues Artist of the Year. It would be great if you could spare the time to vote for me, it doesn't take long. For your vote to count, you have to vote in at least 5 categories. I'm aware that many people who like and follow what I do may not be hugely knowledgeable of the UK Blues world, so by way of help with that I can point out festivals I've played (Swanage and Upton), venues I've done gigs at (100 Club Tuesday Blues, Tuesday Night Music Club, Temperance), shows I've been on (Cerys Matthews, Gary Grainger, Richard Dunning, Paul Long), and artists I know personally (Acoustic, Trevor Steger). NEW ALBUM

Called Fools & Clowns, this will be out pretty soon, the last of the behind the scenes preparation is currently going on. It'll be available for pre-order before long, and at gigs too. 

We're really pleased with it, and it's a bit of a departure from what we've done before, building on our style to produce a slightly different set of sounds. The songs are all newly written originals, with a range of subject matter that you don't normally come across in songs (as usual). It's unmistakeably us, and hopefully it'll have you smiling, thinking and dancing! More information soon, including ordering link.

Lots of shows in great venues coming up. We're out there doing something new and original, with recognisable elements of the classic music of the past. If you loved the great artists of the golden period decades ago, you'll like what we do too and recognise it as something that may well have fitted in well back then. And it really is new, with songs about life as people live it today, and stories you won't have heard before, all delivered with totally individual musicianship. Do come to shows and do spread the word to anyone you feel will like what we do.
