Random Thoughts: I'm...so...DUMB!

So, in case this is the first post you've seen from me...

Hi, name's ToonMan, and I have a writing blog (@talltoontales) where I try to write at least one short story per week. I have a massive Word document where I write the stories and then copy and paste them into blog posts. I also keep track of how long I've worked on a story per day, the prompt I used, the user who created the prompt, etc.

So today...

I was planning on writing my story for this week. I had a prompt all setup, my pre-writing meal, and a several-hour-long YouTube video all ready to go. I went to open up Word, and it came up in "View Only" mode. Like an idiot, I didn't think too much of it and exited out without saving.

I then loaded up the document properly and started getting set up when I noticed that half of my last story was GONE(along with the time spent on it and the total word count)!

Thankfully, I copy that information into my blog posts, thank God, but I'm still so friggin pissed. So much so that I'm procrastinating by ranting online, like I didn't make my blog just in case this exact thing happened.

If you take anything away from this, if you're writing on Word make sure AutoSave is ON. Now, if you'll excuse me, I gotta go fix my mistake. Have a good day.

BIRD PPL // S.O.S.

I was house sitting for my parents when my younger brother pointed out that one of their cars had a birds nest on it.

So, for like the next three days, we're just bird watching, and she never left the nest, at least while we were watching. She even sat through a slightly heavy thunderstorm.

Fast forward to about an hour ago, I have to move the car to get to their SUV. I do, and the bird flies off. I made sure to be extra careful so as not to disturb the nest. I go to check on the nest, and I find these...

I felt bad, but I figured once I left, she'd just take her seat back.

It's been an hour and she hasn't come back as far as I know.

Maybe I'm overreacting or just made two orphans, I don't know. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi, I'm ToonMan, and I had a REALLY dumb idea that I love.

It's this new game I came up with about *looks at empty wrist* twelve minutes ago.

The game's simple:

Right, considering the current state of corporate politics on this site, and that it seems that only those affected seem to be actively speaking on the matter, this needs to be dragged out to a wider audience.

Basic Tips to Improve Your Writing

I used to read a lot of unprofessional writing online, and through that endeavor, I started mentally compiling different qualities that turned me off to people's work right away. I'm sharing some of my thoughts about ways to improve your writing so others don't click off your work right away!

-Change paragraphs when different characters are speaking.

-In that same thread, remember to make new paragraphs and not have one giant block of text. This isn't only discouraging for some readers, but actually physically impossible to read for those who are visually impaired.

-Learn grammar. Sorry, but there is no way around this one. For example, commas aren't just for aesthetic appeal or your personal choice, and it will turn some readers away if your writing is littered with grammatical errors. You can't break the rules for creative purposes if you don't even know them, and the difference is generally apparent.

-Remember the narration style you've chosen. For example, if you're writing in third person limited, you can't think outside the mind of your main character. Don't jump suddenly to the thoughts of other characters or an all-knowing, omniscient voice.

-Slow down. Each word matters, so try not to think of writing as "I must get from Point A to Point B," but "I must get from Point A to Point B beautifully."

-Avoid repeating the same word or phrase too much, especially within the same paragraph. There are exceptions in dialogue, of course. (It's sweet when writers acquire their own personalized phrasings that mark their voice, but I have turned away from works where the exact same line just kept coming up again and again).

-Don't forget about setting. You might be able to imagine where your characters are, but no one else can if you don't let them know.

-Use a consistent verb tense.

-Your characters are not you and generally shouldn't always be mouthpieces for you to share your own values and thoughts.

-Your characters should sound distinctly different from each other, including their talking styles.

-Don't bog the reader down with too much description, and make sure the description you do have is realistic. Think about it. In the morning, do you wake up, go to the mirror, and think to yourself, "I looked at my shaggy dark hair and emerald green eyes"? Nobody thinks that way about their own appearance, and it feels like a forced way to let the reader know what the main character looks like.

-There's no need to start tossing out every character trait if it's not relevant to the story.

-Last, show some passion and excitement for your own work. Make sure the language embodies that passion because if you don't even care about your writing, who will?

Long ago, Belphegor, sin of the sloth, had a job sorting human souls to choose which sin they should be punished but as sin of sloth of course she will be too lazy to do the work all by herself. It’s giving her an idea to choose someone to do this work for her. If she wants someone to sort human souls on earth she needs a human after Belphegor design to go on earth and choose a human who’ll do anything for her. It's not easy but at least she finally found it

In the 18th century, it had a poor family that was about to die of hunger and they have nothing left now.. But before their death has come Belphegor shows herself up first to make a deal with them. She’ll give them one thing that will change their life forever but one of them needs to be her servant. Of course they don't want to but because of hunger make them doesn't have a choice

After that this family has a curse. One of them in every generation has a destiny to turn into the soul punisher called Ghost rider. But here comes the current generation, Acedia. She doesn't know anything about her family curse and moving to NYC after graduation and living a normal life for a while, one day in the middle of the night after work.. The time has come when Belphegor showing herself in front of her and tell everything about family curse even Acedia doesn't want or prepare for all of this but just like other family members, she doesn't have a choice

Belphegor tells her everything about what Ghost rider us and how they work. Event week Acedia needs to turn into Ghost rider at least one time for hunting down human souls like crime for review they sin after that the souls will get mark by itself which sin they should get punished after they're dead. Will, at least Acadia don't need to kill people by herself
