Quinton Wyatt is reluctant to say goodbye to the carefree days of his high school career — but his friend Hamilton is REALLY, REALLY reluctant to say goodbye to the carefree days of his high school career. Fortunately for him, Ham's found a way to avoid reality and keep the high school role-playing game alive — by joining a rather sketchy organization known as The Queen's Secret Order of Chivalry & Knighthood.

My July Uppercase book box arrived - a gift from reader and friend Lynn Postlewait - and I am so excited! It includes a signed copy of #YAlit contemporary CALL IT WHAT YOU WANT by @brigidkemmerer who is one of my top favorite authors, and who I will read anything that she wrote. I've already started it and I'm really enjoying. I always do with her books! Uppercae also included a beautiful book bag "Booktovert: energy renewed through Reading" (which is totally me), a book pin "One mistake doesn't define you" for CALL IT WHAT YOU WANT, and two enamel book pins. And of course the Uppercase links to bonus material for the book. I also love that Brigid Kemmerer signed her book with her first initial and last name instead of like some of the signed copies I've gotten were they only sign their initials. It feels like an early birthday present! I am delighted! Thank you so very much Lynn! #brigidkemmerer #callitwhatyouwant #Uppercase #booklove #bookrecs #yabookrecommendations #bookrecommendations #yabookrecs #cherylrainfield #YAwriter #LGBTQwriter #booknerd #bookworm #ireadYA #survivor #feminist #YAlit #YAbooks #bookstagram https://www.instagram.com/p/B0GjEJ0gRTH/?igshid=1dtlvukqx3qyg

Spoiler alert: They Both Die At The End. (by Adam Silvera) This book proves that life is really about the journey, not the destination. It brings up some heavy topics and philosophical questions without actually feeling heavy or philosophical, which makes it a great read for teens. After all, we all die at the end, yet the moments leading up to the end are what truly matter, and it's up to us to make the most of it. Recommended for: Teenage boys (one of the few YA books with 2 male leads) ... #amreading #amreadingya #bookstagram #yafiction #yabooklove #yabookstagram #adamsilvera #theybothdieattheend #readingcommunity #readersofig #readersofinstagram #bookrecs #yabookreview #yabookrecs #bookreview #mentalhealthawareness #livefully #livelifetothefullest #livelikeyouweredying https://www.instagram.com/p/CQvli9eLpm1/?utm_medium=tumblr

The Quinton's Curious Mind Series is complete!
With the release of My Summer (and the Song of Cicadas), you can follow the highly creative and equally anxious Quinton Wyatt throughout his high school years.
It is June 1981 and Quinton Wyatt has just graduated from high school. In three months' time, he'll start a new adventure at an out-of-state university. That doesn’t give him much time to pack, to finalize his roommate situation, and deal with two loves—one urging him to go, the other begging him to stay.
This is the third and final book in the Quinton’s Curious Mind series, bringing to an end Quint’s long quest to find love, friendship, and himself.

I LOVE this article by Lesley Roessing on Dr. Bickmore's YA Wednesday on strong-girl characters in YA lit. And I'm honored that she including Kendra from SCARS in it! Her article: https://bit.ly/31ECJsP I also especially love that she said: "In contemporary novels, strong female characters demonstrate resilience over a variety issues and concerns—facing challenges, traumas, and adversity in diverse forms. These are characters who mirror the issues that are faced by current adolescent girls and who provide models and maps for navigating those problems." We need to know we're not alone. Being alone and in pain makes the pain so much worse, but when we see we're not alone it helps lighten the pain and helps us feel better. And when we see others in books surviving something hard or traumatic that we have, too, and getting through it, then we realize that we can, too. And that it can get better. Thank you so very much to Lesley for this fantastic article and shout out to SCARS! #nancydrew #stronggirls #yabookrecommendations #YAbookrecs #lesleyroessing #cherylrainfield #YAwriter #LGBTQwriter #booknerd #bookworm #ireadYA #survivor #feminist #YAlit #YAbooks #bookstagram #bookrecs #SCARS #selfharm #sexualabuse #trauma #healing https://www.instagram.com/p/B8RsW2MA8Ou/?igshid=1vypul2fcgzlm

I visited @chaptersscarborough with a friend yesterday, and I was so happy to see that they had #LGBTQIA book displays in both the picture book section and in the YA fiction section even though Pride Month is over. LGBTQIA books should be visible and accessible all year long. I would have liked to see more lesbian and trans books in the YA section since we are usually underrepresented but overall it was fantastic to see. @chaptersindigo you did a good thing. @robinstevensonwrites your book Pride was faceout! The LGBTQIA books featured were: Kidlit: -It Feels GoodTo Be Yourself: A Book About Gender Identity by Theresa Thorn and Noah Grigni -Red: A Crayon's Story by Michael Hall -Pride: Celebrating Diversity & Community by Robin Stevenson -Maiden & Princess by Daniel Haack & Isabel Galupto, ill. by Becca Human -Worm Loves Worm by J. J. Austrian and Mike Curato -Our Rainbow -A Tale Of Two Daddies by Vanita Oelschlager and Kristen Blackwood -Queer Heroes: Meet 53 LGBTQ Heroes From Past and Present by Arabelle Sicardi and Sarah Tanat-Jones -And Tango Makes Three by Justin Richardson and Peter Parnell, ill. by Henry Cole YA Books: -Simon VS. The Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli -This Book Is Gay by Juno Dawson and David Levithan -Everything Leads To You by Nina LaCour -What If It's Us by Becky Albertalki and Adam Silvera -More Happy Than Not by Adam Silvera -The Inexplicable Logic Of My Life by Benjamin Alire Saenz #lgbtqiabooks #yalgbtq #lgbtqiaYA #lgbtqkidlit #yabookrecommendations #yabookrecs #bookrecs #weneeddiversebooks #cherylrainfield #YAwriter #LGBTQwriter #booknerd #bookworm #ireadYA #survivor #feminist https://www.instagram.com/p/B0tLF0IAyWA/?igshid=15yd1hq54opii

#YAlit book recommendation: @brigidkemmerer's books are always a must-read for me; I've loved every single one, including CALL IT WHAT YOU WANT. Brigid makes me care deeply about her characters, hoping so strongly for the best for them. In CALL IT WHAT YOU WANT, Rob's father was caught embezzling funds and tried to kill himself; now he's in a vegetative state, and Rob has to deal with everyone hating him. Maegan was an overachiever until she cheated big time, and had to face the consequences. Both are social pariahs at school. When the two of them are paired together in math class, they slowly become friends, and then more. I grew to care about the characters so much, rooting for them, even the side characters, and I love that she included two queer characters. I also love how Brigid wove in some social commentary and awareness into the story, including about one's moral compass; being poor; and so much more. This is a fantastic, gripping read that will move you. Highly recommended! #brigidkemmerer #callitwhatyouwant #yabookrecommendations #yabookrecs #bookrecs #bookrecommendations #yacontemporary #YAbooks https://www.instagram.com/p/B0T0uQjAQ5M/?igshid=1w0miwrbpitq0
