hades 2 spoilers

my biggest hope out of 1.0 is that tangible sense of a complete story that the early access seems to utterly sidestep and/or lack. I loved the elegance of the first game's story/gameplay loop synergy in how it put zagreus through so much character growth and examination by recontextualizing his efforts over and over again, from childish antics to yearning for his mother's love to a dutiful son running to tend to a garden. all the while elegantly fitting it into the roguelite framework. I can't see that type of dynamic character growth anywhere in melinoe so far, or a cohesive context holding it all together. instead the loop seems to be a purely mechanical device by which we "harvest" bits of data from chronos that will eventually lead to his demise. coupled with the olympus void, it all seems a bit shallow, which I hope is perhaps a side effect of early access and my own ignorance of supergiant's incredibly deft hand.

And I'm not really whining at all, it's a fantastic game with so much stuff in it already that is fun to play around with! But it has that tinge of sequelitis where they introduce a new protagonist who is perfectly rounded from the get-go with little else to learn. I hope her rediscovering a family she never knew becomes some sort of dramatic focal point in the post-game of 1.0, and unfurl the real core of the story they're telling. There's a foundation of saying something interesting about family patriarchs and generational trauma here, but if there are meaningful setups for it, I seem to have missed or not found them yet!

i've got teen wolf on the brain rn, so here's every member of the hale/mccall pack listed by what their favourite video game is

scott: he has been playing world of warcraft since he was 11, and he has done basically everything it's possible to do in game, unlocked every trophy and epic mount, reached the level cap with multiple characters, and still he logs in almost every day, even after stiles got bored and moved onto other games

stiles: he gets bored of games fast, but he developed a brief but intense crush on the masterchief when he was a kid, so if asked he'll say halo

alison: she's not great at suspension of disbelief, and mostly can't be bothered with games, but she has a sims 2 build that takes nearly 30 minutes just to load because of all the mods

derek: hates playing any kind of video game, which is probably good because he would get so addicted to rts games if he ever tried one. does know a weird amount of game trivia and lore though, because he goes away and researches every one of stiles's new hyperfixations but then actually sticks with them, unlike stiles. do you want halo lore? because derek has it, and he is desperate for someone to share it with

erica: she tells people it's metro 2033. it's actually barbie horse adventures. it's her comfort game, okay?

boyd: he played the arkham games for erica, and he loved him, but he imprinted on kirby at a young age and nothing else will ever touch it in his heart

isaac: such a sucker for roguelikes. if he knew what kinning was, he'd probably kin zagreus from hades. the fact that failing over and over is built into the game and there's no punishment is reinforcement his brain desperately needs. erica has written at least one zag/meg fic specifically for him.

lydia: she went 18 years without ever touching a video game, and then stiles persuaded her to try the witcher 3, and she was instantly addicted. if she finds out someone romanced triss over yenefer, she will take this as a personal insult

malia: it took stiles years of trying to find a game that didn't make malia immediately want to put her fist through the tv screen, but then DMC 5 came out.

kira: she likes her games fast, plotless, and button-mashy, so she likes most fighting games, but she's an absolute demon at smash

peter: you might think i'm going to say peter doesn't play games, and it's true that he doesn't admit to playing games, but it's also true that he knows nearly as much about street fighter lore as derek knows about halo, and has a frankly insane number of combos memorised. he would literally rather die than tell any of the pack this.

liam: he plays COD, you know it, I know it

cora: jeff forgot to give cora a personality beyond 'plucky' so i have no fucking idea. lets say it's horror games, because i feel like one of these weirdos ought to have strong opinions about bloodbourne and no one else is picking up the slack

3: Dusa! shes my best friend for all eternity for real. she’s perfect. her voice and her design and her summon are all amazing, and her dynamic with Zagreus and Megaera makes me wanna sob i love them. she’s also transgender so she gets extra points.

5: Hermes! once again, his voice is wonderful. his design is baller and his dialogue is all gold. and thank you supergiant for the data transfer art. he’s lovely and i wish he wasn’t in stealth mode so that we would get duo dialogue with the other olympians. also in terms of just gameplay his boons are KING SHIT. also he had a pet turtle named Shelly does it get better than this.

They are also to work on creating new and more powerful weapons to one day destroy SCP-ANO as containment has been deemed impossible... your efforts are in vain.

Meanwhile, Joint Task Force Zagreus-B "The Falcon's Egg" is to start project "Sedum" right away... I'll always find you.

Description: SCP-ANO is an anomalous celestial body that is made entirely of anomalous biological flesh. SCP-ANO is completely alive and sentient able to manipulate its own mass as well as the mass of organic and even non-organic material around it. The biological mass seems to be able to survive and even thrive in space without any form of atmosphere. Dr. Davis took the liberty of naming this anomalous biomass "Star Flesh", to make it easier to categorize. Essentially "Star Flesh" is a type of biomass that is somehow able to survive in the vacuum of space and can generate its own gravity. Furthermore, it's "Star Flesh" seems to be made of cells that can be categorized as Deus Cellulis. Deus Cellulis are biological cells that carry the consciousness of their host even when cut off allowing them to act as an independent and lesser version of the host. Furthmore, Deus Cellulis cells are able to shift their biology with extreme ease and understanding, allowing them to mimic or even assimilate other organisms whenever they desire to increase their own biomass. Unfortunately, after this discovery, Dr. Davis died via suicide due to intense paranoia... He is with us now.

SCP-ANO is able to spread its biomass onto other celestial bodies to create parasitic like organisms on them. These organisms allow SCP-ANO to control these planets as if it was a secondary body. One of the most notable instances of this is SCP-ANJ, thought its currently believed to be the only instance of this anomaly created, it's been theorized that SCP-ANO created one within earth... The garden grows as the crops mature.

SCP-ANO like SCP-ANJ is able to freely move throughout our solar system and can sometimes be seen over the skies of earth. Somehow it is able to get extremely close to the planet and not interfere with the atmosphere, ocean levels, or gravity of the planet; how this is possible is unknown. Seemingly SCP-ANO can manifest on the skies of earth instantaneously, only to disappear in the next, again how this is possible is unknown. For whatever reason SCP-ANO has placed itself right in-between Neptune and Pluto... We are with you now.

SCP-ANO also has several "moons" that float around it at seemingly random intervals with no clear gravitational pull or even coordination at all. Furthermore these "moons" are all organic in nature but somehow each one has a different biological signature. The number of these “moons” are quite large but impossible to count accurately, there have even been sightings of “moons” orbiting other “moons”. Dr. Peach has concluded that this is the result of SCP-ANO having consumed other worlds. He believes that SCP-ANO collects what's left of a world it has consumed and transforms it into a "moon" to act as a trophy as well as its "children". Though how SCP-ANO does this is unknown, what is known is that if Dr. Peach's theory is true, then earth is most certainly next... The countdown begins.

SCP-ANO is not only fully sentient but is able to have a psychic connection with every single anomalous entity it has created. As such it has been using its anomalous entities such as SCP-AMZ, SCP-ANE, and SCP-ANJ to further its anomalous goals. Each one not only carries SCP-ANO's consciousness but can also act as living satellites to carry SCP-ANO's messages to technology and organic minds of earth. SCP-ANO is able to control the mind of very few people on earth by making them have dreams of the future and convincing them that SCP-ANO is a god that needs their help to ascend. This range of influence SCP-ANO has unfortunately spread to more advanced technology and more humans as time goes on. If this continues, SCP-ANO will one day have enough power to control all life, whether it be organic, inorganic, synthetic, mechanical, or even digital; nothing would be able to resist SCP-ANO's control... Look at the stars moving, can't you hear me?

SCP-ANO was discovered in 1798 only 10 years after the Foundation was created. Making it one of the earliest Anomalies found by the Foundation. Originally SCP-ANO was seen as just a harmless celestial anomaly and it was agreed by the O5 Council and eventually the, at the time, Global Paranormal Control Alliance should only be delt with by hiding its existence from space observations organizations when they formed, like Nasa when it formed in 1958. However, it was quickly seen as a threat about a century later when SCP-ANJ was discovered in 1935. Followed by this was a massive surge of SCP-ANE and SCP-AMZ instances which were originally believed to be completely unrelated anomalies... such young minds, look how wrong you were.

Once The Global Occult Coalition and the Church of Maxwellism joined the Global Paranormal Control Alliance in 1950, it was renamed into the Anomalous Correction and Protection Alliance. Furthermore, it was agreed that all organizations needed to pool in their resources, technologies, and anomalous items to create 30 space stations that circle our entire solar system. This would eventually become known to the Foundation as Joint Task Force Cronus-Ω "God Eaters" thought it goes by other names within other organizations of the ACPA. Each Foundation personal as well as allies of the ACPA live, work, get married, have kids, and die on these ships never having seen earth. Furthermore no one on any ACPA owned planet such as Venus, Earth, the Moon, Mars, and Saturn's Titan, are to never know the existence of JTF Cronus-Ω, the only exception is the united councils of the ACPA. The purpose of JTF Cronus-Ω's space stations is to ensure that the ACPA will not only be aware of SCP-ANO's location at all times as well as to create weapons to eventually destroy SCP-ANO but to also help defend the solar system should another celestial body class anomaly come into our Solar System. The people of who first boarded the stations of JTF Cronus-Ω knew that they would die on these ships and that their children would grow up on the same ships to never know what it's like to be on a planet, but they took on the task anyway to ensure that humanity had a fighting chance against SCP-ANO... Their blood is still warm.

Simultaneously 20 ships containing embryos which are cloned from various ACPA members, robots and A.I. created by the combined ACPA organizations, the most advanced terraforming equipment in existence, as well as a vast archive of all the information gathered by the ACPA were shot out into space beyond our solar system to begin project "Sedum". project "Sedum" is a joint operation between all organizations of the ACPA that was created to ensure that if our solar system was ever destroyed by an anomaly too powerful for the ACPA to combat against, at least humanity and its knowledge would survive on another planet. These ships, the robots guarding them, and the A.I. guiding them are known as Joint Task Force Zagreus-B "The Falcon's Egg" by the Foundation and by other names within the ACPA. Like JTF Cronus-Ω the existence of this force is to never be known by anyone other than the united councils of the ACPA. Furthermore, it was agreed that another 10 ships carrying updated archives, terraforming tools, embryos, robots, and A.I. was to be deployed beyond our Solar System every three decades until SCP-ANO is destroyed, or it destroys us... willing food falls into the maw.

Ultimately despite the Foundations, as well as the other organizations of the ACPA’s best efforts, SCP-ANO cannot be killed. None-the-less, the Foundation continues to work to neutralize the Eldridge horror of SCP-ANO as well as all the abominations it has created... Wretched Hands... Can’t you see? YOUR ALREADY TOO LATE!

hades ii is providing me a fascinating data point in that i find melinoe a lot less hot than zagreus. i find nemesis very hot though. and upon rotating the wapeach cube hypothesis i think that a melinoe-esque twink would have been hot. further developments as the story unfolds

TBC 30 Day Challenge

Day 13: Your most-followed character

I don't entirely understand why, but I had a very regimented approach to TBC. I would follow each character for a single loop before moving on, and I would diligently record my show in my beautifully colour-coded spreadsheet - a list of who played who at each performance, and my loop 1 follow would be red, and my loop 2 follow would be yellow, and my loop 3 follow would be blue. Even when I started to play with the format (hanging around after reset to get early-loop content that had been missing from loop 1 before moving on, or double-/triple-looping, or sneaking off for five minutes to see a specific thing before coming back to finish the loop), I could still use my colour-coding to represent how I spent my show. And as I got more into the show, I got more into spreadsheeting, so I have a HORRIBLY accurate record of who I followed and how many times. So because we all know the answer to this question, I'm going to jazz it up a little with my top five characters, as well as my final loop counts

Personality

Some of Devlin’s personality have qualities which defy the definition of his individual traits, in this manner it makes him unique. Despite being emotional, he can be quite analytic, especially when it comes to his battle tactics. It comes in handy when he has to make quick decisions on taking down a monster and saving as many people as he can. Though Dev is ntroverted, he developed people skills and robust social relationships; and though he can be judgmental, he can be convinced to be receptive to change and new ideas especially noawadays. He is more than the sum of all his parts.

Devlin proves time and time again to be a true altruist, meeting kindness with kindness-in-excess and engaging the work and people he believes in with enthusiasm and generosity.

He is often meticulous to the point of perfectionism, and though he procrastinates, he can always be relied on to get the job done on time. The demigod takes his responsibilities personally, consistently going above and beyond, doing everything he can to exceed expectations and delight others, whether he is in a situation where he is working, or when he is relaxing at home. Making others happy give him a joy unlike any other.

It is a challenge for Devlin to be noticed, given that he would underplay his accomplishments. When his kindness gets respected, more cynical and selfish people tends to take advantage of his dedication and humbleness, by pushing their work to him and then when the time comes, they take the credit. He needs to know when to say no and stand up for himself, in order to maintain his confidence and enthusiasm.

Again, despite being a natural introvert, Devlin can utilize excellent memory not to retain data and trivia, but to remember people and details about his life. This makes him good at giving gifts, where he uses his natural sensitivity to express his generosity in ways that touch the hearts of their recipients. That is why he would consider a coworker to be a close personal friend, and they get to receive his affection in full bloom.

His mother is Agni Devi, a British woman with Indian roots, who raised her half-god son in secrecy while teaching her skills. His mother is the daughter of a shaman who dedicated her life to learning the mystic arts, especially pyromancy. She is not a strict guardian and often allowed Devlin to roam free and understand himself, but her fear of Hades finding him always caused her stress.  

Living in a world where kids with supernatural powers are taken up by authority, Devlin has to be extra careful of his pyrokinetic powers. His mother revealed to him that he was a demigod and son of Hades. When protecting him, she was taken away and deemed missing and ever since then, Devlin made himself to be emotionally detatched. Growing up several foster homes since he was eight, they all ended up burning down mysteriously. He had his anger issues and took it out on others, and now looking back he has severe regrets and would atone for those acts.

Devlin trusts few, and when he does meet someone, he would automatically try to look to see if they are “special”, meaning if they have supernatural powers. Being the son of Hades allows him to see the dead as well. It was a trait he always had, and can implement it at all times to the point that he rarely gets shocked by it at this point. But he doesn’t let that go to waste. Given his personality, and the fact that he has the ability to go to the underworld and help cross the souls safely, it is a daily occurrence where he would do just that, as he would help the living and dead alike.

There was the Pantheonic Wars where Devlin had finally found his true calling, as one of the co-founders of Camp Half Blood. He would bring other halflings like him there and aid them in learning how to use their powers, taking the role as everyone’s big brother. Whether or not he was related, and most of them were not related because Hades was the least adulterous, he was guiding them and being a source of help, reassuring and fighting off the monsters the other gods would release.

It led to his demise. Devlin had been unable to fight off multiple monsters at once, some were dragons, another was a chimera and even some minotaurs were involved. No one to this day knows who employed those monsters, so in a way his death was a mystery. However all this time he lived in the underworld in trauma, unwilling to return and dealt with his trauma.

About a decade later, Devlin has gone through a transformation. Before he was smooth skinned, and after training in the hottest, flaming regions of Tartarus, he became more rougher and charred, some parts of his body have permanent dark markings with not even a trace of his original complexion. He grew more facial hair, built up his body to be more muscular, and looks as if he was preparing himself for battle.

The decision to come back to the human world was a decision that was not easy. He did it one day and did not tell anybody, working in shelters and volunteering to pass his time and just to give himself a lifestyle that can let him work and not work whenever he has to. His senses need to readjust but he is the same Devlin to the core. It seems as though the Pantheonic wars have ceased, and now he is left wondering what is left for the son of Hades to do.

Devlin likes being around his siblings more than his father. He finds his father cold and calculative and often busy with work, but Melinoe and Macaria, the daughters of Persephone, are often nice to him and he gets along with them really nicely. But around Persephone and Hades he pretends he’s not because he knows his stepmother doesn’t actually like him. He also shares the soul of Zagreus, after his brother died he did not want to pass on as a soul in the afterlife so instead he ‘lives’ on through Devlin and their souls have combined. Zagreus is more of a warrior and is cocky and somewhat dumb, and his personality has been imbibed in Devlin who even goes by that name now and then.

Remember that "Apple is Isu Skype" where Desmond gets called all the time? Well, imagine the entire thing being down to other Isu trying to call Dionysus... And end up getting Desmond. It all results with Isu thinking Dionysus somehow manages to survive the Cataclysm.

Half the reason Hades keeps calling Desmond, nephew? It because he completely refuses to believe Desmond is human. And if Desmond is not human, and looks like Dionysus - then Dionysus he must be. He had seen those facial features on his brother and Demeter way too many times

Things get really odd when Rebecca manages to get into some old Temple databases and finds what looks like Desmond in a toga. She then makes the poor choice of telling Shaun of what she found

Okay, but this works well with one of the ideas before where you asked what if Hades was Desmond’s father and I proposed we make him the Isu Zagreus (with Tinia as his father, making Minerva his aunt).

While we’re at it, let’s take into consideration how Orphism believed Zagreus died and was reborn as Dionysus and how Altaïr’s Codex specifically noted Dionysus as a ‘being’ that had been revived/reborn (pg11) in this scenario…

Let’s say Hades was in charge of the ‘souls’ in the Afterlife.

Now, Odyssey really laid on the mythology part thick but what if the Afterlife (the Underworld, Elysium, and everything else it encompasses) is the basis of both the Animus and the Mead?

As far as I could remember, we never see any deceased Isu in the Afterlife, only humans.

What if the Afterlife program kept on copying and storing the data of all dead humans?

The idea is the Afterlife Program that Hades was in charge of had been created to retain all possible data of dead humans.

This, of course, includes their memories which means that the memory seals could be an offshoot program. And the Animus was created using both the blueprints of the memory seals and what records they could find about the device that operates and maintains the Afterlife.

But why would they do such a thing?

What if the initial idea of the Afterlife is that humans were not meant to reproduce, that they were meant to die and then be revived in a younger body with all their memories intact, making it faster for them to return to work. Elysium houses the data of the exemplary slaves, the best of the crop. The others go to the other parts of the Afterlife (with Tartarus being the part where the data of the ‘defects’ go so they won’t be loaded again).

It was only a bit later that the Isus realized it takes too many resources to keep creating bodies based on human data (DNA) so the next batch of humans could reproduce.

By then, Hades was still kept in charge of the Afterlife Program and that’s where his annoyance (maybe it even turned to disdain and hatred) towards his brothers, one heralded as one of the greatest Isu scientists and one becoming the ruler of one of the most prominent Isu cities, starts.

And then everyone was scrabbling to find a way to save themselves from the Solar Flare and…

That’s when tragedy struck.

Perhaps it was an accident, perhaps there was foul play, no one could confirm but Zagreus, one of the Isu scientists under Hades died and his human slave goes missing.

The missing slave was ignored for now as only Zagreus even cared about her, treating her more like a companion than a slave which many Isus have scoffed at, but Zagreus’ death had brought an unintentional boon.

He’s already dead, why not use him as the test subject for the prototype of the Mead, currently hitting a dead end after the late Consus’ research had been used up completely? Aita was the one who suggested it but it was Juno who whispered to Tinia’s ear that his son could live once more if the experiment was successful. If not, what does he have to lose?

So, with Tinia’s blessing (and Minerva’s apprehension), they uploaded Zagreus’ data to the Afterlife, becoming the first Isu to be added to the Afterlife, and they recreated his body.

There were complications though…

The one who was born from Zagreus’ data looked like him, yes, but he didn’t have the telltale signs of an Isu. If anything, he looked more like a human than an Isu.

And he did not have any of Zagreus’ memories.

They named him Dionysus to separate him from Zagreus and he was given a title. Less than an Isu but more than a human…

He was a Sage.

Aita and Juno used the data they got to further the development of the mead while Dionysus was left to do whatever he wanted. He was useless to the Isu now that he lost Zagreus’ memories and the Solar Flare was far too near already that trying to teach Dionysus what Zagreus’ knew would simply be a fool’s errand at this point.

So Dionysus became a beacon of sorts. Instead of dreading death, he celebrated life. Instead of wasting his time trying to remember who he was a Zagreus, he held parties and invited everyone, humans and Isus alike.

Orgies were also a common occurrence because the end of the world was near so why not celebrate what time they have left with passion and love?

He was even the one to suggest to Tinia to host the big party that Odin would later infiltrate after Tinia had lost all hope and was spiraling into despair. Tinia knew he wasn’t Zagreus anymore but he was born of Zagreus and that is why he liked to call him ‘grandson’ instead.

And when Minerva finally looked into the calculations for one last ditch effort to save the world.

She saw it.

A series of calculations that would lead to the birth of Desmond Miles.

Less than an Isu but more than a human…

The next Sage to carry Zagreus’ data.

However…

To ensure that Desmond Miles would be born as Zagreus’ Sage…

Dionysus needed to die.

Unorganized Data:

So the idea is Desmond’s 0.9% Isu genes is because he’s Zagreus’ Sage. It’s less than the usual Sage we get but that’s because Dionysus (and Desmond) was the first Sage to be created, the proto-Sage if you will.

That 0.9% is a good thing though because it means Zagreus’ data won’t interfere with his personality, the same way Dionysus didn’t have any of Zagreus’ memories as well. Minerva needed it to be Desmond because any other Sage risks the chance that they’d let the world burn and become the new ruler of what remains.

The orgies are there to ensure Dionysus’ Isu genes get passed on to what will later be the Ibn-La'Ahad and the Auditore-Kenway bloodline.

Zagreus’ human slave is deliberately not named but she would be the ancestor of the Ibn-La'Ahad bloodline and had returned to his side when he was reborn as Dionysus. (If you want to add more drama, the slave was the reason for the accident that killed Zagreus but it was meant to kill her and Zagreus saved her at the cost of his life)

Shaun and Rebecca will start… well… not really putting the pieces back together but more like getting wild conspiracy theories if they get actual Isu memories than include Dionysus or Zagreus because they look exactly like Desmond. They believe he may be Desmond’s Isu ancestor.

The main reason why everyone is okay with Desmond asking questions that should be 'common sense' or 'common knowledge' is because they all know Dionysus doesn't know much so they're more forgiving and Desmond/Dionysus is charming enough that they don't mind explaining it anyway (since the Apple Zoom calls technically only happens a fraction of a second in real time anyway)

I appreciate that the option to give up removes all save data because it makes it noncanon, ergo Zagreus has NEVER given up on a run once started. Only we, the player, have . Something about how that changes his characterization is very <3 to me .

V: Theadeinos

Timeline: The Age of the Gods

Makaria, the daughter of Hecate, was raised in her Mother's house and academy both her daughter and student. Her childhood was dotted with occasional visits to the House of Hades and playdates with her cousins Thanatos and Zagreus. (Kar and Than are the closest in age.)

She is talented with magic, but also had a knack for experimentation and science/engineering, to which her mother invited Daedalus to tutor her inventive daughter in her youth and adolescence.

As she grew older, she would start going by "Kar" and insistent about being called so. (The younger Chthonics and Aunt Persephone oblige her, Hecate tries but often forgets.) In time, she would be requested to have an audience with the Fates. Whatever had passed in that meeting is between her and the Fates.

Returning, she would shift to her duties as a fully fledged goddess. She would serve as the Fates' envoy and share psychopomp duties with Thanatos. As the goddess of "Blessed Death" it is her duty to claim the souls of heroes and pious. And with that duty leaves her to frequent the House of Hades and Elysium.

When not on duty, she spends her time studying and still corresponding with master Daedalus, taking the data from Zagreus' escape attempts and improving the Underworld.

Kar is also known to draw, paint, tinker and invent things, making art and little automatons as gifts for her family. She loves music but tends to keep it to herself.
