doctor who coming back in the year of 2023 when terfism and biological essentialism and transphobia are on the rise and making one of THE most hyped up episodes by bringing back fan favorites david tennant and catherine tate. all about being trans

showing rose being bullied and her grandma struggling to get it right but still being supportive. and shaun and donna being the greatest parents by being ready to burn the world down to protect their daughter. the doctor asking for the meep's pronouns AND IT'S NORMAL???

and all of that is brilliant to see rose as a trans character and it is important to the narrative. BUT THEN. ROSE BEING TRANS SAVES DONNA'S LIFE BY TAKING HALF OF THE METACRISIS. BECAUSE THE DOCTOR IS MALE AND FEMALE AND NEITHER AND MORE. AND THAT IS INTEGRAL TO DOCTOR WHO AS A WHOLE. and it saved donna's life

to see doctor who be so BLATANTLY trans and nonbinary at the core of the series. the multiple references to the fact that before fourteen, thirteen was a woman. so to see this? trans people stay winning. thank you doctor who for doubling down on the importance of the doctor being trans because oh my god I am so emotional about this

Okay I've calmed down enough to maybe put this into words.

Fourteen's ending was so validating to me as an aroace person, specifically because they chose platonic love. Often, QPRs are treated as a last resort, a poor consolation prize for people who can't have romantic partnerships. But Donna has a husband, and while I firmly believe the Doctor is on the ace spectrum, the Newton conversation implies that Fourteen isn't aroace. Despite the fact that he could be in a romantic relationship, the Doctor chooses a platonic partnership. And Donna gets to have both! What's more, her husband and her best friend get along, they aren't jealous or competing for her attention. It's so rare for media to treat platonic relationships as equally valuable and desirable as romantic/sexual ones, and it gave me so much hope for my future.

People that are like "oh i didn't like Donna Noble in runaway bride but once her season started i changed my mind" are bastards fools and COWARDS. she's SO fucking iconic in runaway bride. Yelling at the doctor so hard he imprints on her. being too hungover to notice cybermen. Yelling at the doctor so hard SHE imprints on HIM. Being bombarded by questions she can't answer by breaking down into sobs and then giving the Doctor a little wink bc they are IN CAHOOTS!! Jumping in front of the doctor saying "don't you hurt him" after only knowing him for a few hours. Also being like "something is deeply wrong with you" and knowing EXACTLY what his fucking problem is after knowing him for less than a day. Seeing the creation of Earth and cracking a little joke. She is Queen she is Mother she is Every Moment!!!

rewatching dw right now and thinking that the last time rose tyler saw 10 he was leaving with his best friend who was not only the most important human in the whole creation but now a timelady and his equal which means he would never be alone anymore and would travel forever with someone he loved deeply. in rose's last memory of 10th he also got his happy ending. she really has no idea. oh god.

*gently takes your hand* listen LISTEN. I know they're mostly goofs but genuinely no version of The Doctor and Donna hate each other. They're SOULmates not personalitymates. Their dynamic will play out differently with each face but there is never once a lack of mutual love and adoration. As long as The Doctor is The Doctor and Donna Noble is Donna Noble, they are sharing a soul in different bodies, no matter what bodies those might be.
