Some notes:

No new tags that I saw this month, though as always I could have missed something! As you can see, we already have quite the assortment of canonized tags.

Fics are still primarily in english, but we have three exceptions with significant spanish fics. Karmaland (740 of 842 are in spanish, from 731 last month), Tortillaland (110 of 115 are in spanish, the same as last month), and QSMP (752 of 7,375 are in spanish, from 668 last month.)

QSMP also shows 39 fics in French, up from 30 last month, and 405 in Brasilian Portugese, up from 375 last month. While I did not check every language this month, I checked on the languages I knew had a fic in QSMP and we see 1 fic in ASL (probably a misclick as it appears to be in english), 1 fic in Bahasa Malaysia, 1 fic in German, 1 fic in Esperanto, 1 fic in Filipino, 5 works in European Portugese, 5 fics in Русский (Russian), 1 fic in Suomi (Finnish), 1 fic in Tiếng Việt (Vietnamese), and 3 fics in 中文-普通话 國語 (Mandarin Chinese, I believe), all the same as last month. New is two fics in Polski (Polish), one fic in Svenska (Swedish), and one fic in Dansk (Danish).

In the small and micro fandoms (under 200 fics), some of the most active small fandoms have grown out of this category so we only saw small amounts of growth. The standout fandoms all saw an increase of 6 works, and that was a tie between Content SMP, New Life SMP, and Witchcraft SMP. Note that Content SMP was coming up from only 24 works, so 6 new works is an increase of 25% of the fandom, truly impressive.

In the midsize fandoms (200-1000), Fable SMP has broken that 1000-fic mark and can no longer qualify for our standout fandom! Instead, our most active fandom was Evolution SMP, with 33 new works, followed by Mystreet with 20 fics and Minecraft: Story Mode with 24 fics. Mystreet and Story Mode are both new fandoms so it's unclear whether that's people retagging old work or true new fics.

For the post-canon big fandoms: Empires went up by 178 works, singificantly more than last month's 117, but not beating the previous month's 240, and Dream SMP's increase of 918 beat the previous month's 767, but is still only the second time I've seen this fandom fall under a thousand works plus a month. Hermitcraft is between seasons right now, but still experienced that holiday exchange boost, as its increase of 784 beat both last month's 574 and the previous month's 651. For active fandoms, traffic series posted a staggering 831 fics, which is its highest ever number, beating April 2023's 671 fics. QSMP saw 865 fics, which is part of a three month decline (894 last month, 913 the month before), but still posting numbers that are only exceeded by DSMP.

Overall, the number of fics posted under Video Blogging-RPF (the umbrella fandom that contains all MCYT) is 4,223 fics, a significant increase from last month's 3,489, and the previous month's 4,035, but still exceeded by October's record 4,702. Notably, it's higher than the summer numbers and almost exactly the same as the number we saw last January, 4,235 new works.

౨ - 6 yrs old - ৎ

Little Kimi stood over you as you cried on the floor of your bedroom after you hurt your hand from drawing.

"Y/n?" Kimi crossed his arms.

You sniffle, trying to stop the tears. "..yes, Kimi?"

"Do you like Kit Kats?" You nod in answer, a little confused as to why he might be asking that.

Kimi takes out something from his pocket. "Have a Kit Kat." He takes off the wrapper, breaking the Kit Kat in half. He offers one Kit Kat piece to you. You hesitate before taking the Kit Kat, giving it a small bite.

Kimi sits in front of you in a criss-cross, placing his Kit Kat on the wrapper that layed on the floor next to him. He takes your hurt hand, giving it a little kiss. You wipe your tears with a smile.

"Better?" Kimi asks, a little softer in tone this time.

"Better." You nod, smiling widely. Kimi gives you a small smile, taking a bite of his Kit Kat.

౨ - 11 yrs old - ৎ

You watched from the sofa as Kimi walked into the pantry after a long day of karting. He came out with an unwrapped Kit Kat in his hand.

"Hi, Kimi-Kat." You say, going back to watching the TV.

Kimi tilts his head at you, visibly confused, his eyebrows furrowed. "'Kimi-Kat,' huh?" He asks curiously, in his usual monotone voice.

"Your favourite chocolate, Kit Kat + Kimi = Kimi-Kat!" You giggle from your seat.

You couldn't see it, but Kimi smiled. "Only you're allowed to call me that, then."

౨ - 22 yrs old - ৎ

Kimi throws off his racing suit as he enters your room, shutting the door behind him. You look up from your book as you sat on your bed.

"Bad race?" You ask softly, patting the seat next to you. Kimi flops down next to you.

"Yeah." He mumbled in response, looking at the ceiling as he layed on the bed.

You take something from your snack stash, taking the wrapper and cracking the chocolate in half. "Have a Kit Kat."

Kimi looks at you, then the chocolate in your hand. He gives you a small smile.

"What?" You look at him curiously, the Kit Kat pieces still held out in your hand. "I'll take both pieces if you don't want it. You always give me Kit Kats when I have a bad day. I should return the favour."

Kimi's small smile turns into a grin. He doesn't say anything, but he takes one Kit Kat piece and bites it. You smile at him, placing a bookmark in your book and putting it on your bedside table.

"Better?" You ask softly.

"Mm." He responds, finishing his Kit Kat.

You raise your eyebrows. "What's that supposed to mean, Kimi-Kat?"

"I'm better. Ish." He shrugs.

"Kimiiii, what can I do to make it better?" You furrow your eyebrows, pushing some of his hair so you can see his face.

"A kiss."

A kiss?

You can't help but blush.

"Does the look on your face mean I can't get a kiss and my day can't get better?" Kimi smirks at you.

"Asshole. C'mere, Kimi-Kat." You wrap your arms around his neck, your lips meeting in a gentle manner.

Kimi grins against your lips, placing his arms around your waist as he let's you tackle him.

His tongue slides in, both of you tasting the sweet chocolate on eachothers lips.

A few moments later, you pull apart, looking into eachothers eyes. "I love you as much as I love Kit Kats." You giggle.

"I love you as much as anything, kultaseni." Kimi responds with a happy sigh. 'sweetheart'

Have you played PRAEDOR ?

Based on a long-running series of comics originally published in Finnish roleplaying magazine Magus written by Petri Hiltunen, Praedor is a fantasy role-playing game set in the post-apocalyptic fantasy world of Jaconia as the titular Praedors, who are basically nothing but glorified scavengers going through the ruins of past civilizations.

Praedor uses a classless system that mostly utilizes six-sided dice and has a reputation for being grim and gritty in contrast with traditional fantasy RPGs. It has recently seen something of a revival, with multiple supplements and novelizations released between 2016 and 2023.

I am a bit shy to post this poll, but also, very curious about your opinion, so here we go.

After reading the Finnish sequel to Emily of New Moon series, and comparing it to the later Anne books, another question came to my mind:

SPOILERS for Emily's sequel (my opinion is beneath the summary):

It was a quite important issue in the Finnish sequel. Emily was very apprehensive when it came to an eventual motherhood. It was stated multiple times that she had no maternal instinct whatsover (very Rilla-like). She didn't want to sacrifice her writing - and she felt that she would have to, if she had children. One of the things she was dealing with in this sequel was writer's block - she found it very difficult to write. Thankfully, she overcame the issue and wrote another novel, at the end of the story. Emily was not exactly against having children (more like, resigned "If they come, there is nothing to be done"), but she certainly was not excited about the idea, unlike Anne.

Emily went as far as telling an annoying reporter that she and her husband were NOT going to have any children. Teddy, on the other hand, was described as wanting a family (which, for a short time, was a bit of a sore issue between them).

Emilia Kent - Runotytön tarina jatkuu takes place during the first two (?) years of Emily and Teddy's marriage. They don't have any children during this time - yet the narrative suggests that Emily is pregnant during the last two chapters (nothing is said straight-forwardly, though).

My opinion:

I personaly have trouble picturing these two as parents. They seem far too invested into their work to find time for their eventual children.

On the other hand, LMM herself wanted children - and it was quite difficult to prevent pregnancy at these times (not impossible, of course, but difficult). Usually, marriage meant having children.

Also... Rilla, who did not like babies, couldn't help loving little Jims. We learn from "The Blythes Are Quoted" that she and Ken had, indeed, become parents to young Gilbert Ford.

Rilla's maturation is partly described via taking care of her war baby - as if to say that even people who seemingly had no parental instinct, could grow to love a child (it is not exactly true in a real world, but LMM seems to use this trope rather often; Aunt Elizabeth with Juliet and Emily, Marilla with Anne and the twins, Andrew Stuart with Jane, etc).

Also, this paragraph from Emily's Quest suggests that Emily might have wanted children at the end of the story:

"Daff," she said, "there is an old fireplace in that house—with the ashes of a dead fire in it—a fireplace where pussies should bask and children dream. And that will never happen now, Daff, for Mabel Geordie doesn't like open fireplaces—dirty, dusty things—a Quebec heater is so much warmer and more economical."

Emily's dreams are connected to the Disappointed House - I always felt that she talked about her feelings there - but that is very far-stretched and the only thing that might suggest something.

So, if I were to answer my own question: I would probably say: either none, either 1 or 2. I definitely don't see her as having a big family.

bruh I had an OC named Miko that I first drew like a year ago and I was like "nahhh i ain't using that" but for some reason she's back again (her original artwork was this lol (she looks so different now): https://www.deviantart.com/deadly-espresso/art/Miko-REF-2-3-23-947968921) I get that I really didn't post about Miko even on deviantart, but honestly this character had a weird as hell origin. I had originally created the idea of her for a ghost and pals fanfic that i had started working on even before I, say, wrote those COMMUNICATIONS fan remakes a while back (I actually started development on the fanfic way back in January of 2023 and only recently have I gotten a draft of the story that's almost complete and will be used as a reference for the final version of the fic). Funny enough, she wasn't even supposed to be a major character in the story, just a close friend of the protag. some other details about Miko that i ended up writing for her (although they aren't that relevant to the fic that I intended her to appear in) include the following: - Miko Mylläri is of Japanese and Finnish decent (that's why they have a Finnish surname but also a design slightly themed after a miko/shrine maiden? And funny enough Miko is a name that is used in both Finnish and Japanese) - Miko Mylläri is from New York City (but now lives in Watertown, which yes it is a real city in New York and yes NEW YORK IS NOT JUST THE CITY), and they aspire to become a filmmaker. - Some of Miko's favorite things include Studio Ghibli films, paintings of nature scenes, and pears.

Hmmm I think it depends a bit of the case? I think you here have good intentions, but since "using" is very broad term I'm going to answer kind of broadly here and not just yes/no in case someone else would refer to this ask at another context.

So, all of my works are copyrighted under Finnish/EEA copyright laws. The copyright is created and valid automatically from the moment of creation of the art piece (and it also includes sketches I've posted on Patreon, for example). My answers are based on those copyright laws and on my personal preferences within those.

USING: I'm ok with most personal use. That is, for example, printing out a single image for personal use or using a picture on your blog header or as personal playlist (spotify etc) cover art AS LONG as it is not a piece commissioned by someone else.

If you own a print you have ordered from me, you have also right to display it publicly (i.e. posting a photo of it). Owning a print doesn't however mean that you get right to print more copies for sale.

I'm not ok with my art used in buyable products or copies of my art sold by others than those I've individually authorized. I have copyright even to commissioned pieces, so even those cannot be used in products without my consent. this is actually the only piece of writing advice or technique that’s ever worked for me and my swiss-cheesed brain: somehow i managed to convince myself, in the depths of a very bad creative injury, that Increasing The Fucking Thing by a sentence, just a few words, every single day, counts on some nebulous cosmic scale as Increasing The Fucking Thing, and therefore has value. this is why my creative output is so [wiggly hand gesture] in terms of quantity, but hey, This One Weird Trick has kept me in the game for some years now when i would otherwise have quit, so we’ll call it a good thing overall. Doctors Hate Her!

You mentioned Six Korea was a replica production, what exactly does that mean with reference to the other productions?

Hey! Yes, my apologies for not defining that! “Replica production” is basically used to describe any production using the same designs and choreography (usually in tandem with any directing/cut song/etc directions) as a prior or pre-existing production of that show. For example:

- if a Broadway show opens an associated national tour, that tour is almost always a replica of the Bway production

- sometimes we see revivals that are replicas of an earlier production (this usually happens because a production closed and then reopened because that initial production had gained significant interest since, like Beetlejuice, or because the original production is just too iconic to change, like A Chorus Line)

- international productions that keep the same base design/choreography/etc as original Bway/WE would be categorized as replica

Note that all replica productions aren’t exactly identical. There’s often some variance or changes. Sometimes that’s in materials, based on differing budgets and/or supply. @operafantomet does a fantastic job of cataloguing a lot of the changes in replica, semi-replica, and non-replica Phantom productions (here’s a post showing some of the variance in replica Star Princess bodices). Sometimes it’s in choreography or blocking, with some slight changes made to adapt a show to a different stage and all the changed technical aspects that exist there (different dimensions or set-ups). The musical Fun Home was built to be performed in-the-round, so when they switched to a national tour they had to re-block the production to work in typical proscenium theaters. Even Six has some of these changes - all current productions are technically replicas, but of course many of the productions use different materials and have some changed staging!

On the other hand, non-replica productions are new productions that don’t take heavily to the point of near-replication from prior productions, often with a different creative team. Nearly every revival is non-replica. Some international are as well; take this as an example of Anya’s red and gold dress from Anastasia as an example:

The Finnish designers did take some loose inspiration with the color scheme, updo, and silhouette, but it’s obviously not anywhere near identical, is designed by someone else, and is part of a non-replica production.

Or with regards to recent UK productions, the current Newsies production very notably doesn’t use the initial choreography/staging/design of the initial Bway/US Tours and would be referred to as non-replica as well (it’s adapted brilliantly actually, I’ll talk about that sometime).

You also may sometimes hear the term “semi-replica.” It’s not half as common and not really an official term in the same way that replica and non-replica are, but people sometimes use it to describe productions with both replica elements and entirely original elements. Phantom has had a few productions that people will sometimes describe as semi-replica; the pared-down production that opened on the West End post-lockdown would be one example (again, if anyone is interested in examples I’ll refer you to @operafantomet).

Bit of reminder/context : Nomads in a rp I started in @selkys original post-apo universe, that kind of turned into a giant collabortive novel… I write mainly two characters in it : Siv and Jasper. So here’s facts about them !

• They're both from the same village, isolated from the rest of the world but didn't know each other before leaving for separate reasons. • In a modern AU, that would make them from Norway (I could see Jasper with finnish origins tho.) • Siv tends to try to learn EVERYTHING that catch her interest, she needs someone to actually focus her on a particular field. Jasper on the contrary tends to be hyper focused on a specific set of skills, and terrible at the rest. • In a modern AU again, Siv would be an art student. Jasper an specialist in animal behavior/trainer (failed vet school several times due to academic learning difficulties). • In a modern AU again-again (sorry, I think it sumarize them more easily xD) Siv's favorite games would be Animal Crossing and MMOs. Jasper would be BOTW and Souls-like games. • If you were wondering : yes they kissed once ! …during a drinking game.

Some notes

A new fandom this month! Showtime SMP is new, bringing this up to 49 tags that I track.

Fics are still primarily in english, but we have three exceptions with significant spanish fics. Karmaland (750 of 857 are in spanish, from 740 last month), Tortillaland (109 of 115 are in spanish, down from 110 last month), and QSMP (827 of 8104 are in spanish, from 752 last month.)

QSMP also shows 43 fics in French, up from 39 last month, and 452 in Brasilian Portugese, up from 405 last month. While I did not check every language this month, I checked on the languages I knew had a fic in QSMP and we see 1 fic in ASL (probably a misclick as it appears to be in english), 1 fic in Bahasa Malaysia, 1 fic in Dansk (Danish), 1 fic in Deutsch (German), 1 fic in Esperanto, 1 fic in Filipino, 5 works in European Portugese, 2 fics in Polski (Polish), 7 fics in Русский (Russian) (up from 5 last month), 1 fic in Suomi (Finnish), 1 fic in Svenska (Swedish), 1 fic in Tiếng Việt (Vietnamese), and 3 fics in 中文-普通话 國語 (Mandarin Chinese, I believe). While a 한국어 (Korean) speaker was recently added to the QSMP, there are currently no fics in 한글 (written Korean).

In the small and micro-sized fandoms, several of the smaller fandoms posted a decrease, including Legacy SMP, Bear SMP, and Area Unknown. HBG, on the other hand, posted a frankly impressive 16-fic increase, and both New Life and Witchcraft saw a 8-fic increase.

In the mid-sized fandoms, the showstopper was Minecraft Diaries, which went up a staggering 140 fics, which makes me suspect a sub-tag got wrangled into them. Pirates SMP and Outsiders SMP both saw 20 fic increases, and Mystreet saw an increase of 24 fics.

In the post-canon big fandoms, Empires went up by 188 works, which is an increase on both January's 178 and December's 117, but not beating November's 240. Dream SMP's increase of 591 works is the single lowest number I've seen since I've started tracking tags, being exceeded by both January's 918 and December's 767, which were the first months I'd seen the increase being lower than a thousand. 3rd Life, now that we're outside of a season, posted a respectable 558 fics, down from last month's record high of 831.

In the currently airing big fandoms, Hermitcraft saw that new-season boom, as it posted 716 fics, not as high as January's 784 (holiday exchanges), but beating both December and November's 574 and 651. QSMP posted 729 fics this month, which is part of a four-month decline (865 last month, 894 the month before, 913 the month before), but is still the fandom with the single biggest increase over a month. Incidentally, that means that Dream SMP is beat by both Hermitcraft and QSMP this month, and 3rd life is close behind it.

Overall, the number of fics posted under Video Blogging-RPF (the umbrella fandom that contains all MCYT), is 3,513 fics, down from January's 4,223, December's 3,489, and November's 4,035. Incidentally, it's very close to what we saw last year at the same time, as February '23 saw a VB RPF increase of 3,674.

Today: Meseország Mindenkié (English Title: A Fairy Tale For Everyone)

Ah yes, The Fairy Tale Book™

(My three copies of the book in front of a mural in my local queer centrum, along with my Pride bat plushie. In front is the Hungarian, behind it the German and Czech copies.)

Meseország Mindenkié, literally translates as “Fairy Tale Land Belongs To Everybody”, is an inclusive Hungarian fairy tale book published in September 2020. It features seventeen stories by various authors. Some are traditional fairy tales reimagined to be more diverse, some are original stories. Aside of featuring (some) protagonists who are Romani and/or queer, they also revolve around subjects like valuing your elders and disabled people.

Very quickly after being published, Meseország Mindenkié came to face a huge backlash, that then evolved into an international controversy. The situation really blew up when, on the 25th September, a right-wing politician publicly shredded it. This brought the book to the attention of the entire country, and sparked very strong feelings in both sides, as the homophobes freaked out about the gay stories in the book, while the liberals freaked out about the public book destruction. The entire country was buzzing for a while. Prime Minister Orbán condemned the book on radio, and later used it as part of his reasoning for the very homophobic censorship law of 2021. Abroad, the Time magazine published an article about it. British actor Sir Ian McKellen said that he would have loved a book like this growing up. It was a whole Thing.

This controversy proved to be great publicity, as not only has the book needed to be reprinted multiple times, but it also has been translated to English, German, French, Dutch, Swedish, Finnish, Estonian, Czech, Slovak, Polish and Italian.

@freakova Yes! yes there is! :D :D whoever edited that TVtropes page I mentioned is wrong, I'm not sure if they just didn't have the track available bc of region-restrictions on Netflix (like here for example, we don't get some shows) or bc they have some downloaded version which only has other tracks, but whoever recorded/ripped it originally, didn't have the JP dub track. I suspect it might be the latter.

I know I watched a bit of the japanese version in august, so I wonder if it's those 2 options or maybe even that most people don't watch netflix on PCs/laptops on their browsers, and so they miss out on the extra dubs on TV. That's smth that I often miss on our Netflix, i.e. some shows will have a finnish dub (the closest language to estonian where I don't need subtitles myself), but if it's smth super popular, it won't show the option for the finnish dub on the TV version of netflix at all. Japanese is a language very often missing in the TV version for many things, doesn't seem to be related to how J is in the middle of the alphabet, but rather, whatever system of regions Netflix uses to give suggestions to users. But if I switch to finnish on my PC, it will continue that show/other shows with available dub in my selected language. This goes for subs too!

But also, fun TMNT trivia: he plays Donnie in the Bayverse japanese dub hehe x3 )

I think I found this randomly while going through twitter searching for something else. Definitely did not know about this VA before, but it's cool how happy he seemed about tweeting abt this show.

He sounds really nice as Usagi! He has that youthful and curious but annoying quality to it which makes Usagi unique and he sounds just as excited as the original, so the acting is on-point too. I've heard some people say that they like the JP dub over the EN original, but I honestly like both. There is a bit of a difference between Kengo (JP) and Darren (EN) with how different of a timber their voices have, but it's a very subtle difference. I've also watched the finnish and german dubs (both languages which I actually understand/speak more than japanese) and those also had very good Usagi voices. The russian dub versions sounds a bit deeper/ older but otherwise, the acting itself is fine, so it doesn't really bother me. In some versions, either Tetsujin or Gen sound either too young or too old for their roles, but otherwise, most of the dubs for this show at least, sound pretty good and similar to the og.

Anyway, I am not thinking of doing a spring cleaning on TV tropes now to clean up any more old/misleading info hehehe >:3c

For this I'm gonna pick a playlist of songs that I would play if I was a DJ at a clup. It started when me and my fiends complained how we were at supposedly "lgbt"-themed party during pride and they didn't play (in our opinion) any gay music. Then I started growing the playlist one night planning it more and dividing it into parts etc. It's 8 hours long currently....

(on my defence, I think this would do well if you played this at a night clup in Finland, this is at least a karaoke classic. Also yes the playlist has a " iconic finnish classics" section)

(I don't actually like this song but at the time of adding it I needed filler because I wanted the playlist to be multiple hours long, and well, the playlist does have eurovision section, except I put Saara in the "general pop songs" section, because the esc section is reserved for actual bangers)

I put this in the playlist because I wanted to being some goth clup vibe, and I like this rock version justas much as the original!
