Okay, a bunch of misconceptions I keep seeing about Pacific Rim would be cleared up with the understanding that:

Pacific Rim and Pacific Rim: Uprising had two completely different directors, with two very different creative visions. Pacific Rim was directed by Guillermo del Toro, famous for busting into the public consciousness with the extremely anti-fascist film Pan's Labyrinth. Pacific Rim: Uprising was directed by Steven S. DeKnight, who previously worked on... Bayformers. Yeah.

The people behind Pacific Rim: Uprising did not look into Pacific Rim's extended lore. In fact, they barely even paid attention to what happened in the first movie. (There are multiple inconsistencies between these films.)

Pacific Rim: Uprising did not begin as a cash grab from executives. Guillermo del Toro and Travis Beacham (the guy who came up with Pacific Rim in the first place) had always planned for a sequel. The pair of them were involved in developing that sequel... until a scheduling conflict forced del Toro to leave. He was then replaced by DeKnight, because executives always saw Pacific Rim as being the same kind of thing as Bayformers, and you know the rest of the story.

I love this because it has the same feel as when people are pitting superheroes against each other and all the sudden batman and superman are Mortal Enemies and you’re just like LET THEM BE FRIENDS PLEASE

What if Mako and Raleigh realized that Godzilla was sad and hungry? What if Mako and Raleigh pulled Lady Danger's nuclear core right out of its chest, holding it out to him as the Jaeger slowly powered down and dropped to its knees without its heart? What if Godzilla ate it and returned to the sea, sated and touched by an unexpected moment of kindness?
