Like barring the literal mirroring of Hunter and Caleb at the beginning of the episode and the Tale of the brother's Wittebane showing you who's supposed to represent the brothers using an animation from Hollow Mind... The tale foreshadowed Luz dying by Philip's hand:

"Philip set off to save his brother and bring the witch to justice."

This is not the only example of Luz being foreshadowed to die by Philips hand. In TTT, Luz is foreshadowed to die 3 times, here they are in order.

1.) During Camila's dream, Luz kills herself with a dagger - a weapon that's associated exclusively with Philip.

2.) When Hunter and Luz are in the basement of Caleb's house, we see this image of their shadows

Which tells us, point blank, Philip is going to kill Luz

3.) The final piece of foreshadowing is during the Tale of The Brother's Wittebane, which I've already shown you earlier with the dialogue and the image... but ill also put it here so you dont have to scroll up to see it

"Philip set off to save his brother and bring the witch to justice."

Like I legit don't know how people can miss this when it's right infront of their faces. No one else in the show besides Luz shares traits with Evelyn... so who the FUCK do you think the writers are talking about when they made Masha say "Philip set off to save his brother and bring the witch to justice."

And dont even get me started on the framing during the carriage ride - how it literally only showed Hunter's and Luz's reactions to the tale AND did this unsubtle shit:

Hunter is cosplaying as a human character and Luz is cosplaying as a witch character... as they are listening to a story about how Philip's brother was lured away to another world by a witch. You literally cannot make this shit up. This isn't a reach either - it's right there for you to see.

It's honestly so embarrassing when people bring up Luz looking like Philip in King's Tide as proof she's supposed to be Philip... The only reason why she looks like Philip is because she thinks she's just as bad as him. That was what they were trying to convey to the audience in that episode. Which is why you were never supposed to take that "parallel" seriously - as this "parallel" is based on Luz's fears and insecurities.

Also, I can't believe people are bringing up Luz "hugging" Hunter while hes possessed as PROOF she's supposed to be Philip because it looks kind of similar to the painting of Caleb hugging Philip... Luz is LITERALLY DRESSED AS A WITCH and they're using that as proof for Luz being Philip... just think about how dumb that is for a second, especially when you take into account this "hug" comes after the Tale of The Brother's Wittebane...

The show LITERALLY tells you Luz is supposed to be Evelyn and not Philip. She is the witch Philip is trying to bring to justice. [Also ya know.... Luz has been training to become a witch for THE ENTIRE SERIES. So why would she be paralled to the literal witch hunter and not the witch... make it make sense.]

This is why when Philip kills Luz - she is dressed as a witch. This is why when Luz literally and metaphorically steps into her power to defeat Philip, she is still A WITCH... like Jesus Christ... This shit doesnt require a literature degree to understand lmaooo.

Ya know, it really does suck when a fandom ruins a ship for you. Especially when you do genuinely want to like it and might have even shipped it had you consumed the media in an isolated bubble. But when fandom shoots down your views on other ships you have in the same fandom by using the soon-to-be-ruined ship against you (along with fanon you don’t subscribe to)… you end up not wanting to interact with the ship as a result.

It seems silly, but it’s almost amazing how interaction with others can have such an impact on your experience.

One of the funny things I’ve recently realized after browsing old TOH posts is that the whole idea of the ‘Luz and Hunter are siblings’ dynamic feels like almost entirely a creation of the fandom. Not only that, but a dynamic that was created basically by accident.

Consider for a moment just when and WHY fans actually started the ‘Luz and Hunter are siblings’ idea: It wasn’t in the wake of King’s Tide or after Hollow Mind when Luz and Hunter start really becoming friends, it was following Hunting Palismans. AKA, the episode where the mysterious ‘Golden Guard’ is revealed to be the show’s resident ‘edgy bad-boy with a sad backstory’ named Hunter, and also established that despite what he may think at the time, him and Luz are definitely going to be friends sooner or later.

In other words, the fandom’s idea that ‘Luz and Hunter are siblings’ started mainly as pushback against shipping those two and more notably, any theories/claims that Luz and Hunter might end up together in the show. As in, right after Hunting Palismans released, you can find a ton of posts that amount to ‘THEY’RE LIKE SIBLINGS DAMMIT!’ as fans try to get ahead of any ideas people might start getting that Luz and Hunter might be some endgame couple.

Now of course, in should have been pretty clear even when Hunting Palismans released that ‘Lunter’ was NEVER going to be an actual thing in the show. Like I’ve always commended the foresight of Dana Terrace and her crew for making sure that Amity was FIRMLY locked-in as Luz’s love-interest before they let Luz anywhere near the show’s resident ‘edgy bad-boi with a sad backstory in need of a redemption-arc’.

But for me, the funny this looking back on all this in hindsight; this presenting that Luz and Hunter are going to be like siblings as pushback against any theories that they were going to end up together romantically nonetheless made the same underlying assumption about where Hunter’s character was going: 

That he’d end up being this super-close friend and ally to Luz and that she’d be the one facilitating his redemption arc, ala Aang to Zuko or any other case of ‘hero(ine) redeems rival and they become best friends’.

And of course what makes that so funny is the fact that this DIDN’T actually happen, at least not in the way most of us were expecting. Yes, Hunter did end up being A close friend and ally to Luz, but the people who he’s actually closest to and the one who really drove and facilitated his redemption arc wound up being Willow and Gus!

In conclusion, the whole idea of ‘Luz and Hunter are siblings’ dynamic feels like one of those cases of a fandom coming up with an assumption about where characters might be going, and then forgetting that they were the ones who originally came up with it while the show itself does something else.

And also, Hunter is WAY more of an older brother to GUS than he is to Luz, and frankly I think we need more recognition of that fact XD

In my OPINION: (see the word opinion)-(you can have ur own)

HUNTLOW/WINTER: bestest ship. Works well. They complete eachother and only have a 1 and 1/2 (approx) age difference, which is pretty normal for teens. My personal favourite. Very cute, fluffy and makes u have the fuzzies. They have a good chance of long lasting relationship.

LUNTER: Lunter would work. Lunter is undeniably a great relationship. Only 2 year age gap (approx), also normal teen age. They go well together. But I headcannon them as siblings. HEADCANNON. So for me, Lunter is sweet home Alabama.

*EDIT: I no longer headcannon Lunter as siblings but I do think they they see each other as siblings.

GUNTER: Look, ship what you want but the age difference is too much for me, 4 years, isn’t a lot, but while in teenage years, it’s a bit weird. Maybe when they’re older, like in their 20’s, but as teens? Not so great. They’re closer to brothers. They would support each other. Good relationship.

HUNTRIC/GOLDRIC: Objectively, there is nothing wrong with it. They’d probably get along super well. Same age. But they haven’t even met. And along with my ‘Luz and Hunter Siblings’ headcannon, it would be a brother-in-law, so also quite incest.

AMITER: They would fight a bit, both having competitive attitudes and lots and lots of trauma. All the characters have trauma but I think Amity and Hunter as a couple would overthrow the trauma scale. Also I’m a Lumity person, so Amiter just doesn’t work for me.

HUNTLOWDRIC: um. Imma have to go with a no. Nothing wrong with it except the fact: Hunter and Edric have never met, Willow has trauma with Amity despite making it up, dating her brother is a little weird, and again it would all revolve back to the siblings thing.

SKARA AND/OR VINEY X HUNTER: Both of them would be compatible with him, but I headcannon Viney as Lesbian. Skara, she’d be fine. If Willow didn’t exist she’d probably be what I’d ship Hunter with.

VINEARA: Very goods. I likes. Viney x Skara is good, but not my fav Viney ship. Skara sits with bat boy.

VINEMIRA: Best Viney ship. Viney and Emira. The lebanons. Lesbeans. Lesbiabians. Women lovers. Both headcannoned as lesbiansss.

LUMITY: yes. Shows main ship. Cannon. Works well. Help each other. Just yes.

GUSTHOLOMULE: not a popular ship, but I quite enjoy it. Matt is gay af. I think it’s a cool ship.

The whole Goldric stepbrother's thing makes me so annoyed.

I feel like people really miss the point of a found family when they assign everyone into these stereotypical roles that family is supposed to be: Parents and children, when it can be a lot more nuanced.

I am an enjoyer of Aladarius and I do like Dadrius too, and yes, in some au´s, Edric and Hunter are step-brothers. Just like in some au´s, Luz and Hunter are siblings.

But as enjoyable as the headcanons are, they aren´t canon. Trust me, I love the Noceda siblings as much as the next guys, but a the end of the day, it can´t be used as an excuse as to why you can´t ship Lunter, regardless of how much you may dislike the ship. It could be in an au where only Darius adopts Hunter, and Camila plays no part in it.

The same can be said about Goldric. Alador and Darius didn't canonically get together and Darius didn't canonically adopt Hunter. And even if they had, there is nothing suggesting Alador would have taken any part in adopting Hunter too. It's understandably fun headcanons but it's dumb to shame people for what they enjoy because you personally subscribe to them.

I think people just need to come to terms with the fact that people will enjoy ships that you´ll dislike, and you shouldn´t be scrambling for some moral justification as to why they shouldn´t be allowed to do so. Just leave them be, block the tag if possible, and continue your own fandom experience in peace.

little preamble to say that i love how this song can apply to both lunter and caleb/evelyn - after all they're one and the same :) the fantasy motif it has going on also helps. and how it's titled "song for the birds", making a reference to flapjack... mwah!

imo this song works so good with both perspectives: the start of the song can immediately show how much luz and hunter are hiding - not from each other, but also themselves. luz's struggle with her grief and her status as an outcast in both realms, hidden under her facade of optimism; and hunter's years of abuse piling up as he struggles with his cognitive dissonance. i also love how this touches on the soulmate-y energy of if all: how they were fated to meet, once again caleb running away from philip with evelyn.

i like the first line as a hint of their playfulness (like fuck if i'm not going to EMBRACE it.) but also "do your dance / take some chances": how luz marks the beginning of hunter rebelling against belos and making a life of his own. boy is indeed taking some chances.

ah, and then:

SHE LITERALLY REACHES OUT TO HIM.

how they learned to lean on each other during TTT and luz formally welcomes him into the main group ("you're family now"). for how different their, uh, "belos demons" are, there's something so powerful about hunter's realization about belos directly impacting luz's arc. belos tricks people and that's what he does: he did it with hunter and then he did it with luz. it's a rational, real conclusion that manages to pull luz out from her guilt spiral for long enough for her to agree to go back to the demon realm.

i also love that last line: "nothing you could say could ever make me flinch". the contrast of hunter's behavior around belos VS luz during hollow mind. he makes himself small around belos, yet he legitimately opens himself up to luz. again, he takes her hand: she offers him the physical comfort of her hand (along with her trust) and he makes the decision to accept it. yes i feel very normal about all of this why'd you ask :)

i like how "bright as fire" can apply to both of them: obviously with luz ("light" in spanish) and her signature light glyph; and yellow/gold as hunter's signature color contrasting luz's purple palette. there's also the imagery of flapjack covered in flames during the wittebane story in TTT.

the rest of the bridge continues to remind us the bond between caleb and evelyn bleeding through every grimwalker, all the way to hunter and luz. there's the honoring to flapjack, too: this is a song for the birds. the little guy that introduced luz to hunter deserves nothing less.

the last verse can be interpreted in so many ways: darkness could just mean the general jumble of negative feelings both luz and hunter are dealing with in their time away from the boiling isles. in that case, we know how much they lean on each other during that. said "darkness", described as inevitable, makes it clear that they both have each other in case the guilt and grief get too much to handle.

this could also hint to the upcoming last battle against belos: both inevitable and decidedly terrible for them, and with luz and hunter being key players in the plot i don't expect anything less.

the last two lines are clear reminders of their undying loyalty to each other. with belos as a common enemy, they'll always have each other's backs. but beyond that, the recognition of their bond in the context of caleb and evelyn's story: they're bound to each other, forever. oh, romance at its finest.

If I had a nickel for everytime I shipped a m/f ship instead of the canon f/f one, because I thought the m/f ship had better chemistry and development, and had fans of the show coming after my ass and calling me a homophobe and a proshipper, even though I am gay and there wasn't anything remotely illegal or uncomfortable about the ship, I would have two nickels, which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice, right?

(Ships in question are Lunter from The Owl House and Charlastor from Hazbin Hotel. Granted, Lumity is a far better ship than Chaggie, but it still seemed really rushed and undercooked to me.)

How the hell does that make you a proshipper? That's why I stopped calling myself that -- these people don't even know what they're accusing you of anymore.

But yes, they need to realize that sometimes it really is as simple as fandoms gravitating towards whichever ship they believe has the most chemistry. Getting angry over it is stupid, especially if the ship is canon and they've got everything they wanted.
