I wanted to give Ziggy some love! Although can overblot angst be considered love? I took inspiration from Jareths outfit from the end of the film, whilst mixing in barn owl dipped in oil vibes. I think he looks snazzy. He would probably overblot due to stress, his families expectation of him, the fear of failure all wrapped into one.

It's not like being back in Huntsville was ever something he had planned on coming to pass- he'd profaned the ground of his old haunting grounds time and again, and it had been twisted curiosity that sent him on the detour to see what had come of the little nothing town that built him. The warden had neglected to mention, between insistences he go fuck himself or take a short walk into the woods near dusk before Duck would ever give him a job, that his brother's home hadn't died with him. So it's surprise written on tired features, when from his place on the sidewalk- he watches his brother's wife climb the front steps. "....Claire?" He questions. "Jesus. I didn't know you'd..." Managed to tolerate his brother long enough to be widowed, really. "Uh. Sorry- I didn't know you were still livin' here."

Fluffhaven (Floof~haven) is home to the Toais (toys), a species of sentient toy animals. The Toais spend most of their days cheerfully farming & fishing to prepare for the Wellspring Festival, a celebration of their thriving community. Fluffhaven is a dream come true, but where there are dreams, there are nightmares.

Zigernius "Ziggy" Meowlington, a zebra sock cat, was perched on a cardboard tree branch at the very edge of Fluffhaven's borders. Ziggy looked over his home as they prepared for the festival. The setting sun caressing the town made for a truly stunning sight. However, this was also a sign for Ziggy to go to work.

Ziggy leaped from branch to branch, racing deeper into the forest. As dusk turned to night, Ziggy dropped into a large clearing. An old vine-covered well was at the center of the clearing, radiating with a dark light. As the moon rose to its peak, a beam of light shot down into the well. Once the light faded, a clicking noise rose from the well.

"Oh boy, that sounds like a gross one," said Ziggy. On cue, two large mantis-like claws rose from the well. The creature had the head of a horsefly, a mantis's body and arms, and a centipede's several legs. "Aw! Sweet fluff! I knew it!" A glowing purple ooze dripped from the creature's mouth as it surveyed the area.

"Freeeeedom," hissed the creature.

"Yeah, not yet, miss," said Ziggy, getting the creature's attention. "Hi, name's Ziggy, local guardian. Would it be too much trouble to ask that you go back to the Terrorsphere?" The creature crawled her way toward Ziggy before standing high over him.

"Entomo smells your fear," said Entomo.

"You like it?" asked Ziggy, "I call it, "Bug Spray." Entomo roared as three sword-like claws ripped through each of Ziggy's cotton paws. Entomo slashed at Ziggy, but the zebra cat leaped over Entomo's attack and slashed at her, turning one of her eyes into ribbons and landing behind her Entomo screeches as she turns to face Ziggy. "eye am so sorry about that. Been meaning to get these trimmed."

Entomo laughs through the pain, revealing small insectoid creatures crawling out from her open wound. Ziggy shivers in disgust as the horde of small insects charge toward him. "I hate this job so much."

Welcome to Books 'n Stuff!

Welcome to my kind of reading/writing journal! Here I will be posting book recs and reviews, and maybe writing tips and other fun writing things I find!

Some important things to note

I read all genres, but my favorites are romance, fantasy, and mysteries.

I do need to mention that I prefer clean books. Now, what I mean by that is, I try to avoid smut and anything with gore. If it's violent, that's fine. If there's swearing, big whoop. If there's kissing, also fine. Like I said, I love romance, I just don't see the need to fill it with sex. I much prefer the romance part of a romance story. I am aware a lot of people love that kind of thing, and that is fine, it's just my personal preference. I may eventually add some recs and reviews for some of those, if I can find someone willing to read them and write the review for me 🤣

So, for the most part, the only romance you will see here will be clean. I will list in every post any possible triggers that readers may want to avoid, since I love it when other people do that for books I'm interested in!

Same deal with the Mysteries. I mostly prefer cozy mysteries, but will read others.

I try to keep my shelves as sweet, clean, and cozy as possible!

Another thing is, a lot of the ebooks I read I got for free. Either an ARC, or just a free book. I will specify which ones were ARCs. NONE of the reviews are anything but my personal honest opinion.

Here's a little bit about me:

My name is Eli, I have three beautiful children, Dusk, a black lionhead mix rabbit, Hoggle, a leopard gecko, and Ziggy, a curly haired tarantula.

I used to hate reading because I was so slow at it. Then my mom and I went and stayed in a camper for a week with nothing to do but read. Apparently all I needed was to be forced into reading, because now I LOVE it! Still takes me longer than I feel like it should to get through a book, but it's more enjoyable now and it doesn't feel like such a chore!

Other things I enjoy doing are, spending time with friends, family, and pets, listening to music, watching tv and movies, and playing The Sims 4. And speaking of playing The Sims 4, if that's something you are also interested in, you can check out my other page Here.

     “  —  yo,  zig  !  ”  even through rose-tinted beer-goggles it was stark  :  the other male had disappeared into the looming night as he often had a way of doing in upton’s company. frankly, the older of the two was surprised his so-called friend hadn’t already wandered off ages ago. mid-week bar crawls weren’t exactly packed with action, and there were bigger fish to fry, presumably.  (  upton didn’t entirely understand the kind of shit that ziggy got up to, to be honest, but it was probably for the better.  )  if he wanted consistent company for the night, there’d been better options, and it was ultimately his own fault for being, like,  boring  or something. 

dusk threatened to swallow him up as upton shuffled down the sidewalk, passing local shops as disgruntled employees turned their open signs to closed.  fuck.  nobody shut their doors this early in portland, upton whined to himself. it was what, like 9pm  ?  that was still in the  single digits,  man. reluctance has him jaywalking across the street to the only neon letters left reading  O P E N,  shining through the dark like a diluted, back alley north star. a beacon leading him to his own drunken demise. and though he’d been to fannie’s more than a few times, a lesbian bar wasn’t exactly the greatest place for picking up women.

at the very least, here he could bask in the beauty that was the female form  —  cautiously of course. ogling woman had stopped being cute many years ago, and upton knew how to compose himself at least to some degree.  “  —  hey,  ”  a familiar face brought warmth to his cheeks and relief to his stomach.  “  fancy seeing your ass out on a fucking tuesday, huh  ?  ”  @ncbodyshome​

Moffle Phillips is a Normal Human: Part II

This semester I took a creative writing class, and began writing a story about one of my characters, Moffle the Alien, for the final assignment. I wanted to share it, so I decided to drop it on here! Hope you enjoy, and feedback is highly appreciated!!

“It was a sunny morning in early June. I awoke to my alarm clock ringing, and quickly reached out to stop it as I opened my eyes. While coming out of my groggy state, a sense of excitement washed over me as I realized that it was my first day of space camp! My entire life I’d wanted to be an astronaut and explore the universe, and I had been begging my parents to let me go to space camp. It was my dream.

Another thing I was extremely excited for was getting the chance to meet other kids my age for the first time! My life was a pretty lonely life to live, but I managed. Being by myself all the time gave me lots of free time to find myself. And in that time I discovered two things: that I love outer space and that I really want to get some friends. And now I was going to be attending space camp! Where I would meet a whole bunch of other kids who liked space, just like me! It was going to be perfect!

I turned over in my bed to stare at my wall. It was plastered with posters I’ve collected over the years. There were posters of the moon, of the solar system, and of stars and galaxies. Among my favorites were the music and film posters. My gaze landed on a poster featuring cover art from my favorite album, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars. I felt a smile spread across my face as I jumped out of bed to turn on my stereo, popping my CD of the album out of its case and into the device. From there I skipped ahead until I landed on my favorite song, “Starman”. I let the song play as I strutted over to my closet.

Something about Ziggy Stardust had always resonated with me. But I guess it would make complete sense for me to resonate with someone who took on the form of an androgynous alien from outer space. For you see, I myself was also an androgynous alien and my ancestors were definitely not from planet earth. There was nothing human about me, and I was okay with that. Compared to others I was strange, but I didn’t care. Sure I was different, but it was an easy enough thing to hide. As soon as I learned to control my form, my mother made sure I knew to hide my true form and present as a human whenever I was around other people. In her words, it would be “very dangerous--or at the very least, extremely awkward” if anyone saw me in my alien form, so I knew to hide. Presenting myself as a human was second-nature to me by that point in my life. But as I said before, none of this ever bothered me because it was just a normal aspect of my life. Sure, I was essentially hiding a huge secret from the world as well as rejecting a huge part of myself, but really it was better off that way.

I made my way to my floor mirror, with a shirt in each of my olive-green toned, three-fingered hands. I looked at my reflection for a moment. My skin clashed with the bright orange t-shirt I was wearing, and my honey-yellow eyes glowed in the mirror as they scanned my appearance. My long (some might say cat-like) tail swayed back and forth in my excitement, and the deep green hair on the top of my head was matted together in a very apparent bedhead. Woven into the strands of hair were my ears, both of which were half a foot long and typically drooped down to my shoulders. I chuckled a bit as I gazed up at the beautiful mess of hair atop my skull, then closed my eyes as I changed into my human form.

My tail shrank away, as did my long ears as they became human-like in shape. My skin went from green to a more human-appropriate warm tone. My fingers split from three to five. My hair fell over my eyes as it straightened itself out and turned a dark, muted brown. When I opened my eyes back up, they were a very normal white color with dark green irises around the pupils. Looking back at myself, I looked like just a normal human kid stood in their heavily space-themed bedroom. With a huge smile across my face, I lifted up one of the two shirts in my hand. It was a navy blue tank shirt with stars plastered on every inch of it. Deeming it the perfect thing to wear, I paired it with a pair of black knee-length shorts, white socks, and dark blue high-top shoes. Soon after putting my outfit on, I checked my appearance before turning off my stereo and making my way out of the room.

Similar to my first day of high school, everything about space camp felt like a dream. The space camp building was on the same site as a space base. Everything I walked by filled me with amazement, and I smiled to myself as I realized that I was walking in the footsteps of some of the greatest space explorers of humankind. I was touring the main space camp building with all of the new campers, and we were being led around by two camp counselors. First we were brought to the dining hall and the residence hall, two areas that weren’t very exciting but were definitely important. Then we were brought to the fun places, starting with the simulation room. This space was enormous and was filled with endless interesting contraptions, from rooms for practice missions to antigravity emulators, among other things. Then we were led to the theater, and later to the research room.

It had hit dusk by the time we had made it to our last stop on the tour, which was the observatory. Upon walking in, I had never been more awestruck by anything else in my life. The cylindrical room was topped off with a dome-shaped ceiling, and there was an opening in it that provided a clear view of the dimming sky. The walls of the room were lined with desks and bookshelves loaded with computers, scale models, knick-knacks, tools, and a massive collection of space-related books. The room’s main feature, stood on a tall platform base, was the huge astronomical telescope placed directly in the center of the space. After scanning the room in utter disbelief and amazement, I had concluded that this very room would be my favorite part of space camp.

From that day on, I would hang out in the observatory whenever I got the chance, looking at the cosmos and everything found within them through the telescope. I felt like the secrets of the universe were at my fingertips whenever I looked through its lens. I could see stars and galaxies I had never seen before. I could see planets I could only dream of seeing with my naked eye. Looking through the telescope, I sometimes found myself wondering if my home planet was one of them.

One night, I had decided to hang around in the observatory before bed instead of going to my dorm room. After eating my dinner, I had gotten my belongings together and prepared to fly over. I swung my bag over my shoulders and cradled a pillow in my arms, prepared to spend the night if I so desired. I then went invisible and snuck my way into the observatory without a hitch. From there, I placed all of my things in a hidden area of the room and got comfy. I pulled out one of my favorite astrology books and rushed over to the telescope. I had planned on studying different types of stars on this night, and went about comparing every star I looked at to every other star. This went on for hours, and when I began to feel an overwhelming sense of exhaustion I decided it was time to hit the hay. Sleepily, I trudged over to my hidden spot and immediately drifted off, with my astrology book still in my arms.

Suddenly, I was awoken by a loud exclamation. The shock that rushed through my body caused me to instantly vanish from sight, and I darted up in the air to see what was going on. A brief glance toward the opening in the ceiling told me that it was early morning. To my horror, I had discovered that I left the telescope in a state of mild disarray, and an astronomer who had just walked in was running up to it. I panicked, realizing that if I was found out, there was a fair chance I could get in a whole heap of trouble. I knew I had to stay out of sight. Fortunately, my invisibility powers made that easy for me. Rather unfortunate, however, was the fact that all of my things were still sprawled out around me, and I wouldn’t be able to pick them up without making noise. Looking down at everything, I knew I had to find some way to get it all out of the room without getting caught. I looked back up towards the rest of the room, and nearly screamed in fear when my eyes immediately met those of the astronomer. His face was mere inches away from mine.

He couldn’t see me, right? I hovered backwards, slowly, looking down at myself as I did so. I was completely invisible. Obviously, there was no way he saw me. He had clearly been looking at my things and not at me. Instant relief fell over me. But now that my spot had been exposed, I knew that leaving with my stuff would be near impossible unless I caused some sort of distraction first. So, fighting against the urge to have a complete panic attack and shut down, I flew over to the other side of the room and pushed a few heavy books off of a desk. This seemed to do the trick, and the astronomer quickly turned his head and approached the source of the sound. Straight away, I made my way back over to my possessions and gathered them up. Every item I picked up turned invisible with me. Once I was fairly certain I had collected everything, I rose back up in the air and stole a swift glance at the astronomer, who was puzzlingly making his way back over. Struck by fear and wondering whether he saw my things vanishing as I picked them up, I rushed out the door and didn’t look back until I was safely back in my dorm room. To my relief, no one had ever come to me asking about what happened that day. I had luckily made it out, completely in the clear.

From that day on, I never stayed overnight in that observatory ever again. I had also learned that I needed to be extra careful to stay far away from humans whenever I was using my invisibility powers. That accident had shown me that one mistake on my end could lead to my alien form being exposed. And once my alien form was exposed, I would never, ever be able to blend in with other humans.”

▸     IS    YOUR    MUSE    TALL    /    SHORT    /    AVERAGE ? pretty tall ! 5′10″ -- not super tall, but when you add an extra 3+ inches due to high heels or platforms, he is Monstrously tall.  how thin he is also gives the illusion of extra height.  

▸      ARE    THEY    OKAY    WITH    THEIR    HEIGHT ? he’s fine with it -- he likes the respect that comes with the height.  

▸      WHAT’S    THEIR    HAIR    LIKE ?

bright, deep orangeish red -- looks like it’s dyed, but its au naturale, babey.  his hair is about shoulder length and curls at the end -- it’s swept back, out of his face, and usually held there with hairspray.  no mullet. citialiin is an anti-mullet zone, and for that i sincerely apologize.  

▸     DO    THEY    SPEND    A    LOT    OF    TIME    ON    THEIR    HAIR     /    GROOMING ? o absolutely.  he has elevated vanity into high art.  he has meticulous routines for hair, skincare, etc. and spares no expense in buying the best for his physical appearance.  it eats up a lot of time to look this good, but he would rather be late and hot than on time and unkempt.  he almost refuses to be seen without at least some amount of time to get ready -- this is also because he has to cover his weird alien forehead mark, lest his strange secret be revealed to the world.  

▸      DOES   YOUR   MUSE   CARE   ABOUT   THEIR   APPEARANCE   /   WHAT    OTHERS    THINK ? enormously.  in a sense, he doesn’t care what others think in that he obeys only his own fashion tastes only, as eccentric or weird as they may be. if people tell him some shoes are ugly but he steadfast believes that they’re great, he’s still going to wear those shoes anyways and mock you for having bad taste.  his appearance is a deeply important thing to him and a form of self-expression and individuality, which he considers tenants of his personality.  how he looks is a reflection of who he is, and he is cool and better than you. he is more apt to wear something hideous that he likes than something considered fashionable but he considers boring: luckily, he has pretty good (if not very bizarre) taste in clothes, and looks somewhat avant-garde, but also somewhat like a closet threw up on him.  

—    PREFERENCES.

▸      WHAT    ARE    SOME    OF    YOUR    MUSE’S    BAD    HABITS ? the list is eternal!! there are things that hurt only himself: excessive drinking, staying up until four and sleeping until two, cigarettes, drugs, sex, the perils of Dat Rockstar Lyfe, but there are a lot of things he does that also affect others: he tends to be careless with people’s feelings and can sometimes be callously rude or mean.  it’s difficult for him to look past himself and be selfless, because he’s so stuck up and so lost in his own world that he never really manages to consider that other people feel just as deeply as he does until it’s too late.  he’s also gullible and naive, but hardly realizes this, making it pretty easy to manipulate him, not that he isn’t often also (unintentionally) manipulating others for his own selfish benefit.  most of these bad habits, however, are learned, and not necessarily innate to his personality; he was a much Nicer alien before he got lost in his lifestyle.

▸      HAS    YOUR    MUSE    LOST    ANYONE    CLOSE    TO    THEM ?      HOW    HAS    IT    AFFECTED    THEM ? not yet.  he’s only twenty six and has only been on earth for four years.  he has a very long lifespan, over twice what a normal human would live, so this is going to be an inevitability that he hasn’t considered either due to his short-sighted nature or because he intentionally isn’t willing to think about it.  

▸      WHAT    ARE    SOME    FOND    MEMORIES    YOUR    MUSE    HAS ? mostly memories of his various successes -- selfish things, like sell out concerts, iconic interview moments, climbing his shiny ladder of stardom.  but there are personal things that may not be quite as exciting to relive but that he considers important: meeting his bandmates for the first time, meeting anyone who he considers himself close to for the first time, hearing music for the first time, etc. he has so many firsts and they’re all in his very recent memory.

▸     IS    IT    EASY    FOR    YOUR    MUSE    TO    KILL ? o fuck no. he’s just some dude.  he would never hurt another person beyond maybe a punch or a slap if they made him really angry.  i think the planet he came from before he came to earth was so far advanced that any semblance of violence was just some primitive memory of lesser-evolved society; upon coming to earth, knowing that there’s still stuff like murder and whatever is horrifying and freaky to him.  it’s like if you went to go live with a tribe of chimps and you just  have to accept that your brethren regularly kill smaller monkeys and tear them apart as a means of bonding (i hate chimps. fyi)

▸      WHAT’S    IT    LIKE    WHEN    YOUR    MUSE    BREAKS    DOWN ? equally heartbreaking and laughably pathetic.  he’s a very dramatic, over the top person, but he’s also very genuine in some ways, so it depends: if he had a freak out over something insignificant, you’d probably think it was funny that he let himself get so worked up over some dumb thing and now he has like mascara tears and he’s sobbing that life is unfair and he never gets his way wah everything is awful he hates everything !!!!  but in the same vein, he has a lot of things to rightfully panic over: he’s far from home and utterly alone. so if he had a freak out over that, it would be a little more sympathetic, because he is under a lot of strange pressure, and even if he is a whiny dipshit, he deserves to feel sad for things that are genuinely upsetting. when he’s upset, however, spotlight’s on him, so you wait your turn to be upset when he’s done. 

▸      IS    YOUR    MUSE    CAPABLE    OF    TRUSTING    SOMEONE    WITH    THEIR    LIFE ? sort of -- maybe.  i think he trusts himself, most of all, but his more whimsical or romantic side likes to think that he could utterly give himself to another person.  but he’ll always be withholding some sliver, just because he’s Weird and Not Human and ideas of things like romance are very human-centric.  

▸      WHAT’S    YOUR    MUSE    LIKE    WHEN    THEY’RE    IN    LOVE ? strangely enough, equal parts terrible and equal parts very sweet.  being comfortable with another person clearly means that he has some level of trust in them and that he will likely allow himself to be rude, callous, talk too much, whine a lot, etc.  you’re supposed to take care of him !!! how can you not want to cater to his every weird ass whim and fancy !!! but in the same vein, i think he understands he has capital i Issues and if anyone could force him to change for the better, it would be because he loved them (whether romantically or platonically) and sought to make them happy.  i think the thing is that while he’s a very flirty or coquettish person, he isnt very keen on romance and tends to be weary of devoting himself in any sense to other people.  so it’s difficult for him to get to this point at all, unless you’re Real Special.

What would trigger someone to evolve into a dusk lycanroc?

I like to think dusk is the middle ground between day and night (for obvious reasons lol). So far day ‘rocs have evolved with little to no real “trigger.” Nothing happened to Gale or Billy to force em but Bruce and Ziggy were. 

A dusk ‘roc might have something mixed that makes them evolve like a really happy event or a really upsetting one. Or even something that’s just very passionate, being good, bad or both.

Are you ready to chilly down in the most eccentric dorm Night Raven has to offer?

Ubrythos takes inspiration from the mischievous Goblin King. Students from this dorm usually have a flair for the dramatics, knowing how to put on a good show, while also harnessing uncouth magical powers. So be ready to dance magic dance as the world falls down when you traverse the underground labyrinth this dorm is carved from.

Time seems to work differently here, some students believe there are 26 hours in a day. Speaking of the students, they are an eccentric bunch. All of them are unique in their own way.

And who could forget the masquerade the students put on every year? The annual Crystal Ball is a sight to behold with outlandish costumes, banished foods, and the most exquisite music one could ever have the pleasantry to hear.

Best not to indulge the atmosphere for too long. When you start to feel lighter than air, or when the room begins to spin a bit too much, that is the time to leave. One could get trapped on the dancefloor for a lifetime.
