(this might be the greatest thing i’ve ever drawn. it’s also heavily based on my ‘greens survive the dance’ fic. and yes, aegon is standing on tiptoes because there’s no way he’d be taller than aemond otherwise)

was thinking real hard about how akechi could have possibly managed school, an extremely demanding detective job, being an actual celebrity?? and a hitman?? while also finding time to brood, explore the metaverse, fuel his desire for vengeance against his father, stalk the phantom thieves, AND juggle the debilitating emotional effects of knowing he needs to kill the guy he’s become unhealthily obsessed with (who, coincidentally, he also somehow finds time to hang out with frequently. totally for reconnaissance, of course! it’s, uh, just a work thing. he HATES him.)
then I remembered high schoolers are just like that. oh akechi, you would’ve burnt out in one more year tops.

i like that they spent three seasons on taub’s tumultuous marriage where they took his unfaithfulness really seriously and we’d get these boring scenes of him and rachel just talking about their boring marital problems but then in s7/8 post their divorce they decided to take a hard left into having him cheat on a young nurse with his now ex wife and getting them both pregnant simultaneously and then having two daughters both called sophie. the sitcomification of house md has its issues but that was a definite win. they apologised for three seasons of the most boring plot you could possibly think up by just putting taub in a straight up farce. like he’s basically just in his own comedy show at that point

Johnny Cade appreciation post because he’s the guy the gang could talk to and the one who they knew would listen. He’s the guy who Ponyboy could watch movies and sunsets and read books with. He’s the guy who Dallas loved so much he felt he couldn’t live without him (even just in the split moments in which he died and then Dallas did). He’s the kid who wanted his parents to care about him, despite their beating and degradation on his existence. Everybody needs a friend like Johnny. I love Johnny.

I think something that bothers me about how the writers handled Rebecca’s actions was that,,, not only were there no mentions of it afterwards save for like two jokes…but nobody was upset with her after she apologized. everyone moved on? The people who knew, anyways. There weren’t any consequences for her, really. higgins, julie, ted, keeley, they all moved on and acted like it wasn’t a big deal. whereas Jamie’s entire three season arc is consumed by his s1 actions. he had to fight tooth and nail to get back into the team’s good graces, to prove himself to the coaches and keeley and everyone. Even in s3, the coaches are shown to not value his growth and keep thinking of jamie “prick” tartt instead of seeing him as someone capable of being better and different. idk. It just bothers me that in a show about forgiveness and being better, rebecca only had to apologize and everything was forgiven, while Jamie literally could not Not be defined by how he was

Yes we all like to make fun of Bobby for saying “this is not a family” immediately before adopting everybody, but that line genuinely haunts me now because. he’s a fourth generation firefighter who has been doing this job for his entire adult life. He knows damn well that your team is your family, but at this point he’s trying to keep the 118 at arm’s length and he’s only in LA at all because his St. Paul team has already rejected him, so he’s just in so much pain that he’s managed to convince himself that they really aren’t his family when that could not be further from the truth

so I heard you wanna talk religion in ttpd! let’s talk I Can Fix Him (No Really I Can).
“they shake their heads saying ‘God help her’ when I tell ‘em he’s my man.” this isn’t the outright controlling judgment of the saboteurs in But Daddy I Love Him. nobody is trying to tell her what to do or force her to break up. this is a simple admission that the situation she’s in is difficult, that she’s chosen a hard path and needs help. and what is her response? “your good Lord doesn’t need to lift a finger, I can fix him, no really I can.” she admits salvation is needed. but Taylor is casting herself as the savior. she doesn’t need any help, any grace, any divine assistance. in fact, she doubles down: “only I can”. she and she alone has the power to reform this man, because of the love between them. it’s reminiscent of False God, except now the idol isn’t their love, it’s just her. she’s going to save him.
what’s interesting to me is we don’t know how the themes of salvation would have been recapitulated in light of the reversal at the end of the song, “whoa maybe I can’t”, because the song ends there. maybe she can’t fix him because he is ultimately unfixable, irredeemable, worthless. or maybe she can’t fix him because she’s not God. and honestly, I think the song is meant to leave us wondering. she’s waking up to reality, but is the reality his smallness of soul or her power trip?
so what is the blatant Christian language in this song for? is it telling us that Christianity is evil for implanting the idea of redemption into our minds when it doesn’t really exist? or is it a hint that trying to become our own gods, even with the best of intentions, is a pathway that leads only to death?

I was wondering who kipperlily was reminding me of, and I finally remembered last night—ocean from ride the cyclone. as in, yes, these morals are fucked but also this is a child. it is the moral duty of the adults around her to foster better morals and traits like compassion and empathy. I can’t blame her for being so primed to be taken advantage of; that being said, if/when that influence is removed and if she is given a chance to change, that is on her.
in a meta sense, brennan has established that there is a difference in the teenage villains he creates, and the vast majority of them are not pure irredeemable evil—they were influenced/groomed into their role and given external support/the ability to be free from that and change, they take it. how I’m seeing it, that’s being set up for at least a few of the rat grinders.
