Yellow fieldcaps (Bolbitius titubans)
These delicate little mushrooms fruit on rotting hay or grass, or sometimes dung. They emerge as pretty, bright yellow little heads, and within the day will open up fully and lose their colour.

FOTD #009 : yellow fairy cups! (bisporella citrina)
yellow fairy cups (AKA lemon discos) are fungi in the family helotiaceae. they are found in north africa, asia, europe, australia, new zealand, north america, & central + south america. fruit bodies are typically encountered growing in dense clusters on the surface of rotten wood (especially deciduous trees), particularly beech.
the big question : can i bite it??
nah - they are inedible.
b. citrina description :
"fruit bodies begin as spherical, closed globules, before expanding. the smooth, bright yellow fruit bodies are small—typically less than 3 mm (1⁄8 in) in diameter & up to 1 mm (1⁄32 in) high—& shallowly cup- or disc-shaped. the inner surface is smooth, & bright yellow, while the outer surface is a paler yellow. in mass, the spore color is white. the stalk is broad, pale yellow in color, & short to nearly absent; when present it is rarely more than 1 mm. the fruit bodies may be so numerous that their shapes are distorted by overcrowding. fruit bodies that have dried are wrinkled & have a dull orangish-brown color."

Yellow fieldcap (Bolbitius titubans)
Always lovely to spot these bright fungi in the grass in the morning, before it dries and loses its brightness, disappearing in less than a day.
